Semantic Analysis
Semantic Analysis: 2 Timothy (Full Book) — Kurdish (Kurmanji)
Method and Scope
This analysis covers 2 Timothy chapter 1 through chapter 4 in the original Koine Greek. The core passage, 2 Timothy 3:14–4:5, receives verse-by-verse treatment of every load-bearing term. Every other section of the book (1:1–3:13 and 4:6–22) receives chapter-level treatment of its load-bearing theological vocabulary, using the same seven fields: original word, transliteration, literal meaning, semantic range, English variants, contextual theological meaning, and destination-language (Kurdish) rendering risk, plus the proposed Kurdish rendering itself.
Baseline reuse rule enforced throughout: any term already recorded in the Romans translation_memory.json is reused exactly as recorded (e.g., Mizgînî, Kerem, Îman, Adalet, Rizgarî, Şandî, Bangkirî, Pîroz, Rabûn, Xudan, Aştî, Rûmet, Hilbijartin, Hêza Xwedê, Dûndana Dawid, Xwedê, Ruhê Pîroz, Bav, Handan kirin, Ne-cihû, Padîşahiya Xwedê, Guneh, Mesîh, Îsa, Dawid). New terms required for 2 Timothy’s distinctive vocabulary (Scripture, inspiration, sound doctrine, the deposit, the crown, itching ears, etc.) are proposed here for the first time and must be added to translation memory in Phase 2.
PART A — CORE PASSAGE: 2 Timothy 3:14–4:5 (Verse by Verse)
2 Timothy 3:14
Greek: Σὺ δὲ μένε ἐν οἷς ἔμαθες καὶ ἐπιστώθης, εἰδὼς παρὰ τίνων ἔμαθες, English: “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it,“
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| μένε (μένω) | menō | ”remain, stay, abide” | to continue in a place, state, or teaching; loyalty/perseverance sense | remain, continue, abide, hold to | Timothy is charged to persevere in apostolic teaching received, not drift toward the false teachers of 3:1-13 | Bimîne (di wê de) — “remain/continue in it” | Medium — must be distinguished from mere passive habit; this is active perseverance in received doctrine, tying to “Guarding Sound Doctrine” |
| ἐπιστώθης (πιστόω) | epistōthēs | ”you were made firm/assured, convinced” | to be confirmed, given confidence, made trustworthy/faithful | were assured, were convinced, firmly believed | Shares the πιστ- root with πίστις (faith); Timothy’s certainty rests on trusted transmission, not private certainty alone | Baweriya te bi wan hat xurtkirin — “your confidence/trust in them was strengthened” | High — root-shares baseline “faith” (Îman); must not collapse into mere creedal certainty divorced from a trusted human chain of transmission (Lois, Eunice, Paul) |
2 Timothy 3:15
English: “and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἱερὰ γράμματα | hiera grammata | ”sacred letters/writings” | the OT scriptures known from Jewish upbringing; γράμμα = written character/letter | sacred writings, holy scriptures, holy writings | Timothy’s OT upbringing (through Lois and Eunice) is the seedbed for recognizing Christ; distinct term from γραφή in v.16 | Nivîsarên Pîroz — “the Sacred Writings” | High — must be anchored as the OT text that finds its fulfillment in Christ, not treated as a separate/parallel scripture unrelated to the NT; also touches “tahrif” assumptions regionally applied to prior scriptures (cf. baseline gospel/inspiration notes) |
| σοφίσαι (σοφίζω) | sophisai | ”to make wise” | to instruct, render wise/skilled | make wise, instruct unto wisdom | Scripture’s purpose is not abstract wisdom but wisdom that leads to salvation | Şehrezakirin (ji bo rizgariyê şehrezakirin) — “to make wise/skilled unto salvation” | Medium |
| σωτηρίαν (σωτηρία) | sōtēria | see baseline | see baseline | salvation, deliverance | The goal of Scripture’s wisdom: personal salvation through faith in Christ | Rizgarî (baseline term, reused exactly) | Critical — reuse baseline anchoring requirement: must be tied explicitly to “through faith in Christ Jesus,” not read as Kurdish national liberation |
| πίστεως τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ | pisteōs tēs en Christō Iēsou | ”faith, the one in Christ Jesus” | trust/reliance with Christ as explicit object | faith in Christ Jesus | The object of saving faith is made explicit — not generic religious belief | Îman (baseline term, reused exactly) + “di Îsa Mesîh de” (in Christ Jesus) | High — object of faith must always be stated, per baseline note on Îman |
2 Timothy 3:16
Greek: πᾶσα γραφὴ θεόπνευστος καὶ ὠφέλιμος πρὸς διδασκαλίαν, πρὸς ἐλεγμόν, πρὸς ἐπανόρθωσιν, πρὸς παιδείαν τὴν ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ, English: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness,“
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| πᾶσα γραφὴ | pasa graphē | ”all writing/every scripture” | the entire body of sacred Scripture, collectively or distributively | all Scripture, every Scripture, the whole of Scripture | The doctrinal anchor for the doctrine “Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture” | Nivîsara Pîroz (bi tevahî) — “the (whole) Holy Scripture” | Critical — new term; must denote a bounded, complete, closed body of God-given writing, not an open-ended or evolving revelation as in some regional expectations of continuing/superseding revelation |
| θεόπνευστος | theopneustos | ”God-breathed” (θεός + πνέω, “to breathe”) | inspired by, originating from the breath/Spirit of God | God-breathed, inspired by God, given by inspiration of God | Scripture’s ultimate origin is God’s own breath, not human invention, yet articulated through human authors’ own voice | Xwedê-nefesandî (“God-breathed,” native calque coined for this package) | CRITICAL — Islamic wahy doctrine (already flagged in baseline inspiration_of_scripture) holds verbatim divine dictation transmitted through Gabriel; the biblical model is God moving human authors to write in their own genuine voice and style. The native calque “Xwedê-nefesandî” is deliberately chosen over an “îlham”-based rendering (îlham risks conflation with Sufi/Qur’anic inspiration categories) to preserve the specific breath-metaphor without importing the verbatim-dictation assumption. Requires explicit teaching at every occurrence. |
| ὠφέλιμος | ōphelimos | ”useful, beneficial, profitable” | practical benefit/advantage | profitable, useful, beneficial | Scripture’s inspiration issues in practical usefulness for the believer’s life | Sûdmend — “beneficial/useful” | Low |
