Core Glossary
Core Glossary: Ephesians 1–6
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, across the core passage (Ephesians 2:1-10) and all six chapters of Ephesians. Terms marked “Reused” carry forward the exact rendering already fixed in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json and MUST NOT be altered. Terms marked “New” are proposed additions for this curriculum, pending confirmation by a Kashmiri-speaking theologian before Phase 2 deployment, per this Language Package’s established practice for Critical/High terms.

B. New Terms Proposed for the Ephesians Language Package
| English Term | Kashmiri Rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Key Occurrences | Alternatives Rejected | Risk Rationale (Summary) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Predestined / Predestination | اڳے پؠٹھ چُنٲوُن | agyē pyeṭh chunāwun | High | Election and Predestination in Christ | 1:5, 1:11 | (root shares baseline election’s rejected قسمت) | Must not collapse into impersonal fatalism (qismat/taqdir); God’s predestining purpose is personal and relational, aimed at adoption. |
| Redemption | خُونہٕ معرفت رِہائی | khūnah ma’rifat rihā’ī | High | Salvation by Grace through Faith | 1:7 | فدیہ (fidya, Islamic ransom-payment concept, rejected as insufficient standalone equivalent) | Must be taught as a once-for-all, blood-secured deliverance by Christ’s own sacrifice, distinct from Islamic fidya’s substitutionary-payment logic. |
| Mystery | راز | rāz | Critical | The Mystery of Christ Revealed | 1:9, 3:3-9, 5:32, 6:19 | اسرار (asrar, Sufi esoteric-secrets vocabulary, rejected), بھید (colloquial “secret,” rejected as too generic) | Must be taught as a plan once hidden, now fully and openly disclosed to all — the opposite of an ongoing esoteric secret reserved for initiates. |
| Inheritance | وراثت | wirāsat | High | Election and Predestination in Christ | 1:11, 1:14, 1:18, 3:6 | — | Risk of defaulting to the specific, formula-based Islamic inheritance-law (fara’idh) framework rather than an undivided shared inheritance in Christ. |
| Seal / Sealed | مُہر لگاوُن | muhr lagāwun | Critical | Election and Predestination in Christ | 1:13, 4:30 | — | CRITICAL new collision: مُہر is the term in the Islamic doctrine of Khatm-e-Nubuwwat (Seal of Prophethood); must be explicitly distinguished from this sensitive prophetological title — the Spirit’s sealing marks believers’ ownership/guarantee, unrelated to prophetic finality claims. |
| Guarantee / Down Payment (arrabon) | بیعانہٕ | bay’ānah | Medium | Election and Predestination in Christ | 1:14, 4:30 | ضِمانت (zamanat, “guarantee,” considered, less precise commercially) | Must be tied explicitly to the Holy Spirit’s own person, not left as an abstract financial metaphor. |
| Fullness / Pleroma | بھراؤ | bharāv | Critical | The Mystery of Christ Revealed; Church as Body of Christ | 1:23, 3:19, 4:13, 5:18 | کمال (kamāl, invoking Sufi Insan-i-Kamil, rejected); Sanskrit-derived “purna” loanwords (invoking Trika pūrṇatā, rejected) | Double collision: must be distinguished from both Sufi human-perfection doctrine and Trika’s innate-fullness-of-consciousness doctrine; this is Christ’s own cosmic sufficiency given relationally to the church. |
| Dividing Wall of Hostility | جدائیہ ہنٛز دیوار | judā’iya hanz dīwār | High | Unity of Jews and Gentiles | 2:14 | — | Politically resonant imagery given Kashmir’s own history of literal dividing lines; must stay anchored to the specific Jew-Gentile covenant referent. |
| One New Man | اکھ نۄو اِنسان | akh nau insān | High | Unity of Jews and Gentiles | 2:15 | — | Must be taught as a genuinely new creation in Christ, not political assimilation or erasure of identity — a sensitive parallel given regional communal-identity questions. |
| Reconciliation | مصالحت | musālahat | High | Unity of Jews and Gentiles | 2:16 | صلح (sulh, rejected as too politically loaded regionally, esp. “sulh-e-kul”) | Must remain anchored to the specific cross-secured reconciliation of humanity to God, not read as a political peace process. |
