Core Glossary
Core Glossary: 1 Peter — English → Kashmiri
Purpose
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md across all five chapters of 1 Peter, citing chapter/verse locations. Terms already present in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked [BASELINE REUSE] and carry their recorded rendering and risk tier forward unchanged. All other terms are [NEW — 1 Peter] and are proposed here for addition to translation memory (to be formally merged in the Phase 1 Step 8 deliverable). Script, transliteration conventions, and risk-tier definitions follow the baseline package exactly (Critical/High = human theologian review; Medium = native speaker review; Low = automated review).

Cross-Cutting Risk Notes for Phase 2 Enforcement
- کاہِن / کاہِنی (priest/priesthood) family (#35, #36) is the single highest-density new risk cluster in this curriculum — every occurrence of “priesthood” language must carry the Quran 52:29/69:42 soothsayer-distinction teaching note.
- تابعداری (submission) family (#42), recurring at 2:13, 2:18, 3:1, 3:22, and 5:5, must carry the taslīm/Islam-root distinction at every single occurrence, not merely at first use, given how foundational the submission theme is structurally to the whole letter.
- قید منز روحن باپت اِعلان (proclamation to spirits, #53) together with its immediately surrounding terms (#54-56) forms a single tightly-linked interpretive unit (3:18-22) that should be routed as one combined review package to a human theologian, given the passage’s unusual internal complexity even within Christian scholarship.
- عاجزی (humility, #66) must be distinguished from two separate frames (Sufi fana and Trika ego-dissolution), each requiring its own explicit teaching sentence — do not merge into a single generic caution.
- نو وِلادت (born again, #30) must never be rendered with جنم (janam) under any circumstance, mirroring in severity the baseline’s forbidden-substitution conventions (اوتار, روح القدس bare, شکتی پات).
- All لازوال / نافانی (#3, #5, #65) occurrences must remain verbally consistent across 1:4, 1:18, 1:23, and 5:4 to preserve Peter’s intentional structural echoes across the letter.
This glossary extends, and must be merged into, the baseline translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json before Phase 2 segment translation begins on 1 Peter. See analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md for full verse-level argumentation supporting each entry.
Critical Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: فضل
Transliteration: faz’l
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: شکتی پات (Shaktipat, Kashmir Shaivite descent of divine power/grace, never a substitute), رحم (mercy, supporting synonym only, never a replacement)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:2, 1:10, 1:13, 3:7, 4:10, 5:5, 5:10, 5:12. Must never collapse into Islamic deeds-weighed mercy or Kashmir Shaivite shaktipat framing at any occurrence, including 4:10’s ‘varied grace’ and 5:10’s closing ‘God of all grace’ doxology.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: راستبازی
Transliteration: rāstbāzī
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: تقویٰ (piety/God-consciousness, works-oriented, rejected)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 2:24, 3:14, 3:18. In 1 Peter this is the already-granted forensic righteousness being lived out and consequently opposed (3:14), not suffering earned as payment toward righteousness — inverting this would collapse the baseline’s justification doctrine.
Salvation
Approved rendering: نجات
Transliteration: najāt
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: جنت (paradise as destination, never a stand-alone gloss), موکش (moksha, never for Shaivite readers), پرتیبھِجنا (pratyabhijna, self-recognition, never a substitute)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:5, 1:9, 1:10, 2:2, 3:21, 4:18; must be rendered identically at every occurrence per the baseline’s cross-document consistency rule.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: مُردٕن پؠٹھ زندٕ تھِیُن
Transliteration: murdan pyeṭh zinda thyun
Doctrine: The Living Hope of the Resurrection
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:3 and 3:21, forming an intentional inclusio (living hope through resurrection / baptism’s meaning through resurrection). State the historical claim plainly at both locations given mainstream Sunni interpretation of Quran 4:157 denying the crucifixion occurred.
Lord
Approved rendering: خُداوند
Transliteration: Khudāwand
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: مالِک (owner/master, reserve for ordinary human authority)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:3, 1:25, 2:3, 2:13, 3:12, 3:15 (‘sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts’). Note the ironic wordplay at 5:3 (κατακυριεύοντες, ‘lording it over’) built on this same root, applied negatively to elders who must never imitate Christ’s unique Lordship.
