Welcome to the Library

What is this?

The Library publishes the doctrine-aware translation research behind tri-bible.ai, one language and book at a time — free to read and reuse.

How to navigate

Pick a language, then a book, in the sidebar. Each book has a Doctrine Analysis, a Core Glossary, and, for the language as a whole, a Comparative Theology and Regional Analysis. Use the search icon in the top nav to jump straight to a term or doctrine instead of browsing.

What the risk tiers mean

Every doctrine and glossary term is labeled with how easily it could be misread or mistranslated in that language's own cultural and religious context:

Critical
A wrong word choice here risks distorting core theology — always reviewed by a theologian before use.
High
A real, well-documented risk of confusion with another tradition or belief system — needs theologian review.
Medium
Worth a native speaker's second look, but not likely to distort the core meaning.
Low
Minor wording nuance — low risk of confusion either way.

Core Glossary

Core Glossary — 1 Timothy (English → Modern Greek)

Legend

  • Status: Baseline reuse — term already established in translation_memory.json from the Romans/Galatians Language Package; rendering MUST be reused exactly, unchanged.
  • Status: New — term first requiring a formal entry in this Language Package for 1 Timothy; recommended rendering given, pending formal addition to translation_memory.json in Phase 2.
  • Risk tiers follow the baseline’s four-tier framework (Critical / High / Medium / Low) and drive Phase 2 review routing exactly as in doctrine_risk_registry.json.

Critical Risk Terms

God

Approved rendering: Θεός
Transliteration: Theós
Doctrine: God
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. 1 Timothy additionally titles the Father ‘Σωτήρ’ (Savior, 1:1; 2:3; 4:10) alongside Christ — see savior_god_father entry; the Father’s title must not be read as displacing Christ’s unique saving work.

Lord

Approved rendering: Κύριος
Transliteration: Kýrios
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. In 1 Timothy 6:15 the title ‘Lord of lords’ is applied contextually to the Father; do not assume exclusive Christological reference, though the same title is also later applied to Christ elsewhere in the NT (Revelation 17:14; 19:16).

Jesus

Approved rendering: Ιησούς
Transliteration: Iisoús
Doctrine: Christology
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged.

Christ

Approved rendering: Χριστός
Transliteration: Christós
Doctrine: Messianic Promise

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy uses Χριστός exclusively; Μεσσίας does not occur anywhere in this book, confirming the baseline’s stated preference.

Grace

Approved rendering: χάρη
Transliteration: chári
Doctrine: Grace
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Opens 1 Timothy’s greeting triad ‘χάρη, έλεος, ειρήνη’ (1:2) and underlies Paul’s account of his own conversion (1:14).

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: Άγιο Πνεύμα
Transliteration: Ágio Pnévma
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: πνεῦμα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Referenced at 1 Timothy 4:1 (‘the Spirit expressly says’) and 4:14’s prophetic commissioning; ensure the personal, divine third-Person sense is not read as an impersonal prophetic force.

Calling

Approved rendering: κλήση
Transliteration: klísi
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy 6:12 commands Timothy to ‘take hold of the eternal life to which you were called’ (εκλήθης) — the forbidden phone-call/summons substitution applies without exception.

Righteousness

Approved rendering: δικαιοσύνη
Transliteration: dikaiosýni
Doctrine: Salvation
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in the 6:11 virtue catalogue Timothy is told to pursue; do not flatten into a general civic virtue alongside the others, losing its forensic weight.

Redeem

Approved rendering: λυτρώνω / απολύτρωση
Transliteration: lytróno / apolýtrosi
Doctrine: Salvation
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Anchors 1 Timothy 2:6’s αντίλυτρο (ransom for all); never render with unglossed εξαγοράζω (forbidden substitution: bribery/corporate-buyout sense).

Flesh

Approved rendering: σάρκα
Transliteration: sárka
Doctrine: Sin

Inherited from Romans package. Applied Christologically rather than anthropologically at 1 Timothy 3:16 (‘manifested in the flesh’) — note this shift in referent from the Galatians vice-catalogue usage.

Salvation

Approved rendering: σωτηρία
Transliteration: sotiría
Doctrine: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy 2:4’s universal saving-will language and 4:10’s Father/Son Savior balance both reuse this root; preserve unqualified universal language per baseline rule.

Father

Approved rendering: Πατέρας
Transliteration: Patéras
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family

Inherited from Romans package. God the Father is also titled ‘Σωτήρ’ (Savior) in 1 Timothy — see savior_god_father entry — without displacing this title.

