Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis — Ephesians (Full Book, Chapters 1–6)
Purpose
This document presents the complete doctrine matrix for Ephesians, chapter by chapter, cross-referenced against the curriculum’s nine designated doctrines and fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json (same doctrine keys, same risk tiers, same review routing). Ephesians 2:1–10 is the theological anchor of the curriculum but every chapter (1–6) is analyzed in full; chapters or sections contributing no new doctrinal load are explicitly marked “reviewed — no new doctrine load” rather than omitted.
Risk tiers and review routing follow the baseline Romans doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions, carried forward unchanged:
- Critical — mistranslation destroys essential doctrine → Human theologian review, every occurrence.
- High — significant theological confusion/syncretism risk → Human theologian review.
- Medium — reduces clarity but preserves essential meaning → Native speaker review.
- Low — minor imprecision → Automated review.

Chapter 1 (Ephesians 1:1–23) — Blessing, Election, and the Supremacy of Christ
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| deity_and_lordship_of_christ | 1:2-3, 1:17, 1:20-21 | Critical | 主 must retain exclusive divine Lordship; never a political-loyalty or employer-employee reading. | Human theologian |
| election_and_predestination | 1:4-5, 1:11 | Critical | 揀選/預定 must read as a personal, loving, pre-temporal choice of a relational God, never birth-chart fatalism (八字) or impersonal 命中注定. | Human theologian |
| adoption_into_gods_family | 1:5 | High | 兒子嘅名分 must convey full inheritance-bearing sonship, not clan-succession adoption (過繼) or temple “godson” dedication (認契仔). | Human theologian |
| redemption_and_forgiveness | 1:7, 1:14 | High | 救贖 must be a once-for-all historical payment for the living believer, distinct from Yu Lan Festival “netherworld debt” ritual payment (陰債, 燒街衣) for the deceased. | Human theologian |
| salvation_by_grace | 1:7 (introduces 恩典 as the letter’s key term, developed fully in ch.2) | Critical | Establishes 恩典 as unearned favor; must not anticipate a vow-and-offering framing later contradicted in 2:8-9. | Human theologian |
| the_mystery_of_christ | 1:9 | Critical | 奧秘 must be understood as previously hidden knowledge now openly revealed to all — the inverse of fee-gated/initiate-only esoteric knowledge (密宗, 風水秘訣). | Human theologian |
| glory_and_praise_of_god | 1:6, 1:12, 1:14 | Medium | 榮耀 must never reduce to 面子 (face) or 威水 (flashy success); “riches” language anticipates 2:7’s caution against prosperity-framing. | Native speaker review |
| church_as_body_of_christ | 1:22-23 | Medium | 身體 as organic Spirit-united whole, not a merely administrative membership category. | Native speaker review |
| headship_of_christ | 1:22 | High | 元首 as life-giving supreme authority for the church’s good — sets the template later intensified to Critical in 5:23. | Human theologian |
| holy_spirit_personhood | 1:13 (sealing with the Spirit) | Critical | 印記 (seal) must be a relational ownership-guarantee, not a protective talisman (平安符); 聖靈 always full compound. | Human theologian |
Chapter 1 summary: Every Ephesians-specific Critical-risk doctrine except spiritual warfare and Christ-centered marriage is already introduced in chapter 1; this is the highest doctrinal density chapter in the book alongside chapter 2.
Chapter 2 (Ephesians 2:1–22) — Core Passage: Dead in Sin, Alive by Grace, and United in One New Humanity
Ephesians 2:1–10 is the curriculum’s theological anchor. Full-chapter coverage extends through 2:11–22 (Jew/Gentile unity), which is doctrinally load-bearing and must not be treated as secondary.
