Existing Polish Bible translations

Biblia Tysiąclecia (“Millennium Bible,” first published 1965) is the standard Catholic Polish translation, used in the liturgy and in most Catholic catechetical and devotional material. The historic Protestant translation is Biblia Gdańska (17th century), still used in a modernized form (Uwspółcześniona Biblia Gdańska) by some Evangelical communities, alongside the 20th-century Biblia Warszawska. This Language Package follows Biblia Tysiąclecia convention for widely shared vocabulary (Ewangelia, zbawienie, łaska) given the curriculum’s Catholic-majority likely audience, while flagging Protestant-tradition emphases where they diverge.

Where existing translations fall short for this curriculum

• No existing translation addresses the Polak-katolik identity risk: neither Biblia Tysiąclecia nor the Protestant traditions were produced with an eye toward the specific risk that Polish national and Catholic identity are so tightly fused that “wiara” and “zbawienie” can be read as inherited cultural status. This is a catechetical gap a Bible translation, by its nature, does not address.
• Shared vocabulary, divergent doctrine (Catholic-Protestant): as with other historically Catholic Language Packages in this pipeline, “łaska,” “usprawiedliwienie,” and “zbawienie” are shared across Catholic and Protestant Polish Bibles while historically carrying different theological content (see Comparative Theology).
• No settled glossary contrasting biblical faith with cultural-Catholic identity: this Language Package’s translation_memory.json fills that specific gap, since it is not a concern either Bible-translation tradition or standard theological glossaries were built to address.

Readiness assessment

Polish is lexically well-positioned — every core term already has a settled, non-invented rendering. The translation task here is disciplined doctrinal clarification distinguishing personal faith in Christ from inherited national-religious identity and from Marian/saint-centered intercessory piety, not vocabulary invention.
