Doctrine Analysis

Doctrine Analysis: Revelation (English → Ndebele)

This document provides the full doctrine matrix for the book of Revelation, chapters 1–22, for the Ndebele destination-language package. It is fully consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json (Revelation): the same 21 doctrines, the same risk tiers, and the same review routing appear here. This document adds (a) a consolidated matrix view for Phase 2 planning, and (b) a chapter-by-chapter walkthrough demonstrating full-book coverage per the PRD Phase 1 mandate — every chapter is addressed explicitly, including chapters that contribute no new doctrinal or terminological load, which are noted as reviewed rather than omitted.

The core passage, Revelation 21:1–8, is the theological anchor of this curriculum (The New Heaven and New Earth), but doctrine coverage below spans the entire book.

Part 1: Doctrine Matrix

#Doctrine (English)Ndebele Doctrine NameRiskKey TermsSupporting Passages (Revelation)Translation Risk SummaryReview Routing

The throne-room scenes (chs. 4-5) must not read as distant or requiring ancestral mediation to approach.Human theologian
2The Return and Reign of Jesus ChristUkubuya Lokubusa kukaJesu KristuCriticaliNkosi, iNkosi yamakhosi, iLizwi likaNkulunkulu, iminyaka eyinkulungwane, “Woza, Nkosi Jesu”, umbuso kaNkulunkulu1:7; 11:15; 19:11-16; 20:4-6; 22:20”iNkosi yamakhosi” must be taught as decisively exceeding, not merely joining, every human king — including the historic Ndebele monarchy (Mzilikazi, Lobengula) that the base word “iNkosi” evokes. Christ’s reign displaces worldly kingdoms rather than ruling alongside them.Human theologian
3Christ as Sole Mediator (Revelation’s Fulfillment)UKristu Nguye Yedwa Umlamuli (Ukugcwaliseka KwesAmbulo)Criticalukuncengela, ummangaleli, ukuhlala kukaNkulunkulu (labantu), “bazabona ubuso bakhe”, impepha lemikhuleko yabangcwele8:3-4; 12:10-11; 21:3; 22:3-4Revelation supplies the fullest reinforcement of the baseline’s central doctrine. Prayers ascend directly to God (8:3-4); Satan-as-accuser is deliberately contrasted with Christ’s intercession (12:10-11); the tabernacling presence (21:3) and beatific vision (22:4) depict unmediated fellowship with God — the definitive rebuttal to the traditional requirement of amadlozi as go-betweens.Human theologian
4Worship of the LambUkukhonza iWundluCriticaliWundlu, ukukhonza, ufanele, izidalwa eziphilayo, abadala abangamatshumi amabili lane, ingoma entsha, Haleluya4:8-11; 5:6-14; 7:9-12; 19:1-10Worship exclusively due to the Lamb and God must be sharply distinguished from animal sacrifice/slaughter offered to appease or honor amadlozi. An angel’s own refusal of worship (19:10; 22:8-9) must be preserved to show no created being — human ancestor or heavenly messenger — may receive homage due to God alone.Human theologian
5Assurance of God’s Final Victory over EvilIsiqiniseko Sokunqoba kukaNkulunkulu Ekugcineni Phezu KobubiCriticalidrakoni, inyoka endala, uSathane, udiyabholi, ukunqoba, ichibi lomlilo, iHayidesi12:7-11; 19:19-21; 20:7-10; 20:14The dragon/ancient serpent must be taught as unambiguously evil and finally, totally defeated — never as an ambivalent spirit-being that might be appeased, ritually feared, or negotiated with, as some traditional serpent-spirit folklore allows. Final destruction grounds genuine assurance, not ongoing vigilance against an active threat.Human theologian
6Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the SaintsUkwahlulelwa Kwababi Lokuvikelwa KwabangcweleCriticalincwadi yokuphila, isihlalo sobukhosi esikhulu esimhlophe, ichibi lomlilo, ukufa kwesibili, abathakathi, isithombe, ubufakazi6:9-11; 18:20; 20:11-15; 21:8Final judgment — including of “abathakathi” (sorcerers) — must be taught as God’s own righteous verdict at the end of history, never conflated with fear of ancestral curses or witchcraft retribution circulating in the community, and never treated as license for believers to accuse living individuals of witchcraft.Human theologian
7The New Heaven and New EarthIzulu Elitsha Lomhlaba OmutshaCriticalizulu elitsha lomhlaba omutsha, iJerusalema Elitsha, ukuhlala kukaNkulunkulu, amanzi okuphila, isiqalekiso (akusayikuba khona), isihlahla sokuphila21:1-8; 21:9-27; 22:1-5Renewed creation must be taught as God’s qualitative, redemptive re-creation continuous with his original purposes — not a discarded-and-replaced creation implying the first creation failed. The removal of the curse (22:3) is a powerful positive point of contact with fear of ancestral/witchcraft curses but must retain its full cosmic (Genesis 3) scope.Human theologian
8The Church as Bride of ChristIbandla Njengomlobokazi kaKristuHighumlobokazi, idili lomtshado weWundlu, iJerusalema Elitsha, ibandla19:6-9; 21:2; 21:9-10; 22:17”Umlobokazi” carries strong positive Ndebele marriage-custom resonance (a bride prepared and adorned for her husband) — an asset when taught rightly — but must be anchored to Christ as the singular, faithful Bridegroom of the corporate Church, not polygynous custom nor an individual believer’s romantic pairing with Christ.Human theologian
9Perseverance and Faithful Witness under PersecutionUkubekezela Lobufakazi Obuthembekileyo Ngesikhathi SokuhlukuluzwaHighukunqoba, ubufakazi/umfakazi, abafakazi ababili, inhlupheko enkulu, ukubekezela, ubusisiwe1:9; 2:10; 6:9-11; 11:3-12; 12:11; 13:10Victory and endurance must be taught as flowing from Christ’s own triumph and hope in his return, not personal willpower, ritual protection, or fatalistic resignation to suffering as traditionally understood in relation to ancestral displeasure or misfortune.Human theologian