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| total_spiritual_deadness | 2:1-3 | High | 死 requires the “靈裡” qualifier; without it, defaults to ancestor-death/Yu Lan associative frames rather than a living person cut off from God’s life. | Human theologian |
| divine_wrath_and_universal_guilt | 2:3 | High | Must avoid collapsing into karmic-retribution framing (報應) or birth-chart bad luck (八字); this is inherited universal guilt, not proportional payback. | Human theologian |
| salvation_by_grace | 2:4-5, 2:7-9 | Critical | Thesis statement of the letter; 恩典/救恩/信心/行為 must together preserve grace as entirely apart from any vow-and-offering exchange (cf. Wong Tai Sin’s “有求必應”). Requires identical cross-document rendering per baseline consistency mandate. | Human theologian |
| faith_as_instrument | 2:8 | High | 信心 rendered instrumentally (藉住/憑住), never causally (“because of”), to avoid making faith itself a meritorious work. | Human theologian |
| good_works_as_fruit_of_grace | 2:9-10 | Critical | Highest adjacency-risk doctrine in the letter: 善行 (2:10) sits immediately beside 2:9’s total exclusion of 行為; Hong Kong’s merit-accumulation (功德) and vow-fulfillment (還神還願) patterns would naturally invert Paul’s order. Every occurrence requires an explicit fruit-not-root note. | Human theologian |
| unity_of_jews_and_gentiles | 2:11-22 | High | Must convey the barrier abolished, not merely lowered, and a genuinely new corporate humanity (一個新人) created — not a Jew-Gentile merger; retains baseline caution against clan-outsider idiom (外江佬, 鄉下人). | Human theologian |
| reconciliation_through_the_cross | 2:14-18 | High | 復和 distinct from village-elder-brokered truce (講和); achieved once, objectively, at the cross — ground, not model, for human reconciliation. 親近 (access) must not imply a ritual intermediary. | Human theologian |
| church_as_gods_dwelling | 2:19-22 | Medium | 聖殿 metaphor for the Spirit-indwelt corporate church; never compared to actual Hong Kong temple architecture. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 2 summary: The single highest-density chapter for Critical-risk doctrine (salvation_by_grace, good_works_as_fruit_of_grace) and the anchor for the letter’s central soteriological and ecclesial argument.
Chapter 3 (Ephesians 3:1–21) — Paul’s Stewardship of the Mystery
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| the_mystery_of_christ | 3:3-6, 3:9 | Critical | Fullest exposition of 奧秘 in the letter: openly revealed to Gentiles and Jews alike through the apostles/prophets — structurally opposite to esoteric, fee-gated, initiate-only knowledge systems prominent in Hong Kong (密宗, 風水秘訣, fortune-telling consultation fees). | Human theologian |
| unity_of_jews_and_gentiles | 3:6 | High | Gentiles as “fellow heirs” — reinforces ch.2’s caution against any residual insider/outsider hierarchy. | Human theologian |
| faith_as_instrument | 3:12, 3:17 | High | 信心/親近 — bold, direct access to God through faith in Christ; consistent instrumental rendering. | Human theologian |
| glory_and_praise_of_god | 3:21 | Medium | Doxological close; 榮耀 consistent with ch.1 caution. | Native speaker review |
| church_as_body_of_christ | 3:6 (implicit, “fellow heirs, members of the same body”) | Medium | Reinforces organic-unity framing established in ch.1. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 3 summary: Functions as the theological hinge of the letter (doctrine to prayer); no new doctrine categories are introduced beyond intensified treatment of the mystery and Jew-Gentile unity already flagged.
