Salvation word-field

English “salvation,” “saved,” and “deliverance” collapse into a single Thai term, ความรอด, which is a genuine asset: Thai has one clear, non-Buddhist rescue-word already established in THSV usage. The semantic risk is not ambiguity within Thai but interference from the adjacent, competing term การบรรลุนิพพาน (attaining nibbana), which occupies the same “ultimate deliverance” semantic slot in the reader’s existing worldview.

Incarnation/avatar word-field

การทรงบังเกิดเป็นมนุษย์ (incarnation) sits in direct semantic competition with อวตาร, a word so embedded in Thai civic and religious life (via the Ramakien and royal naming convention) that it will occur to translators and readers alike as the more “natural” choice. This is the single word-field in this Language Package requiring the most vigilant, repeated enforcement, since the risk is not obscurity but over-familiarity.

Merit/glory/grace word-field

บุญ (merit), บารมี (accumulated charisma), and พระคุณ (grace) sit close together semantically, all describing favorable standing, but only พระคุณ in this curriculum’s usage denotes something given rather than earned. พระสิริ (glory) sits adjacent to บารมี for the same reason; both distinctions must be actively taught, not assumed from word choice alone.

Spirit/soul word-field

วิญญาณ (spirit/soul/consciousness) is broad, covering ghosts, ancestral spirits, and the Buddhist consciousness-continuum. Only in its full compound form พระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ does it denote the Holy Spirit. Because Theravada doctrine does not affirm a permanent self, this word-field carries no fully safe “bare” form — the qualifiers พระ (divine honorific) and บริสุทธิ์ (holy) are doing essential theological work every time they appear.