Son Of God

Approved rendering: Υιός του Θεού
Transliteration: Yiós tou Theoú
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ

Inherited from Romans package. Timothy’s spiritual sonship to Paul (‘γνήσιο τέκνο,’ 1:2) must remain explicitly distinct from this unique, eternal Sonship.

Justification

Approved rendering: δικαίωση
Transliteration: dikaíosi
Doctrine: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy 3:16’s ‘εδικαιώθη εν πνεύματι’ reuses this exact word-family but applied to Christ’s own vindication, not the believer’s forensic justification — mandatory disambiguating note required at this occurrence.

Holy

Approved rendering: άγιος
Transliteration: ágios
Doctrine: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. Underlies 1 Timothy 2:8’s instruction on ‘lifting holy hands’ in corporate prayer.

Savior God Father

Approved rendering: Σωτήρ
Transliteration: Sotír
Doctrine: Salvation
Category: Salvation

New term. The title ‘our Savior’ applied specifically to God the Father (1:1; 2:3; 4:10). Must not be read as displacing or competing with Christ’s unique saving work (cf. 1:15, ‘Christ Jesus came to save sinners’).

Mediator

Approved rendering: μεσίτης
Transliteration: mesítis
Doctrine: Christ as the One Mediator
Category: Christology

New term. 1 Timothy 2:5. The single sharpest doctrinal collision point in the letter for this destination culture: Orthodox piety gives constant, structurally central liturgical place to the intercession of saints and the Theotokos (‘Πρέσβευε υπέρ ημών’). Mandatory translator note on every occurrence: Christ’s unique, sufficient, sole mediatorship of reconciliation between God and humanity, not a claim excluding requested intercessory prayer among believers. Human theologian review required without exception.

Ransom For All

Transliteration: antílytro
Doctrine: Christ as the One Mediator

New term. 1 Timothy 2:6. Anchor to baseline’s mandated λύτρωση/απολύτρωση word family; NEVER render with unglossed εξαγοράζω (forbidden substitution: bribery/corporate-buyout sense).

Overseer Bishop

Approved rendering: επίσκοπος
Transliteration: epískopos
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term. Exact current title of the Orthodox diocesan bishop. Mandatory note on every occurrence: ἐπίσκοπος = πρεσβύτερος functionally in the Pastorals (cf. 5:1-2, 17), not the later fixed three-order hierarchy. Human theologian review required for every occurrence (3:1-7).

Deacon

Approved rendering: διάκονος
Transliteration: diákonos
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term. Exact current title of the Orthodox ordained deacon. Mandatory note distinguishing Paul’s office of practical/charitable service (3:8-13) from the later fixed liturgical order. Human theologian review required for every occurrence.

Manifested In Flesh

Approved rendering: εφανερώθη εν σαρκί
Transliteration: efanerṑthi en sarkí
Doctrine: Incarnation
Original: ἐφανερώθη ἐν σαρκί
Category: Incarnation

New term, reuses baseline σάρκα vocabulary applied Christologically. 1 Timothy 3:16, opening line of the ancient creedal fragment. Note the Byzantine/Majority textform reads ‘Θεός εφανερώθη εν σαρκί’ (explicit deity predication) while the Alexandrian/critical textform reads ‘ὅς εφανερώθη’ (relative pronoun); document the chosen textform. Human theologian review required.

Vindicated In Spirit

Approved rendering: εδικαιώθη εν πνεύματι
Transliteration: edikaiṑthi en pnévmati
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: ἐδικαιώθη ἐν πνεύματι
Category: Deity of Christ

New term, reuses the δικαιόω root the baseline trains readers to associate with believer’s justification. 1 Timothy 3:16. Mandatory disambiguating note: this is Christ’s own vindication/exoneration (e.g. through the resurrection), not an instance of justification by faith as taught of believers in Romans 3-5 and Galatians.

Elder

Approved rendering: πρεσβύτερος
Transliteration: presvýteros
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term. Exact current title of the Orthodox parish priest (formally Πρεσβύτερος/Ιερέας, colloquially ‘παπάς’). Mandatory note on every occurrence (5:1, 17, 19): πρεσβύτερος and ἐπίσκοπος describe the same office from two angles in the Pastorals, a single plural-eldership pattern, not the later fixed three-order hierarchy. Human theologian review required.

