Core Glossary
Core Glossary: Jude
Curriculum: Jude
Language pair: English–Urdu
Note on baseline reuse: Terms marked “Baseline TM — reuse exactly” are already fixed in the Romans/Galatians translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json and MUST NOT be altered for this curriculum. Terms marked “New for Jude” are proposed here for the first time and must be added to translation memory (with version increment) before Phase 2 begins, per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md’s term-intake procedure.
Doctrine Cluster 1: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
| Term (EN) | Greek / Translit. | Urdu Rendering | Translit. | Risk | Status | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| faith (the faith once delivered) | πίστις / pistis | ایمان | īmān | Critical | Baseline TM — reuse exactly | Here πίστις names a fixed, closed body of apostolic doctrine, not primarily personal trust; risk of resembling the Islamic notion of a settled creedal deposit — must be anchored to apostolic gospel content about Christ crucified and risen, never left as an abstract “the faith.” |
| contend earnestly | ἐπαγωνίζομαι / epagōnizesthai | جانفشانی سے مقابلہ کرنا | jān-fishānī se muqābalah karnā | High | New for Jude | Combative, effortful verb; must not be softened to passive “hold to” or “believe.” |
| delivered/handed down (once for all) | παραδίδωμι (ἅπαξ παραδοθείσῃ) / paradidōmi | ایک بار ہمیشہ کے لیے سونپا گیا | ek bār hameshah ke liye sõpā gayā | High | New for Jude | Must be taught as complete, sufficient, apostolic content — not implying anything is missing or later superseded (the reverse of Jude’s own point); avoid any implicit parallel to a “final revelation supersedes and corrects” framework. |
| build up (on the faith) | ἐποικοδομέω / epoikodomeō | تعمیر کرنا | ta’mīr karnā | High | New for Jude (aligns with baseline mutual-edification pattern) | Combines with پاک + ایمان in “most holy faith” (v. 20); intensifies, does not add to, the v. 3 deposit. |
| apostles | ἀπόστολος / apostolos | رسول | rasūl | Medium | Baseline TM — reuse exactly | Watch for the Quranic scripture-bearing-messenger paradigm culminating in Muhammad as “seal of the prophets”; these are those commissioned directly by the risen Christ. |
Doctrine Cluster 2: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
| Term (EN) | Greek / Translit. | Urdu Rendering | Translit. | Risk | Status | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ungodly / ungodliness | ἀσεβής, ἀσέβεια / asebēs, asebeia | بے خدا | be-k͟hudā | High | New for Jude | Rejected alternative: بے دین (“irreligious”) — wrongly implies non-practicing/outsider status, whereas Jude’s false teachers are religiously active infiltrators (v. 4, v. 12). Anchor to concrete behaviors listed in vv. 8, 10, 16, 18-19, not left as a bare abstract label. |
| crept in unnoticed | παρεισδύω / pareisdyō | چوری چھپے گھس آنا | chorī chhupe ghus ānā | Medium | New for Jude | Must convey covert insider infiltration, not open outside opposition. |
| grace turned to licentiousness | ἀσέλγεια (w/ χάρις) / aselgeia | عیاشی | ’ayyāshī | High | New for Jude | The abuse/perversion of فضل (grace), not evidence that grace-without-works logic itself produces lawlessness; polemical force must be unmistakable. |
| judgment | κρίσις, κρίμα / krisis, krima | عدالت | ’adālat | High | New for Jude | Do NOT use قیامت (reserved for bodily resurrection per baseline) — avoid overloading that term; note “the great day” evokes but must be distinguished from Islamic Yaum al-Qiyāmah, itself a shared but not identical concept. |
| convict / expose | ἐλέγχω / elegchō | مجرم ثابت کرنا | mujrim s̱ābit karnā | Medium-High | New for Jude | Compounds with ungodly-vocabulary; keep judgment register formal, not casual accusation. |
| dreamers | ἐνυπνιάζομαι / enypniazomai | خواب دیکھنے والے | k͟hwāb dekhne wāle | Medium | New for Jude | A critique of these specific false teachers’ self-authorizing claims, not a blanket verdict on dreams as a category — Islamic tradition holds true dreams (ru’yā ṣādiqah) in real regard. |
| defile (the flesh) | μιαίνω / miainō | ناپاک کرنا | nāpāk karnā | Medium | New for Jude | Moral defilement, not ritual purity (wuḍūʾ/ghusl-adjacent) — same caution baseline gives distinguishing پاک from طاہر. |
| reject authority | ἀθετέω κυριότητα / atheteō kyriotēta | اختیار کو رد کرنا | ik͟htiyār ko rad karnā | Medium | New for Jude | κυριότης = general authority/dominion; do not confuse with κύριος/خداوند (Christ’s own Lordship). |
| glorious ones / dignitaries | δόξαι (pl.) / doxai | بزرگ ہستیاں | buzurg hastiyāñ | High | New for Jude | Deliberately NOT جلال — reserve جلال exclusively for God’s/Christ’s own glory (fixed elsewhere in same letter, v. 25); this plural refers to created celestial/angelic beings. |
| blaspheme / speak evil of | βλασφημέω / blasphēmeō | گستاخی کرنا / بےحرمتی کرنا | gustākhī karnā | High | New for Jude | Deliberately avoid the کفر root — a specific, loaded Islamic unbelief-category term forbidden elsewhere in this package (کافر) for parallel reasons. |
| woe | οὐαί / ouai | افسوس / وائے ہو | afsōs / wā’e ho | Low-Medium | New for Jude | Formal prophetic pronouncement register, not casual regret. |
| corrupted / destroyed | φθείρω, ἀπόλλυμι / phtheirō, apollymi | تباہ ہونا / ہلاک ہونا | tabāh honā / halāk honā | Medium | New for Jude | Keep consistent with judgment-vocabulary family (عدالت). |
| grumblers / complainers | γογγυστής, μεμψίμοιρος / gongystēs, mempsimoiros | بڑبڑانے والے، شکایتی لوگ | baṛbaṛāne wāle, shikāyatī log | Low | New for Jude | Echoes OT wilderness-generation motif; low risk. |
| lusts / desires | ἐπιθυμία / epithymia | خواہشات | k͟hwāhishāt | Medium | New for Jude | Avoid نفسانی as the primary/default rendering; never substitute نفس-root vocabulary for جسم/σάρξ itself (Galatians-package caution). |
| mockers / scoffers | ἐμπαίκτης / empaiktēs | ٹھٹھا کرنے والے | ṭhaṭṭhā karne wāle | Low-Medium | New for Jude | Standard eschatological “last days” vocabulary. |
| cause divisions | ἀποδιορίζω / apodiorizō | پھوٹ ڈالنے والے | phūṭ ḍālne wāle | Medium-High | New for Jude | Deliberately avoid تفرقہ/فرقہ (Arabic ف-ر-ق root) — loaded Islamic sectarianism (firqah) discourse; use the native root پھوٹ instead. |
| sensual / natural (not spiritual) | ψυχικός / psychikos | نفسانی (روح کے بغیر) | nafsānī (rūḥ ke baġẖair) | High | New for Jude | Jude itself supplies the Spirit-contrast; still flag for review given accumulated نفس-root cautions elsewhere in package — must not suggest a graduated Sufi nafs-discipline model. |
Doctrine Cluster 3: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