Jesus
Approved rendering: یِسوع
Transliteration: Yisū’
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: عیسیٰ (Quranic form, reserve only for explicit interfaith-dialogue contexts)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs throughout 1 Peter. Never عیسیٰ.
Messiah
Approved rendering: مسیح
Transliteration: Masīḥ
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:1-3, 1:7, 1:11, 1:19, 2:5, 2:21, 3:15, 3:18, 4:1, 4:13-14, 5:1, 5:10, 5:14. Shared Quranic vocabulary must not be mistaken for shared doctrine.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: پاک روح
Transliteration: pāk rūḥ
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: روح القدس (Ruh al-Qudus, bare, never use — identified with the angel Gabriel in mainstream Islamic exegesis)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:2, 1:12. At 1:11 this same Spirit is identified specifically as ‘the Spirit of Christ’ (see spirit_of_christ entry), intensifying the baseline’s forbidden-substitution caution.
Apostle
Approved rendering: رسول
Transliteration: rasūl
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: پیغمبر (prophet, a distinct office, avoid conflating)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Peter’s self-designation at 1:1 parallels Paul’s use in Romans 1:1; must state plainly that this office is distinct from Muhammad’s specific title of رسول (Rasulullah) in mainstream Islamic usage.
Father
Approved rendering: باپت
Transliteration: bāpath
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:2, 1:3, 1:17. The impartial-judgment fatherhood of 1:17 should be taught alongside the baseline’s caution about divine Fatherhood being unfamiliar, Tawhid-sensitive vocabulary.
Living Hope
Approved rendering: زندٕ اُمید
Transliteration: zinda umīd
Doctrine: The Living Hope of the Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: اُمید alone (generic hope, lacks the historical-event anchor)
Original: ἐλπὶς ζῶσα
Category: Salvation
1 Peter 1:3. Core curriculum doctrine and the core passage’s controlling term. Must be shown grounded specifically in Christ’s own bodily resurrection, a claim mainstream Sunni interpretation of Quran 4:157 specifically denies, not left as generic pious optimism. Reuses the زندٕ root already established in the baseline resurrection rendering.
Born Again
Approved rendering: نو وِلادت
Transliteration: naw wilādat
Doctrine: New Birth / Regeneration
Rejected alternatives: جنم (janam) — FORBIDDEN ABSOLUTELY, carries reincarnation/samsara association for Kashmiri Pandit readers
Original: ἀναγεννάω
Category: Salvation
1 Peter 1:3, 1:23. NEVER render with جنم under any circumstance, mirroring in severity the baseline’s forbidden-substitution conventions (اوتار, bare روح القدس, شکتی پات). Mainstream Islamic theology has no category of spiritual rebirth (a person is born already fitrah-inclined) and this must be taught explicitly, not assumed understood.
Spirit Of Christ
Approved rendering: مسیح ہنٛد روح
Transliteration: Masīh hand rūḥ
Doctrine: Pre-existence and Deity of Christ
Original: τὸ πνεῦμα Χριστοῦ
Category: Christology
1 Peter 1:11. A direct claim of Christ’s pre-existence and active involvement in salvation history centuries before the incarnation, directly colliding with mainstream Islamic Tawhid theology’s denial of pre-existent divine Sonship; must be taught explicitly, not left implicit.
Ransomed Redeemed
Approved rendering: قیمت دِتھ آزاد کرنہٕ
Transliteration: qīmat dith āzād karun
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: ἐλυτρώθητε
Category: Salvation
1 Peter 1:18. Must be kept distinct from نجات (general salvation); names the costly ransom price paid (Christ’s blood, v.19) as the mechanism, with no parallel in Islamic deeds-weighed mercy or Trika self-recognition.
Precious Blood Unblemished Lamb
Approved rendering: مسیح ہنٛز قیمتی خۆن، بےداغ تہٕ بےعَیب برٕ ہِند خۆن مانٕند
Transliteration: Masīh hanz qīmatī khūn, be-dāgh ta be-‘aib barr hind khūn mānand
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: τίμιον αἷμα…ἀμνοῦ ἀμώμου καὶ ἀσπίλου
Category: Christology
1 Peter 1:19. Requires explicit Passover/Levitical sacrificial-lamb background teaching, unfamiliar to Kashmiri readers of either community; grounds 2:24 and 3:18’s substitutionary suffering doctrine.
