Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Ephesians (Urdu Language Package)
This glossary lists every load-bearing theological term occurring in Ephesians 1-6. Terms already recorded in the Romans/Galatians baseline translation_memory.json are marked [BASELINE — REUSE EXACTLY] and their established Urdu rendering, transliteration, and risk tier are repeated here for reference only; do not re-derive or alter them. Terms newly introduced by Ephesians are marked [NEW] and carry full glossary fields, ready for promotion into translation_memory.json at the next version increment.
Risk tiers and review routing follow the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions exactly:
- Critical / High → mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
- Medium → native speaker review recommended.
- Low → automated review sufficient.

Critical Risk Terms
Salvation
Approved rendering: نجات
Transliteration: najāt
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: مکتی
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Ephesians 2:8’s perfect tense (‘you have been saved’) sharpens the existing assurance-of-salvation contrast with Islamic soteriology’s pre-judgment uncertainty; render with an unambiguous Urdu perfect (نجات پا چکے ہو), never a simple past.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: راستبازی
Transliteration: rāstbāzī
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: نیکی, تقویٰ
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Also occurs in the armor-of-God unit (6:14, breastplate of righteousness) and 4:24; inherits full Critical risk in every use.
God
Approved rendering: خدا
Transliteration: k͟hudā
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: اللہ
Original: θεός
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Never اللہ, per this Language Package’s Khuda-tradition choice.
Lord
Approved rendering: خداوند
Transliteration: k͟hudāvand
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: مالک, آقا
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly for the divine title (1:2-3; 4:5). Ephesians 6:5-9’s human ‘master’ sense of κύριος must instead use the NEW term مالک (see below) to keep this divine title’s exclusive weight undiluted.
Jesus
Approved rendering: یسوع
Transliteration: yasū’
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: عیسیٰ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Never bare عیسیٰ; always یسوع مسیح throughout Ephesians.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: روح القدس
Transliteration: rūḥ al-qudus
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Ephesians 4:30 (‘grieve not the Spirit’) and 5:18 (‘be filled with the Spirit’) are the letter’s strongest available texts for teaching the Spirit’s full personhood against the Qur’anic angel-Jibreel identification; highlight both explicitly.
Father
Approved rendering: باپ
Transliteration: bāp
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Source of every family/household naming (3:14-15); relational, not a begetting-claim; lower shirk-collision risk than Son of God but still best introduced with brief relational framing.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: خدا کا بیٹا
Transliteration: k͟hudā kā beṭā
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ابن اللہ
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Christology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Named explicitly at Ephesians 4:13, the church’s maturity-goal. Mandatory eternal-not-begotten annotation at every occurrence; the single most important recurring requirement in this package.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: قیامت
Transliteration: qiyāmat
Doctrine: Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: پنر جنم
Original: ἐγείρω / ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly, with the mandatory qualifying note distinguishing Christ’s own already-accomplished resurrection (1:20) from the general end-times qiyāmat. Eph 2:6’s believer-inclusive ‘raised with him’ additionally requires theologian review given proximity to the crucifixion-denial risk (Qur’an 4:157) underlying the whole doctrine — see NEW term union_with_christ_vivification below.
Messiah
Approved rendering: مسیح
Transliteration: masīḥ
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly, used throughout Ephesians as یسوع مسیح. The Qur’an’s own al-Masih for Isa lacks the divine sonship, atoning death, and cosmic headship content Ephesians assumes; teach this gap explicitly.
Children Of Wrath By Nature
Approved rendering: فطرتاً غضب کے فرزند
Transliteration: fiṭratan g͟hazab ke farzand
Doctrine: Total Depravity and Children of Wrath by Nature