10Symbolic and Apocalyptic InterpretationIndlela Yokutolika Imifanekiso LesAmbuloMediumisAmbulo, abazinkulungwane ezilikhulu lamatshumi amane lane, inani lesilo, iArmagedoni, imfihlo, uphawu1:1; 7:4-9; 13:18; 16:16; 20:1-6The book’s genre as “isAmbulo” (unveiling) must frame teaching so symbolic numbers, beasts, and place-names are read for their apocalyptic communicative function, not flat literalism or speculative modern-day identification, while underlying doctrinal certainties are not softened.Native speaker review
11The Deity and Eternality of ChristUbunkulunkulu Lokungapheliyo kukaKristuCriticalu-Alfa lo-Omega/ukuqala lokuphela, iNdodana yomuntu, iLizwi likaNkulunkulu, iNdodana kaNkulunkulu, uAmeni1:8; 1:17-18; 19:13; 22:13”Alpha and Omega” applied to both God (1:8) and Christ (22:13) must affirm Christ’s full, co-equal deity. Because the transliterated Greek letters carry no independent meaning in Ndebele, the accompanying phrase “ukuqala lokuphela” must always be retained so the doctrinal weight is not lost.Human theologian
12Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of SatanImpi Yomoya Lokwahlulwa kukaSathaneCriticalidrakoni, inyoka endala, uSathane, udiyabholi, isilo, umphrofethi wamanga, uMikayeli12:1-17; 13:1-18; 19:19-20; 20:1-3; 20:7-10Satan, the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet must be taught as personal, defeated, created enemies of God — never conflated with amadlozi, and never treated as categories that izangoma/izinyanga might helpfully manage or negotiate with. The church’s weapons are the blood of the Lamb and faithful testimony (12:11), not ritual counter-measures.Human theologian
13The Exclusivity of Worship and Rejection of IdolatryUkukhonza uNkulunkulu Yedwa Lokwala Ukukhonza IzithombeCriticalukukhonza, isithombe/abakhonza izithombe, ukudla okuhlatshelwe izithombe, uphawu lwesilo, isifebe esikhulu2:14; 2:20; 9:20; 13:4-15; 14:9-11; 21:8; 22:15Warnings against idolatry and beast-worship must be taught alongside real cultural parallels (food ritually offered in ancestral ceremonies, veneration of ancestral images) without overstating the parallel (equating all Ndebele custom with beast-worship) or understating the seriousness of divided worship.Human theologian
14Eternal Punishment and the Second DeathIsijeziso Esingapheliyo Lokufa KwesibiliCriticaliHayidesi, ichibi lomlilo, ukufa kwesibili, incwadi yokuphila, abathakathi1:18; 20:10-15; 21:8”Iyayidesi” and “ukufa kwesibili” must both be sharply distinguished from the traditional Ndebele conception of death as transition into amadlozi (ancestral spirit-status); this is personal, final, divinely-executed judgment for the unrepentant, not a doorway into a continuing spirit-existence to be honored, feared, or consulted.Human theologian
15The Authority of Prophetic ScriptureAmandla EsiPhrofetho SikaNkulunkuluHighisiphrofetho, umphrofethi, umphrofethi wamanga, ukugcina (amazwi alesisiphrofetho), imfihlo1:3; 19:10; 22:7; 22:9-10; 22:18-19Revelation identifies itself as “isiphrofetho” demanding careful guarding and obedience (22:18-19). Biblical prophets/prophecy must be sharply distinguished from isangoma (diviner) or inyanga (traditional healer) roles; “mystery” is freely revealed truth, not esoteric power-knowledge reserved for ritual specialists.Human theologian
16Sanctification and Holiness amid CompromiseUkungcweliswa Lobungcwele Phakathi Kokuxega KokholoHigh-ngcwele, ufifi, ukuphenduka, “akungeni lutho olungcolileyo”, ukunqoba2:4-5; 2:14-16; 2:20-23; 3:1-3; 3:15-19; 21:27Calls to repent from compromise (idolatry, sexual immorality, lukewarm faith) are moral and relational holiness before uNkulunkulu; must not be reduced to ritual purity requirements comparable to those required before approaching amadlozi. “Ufifi” (lukewarm) must retain its force as provoking divine rejection, not a minor character flaw.Human theologian
17God’s Calling and Election of the RedeemedUkubizwa Lokukhethwa Kwabahlengiweyo NguNkulunkuluHighobiziweyo/ubizo, ukukhethwa, incwadi yokuphila, abazinkulungwane ezilikhulu lamatshumi amane lane7:4-8; 13:8; 17:8; 17:14; 20:12; 20:15; 21:27Names written in the book of life reflect God’s own sovereign, personal choice established before creation (17:8), not impersonal fate/destiny assigned by ancestral forces, nor a ledger of merit accumulated through correct ritual observance.Human theologian
18The Priesthood and Kingdom of BelieversUmbuso Labaphristi BabakholwayoMediumumphristi/abaphristi, umbuso kaNkulunkulu, umphostoli1:6; 5:10; 20:6; 21:14Believers’ constitution as “a kingdom and priests” is direct access and service before uNkulunkulu through Christ, not ritual mediation of unseen spiritual power comparable to izangoma or izinyanga.Native speaker review
19Mission and Witness to the NationsUmsebenzi Wokutshumayela Lobufakazi KwezizweMediumivangeli laphakade, ivangeli, ubufakazi/umfakazi, uIsrayeli5:9; 7:9; 14:6; 21:24-26The gospel’s proclamation to “every nation, tribe, language, and people” and the nations’ homage in the new Jerusalem must be taught with universal scope, avoiding any reading that privileges one ethnic or national group — a sensitivity heightened by Zimbabwe’s own Ndebele-Shona history.Native speaker review
20The Prayer and Intercession of the SaintsUmkhuleko Lokuncengela KwabangcweleMediumimpepha lemikhuleko yabangcwele, ilathi, ukuncengela, ummangaleli5:8; 6:9-10; 8:3-4The prayers of the saints presented at the heavenly altar ascend directly to God, requiring no ancestral intermediary; reinforces the baseline’s prayer doctrine drawn from Romans 8:26-27.Native speaker review