Word Of God Living And Abiding
Approved rendering: خُدایُک زندٕ تہٕ قایم رٛاونہٕ وول کلام
Transliteration: Khudāyuk zinda ta qāyim rāwun wol kalām
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture and the Living Word of God
Original: λόγος ζῶν καὶ μένων θεοῦ
Category: Scripture
1 Peter 1:23, 1:25. کلام is simultaneously the Quran’s own self-designation (Kalām Allāh, eternal uncreated divine speech); must teach that this term names the gospel content specifically, following the same methodology as the baseline انجیل/مسیح entries, not assume readers will separate this from expecting ‘God’s Word’ to mean one final delivered book.
Holy Priesthood
Approved rendering: پاک کاہِنی
Transliteration: pāk kāhinī
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: no viable substitute noun avoiding the کاهن root was found
Original: ἱεράτευμα ἅγιον
Category: Church
1 Peter 2:5. RECURRING-FENCE TERM: کاہِن shares its root with Arabic كاهن (kāhin), the pre-Islamic soothsayer/diviner the Quran explicitly and repeatedly distances Muhammad from (52:29, 69:42). Must state plainly at EVERY occurrence, not merely first use, that biblical priesthood names a worship-and-mediation office instituted by God, not soothsaying or divination.
Royal Priesthood
Approved rendering: شاہی کاہِنی
Transliteration: shāhī kāhinī
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: no viable substitute noun avoiding the کاهن root was found
Original: βασίλειον ἱεράτευμα
Category: Church
1 Peter 2:9. Named curriculum doctrine and the single highest-density risk cluster in the book: combines the کاہِن/soothsayer risk above with the baseline’s kingdom_of_god caution that royal language must remain non-territorial and non-political given Kashmir’s contested-sovereignty history. Requires the most careful teaching treatment of any term in the whole curriculum, alongside proclamation_to_spirits_in_prison.
Submission To Authority
Approved rendering: تابعداری
Transliteration: tābe’dārī
Doctrine: Submission to Authority and Christlike Endurance
Rejected alternatives: فرمانبرداری (reserve for the baseline’s distinct ‘obedience of faith’ sense; do not blend the two)
Original: ὑποτάσσω
Category: Ethics
1 Peter 2:13, 2:18, 3:1, 3:22, 5:5. NAMED CURRICULUM DOCTRINE, RECURRING-FENCE TERM: تابعداری shares its triliteral root (س-ل-م) with ‘Islam’ itself (taslīm, submission-to-Allah, the definitional core religious act). Must state with complete clarity at EVERY occurrence, not merely first use, that this addresses submission to human institutions for Christ’s sake, never a claim that the gospel equals Islamic taslīm.
Christ Bore Our Sins
Approved rendering: مسیح چھُ اَسہِ گناہن پننہٕ جِسمس منز کاٹھ پؠٹھ برداشت کرمُت
Transliteration: Masīh chhu asi gunāhan panu jismas manz kāṭh pyeṭh bardāsht karmut
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: ὃς τὰς ἁμαρτίας ἡμῶν αὐτὸς ἀνήνεγκεν ἐν τῷ σώματι αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸ ξύλον
Category: Christology
1 Peter 2:24. The clearest single-verse statement of Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering in the whole book. Must anticipate Quran 6:164’s principle (‘no bearer of burdens shall bear another’s burden’) as a specific, known objection, not a merely generic caution.
Suffering For Righteousness Sake
Approved rendering: راستبازیہ خاطرہٕ مُصیبت اُٹھانہٕ
Transliteration: rāstbāzīya khātira musībat uthānu
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Original: πάσχειν διὰ δικαιοσύνην
Category: Suffering
1 Peter 3:14. NAMED CURRICULUM DOCTRINE. Righteousness here is forensic (already-granted per the baseline’s Critical entry), not suffering-earned; inverting this would collapse the baseline’s justification doctrine.
Once For All
Approved rendering: اکہٕ بار ہمیشہٕ خاطرہٕ
Transliteration: aku bār hamesha khātira
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: ἅπαξ
Category: Christology
1 Peter 3:18. Grounds the baseline’s justification entry’s insistence on a completed, non-repeatable forensic act; must not be softened into an ongoing or repeatable sacrifice pattern, relevant given some regional folk-religious sacrificial practices.