| διδασκαλίαν (διδασκαλία) | didaskalian | ”teaching” | instruction, doctrine, body of teaching | teaching, doctrine, instruction | One of four purposes of Scripture: positive instruction | Hîndarî — “teaching/doctrine” | Medium — root term for “Hîndariya Saxlem” (sound doctrine); must not be read as narrow catechetical rote-learning alone |
| ἐλεγμόν (ἐλεγμός) | elegmon | ”reproof, conviction of fault” | exposing/convicting of error or sin | reproof, conviction, rebuke | Scripture exposes wrong belief/conduct | Sûcdarkirin — “convicting of fault” | Medium |
| ἐπανόρθωσιν (ἐπανόρθωσις) | epanorthōsin | ”restoration, correction, setting straight again” | correcting course after fault is exposed | correction, restoration, amendment | Scripture actively restores right belief/conduct after correction | Rastkirin — “correction/setting-right” | Low-Medium |
| παιδείαν (παιδεία) | paideian | ”training, discipline, upbringing” | child-rearing/formative discipline, moral-educational formation | training, instruction, discipline | Scripture forms character over time, like a disciplined upbringing | Perwerde — “training/formation” | Low-Medium |
| δικαιοσύνῃ (δικαιοσύνη) | dikaiosynē | see baseline | see baseline | righteousness | Here in its ethical/formational sense (godly conduct), not the forensic-justification sense | Adalet (baseline term, reused exactly) | High — reuse baseline caution; in this verse the sense is sanctification-oriented conduct, not forensic imputation; translator note should clarify this distinct nuance from imputed_righteousness |
2 Timothy 3:17
Greek: ἵνα ἄρτιος ᾖ ὁ τοῦ θεοῦ ἄνθρωπος, πρὸς πᾶν ἔργον ἀγαθὸν ἐξηρτισμένος. English: “that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἄρτιος | artios | ”complete, fit, proficient, lacking nothing” | wholeness, fitness for a task | complete, proficient, thoroughly equipped, mature | Scripture alone is sufficient to make God’s servant fully fit for ministry — the doctrinal core of “Sufficiency of Scripture” | Bêkêmasî — “complete/lacking nothing” | High — sufficiency claim risks collision with regional naskh (abrogation) assumption that later revelation supersedes/completes earlier revelation (already flagged in baseline fulfillment_of_prophecy); must be taught as Scripture’s own self-sufficiency, closed and complete, not awaiting a further corrective revelation |
| ὁ τοῦ θεοῦ ἄνθρωπος | ho tou theou anthrōpos | ”the man of God” | a person wholly devoted to and equipped by God, often used of OT prophets/leaders | man of God, God’s servant, person of God | Timothy (and by extension every minister) is the intended beneficiary of Scripture’s complete equipping | Mirovê Xwedê — “the man/person of God” | Medium |
| ἐξηρτισμένος (ἐξαρτίζω) | exērtismenos | ”equipped, furnished completely, outfitted” | fully outfitted for a task, as a ship is outfitted | equipped, furnished, thoroughly furnished | Reinforces ἄρτιος: complete outfitting for every good work, not merely partial preparation | Bi temamî hatiye amadekirin — “has been fully prepared/equipped” | Medium |
| ἔργον ἀγαθὸν | ergon agathon | ”good work” | deeds/actions that are morally good, God-honoring | good work, good deed | The purpose of Scripture’s equipping: active ministry and godly living, not knowledge for its own sake | Karê baş — “good work” | Low |
2 Timothy 4:1
Greek: Διαμαρτύρομαι ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ, τοῦ μέλλοντος κρίνειν ζῶντας καὶ νεκρούς, καὶ τὴν ἐπιφάνειαν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ· English: “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:“
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Διαμαρτύρομαι (διαμαρτύρομαι) | diamartyromai | ”I solemnly charge/testify” | to give solemn testimony/charge under witness | I charge, I solemnly declare, I testify | This is the most solemn form of apostolic charge in the epistle, invoking God and Christ as witnesses | Ez di ber Xwedê û Îsa Mesîh de sond dixwim/dispêrim — “I solemnly charge/entrust before God and Christ Jesus” | Medium-High — must retain the weight of a legal/covenantal oath-charge, not soften to casual advice |
| κρίνειν (κρίνω) | krinein | ”to judge” | to pass judgment, decide, discern rightly | judge, pass judgment | Christ Jesus himself will judge the living and the dead — an act of divine prerogative | Dadgerî kirin — “to judge” (from dadger, native Kurdish compound: dad = justice/law + ger = doer/agent) | Critical — attributing the divine prerogative of universal judgment of “the living and the dead” to Christ Jesus directly asserts his deity; must be taught alongside the already-Critical baseline doctrine deity_of_christ, never softened to “will evaluate” |
| ζῶντας καὶ νεκρούς | zōntas kai nekrous | ”the living and the dead” | all humanity across time, living and departed | the living and the dead | Comprehensive scope of final judgment | Saxan û miriyan — “the living and the dead” | Low |
| ἐπιφάνειαν (ἐπιφάνεια) | epiphaneian | ”appearing, manifestation” | a visible, decisive appearing/manifestation of a deity or ruler | appearing, coming, manifestation | Used elsewhere in the Pastorals of both Christ’s first coming (1:10) and his future return (4:1, 4:8); here, the Second Coming | Xuyabûn (“Appearing” — new native term, from xuya bûn, “to become visible”) | Critical — new term with the same collision profile as baseline incarnation/son_of_god: Yazidi theology’s belief in successive divine manifestations through holy human figures, and Sufi “wahdat al-wujud,” both create risk that Christ’s appearing(s) are assimilated as one instance of a recurring pattern rather than his unique incarnation (past) and unrepeatable, decisive return (future). Each occurrence must specify which appearing (first/second) and stress uniqueness and non-repeatability. |
| βασιλείαν (βασιλεία) | basileian | see baseline | see baseline | kingdom | Christ’s kingdom, here linked to his return in judgment | Padîşahiya Xwedê-root, rendered here as “Padîşahiya wî” (“his kingdom”) reusing baseline term exactly | Critical — reuse baseline anchoring requirement: must not be heard as endorsing Kurdish political statehood aspirations; this is Christ’s eschatological, heavenly reign |
2 Timothy 4:2
English: “preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with complete patience and teaching.”