Godliness As Gain

Transliteration: nomízontas porismó tin efsévia
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Category: Godliness and Contentment

New term. 1 Timothy 6:5. Weaponizes the letter’s own central virtue (ευσέβεια) against itself; live contemporary sensitivity around clergy income and church wealth in Greek public discourse. Requires careful, non-polemical framing: Paul’s target is profit-seeking motive, not paid ministry as such (cf. 5:17-18).

King Of Kings Lord Of Lords

Transliteration: vasilévs ton vasilevónton kai kýrios ton kyrievónton
Doctrine: God / Christ as the One Mediator

New term, reuses baseline Κύριος. 1 Timothy 6:15. Applied here to the Father; do not assume exclusive Christological reference, though the same title is also later used of Christ elsewhere in the NT (Revelation 17:14; 19:16).

Deposit Of Faith

Approved rendering: παραθήκη
Transliteration: paratheíki
Doctrine: Guarding the Deposit of Faith
Category: Guarding the Deposit of Faith

New term, the letter’s climactic term. 1 Timothy 6:20 (also 2 Timothy 1:14). Fully alive in Modern Greek banking vocabulary (κατάθεση/παρακαταθήκη) — a genuine lexical asset. Textual variant note: Byzantine/Majority text reads the longer παρακαταθήκην, critical text the shorter παραθήκην; document the chosen textform for consistency with the 3:16 decision. Theologically, the deposit is the fixed apostolic teaching to be preserved unchanged, not a personal endowment to invest/grow. Human theologian review required at every occurrence.

High Risk Terms

Faith

Approved rendering: πίστη
Transliteration: písti
Doctrine: Faith
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy 3:11 and 5:22 use πίστη in a secondary sense of personal trustworthiness/faithfulness, distinct from saving faith in Christ; disambiguate by context in every occurrence.

Law

Approved rendering: νόμος
Transliteration: nómos
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy 1:8-9 affirms the law is good ‘if one uses it lawfully’; scope to the Mosaic law’s proper vs. improper use by the false teachers, not law-in-general.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: αγιασμός
Transliteration: agiasmós
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἁγιάζω
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. The verb form (αγιάζεται) appears at 1 Timothy 4:5 (‘sanctified through the word of God and prayer’); distinguish from the specific Epiphany water-blessing rite also called αγιασμός.

Gospel

Approved rendering: ευαγγέλιο
Transliteration: evangélio
Doctrine: Gospel
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy 1:11 speaks of ‘the glorious gospel of the blessed God’ entrusted to Paul.

Intercession

Approved rendering: μεσιτεία
Transliteration: mesiteía
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. Distinct from but adjacent to 1 Timothy 2:1’s εντεύξεις and 2:5’s μεσίτης (Christ’s unique mediatorship) — keep all three concepts distinct in teaching material.

Incarnation

Approved rendering: ενανθρώπηση
Transliteration: enanthrópisi
Doctrine: Incarnation

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy 3:16’s ‘εφανερώθη εν σαρκί’ is this curriculum’s primary incarnation text; guard against theosis-framing displacing the verse’s own historical, bodily affirmation.

Different Doctrine

Approved rendering: ετεροδιδασκαλία / ετεροδιδασκαλέω
Transliteration: eterodidaskalía
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Category: Sound Doctrine

New term. Inherits the baseline’s ἕτερος (‘different in kind’) vs ἄλλος (‘another of the same kind’) distinction established for Galatians’ different_gospel entry. 1 Timothy 1:3; 6:3.

Stewardship Of God

Approved rendering: οικονομία Θεού
Transliteration: oikonomía Theoú
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Category: Sound Doctrine

New term. 1 Timothy 1:4. Risk of collision with (a) the secular national-economy sense and (b) the distinct later technical Orthodox canonical term ‘οικονομία’ (pastoral dispensation). Gloss required distinguishing all three senses.

Prayer Vocabulary Fourfold

Transliteration: deísis, proseftés, endéfxis, efcharistíes
Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer

New term (εντεύξεις new; ευχαριστίες = baseline reuse). 1 Timothy 2:1. Έντευξις must not default to saintly/Marian mediation as the necessary model for intercession; keep distinct from μεσίτης (2:5) and μεσιτεία (baseline).

Quiet Life

Transliteration: íremos kai isýchios víos
Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer
Category: Worship

New term. 1 Timothy 2:2. ἡσύχιος is the direct root of ἡσυχασμός (Hesychasm, Mount Athos, Gregory Palamas); mandatory gloss distinguishing Paul’s plain civic-tranquility sense from the technical contemplative-stillness tradition.

