Nepal’s historic Hindu-kingdom identity kept the sadhu/sant wandering-ascetic ideal especially prominent and state-honored (sadhus remain a visible presence at Pashupatinath and other national shrines). पवित्र जन applies to every ordinary believer, not an ascetic elite.