| Access | رسائی | rasā’ī | High | Unity of Jews and Gentiles; Christ-Centered Relationships | 2:18, 3:12 | — | Must be distinguished from shafa’at (authorized human/angelic mediating intercession); access to the Father is direct, through Christ and the Spirit alone. |
| Household of God | خُدایُک کُٹُمب | Khudāyuk kuṭumb | Medium | The Church as the Body of Christ | 2:19 | — | Reuses the کُٹُمب root already established in baseline’s adoption doctrine name, for internal consistency. |
| Cornerstone | کونہٕ پَتھر | kony path’r | Low-Medium | The Church as the Body of Christ | 2:20 | — | Straightforward architectural metaphor; low ambiguity. |
| Body of Christ | مسیحہ ہند جِسم | Masīḥa hind jism | High | The Church as the Body of Christ | 1:23, 4:12, 5:23, 5:30 | — | Must preserve organic, interdependent unity while retaining each member’s (and Christ the Head’s) distinctness — must not be read through Trika’s monistic dissolution-of-distinction lens. |
| Baptism | بپتِسمہ | baptisma (transliterated) | Medium | The Church as the Body of Christ | 4:5 | — | Distinguish from repeated ritual ablution (wuzu/ghusl); baptism is a single, unrepeated act of incorporation into Christ. |
| Mature Manhood / Fullness of Stature | بالغ/کامل انسانیت (+ بھراؤ) | bāligh/kāmil insāniyat | High | Gifts for Building Up the Church | 4:13 | — | کامل again risks Sufi Insan-i-Kamil resonance; must be taught as corporate Christlikeness attained through the Spirit’s gifts, not individual mystical attainment. |
| Put Off the Old Self / Put On the New Self | پُرانہٕ اِنسان لاہنہٕ / نۄو اِنسان پہننہٕ | purānah insān lāhnah / nau insān pahnnah | Medium-High | Walking in Newness of Life | 4:22-24 | — | Decisive, Spirit-enabled transformation grounded in union with Christ, not a self-improvement program achieved by disciplined religious effort. |
| Renewed in the Spirit of the Mind | دِماغَچ روحہٕ منز نۄو کرنہٕ | dimāghach rūḥah manz nau karnah | Medium | Walking in Newness of Life | 4:23 | — | Ongoing inward Spirit-wrought transformation of thought and disposition. |
| Grieve (the Holy Spirit) | پاک روح مغموم کرُن | pāk rūḥ maghmūm karun | High | Gifts for Building Up the Church | 4:30 | — | Reinforces the Spirit’s personhood (per baseline’s Critical Holy Spirit note); the Spirit can be relationally grieved, unlike an impersonal force. |
| Imitators of God | خُدا سٕند مثال منٛز ہلچل کرُن | Khudā sand misāl manz halchal karun | Medium-High | Christ-Centered Relationships | 5:1 | تقلید (taqlīd, Islamic legal-imitation term, rejected) | Must convey relational character-formation as God’s beloved children, not legalistic rule-following. |
| Fragrant Offering and Sacrifice | قربانی | qurbānī | High | The Mystery of Christ Revealed | 5:2 | — | Rich point of contact with Islamic Eid al-Adha qurbani practice; must be taught as pointing to Christ’s unique, final, once-for-all self-offering, not one more instance of an already-complete sacrificial pattern. |
| Sexual Immorality | زِنا | zinā | Medium-High | Walking in Newness of Life | 5:3 | — | Overlaps with a specific Islamic hadd criminal-law category; frame pastorally around holiness and belonging rather than criminal prosecution. |
| Children of Light / Darkness | نُور / اندہار | nūr / andhār | Critical | Walking in Newness of Life | 5:8-9 | — | CRITICAL double collision: Sufi Nur-i-Muhammadi (primordial Light of Muhammad) and Trika prakāśa (luminous non-dual consciousness); must be taught as a moral-relational contrast, not either metaphysical light-doctrine. |
| Filled with the Spirit | پاک روحہٕ سٕتی بھرپور | pāk rūḥē saty bharpūr | Medium | Gifts for Building Up the Church | 5:18 | — | Distinguish from Sufi sama/dhikr ecstatic states; ongoing ethical, communal Spirit-empowerment, not induced mystical trance. |
| Submit to One Another / Submission | تابعداری | tābey’dārī | High | Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships | 5:21-22, 6:1, 6:5 | تسلیم (taslīm, root of “Islam,” rejected to avoid conflating spousal/social submission with submission to God) | Must retain the passage’s mutual-submission framing (5:21) as governing the specific household applications that follow. |