Proclamation To Spirits In Prison
Approved rendering: قید منز موجود روحن باپت اِعلان
Transliteration: qaid manz maujūd rūhan bāpath i’lān
Doctrine: Christ’s Proclamation to the Spirits (1 Peter 3:18-22)
Rejected alternatives: shafa’at-style intercession framing — never model as an ongoing or repeatable human-to-spirit communication
Original: τοῖς ἐν φυλακῇ πνεύμασιν πορευθεὶς ἐκήρυξεν
Category: Christology
1 Peter 3:19. THE SINGLE MOST EXEGETICALLY AND CROSS-CULTURALLY SENSITIVE TERM IN THE BOOK. Addresses three distinct, specific dangers requiring three separate teaching statements: (1) Islamic barzakh doctrine’s risk of a ‘second chance after death’ misreading in tension with 3:18’s once-for-all logic; (2) the Kashmiri Rishi Sufi tradition’s live practice of intercessory communication with departed wali at shrines/dargahs, risking this passage being read as endorsing communication with the dead; (3) Kashmir Shaivite Trika cosmology’s teaching that undivided Shiva-consciousness pervades all cosmic planes, risking this being read as confirming metaphysical continuity of consciousness across realms. Route 3:18-22 as one combined review package to a single human theologian, never split across parallel translators.
Baptism
Approved rendering: بپتِسمہٕ
Transliteration: baptisma
Doctrine: Baptism
Rejected alternatives: should never be conflated with وضو/غسل (wuzu/ghusl) ritual ablution without explicit contrast
Original: βάπτισμα
Category: Sacraments
1 Peter 3:21. Transliterated loanword following established Christian Urdu/Kashmiri Bible-translation convention. Draw explicit comparison/contrast to wuzu/ghusl ritual ablution, since Kashmiri Muslim readers will inevitably bring that association to any ‘washing that saves’ language; use Peter’s own built-in clarification (see not_removal_of_dirt_but_appeal).
Not Removal Of Dirt But Appeal
Approved rendering: جِسمانی مَیل ہٹاونہٕ نہٕ، بلکہ صاف ضمیرہٕ خاطرہٕ خُدایہٕ سٟتی عرض
Transliteration: jismānī mail haṭāwun nu, balki sāf zamīra khātira Khudāya sīti ‘arz
Doctrine: Baptism
Original: οὐ σαρκὸς ἀπόθεσις ῥύπου ἀλλὰ συνειδήσεως ἀγαθῆς ἐπερώτημα εἰς θεόν
Category: Sacraments
1 Peter 3:21b. Highlight, do not merely translate around, this self-guarding clause — it is the passage’s own pre-emptive answer to the wuzu/ghusl default reading, paralleling and exceeding the baseline’s پاک/صاف distinction.
God Of All Grace
Approved rendering: ساری فضلَن ہنٛد خُدا
Transliteration: sārī fazlan hand Khudā
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Original: ὁ θεὸς πάσης χάριτος
Category: God
1 Peter 5:10. Forms an intentional inclusio with 1:3’s opening doxology; render with the full doctrinal weight of the baseline’s Critical grace entry.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: انجیل
Transliteration: Injīl
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: اچھی خبر (a plain descriptive gloss, acceptable only as an explanatory aside)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Underlies 1 Peter 1:12, 1:25, 4:6, 4:17’s proclamation vocabulary though not itself a distinct focus term in this book. Injil remains shared Quranic vocabulary understood by mainstream Islamic teaching as a scripture given to Isa and later corrupted (tahrif); this curriculum must present the actual New Testament content rather than assume the shared word carries it.
Faith
Approved rendering: ایمان
Transliteration: īmān
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: یقین (certainty/conviction, too intellectual/impersonal alone)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:5, 1:7-9, 1:21, 5:9. Object must remain recoverable as Christ specifically, not generic confessional submission to a system.
God
Approved rendering: خُدا
Transliteration: Khudā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs throughout 1 Peter; must be presented in explicitly Trinitarian, Christ-centered terms per the doxological framing of 1:3 and 5:10.