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| κήρυξον (κηρύσσω) | kēryxon | ”proclaim as a herald, announce publicly with authority” | authoritative, official public proclamation | preach, proclaim, herald | The doctrinal core of “The Charge to Preach the Word” — a public, authoritative act, not private opinion-sharing | Ragihîne (imperative of ragihandin, “to cause to reach/announce” — reuses the root already embedded in baseline doctrine name Ragihandina Mizgîniyê) | High — must retain the sense of authoritative herald-proclamation; safety implications of public gospel proclamation vary sharply across Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria (per baseline mission_to_nations/evangelism notes), so ministry material using this term needs country-aware framing |
| τὸν λόγον | ton logon | ”the word” | here, the apostolic gospel message/Scripture just described in 3:14-17 | the word, the message, the word of God | The specific content to be preached is the inspired, sufficient Scripture of the preceding verses, not a general message | Peyva Xwedê — “the Word of God” | Medium-High — must not be confused with the Johannine Logos-Christology title (a distinct concept); here it denotes the apostolic gospel content/Scripture |
| εὐκαίρως ἀκαίρως | eukairōs akairōs | ”in season, out of season” (lit. “well-timed, ill-timed”) | at convenient and inconvenient times alike | in season and out of season, whether convenient or not | Idiom conveying constancy regardless of circumstance or receptivity | Gelo dem li dar be an nebe — “whether the time is fitting or not” (idiomatic rendering, not literal) | Low — idiom handling; translate sense, not literal words |
| ἔλεγξον (ἐλέγχω) | elenxon | ”reprove, convict, expose fault” | to expose wrongdoing so as to bring conviction | reprove, convict, correct | Corrective ministry function | Sûcdar bike — “convict/expose fault” | Medium |
| ἐπιτίμησον (ἐπιτιμάω) | epitimēson | ”rebuke sharply” | stronger corrective/warning speech | rebuke, warn sternly | Corrective ministry function, stronger than ἔλεγξον | Tewbîh bike — “rebuke” | Medium |
| παρακάλεσον (παρακαλέω) | parakaleson | see baseline exhort | see baseline | exhort, encourage, urge, comfort | Constructive, encouraging ministry function alongside correction | Handan kirin (baseline term, reused exactly) | Low — reuse baseline; context here favors the “encourage/build up” sense per baseline note |
| μακροθυμίᾳ (μακροθυμία) | makrothymia | ”patience, longsuffering, slowness to anger toward people” | forbearance in dealing with others over time | patience, longsuffering, forbearance | The manner in which all correction/exhortation must be carried out | Sebir — “patience” | Medium — asset-with-anchor: Islamic sabr is a major, positively-regarded virtue category regionally; this overlap is a genuine asset but must be anchored specifically to patient gospel ministry toward others, not generalized to stoic endurance of fate |
| διδαχῇ (διδαχή) | didachē | ”teaching” | the act or content of teaching | teaching, instruction | Teaching accompanies all correction; ministry is fundamentally didactic | Hîndarî — “teaching” (reuse of root established in 3:16) | Low |
2 Timothy 4:3
Greek: ἔσται γὰρ καιρὸς ὅτε τῆς ὑγιαινούσης διδασκαλίας οὐκ ἀνέξονται, ἀλλὰ κατὰ τὰς ἰδίας ἐπιθυμίας ἑαυτοῖς ἐπισωρεύσουσιν διδασκάλους κνηθόμενοι τὴν ἀκοήν, English: “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,“
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ὑγιαινούσης διδασκαλίας | hygiainousēs didaskalias | ”healthy/sound teaching” (ὑγιαίνω, “to be healthy,” as of the body) | doctrine that is spiritually healthy, life-giving, uncorrupted | sound doctrine, sound teaching, healthy teaching | The doctrinal core of “Guarding Sound Doctrine” — teaching that produces spiritual health, as opposed to corrupted teaching that produces spiritual disease | Hîndariya Saxlem (“healthy/sound doctrine” — saxlem, native Kurdish word for physical health/soundness, metaphorically extended) | High — the “healthy body” metaphor is a genuine asset (intelligible, vivid), but risks being flattened into a rigid, fixed creedal-propositional checklist resembling regional Sunni ‘aqīda (creed) formulations; must be taught as living, gospel-rooted teaching that produces spiritual vitality, not merely correct recitation |
| ἀνέξονται (ἀνέχομαι) | anexontai | ”will endure, tolerate, put up with” | bearing with something, tolerating | endure, put up with, tolerate | People will actively refuse to tolerate sound teaching | Ranegirin / ne ewê pejirandin — “will not endure/accept” | Low |
| ἐπιθυμίας (ἐπιθυμία) | epithymias | ”desires, passions, lusts” | strong wants, often but not always negative | desires, passions, lusts | People will seek teachers who match their own desires rather than the truth | Hewes — “desires/passions” | Medium |
| ἐπισωρεύσουσιν (ἐπισωρεύω) | episōreusousin | ”will heap up, accumulate” | piling up in large quantity | accumulate, heap up, gather in multitude | Vivid image of collecting many false teachers to satisfy appetite | Wê top bikin — “will heap up/accumulate” | Low |
| κνηθόμενοι τὴν ἀκοήν | knēthomenoi tēn akoēn | ”having itching/tickled hearing” (idiom) | a craving to hear novel, flattering, or entertaining things rather than truth | itching ears | Idiom for an appetite for novelty and flattery over sound truth | Guhên ku her tiştî dixwazin bibihîzin (lit. “ears that want to hear anything”) | Low-Medium — idiom handling: render sense, not literal “itching,” though the itch-image is cross-culturally intelligible and may be retained with a brief gloss if preferred |