Part 2: Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrine Coverage (Full Book, Chapters 1–22)

Every chapter of Revelation is addressed below. Where a chapter introduces no new doctrine or term beyond what is already documented, this is stated explicitly rather than omitted, per the PRD full-book-coverage mandate.

Chapter 1 — Prologue and Vision of the Glorified Christ

Doctrines active: Sovereignty of God over History (#1); Deity and Eternality of Christ (#11); Return and Reign of Christ (#2); Authority of Prophetic Scripture (#15); Perseverance and Faithful Witness (#9); Priesthood and Kingdom of Believers (#18). Load-bearing terms: isAmbulo (title/genre), uSomandla, u-Alfa lo-Omega/ukuqala lokuphela, iNdodana yomuntu, isiphrofetho, ubusisiwe, iHayidesi (1:18), umphristi (1:6), umfakazi. Notes: Establishes the book’s self-identification as prophecy (1:3) and Christ’s full deity via Alpha/Omega language (1:8, 17-18) — sets the interpretive frame for the whole curriculum.

Chapters 2–3 — Letters to the Seven Churches

Doctrines active: Sanctification and Holiness amid Compromise (#16); Perseverance and Faithful Witness (#9); Exclusivity of Worship and Rejection of Idolatry (#13); God’s Calling and Election (#17, via book of life 3:5); Return and Reign of Christ (#2, morning star). Load-bearing terms: ukunqoba (overcome, repeated refrain), isihlahla sokuphila, imana efihliweyo, ilitshe elimhlophe, ukudla okuhlatshelwe izithombe, inkanyezi yekuseni, incwadi yokuphila, uAmeni, ufifi. Notes: The most concentrated cluster of pastoral/ethical vocabulary in the book; “ufifi” (lukewarm, 3:15-16) and idolatry warnings (2:14, 20) require the sharpest cultural sensitivity outside chs. 13, 18, 21-22.

