This is the single highest-stakes term in Maithili because Mithila is the Ramayana’s own geographic setting — Sita’s mythological birthplace and the site of the Sita-Ram marriage — making avatar-descent theology a locally ‘owned’ story rather than distant background, and raising the risk that देहधारण is heard as one more chapter in that same story rather than a categorically different, unique event.
