Week ending 8/16
Executive summary
This week turned from generating and reviewing content to helping people actually use what has already shipped. A Help section launched with eight articles across Library review, Library features, Methodology, and Translation Studio, replacing an auto-opening onboarding popup and gaining its own three-column navigation to match the Library. The newsletter and on-site feedback widget both moved off Google Sheets into Postgres, so an unsubscribe can finally be honoured and both are now visible in admin. A tracking gap was fixed on /world-languages, the page the homepage's main call to action points at, which had recorded zero visits since launch. Content generation stayed paused for a second straight week: no language package logged any change this week, and every Library count is unchanged from last week.
What's new
-
Change
Shipped a Help section: eight articles across Library review, Library features, Methodology, and Translation Studio, linked from the app sidebar, the Library review screen, and the site footer.
Impact
Volunteers and partners now have a written guide instead of needing someone to explain the product live each time.
Next action
Watch which articles get used and which questions still reach a person instead.
-
Change
Retired the auto-opening 'Welcome to the Library' popup for a dedicated Help page, and gave Help its own three-column navigation matching the Library's.
Impact
First-time visitors no longer see the Library interrupted before they have looked at anything.
Next action
Confirm the popup's content reads as well in article form as it did as a dialog.
-
Change
Moved the newsletter list from a Google Sheet into Postgres and added a real unsubscribe, with a confirm step so scanners and link previews cannot trigger it by accident.
Impact
An unsubscribe can finally be honoured, closing a gap the append-only sheet could never close.
Next action
Decide whether the sheet-era addresses, which carry no unsubscribe token, are ever imported.
-
Change
Moved on-site feedback from a Google Sheet into Postgres and added a Feedback and a Newsletter tab to admin.
Impact
Feedback and subscriber status are now visible next to everything else admin already surfaces, not locked in a spreadsheet.
Next action
Check the new low-rating flag in the Feedback tab weekly.
-
Change
Added a Partners tab to admin next to Volunteers, and both partner and volunteer submissions now send an email alert.
Impact
A lead no longer sits unseen until someone remembers to open the dashboard.
Next action
Confirm the alert email is reaching the right inbox reliably.
-
Change
Fixed /world-languages, which had silently bypassed the site's tracking script since launch and recorded zero visits despite being the homepage's primary call to action.
Impact
The site's main conversion path is measurable for the first time.
Next action
Check next week's Plausible numbers to confirm traffic is now recording.
-
Change
Fixed both interest forms so submitting scrolls to and announces the confirmation message instead of leaving it off-screen.
Impact
A visitor who submits the form can now tell it worked.
Next action
None; this is a completed bug fix.
Business impact
Volunteers and partners now have a written guide to point to instead of a live explanation each time, for review, search, comparison, and how a package is built. The newsletter list can now honour an unsubscribe for the first time, closing a compliance gap the old append-only sheet could not close. Partner and volunteer leads now trigger an email alert and show up in admin next to each other, so a lead no longer waits on someone remembering to check a spreadsheet. Fixing /world-languages means the site's own primary conversion path is finally measurable.

Risks
Content generation has now been paused two consecutive weeks while engineering went to documentation, forms, and admin tooling. The 203-decision review queue flagged the last two weeks has no evidence of a named reviewer this week, and the review-capacity gap remains unstaffed. The 15 August Translation Studio completion target passed during this week with the under-construction notice still live on the page through week's end; the roadmap behind that notice (an AI-driven chat redesign) has not been scoped, so the target's substance was unmet even before its date. On the positive side, this is the first week this quarter with no deploy-time database incident, after two migrations were validated against a real database before shipping rather than reasoned about.
Decisions needed
Leadership: name the first volunteer reviewers, now unresolved for two straight weeks against a 203-decision queue. Decide how to publicly handle the passed 15 August Translation Studio target, since the notice naming it stayed live past its own date. Decide whether content generation resumes next week or stays deprioritized behind support and admin tooling.
Next Week
- Name the first volunteer reviewers for the German and Spanish queues, unresolved for two weeks
- Decide how to publicly handle the passed 15 August Translation Studio target
- Confirm /world-languages is now recording traffic in Plausible
- Decide whether content generation resumes or support/admin work continues to take priority