| Head / Headship | سربراہ | sarbarāh | High | Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships | 5:23, cf. 1:22, 4:15 | — | Risk of defaulting to Islamic qawwāmah (Quran 4:34) authority framework; must be explicitly redefined by Christ’s self-sacrificial love (5:25), not domination. |
| Armor of God | خُدایُک پوری زِرہ | Khudāyuk pūrī zirah | High | Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God | 6:11, 6:13 | — | Requires great sensitivity given the region’s literal militarized conflict; must be framed as wholly spiritual and defensive, never as endorsement of literal violence. |
| Not Against Flesh and Blood | جِسم تہٕ لہو خلاف نہٕ | jism tay lahū khilāf nah | High | Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God | 6:12 | — | Pastorally critical: must foreclose, not enable, any use of “spiritual warfare” language to justify hostility toward neighbors of a different faith. |
| Rulers, Authorities, Cosmic Powers, Spiritual Forces of Evil | حکمرانی، اختیارات، دُنیاوی حاکم، بدی ہند روحانی طاقتہ | hukmrānī, ikhtiyārāt, dunyāwī hākim, badī hind rūḥānī tāqatah | High | Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God | 1:21, 6:12 | — | Point of contact with jinn/shayateen belief in regional Islam; note Trika’s non-dualism denies independently real evil, requiring separate engagement. |
| Word of God (rhema) | خُدایُک کلام | Khudāyuk kalām | Critical | Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God | 6:17 | — | CRITICAL new collision: کلام invokes Islamic ‘ilm al-kalām and the Kalam Allah uncreated-speech-of-the-Quran controversy; must be explained as the Spirit’s living, active gospel proclamation, not an implicit claim about the Quran. |
| Stewardship | انتظام | intizām | Medium | The Mystery of Christ Revealed | 3:2, 3:9 | — | Reuses baseline’s providence-root for consistency; Paul’s God-given administrative task of dispensing the revealed mystery. |
| Fellow Heirs | ہمگام وارث | hamgām wāris | High | Unity of Jews and Gentiles | 3:6 | — | Same Islamic inheritance-law caution as “inheritance” above; equal, not partial, covenant status for Gentile believers. |
C. Cross-Reference Notes for Phase 2
- All Section A terms must be pulled directly from the existing
translation_memory.jsonwithout modification; do not re-derive or re-translate. - All Section B terms are new proposals requiring theologian confirmation before Phase 2 translation begins, per the escalation rules in
12_ai_translation_requirements.md; Critical-risk new terms (Mystery, Seal/Sealed, Fullness/Pleroma, Children of Light/Darkness, Word of God) require mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence, with no exceptions. - The sevenfold unity confession of Ephesians 4:4-6 (“one body… one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God”) should be locked to an identical rendering across all Ephesians curriculum documents, following the same cross-document consistency principle the baseline applies to Romans 1:16-17, 8:28, and 10:9-10.
- Ephesians 2:1-10 (the core passage) as a whole should be treated as a second locked passage alongside the above, given its status as this curriculum’s theological anchor.
Critical Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: فضل
Transliteration: faz’l
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: شکتی پات (Shaktipat, the Kashmir Shaivite descent of divine power/grace, never use as a substitute), رحم (mercy in the general Islamic sense of divine compassion weighed against deeds, use only as a supporting synonym, never a replacement)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Ephesians 2:5-8 is this curriculum’s core-passage thesis and must resist both the mainstream Islamic deeds-weighing frame and the Kashmir Shaivite shaktipat frame (awakening a divinity already dormant). Also occurs 1:2, 1:6-7, 4:7.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: راستبازی
Transliteration: rāstbāzī
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: تقویٰ (piety/God-consciousness, an Islamic virtue achieved through disciplined practice, too works-oriented)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs in the ‘new self’ description (4:24), as fruit of the light (5:9), and as the ‘breastplate of righteousness’ (6:14). Must not collapse into taqwā-style disciplined piety.