Chapter 4 — The Throne Room of Heaven

Doctrines active: Sovereignty of God over History (#1); Worship of the Lamb (#4, worship of God as its foundation); Doxology and Praise (#21). Load-bearing terms: isihlalo sobukhosi, -ngcwele, izidalwa eziphilayo, abadala abangamatshumi amabili lane, udumo. Notes: Direct, unmediated heavenly worship scene — foundational imagery for the whole book’s worship theology.

Chapter 5 — The Lamb and the Scroll

Doctrines active: Worship of the Lamb (#4); Sovereignty of God over History (#1); Priesthood and Kingdom of Believers (#18); Mission and Witness to the Nations (#19, 5:9). Load-bearing terms: iWundlu, umqulu, uphawu, ufanele, ibhubesi lesizwe sakoJuda, ingoma entsha, abaphristi. Notes: Central Christological title of the book (iWundlu) is introduced here and must be consistent through ch. 22.

Chapter 6 — The Seven Seals Opened

Doctrines active: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (#6); Sovereignty of God over History (#1); Perseverance and Faithful Witness (#9, martyrs under the altar). Load-bearing terms: ulaka lweWundlu, iHayidesi (6:8), ilathi, ubufakazi. Notes: The paradox of the Lamb’s own wrath (6:16) must preserve both his sacrificial identity and judging authority.

Chapter 7 — The Sealing of the 144,000 and the Great Multitude

Doctrines active: Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (#10); God’s Calling and Election (#17); Mission and Witness to the Nations (#19); Perseverance and Faithful Witness (#9, great tribulation). Load-bearing terms: abazinkulungwane ezilikhulu lamatshumi amane lane, uphawu, inhlupheko enkulu, uIsrayeli. Notes: Symbolic numbering (144,000) paired with the universal “great multitude… from every nation” requires the interpretive caution flagged in doctrine #10.

Chapter 8 — The Seventh Seal and the First Trumpets

Doctrines active: Christ as Sole Mediator (#3); Prayer and Intercession of the Saints (#20); Sovereignty of God over History (#1). Load-bearing terms: impepha, imikhuleko yabangcwele, ilathi, icilongo, umhlonyane. Notes: 8:3-4 is one of the four cornerstone passages for the Christ-as-Sole-Mediator doctrine inherited from the Romans baseline and fulfilled here.

Chapter 9 — The Fifth and Sixth Trumpets

Doctrines active: Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (#10); Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (#6); Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan (#12, demonic locusts); Exclusivity of Worship and Rejection of Idolatry (#13, 9:20-21 idolatry/sorceries). Load-bearing terms: isikhala esijulile, uAbhadoni/uApholiyoni, abathakathi (sorceries, 9:21, first occurrence), isithombe. Notes: First appearance of “abathakathi”-related vocabulary (pharmakeia); flagged for mandatory theologian and pastoral-sensitivity review given its live social danger in contemporary Zimbabwe (also at 21:8 and 22:15).

Chapter 10 — The Angel and the Little Scroll

Doctrines active: Authority of Prophetic Scripture (#15); Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (#10); Mission and Witness to the Nations (#19, gospel proclamation implied). Load-bearing terms: imfihlo, umqulu, isiphrofetho. Notes: “Mystery” (imfihlo) here is freely revealed truth, contrasted with divination secrets — reinforces doctrine #15’s cultural caution.

Chapter 11 — The Two Witnesses and the Seventh Trumpet

Doctrines active: Perseverance and Faithful Witness (#9); Return and Reign of Christ (#2, 11:15-17); Sovereignty of God over History (#1). Load-bearing terms: abafakazi ababili, isilo (first occurrence, 11:7), icilongo, umbuso kaNkulunkulu. Notes: 11:15-17 is a key supporting passage for doctrine #1 and #2 together (announcement that the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord).

Chapter 12 — The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon

Doctrines active: Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil (#5); Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan (#12); Christ as Sole Mediator (#3, accuser-vs-intercessor contrast); Perseverance and Faithful Witness (#9, 12:11). Load-bearing terms: idrakoni, inyoka endala, uMikayeli, ummangaleli, ukunqoba, ubufakazi. Notes: 12:10-11 is a cornerstone passage for doctrine #3; the accuser/intercessor contrast is the sharpest available teaching tool against mediated-access assumptions.

Chapter 13 — The Beast from the Sea and the Beast from the Earth

Doctrines active: Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan (#12); Exclusivity of Worship and Rejection of Idolatry (#13); Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (#10); Judgment of the Wicked (#6, implied). Load-bearing terms: isilo, umphrofethi wamanga, uphawu lwesilo, inani lesilo (666). Notes: “Isilo” collision with the historical Zulu/Ndebele royal praise-title requires a mandatory standing disambiguation note at every occurrence in this chapter and elsewhere (13, 14, 15-17, 19-20).