Rejected alternatives: اپنے انتخاب سے غضب کے فرزند (choice-based softening), بعد میں غضب کے فرزند بننا (later-acquired-condition softening)
Original: τέκνα φύσει ὀργῆς
Category: Sin
NEW — CRITICAL. Eph 2:3. The single most direct textual collision in this curriculum with the Islamic fitrah hadith (every child born upon natural purity/soundness). This is a negation risk, not a wording problem: the underlying claim itself is contested. فطرتاً (‘by nature/by birth’) is the irreplaceable load-bearing word and must never be softened into a choice-based or later-acquired condition. Mandatory human theologian review, every occurrence.
Union With Christ Vivification
Approved rendering: مسیح کے ساتھ زندہ کیا / ساتھ اٹھایا / ساتھ بٹھایا
Transliteration: masīḥ ke sāth zindā kiyā / sāth uṭhāyā / sāth biṭhāyā
Doctrine: Resurrection and Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: a single collapsed verb (rejected; Urdu requires three separate compound verbs to carry συζωοποιέω/συνεγείρω/συγκαθίζω distinctly)
Original: συζωοποιέω / συνεγείρω / συγκαθίζω
Category: Salvation
NEW — CRITICAL. Eph 2:5-6. Union-with-Christ language must be taught as a real but non-ontological-merger union — positional, covenantal, Spirit-wrought — never read through a Sufi wahdat al-wujud (‘unity of being’) lens in which creature and Creator become one substance. Additionally inherits the baseline resurrection doctrine’s crucifixion-denial-adjacent risk (Qur’an 4:157). Mandatory human theologian review.
Works Unqualified
Approved rendering: اعمال
Transliteration: a’māl
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: شریعت کے اعمال (rejected as an artificial Mosaic-law qualifier not present in the Greek — would soften Paul’s actually broader, unqualified claim)
Original: ἔργα (unqualified)
Category: Salvation
NEW — CRITICAL. Eph 2:9. Human deeds of any kind, textually broader than Galatians’ repeated ‘works of the [Mosaic] law’ qualifier — no qualifying phrase is present in the Greek here. اعمال is itself a live, central Islamic deeds-at-judgment term (mizan at qiyamat). Must never be quoted or cached apart from good_works (2:10) — the pairing IS the doctrine. Mandatory human theologian review.
Good Works
Approved rendering: نیک اعمال
Transliteration: nek a’māl
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἔργα ἀγαθά
Category: Salvation
NEW — CRITICAL. Eph 2:10. Fruit and purpose of salvation, never its basis. Must always be taught paired with, and sequenced after, works_unqualified (2:9) — never presented as a standalone ethical exhortation disconnected from vv.8-9. Mandatory human theologian review; this pairing is the single highest-stakes translation unit in the core passage.
Predestined
Approved rendering: پہلے سے مقرر کیا گیا
Transliteration: pehle se muqarrar kiyā gayā
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: تقدیر (never as substitute)
Original: προορίζω
Category: Election
NEW — CRITICAL. Eph 1:5, 11. Sits directly beside the baseline election/providence taqdir caution (Ash’ari-Mu’tazila qadar debate), intensified by Ephesians 1’s unusual density of predestination vocabulary. Anchor specifically to God’s gracious choice of believers for salvation and adoption, never universal cosmic determinism. Mandatory human theologian review.
Mutual Submission
Approved rendering: تابع ہونا
Transliteration: tābe’ honā
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις
Category: Household
NEW — CRITICAL. Eph 5:21. Frames the entire household-code unit; must never be omitted or treated as a separate, lesser instruction from 5:22’s wife-specific submission. Direct comparability to Qur’an 4:34’s qawwamun framework. Mandatory human theologian review for the entire unit (5:21-33); 5:21 and 5:22-33 must always be translated as one continuous unit.
Headship
Approved rendering: سر
Transliteration: sar
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Rejected alternatives: direct comparison/rebuttal framing against Qur’an 4:34’s qawwamun (rejected for the base translation text; comparative engagement belongs only in supporting doctrinal material)
Original: κεφαλή (applied to the husband)
Category: Household
NEW — CRITICAL. Eph 5:23, applied to the husband. Must always carry 5:25’s self-sacrificial, cross-shaped definition (‘gave himself up for her’) explicitly attached in the same teaching unit, never presented as bare authority. Mandatory human theologian review.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: خوش خبری
Transliteration: khush khabrī
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: انجیل شریف کی تعلیم
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. In Ephesians, the content of the revealed mystery itself (1:13; 3:6; 6:15, 19). Distinguish from انجیل used alone (tahrif/corruption-of-scripture association).