Salvation
Approved rendering: نجات
Transliteration: najāt
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: جنت (paradise as a destination, never a stand-alone gloss), موکش (moksha-style liberation, never use for Kashmir Shaivite readers), پرتیبھِجنا (pratyabhijna, self-recognition of one’s own innate divinity in Trika philosophy, never use as a substitute)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Central to Ephesians 2:5,8 (‘by grace you have been saved’) and the ‘helmet of salvation’ (6:17). Must resist both the Islamic deeds-weighing entry-to-paradise model and the Trika pratyabhijna model, as two separate, specific errors.
Apostle
Approved rendering: رسول
Transliteration: rasūl
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: پیغمبر (prophet, a distinct office, avoid conflating)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:1, 2:20, 3:5, 4:11. رسول is the Arabic-derived title reserved in mainstream Islamic usage for Muhammad and a small set of major prophet-messengers; Paul’s office must be explicitly distinguished from Muhammad’s title at first use.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: مُردٕن پؠٹھ زندٕ تھِیُن
Transliteration: murdan pyeṭh zinda thyun
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἐγείρω
Category: Eschatology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:20 (Christ’s own resurrection) and 2:5-6 (believers ‘made alive together with Christ’ and ‘raised up with him’). Must be taught as one continuous historical-and-spiritual claim, since mainstream Sunni exegesis of Quran 4:157 denies Christ’s crucifixion occurred at all.
Lord
Approved rendering: خُداوند
Transliteration: Khudāwand
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: مالِک (owner/master, reserve for ordinary human authority contexts)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs pervasively, including in household-code contexts (5:22, 6:1, 6:4-9) where believers’ ultimate accountability is to Christ as Lord, not merely to human household authority. Must not be softened toward a venerated Sufi master (pir).
Son Of God
Approved rendering: خُدایہ ہند پُتر
Transliteration: Khudāya hind putr
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: نبی (a great prophet, an explicit downgrade, rejected)
Original: υἱὸς θεοῦ
Category: Christology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 4:13, tied to the church’s growth toward ‘the knowledge of the Son of God.’ Directly contradicts mainstream Islamic Tawhid doctrine (Quran 112) and must be taught plainly.
Peace
Approved rendering: امن
Transliteration: amn
Doctrine: Peace with God / Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE (baseline Medium), ELEVATED TO CRITICAL for Ephesians per doctrine_risk_registry.json: at 2:14-17, ‘peace’ names Christ’s own reconciling person and work, not an abstract state, and given the region’s decades-long political conflict must be distinguished from any negotiated ceasefire or truce. Also occurs at 4:3 and in the ‘shoes of the gospel of peace’ (6:15).
Messiah
Approved rendering: مسیح
Transliteration: Masīḥ
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs throughout Ephesians. Shared Quranic vocabulary for Isa must not be mistaken for shared doctrine.
Jesus
Approved rendering: یِسوع
Transliteration: Yisū’
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: عیسیٰ (the Quranic form, reserve only for explicit interfaith-dialogue contexts)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs throughout Ephesians.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: پاک روح
Transliteration: pāk rūḥ
Doctrine: The Personhood of the Holy Spirit (Do Not Grieve Him)
Rejected alternatives: روح القدس (Ruh al-Qudus, commonly identified in mainstream Islamic exegesis with the angel Gabriel, never use interchangeably without explicit distinction)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:13, 2:18, 2:22, 4:3-4, 4:30 (where the Spirit can be personally ‘grieved’), 5:18, 6:17-18. Must never be reduced to bare روح القدس.
Father
Approved rendering: باپت
Transliteration: bāpath
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:2-3, 1:17, 2:18, 3:14-15, 4:6, 5:20, and within the household-code section (6:2-4).
Mystery
Approved rendering: راز
Transliteration: rāz
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: اسرار (asrar, Sufi Rishi-tradition esoteric-secrets vocabulary reserved for a pir’s initiated disciples, rejected), بھید (colloquial ‘secret,’ too generic, rejected)
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Christology
NEW TERM. Occurs at 1:9, 3:3-9, 5:32 (marriage), 6:19. Must be explicitly distinguished from اسرار; Ephesians insists the mystery is now fully and openly disclosed to all (3:5-6, 6:19) — the opposite of an ongoing esoteric secret. Mandatory theologian review at every occurrence.