| Term (EN) | Greek / Translit. | Urdu Rendering | Translit. | Risk | Status | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Egypt | Αἴγυπτος / Aigyptos | مصر | Miṣr | Low | New for Jude | Shared proper name with Qur’anic Miṣr; low risk. |
| destroyed (those who did not believe) | ἀπόλλυμι / apollymi | ہلاک کرنا | halāk karnā | High | New for Jude | Doctrinal tension: those already “saved” (v. 5) can be destroyed for subsequent unbelief — teach as warning to a mixed visible community, not loss of genuine Spirit-given faith; do not resolve this tension by softening the translation. |
| angels | ἄγγελος / angelos | فرشتے | fereshte | Critical | New for Jude | Direct doctrinal collision: mainstream Islamic doctrine (Qur’an 66:6) holds angels categorically cannot disobey; the rebellious figure (Iblis) is classified as jinn, not angel, precisely to preserve this. Jude 1:6 asserts angels who did rebel. Requires explicit, pastorally-aware teaching, not silent translation. |
| kept / preserved | τηρέω / tēreō | محفوظ رکھنا / قائم رکھنا | maḥfūz̤ rakhnā / qā’im rakhnā | High | New for Jude | The letter’s structural keyword (vv. 1, 6, 13, 21, 24); use one consistent Urdu root throughout so the ironic structural echo (kept vs. not-kept) survives translation. Ties directly to “Kept by God and Presented Blameless.” |
| eternal chains / darkness | δεσμοῖς ἀιδίοις, ζόφος / desmois aidiois, zophos | ابدی زنجیریں، گہری تاریکی | abadī zanjīrẽ, gahrī tārīkī | Medium | New for Jude | Standard judgment imagery. |
| Sodom and Gomorrah | Σόδομα καὶ Γόμορρα / Sodoma kai Gomorra | سدوم اور عمورہ | Sadūm aur ‘Amūrah | Medium | New for Jude | Genuine bridge: Qur’an also narrates Lot’s people’s destruction for sexual immorality (7:80-84; 11:77-83); do not import Quranic narrative specifics or imply full equivalence. |
| sexual immorality | πορνεία, ἐκπορνεύω / porneia, ekporneuō | بدکاری / حرام کاری | badkārī / ḥarām kārī | High | New for Jude | Never زنا — that word names the specific Islamic legal (hudud) category with its own evidentiary/penal apparatus, foreign to Jude’s moral-theological point. |
| strange flesh | σάρξ ἑτέρα / sarx hetera | غیر معمولی جسمانی تعلقات (context-sensitive) | g͟hair-mu’āmūlī jismānī ta’alluqāt | High | New for Jude | σάρξ itself = جسم (Galatians-package reuse); handle the euphemism with sensitivity, never نفس. |
| example / warning-lesson | δεῖγμα / deigma | عبرت | ’ibrat | Low-Medium (positive bridge) | New for Jude | Genuinely shared Qur’anic didactic vocabulary (destroyed peoples as ‘ibrat); positive point of contact, though Jude’s specific typological application (warning to false teachers within the church) is its own. |
| eternal fire | πυρὸς αἰωνίου / pyros aiōniou | ابدی آگ | abadī āg | Medium-High | New for Jude | Imagery itself low-collision (shared hellfire doctrine); risk is in flattening Jude’s typological in-house warning into generic outsider-directed hell-teaching. |
| Michael the archangel | Μιχαὴλ ὁ ἀρχάγγελος / Michaēl ho archangelos | میکائیل فرشتہ | Mīkā’īl fereshtah | Medium-High | New for Jude | Genuine bridge (Mīkā’īl named in Qur’an 2:98); the specific role here (disputing the devil over Moses’ body) is drawn from extrabiblical Jewish tradition and should not be presented as shared with or derived from Qur’anic material. |
| the devil | διάβολος / diabolos | شیطان | shaiṭān | Medium | New for Jude | Prefer شیطان over ابلیس — avoids forcing a species-classification claim (angel vs. jinn) the Urdu text need not make. |
| Enoch (seventh from Adam) | Ἑνώχ / Henōch | حنوک | Ḥanūk | High | New for Jude | Two-part flag: (1) direct citation of non-canonical 1 Enoch as prophecy — genuine canon question requiring exegetical handling; (2) widely-held Islamic identification of Idrīs with Enoch — present on Jude’s own terms without conceding or rebutting the parallel in the base translation, per the baseline’s Abraham/Ibrahim precedent. |
| prophesied | προφητεύω / prophēteuō | نبوت کی / پیشن گوئی کی | nabuwwat kī / peshan go’ī kī | Medium | New for Jude | Tied to the Enoch canon-status question above. |
| the Lord comes with holy myriads | ἦλθεν κύριος ἐν ἁγίαις μυριάσιν / ēlthen kyrios en hagiais myriasin | خداوند اپنے ہزاروں ہزار مقدسین کے ساتھ آتا ہے | k͟hudāvand apne hazārõ hazār muqaddasīn ke sāth ātā hai | Medium | New for Jude | Ambiguity between “holy angels” and “holy people/saints” is present in the Greek itself; preserve, don’t resolve artificially. |
| Cain / Balaam / Korah | Κάϊν, Βαλαάμ, Κόρε | قائن، بلعام، قورح | Qā’in, Bal’ām, Qūraḥ | Low-Medium | New for Jude | Shared narrative figures across traditions (Cain especially, cf. Qur’anic Qābīl tradition); no direct contradiction. |
| error / misguidance | πλάνη / planē | گمراہی | gumrāhī | Medium (positive bridge) | New for Jude | Genuinely shared, resonant hidāyat/gumrāhī polarity in Islamic-Urdu ethical vocabulary; keep metaphor consistent across vv. 11, 13. |
| shame | αἰσχύνη / aischynē | رسوائی | rusvā’ī | Medium-High | New for Jude | Honor/shame dynamics carry particular social weight in South Asian Muslim contexts (per baseline’s explicit flag); ensure metaphor’s target is unmistakably the false teachers themselves. |
| wandering stars | ἀστέρες πλανῆται / asteres planētai | آوارہ ستارے | āvārah sitāre | Low-Medium | New for Jude | Continues the gumrāhī/wandering-error metaphor family. |
| feasting in love-feasts | συνευωχέομαι ἐν ἀγάπαις / syneuōcheomai en agapais | محبت کی ضیافتوں میں کھانا کھانا | maḥabbat kī żiyāfatõ̃ mẽ khānā khānā | Low-Medium | New for Jude | No close Islamic-cultural parallel; brief explanatory note more useful than doctrinal caution. |
Doctrine Cluster 4: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
| Term (EN) | Greek / Translit. | Urdu Rendering | Translit. | Risk | Status | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| mercy | ἔλεος / eleos | رحمت | rahmat | High | New for Jude | Distinguish رحمت (general divine mercy/compassion, per baseline note) from فضل (unmerited grace, baseline Critical term); teach that Christ’s mercy here leads with assurance to eternal life, unlike the Islamic framework of mercy dispensed at an uncertain final weighing of deeds. |
| wavering / doubting | διακρίνομαι / diakrinomai | شک اور شبہے میں پڑے ہوئے لوگ | shak aur shubhe mẽ paṛe hu’e log | Critical | New for Jude | MUST NOT be rendered with vocabulary suggesting irtidād/riddah (formal Islamic apostasy) — a distinct, legally and socially severe category. These are struggling believers to be shown patient compassion, not defectors. Anchor doctrine of “Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering.” |
