Linguistic Gap Analysis

Linguistic Gap Analysis

Polish has settled, established vocabulary for nearly every Romans concept. The gaps here are doctrinal-clarity gaps regarding national-religious identity and Marian devotion, not vocabulary gaps.

Terms requiring explicit doctrinal disambiguation rather than new vocabulary

  • Wiara (faith): must be actively distinguished from the Polak-katolik sense of inherited national-cultural Catholic identity, a distinction with no single-word solution — requires accompanying teaching notes every time the term carries doctrinal weight.
  • Powołanie (calling): as with Catholic-heritage ‘vocación’/‘vocação’ in other Language Packages, narrows in Polish culture specifically to priesthood or religious life; “powołanie” alone is insufficient for Romans’ universal calling of every believer without added context.
  • Imputed righteousness (poczytana sprawiedliwość): as in other historically Catholic Romance-adjacent contexts, must be distinguished from “sprawiedliwość wlana” (Tridentine infused righteousness).

Terms where Polish’s existing vocabulary is an asset, not a gap

  • Ewangelia, zbawienie, łaska, zmartwychwstanie: all have long-established, doctrinally serviceable Polish renderings shared across Catholic and Protestant Bibles.
  • Mesjasz, Chrystus: transliterated/established terms with no live rival rendering.

Gap-filling strategy

Where Polish vocabulary is already settled, this Language Package’s role is to attach doctrinal notes that disambiguate the national-identity fusion (faith, salvation, Christian identity) and Marian/saint devotion (sainthood, intercession) risks specific to Polish culture, rather than to propose new wording.