Seal
Approved rendering: مُہر لگاوُن
Transliteration: muhr lagāwun
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: σφραγίζω / ἐσφραγίσθητε
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Occurs at 1:13, 4:30. CRITICAL new collision not present in Romans: مُہر is the exact word in the Islamic doctrinal title Khatm-e-Nubuwwat (‘Muhr-e-Nubuwwat’/Seal of Prophethood), defended with particular intensity in South Asian Islam. Must explicitly clarify the Spirit’s sealing of a believer shares only the word, not the referent, with this sensitive prophetological title.
Fullness Pleroma
Approved rendering: بھراؤ
Transliteration: bharāv
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Rejected alternatives: کمال (kamāl, invoking Sufi Insan-i-Kamil, rejected), Sanskrit-derived ‘purna’ loanwords (invoking Trika pūrṇatā, rejected)
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Christology
NEW TERM, a native Kashmiri word deliberately chosen over Arabic/Persian or Sanskrit-derived loans. Occurs at 1:23, 3:19, 4:13, 5:18. Double CRITICAL collision: Sufi Insan-i-Kamil (individual mystical completeness) and Trika pūrṇatā (Shiva-consciousness’s innate, already-complete fullness recognized rather than received). Ephesians’ fullness is Christ’s own cosmic sufficiency relationally given to the church.
Children Of Light Darkness
Approved rendering: نُور / اندہار
Transliteration: nūr / andhār
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: τέκνα φωτός / σκότος
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Occurs at 5:8-9. Double CRITICAL collision: (a) نور is central to the Sufi doctrine of Nur-i-Muhammadi, the pre-existent primordial Light of Muhammad; (b) for Kashmiri Pandit readers, prakāśa (self-luminous consciousness) is a foundational Kashmir Shaivism ontological category. Must state plainly at first use that this contrast is moral and relational, not a metaphysical light-substance doctrine of either kind. Highest-ranked ambiguity in this letter per linguistic gap analysis.
Word Of God
Approved rendering: خُدایُک کلام
Transliteration: Khudāyuk kalām
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: ῥῆμα Θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM. Occurs at 6:17, ‘the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.’ CRITICAL new collision: کلام is the technical term for Islamic scholastic theology (‘ilm al-kalām) and specifically for the contested Kalam Allah doctrine of the Quran’s uncreated, eternal speech. Must state plainly that ‘word of God’ here names the Spirit-empowered proclamation of the gospel/Scripture, a related but distinct claim from the Islamic kalam-Allah controversy.
Good Works
Approved rendering: چٟنٛگہٕ عملہ
Transliteration: changē a’māl
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ἔργα ἀγαθά
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Occurs at 2:10, directly resuming and contrasting with 2:9’s ‘not a result of works.’ عمل (a’māl) is the exact term used in mainstream Islamic soteriology for deeds weighed at judgment (mīzān); this reversal of sequence (grace → faith → works, not works → merit → grace) is the single most important structural point in the passage for a Muslim-background reader and must be made explicit.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: انجیل
Transliteration: Injīl
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: اچھی خبر (a plain descriptive gloss, acceptable only as an explanatory aside)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs in Ephesians at 1:13, 3:6, 6:15 (shoes of the gospel of peace), 6:19 (make known the mystery of the gospel). Injil remains shared Quranic vocabulary for a scripture given to Isa held by mainstream Islamic teaching to have been later corrupted (tahrif); the actual New Testament content must be taught explicitly.
Faith
Approved rendering: ایمان
Transliteration: īmān
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: یقین (certainty/conviction, too intellectual/impersonal alone)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:15, 2:8, 3:12, 3:17, 4:5, 4:13, and as the ‘shield of faith’ (6:16). The object of faith (personal trust in Christ) must remain explicit against Islamic iman’s default sense of confessional system-submission.
Called
Approved rendering: سَدہ گیہ
Transliteration: sada gyi
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: دعوت دِنہ (invited, too weak)
Original: κλητός
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:18 and 4:1, 4:4, grounding the unity ethic of Ephesians 4 in a shared calling.
Calling
Approved rendering: سَدنُک
Transliteration: sadanuk
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:18, 4:1, 4:4.
Holy
Approved rendering: پاک
Transliteration: pāk
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: صاف (physically clean, ritual-ablution sense, avoid as a substitute)
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:4, 1:13, 5:27 (the church presented ‘holy and without blemish’). صاف remains reserved for wuzu-style ritual cleanliness.