| save / rescue | σῴζω / sōzō | بچانا | bachānā | Critical | New for Jude (verb form of baseline نجات) | Apply the baseline’s full نجات contrastive-teaching requirement even in this verbal, vivid-rescue form. |
| snatch out (of the fire) | ἁρπάζω / harpazō | کھینچ کر بچانا | khīñch kar bachānā | Medium | New for Jude | Urgent, forceful rescue image; keep vivid. |
| fear (with mercy) | φόβος / phobos | خوف | k͟hauf | Medium | New for Jude | Sober caution against sin’s contamination, not fear of the person needing mercy — must not undercut the verse’s pastoral intent. |
| stained garment | χιτῶνα ἐσπιλωμένον / chitōna espilōmenon | آلودہ پیراہن | ālūdah pairāhan | Medium | New for Jude | Vivid contamination image; confirm moral (not ritual/wuḍūʾ) reading, consistent with μιαίνω caution above. |
Doctrine Cluster 5: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
| Term (EN) | Greek / Translit. | Urdu Rendering | Translit. | Risk | Status | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| kept in Jesus Christ (opening) | τετηρημένοις / tetērēmenois | محفوظ رکھے گئے ہیں | maḥfūz̤ rakhe ga’e haĩ | High | New for Jude | Frames the entire letter’s keeping-theme from its first line; use consistent τηρέω-root rendering throughout the book. |
| keep yourselves (in God’s love) | ἑαυτοὺς τηρήσατε / heautous tērēsate | اپنے آپ کو محفوظ رکھو | apne āp ko maḥfūz̤ rakho | High | New for Jude | Holds divine preservation (vv. 1, 24) and human responsibility (v. 21) in deliberate tension — structurally similar to the baseline’s taqdir/providence handling; do not resolve the tension by favoring one side. |
| guard from stumbling | φυλάσσω ἀπταίστους / phylassō aptaistous | لڑکھڑانے سے محفوظ رکھنا | laṛkhaṛāne se maḥfūz̤ rakhnā | High | New for Jude | Near-synonym of τηρέω; render with the same root to complete the letter’s keeping-theme at its climax. |
| present blameless before his glory | στῆσαι ἀμώμους κατενώπιον τῆς δόξης / stēsai amōmous katenōpion tēs doxēs | اپنے جلال کے حضور بے عیب کھڑا کرنا | apne jalāl ke ḥuz̤ūr be-‘aib khaṛā karnā | Critical | New for Jude | Sacrificial/forensic term (unblemished offering); connects directly to baseline’s justification/imputed-righteousness cluster — a granted status secured by God’s power, never a deeds-weighed (mizan-style) achievement. Mandatory theologian review. |
| great joy | ἀγαλλίασις / agalliasis | بڑی خوشی | baṛī k͟hushī | Low | New for Jude | Standard, low risk. |
| glory (God’s own) | δόξα / doxa | جلال | jalāl | High | Baseline TM — reuse exactly | This letter’s one unambiguous use of δόξα for God’s own glory (v. 24); must be kept distinct from v. 8’s δόξαι/بزرگ ہستیاں (created beings). |
Doctrine Cluster 6: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
| Term (EN) | Greek / Translit. | Urdu Rendering | Translit. | Risk | Status | Translation Risk Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| the only God, our Savior | μόνος θεός σωτήρ / monos theos sōtēr | واحد خدا ہمارا نجات دہندہ | vāḥid k͟hudā hamārā najāt-dihindah | Critical | New for Jude | Emphatic tawhid-resonant monotheism (genuine common ground) immediately followed by Christ-mediated glory-ascription; must not be flattened into an assimilable “God is one, Jesus leads to him” reading, nor allowed to obscure the real monotheistic affirmation. Mandatory theologian review. |
| through Jesus Christ our Lord | διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν / dia Iēsou Christou tou kyriou hēmōn | ہمارے خداوند یسوع مسیح کے وسیلے سے | hamāre k͟hudāvand Yasū’ Masīḥ ke wasīle se | Critical | Baseline TM — reuse خداوند, یسوع مسیح exactly | Trinitarian mediation-structure: glory to “the only God” comes specifically and only through Christ’s own mediating Lordship; both truths must be held together in teaching. |
| majesty | μεγαλωσύνη / megalōsynē | عظمت | ’az̤amat | Medium | New for Jude | Shared divine-attribute vocabulary (al-‘Aẕamah); low risk in isolation — risk is entirely upstream in the doxology’s Christological structure. |
| dominion / might | κράτος / kratos | قوت / اقتدار | qūvat / iqtidār | Medium | New for Jude | As above. |
| power / authority | ἐξουσία / exousia | اختیار | ik͟htiyār | Medium | New for Jude | As above. |
| forever / all ages | αἰών (πρὸ παντὸς τοῦ αἰῶνος… εἰς πάντας τοὺς αἰῶνας) / aiōn | ازل سے ابد تک، ابد تک | azal se abad tak, abad tak | Low | New for Jude | Standard doxological eternity language. |
| servant (of Jesus Christ) | δοῦλος / doulos | غلام | g͟hulām | Medium | New for Jude | Shared with Islamic devotional self-designation (‘abd, “slave of God”); genuinely resonant but must be anchored explicitly to Jesus Christ as owner/master, not left generic. |
| love (God’s / general) | ἀγάπη / agapē | محبت | maḥabbat | Low-Medium | New for Jude | Standard shared-vocabulary term; distinguish contextually from the technical “love-feast” sense (v. 12). |
| peace | εἰρήνη / eirēnē | صلح | ṣulḥ | Medium | Baseline TM — reuse exactly | Baseline reserves this specifically for Romans 5:1’s forensic sense; here it functions as a general greeting-blessing — reuse the same TM term for glossary consistency, understood contextually. |
Cross-Cutting Notes for Phase 2
- τηρέω-family consistency is the single highest-value structural choice in this book. The verb (and its cognates) occurs at vv. 1, 6, 13, 21, 24 and forms a deliberate ironic chain (kept believers / not-kept angels / judgment kept in reserve / believers commanded to keep themselves / God able to keep them from stumbling). One consistent Urdu root (محفوظ رکھنا) should be used at all five points wherever Urdu syntax permits.
- نفس-root vocabulary requires standing caution across this entire book, not only in the places already flagged in the Galatians package for σάρξ. ἐπιθυμία (vv. 16, 18) and ψυχικός (v. 19) both invite a نفس-root rendering; treat نفس as permissible only where the text’s own Spirit/flesh contrast makes the meaning unambiguous (v. 19), and never as the default choice.
- Three newly-introduced Critical terms unique to this book — διακρίνομαι (“wavering,” v. 22), σωτήρ in the doxology’s tawhid-adjacent structure (v. 25), and ἄμωμος/“presented blameless” (v. 24) — should be added to translation memory with the same Critical-tier mandatory-theologian-review routing already established for comparable baseline terms, before any Phase 2 segment translation proceeds.
- Positive bridge vocabulary (عبرت/‘ibrat, گمراہی/gumrāhī, Mīkā’īl, Cain/Qābīl, Sodom/Lot’s people) should be flagged for pastoral use, not avoidance — these are genuine points of shared narrative or ethical vocabulary that can aid comprehension, provided translators do not overstate equivalence with the Quranic material in the base translated text itself.