2 Timothy 4:4
Greek: καὶ ἀπὸ μὲν τῆς ἀληθείας τὴν ἀκοὴν ἀποστρέψουσιν, ἐπὶ δὲ τοὺς μύθους ἐκτραπήσονται. English: “and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἀληθείας (ἀλήθεια) | alētheias | ”truth” | that which is real, reliable, corresponding to reality; also a divine attribute | truth, the truth | The gospel/apostolic teaching as objective truth, rejected by apostates | Rastî — “truth” | Medium — potential overlap with the Islamic divine name al-Ḥaqq (“The Truth”); low collision risk but should be anchored to the specific apostolic gospel content, not generic philosophical or religious “truth” |
| ἀποστρέψουσιν (ἀποστρέφω) | apostrepsousin | ”will turn away from” | to turn one’s back on, reject | turn away, turn aside, reject | Deliberate rejection of truth, part of the “Apostasy” doctrine | Wê rû li aliyekî din bizivirînin — “will turn their face away” | Medium |
| μύθους (μῦθος) | mythous | ”myths, fables, invented tales” | fictional or legendary narratives, here used pejoratively of false teaching | myths, fables, tales | False teaching contrasted with revealed truth | Efsane — “myth/legend” | Medium — Kurdish oral tradition (dengbêj bardic storytelling, classical epics such as Ehmedê Xanî’s Mem û Zîn) holds legendary/epic narrative in high cultural esteem; care is needed so this verse’s negative doctrinal sense (false teaching to be rejected) is not heard as a blanket judgment on Kurdish storytelling tradition generally — the referent is specifically theological fabrication presented as truth |
| ἐκτραπήσονται (ἐκτρέπω) | ektrapēsontai | ”will be turned aside, will wander off” | deviation from a right path | wander off, turn aside, be diverted | Departure from the true path into deception, the endpoint of apostasy | Wê ji rêya rast derkevin — “will depart from the right way” | Medium-High — ties directly to “Apostasy and False Teachers” doctrine; must convey deliberate departure, not innocent confusion |
2 Timothy 4:5
Greek: σὺ δὲ νῆφε ἐν πᾶσιν, κακοπάθησον, ἔργον ποίησον εὐαγγελιστοῦ, τὴν διακονίαν σου πληροφόρησον. English: “As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| νῆφε (νήφω) | nēphe | ”be sober, watchful, clear-headed” | freedom from intoxication/confusion, spiritual alertness | be sober-minded, be watchful, be clear-headed | Constant spiritual alertness required especially in an age of deception (4:3-4) | Hişyar be — “be alert/watchful” | Low |
| κακοπάθησον (κακοπαθέω) | kakopathēson | ”suffer hardship, endure affliction” | to bear hardship, suffering, or mistreatment | endure suffering, suffer hardship, endure hardship | The doctrinal core of “Perseverance under Suffering” — enduring hardship for the sake of gospel ministry | Zehmetî bikişîne — “endure/bear hardship” | High — must be anchored specifically to suffering borne for the gospel’s sake (cf. 1:8, 2:3, 2:9), not generalized fatalistic suffering-as-trial (a concept with a well-developed regional Islamic framework of bela/trial requiring sabr); the material must also reckon honestly with the real, differing persecution risk Kurdish believers face across Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria |
| ἔργον…εὐαγγελιστοῦ | ergon euangelistou | ”the work of an evangelist” | the specific ministry function of gospel proclamation | work of an evangelist, evangelistic work | Reuses the εὐαγγελ- root of “gospel” (Mizgînî); a distinct ministry office/function | Karê mizgînvanekî — “the work of a gospel-bringer” (built on Mizgînî, baseline term, reused exactly as the root) | Medium — new agent-noun “mizgînvan” (gospel-bringer/evangelist) should be used consistently across the curriculum for this ministry role |
| διακονίαν (διακονία) | diakonian | ”service, ministry” | active service on behalf of others, often church ministry | ministry, service | Timothy’s overall pastoral office/task | Xizmet — “service/ministry” | Low |
| πληροφόρησον (πληροφορέω) | plērophorēson | ”fulfill completely, carry out fully” | bring to full completion, discharge fully | fulfill, fully carry out, discharge fully | A call to complete faithfulness in ministry to the very end, echoed in 4:7’s “I have finished the race” | Bi temamî bicih bîne — “fully carry out/fulfill” | Low-Medium |
PART B — CHAPTER-BY-CHAPTER STUDY OF THE WHOLE BOOK
Chapter 1 (2 Timothy 1:1–18)
Opening salutation, thanksgiving, and charge to Timothy to guard the deposit of sound teaching despite suffering.
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἔλεος (ἔλεος) | eleos | ”mercy, compassion” | pity/compassion shown toward the needy or suffering | mercy | Added to “grace and peace” (1:2) — distinctive of the Pastoral Epistles’ salutation formula, compared to Romans’ “grace and peace” alone | Dilovanî — “mercy/compassion” (new term) | Medium — positive overlap asset with Islamic rahma (the divine attribute invoked in Bismillah al-Raḥmān al-Raḥīm); genuine bridge-point, but must remain tied to God’s mercy shown specifically in Christ |
| χάρισμα (χάρισμα) | charisma | ”gift” | a Spirit-given endowment for ministry | gift, spiritual gift | ”Fan into flame the gift of God that is in you” (1:6); relates to baseline spiritual_gifts | Diyariya Xwedê — “the gift of God” (built on baseline Diyariyên Giyanî root) | Medium — reuse baseline caution: must retain “giyanî” (spiritual) sense so not read as natural talent |