Exercise Authority

Transliteration: afthentó / askó exousía
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term, NT hapax legomenon. 1 Timothy 2:12. Genuinely disputed range (neutral ‘exercise authority’ vs. negative ‘domineer/usurp’); render conservatively, flag rather than silently resolve. Human theologian review required.

Saved Through Childbearing

Approved rendering: θα σωθεί δια της τεκνογονίας
Transliteration: tha sotheí dia tis teknogonías
Doctrine: Salvation
Category: Salvation

New term, reuses baseline σωτηρία root. 1 Timothy 2:15. One of the most exegetically difficult phrases in the Pastorals; render literally, mandatory human theologian review, survey interpretive range; must never read as salvation-by-works added to faith.

Office Of Overseer

Approved rendering: επισκοπή
Transliteration: episkopí
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term. 1 Timothy 3:1. Modern Greek defaults to ‘diocese/bishopric’; mandatory note distinguishing Paul’s local congregational-oversight function from the developed diocesan office.

Husband Of One Wife

Transliteration: mias gynaikós ándra
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term. 1 Timothy 3:2, 12. Intersects live Orthodox clerical-marriage canon law (married priests permitted; no remarriage after ordination; celibate monastic bishops). Mandatory note: Paul’s concern is marital fidelity/singular devotion as observable character evidence, not adjudication of later canonical rules.

Mystery Of Faith

Approved rendering: το μυστήριο της πίστεως
Transliteration: to mystírio tis písteos
Doctrine: Guarding the Deposit of Faith
Category: Sound Doctrine

New term. 1 Timothy 3:9. Modern Greek μυστήριο defaults overwhelmingly to a Sacred Mystery (τα Μυστήρια of the Orthodox Church, the seven sacraments). Mandatory translator note distinguishing the NT sense (a once-hidden truth now disclosed) from the technical sacramental sense.

Women In Ministry

Approved rendering: γυναίκες
Transliteration: gynaíkes
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term. 1 Timothy 3:11. Genuinely ambiguous in the source Greek (deacons’ wives vs. women serving in a deacon-like role); render as γυναίκες preserving the ambiguity. Mandatory translator note flagging the live scholarly debate. Human theologian review required.

Pillar Of Truth

Transliteration: stýlos kai edráioma tis alítheias
Doctrine: The Church as Pillar of Truth
Category: Church as Pillar of Truth

New term. 1 Timothy 3:15. Both words lexically stable and vivid in Modern Greek; risk is purely doctrinal — in a tradition holding Scripture and Holy Tradition jointly authoritative, this verse can be misread as making the institutional Church the source of truth rather than its support and guardian. Mandatory translator note; human theologian review required.

Mystery Of Godliness

Approved rendering: το μυστήριο της ευσέβειας
Transliteration: to mystírio tis efsévias
Doctrine: The Church as Pillar of Truth
Original: μυστήριον τῆς εὐσεβείας
Category: Sound Doctrine

New term. 1 Timothy 3:16. Combines the μυστήριον sacramental-collision risk with the ευσέβεια risk (see godliness entry).

Taken Up In Glory

Approved rendering: ανελήφθη εν δόξη
Transliteration: anelífthi en dóxi
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ (Ascension, distinct event)
Original: ἀνελήφθη ἐν δόξῃ
Category: Resurrection of Christ

New term, reuses baseline δόξα. 1 Timothy 3:16. Standard, stable term also naming the liturgical feast of the Ascension (Ανάληψη) — a genuine cultural/liturgical asset; ensure it is taught as distinct from the Resurrection (ανάσταση), not conflated with it.

Deceitful Spirits

Transliteration: pnévmata plánis, didaskalíes daimoníon
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Category: Sound Doctrine

New term. 1 Timothy 4:1. δαιμόνιο remains a live, serious theological word in Modern Greek (not secularly bleached) — an asset preserving the spiritual-warfare framing rather than reducing false teaching to mere human error.

Godliness

Approved rendering: ευσέβεια
Transliteration: efsévia
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Category: Godliness and Contentment

New term, the letter’s central positive virtue-term (8 occurrences: 2:2, 10; 3:16; 4:7, 8; 6:3, 5, 6, 11). Byzantine imperial honorific history (‘ευσεβέστατος’) risks narrowing to formal state-linked piety; 6:5 directly weaponizes the word against itself. Must be taught as comprehensive, reverent, God-honoring life integrating belief and conduct.