Grace
Approved rendering: فضل
Transliteration: faz̤l
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: رحمت, احسان, کرم
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. In Ephesians 2:4-8 keep فضل (v.5, 8) visibly distinct from the new term رحمت (v.4, see below) so ἔλεος/χάρις remain doctrinally separable.
Faith
Approved rendering: ایمان
Transliteration: īmān
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Object of faith (Christ) must remain explicit whenever Ephesians 2:8 is cited in isolation.
Saints
Approved rendering: مقدس لوگ
Transliteration: muqaddas log
Doctrine: Sanctification and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: ولی
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Corporate designation for all believers (1:1, 15, 18; 3:8, 18; 5:3; 6:18), never an ascetic Sufi elite (wali).
Holy
Approved rendering: پاک
Transliteration: pāk
Doctrine: Sanctification and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: طاہر
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. God’s eternal purpose that believers be ‘holy and blameless’ (1:4) and the church presented ‘holy and without blemish’ (5:27); moral/relational, never ritual-purity (tahara).
Glory
Approved rendering: جلال
Transliteration: jalāl
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Repeated goal-clause of Eph 1 (‘to the praise of his glory,’ 1:6, 12, 14); always anchored to God/Christ specifically.
Covenant
Approved rendering: عہد
Transliteration: ahd
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: معاہدہ
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. ‘Covenants of promise’ (2:12), from which Gentiles were formerly strangers.
Promise
Approved rendering: وعدہ
Transliteration: wa’dah
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: ἐπαγγελία
Category: Covenant
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Ground of Gentile inclusion (2:12; 3:6), the Spirit’s sealing (1:13), and the commandment ‘with promise’ given to children (6:2). Genuine bridge word (Quranic wa’d); unconditional sense retained.
Election
Approved rendering: خدا کا انتخاب
Transliteration: k͟hudā kā intik͟hāb
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: تقدیر
Original: ἐκλέγομαι
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Eph 1:4 pairs this tightly with the NEW term پہلے سے مقرر کیا گیا (predestined), intensifying the existing taqdir-adjacency caution; engage taqdir directly and respectfully in supporting material, never avoid it.
Called
Approved rendering: بلایا گیا
Transliteration: bulāyā gayā
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: دعوت دی گئی
Original: κλητός / κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Eph 4:1, 4: the shared, unifying ‘one calling.’ Never دعوت.
Calling
Approved rendering: بلاہٹ
Transliteration: bulāhaṭ
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: دعوت
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Eph 1:18, ‘the hope of his calling.’ Never دعوت.
Adoption
Approved rendering: لے پالک بنانا
Transliteration: le-pālak banānā
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: υἱοθεσία
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Eph 1:5, predestined for adoption. Relational framing, not Islamic lineage-adoption law (Qur’an 33:4-5).
Redemption
Approved rendering: چھڑایا / چھٹکارا
Transliteration: chhuṛāyā / chhuṭkārā
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Eph 1:7, 14; 4:30: redemption through Christ’s blood and the Spirit’s seal. Distinct from fidyah’s compensatory-payment logic.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: خدا کی قدرت
Transliteration: k͟hudā kī qudrat
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Eph 1:19; 3:7, 16, 20. Safe shared divine-attribute vocabulary.
Sin
Approved rendering: گناہ
Transliteration: gunāh
Doctrine: Total Depravity and Children of Wrath by Nature
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Paired with NEW term خطائیں (trespasses) at 2:1; the existing inherited-Adamic-sin-nature note is intensified, not merely repeated, by Eph 2:1-3 (see children_of_wrath_by_nature below).
Flesh
Approved rendering: جسم
Transliteration: jism
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Rejected alternatives: نفس
Original: σάρξ
Category: Sin
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Self-reliant sinful nature (2:3, 11; 6:12) vs. the literal physical body (5:29; 6:5). MUST NEVER be conflated with the NEW terms بدن (corporate body of Christ) or ایک تن (one flesh, marriage), which use deliberately different Urdu words for their distinct senses. Never نفس, to avoid importing the Sufi nafs-discipline framework.
New Creation
Approved rendering: نئی مخلوق