| ἀναζωπυρεῖν (ἀναζωπυρέω) | anazōpyrein | ”to rekindle, fan into flame” | reviving a dying fire | fan into flame, rekindle, stir up | Vivid image for reviving Timothy’s God-given ministry gift amid discouragement | Ji nû ve pêxistin — “to rekindle” | Low |
| πνεῦμα δειλίας | pneuma deilias | ”spirit of cowardice/fear” | a disposition of timidity, not the Holy Spirit | spirit of fear, spirit of timidity | Contrasted with the “Spirit of power and love and self-control” in the same verse | Ruhê tirsonekiyê — “spirit of cowardice” | Medium — must be clearly distinguished from Ruhê Pîroz (Holy Spirit, baseline term); this is a disposition, not the divine Person |
| σωφρονισμοῦ (σωφρονισμός) | sōphronismou | ”sound-mindedness, self-discipline” | prudent self-control | self-control, sound mind, discipline | One of the three marks (power, love, self-control) of the Spirit given to Timothy | Hişmendî — “sound-mindedness/self-discipline” | Low-Medium |
| ἐπαισχυνθῇς (ἐπαισχύνομαι) | epaischynthēs | ”be ashamed” | to feel shame regarding a person or message | be ashamed, be embarrassed | ”Do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord” (1:8) | Şermezar nebe — “do not be ashamed” | Medium-High — Kurdish social life carries strong honor-shame dynamics; the force of refusing public shame regarding the gospel must land with full weight in this cultural setting, requiring careful, non-flattened handling |
| μαρτύριον (μαρτύριον) | martyrion | ”testimony, witness” | formal or public testimony | testimony, witness | The apostolic testimony about Christ, not to be shamed | Şahidî — “testimony” | Medium |
| συγκακοπάθησον (συγκακοπαθέω) | synkakopathēson | ”share in suffering together” | joint endurance of hardship | share in suffering, suffer together with | Timothy is called to share Paul’s sufferings for the gospel | Bi hev re zehmetiyê bikişîne — “endure hardship together” | High — reuse of κακοπαθέω family; see 4:5 note on anchoring suffering specifically to gospel ministry |
| κλήσει ἁγίᾳ | klēsei hagia | ”with a holy calling” | God’s summons set apart for his purposes | holy calling | God’s own initiative in salvation and calling, not human merit | Vexwendina Pîroz (baseline terms Vexwendin + Pîroz, reused exactly in combination) | High — reuse baseline caution on “called/calling” |
| πρόθεσιν (πρόθεσις) | prothesin | ”purpose, plan, intention” | a predetermined plan | purpose, plan, intention | God’s own eternal purpose and grace, prior to any human works | Mebest — “purpose/intention” | Medium — ties to baseline providence (Rêveberiya Xwedê) |
| ἀφθαρσίαν (ἀφθαρσία) | aphtharsian | ”incorruption, immortality” | freedom from decay, deathlessness | immortality, incorruption | Life and immortality “brought to light” through the gospel — the resurrection hope revealed decisively in Christ | Nemirî — “immortality” (new term) | Medium — risk of collapsing into a generic “immortal soul” concept (common across many regional religious/philosophical frameworks) detached from bodily resurrection (Rabûn, baseline Critical term); must be taught as resurrection-life, not disembodied eternal survival |
| κήρυκα (κῆρυξ) | kēryka | ”herald, proclaimer” | one who publicly announces with authority | preacher, herald, proclaimer | Paul’s threefold office: herald, apostle, teacher | Ragihîner — “proclaimer/herald” (agent noun from ragihandin, consistent with 4:2’s κηρύσσω rendering) | Medium |
| διδάσκαλος (διδάσκαλος) | didaskalos | ”teacher” | one who instructs | teacher | Third of Paul’s threefold office | Mamoste — “teacher” | Low |
| παραθήκην (παραθήκη) | parathēkēn | ”deposit, that which is entrusted” | a valuable item placed in trust for safekeeping | deposit, trust, what has been entrusted | The doctrinal core of “Guarding Sound Doctrine” / “Faithful Transmission of the Gospel” — the body of apostolic teaching entrusted to Timothy for safekeeping and onward transmission | Spartî (“that which has been entrusted” — new native term, from spartin, “to entrust/commit”) | High — deliberately chosen over the common regional loanword emanet (Arabic-derived, heavily loaded with the Qur’anic concept of al-amānah, Q33:72, a broad anthropological doctrine of humanity’s cosmic trusteeship). Emanet was rejected because it would import that much broader, different theological category; Spartî keeps Paul’s narrower, specific sense: the guarding and passing on of the apostolic gospel content itself |
| φυλάξαι (φυλάσσω) | phylaxai | ”to guard, keep watch over” | protective custody of something valuable | guard, keep, protect | God is able to guard what Paul has entrusted to him; Timothy is likewise charged to guard the deposit (1:14) | Parastin — “to guard/protect” | Medium |
| ὑποτύπωσιν ὑγιαινόντων λόγων | hypotypōsin hygiainontōn logōn | ”a pattern/outline of healthy words” | a model or template of sound teaching to be followed | pattern of sound words, standard of sound teaching | Reinforces the “sound teaching” (ὑγιαίνω) word-family central to “Guarding Sound Doctrine” | Nimûneya peyvên saxlem — “the pattern of sound/healthy words” | High — reuse of Hîndariya Saxlem root established at 4:3 |
Chapter 2 (2 Timothy 2:1–26)
Charge to entrust sound teaching to faithful men; soldier/athlete/farmer metaphors; remembering Christ’s resurrection; the Lord’s faithfulness; rightly handling the word; the spreading corruption of false teaching; vessels of honor and dishonor; the Lord’s servant and repentance.