Critical Risk Terms
Faith Inherited
Approved rendering: ایمان
Transliteration: īmān
Doctrine: Faith
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. In Jude 1:3, 20 the word carries the letter’s own specific sense: a fixed, closed, transmitted body of apostolic gospel content (‘the faith once delivered’), not primarily personal trusting. This resembles the Islamic notion of a settled creedal deposit (six articles of iman) more closely than Romans’ emphasis on trust; must always be anchored explicitly to apostolic content about Christ crucified and risen, never left as an abstract ‘the faith,’ and never taught as implying anything is later added, corrected, or superseded.
Angels
Approved rendering: فرشتے
Transliteration: fereshte
Doctrine: Angelic Rebellion and Judgment
Original: ἄγγελοι
Category: Angelology
CRITICAL: mainstream Sunni doctrine (Qur’an 66:6, ‘they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them’) holds angels categorically incapable of disobedience; the rebellious figure (Iblis) is explicitly classified as jinn, not angel (Qur’an 18:50), precisely to preserve this. Jude 1:6 asserts the opposite — a class of angels who did rebel and are now bound for judgment. Translate plainly; do not euphemize or seek an alternative word, since the collision is doctrinal, not terminological. Mandatory human theologian review with explicit, pastorally-aware teaching at first occurrence.
Wavering Doubting
Approved rendering: شک اور شبہے میں پڑے ہوئے لوگ
Transliteration: shak aur shubhe mẽ paṛe hu’e log
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Rejected alternatives: مرتد, ارتداد, شکی (too weak/casual)
Original: διακρινομένους
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL (διακρινομένους, v.22): the anchor term of this curriculum’s ‘Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering’ doctrine. MUST NEVER be rendered with vocabulary suggesting irtidād/riddah (formal Islamic apostasy), a category carrying severe real-world social, familial, and in some jurisdictions legal consequences entirely foreign to Jude’s pastoral picture of a struggling believer within the community to be shown patient compassion. The multi-word descriptive phrase is deliberate — resist any Phase 2 pressure to compress this to a single, punchier word, since Urdu’s economy pressure toward a one-word solution is itself the danger here. Mandatory human theologian review.
Save Rescue
Approved rendering: بچانا
Transliteration: bachānā
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: σῴζετε
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL (σῴζω, v.23), verb form of the baseline’s Critical term نجات. Carries the full baseline نجات contrastive-teaching requirement even in this vivid, active verbal form: this rescue from judgment-fire is Christ-mediated deliverance, never a deeds-weighed outcome secured by the wavering person’s own performance.
Present Blameless
Approved rendering: اپنے جلال کے حضور بے عیب کھڑا کرنا
Transliteration: apne jalāl ke ḥuz̤ūr be-‘aib khaṛā karnā
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Original: στῆσαι κατενώπιον τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ ἀμώμους
Category: Salvation
CRITICAL (στῆσαι κατενώπιον τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ ἀμώμους, v.24). The letter’s culminating ‘Presented Blameless’ statement, a sacrificial-cultic term connecting directly to the baseline’s Critical justification/imputed-righteousness cluster. Must be taught with the same explicit contrast the baseline requires for راستباز ٹھہرایا جانا and منسوب راستبازی — a forensic, granted status secured entirely by God’s preserving power, never a moral achievement verified at a mizan-style weighing of deeds. Mandatory human theologian review.
Only God Our Savior
Approved rendering: واحد خدا ہمارا نجات دہندہ
Transliteration: vāḥid k͟hudā hamārā najāt-dihindah
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: μόνῳ θεῷ σωτῆρι ἡμῶν
Category: God
CRITICAL (μόνῳ θεῷ σωτῆρι ἡμῶν, v.25). Genuinely tawhid-resonant monotheistic affirmation — real common ground — immediately followed by glory-ascription mediated through Christ (see through_jesus_christ_our_lord entry). Must not be flattened into an undifferentiated ‘God is one, Jesus leads to him’ reading fully assimilable to Islamic theology, losing Christ’s co-equal share in the glory ascribed. Mandatory human theologian review.
Through Jesus Christ Our Lord
Approved rendering: ہمارے خداوند یسوع مسیح کے وسیلے سے
Transliteration: hamāre k͟hudāvand Yasū’ Masīḥ ke wasīle se
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Rejected alternatives: reducing ‘through’ (وسیلے سے) to a merely instrumental preposition implying Christ is only a channel
Original: διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν
Category: Christology
CRITICAL (διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν, v.25). Uses baseline’s fixed یسوع مسیح and خداوند exactly. This is a Trinitarian mediation-structure: glory reaches ‘the only God’ precisely and only through Christ’s own mediating Lordship. Must not be diluted into a prophet-intermediary reading. Urdu grammar permits both a smoothed, fully assimilable instrumental reading and a co-equal-glory reading from very similar surface forms — Phase 2 output must be checked specifically for this. Mandatory human theologian review.
Sovereign Master
Approved rendering: مطلق مالک
Transliteration: muṭlaq mālik
Doctrine: Deity and Lordship of Christ in Jude
CRITICAL (δεσπότην, v.4). Joined with خداوند in a single, grammatically unified clause (‘our only Sovereign/Master and Lord, Jesus Christ’) with the exclusivity marker μόνος (‘only’) — one of the strongest single-clause deity/lordship statements in the NT outside the Gospels and Paul, structurally echoing tawhid’s own exclusivity grammar but applied to Jesus Christ alone. No choice of wording dissolves this collision; only faithful translation joined to mandatory contextual teaching suffices. Mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence.
Common Salvation
Approved rendering: مشترکہ نجات
Transliteration: mushtarakah najāt
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
New for Jude (κοινῆς σωτηρίας, v.3), built on the baseline’s Critical نجات. ‘Common’ must be taught as ‘shared among all who trust Christ,’ never as a generic universal deliverance available on any terms; carries the full baseline نجات contrastive-teaching requirement.
Salvation Inherited
Approved rendering: نجات
Transliteration: najāt
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Rejected alternatives: مکتی
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Appears as κοινῆς σωτηρίας (v.3, ‘common salvation’) and as the verb σῴζω (v.23, ‘save/rescue’); every occurrence in Jude carries the full baseline contrastive-teaching requirement distinguishing Christ-secured deliverance from the Islamic mercy-weighed-against-deeds framework.
Holy Spirit Inherited
Approved rendering: روح القدس
Transliteration: rūḥ al-qudus
Doctrine: Prayer in the Holy Spirit and Building Up in the Faith
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Jude 1:20 (praying in the Holy Spirit) and 1:19 (the false teachers ‘not having the Spirit’) both carry the baseline’s mandatory caution: this exact phrase also occurs in the Qur’an (2:87, 253; 16:102), traditionally identified with the angel Jibril, not a co-equal divine Person. Heightened at v.19 because absence of the Spirit is the defining mark of the condemned false teachers.
Lord Inherited
Approved rendering: خداوند
Transliteration: k͟hudāvand
Doctrine: Deity and Lordship of Christ in Jude
Rejected alternatives: مالک, آقا
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Occurs at Jude 1:4 (joined with δεσπότης/مطلق مالک), 5, 9, 14, 17, 21, 25. Jude 1:4 compounds the baseline’s Lordship-of-Christ and Deity-of-Christ risks with an added exclusivity marker (μόνος). Mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence in this letter.