Called
Approved rendering: سَدہ گیہ
Transliteration: sada gyi
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: دعوت دِنہ (invited, too weak)
Original: κλητός / καλέω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:15, 2:9, 2:21, 3:9, 5:10; context-sensitive across ministry/sainthood/salvation senses as in Romans.
Calling
Approved rendering: سَدنُک
Transliteration: sadanuk
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Background term supporting the called-vocabulary family in 1 Peter.
Election
Approved rendering: خُدایُک چُنٲوُن
Transliteration: Khudāyuk chunāwun
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: قسمت (fate/taqdir, use only with explicit definitional contrast)
Original: ἐκλεκτός / ἐκλογή
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:1 (‘elect exiles’), 2:4, 2:6, 2:9. Must not collapse into قسمت/taqdir’s impersonal fatalism.
Holy
Approved rendering: پاک
Transliteration: pāk
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Rejected alternatives: صاف (physically clean, ritual-ablution sense, avoid as a substitute)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:15-16 (direct Leviticus 11:44-45 citation requiring Torah-background teaching), 1:2, 2:5, 2:9, 3:5.
Saints
Approved rendering: پاک لوکہ
Transliteration: pāk lūkh
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: ولی (a venerated Sufi saint, never for the corporate biblical sense)
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Underlies the corporate identity language of 1 Peter 2:9-10; must not substitute ولی.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: پاکیزگی
Transliteration: pākīzagī
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:2 as the Spirit’s sanctifying work grounding election.
Glory
Approved rendering: جلال
Transliteration: jalāl
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:7-8, 1:11, 1:21, 4:11, 4:13-14, 5:1, 5:4, 5:10. Anchor consistently to Christ’s own glory, not a free-floating divine attribute.
Sin
Approved rendering: گناہ
Transliteration: gunāh
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 2:22, 2:24, 3:18, 4:1, 4:8. For Trika-shaped readers, restate explicitly that sin presupposes a real self-other distinction their non-dualism does not grant by default.
Providence
Approved rendering: خُدایُک انتظام
Transliteration: Khudāyuk intizām
Doctrine: Providence and Assurance amid Suffering
Rejected alternatives: قسمت (fate/taqdir, use with caution)
Original: πρόνοια (cf. 1 Peter 4:19, 5:7, 5:10)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Underlies 1 Peter 4:19’s ‘faithful Creator’ and 5:6-10’s sustaining-action vocabulary. Must not collapse into قسمت/taqdir’s more impersonal fatalism.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: خُدایُک قوت
Transliteration: Khudāyuk quwwat
Doctrine: The Living Hope of the Resurrection
Rejected alternatives: شکتی (Shakti, Kashmir Shaivite dynamic divine-energy term, avoid)
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:5 (‘guarded through faith by the power of God’). قوت required; شکتی forbidden per baseline.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: میراث
Transliteration: mīrās
Doctrine: The Living Hope of the Resurrection
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Salvation
1 Peter 1:4, 3:7. میراث is a precisely regulated Islamic legal category (Quranic fixed inheritance shares, farāʾiḍ); must state explicitly this inheritance is undivided and held in trust for every believer through union with Christ, not property divided by legal formula.
Tested Genuineness Of Faith
Approved rendering: ایمانہ ہنٛز پرکھمُت اَصلیت
Transliteration: īmāna hanz parakhmut asliyat
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Original: τὸ δοκίμιον τῆς πίστεως
Category: Faith
1 Peter 1:7. The refining-fire metaphor purifies what grace already established; must not be taught as accumulating merit toward reward, an Islamic deeds-weighing misreading.
Elect Exiles Sojourners
Approved rendering: چُنٕمت پردیسی
Transliteration: chunimut pardesī
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Original: ἐκλεκτοὶ παρεπίδημοι
Category: Church
1 Peter 1:1, 2:11. Given Kashmir’s own displacement history (including the 1990 Pandit exodus), handle with particular pastoral sensitivity — teach as theological identity without trivializing real communal exile experience.
Foreknowledge
Approved rendering: خُدایُک پیشگی علم
Transliteration: Khudāyuk peshgī ‘ilm
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Original: πρόγνωσις
Category: God
1 Peter 1:2. Distinguish from قسمت/taqdir’s more impersonal fatalism, per the baseline’s existing election/providence cautions.