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἐνδυναμοῦ (ἐνδυναμόω) | endynamou | ”be strengthened” | to be empowered, made strong | be strong, be empowered | Timothy’s strength is “in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” | Xurt bibe — “be strong” | Low |
| παράθου (παρατίθημι) | parathou | ”entrust, commit, deposit” | placing something valuable in another’s trust for safekeeping/transmission | entrust, commit, hand over | The doctrinal core of “Faithful Transmission of the Gospel” (2:2) — a four-generation chain: Paul → Timothy → faithful men → others also | Bispêre (from spartin, consistent with Spartî, ch.1) | High — this is the single clearest textual anchor for the “Faithful Transmission” doctrine in the entire book; the four-link chain (Paul, Timothy, faithful men, others also) must be preserved clearly in translation, not collapsed |
| πιστοῖς ἀνθρώποις | pistois anthrōpois | ”faithful/trustworthy people” | reliable, dependable persons capable of sound transmission | faithful men, trustworthy people, reliable people | Qualification for onward transmission: trustworthiness and teaching capacity, not mere belief | Kesên pêbawer — “trustworthy/reliable people” | Medium — πιστός here leans toward “trustworthy/reliable” more than the baseline “believing” sense (Îman); context should clarify this nuance |
| στρατιώτης (στρατιώτης) | stratiōtēs | ”soldier” | a member of an army under a commander’s authority | soldier | Metaphor: undivided devotion to one’s commanding officer, applied to devotion to Christ | Esker (leşker) — “soldier” (generic) | High — must NEVER be rendered as peşmerge (the specific term for Kurdish nationalist militia fighters); doing so would import a politically loaded, ethnically specific military identity utterly foreign to Paul’s point. A neutral, generic word for “soldier” must be used, with the metaphor’s spiritual, non-political, non-military-literal character made explicit |
| ἀθλῇ (ἀθλέω) | athlē | ”compete as an athlete” | competing according to the rules of an athletic contest | compete, compete as an athlete | Metaphor: disciplined, rule-following effort | Pêşbazî kirin — “to compete” | Low |
| γεωργὸν (γεωργός) | geōrgon | ”farmer” | one who cultivates land | farmer, tiller of the soil | Metaphor: patient labor rewarded with a share of the crop | Cotkar — “farmer” | Low |
| ἐγηγερμένον ἐκ νεκρῶν, ἐκ σπέρματος Δαυίδ | egēgermenon ek nekrōn, ek spermatos Dauid | ”raised from the dead, of the seed of David” | Christ’s resurrection and Davidic descent | risen from the dead, of the offspring of David | Central gospel content Timothy must “remember” (2:8) | Rabûn + Dûndana Dawid (baseline terms, reused exactly) | Critical — full reuse of baseline Critical-risk terms; no deviation |
| ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ οὐ δέδεται | ho logos tou theou ou dedetai | ”the word of God is not bound/chained” | God’s message cannot be imprisoned even when its messenger is | the word of God is not bound, cannot be chained | Encouragement amid Paul’s imprisonment — highly relevant to believers under restriction in several of the four Kurdish-speaking states | Peyva Xwedê nayê zincîrkirin — “the Word of God cannot be chained” | Medium-High — pastorally significant given differing religious-freedom conditions across Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria |
| τοὺς ἐκλεκτούς (ἐκλεκτός) | eklektous | see baseline election | see baseline | the elect, the chosen | Paul endures “for the sake of the elect” | Hilbijartin-root, “hilbijartî” (the elect/chosen) — reuse baseline term | High — reuse baseline caution: not a democratic vote |
| πιστὸς μένει (πιστός) | pistos menei | ”he remains faithful” | God’s own unwavering, unconditional faithfulness, even when believers are unfaithful | he remains faithful, he stays faithful | Distinct from human faith/faithfulness — this is God’s own unchanging character, contrasted with human unfaithfulness (“if we are faithless”) | Ew her dilsoz dimîne — “he remains faithful/loyal” | High — must not be collapsed into the human-response sense of Îman; this is an attribute of God’s own character, foundational to “Assurance” |
| ὀρθοτομοῦντα (ὀρθοτομέω) | orthotomounta | ”rightly handling/cutting straight” | accurate, careful, correct handling of a text | rightly dividing, rightly handling, correctly teaching | Timothy must handle “the word of truth” with precision, not distort it | Rast bi kar tîne peyva rastiyê — “rightly handles the word of truth” | Medium-High — ties to “Guarding Sound Doctrine” and “Faithful Transmission” |
| βεβήλους κενοφωνίας | bebēlous kenophōnias | ”irreverent/profane empty talk” | worthless, godless chatter that leads nowhere good | irreverent babble, empty chatter, godless chatter | Contrasted with rightly-handled truth; leads to further ungodliness (ἀσέβεια) | Axaftina vala û bêrûmet — “empty and irreverent talk” | Low-Medium |
| ἀσέβειαν (ἀσέβεια) | asebeian | ”ungodliness, impiety” | lack of proper reverence toward God | ungodliness, godlessness, impiety | The destination of unchecked false teaching | Bêxwedatî — “godlessness” (negation of Xwedêperestî, see ch. 3) | Medium |
| γάγγραινα (γάγγραινα) | gangraina | ”gangrene” | a spreading, deadly infection of tissue | gangrene, cancer (idiomatic) | Vivid medical metaphor for how false teaching spreads and destroys | Nexweşiya qirêjbûyî ya belavbûyî — “a spreading, rotting disease” | Low — vivid metaphor, preserve force |
| ἀνάστασιν ἤδη γεγονέναι | anastasin ēdē gegonenai | ”the resurrection has already happened” | the false teaching of Hymenaeus and Philetus — an over-realized eschatology denying a future bodily resurrection | resurrection already past, resurrection already occurred | A specific named heresy: denying future bodily resurrection by claiming it is already (merely spiritually) complete | Ew dibêjin rabûn jixwe qewimiye — “they say the resurrection has already occurred” | High — direct case study for “Apostasy and False Teachers”; reuses Rabûn (baseline Critical term) and must clarify this is a denial of the future bodily resurrection, disguised as an over-claim |
| θεμέλιος (θεμέλιος) | themelios | ”foundation” | the fixed, stable base of a structure | foundation | ”God’s firm foundation stands,” despite such error | Bingeh — “foundation” | Low |
| σκεύη (σκεῦος) | skeuē | ”vessels, containers” | household containers of varying material and use | vessels, containers | Metaphor for believers of varying honor/use within God’s household | Amûr (amûrên rûmetê / amûrên bêrûmetiyê) — “vessels (of honor/of dishonor),” reusing Rûmet (baseline term for glory/honor) | Medium |
| νεωτερικὰς ἐπιθυμίας | neōterikas epithymias | ”youthful desires/passions” | impulses characteristic of youth | youthful passions, youthful lusts | Timothy told to flee these and pursue righteousness instead | Hewesên xortaniyê — “youthful desires” | Low-Medium |
| δικαιοσύνην, πίστιν, ἀγάπην, εἰρήνην | dikaiosynēn, pistin, agapēn, eirēnēn | ”righteousness, faith, love, peace” | four core virtues to be pursued | righteousness, faith, love, peace | Positive virtues to replace fled youthful passions | Adalet, Îman, Evîn, Aştî (Adalet, Îman, Aştî reused exactly from baseline; Evîn newly proposed for love) | High — Evîn is Kurdish classical Sufi poetry’s (Melayê Cizîrî, Ehmedê Xanî) preferred term for intimate/mystical love; this is a genuine warmth asset (as already noted for Bav/Father in the baseline) but risks merging ἀγάπη’s self-giving, covenantal sense with the lover-beloved mystical-union register of Sufi devotional poetry; anchoring to Christ’s self-giving pattern (not romantic/mystical union) is required |
| δοῦλον Κυρίου (δοῦλος) | doulon Kyriou | ”servant/slave of the Lord” | one wholly owned by and devoted to a master | the Lord’s servant, slave of the Lord | Timothy’s ministerial identity: total devotion, not autonomous authority | Xulamê Xudan — “servant of the Lord,” reusing Xudan (baseline term) exactly | Medium — genuine asset: the Islamic self-designation ‘abd Allāh (“servant/slave of God”) is a positive, foundational category regionally, giving this image real resonance, provided Xudan’s exclusive, supreme Lordship (already Critical in baseline) is not thereby diluted |
| μετάνοιαν (μετάνοια) | metanoian | ”repentance, change of mind” | a fundamental reorientation away from error toward truth | repentance | God may grant opponents repentance leading to “the knowledge of the truth” | Tobe — “repentance” (new term, standard regional word) | Medium — asset-with-anchor: Islamic tawba is a well-developed, positive concept of turning back to God; must be tied specifically to recognizing the gospel truth about Christ (ἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας), not generic ritual repentance |
| ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας | epignōsin alētheias | ”knowledge/recognition of the truth” | full, accurate recognition of gospel truth | knowledge of the truth | The goal of repentance: recognizing the specific truth of the gospel | Nasîna rastiyê — “recognition of the truth” | Medium |
| παγίδος τοῦ διαβόλου | pagidos tou diabolou | ”snare/trap of the devil” | a trap set by a personal evil adversary | snare of the devil | The devil actively ensnares people through false teaching | Dafika Şeytên — “the snare of Satan” | Medium — Şeytan (Satan/devil) is a widely shared figure across regional Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition; broadly compatible conceptually, low-to-medium collision risk |
Chapter 3, verses 1–13 (2 Timothy 3:1–13)
(Verses 14–17 of this chapter belong to the core passage above and are not repeated here.)
