Election
Orthodox theology generally holds a synergistic view of salvation (cooperation between divine grace and human free will) and resists monergistic double predestination as taught in Reformed Protestantism. Romans 9-11’s election language, a classic Reformed proof-text, must be translated faithfully to Paul’s argument without either imposing strict Calvinist monergism foreign to most Romanian readers’ Orthodox formation or diluting the sovereign divine initiative the text actually asserts.
