Righteousness

CRITICAL: al-birr appears in the Quran (2:177) as a checklist of pious deeds - charity, prayer, honesty - i.e. righteousness achieved through works. Romans 1:17’s ‘righteousness of God’ revealed apart from works must never collapse into this works-checklist sense.