Saints
Approved rendering: پاک لوکہ
Transliteration: pāk lūkh
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: ولی (a Sufi saint venerated at a shrine, never use for the corporate biblical sense)
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:1, 1:15, 1:18, 3:8, 3:18, 4:12, 5:3, 6:18. ولی must never substitute for this corporate sense.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: پاکیزگی
Transliteration: pākīzagī
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 5:26 (Christ sanctifying the church ‘by the washing of water with the word’). Distinguish from ritual ablution and from Trika disciplines recognizing already-present purity.
Adoption
Approved rendering: خدا ہند فرزند بنٲوُن
Transliteration: Khudā hind farzand banāwun
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: υἱοθεσία
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at Ephesians 1:5, predestined ‘for adoption through Jesus Christ.’ Runs against Islamic law’s narrow, guardianship-only (kafala) approach to adoption.
Law
Approved rendering: شریعت
Transliteration: sharī’at
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 2:15, ‘the law of commandments… abolished’ specifically in its Jew-Gentile boundary-marking function. Teaching must clarify only this dividing function, not God’s moral will, is set aside.
Sin
Approved rendering: گناہ
Transliteration: gunāh
Doctrine: Universal Spiritual Deadness apart from Christ
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 2:1 paired with ‘trespasses.’ For Trika-shaped readers, must be taught as presupposing a real self-other guilt distinction their non-dualism does not grant by default.
Glory
Approved rendering: جلال
Transliteration: jalāl
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs repeatedly at 1:6, 1:12, 1:14, 1:17, 3:13, 3:16, 3:21.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: خُدایُک قوت
Transliteration: Khudāyuk quwwat
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed / Spiritual Warfare
Rejected alternatives: شکتی (Shakti, Kashmir Shaivite dynamic divine energy/Spanda concept, avoid as primary term)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:19, 1:21, 3:7, 3:16, 3:20, and in ‘be strong in the Lord’ (6:10). قوت required; avoid شکتی.
Election
Approved rendering: خُدایُک چُنٲوُن
Transliteration: Khudāyuk chunāwun
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: قسمت (fate, tied to taqdir, use with caution)
Original: ἐκλογή / ἐξελέξατο
Category: Salvation
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Ephesians 1:4 sharpens the baseline caution: election here is explicitly personal, relational, and Christ-centered (‘chose us in him’), not impersonal fatalism.
Providence
Approved rendering: خُدایُک انتظام
Transliteration: Khudāyuk intizām
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: قسمت (fate/taqdir, use with caution)
Original: πρόνοια (cf. Ephesians 1:11)
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:11, ‘predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things.’ Root also reused for ‘stewardship’ (3:2, 3:9).
God
Approved rendering: خُدا
Transliteration: Khudā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: θεός
Category: God
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs throughout; must consistently be presented in explicitly Trinitarian, Christ-centered terms.
Predestination
Approved rendering: اڳے پؠٹھ چُنٲوُن
Transliteration: agyē pyeṭh chunāwun
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: قسمت/تقدیر (fate/taqdir, impersonal fatalism, rejected)
Original: προορίζω / προορίσας
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Built on the baseline election root for consistency. Occurs at 1:5, 1:11. Must not collapse into قسمت/taqdir’s impersonal fatalism; God’s predestining purpose is personal and relational, aimed at adoption and inheritance.
Redemption
Approved rendering: خُونہٕ معرفت رِہائی
Transliteration: khūnah ma’rifat rihā’ī
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: فدیہ (fidya, Islamic ransom-payment concept, rejected as insufficient standalone equivalent)
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Occurs at 1:7, 1:14. Must be distinguished from Islamic fidya (Quran 37:107), which does not carry the sense of a permanent, once-for-all, blood-sealed atonement accomplished by God’s own Son.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: وراثت
Transliteration: wirāsat
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Occurs at 1:11, 1:14, 1:18, 3:6. Risk: وراثت is the standard term for Islamic inheritance law (fara’idh), a fixed-shares legal system; must be taught as an undivided shared inheritance in Christ, not divided legal shares.