Chapter 4 (Ephesians 4:1–32) — One Body, Many Gifts, and the New Self
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| effectual_calling | 4:1, 4:4 | High | 呼召 as personal summons from a personal God, never impersonal fate/coincidence (命運/緣分). | Human theologian |
| unity_of_the_spirit | 4:3-6 | Medium | 合一 distinguished from state-promoted secular “harmony” (和諧); source is one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism — objective shared realities. | Native speaker review |
| gifts_for_building_up_the_church | 4:7-13 | Medium | Gifted persons/offices (4:11) must be flagged distinct from individual-ability χαρίσματα (baseline 屬靈恩賜) — Christ’s gift of people to the church, not the Spirit’s distribution of abilities to individuals. | Native speaker review |
| church_as_body_of_christ | 4:4, 4:12, 4:16 | Medium | Continues organic-unity metaphor; body imagery must not flatten into institutional membership. | Native speaker review |
| headship_of_christ | 4:15 | High | Christ as the Head from whom the whole body grows — consistent with ch.1’s life-giving authority framing. | Human theologian |
| mutual_edification | 4:12, 4:16, 4:29 | Low | Standard, low-collision term; corresponds directly to baseline Romans “mutual_edification.” | Automated review |
| sanctification_and_newness_of_life | 4:17-24 | High | 舊人/新人 distinguished from the secular idiom 重新做人 (self-willed reform of an offender) and from Confucian self-cultivation-to-sagehood (君子/聖人); this is Spirit-wrought new creation. | Human theologian |
| walking_worthy | 4:1, 4:17 | Medium | 行事為人 recurring lifestyle-conduct motif; must render consistently across all six occurrences in the letter. | Native speaker review |
| holy_spirit_personhood | 4:30 (“grieve the Spirit”) | Critical | Strong positive proof-text for the Spirit’s personhood — reinforces baseline Critical caution against an impersonal life-force reading. | Human theologian |
| good_works_as_fruit_of_grace | 4:28 | Critical | ”Let him labor, doing honest work” — must not be read as merit-earning; consistent with 2:9-10’s fruit-not-root framing. | Human theologian |
Chapter 4 summary: Second-highest doctrinal density chapter; introduces the ecclesial-gifts and sanctification doctrines fully, while reinforcing earlier Critical terms (Spirit’s personhood, good works).
Chapter 5 (Ephesians 5:1–33) — Walking in Light, Filled with the Spirit, Christ and the Church
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| walking_worthy | 5:2, 5:8, 5:15 | Medium | 光/黑暗 metaphor kept moral-spiritual; must not accidentally evoke the temple idol-consecration ritual 開光 (“opening the light”). | Native speaker review |
| holy_spirit_personhood | 5:18 (“filled with the Spirit”) | Critical | Must be distinguished from trance/possession states associated with Hong Kong spirit-mediumship (問米) or spirit-writing practice — ongoing, sober, fruit-producing empowerment. | Human theologian |
| household_codes_mutual_submission | 5:21 | High | Governing mutuality-verse for the whole household-code passage; must not be dropped, or the following instructions default to a unidirectional Confucian hierarchy (夫為妻綱) reading. | Human theologian |
| christ_centered_marriage | 5:22-33 | Critical | 元首 applied to the husband is the single highest-stakes household-relationship term in the letter; MUST be bounded by Christ’s self-sacrificial love (5:25) within the mutual-submission frame (5:21); “mystery” (5:32) must not be conflated with Chinese marriage-matching astrology (合婚). | Human theologian |
| headship_of_christ | 5:23 (applied/intensified) | High | Same headship concept as 1:22/4:15, now applied to the husband-wife relationship with heightened collision risk. | Human theologian |
| church_as_body_of_christ | 5:23, 5:30 | Medium | Church as Christ’s body/bride — organic union, not institutional metaphor alone. | Native speaker review |
| the_mystery_of_christ | 5:32 | Critical | Marriage as a picture of the Christ-church mystery; must retain the “previously hidden, now revealed” structure, not an esoteric or fortune-telling framing. | Human theologian |
Chapter 5 summary: Contains the letter’s most doctrinally sensitive household-code material; christ_centered_marriage is elevated to Critical specifically because of direct overlap with the Confucian Three Cardinal Guides (三綱) and contemporary Hong Kong gender-equality sensitivities.