Transliteration: na’ī makhlūq
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: καινὸς / κτίζω
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Individual counterpart to the NEW corporate term ایک نیا انسان (one new man, 2:15). Eph 2:10, 15; 4:24.
Law Of Christ
Approved rendering: مسیح کی شریعت
Transliteration: masīḥ kī sharī’at
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: ὁ νόμος τοῦ Χριστοῦ (conceptual)
Category: Covenant
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Informs Eph 5:2’s command to ‘walk in love, as Christ loved us’; tie explicitly to the love-command, never a rival shari’ah.
Dead Spiritually
Approved rendering: مرے ہوئے
Transliteration: mare hu’e
Doctrine: Total Depravity and Children of Wrath by Nature
Rejected alternatives: کمزور, بیمار
Original: νεκρός
Category: Sin
NEW. Eph 2:1, 5. Total spiritual incapacity apart from Christ. کمزور (weak) and بیمار (sick) explicitly rejected — they soften a total-incapacity claim into a partial one. No equivalent in Islamic fitrah doctrine (natural purity at birth, individual non-inherited accountability); never soften to ‘weak’ or ‘sick.‘
Prince Of The Power Of The Air
Approved rendering: فضا کی طاقت کا حاکم
Transliteration: fazā kī tāqat kā ḥākim
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: ابلیس (as a direct one-to-one substitution), شیطان (as a direct one-to-one substitution)
Original: ὁ ἄρχων τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW. Eph 2:2. Genuine structural overlap with Islamic cosmology’s Shaitan/Iblis, but must not be presented as a one-to-one equivalent, since the NT narrative (Satan’s fall, defeat at the cross, believers’ authority in Christ over him) differs from Qur’anic material. Teach on Ephesians’ own terms.
Gift Concrete
Approved rendering: عطیہ
Transliteration: aṭiyah
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: δῶρον
Category: Salvation
NEW. Eph 2:8. The concrete noun-form of grace’s disposition; must be kept distinct from and subordinate to فضل, not introduced as a competing or independent theological category.
Purpose Of His Will
Approved rendering: اپنی مرضی کی خوشی کے مطابق
Transliteration: apnī marzī kī k͟hushī ke mutābiq
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: ἡ εὐδοκία τοῦ θελήματος αὐτοῦ
Category: Election
NEW. Eph 1:5, 9, 11. Same taqdir-adjacency caution as predestined; teach as God’s personal, relational delight, not impersonal fatalism.
Sealed With The Spirit
Approved rendering: مہر لگانا
Transliteration: muhr lagānā
Doctrine: Assurance and the Seal of the Spirit
Original: σφραγίζω
Category: Church
NEW. Eph 1:13; 4:30. Inherits the baseline holy_spirit Critical-risk note (روح القدس is itself a Qur’anic phrase traditionally identified with the angel Jibreel); the sealing Agent must remain fully personal, never reduced to an impersonal mark.
Body Of Christ
Approved rendering: بدن
Transliteration: badan
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: جسم (rejected — already carries the established ‘sinful flesh/nature’ sense from the baseline; using the same word would collapse two distinct senses)
Original: σῶμα
Category: Church
NEW. Eph 1:22-23; 4:4, 12, 16; 5:23-30. Deliberately distinct from جسم. Confirm and lock بدن vs. جسم vs. ایک تن (5:31) as three permanently distinct lexical items; recommend a translator’s note at first occurrence.
Head Metaphorical
Approved rendering: سر
Transliteration: sar
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Church
NEW. Eph 1:22; 4:15; also 5:23 (household use, see headship below). Christ’s headship over the church as his body. Consistency required across both usages within the book.
One New Man
Approved rendering: ایک نیا انسان
Transliteration: ek nayā insān
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: امت (ummah — rejected; it is a supersessionist Islamic communal-identity concept grounded in shared law-submission, not union with the crucified/risen Christ)
Original: εἷς καινὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Church
NEW. Eph 2:15. Must never be rendered/explained via the Islamic ummah concept despite the surface similarity of a corporate identity transcending prior ethnic division; grounded specifically in union with the crucified and risen Christ. Corporate counterpart to new_creation. Mandatory human theologian review — highest fluency-risk false friend in the package.
Mystery
Approved rendering: راز
Transliteration: rāz
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: transliterated Greek loanword (rejected as unintelligible), framing via al-ghayb or kashf vocabulary (rejected — Ephesians’ mystery is the theological inverse of both)
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Mystery
