Several Romans doctrines only make full sense read against specific Old Testament passages, which a Bavarian dialect-speaking Catholic audience, whose biblical familiarity is often mediated by liturgy and feast-day tradition rather than direct systematic Bible reading, may not supply on their own even where the general story is culturally familiar.

  • Romans 1:3–4 (Davidic Covenant, Messianic Promise) ↔ 2 Samuel 7:12–16. The “Nachkomme vom David” language is unintelligible without the covenant promise behind it; liturgical familiarity with the Christmas narrative’s Davidic references does not automatically supply this covenant-theology background.
  • Romans 1:17 (“da Gerechte werd aus’m Glaam lebn”) ↔ Habakkuk 2:4. The thesis-statement quotation for the whole letter; the curriculum should make the Habakkuk source explicit rather than let it pass as an unattributed phrase.
  • Romans 4 (Abraham, faith credited as righteousness) ↔ Genesis 15:6.