Chapter 14 — The Lamb on Mount Zion and the Three Angels

Doctrines active: Worship of the Lamb (#4); Perseverance and Faithful Witness (#9); Mission and Witness to the Nations (#19); Judgment of the Wicked (#6). Load-bearing terms: abazinkulungwane ezilikhulu lamatshumi amane lane, ivangeli laphakade, ubusisiwe, ukuvuna, isikhamelo sewayini solaka, iBhabhiloni (first occurrence, 14:8). Notes: “Eternal gospel” (14:6) and the first Babylon-fall announcement (14:8) both carry forward into later chapters.

Chapter 15 — Preparation of the Seven Bowls

Doctrines active: Sovereignty of God over History (#1); Worship of the Lamb (#4); Judgment of the Wicked (#6, anticipatory). Load-bearing terms: isitsha, ingoma entsha (song of Moses and the Lamb), -ngcwele. Notes: No new doctrine beyond what chs. 4-5 and 14 already establish; reviewed and confirmed as reinforcing rather than introducing content.

Chapter 16 — The Seven Bowls of Wrath

Doctrines active: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (#6); Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (#10); Sovereignty of God over History (#1). Load-bearing terms: isitsha, iArmagedoni, ukuphenduka. Notes: Armageddon requires the same anti-speculative-identification caution as the millennium and 666.

Chapter 17 — The Great Prostitute and the Scarlet Beast

Doctrines active: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (#6); Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation (#10); God’s Calling and Election (#17, 17:8, 17:14). Load-bearing terms: isifebe esikhulu, isilo, incwadi yokuphila. Notes: 17:8’s book-of-life language is a key supporting passage for doctrine #17’s pre-creation election emphasis.

Chapter 18 — The Fall of Babylon

Doctrines active: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (#6); Perseverance and Faithful Witness (#9, the call to “come out of her”). Load-bearing terms: iBhabhiloni, ubufakazi (18:20, vindication of saints/apostles/prophets). Notes: No new terms beyond ch. 14 and 17’s Babylon vocabulary; reviewed and confirmed as continuation, not introduction.

Chapter 19 — The Marriage Supper of the Lamb and the Rider on the White Horse

Doctrines active: Church as Bride of Christ (#8); Worship of the Lamb (#4); Deity and Eternality of Christ (#11); Return and Reign of Christ (#2); Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan (#12); Judgment of the Wicked (#6). Load-bearing terms: Haleluya, idili lomtshado weWundlu, umlobokazi, iLizwi likaNkulunkulu, iNkosi yamakhosi, ichibi lomlilo (first occurrence). Notes: Densest single-chapter concentration of Critical-tier titles in the book (Word of God, King of Kings); 19:10’s angel-refuses-worship also reinforces doctrine #4 and #15.

Chapter 20 — The Millennium, Satan’s Final Defeat, and the Great White Throne

Doctrines active: Return and Reign of Christ (#2); Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil (#5); Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints (#6); Eternal Punishment and the Second Death (#14); God’s Calling and Election (#17). Load-bearing terms: iminyaka eyinkulungwane, ukuvuka kokuqala, isihlalo sobukhosi esikhulu esimhlophe, incwadi yokuphila, ukufa kwesibili, ichibi lomlilo. Notes: Interpretive diversity on the millennium’s structure is permitted (doctrine #10 principle); doctrinal certainty about Satan’s defeat and the reality of final judgment is not.

Chapter 21 — The New Heaven and New Earth (Core Passage, 21:1-8)

Doctrines active: New Heaven and New Earth (#7); Christ as Sole Mediator (#3, 21:3); Church as Bride of Christ (#8, 21:2, 9-10); Eternal Punishment and the Second Death (#14, 21:8); Judgment of the Wicked (#6); Sanctification and Holiness amid Compromise (#16, 21:27). Load-bearing terms: izulu elitsha lomhlaba omutsha, iJerusalema Elitsha, ukuhlala kukaNkulunkulu, amanzi okuphila, abathakathi (21:8, core-passage occurrence), amasango/izisekelo, akungeni lutho olungcolileyo. Notes: The curriculum’s theological anchor. 21:1-8 alone touches six of the 21 doctrines in this matrix; every Critical-tier term here (tabernacle-dwelling, water of life, second death, sorcerers) requires theologian sign-off before Phase 2 begins.