God Inherited
Approved rendering: خدا
Transliteration: k͟hudā
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Rejected alternatives: اللہ
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly, per this Language Package’s established Khuda-tradition choice over اللہ. Occurs at Jude 1:1, 21, 25.
Jesus Inherited
Approved rendering: یسوع
Transliteration: yasū’
Doctrine: Deity and Lordship of Christ in Jude
Rejected alternatives: عیسیٰ
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Always combined as یسوع مسیح per the 12_ai instruction; never bare عیسیٰ. Occurs at Jude 1:1, 4, 17, 21, 25.
Messiah Inherited
Approved rendering: مسیح
Transliteration: masīḥ
Doctrine: Deity and Lordship of Christ in Jude
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. The content behind the shared title (eternal Son, atoning death and resurrection, exclusive Lordship) must always be taught as going beyond the Quranic Isa al-Masih.
High Risk Terms
Contend Earnestly
Approved rendering: جانفشانی سے مقابلہ کرنا
Transliteration: jān-fishānī se muqābalah karnā
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Rejected alternatives: سخت جتن سے دفاع کرنا (defend with strenuous effort), ایمان پر قائم رہنا (passive ‘hold to/believe’)
Original: ἐπαγωνίζεσθαι
Category: Faith
New for Jude. Jude’s thesis verb (ἐπαγωνίζεσθαι), combative and effortful. Must not be softened to a passive posture; teaching notes must clarify the struggle is doctrinal-verbal defense within the believing community, not physical or political confrontation.
Delivered Once For All
Approved rendering: ایک بار ہمیشہ کے لیے سونپا گیا
Transliteration: ek bār hameshah ke liye sõpā gayā
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Original: ἅπαξ παραδοθείσῃ
Category: Faith
New for Jude. Technical language of authoritative, single, unrepeatable transmission (ἅπαξ παραδοθείσῃ). Must be taught as complete and sufficient apostolic content, never as one deposit in a sequence that could later be added to, corrected, or superseded — avoid any implicit parallel to a ‘final revelation supersedes and corrects’ framework.
Build Up In Faith
Approved rendering: تعمیر کرنا
Transliteration: ta’mīr karnā
Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered
Original: ἐποικοδομοῦντες
Category: Sanctification
New for Jude. Construction-metaphor (ἐποικοδομοῦντες) combined with superlative ‘most holy’ (پاک + ایمان) at v.20. Must be read as intensifying, never adding new content to, the v.3 deposit of faith.
Ungodly
Approved rendering: بے خدا
Transliteration: be-k͟hudā
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Rejected alternatives: بے دین
Original: ἀσεβεῖς / ἀσέβεια
Category: Sin
New for Jude. بے دین is rejected because it wrongly implies non-practicing/outsider status, whereas Jude’s false teachers are religiously active insiders (v.4, v.12’s love-feasts). بے خدا preserves practical, moral godlessness. Must always be anchored to the concrete behaviors Jude lists (vv. 8, 10, 16, 18-19), never left as a bare abstract label.
Licentiousness
Approved rendering: عیاشی
Transliteration: ‘ayyāshī
Doctrine: Grace Abused as License for Sin
Rejected alternatives: بےلگام شہوت پرستی
New for Jude (ἀσέλγεια). This verse (1:4) directly enacts the baseline’s grace/works risk: God’s grace (فضل) is distorted by false teachers into license. Must be taught as abuse and perversion of true grace, never as evidence that grace-apart-from-works logic itself produces lawlessness.
Judgment
Approved rendering: عدالت
Transliteration: ‘adālat
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Rejected alternatives: قیامت (reserved exclusively for Christ’s bodily resurrection per baseline), فیصلہ, سزا
Original: κρίσις / κρίμα
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (κρίσις/κρίμα, vv.4, 6, 9, 15). Must never be rendered with قیامت, which would overload that baseline term; ‘the great day’ of judgment (v.6) evokes but must be explicitly distinguished from the Islamic Yaum al-Qiyāmah — a shared but not identical concept.
Convict Expose
Approved rendering: مجرم ثابت کرنا
Transliteration: mujrim s̱ābit karnā
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: ἐλέγξαι
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (ἐλέγξαι, v.15). Compounds with ungodly-vocabulary; keep the judicial register formal (a court’s finding of guilt), not a casual accusation.
Glorious Ones Dignitaries
Approved rendering: بزرگ ہستیاں
Transliteration: buzurg hastiyāñ
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Rejected alternatives: جلال (reserved exclusively for God’s/Christ’s own glory)
Original: δόξαι
Category: Angelology
New for Jude (δόξαι, v.8, plural, of exalted celestial/angelic beings). Deliberately NOT جلال — reusing جلال here for created beings would blur a distinction this very letter draws at v.25.
Blaspheme
Approved rendering: گستاخی کرنا / بےحرمتی کرنا
Transliteration: gustākhī karnā / be-ḥurmatī karnā
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Rejected alternatives: کفر بولنا (کفر root)
Original: βλασφημοῦσιν
Category: Sin
New for Jude (βλασφημέω, vv.8, 10). Deliberately avoids the کفر root — a sharply loaded, specific Islamic unbelief-category term already forbidden elsewhere in this Language Package (e.g. for ‘Gentiles’) for the same reason.
Destroyed
Approved rendering: ہلاک کرنا
Transliteration: halāk karnā
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: ἀπώλεσεν / ἀπώλοντο
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (ἀπόλλυμι, vv.5, 11). Jude 1:5 asserts those already ‘saved’ out of Egypt were destroyed for subsequent unbelief — a genuine assurance-of-salvation tension. Must be taught as warning to a mixed visible community, never resolved by softening either half of the claim.
Cause Divisions
Approved rendering: پھوٹ ڈالنے والے
Transliteration: phūṭ ḍālne wāle
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Rejected alternatives: تفرقہ ڈالنا, فرقہ بنانا
Original: ἀποδιορίζοντες
Category: Church
New for Jude (ἀποδιορίζοντες, v.19). Deliberately avoids تفرقہ/فرقہ (Arabic ف-ر-ق root), carrying the specific, historically weighty Islamic sectarianism discourse (firqah, the ‘73 sects’ hadith tradition); پھوٹ ڈالنا uses a native root instead.
Sensual Natural
Approved rendering: نفسانی (روح کے بغیر)
Transliteration: nafsānī (rūḥ ke baġẖair)
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: ψυχικοί
Category: Sin
New for Jude (ψυχικοί, v.19). The one place in this book where a نفس-root rendering is defensible, since Jude itself supplies the Spirit-contrast; still flag for mandatory review to avoid suggesting a graduated Sufi nafs-discipline model rather than Jude’s binary claim (Spirit or no Spirit).
Kept Preserved
Approved rendering: محفوظ رکھنا
Transliteration: maḥfūz̤ rakhnā
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Rejected alternatives: قائم رکھنا, بچا رکھنا, نگہبانی کرنا
Original: τηρέω (τετηρημένοις, τηρήσατε, τετήρηται)
Category: Preservation
New for Jude (τηρέω, vv.1, 6, 13, 21, 24 — the letter’s structural keyword). MANDATORY: use this exact root at every occurrence so the letter’s deliberate ironic chain (kept believers / not-kept angels / judgment kept in reserve / believers commanded to keep themselves / God able to keep them from stumbling) survives translation. This is a process-discipline requirement, not merely a lexical preference.