The “last days” vice catalogue; men who resist the truth like Jannes and Jambres; the promise that persecution accompanies godly living.
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ἐσχάταις ἡμέραις | eschatais hēmerais | ”in the last days” | the period inaugurated by Christ’s first coming, characterized (among other things) by increasing apostasy | last days, latter days, end times | The doctrinal core of “Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days” | Rojên Dawî — “the Last Days” | High — regional Islamic eschatology has its own richly developed end-times framework (Yawm al-Qiyāmah, signs of the Hour, al-Mahdi/al-Dajjāl expectations), and various Kurdish millenarian movements add further layers; “Rojên Dawî” must be anchored to the NT’s inaugurated eschatology (the whole church age is characterized by such apostasy) rather than heard as an imminent political-apocalyptic countdown |
| χαλεποὶ καιροί | chalepoi kairoi | ”difficult/dangerous/perilous times” | harsh, hard-to-bear seasons | perilous times, difficult times, hard times | Sets the tone for the vice list that follows | Demên dijwar — “difficult times” | Low-Medium |
| φιλήδονοι μᾶλλον ἢ φιλόθεοι | philēdonoi mallon ē philotheoi | ”lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” | preferring self-gratification over devotion to God | lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God | The climactic summary contrast of the entire vice list (3:2-4) | Hezkirina kêfê ji hezkirina Xwedê zêdetir — “loving pleasure more than loving God” | Medium — culminating term of the list; the surrounding 18 vices (self-love, boastfulness, pride, blasphemy, disobedience to parents, ingratitude, slander, lack of self-control, treachery, etc.) form a standard Greco-Roman vice-catalogue genre and do not each require separate glossary treatment, but this climactic phrase is the passage’s theological center of gravity |
| μόρφωσιν εὐσεβείας… τὴν δὲ δύναμιν αὐτῆς ἠρνημένοι | morphōsin eusebeias… tēn de dynamin autēs ērnēmenoi | ”a form of godliness… but denying its power” | outward religious appearance without inward transformative reality | form of godliness without its power | Diagnostic marker for identifying false teachers: correct religious appearance, absent transformative reality | Dirûvê xwedêperestiyê hene, lê hêza wê înkar dikin — “they have the form of godliness but deny its power” | High — εὐσέβεια (“godliness/piety”) risks conflation with the strong regional emphasis on outward religious observance (ritual prayer, fasting, visible piety markers) as the primary measure of devotion; the passage’s critique specifically targets form-without-power, requiring explicit teaching that biblical godliness is inward, Spirit-empowered transformation, not correct external practice alone |
| ἀπατῶντες καὶ πλανώμενοι | apatōntes kai planōmenoi | ”deceiving and being deceived” | practicing and being subject to deception simultaneously | deceiving and being deceived | Describes the trajectory of “evil people and impostors” (πονηροὶ ἄνθρωποι καὶ γόητες) | Xapandin û xapîn — “deceiving and being deceived” | Medium |
| γόητες (γόης) | goētes | ”imposters, charlatans, sorcerers” (lit. “sorcerer/wizard”) | fraudulent deceivers; literal sense involves occult practice | impostors, deceivers, charlatans | Metaphorical use here: skilled religious deceivers, not literal occult practitioners | Xapînok — “deceiver/impostor” | Medium — deliberately NOT rendered as cadûger (“sorcerer/magic-worker”), which would invoke regional folk beliefs about jinn and literal magic and misdirect the passage’s actual point (doctrinal deception, not occult practice) |
| πάντες οἱ θέλοντες εὐσεβῶς ζῆν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ διωχθήσονται | pantes hoi thelontes eusebōs zēn en Christō Iēsou diōchthēsontai | ”all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” | a universal promise of persecution for genuine godly living in Christ | all who desire to live godly…will be persecuted | The clearest textual statement in the book linking godliness in Christ to certain persecution — central to “Perseverance under Suffering” | Hemû yên ku dixwazin bi rêya xwedêperestiyê di Îsa Mesîh de bijîn, wê werin çewisandin — “all who want to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted/oppressed” | Critical — çewisandin (“to persecute/oppress”) is precisely the vocabulary used to describe historical and ongoing state persecution of Kurds as an ethnic-political group across all four host states (language suppression, displacement, denial of rights). This is a genuine double-edged asset-and-risk exactly parallel to the baseline’s treatment of Rizgarî: it gives believers a visceral, non-abstract grasp that persecution is real, but risks conflating persecution for Christian faith specifically with ethnic-political persecution as Kurds generally. Every occurrence must anchor the persecution in view to identification with Christ, while still honestly acknowledging the differing real-world stakes across Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria |
Chapter 4, verses 6–22 (2 Timothy 4:6–22)
(Verses 1–5 of this chapter belong to the core passage above and are not repeated here.)