Chapter 6 (Ephesians 6:1–24) — Household Codes Continued, Spiritual Warfare, and Closing Prayer
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages | Risk | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| parent_child_relationships | 6:1-4 | High | 孝敬 sits on top of the Confucian filial-piety concept; must be explicitly re-grounded “in the Lord” (6:1), not filial duty as an independent good. | Human theologian |
| servant_master_relationships | 6:5-9 | High | 主人 (human master) sharply disambiguated from 主 (Christ’s exclusive Lordship) via compound phrasing; requires pastoral sensitivity given Hong Kong’s foreign domestic helper population and 6:9’s mutual heavenly accountability. | Human theologian |
| deity_and_lordship_of_christ | 6:1, 6:4-9 (implicit “in the Lord” framing throughout) | Critical | 主 consistency check across the household-code section; never confused with 主人. | Human theologian |
| spiritual_warfare | 2:2 (ruler of the power of the air), 6:10-12 | Critical | Highest spiritual-warfare collision-risk doctrine in the curriculum: real, personal, organized evil beings under Satan’s single defeated headship — never a feng shui remedy, protective talisman, Yu Lan-period ritual, or folk exorcism practice. | Human theologian |
| armor_of_god | 6:13-17 | Medium | 全副軍裝 strictly metaphorical spiritual equipping; avoid conflation with protective-amulet culture (平安符). | Native speaker review |
| prayer_in_the_spirit | 6:18-20 | Medium | 禱告/代求 distinguished from drawing a temple fortune-stick (求籤) on one’s own or another’s behalf. | Native speaker review |
Chapter 6 summary: Closes the household-code section (parent-child, servant-master) and delivers the letter’s dedicated spiritual-warfare doctrine — the second Critical-risk doctrine, alongside christ_centered_marriage, introduced for the first time only in the second half of the book.

Critical Risk Doctrines
Salvation by Grace through Faith
Cantonese name: 因信靠恩典得救
Key terms: grace, faith, salvation, works, gift
Review routing: Human theologian
恩典 must never be framed as Wong Tai Sin-style vow-and-offering reciprocity (‘有求必應’); 行為 (works) is entirely excluded as salvation’s basis, directly contradicting Hong Kong’s merit-accumulation (功德) and vow-fulfillment (還神還願) religious patterns. Ephesians 2:8-9 is the letter’s thesis statement and requires identical cross-document rendering per the baseline’s consistency mandate for high-use passages.
Election and Predestination in Christ
Cantonese name: 在基督裡蒙揀選同預定
Key terms: election, predestined
Review routing: Human theologian
預定 intensifies the baseline ‘election’ caution — Cantonese hearers steeped in birth-chart astrology (八字) and almanac fatalism (命中注定, 運程) will very readily assimilate ‘predestined’ into an impersonal-fate reading rather than the personal, loving, pre-temporal decision of a relational God ‘according to the purpose of his will.‘
The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Cantonese name: 基督嘅奧秘已經顯明
Key terms: mystery, wisdom_and_revelation
Review routing: Human theologian
Hong Kong religious/commercial life is saturated with ‘secret knowledge reserved for initiates’ frameworks — esoteric/tantric Buddhist practice (密宗, 密咒), proprietary feng shui trade secrets (風水秘訣), fortune-telling’s fee-gated knowledge. Biblical mystery is the opposite structure: previously hidden, now openly and freely proclaimed to everyone. Highest single collision-risk doctrine in the letter.
Personhood of the Holy Spirit
Cantonese name: 聖靈係有位格嘅神
Key terms: holy_spirit, grieve_spirit, filled_with_spirit, sealed
Review routing: Human theologian
‘Grieve the Spirit’ (4:30) is a strong positive proof-text that the Spirit is a personal being capable of emotional response to sin, reinforcing the baseline’s Critical-risk insistence that 聖靈 is never an impersonal life-force; ‘filled with the Spirit’ (5:18) must be distinguished from trance/possession states associated with Hong Kong folk spirit-mediumship (問米) or spirit-writing practice.