Sexual Immorality
Approved rendering: بدکاری / حرام کاری
Transliteration: badkārī / ḥarām kārī
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Rejected alternatives: زنا
Original: ἐκπορνεύσασαι / πορνεία
Category: Sin
New for Jude (ἐκπορνεύσασαι/πορνεία, v.7). NEVER زنا — that word names the specific, fixed Islamic legal (hudud) category of unlawful intercourse with its own evidentiary/penal apparatus, foreign to Jude’s moral-theological point.
Strange Flesh
Approved rendering: غیر معمولی جسمانی تعلقات
Transliteration: g͟hair-mu’āmūlī jismānī ta’alluqāt
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Rejected alternatives: نفس-root euphemisms
Original: σαρκὸς ἑτέρας
Category: Sin
New for Jude (σαρκὸς ἑτέρας, v.7). σάρξ itself follows the fixed Galatians-package rendering جسم; handle this euphemism with sensitivity, never with نفس-root vocabulary.
Eternal Fire
Approved rendering: ابدی آگ
Transliteration: abadī āg
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: πυρὸς αἰωνίου
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (πυρὸς αἰωνίου, v.7). Imagery itself low-collision (shared hellfire doctrine); the real risk is flattening Jude’s typological, in-house warning to present-day false teachers into generic outsider-directed hell-teaching.
Michael The Archangel
Approved rendering: میکائیل فرشتہ
Transliteration: Mīkā’īl fereshtah
Doctrine: Michael and Angelic Authority
Original: Μιχαὴλ ὁ ἀρχάγγελος
Category: Angelology
New for Jude (v.9). Genuine bridge: Mīkā’īl is named in the Qur’an (2:98) alongside Jibril. The specific role here (disputing the devil over Moses’ body) derives from extrabiblical Jewish tradition (Testament/Assumption of Moses); treat as a recognizable proper noun only, never as a claim shared with or derived from Qur’anic Mīkā’īl material.
Wild Sea Waves
Approved rendering: سمندر کی وحشی موجیں، جو اپنی ہی رسوائی کا جھاگ اڑاتی ہیں
Transliteration: samundar kī waḥshī maujẽ, jo apnī hī rusvā’ī kā jhāg uṛātī haĩ
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
New for Jude (κύματα ἄγρια θαλάσσης ἐπαφρίζοντα τὰς ἑαυτῶν αἰσχύνας, v.13). Honor/shame dynamics carry particular social weight in South Asian Muslim contexts; رسوائی (public disgrace) is strong, socially loaded vocabulary. The metaphor’s target (the false teachers’ own self-exposed disgrace) must remain unmistakable, never read as commentary on any real community’s or reader’s honor-status.
Shame
Approved rendering: رسوائی
Transliteration: rusvā’ī
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: αἰσχύναι
Category: Sin
New for Jude (αἰσχύνη, v.13). See wild_sea_waves entry for the full honor/shame risk framing; flagged per this Language Package’s own instruction that honor/shame segments require native-speaker review at minimum, human theologian review given accumulated risk here.
Enoch
Approved rendering: حنوک
Transliteration: Ḥanūk
Doctrine: Canonicity and Prophetic Authority of the Enoch Citation
Original: Ἑνώχ, ἕβδομος ἀπὸ Ἀδάμ
Category: Eschatology
New for Jude (vv.14-15, quoting 1 Enoch 1:9 as prophecy). Two-part flag: (1) canon question — Jude affirms this specific statement’s truth without canonizing the whole Enoch corpus, requiring exegetical, not concealing, handling. (2) Comparative theology — Islamic tradition widely identifies Qur’anic Idrīs (19:56-57; 21:85) with Enoch on the shared ‘taken up without dying’ motif; present on Jude’s own terms per the baseline’s Abraham/Ibrahim precedent, neither conceding nor rebutting the identification in the base translated text.
Mercy
Approved rendering: رحمت
Transliteration: raḥmat
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Rejected alternatives: فضل (reserved for the baseline’s unmerited-grace-apart-from-works Critical term)
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation
New for Jude (ἔλεος, vv.2, 21, 22, 23), though built on established Islamic divine-attribute vocabulary (Allah as al-Raḥmān, al-Raḥīm). Correct rendering for ἔλεος specifically (distinct from فضل); every doctrinally-weighted occurrence must make clear this mercy is mediated through Christ’s own atoning work and leads with assurance to eternal life, unlike the Islamic framework in which raḥmah’s outcome is uncertain until a final weighing of deeds.
Guard From Stumbling
Approved rendering: لڑکھڑانے سے محفوظ رکھنا
Transliteration: laṛkhaṛāne se maḥfūz̤ rakhnā
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Original: φυλάξαι… ἀπταίστους
Category: Preservation
New for Jude (φυλάξαι… ἀπταίστους, v.24). Near-synonym of τηρέω; render with the SAME root (محفوظ رکھنا) established for that keyword throughout the letter so this functions as the letter’s climactic resolution of the ‘Kept by God’ theme.
Grace Inherited
Approved rendering: فضل
Transliteration: faz̤l
Doctrine: Grace Abused as License for Sin
Rejected alternatives: رحمت, احسان, کرم
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Jude 1:4 shows this exact word distorted into license by false teachers; the polemical force (an abuse and perversion of grace) must be unmistakable, never conceding the common charge that grace-without-a-deeds-framework naturally produces lawlessness.
Holy Inherited
Approved rendering: پاک
Transliteration: pāk
Doctrine: Prayer in the Holy Spirit and Building Up in the Faith
Rejected alternatives: طاہر
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Used of the ‘most holy faith’ (ἁγιωτάτῃ, v.20) and the Lord’s ‘holy myriads’ (ἁγίαις, v.14). Must avoid ritual-purity connotations (see baseline caution against طاہر).
Called Inherited
Approved rendering: بلایا گیا
Transliteration: bulāyā gayā
Doctrine: Perseverance, Assurance, and the Tension of Being Kept and Keeping Oneself
Rejected alternatives: دعوت دی گئی
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Describes the letter’s recipients in the salutation (Jude 1:1, κλητοῖς). Must convey a sovereign, effectual summons, never دعوت (the Islamic da’wah-adjacent invitation concept).
Eternal Life Inherited
Approved rendering: ابدی زندگی
Transliteration: abadī zindagī
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Jude 1:21: believers await the mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ ‘unto eternal life.’ Teach in continuity with نجات, not as a separate reward.
Glory Inherited
Approved rendering: جلال
Transliteration: jalāl
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Jude’s one unambiguous use of δόξα for God’s own glory (v.24-25); must be kept sharply distinct from v.8’s δόξαι (بزرگ ہستیاں, created celestial beings) within this same short letter.
Flesh Inherited
Approved rendering: جسم
Transliteration: jism
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Rejected alternatives: نفس (risks importing the Sufi nafs-discipline system)
Inherited from the Galatians extension of the baseline package; reuse exactly. σάρξ occurs in Jude at vv.7-8 (defiling the flesh, strange flesh) and v.23 (garment defiled by the flesh). Must not collapse into body-negation asceticism nor be substituted with نفس-root vocabulary.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle Inherited
Approved rendering: رسول
Transliteration: rasūl
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: نبی
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Jude 1:17: believers are to remember the words spoken beforehand by the apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ. Watch for the Quranic scripture-bearing-messenger paradigm culminating in Muhammad as ‘seal of the prophets’; Jude’s apostles are commissioned directly by the risen Christ, delivering no new Quranic-style revelation.