Chapter 22 — The River of Life and the Epilogue

Doctrines active: New Heaven and New Earth (#7); Christ as Sole Mediator (#3, 22:3-4); Deity and Eternality of Christ (#11, 22:13); Return and Reign of Christ (#2, 22:20); Authority of Prophetic Scripture (#15, 22:7, 9-10, 18-19); Eternal Punishment and the Second Death (#14, 22:15). Load-bearing terms: umfula wamanzi okuphila, isihlahla sokuphila, isiqalekiso (akusayikuba khona), “bazabona ubuso bakhe”, u-Alfa lo-Omega, “Woza, Nkosi Jesu”, ukugcina, abathakathi (22:15). Notes: Closing chapter brings the direct-access-through-Christ theme to its climax (“they will see his face,” 22:4) and closes the book’s self-referential prophetic-authority frame (22:18-19).

Part 3: Cross-Cutting Observations for Phase 2 Planning

  1. Full coverage confirmed. All 22 chapters have been reviewed. Chapters 15 and 18 introduce no new doctrines or terms beyond material already established in chapters 4–5, 14, and 17 respectively; this is noted explicitly above rather than silently skipped.
  2. Four-passage mediator thread. Doctrine #3 (Christ as Sole Mediator) is best taught as a single cross-referenced arc: 8:3-4 → 12:10-11 → 21:3 → 22:3-4. Phase 2 teaching notes should link these explicitly.
  3. Lexical collision watch-list carried forward unchanged from 08_core_glossary.md: (a) isilo (beast, chs. 11, 13, 14, 15-17, 19-20) vs. the royal praise-title iSilo; (b) iNkosi yamakhosi (ch. 19) vs. the historical Ndebele royal title iNkosi; (c) abathakathi (sorcerers, chs. 9, 21, 22) as a live, socially dangerous accusation-term.
  4. Core passage density. Revelation 21:1-8 is unusual in touching six distinct doctrines in eight verses (Critical: #3, #6, #7, #14; High: #8, #16), confirming its suitability as the curriculum’s theological anchor while underscoring why full-book context (chs. 1-20 building toward it, ch. 22 completing it) cannot be omitted.
  5. Risk-tier distribution is front- and back-loaded. Chapters 1, 12-14, and 19-22 carry the heaviest concentration of Critical-risk doctrine and terminology; chapters 2-3, 15-16, and 18 carry proportionally more High/Medium pastoral and symbolic content. Phase 2 review-routing resourcing should plan theologian availability accordingly.

This document should be read alongside doctrine_risk_registry.json (authoritative risk tiers and routing) and 08_core_glossary.md (term-level detail). It extends, and does not contradict, either.

Critical Risk Doctrines

The Sovereignty of God over History

Ndebele name: Ubukhulu bukaNkulunkulu Phezu Komlando Wonke
Key terms: god, almighty, throne, power_of_god, providence, scroll, seal
Review routing: Human theologian

uNkulunkulu’s rule over the unfolding of history through the seals, trumpets, and bowls must be taught as his own direct governance, not administered through amadlozi or impersonal fate; the throne-room visions of chapters 4-5 depict direct, personal divine rule that Ndebele readers must not read as remote or requiring ancestral mediation to access.

The Return and Reign of Jesus Christ

Ndebele name: Ukubuya Lokubusa kukaJesu Kristu
Key terms: lord, king_of_kings_lord_of_lords, word_of_god_title, millennium, come_lord_jesus, kingdom_of_god
Review routing: Human theologian

Christ’s climactic title ‘iNkosi yamakhosi’ (King of Kings) must be taught as exceeding every human king, including the historic Ndebele monarchy under Mzilikazi and Lobengula, whose royal title ‘iNkosi’ this very word evokes; his reign displaces, rather than merely joins, every worldly kingdom.

Christ as Sole Mediator (Revelation’s Fulfillment)

Ndebele name: UKristu Nguye Yedwa Umlamuli (Ukugcwaliseka KwesAmbulo)
Key terms: intercession, accuser, tabernacle_dwelling, see_his_face, incense_and_prayers
Review routing: Human theologian

Revelation supplies the fullest New Testament reinforcement of this baseline Critical doctrine: the saints’ prayers ascend directly to God (8:3-4) without ancestral intermediary; Satan’s role as accuser is deliberately contrasted with Christ’s intercession (12:10-11); and the climactic tabernacling presence and beatific vision (21:3, 22:4) depict unmediated, face-to-face fellowship with God — the definitive rebuttal to the traditional Ndebele requirement of amadlozi as go-betweens.

Worship of the Lamb

Ndebele name: Ukukhonza iWundlu
Key terms: lamb, worship, worthy, four_living_creatures, twenty_four_elders, new_song, hallelujah
Review routing: Human theologian

Worship offered exclusively to the Lamb (and to God) must be sharply distinguished from any traditional practice of animal sacrifice/slaughter offered to appease or honor amadlozi; even an angel refuses worship (19:10; 22:8-9), reinforcing that no created being — human ancestor or heavenly messenger alike — may receive the homage due to God and the Lamb alone.

Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil

Ndebele name: Isiqiniseko Sokunqoba kukaNkulunkulu Ekugcineni Phezu Kobubi
Key terms: dragon, ancient_serpent, satan, devil, overcome, lake_of_fire, hades
Review routing: Human theologian

The dragon/ancient serpent (Satan) must be taught as unambiguously evil and decisively, finally defeated — never as an ambivalent spirit-being of the kind found in some traditional serpent-spirit folklore that could be appeased, feared ritually, or negotiated with; his destruction in the lake of fire is total and permanent, grounding genuine assurance rather than continued vigilance against a still-active spiritual threat.

Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints

Ndebele name: Ukwahlulelwa Kwababi Lokuvikelwa Kwabangcwele
Key terms: book_of_life, great_white_throne, lake_of_fire, second_death, sorcerers, idolatry, testimony
Review routing: Human theologian

Final judgment, including of ‘abathakathi’ (sorcerers), must be taught as uNkulunkulu’s own righteous, personal verdict at the great white throne — never confused with fear of ancestral curses or witchcraft retribution circulating in the community, and never treated as license for believers to accuse or persecute specific individuals suspected of witchcraft in the present; that judgment belongs to God alone at the end of history.

The New Heaven and New Earth

Ndebele name: Izulu Elitsha Lomhlaba Omutsha
Key terms: new_heaven_and_new_earth, new_jerusalem, tabernacle_dwelling, water_of_life, no_more_curse, tree_of_life
Review routing: Human theologian

The renewed creation must be taught as God’s qualitative, redemptive re-creation continuous with his original purposes, not a discarded-and-replaced creation implying the first creation’s failure; the removal of the curse (22:3) is a powerful, positive point of contact with deep-seated Ndebele fear of ancestral or witchcraft curses, but must retain its full cosmic scope (reversal of Genesis 3), not be narrowed only to that cultural fear.

The Deity and Eternality of Christ

Ndebele name: Ubunkulunkulu Lokungapheliyo kukaKristu
Key terms: alpha_and_omega, son_of_man, word_of_god_title, son_of_god, amen_title
Review routing: Human theologian

The title ‘Alpha and Omega’ applied to both God (1:8) and Christ (22:13) must be taught as affirming Christ’s full, co-equal deity; because the transliterated Greek letters carry no independent meaning in Ndebele, the accompanying phrase ‘ukuqala lokuphela’ (beginning and end) must always be retained so the doctrinal weight is not lost.

Spiritual Warfare and the Defeat of Satan

Ndebele name: Impi Yomoya Lokwahlulwa kukaSathane
Key terms: dragon, ancient_serpent, satan, devil, beast, false_prophet, michael
Review routing: Human theologian

Satan, the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet must all be taught as personal, defeated, created enemies of God — never conflated with amadlozi, and never treated as spirit-categories that traditional ritual specialists (izangoma, izinyanga) might helpfully manage, appease, or negotiate with; the church’s weapons against them are the blood of the Lamb and faithful testimony (12:11), not ritual counter-measures.

The Exclusivity of Worship and Rejection of Idolatry

Ndebele name: Ukukhonza uNkulunkulu Yedwa Lokwala Ukukhonza Izithombe
Key terms: worship, idolatry, food_sacrificed_to_idols, mark_of_the_beast, great_prostitute
Review routing: Human theologian

Warnings against idolatry and beast-worship must be taught alongside real cultural parallels in Ndebele society — food ritually offered in ancestral ceremonies, veneration of ancestral images or objects — without either overstating the parallel (equating all Ndebele custom with beast-worship) or understating the seriousness of the divided worship Revelation condemns.

Eternal Punishment and the Second Death

Ndebele name: Isijeziso Esingapheliyo Lokufa Kwesibili
Key terms: hades, lake_of_fire, second_death, book_of_life, sorcerers
Review routing: Human theologian

‘Iyayidesi’ (the intermediate realm of the dead) and ‘ukufa kwesibili’ (the second death) must both be sharply distinguished from the traditional Ndebele conception of death as transition into amadlozi (ancestral spirit-status); this is a personal, final, divinely-executed judgment for the unrepentant, not a doorway into a continuing spirit-existence to be honored, feared, or consulted by the living.