Christ-Centered Marriage and Headship
Cantonese name: 以基督為中心嘅婚姻同元首身份
Key terms: headship, mystery, submit_to_one_another
Review routing: Human theologian
元首 applied to the husband is the single highest-stakes household-relationship term in the letter — it directly overlaps with the Confucian Three Cardinal Guides’ husband-wife hierarchy and with contemporary Hong Kong gender-equality sensitivities. Teaching MUST foreground that headship here is defined and limited by Christ’s self-sacrificial love (5:25) within the mutual-submission principle of 5:21, never unilateral authoritarian rule; marriage as ‘mystery’ (5:32) must not be conflated with traditional Chinese marriage-matching astrology (合婚).
Spiritual Warfare against Cosmic Powers
Cantonese name: 對抗天空之上邪靈嘅屬靈爭戰
Key terms: rulers_authorities_powers, devil, ruler_of_power_of_air
Review routing: Human theologian
The single highest spiritual-warfare collision-risk doctrine in the curriculum, given Hong Kong’s extensive active folk engagement with the unseen spiritual realm — feng shui remedies against malevolent forces, ghost-month (盂蘭節) taboos and rituals, temple protective deities invoked to ward off evil spirits, and Daoist talisman/exorcism practice. Teaching MUST make unmistakably clear these are real personal evil beings under Satan’s single defeated headship, already subordinated to Christ’s authority (1:20-21), engaged only through prayer and the armor of God — never feng shui remedy, protective talisman, or folk exorcism ritual.
Deity and Exclusive Lordship of Christ
Cantonese name: 基督嘅神性同獨一主權
Key terms: lord, son_of_god, jesus, resurrection
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuse of baseline caution — 主 must convey exclusive, supreme Lordship, never an employer-employee title (事頭) or feudal honorific (老爺); given Hong Kong’s political context, keep Christ’s Lordship doctrinal, not a political-loyalty statement, per baseline instruction for kingdom/Lordship passages.
Good Works as the Fruit, Never the Root, of Grace
Cantonese name: 善行係恩典嘅果子唔係恩典嘅根源
Key terms: works, good_works, workmanship, created_new_creation
Review routing: Human theologian
The single highest-stakes adjacency-risk doctrine in the letter — 善行 sits immediately next to 2:9’s total exclusion of 行為 (works) as salvation’s basis, yet Hong Kong’s dominant folk-religious transactional patterns (merit-accumulation 功德, temple vow-fulfillment 還神還願) would naturally assimilate this into a ‘do good, get grace’ reading, the precise inversion Paul forbids. Every occurrence must carry an explicit note that these good works are the result of grace already given, never a means of earning further grace, blessing, or salvation.
High Risk Doctrines
Faith as the Instrument, Not the Merit, of Salvation
Cantonese name: 信心作為得救嘅途徑
Key terms: faith
Review routing: Human theologian
信心 must be rendered as instrumental (‘through/by means of,’ 藉住/憑住), never causal (‘because of’), to avoid implying faith itself is a meritorious work; also must be distinguished from the confidence Hong Kong culture commonly places in fortune-telling/palm-reading (睇相算命), per baseline caution.
Total Spiritual Deadness Prior to Grace
Cantonese name: 未蒙恩典前靈裡完全死咗
Key terms: spiritually_dead, transgressions, sin, flesh
Review routing: Human theologian
Rendering 死 without the ‘靈裡’ qualifier risks default assimilation into Hong Kong’s ancestor-death and Yu Lan/Ghost Festival associative frames (spirits of the dead needing ritual help), rather than conveying a living person cut off from God’s life.
Universal Guilt and God’s Wrath by Nature
Cantonese name: 全人類本性都應受神忿怒
Key terms: children_of_wrath, sin
Review routing: Human theologian
Risk of collapsing into karmic-retribution framing (報應, already flagged under baseline ‘sin’) suggesting wrath is proportional payback for accumulated deeds, or into birth-chart fatalism (八字) suggesting some people are simply born unlucky — both misrepresent an inherited condition of guilt that grace alone remedies.