Council Of Elders

Approved rendering: πρεσβυτέριο
Transliteration: presvytério
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term. 1 Timothy 4:14. Modern Greek ‘πρεσβυτέριο’ commonly means the parish priest’s residence/rectory in everyday usage. Mandatory note: here it must be read as ‘the council/body of elders,’ not a building.

Masters Despotes

Approved rendering: δεσπότες
Transliteration: despótes
Doctrine: Care for Widows and the Household of Faith (household code)
Category: Care for Widows and the Household of Faith

New term. 1 Timothy 6:1-2. Δεσπότης/‘Δέσποτα’ is the customary contemporary form of address for an Orthodox bishop. Mandatory translator note distinguishing the household-slavery referent from the ecclesiastical title; household-code material requires non-endorsing pastoral framing.

Healthy Doctrine

Approved rendering: υγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία
Transliteration: ygiaínousa didaskalía
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching
Original: ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία
Category: Sound Doctrine

New term, the letter’s central doctrinal category (1:10; 4:6; 6:3). Fully transparent in Modern Greek (υγιαίνω/υγιής) — a zero-gap asset whose very transparency risks flattening into bland ‘good teaching,’ missing Paul’s sharp health/disease contrast (paired with 6:4’s νοσεί). Render identically at every occurrence; draw out the metaphor explicitly in teaching notes.

Love Of Money

Approved rendering: φιλαργυρία
Transliteration: filargyría
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment
Rejected alternatives: ‘η ρίζα’ (the root, definite article) αντί για ‘μία ρίζα’ (a root), υπερβάλλοντας το κείμενο
Original: φιλαργυρία
Category: Godliness and Contentment

New term, transparent compound. 1 Timothy 6:10. Deliberately echoes 3:3’s ἀφιλάργυρος — Paul’s own internal cross-reference; teach together. Precision required: ‘a root’ (μία ρίζα), not ‘the root,’ of all kinds of evils.

Appearing Of Christ

Transliteration: epifáneia tou Kyríou imón Iisoú Christoú
Doctrine: Christ as the One Mediator (eschatology)
Category: Christ as the One Mediator

New term, reuses baseline Κύριος. 1 Timothy 6:14. Exact name of the major Orthodox liturgical feast of Θεοφάνεια/Επιφάνεια (Christ’s baptism, January 6), not his Second Coming. Mandatory translator note distinguishing the eschatological sense intended here (paralleled at 2 Timothy 4:1, 8; Titus 2:13).

Unapproachable Light

Approved rendering: φως οικών απρόσιτον
Transliteration: fos oikón aprósito
Doctrine: Divine Transcendence and Doxology
Original: φῶς οἰκῶν ἀπρόσιτον
Category: God

New term. 1 Timothy 6:16. Resonates directly with Palamite/Hesychast uncreated-light theology (τὸ ἄκτιστον φῶς, Gregory Palamas, Mount Athos) — a genuine theological asset, but the later technical, participatory-vision doctrine must not be silently imported into Paul’s own point about God’s transcendent inaccessibility apart from Christ’s mediation (ties to 2:5).

Medium Risk Terms

Church

Approved rendering: εκκλησία
Transliteration: ekklisía
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Central to 1 Timothy 3:5 (‘church of God’) and 3:15 (‘church of the living God, pillar and foundation of the truth’); must not be read as the institutional Church of Greece or a building.

Sin

Approved rendering: αμαρτία
Transliteration: amartía
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Category: Sin

Inherited from Romans package. 1 Timothy 1:15 uniquely has Paul call himself ‘foremost’ (πρώτος) of sinners; do not flatten πρώτος to a merely rhetorical ‘one sinner among many.‘

Glory

Approved rendering: δόξα
Transliteration: dóxa
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in the creedal hymn (3:16, ‘taken up in glory’) and the closing doxologies (1:17; 6:16).

Thanksgiving

Approved rendering: ευχαριστία
Transliteration: efcharistía
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Category: Worship

Inherited from Romans package. Part of the fourfold prayer vocabulary of 1 Timothy 2:1; distinguish from the sacramental Θεία Ευχαριστία (Holy Communion).

Spiritual Gifts

Approved rendering: πνευματικά χαρίσματα
Transliteration: pnevmatiká charísmata

Gentiles

Approved rendering: έθνη
Transliteration: éthni
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles

Inherited from Romans package. Used at 1 Timothy 2:7 (‘teacher of the Gentiles’) and 3:16 (‘proclaimed among the nations’).

