HIGH RISK: Italy has the most intense saint-veneration culture of any language in this batch — patron saints for every town and profession, feast days as civic holidays, relics and processions. ‘I santi’ overwhelmingly means canonized intercessors in ordinary Italian usage. Waldensian/evangelical tradition explicitly rejects saint veneration, making this a live denominational flashpoint within Italy itself.