High Risk Doctrines

The Church as Bride of Christ

Ndebele name: Ibandla Njengomlobokazi kaKristu
Key terms: bride, marriage_supper_of_the_lamb, new_jerusalem, church
Review routing: Human theologian

‘Umlobokazi’ (bride) carries strong positive resonance in Ndebele marriage custom (a bride prepared and adorned for her husband), an asset when taught rightly, but must be anchored to Christ as the singular, faithful Bridegroom of the corporate Church — not polygynous custom, and not any individual believer romantically paired with Christ.

Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution

Ndebele name: Ukubekezela Lobufakazi Obuthembekileyo Ngesikhathi Sokuhlukuluzwa
Key terms: overcome, testimony, two_witnesses, great_tribulation, perseverance, blessed
Review routing: Human theologian

Victory (‘ukunqoba’) and endurance (‘ukubekezela’) must be taught as flowing from Christ’s own triumph and sustained hope in his return, not personal willpower, ritual protection, or fatalistic resignation to suffering as traditionally understood in relation to ancestral displeasure or misfortune.

The Authority of Prophetic Scripture

Ndebele name: Amandla EsiPhrofetho SikaNkulunkulu
Key terms: prophecy, prophet, false_prophet, keep_the_prophecy, mystery
Review routing: Human theologian

This book identifies itself as ‘isiphrofetho’ (prophecy) demanding careful guarding and obedience (22:18-19); biblical prophets and prophecy must be sharply distinguished from isangoma (diviner) or inyanga (traditional healer) roles, and biblical ‘mystery’ taught as freely revealed truth, not esoteric power-knowledge reserved for ritual specialists.

Sanctification and Holiness amid Compromise

Ndebele name: Ukungcweliswa Lobungcwele Phakathi Kokuxega Kokholo
Key terms: holy, lukewarm, repent, nothing_unclean_enters, overcome
Review routing: Human theologian

The letters to the seven churches call for genuine repentance from compromise (idolatry, sexual immorality, lukewarm faith) as moral and relational holiness before uNkulunkulu; must not be reduced to ritual purity requirements comparable to those required before approaching amadlozi, and ‘ufifi’ (lukewarm) must retain its force as provoking divine rejection, not a minor character flaw.

God’s Calling and Election of the Redeemed

Ndebele name: Ukubizwa Lokukhethwa Kwabahlengiweyo NguNkulunkulu
Key terms: called, calling, election, book_of_life, hundred_forty_four_thousand
Review routing: Human theologian

Names written in the book of life reflect God’s own sovereign, personal choice established before creation (17:8), not an impersonal fate or destiny assigned by ancestral forces, nor a ledger of merit accumulated through correct ritual observance.

Medium Risk Doctrines

Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation

Ndebele name: Indlela Yokutolika Imifanekiso LesAmbulo
Key terms: apocalypse, hundred_forty_four_thousand, number_of_the_beast, armageddon, mystery, seal
Review routing: Native speaker review

The whole book’s genre as ‘isAmbulo’ (unveiling) must frame teaching so symbolic numbers, beasts, and place-names (144,000, 666, Armageddon, the millennium) are read according to their apocalyptic communicative function, not flat literalism or speculative modern-day identification, while the underlying doctrinal certainties they convey are not softened.

The Priesthood and Kingdom of Believers

Ndebele name: Umbuso Labaphristi Babakholwayo
Key terms: priest, kingdom_of_god, apostle
Review routing: Native speaker review

Believers’ constitution as ‘a kingdom and priests’ must be taught as direct access and service before uNkulunkulu through Christ, not ritual mediation of unseen spiritual power comparable to izangoma or izinyanga.

Mission and Witness to the Nations

Ndebele name: Umsebenzi Wokutshumayela Lobufakazi Kwezizwe
Key terms: eternal_gospel, gospel, testimony, israel
Review routing: Native speaker review

The gospel’s proclamation to ‘every nation, tribe, language, and people’ and the nations’ healing/homage in the new Jerusalem must be taught with universal scope, avoiding any reading that privileges one ethnic or national group, a sensitivity heightened by Zimbabwe’s own history of Ndebele-Shona ethnic tension.

The Prayer and Intercession of the Saints

Ndebele name: Umkhuleko Lokuncengela Kwabangcwele
Key terms: incense_and_prayers, altar, intercession, accuser
Review routing: Native speaker review

The prayers of the saints presented at the heavenly altar ascend directly to God, requiring no ancestral intermediary to carry them; reinforces the baseline’s prayer doctrine drawn from Romans 8:26-27.

Low Risk Doctrines

Doxology and Praise in the Heavenly Worship

Ndebele name: Ukudunyiswa Lokubongwa Kwezulwini
Key terms: hallelujah, new_song, thanksgiving, worthy
Review routing: Automated review

Standard, low-ambiguity doxological and thanksgiving vocabulary already well established in Ndebele Bible tradition; low doctrinal risk beyond consistency of already-established terms.
