Context-sensitive: in 1:1, called to apostleship; in 1:7, called to be saints; in 8:28-30, effectual calling to salvation. आहूतः is drawn from the Vedic sacrificial vocabulary of āhvāna, the ritual invocation of a deity to a yajña by mantra — repurposed here for God’s own sovereign summons of a person, a deliberate reversal of the Vedic direction of address (human invoking deity, versus God summoning human).