Sprinkling Of Blood
Approved rendering: خۆنہٕ ہنٛز چھِٹہٕ
Transliteration: khūna hanz chhiṭa
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: ῥαντισμὸς αἵματος
Category: Covenant
1 Peter 1:2. Requires explicit Exodus 24:3-8 covenant-ratification background teaching; distinct from any folk-religious ritual blood-sacrifice practice.
Living Stone
Approved rendering: زندٕ کانہٕ
Transliteration: zinda kāny
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Original: λίθος ζῶν
Category: Christology
1 Peter 2:4, 2:6-8. Reuses the زندٕ root from ‘living hope’ (1:3); a deliberate paradox. VERIFY کانہٕ (stone) with a native Kashmiri-speaking theologian before wide deployment — flagged as one of the two new compounds judged least secure in current attestation.
Holy Nation
Approved rendering: پاک قوم
Transliteration: pāk qaum
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Original: ἔθνος ἅγιον
Category: Church
1 Peter 2:9. قوم is politically loaded vocabulary given Kashmir’s decades-long contested-sovereignty conflict; must be taught as explicitly not a rival ethnic, sectarian, or political nation, but a transnational, transcommunal people.
Suffering Unjustly
Approved rendering: ناحق مُصیبت اُٹھانہٕ
Transliteration: nāḥaq musībat uthānu
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Rejected alternatives: صبر-only framing (Islamic patience-toward-deeds-weighed-reward, supporting synonym only, never the primary carrier)
Original: πάσχων ἀδίκως
Category: Suffering
1 Peter 2:19-20. Must be distinguished from karma-framed suffering (Trika) and from suffering framed mainly as sabr toward eventual Islamic deeds-weighing reward, rather than as participation in Christ’s own redemptive pattern.
Healed By His Wounds
Approved rendering: تِمہٕ ہنٛد زخم سٟتی توہی شفا مِلی
Transliteration: timi hand zakham sīti tohi shifā milyi
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: τῷ μώλωπι αὐτοῦ ἰάθητε
Category: Christology
1 Peter 2:24b. Direct Isaiah 53:5 citation; requires explicit Old Testament background teaching; healing here is spiritual/relational, not a promise of physical health.
Fellow Heirs Of Grace Of Life
Approved rendering: زندگیہ ہنٛز فضلہٕ ہنٛد شریک وارِث
Transliteration: zindagīya hanz fazla hand sharīk wāris
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Original: συγκληρονόμοι χάριτος ζωῆς
Category: Church
1 Peter 3:7. Combines the میراث (inheritance) caution with the baseline’s Critical grace entry; affirms wives’ equal co-heir dignity, a point worth surfacing explicitly in teaching, not merely a translation note.
As A Christian
Approved rendering: مسیحی حَیثیَتہٕ منز
Transliteration: masīhī ḥaisiyata manz
Doctrine: Christian Identity and Suffering for the Name
Original: ὡς Χριστιανός
Category: Church
1 Peter 4:16, one of only three NT occurrences of ‘Christian.’ Bearing the مسیحی identity publicly, including under social or legal pressure, remains a live and sometimes costly reality for Kashmiri Christians today.
Faithful Creator
Approved rendering: وفادار خالِق
Transliteration: wafādār khāliq
Doctrine: Providence and Assurance amid Suffering
Original: πιστὸς κτίστης
Category: God
1 Peter 4:19. خالِق is one of the traditional 99 names of Allah — a genuine positive point of contact — but must retain the specifically Christ-centered, resurrection-hope framing of chapters 1-4, not become a generic tawakkul teaching detached from that foundation.
Elders
Approved rendering: بزرگ
Transliteration: buzurg
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Original: πρεσβύτεροι
Category: Church
1 Peter 5:1. NAMED CURRICULUM DOCTRINE, RECURRING-FENCE TERM: بزرگ is widely used as an honorific for a venerated Sufi elder or saint (buzurgān-e-dīn, comparable to a pir) in the Rishi tradition; must state plainly, and repeatedly, that this office is defined by the specific shepherding duties of 5:2-3, not comparable to a venerated spiritual master or shrine-associated saint figure.
