The document check

What we look at in the first pages of your document, the three possible outcomes, and what to do if we ask a question or something goes wrong.

Last updated October 1, 2026

What is this?

Right after you upload, we read the first four pages that have real content and decide whether this is the kind of material the service translates: Christian teaching and ministry material. Blank pages, copyright pages and tables of contents are skipped, so a long cover section does not count against you. Word and text files have no fixed pages, so about 3,000 characters is treated as a page.

This usually takes under a minute. You can leave the page and come back.

It is only about whether the document fits the purpose of this service. It is never a judgment about you or your faith.

The three outcomes

It fits. We say so and move straight on to the readiness report.

We need you to tell us what it is for. When the first pages are not clear enough, we ask one question. Choose the best match:

  • Bible study material
  • Teaching or preaching material
  • Devotional or discipleship material
  • Other ministry material
  • Something else, not ministry material

We then look again, with your answer as extra context. Your answer never overrides what the pages actually show: if they show something else, we still say so. We ask once. If it is still unclear after your answer, we tell you and invite you to contact us so a person can look, rather than asking again.

We also ask when the first pages contain wording about how the document should be treated or classified. We would like you to confirm the purpose yourself rather than rely on that wording.

It is outside what we translate. We say so in plain words, and you can upload a different document. If you think this is a mistake, contact us and tell us what the document is for.

If something goes wrong

  • A temporary problem. If we could not finish the check, you will see Try the check again. Nothing is wrong with your document, and a failed check is never treated as a pass. You can retry several times.
  • A problem with the file. You will be told what it is, for example that the file is password protected or has no selectable text, and asked to upload a corrected copy.
  • Your upload did not finish. Upload the document again.