Mission

Approved rendering: αποστολή
Transliteration: apostolí
Doctrine: Mission to the Nations

Inherited from Romans package. Underlies 1 Timothy 2:7’s ‘teacher of the Gentiles’ commissioning language.

Peace

Approved rendering: ειρήνη
Transliteration: eiríni
Doctrine: Peace with God

Inherited from Romans package. Third term of 1 Timothy 1:2’s greeting triad; distinguish from the Hesychast ἡσυχία register especially relevant to 1 Timothy 2:2’s ήρεμος και ησύχιος βίος.

Fellowship

Approved rendering: κοινωνία
Transliteration: koinonía
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship

Inherited from Romans package. Related to 1 Timothy 6:18’s ‘κοινωνικούς’ (generous, ready to share); watch that this is not read only in the modern ‘sociable’ everyday sense.

Mercy

Approved rendering: έλεος
Transliteration: éleos
Doctrine: Grace
Category: Salvation

New term. Second term of the greeting triad ‘χάρη, έλεος, ειρήνη’ (1:2); also 1:13, 16’s account of mercy shown to Paul. Modern Greek ‘έλεος’ remains stable and religious (‘Θεού έλεος’) but carries a colloquial exasperated idiom; preserve doctrinal register.

Myths And Genealogies

Transliteration: mýthoi kai ateleíotes genealogíes
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine versus False Teaching

New term. 1 Timothy 1:4. Do not let ‘μύθοι’ be heard as a critique of Hellenic cultural/mythological heritage generally — this targets specific speculative false teaching.

Shipwrecked Faith

Transliteration: naváyisan os pros tin písti
Doctrine: Guarding the Deposit of Faith

New term. 1 Timothy 1:19. Living Modern Greek nautical metaphor (ναυάγιο); a strong teaching asset for total-loss apostasy imagery.

Delivered To Satan

Transliteration: parédosa ston Satanná
Doctrine: Sin

New term. 1 Timothy 1:20. Corrective, not merely punitive, church discipline (cf. 1 Corinthians 5:5 parallel); preserve restorative intent in teaching notes.

Foremost Of Sinners

Approved rendering: αμαρτωλών πρώτος
Transliteration: amartolón prótos
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability

New term, reuses baseline αμαρτία root. 1 Timothy 1:15. Paul’s own paradigm-case self-description; ensure ‘πρώτος’ (foremost/chief) is not flattened to a merely rhetorical ‘one sinner among many.‘

Modest Apparel

Transliteration: kósmia perivolí, aidós, sofrosýni
Doctrine: Public Worship and Prayer

New term. 1 Timothy 2:9. Connects lexically to κόσμιος/σώφρων in chapter 3’s leadership qualifications; keep the cross-chapter lexical linkage visible for learners.

Above Reproach

Approved rendering: ανεπίλημπτος / ανέγκλητος
Transliteration: anepílimptos / anénklitos
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Original: ἀνεπίλημπτος / ἀνέγκλητος
Category: Church Leadership

New term. 1 Timothy 3:2, 10. Observable, testable public reputation, not sinless perfection; brief gloss (‘χωρίς αιτία κατηγορίας’) may aid clarity.

Self Controlled

Approved rendering: σώφρων / σωφροσύνη
Transliteration: sófron / sofrosýni
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership

New term. 1 Timothy 3:2; 2:9, 15. Broader disciplined self-mastery, not sexual restraint alone.

Not Lover Of Money

Approved rendering: αφιλάργυρος
Transliteration: afilárgyros
Doctrine: Godliness and Contentment

New term. 1 Timothy 3:3. Deliberately cross-referenced by Paul with 6:10’s φιλαργυρία — teach the two together; transparent compound.

Manage Household Well

Transliteration: proístamai kalós tou oíkou
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
Category: Church Leadership

New term. 1 Timothy 3:4-5. Household management as the proof-case for congregational leadership fitness; ensure the secular corporate-management sense of προΐσταμαι does not flatten the pastoral-care dimension.

Submission Dignity

Approved rendering: υποταγή, σεμνότητα
Transliteration: ypotagí, semnótita
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership

New term. 1 Timothy 3:4. Scope strictly to this household-order argument; do not generalize into unrelated authority contexts.

Good Standing

Approved rendering: βαθμός καλός
Transliteration: vathmós kalós
Doctrine: Qualifications for Church Leadership