Crept In Unnoticed
Approved rendering: چوری چھپے گھس آنا
Transliteration: chorī chhupe ghus ānā
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: παρεισέδυσαν
Category: Church
New for Jude. Must convey covert insider infiltration (παρεισέδυσαν), not open outside opposition; shapes the doctrine of discernment within the community.
Dreamers
Approved rendering: خواب دیکھنے والے
Transliteration: k͟hwāb dekhne wāle
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: ἐνυπνιαζόμενοι
Category: Sin
New for Jude (ἐνυπνιαζόμενοι, v.8). A critique of these specific false teachers’ self-authorizing claims, not a blanket verdict on dreams as a category — Islamic tradition holds true dreams (ru’yā ṣādiqah) in real regard.
Defile The Flesh
Approved rendering: جسم کو ناپاک کرنا
Transliteration: jism ko nāpāk karnā
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: σάρκα μιαίνουσιν
Category: Sin
New for Jude (σάρκα μιαίνουσιν, v.8). Moral, not ritual, defilement — guard against a ritual-purity (wuḍūʾ/ghusl-adjacent) reading, per the baseline’s existing caution distinguishing پاک from طاہر.
Reject Authority
Approved rendering: اختیار کو رد کرنا
Transliteration: ik͟htiyār ko rad karnā
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: κυριότητα ἀθετοῦσιν
Category: Sin
New for Jude (κυριότητα ἀθετοῦσιν, v.8). κυριότης is a broader authority/dominion term; must not be confused with κύριος/خداوند, Christ’s own specific title, fixed and reserved throughout this Language Package.
Woe
Approved rendering: افسوس / وائے ہو
Transliteration: afsōs / wā’e ho
Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers
Original: οὐαὶ αὐτοῖς
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (οὐαὶ αὐτοῖς, v.11). Formal prophetic judgment-pronouncement register, not casual regret or lament.
Corrupted
Approved rendering: تباہ ہونا
Transliteration: tabāh honā
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: φθείρονται
Category: Sin
New for Jude (φθείρονται, v.10). Keep consistent with the judgment-vocabulary family (عدالت) without conflating this distinct Greek verb with κρίσις itself.
Lusts Desires
Approved rendering: خواہشات
Transliteration: k͟hwāhishāt
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Rejected alternatives: نفسانی (as primary/default rendering)
Original: ἐπιθυμίαι
Category: Sin
New for Jude (ἐπιθυμίαι, vv.16, 18). Avoid نفسانی as default; never substitute نفس-root vocabulary for جسم/σάρξ itself, per the standing Galatians-package caution against importing the Sufi nafs-discipline system.
Mockers Scoffers
Approved rendering: ٹھٹھا کرنے والے
Transliteration: ṭhaṭṭhā karne wāle
Doctrine: Apostolic Warning and Remembrance
Original: ἐμπαῖκται
Category: Eschatology
New for Jude (ἐμπαῖκται, v.18). Standard ‘last days’ eschatological vocabulary; both traditions affirm a coming last-time pattern of mockers.
Eternal Chains Darkness
Approved rendering: ابدی زنجیریں، گہری تاریکی
Transliteration: abadī zanjīrẽ, gahrī tārīkī
Doctrine: Angelic Rebellion and Judgment
Original: δεσμοῖς ἀιδίοις ὑπὸ ζόφον
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (δεσμοῖς ἀιδίοις ὑπὸ ζόφον, v.6). Standard judgment/hellfire-adjacent imagery, low collision on its own; the higher risk sits at the ‘angels’ entry, not here.
Sodom And Gomorrah
Approved rendering: سدوم اور عمورہ
Transliteration: Sadūm aur ‘Amūrah
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: Σόδομα καὶ Γόμορρα
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (v.7). Genuine bridge: the Qur’an also narrates the destruction of Lot’s people for sexual immorality (7:80-84; 11:77-83; 26:160-175). Do not import Quranic narrative specifics or imply full equivalence with Jude’s own ‘eternal fire’ typology.
The Devil
Approved rendering: شیطان
Transliteration: shaiṭān
Doctrine: Michael and Angelic Authority
Rejected alternatives: ابلیس
Original: διάβολος
Category: Angelology
New for Jude (διάβολος, v.9). شیطان preferred over ابلیس to avoid forcing an angel-vs-jinn species-classification claim the Urdu text need not make.
Cain Balaam Korah
Approved rendering: قائن، بلعام، قورح
Transliteration: Qā’in, Bal’ām, Qūraḥ
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: Κάϊν, Βαλαάμ, Κόρε
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (v.11). Shared narrative figures across traditions (Cain especially, cf. the Qur’anic Qābīl tradition, unnamed in the Qur’an itself); no direct doctrinal contradiction, genuinely useful shared reference point.
Error Misguidance
Approved rendering: گمراہی
Transliteration: gumrāhī
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: πλάνη
Category: Sin
New for Jude (πλάνη, vv.11, 13). Genuinely shared, positively resonant Islamic-Urdu concept (the hidāyat/gumrāhī, guidance/misguidance, polarity); low collision, keep the metaphor consistent across both occurrences.
Hidden Reefs Spots
Approved rendering: چھپی چٹانیں / داغ
Transliteration: chhupī chaṭānẽ / dāg͟h
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
New for Jude (σπιλάδες, v.12). Genuine textual ambiguity (hidden reefs vs. blemishes tradition, cf. 2 Peter 2:13’s σπίλοι); translator must confirm which English base-text sense is followed and render consistently.
Love Feasts
Approved rendering: محبت کی ضیافتیں
Transliteration: maḥabbat kī żiyāfatẽ
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: ἀγάπαι
Category: Church
New for Jude (ἀγάπαι, v.12). No close Islamic-cultural parallel for this specific early-church practice; a brief explanatory note (the early church’s shared communal meal) serves comprehension better than doctrinal caution.
Self Serving Shepherds
Approved rendering: بےخوف ہو کر اپنی ہی پرورش کرتے ہیں
Transliteration: be-k͟hauf ho kar apnī hī parwarish karte haĩ
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
New for Jude (ἀφόβως ἑαυτοὺς ποιμαίνοντες, v.12). Pastoral-metaphor indictment of self-serving leadership; keep the flock/shepherd sense visible if possible.
Wandering Stars
Approved rendering: آوارہ ستارے
Transliteration: āvārah sitāre
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: ἀστέρες πλανῆται
Category: Eschatology
New for Jude (ἀστέρες πλανῆται, v.13). Continues the گمراہی/wandering-error metaphor family established at v.11.
Prophesied
Approved rendering: نبوت کی / پیشن گوئی کی
Transliteration: nabuwwat kī / peshan go’ī kī
Doctrine: Canonicity and Prophetic Authority of the Enoch Citation
Original: προεφήτευσεν
Category: Eschatology
New for Jude (προεφήτευσεν, v.14). Verb form of established baseline نبی/پیشن گوئی family; tied directly to the canon-status question at the ‘enoch’ entry.
Holy Myriads Of The Lord
Approved rendering: خداوند اپنے ہزاروں ہزار مقدسین کے ساتھ آتا ہے
Transliteration: k͟hudāvand apne hazārõ hazār muqaddasīn ke sāth ātā hai
Doctrine: Canonicity and Prophetic Authority of the Enoch Citation
New for Jude (ἦλθεν κύριος ἐν ἁγίαις μυριάσιν αὐτοῦ, v.14). The ambiguity between ‘holy angels’ and ‘holy people/saints’ should be preserved as genuinely ambiguous, not artificially resolved, since the Greek itself does not disambiguate.