NEW. Eph 1:9; 3:3-9; 5:32; 6:19. Collides with TWO distinct Islamic vocabulary categories: al-ghayb (unseen knowledge reserved to Allah alone, Qur’an 27:65) and Sufi ‘irfan/kashf (esoteric knowledge attained by a spiritual elite). Ephesians’ mystery is sovereignly disclosed, openly, to all believers — neither withheld nor elite-attained. Mandatory clarifying frame at first occurrence in every document; mandatory human theologian review.
Access Boldness
Approved rendering: دلیری اور رسائی
Transliteration: dilerī aur rasā’ī
Doctrine: Prayer and Direct Access to God
Original: παρρησία / προσαγωγή
Category: Faith
NEW. Eph 3:12; cf. 2:18. Direct, unmediated access to God through Christ, no priestly or intercessory gatekeeper. A genuinely instructive contrast with Islamic mediated-approach (salat) and future-intercession (Muhammad) doctrine; teach the contrast explicitly, as an apologetic opportunity, not merely a risk.
Fullness
Approved rendering: بھرپوری
Transliteration: bharpūrī
Doctrine: The Fullness of Christ in the Church
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Christology
NEW. Eph 1:23; 3:19; 4:13. ‘Fills all in all’ (1:23) risks a pantheistic misreading structurally similar to Sufi wahdat al-wujud (unity-of-being); must be taught with explicit Creator/creature distinction across all three occurrences, each with a different grammatical subject (Christ fills; believers filled with; believers grow toward).
Unity Sevenfold
Approved rendering: ایک بدن، ایک روح، ایک امید، ایک خداوند، ایک ایمان، ایک بپتسمہ، ایک خدا اور باپ
Transliteration: ek badan, ek rūḥ, ek umīd, ek k͟hudāvand, ek īmān, ek baptismā, ek k͟hudā aur bāp
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Category: Church
NEW. Eph 4:3-6. This sevenfold creedal-sounding list superficially resembles the six articles of Islamic iman already flagged in the baseline faith entry (‘assent to a creedal list’ risk). Teach explicitly that this list names shared realities believers already possess through union with Christ, not a checklist for admission to the faith.
Grieve The Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: روح القدس کو غمگین کرنا
Transliteration: rūḥ al-qudus ko g͟hamgīn karnā
Doctrine: Sanctification and Holiness
Original: λυπεῖτε τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον
Category: God
NEW. Eph 4:30. Presupposes the Spirit’s full personhood — a strong affirmation directly countering the Qur’anic angel-Jibreel identification of ruh al-qudus. Recommend highlighting this verse specifically in teaching on the Spirit’s personhood.
Fragrant Sacrifice Offering
Approved rendering: خوشبودار قربانی
Transliteration: k͟hushbūdār qurbānī
Doctrine: Imitation of God and Christlike Love
Original: θυσία, προσφορά, ὀσμὴ εὐωδίας
Category: Salvation
NEW. Eph 5:2. Christ’s self-giving death in explicit OT sacrificial-cultic terms. قربانی is deceptively familiar (Eid al-Adha vocabulary), a genuine bridge but risks being heard as commemorative/symbolic rather than substitutionary-atoning. Directly engages the baseline’s Critical crucifixion/atonement escalation rule (Qur’an 4:157); never allegorize or soften. Mandatory theologian review.
Filled With The Spirit
Approved rendering: روح سے بھر جانا
Transliteration: rūḥ se bhar jānā
Doctrine: Sanctification and Holiness
Original: πληροῦσθε ἐν Πνεύματι
Category: Sanctification
NEW. Eph 5:18. Ongoing, Spirit-empowered life contrasted with drunkenness. Inherits the baseline holy_spirit Critical-risk note; must retain the Spirit’s personal agency, never an impersonal-force or intoxication-like reading.
Principalities Powers
Approved rendering: حکمرانیاں اور اختیارات / اس دنیا کی تاریکی کے حکمران / شریر روحانی طاقتیں
Transliteration: ḥukmrāniyā̃ aur ik͟htiyārāt / is dunyā ke tārīkī ke ḥukmrān / sharīr rūḥānī tāqatẽ
Doctrine: Spiritual Authority and Cosmic Powers
Rejected alternatives: direct one-to-one loanword substitution with جن/شیطان/ابلیس categories (rejected as over-mapping)
Original: ἀρχαί, ἐξουσίαι, κοσμοκράτορες τοῦ σκότους τούτου, τὰ πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW. Eph 6:12, continuing 1:21; 2:2; 3:10. Genuine structural overlap with Islamic jinn/Shaitan/Iblis cosmology — real personal spiritual opposition affirmed by both traditions — but must be taught on Ephesians’ own narrative terms (an organized hierarchy already defeated at the cross, subject to Christ’s exalted lordship), never mapped feature-for-feature onto Islamic angelology/demonology. Recommend native-speaker cultural-context review given live folk-Islamic jinn-affliction practice.
Medium Risk Terms
Church
Approved rendering: کلیسیا
Transliteration: kalīsiyā
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ

Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity

Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly (extended with میراث in Ephesians). Eph 1:11, 14, 18; 3:6; 5:5. Inheritance by grace-promise, never merit; میراث also names Islamic property inheritance law — clarify the spiritual sense in context.
Peace
Approved rendering: صلح
Transliteration: ṣulḥ
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: سلامتی
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Eph 2:14-17: Christ himself ‘is our peace,’ abolishing the dividing wall; also 1:2; 4:3; 6:15, 23.

Approved rendering: رسول
Transliteration: rasūl
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: نبی
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
INHERITED FROM ROMANS/GALATIANS BASELINE — reuse exactly. Eph 1:1; 2:20; 3:5; 4:11. Distinguish from the Quranic scripture-bearing-messenger paradigm culminating in Muhammad as ‘seal of the prophets.‘
Trespasses
Approved rendering: خطائیں
Transliteration: khatā’ẽ
Doctrine: Total Depravity and Children of Wrath by Nature
Original: παράπτωμα
Category: Sin
NEW. Ephesians 2:1, 5; also 1:7 (‘forgiveness of trespasses’). Introduce as a near-synonym paired with گناہ, not a separate theological category the reader must distinguish.
Sons Of Disobedience
Approved rendering: نافرمانی کے فرزند
Transliteration: nāfarmānī ke farzand
Doctrine: Total Depravity and Children of Wrath by Nature
Original: υἱοὶ τῆς ἀπειθείας
Category: Sin
NEW. Eph 2:2. Hebraic idiom for characteristic quality, paralleled by ‘children of light/darkness’ (5:8). Doctrinal weight sits in the total-depravity claim, not this phrase itself.
Wrath
Approved rendering: غضب
Transliteration: g͟hazab
Doctrine: Total Depravity and Children of Wrath by Nature
Original: ὀργή
Category: God
NEW. Eph 2:3; 5:6. Shared vocabulary with Islamic theology (Allah’s ghadab); genuine bridge term, but must retain its specifically moral-judicial character, not diffuse anger.
Mercy
Approved rendering: رحمت
Transliteration: raḥmat
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation
NEW. Eph 2:4, ‘rich in mercy.’ Per the baseline grace entry’s own explicit permission, used here for God’s general mercy/compassion, deliberately kept distinct from فضل (reserved for the specific unmerited, apart-from-works sense) within the same short span, 2:4-8.
Heavenly Places
Approved rendering: آسمانی مقامات
Transliteration: āsmānī maqāmāt
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: ἐπουράνιος
Category: Church
NEW. Key structural term occurring five times (1:3, 20; 2:6; 3:10; 6:12); keep the rendering consistent across all five occurrences per the baseline’s cross-document consistency principle.
Workmanship
Approved rendering: خدا کی کاریگری
Transliteration: k͟hudā kī kārīgarī
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ποίημα
Category: Salvation
NEW. Eph 2:10. Identity conferred by God as maker; the fruit (good works) flows from this prior making, never its cause.

Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: καυχάομαι
Category: Salvation
NEW. Eph 2:9. Connect explicitly in teaching material to the baseline’s grace-vs-works-and-merit escalation rule.