Humility
Approved rendering: عاجزی
Transliteration: ʻājizī
Doctrine: Elders and Humility
Original: ταπεινοφροσύνη
Category: Sanctification
1 Peter 5:5-6. NAMED CURRICULUM DOCTRINE, RECURRING-FENCE TERM: must be distinguished separately, with two distinct teaching statements, from (a) Sufi fana-oriented self-annihilation aimed at mystical absorption AND (b) Kashmir Shaivism’s dissolution of ego toward recognizing one’s own already-present divinity (pratyabhijna) — two distinct wrong frames, never merged into a single generic caution.
Medium Risk Terms
Gentiles
Approved rendering: غیر-قوم
Transliteration: ghair-qaum
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Underlies قوم-root vocabulary in 1 Peter 2:9, 2:12; carries acute political sensitivity in the Kashmir context.
Prophet
Approved rendering: پیغمبر
Transliteration: paighambar
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture and the Living Word of God
Original: προφήτης
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 1:10, the Old Testament prophets who searched out the salvation now announced.
Peace
Approved rendering: امن
Transliteration: amn
Doctrine: Peace with God
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs in the 1 Peter 1:2 greeting and 5:14 closing. Handle with the region-specific conflict-history sensitivity the baseline already flags.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: خُدایُک بادشاہت
Transliteration: Khudāyuk bādshāhat
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Original: βασιλεία / βασίλειον
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Root reused in ‘royal priesthood’ (2:9) and ‘honor the king’ (2:13, 2:17); must remain clearly non-territorial and non-political given Kashmir’s contested-sovereignty history.
Covenant
Approved rendering: عہد
Transliteration: ‘ahd
Doctrine: Christ’s Substitutionary Suffering
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Background concept underlying the Exodus 24 sprinkling-of-blood allusion at 1 Peter 1:2.
Church
Approved rendering: کلیسیا
Transliteration: kalīsiyā
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood
Rejected alternatives: مسجد (mosque, never use), مندر (temple, never use)
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Referenced by contrast at 1 Peter 2:5’s ‘spiritual house’ and 4:17’s ‘household of God’ — the corporate people of God, not a physical building.
Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: روحانی نعمتہ
Transliteration: rūḥānī ni’amat
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and Stewardship
Rejected alternatives: کرامت (a Sufi saint’s miraculous gift/charism, avoid as the primary term)
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Occurs at 1 Peter 4:10-11 as ‘stewards of God’s varied grace’; gifts serve the whole church, not a mark of individual sainthood, distinct from کرامت.
Mission
Approved rendering: انجیلہ ہنٛز منادی
Transliteration: Injīla hanz munādī

Original: ἄφθαρτος
Category: Salvation
1 Peter 1:4, 1:18 (contrast), 1:23 (imperishable seed). Keep verbally consistent across all occurrences. Distinguish from Trika’s view that the self/consciousness is already eternal by nature; here imperishability is a gift given to a creature, not a recognition of innate divine status.

Transliteration: jismānī khwāhishāt
Doctrine: Holiness in Conduct
Original: σαρκικαὶ ἐπιθυμίαι
Category: Sanctification
1 Peter 2:11. Point of contact with the Islamic ascetic nafs-concept; Peter’s emphasis is behavioral witness before outsiders (v.12), not primarily an internal spiritual-discipline program — pair with the ‘so that outsiders may see your good deeds’ clause in teaching.

Category: Covenant
1 Peter 3:20. Shared narrative with the Quranic Nuh account (a genuine point of contact), but the flood’s typological link to baptism (v.21) is distinctively Petrine and must be taught explicitly, not assumed to transfer automatically.
Stewards Of Grace
Approved rendering: خُدایُک فضلُک مُختار کار
Transliteration: Khudāyuk fazluk mukhtār kār
Doctrine: Church as a Holy and Royal Priesthood

Transliteration: dushman iblīs
Doctrine: Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake
Original: ὁ ἀντίδικος ὑμῶν διάβολος

1 Peter 5:8. شیطان (shaitān) acceptable as a synonym gloss. اِبلیس is the standard Quranic name for the tempter figure; the Quranic Iblis narrative (a jinn refusing to bow to Adam) differs from the biblical Satan tradition in origin-story details, but 1 Peter’s point (resist a real, active adversary through firm faith) does not depend on resolving or importing that backstory.
