Unmerited favor apart from human merit. বৰ (boon) carries a Puranic register of a deity granting a wish in exchange for austerity (tapasya) or devotion (bhakti) — exactly the merit-transaction Romans’ grace argument rejects. কৃপা may be used for ordinary compassion/mercy in non-salvific contexts only.