Transliteration: bayānah
Doctrine: Assurance and the Seal of the Spirit
Original: ἀρραβών

Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: τὸ μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ

Transliteration: sāth ke wāris
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity

Doctrine: Spiritual Authority and Cosmic Powers
Original: ἡ πολυποίκιλος σοφία τοῦ Θεοῦ

Teacher
Approved rendering: معلم
Transliteration: mu’allim
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: استاد (rejected as primary — even more strongly tied to durable, hierarchical guru/ustadh-type religious authority)
Original: διδάσκαλος
Category: Ministry
NEW. Eph 4:11. Real association with the Islamic ustadh/‘alim religious-teacher role, echoing the Galatians paidagogos caution. Frame every occurrence under Christ’s headship and the fivefold gifts’ shared, interdependent equipping purpose (4:11-13), never as an independent authority structure parallel to the ulama.
Old Man New Man
Approved rendering: پرانا انسان / نیا انسان

Transliteration: utār denā / pahan lenā
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: ἀποθέσθαι / ἐνδύσασθαι

Category: Sanctification
NEW. Eph 5:1. Risks sounding presumptuous or shirk-adjacent to a reader sensitized to Qur’an 42:11 (‘there is nothing like unto Him’); must be explicitly framed as moral imitation of God’s revealed character, never an ontological-equivalence claim.

One Flesh Marriage
Approved rendering: ایک تن
Transliteration: ek tan
Doctrine: Marriage as a Picture of Christ and the Church
Rejected alternatives: جسم (rejected — would cross-contaminate with the established ‘flesh as sinful nature’ sense)

Category: Household
NEW. Eph 5:31, citing Genesis 2:24, typologically applied to Christ and the church (5:32). Deliberately not جسم. Translator’s note required at first occurrence distinguishing it from جسم.
Bondservants Masters
Approved rendering: غلام / مالک
Transliteration: g͟hulām / mālik
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: δοῦλοι / κύριοι
Category: Household
NEW. Eph 6:5-9. مالک (human ‘master’) kept visibly distinct from the divine title خداوند, especially since both appear near each other in this passage (6:9, ‘their Master and yours’). Per the baseline slavery entry, never politicized toward a named living community; teach the passage’s own relativizing, dignity-affirming logic and its contemporary employer-employee application.
Children And Parents
Approved rendering: والدین کی فرمانبرداری / بچوں کو غصہ نہ دلانا
Transliteration: wālidain kī farmānbardārī / bachõ ko g͟hussā nah dilānā
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: τὰ τέκνα… ὑπακούετε / οἱ πατέρες, μὴ παροργίζετε

Armor Of God

Transliteration: k͟hudā kī pūrī zirah baktar
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Rejected alternatives: جہاد-adjacent vocabulary (absolutely forbidden — see 12_ai_translation_requirements.md forbidden substitutions)
Original: ἡ πανοπλία τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW. Eph 6:11, 13. Strictly metaphorical, defensive-postured, non-violent; the passage names no offensive weapon except ‘the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God’ (6:17). Never drift toward militant vocabulary resembling jihad, a highly charged term in Urdu-speaking contexts.
Walk Conduct
Approved rendering: چلنا / چال چلن
Transliteration: chalnā / chāl chalan
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: περιπατέω
Category: Sanctification
NEW. The controlling metaphor for the entire ‘Walking in Newness of Life’ strand (2:2; 4:1, 17; 5:2, 8, 15). Genuine, low-risk bridge point with Islamic sirat/din (‘path,’ ‘way of life’), though the two must not be treated as identical: this walk is a Spirit-empowered pattern of daily life flowing from an already-completed salvation (2:8-10), not a path walked toward earning standing before God.
Word Of God Sword Of Spirit
Approved rendering: روح کی تلوار، یعنی خدا کا کلام
Transliteration: rūḥ kī talwār, ya’nī k͟hudā kā kalām
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: ἡ μάχαιρα τοῦ Πνεύματος, ὅ ἐστιν ῥῆμα Θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW. Eph 6:17. The one offensive item in the armor of God, identified explicitly as ‘the word of God.’ Connect explicitly to the baseline’s inspiration_of_scripture doctrine caution, distinguishing Scripture from the Qur’an’s own final-revelation claim.
