HIGH: Somali lacks a clean separate word the way some languages distinguish civil/secular law from Islamic law; sharci is used for both. Qaanuunka (‘statute/code,’ also an Arabic loan but not the specifically Islamic-legal-system word) is used instead for the Mosaic law to avoid directly equating it with Sharia.