Effectual Calling
Cantonese name: 有效嘅呼召
Key terms: calling
Review routing: Human theologian
Reuse of baseline caution: calling is a personal summons from a personal God, never impersonal fate/coincidence (命運/緣分), a very common concept in Cantonese popular idiom.
Adoption into God’s Family
Cantonese name: 喺神嘅家庭入面得兒子嘅名分
Key terms: adoption
Review routing: Human theologian
Same Greek word as Romans 8:15; retain baseline caution distinguishing from clan-succession adoption (過繼, tied to ancestor-worship continuation obligations) and the folk custom of dedicating a child as a temple deity’s ‘godson’ (認契仔).
Redemption and Forgiveness through Christ’s Blood
Cantonese name: 靠基督嘅血得贖罪同赦免
Key terms: redemption, forgiveness
Review routing: Human theologian
救贖 must be distinguished from Hong Kong Yu Lan/Ghost Festival ritual ‘netherworld debt’ payment practices (陰債, 燒街衣 paper-money burning for the deceased) — this is a once-for-all historical payment for the living believer’s guilt, not a repeatable ritual transaction on behalf of the departed.
Headship of Christ over the Church
Cantonese name: 基督係教會嘅元首
Key terms: headship
Review routing: Human theologian
元首 applied to Christ must convey life-giving, supreme authority exercised for the church’s good, not a merely positional command structure — this sets the template later intensified to Critical risk in the household-code application (5:23).
Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Cantonese name: 猶太人同外邦人在基督裡合一
Key terms: gentiles, dividing_wall, reconciliation, one_new_humanity
Review routing: Human theologian
Directly challenges any lingering local/outsider or clan-based hierarchy (baseline caution against 外江佬/鄉下人); must translate with theological clarity that the barrier is abolished, not merely lowered, and that a genuinely new corporate humanity — not a Jew-Gentile merger — has been created.
Reconciliation through the Cross
Cantonese name: 靠十字架成就嘅復和
Key terms: reconciliation, access
Review routing: Human theologian
復和 must be distinguished from ordinary village-elder-brokered interpersonal truce (講和); this reconciliation — both vertical (to God) and horizontal (Jew-Gentile) — is achieved once, objectively, through the cross, and is the ground, not merely a model, for human reconciliation. 親近 (access) must not imply the need for a ritual intermediary (temple priest, 問米 medium).
Sanctification and Putting on the New Self
Cantonese name: 成聖同穿上新人
Key terms: old_self_new_self, renewed, holy, flesh
Review routing: Human theologian
舊人/新人 must be distinguished from the secular Cantonese idiom 重新做人 (‘turning over a new leaf,’ used of reformed offenders), which implies self-willed moral reform rather than a Spirit-wrought new creation; also carries the Confucian self-cultivation (君子/聖人 attainment) collision already flagged in the baseline ‘sanctification’ entry.
Mutual Submission as the Frame for Household Relationships
Cantonese name: 存敬畏基督嘅心彼此順服
Key terms: submit_to_one_another
Review routing: Human theologian
This governing mutuality-verse is the essential interpretive key for the household-code passage that follows; without it, the wife/husband instructions are easily misread through the lens of the Confucian Three Cardinal Guides (三綱, esp. 夫為妻綱, ‘the husband is the guiding principle of the wife’) as one-directional hierarchical command rather than Christ-patterned mutual self-giving.
Parent-Child Relationships in the Lord
Cantonese name: 在主裡嘅父母子女關係
Key terms: honor_parents, obey_children
Review routing: Human theologian
孝敬 sits directly on top of the Confucian filial-piety concept (孝順/孝敬), broadly compatible in surface content but must be explicitly re-grounded ‘in the Lord’ (6:1) — obedience is owed as an expression of obedience to Christ, not to parental authority as an independent good.