Snatch Out Of Fire
Approved rendering: کھینچ کر بچانا
Transliteration: khīñch kar bachānā
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: ἁρπάζοντες
Category: Salvation
New for Jude (ἁρπάζοντες, v.23). Urgent, forceful rescue image; keep vivid — this vividness is doctrinally important to the rescue half of the mercy-and-rescue doctrine.
Fear With Mercy
Approved rendering: خوف
Transliteration: k͟hauf
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: ἐν φόβῳ
Category: Sanctification
New for Jude (ἐν φόβῳ, v.23). Must read as sober caution against sin’s contamination, not fear of the person needing mercy, which would undercut the verse’s pastoral intent.
Stained Garment
Approved rendering: آلودہ پیراہن
Transliteration: ālūdah pairāhan
Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering
Original: τὸν ἀπὸ τῆς σαρκὸς ἐσπιλωμένον χιτῶνα
Category: Sin
New for Jude (τὸν ἀπὸ τῆς σαρκὸς ἐσπιλωμένον χιτῶνα, v.23). Vivid contamination image with no direct Islamic ritual-purity parallel needing correction; confirm ناپاکی is read as moral, not ritual/wuḍūʾ-related, defilement.
Majesty
Approved rendering: عظمت
Transliteration: ‘az̤amat
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: μεγαλωσύνη
Category: God
New for Jude (μεγαλωσύνη, v.25). Shared divine-attribute vocabulary (al-‘Aẕamah); low risk in isolation — the doctrinal weight in this doxology lies entirely in its Christological mediation structure, not in this individual attribute-word.
Dominion Might
Approved rendering: قوت / اقتدار
Transliteration: qūvat / iqtidār
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: κράτος
Category: God
New for Jude (κράτος, v.25). Overlaps with Islamic divine-attribute vocabulary (al-Qudrah-adjacent); low risk in isolation. Assign and hold this fixed rendering consistently, distinct from ἐξουσία, so the doxology’s fourfold enumeration is not collapsed into near-synonymous repetition.
Power Authority
Approved rendering: اختیار
Transliteration: ik͟htiyār
Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power
Original: ἐξουσία
Category: God
New for Jude (ἐξουσία, v.25). Distinguish from κράτος’s قوت/اقتدار and from κυριότητα (v.8’s اختیار کو رد کرنا context uses the same base word — ensure surrounding context disambiguates the referent in each case).
Servant Bondservant
Approved rendering: غلام
Transliteration: g͟hulām
Doctrine: Apostolic Warning and Remembrance
Rejected alternatives: خادم (understates total-ownership sense)
Original: δοῦλος
Category: Church
New for Jude (δοῦλος, v.1). Shared with the Islamic devotional self-designation ‘abd (‘slave/servant of God’); broadly safe and even resonant, but must be anchored explicitly to Jesus Christ as the one owned-and-served, not left generic.
James Brother Of Jude
Approved rendering: یعقوب
Transliteration: Ya’qūb
Doctrine: Apostolic Warning and Remembrance
Original: Ἰάκωβος
Category: Church
New for Jude (v.1). یعقوب is also the standard Urdu rendering of the patriarch Jacob (and the Qur’an’s Ya’qūb); context must always disambiguate — this refers to James, the Lord’s brother, e.g. یسوع مسیح کے بھائی یعقوب کا بھائی.
Israel Inherited
Approved rendering: اسرائیل
Transliteration: isrā’īl
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. ‘The people’ (λαόν) in Jude 1:5 implicitly means Israel though not named directly in the Greek clause; supply the referent explicitly in explanatory material.
Peace Inherited
Approved rendering: صلح
Transliteration: ṣulḥ
Doctrine: Perseverance, Assurance, and the Tension of Being Kept and Keeping Oneself
Rejected alternatives: سلامتی
Inherited from Romans/Galatians baseline package; reuse exactly. Jude 1:2’s salutation (‘mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you’) uses this in its general greeting-blessing sense; baseline term reused for glossary consistency.
Low Risk Terms
Grumblers Complainers
Approved rendering: بڑبڑانے والے، شکایتی لوگ
Transliteration: baṛbaṛāne wāle, shikāyatī log
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
Original: γογγυσταί, μεμψίμοιροι
Category: Sin
New for Jude (γογγυσταί, μεμψίμοιροι, v.16). Echoes OT wilderness-generation grumbling motif; low doctrinal risk.
Example Warning Lesson
Approved rendering: عبرت
Transliteration: ‘ibrat
Doctrine: Old Testament Warnings as Types (Israel, Angels, Sodom)
Original: δεῖγμα
Category: Judgment
New for Jude (δεῖγμα, v.7). Genuine positive bridge: frequent Qur’anic didactic vocabulary for the destroyed-peoples-as-lesson function (e.g. Qur’an 12:111); flagged for positive pastoral use, though Jude’s specific in-house application (warning to false teachers within the church) remains its own distinct point.
Moses Body
Approved rendering: موسیٰ کا جسم
Transliteration: Mūsā kā jism
Doctrine: Michael and Angelic Authority
New for Jude (v.9). موسیٰ is the established Urdu transliteration per the 12_ai instruction; جسم here is literal physical remains, distinguished from the theological σάρξ usage elsewhere.
Rebuke The Lord
Approved rendering: خداوند تجھے جھڑکے
Transliteration: k͟hudāvand tujhe jhaṛke
Doctrine: Michael and Angelic Authority
New for Jude (ἐπιτιμήσαι σοι κύριος, v.9). Reuses خداوند (baseline TM) exactly.
Unreasoning Animals
Approved rendering: بے عقل جانوروں کی طرح
Transliteration: be-‘aql jānwarõ kī ṭaraḥ
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
New for Jude (ὡς τὰ ἄλογα ζῷα, v.10). Standard, low-risk simile.
Barren Nature Metaphors
Approved rendering: بے آب بدلیاں، بے پھل خزانی درخت، دو بار مرے ہوئے، جڑ سے اکھڑے ہوئے
Transliteration: be-āb badliyā̃, be-phal k͟hizānī dara͟kht, do bār mare hu’e, jaṛ se ukhṛe hu’e
Doctrine: False Teachers’ Conduct and Character
New for Jude (v.12). Nature-metaphor chain for false promise and spiritual barrenness; ἄκαρπα (‘fruitless’) deliberately anticipates the Galatians baseline’s روح کا پھل (‘fruit of the Spirit’) as its photographic negative — preserve this echo for readers moving between curricula.
Last Time
Approved rendering: آخری زمانے میں
Transliteration: āk͟hirī zamāne mẽ
Doctrine: Apostolic Warning and Remembrance
New for Jude (ἐπ᾽ ἐσχάτου τοῦ χρόνου, v.18). Standard eschatological vocabulary; both traditions affirm a general ‘last days’ concept, low collision.
Remind Remembrance
Approved rendering: یاد دلانا
Transliteration: yād dilānā
Doctrine: Apostolic Warning and Remembrance
New for Jude (ὑπομνῆσαι, v.5). Standard, low-risk verb.
Great Joy
Approved rendering: بڑی خوشی
Transliteration: baṛī k͟hushī
Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless
Original: ἐν ἀγαλλιάσει
