Linguistic Gap Analysis

Several Romans concepts have no single-word Bodo equivalent at all, and require descriptive compounds to convey accurately — a larger share than in a language like Hindi with a more settled doctrinal-study tradition.

Terms requiring compound phrases

• Justification (धार्मिक होनाय राव — “the declaration of being made righteous”): no single Bodo word captures the forensic, legal-declaration sense; the compound must never be abbreviated to a word meaning only “forgiveness,” which loses the “declared righteous” dimension.
• Salvation (फोरायनाय, “being rescued/delivered”): this is a genuine conceptual gap rather than a compound-phrase gap — the word itself is adequate, but the eschatological concept it needs to carry has no existing native scaffold in Bathou tradition and must be taught explicitly every time it is introduced.
• Imputed righteousness (दानै लाबोनाय धार्मिकता — “righteousness received as a gift”): distinguishes credited righteousness from earned righteousness (मोनसे नि गुनथिजों लाबोनाय धार्मिकता, explicitly rejected); this distinction has no everyday Bodo equivalent and must be taught, not assumed.
• Adoption (गोसोआव फैनाय — “being brought into the heart/family”): formal legal adoption is not a settled category in traditional Bodo clan (afad) kinship, where inheritance runs through birth lineage; the full inheritance-rights sense of Romans 8:15-17 must be taught explicitly.

Terms requiring transliteration rather than translation

• Messiah / Christ (मसीह): transliterated, following regional Bible-translation convention, since no Bodo word carries the specific Jewish messianic-fulfillment sense.
• Abba (अब्बा): the Aramaic term of intimacy in Romans 8:15 is kept as a transliteration alongside आफा (father), because the informal filial intimacy Paul is pointing to would otherwise be lost.

Gap-filling strategy

Where no natural Bodo equivalent exists, this Language Package prefers a descriptive compound built from recognizable Bodo morphemes over inventing an unfamiliar coinage or reaching for a fluent-sounding Sanskrit/Hindi loan that could import unwanted Brahma Dharma connotations. Several such compounds are marked provisional pending confirmation by a Bodo-speaking theologian.