Servant-Master Relationships under a Common Heavenly Master
Cantonese name: 僕人主人同有一位天上嘅主人
Key terms: servant, master, lord
Review routing: Human theologian
主人 (human master) must be sharply disambiguated from 主 (the baseline Critical-risk term for Christ’s exclusive Lordship) via compound phrasing, so readers never confuse an earthly master with Christ; given Hong Kong’s large, socially significant foreign domestic helper population, this passage requires pastoral sensitivity, historically contextualizing first-century slavery while stressing 6:9’s mutual accountability principle and never using it to excuse contemporary labor exploitation.
Medium Risk Doctrines
The Church as the Body of Christ
Cantonese name: 教會係基督嘅身體
Key terms: church, body_of_christ, fullness
Review routing: Native speaker review
身體 must be an organic, Spirit-united metaphor, not a merely organizational/institutional membership category, and 教會 must never be conflated with a folk/Daoist/Buddhist temple (廟) or clan ancestral hall (祠堂) per baseline caution.
The Church as God’s Dwelling Place
Cantonese name: 教會係神藉住聖靈同住嘅聖殿
Key terms: temple_dwelling_place, household_of_god, cornerstone
Review routing: Native speaker review
聖殿 is a metaphor for the corporate, Spirit-indwelt people of God and must never be compared favorably or unfavorably to actual Hong Kong temple architecture (Wong Tai Sin, Man Mo Temple), which the baseline already forbids for ‘church’ (廟).
Gifts for Building Up the Church
Cantonese name: 建立教會嘅恩賜
Key terms: gifts_offices, evangelist, pastor, teacher, build_up_edify
Review routing: Native speaker review
Ephesians 4:11’s gifted persons/offices (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers) must be flagged distinct from individual-ability χαρίσματα (baseline 屬靈恩賜) to avoid conflating ‘Christ’s gift of certain people to the church’ with ‘the Spirit’s distribution of abilities to individuals.‘
Unity of the Spirit in the Church
Cantonese name: 聖靈所賜嘅合一
Key terms: unity, baptism, holy_spirit
Review routing: Native speaker review
合一 must be distinguished from the state-promoted secular value of social harmony (和諧) common in Chinese-language public discourse; biblical unity’s source is the one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism — objective shared realities, not administrative or social conformity.
Walking Worthy of the Calling
Cantonese name: 行事為人配得上所蒙嘅呼召
Key terms: walk_conduct, light_darkness
Review routing: Native speaker review
行事為人 is a recurring lifestyle-conduct motif that must be rendered consistently across all six occurrences (2:2,10; 4:1,17; 5:2,8,15); the 光 metaphor must be kept moral-spiritual, not accidentally evocative of the temple idol-consecration ritual 開光 (‘opening the light’).
The Armor of God
Cantonese name: 神所賜嘅全副軍裝
Key terms: armor_of_god, schemes, struggle_wrestle
Review routing: Native speaker review
全副軍裝 must be clearly a metaphor for spiritual readiness (truth, righteousness, faith, gospel, salvation, the Spirit’s word), never read as a literal protective charm — avoid conflation with Hong Kong’s protective-amulet culture (平安符, already flagged in the baseline under ‘peace’).
Prayer and Intercession in the Spirit
Cantonese name: 靠住聖靈禱告代求
Key terms: prayer, intercession
Review routing: Native speaker review
禱告 must be distinguished from drawing a temple fortune-stick (求籤) on one’s own or another’s behalf, per the caution already documented under the baseline ‘intercession’ entry.
The Glory and Praise of God in Redemption
Cantonese name: 神在救贖入面嘅榮耀
Key terms: glory, blessed_blessing, riches_of_grace
Review routing: Native speaker review
榮耀 must never be reduced to 面子 (face) or 威水 (flashy success), per baseline caution; ‘riches’ language (2:7) must be read as spiritual, not material, abundance, given Hong Kong’s prosperity-luck culture (恭喜發財, 福氣) already flagged under baseline ‘grace.‘
Low Risk Doctrines