Paul’s approaching death; the crown of righteousness; personal requests and greetings; the Lord’s rescue and glory.
| Original | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Semantic Range | English Variants | Contextual Theological Meaning | Kurdish Rendering | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| σπένδομαι (σπένδω) | spendomai | ”I am already being poured out (as a drink offering)“ | sacrificial libation imagery, poured out at the base of an altar | poured out as a drink offering, poured out as a sacrifice | Paul frames his approaching death as a sacrificial offering to God for the gospel’s sake | Ez wek goriyekê têm rijandin — “I am being poured out like a sacrifice” | Critical — gorî (“sacrifice/offering”) is the same word at the heart of Kurdish nationalist/political martyrdom vocabulary (şehîd, fedayî — those who “sacrificed themselves,” canê xwe gorî kirin, for Kurdistan). This creates a collision risk of the same magnitude as Rizgarî/salvation: Paul’s voluntary self-giving unto death for the gospel’s sake must be explicitly anchored to union with Christ’s own self-giving, not assimilated into the powerful regional tradition of national political martyrdom |
| τῆς ἀναλύσεώς μου | tēs analyseōs mou | ”of my departure” | a euphemism for death, “loosing” (of a ship from moorings, or a tent being struck) | my departure, my death | Paul’s calm, hope-filled anticipation of death | Çûyîna min (ji vê jiyanê) — “my departure (from this life)“ | Low-Medium — standard euphemism |
| τὸν ἀγῶνα…τὸν δρόμον…τὴν πίστιν τετήρηκα | ton agōna…ton dromon…tēn pistin tetērēka | ”the contest…the race…I have kept the faith” | athletic imagery of a finished competition | fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith | Paul’s summary testimony at the end of his ministry — central to “Assurance of Reward” | Min pêşbirka baş kir, pêşbaziya xwe qedand, Îmana xwe parast — “I fought the good contest, finished my race, kept my faith” (reusing Îman and parastin, established in ch.1) | Medium-High — the military/athletic-contest imagery (also present in στρατιώτης, 2:3) must be kept clearly metaphorical, given the prominence of literal armed struggle (peşmerge, historical guerrilla resistance) in Kurdish lived experience across all four states |
| ὁ τῆς δικαιοσύνης στέφανος | ho tēs dikaiosynēs stephanos | ”the crown of righteousness” | a victor’s wreath (not a royal diadem) awarded for faithful completion of a race/contest | crown of righteousness | The doctrinal core of “Assurance of Reward” — an eschatological reward for faithful endurance, reusing Adalet (baseline) | Tacê Adaletê — “the Crown of Righteousness” | High — Greek στέφανος denotes a victor’s wreath, distinct from a royal diadem (διάδημα); Kurdish “tac” (crown) most naturally evokes royal/political kingship imagery, which risks entangling this reward-image with the already-Critical political sensitivity around “Kingdom of God” and Kurdish national aspirations to statehood. Teaching must clarify this is an athletic victor’s reward, not a royal or national crown, and must not be earned by merit but is God’s gracious reward for faithful, grace-enabled endurance (preserving the baseline’s Critical grace-vs-merit distinction) |
| ὁ δίκαιος κριτής | ho dikaios kritēs | ”the righteous Judge” | Christ in his role as final, impartial eschatological judge | the righteous Judge | Reuses κρίνω (see 4:1); the one who awards the crown | Dadgerê Adil — “the Righteous Judge” (built on dadger, native Kurdish compound, + Adalet root) | High — ties directly to deity_of_christ (Critical, baseline): Christ exercising the divine prerogative of righteous, final judgment |
| ἀγαπηκόσι τὴν ἐπιφάνειαν αὐτοῦ | ēgapēkosi tēn epiphaneian autou | ”who have loved his appearing” | believers who long for and love Christ’s return | who have loved his appearing | Universalizes the promised reward beyond Paul to “all” who love Christ’s return | Hemû yên ku hezkirina xuyabûna wî kirine — “all who have loved his appearing,” reusing Xuyabûn (4:1) and Evîn-root love language (ch. 2) | High — see 4:1 note on Xuyabûn’s Critical risk profile |
| ἐρρύσθην ἐκ στόματος λέοντος (ῥύομαι) | errysthēn ek stomatos leontos | ”I was rescued from the lion’s mouth” | a specific historical deliverance from mortal danger | rescued from the lion’s mouth, delivered from the lion’s mouth | God’s concrete, historical, providential rescue of Paul | Min ji devê şêr xilas kir — “he rescued me from the lion’s mouth” | Medium — xilas kirin (“to rescue”) is a close synonym of, but should be kept distinct from, the technical soteriological term Rizgarî; here it denotes a specific physical/providential rescue illustrating God’s care, not the technical doctrine of salvation from sin |
| σώσει εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ τὴν ἐπουράνιον | sōsei eis tēn basileian autou tēn epouranion | ”will save/bring safely into his heavenly kingdom” | final, ultimate deliverance into God’s eternal reign | will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom | Combines Rizgarî- and Padîşahiya Xwedê-related vocabulary in a single verse, an ideal anchor point for the baseline’s mandated political-anchoring rule | Wê min biparêze û min bibe Padîşahiya wî ya Ezmanî — “he will preserve me and bring me to his heavenly Kingdom,” reusing Padîşahiya Xwedê and rizgar/xilas language | Critical — reuse baseline anchoring requirement: “heavenly” (ezmanî) must always be retained and emphasized here as the explicit safeguard against any political-statehood reading |
| ᾧ ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων | hō hē doxa eis tous aiōnas tōn aiōnōn | ”to whom be glory forever and ever” | a doxological formula ascribing eternal glory to Christ | to whom be glory forever and ever | Closing doxology, ascribing glory (a divine attribute) to Christ | Rûmet (baseline term, reused exactly): “jê re rûmet heta hertim” | Medium — reuse baseline term; doxology to Christ himself reinforces deity_of_christ |
