Election
CRITICAL FALSE-FRIEND DRIFT: in essentially all contemporary English usage outside specifically theological contexts, ‘election’ means a political vote. This is a near-total lexical takeover; readers encountering Romans 9’s election language without explicit signposting are highly likely to import a political-voting frame (majority choice, campaigning, competing candidates) that has nothing to do with God’s sovereign, prior, unilateral choice. This term requires more active reframing than almost any other in this registry.