Children Of Wrath
Approved rendering: فطرتن غضبہٕ ہند اولاد
Transliteration: fiṭratan ghazabah hind aulād
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: τέκνα φύσει ὀργῆς
Category: Sin
NEW TERM used with explicit caution. Occurs at 2:3. فطرت (fitrah) is a loaded Islamic theological term meaning an innate, pure disposition toward God (cf. the hadith ‘every child is born upon the fitrah’); using it here risks reversing the doctrine into its opposite. Must state plainly that Ephesians teaches inherited guilt from birth, directly against the fitrah-innocence framework.
Dividing Wall
Approved rendering: جدائیہ ہنٛز دیوار
Transliteration: judā’iya hanz dīwār
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: τὸ μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Occurs at 2:14. Politically resonant imagery given Kashmir’s own history of literal dividing lines; teaching must keep the metaphor anchored to its specific Jew-Gentile covenant referent, not the region’s own communal/political divisions.
One New Man
Approved rendering: اکھ نۄو اِنسان
Transliteration: akh nau insān
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: ἕνα καινὸν ἄνθρωπον
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Occurs at 2:15. Must be taught as a genuinely new creation in Christ, not political assimilation, forced merger, or erasure of ethnic/communal identity.
Reconciliation
Approved rendering: مصالحت
Transliteration: musālahat
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Rejected alternatives: صلح (sulh, rejected as too politically loaded regionally, especially the historically loaded phrase ‘sulh-e-kul’)
Original: ἀποκαταλλάσσω
Category: Church
NEW TERM, a neutral administrative/legal loanword. Occurs at 2:16. Must remain anchored to the specific cross-secured reconciliation of humanity to God, not read as a political peace process.
Access
Approved rendering: رسائی
Transliteration: rasā’ī
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: προσαγωγή
Category: Church
NEW TERM. Occurs at 2:18, 3:12 (‘boldness and access with confidence’). Must be distinguished from shafa’at, the Islamic/Sufi category of an authorized figure’s mediating intercession — believers’ access is direct, requiring no human or angelic mediator.
Body Of Christ
Approved rendering: مسیحہ ہند جِسم
Transliteration: Masīḥa hind jism
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: σῶμα Χριστοῦ
Category: Church
NEW TERM, reusing مسیح exactly. Occurs at 1:23, 4:12, 5:23, 5:30. Must preserve organic, interdependent unity while retaining each member’s (and Christ the Head’s) distinctness — must not be read through Trika’s monistic dissolution-of-distinction lens.
Mature Manhood
Approved rendering: بالغ/کامل انسانیت
Transliteration: bāligh/kāmil insāniyat
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Original: ἄνδρα τέλειον / μέτρον ἡλικίας τοῦ πληρώματος τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Church
NEW TERM combined with reused بھراؤ. Occurs at 4:13. کامل risks Sufi Insan-i-Kamil resonance; must be taught as corporate Christlikeness attained through the Spirit’s gifting and growth in the body.
Put Off Put On New Self
Approved rendering: پُرانہٕ اِنسان لاہنہٕ / نۄو اِنسان پہننہٕ
Transliteration: purānah insān lāhnah / nau insān pahnnah
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: ἀποθέσθαι τὸν παλαιὸν ἄνθρωπον / ἐνδύσασθαι τὸν καινὸν ἄνθρωπον
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Occurs at 4:22-24. Must be taught as decisive, Spirit-enabled transformation grounded in union with Christ (cf. ‘one new man,’ 2:15), not a self-improvement program achievable by disciplined religious effort.
Grieve Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: پاک روح مغموم کرُن
Transliteration: pāk rūḥ maghmūm karun
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Original: λυπεῖτε τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον
Category: God
NEW TERM combined with reused پاک روح. Occurs at 4:30. Reinforces the Holy Spirit’s personhood; the Spirit can be relationally grieved, unlike an impersonal force or the angel Gabriel.
Fragrant Offering Sacrifice
Approved rendering: قربانی
Transliteration: qurbānī
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: προσφορὰ καὶ θυσία εἰς ὀσμὴν εὐωδίας
Category: Christology
NEW TERM, deliberately retained as a chosen point of contact rather than paraphrased away. Occurs at 5:2, 5:25. One of the richest points of contact and collision in the whole curriculum given its centrality to Eid al-Adha practice; must be taught as pointing to Christ’s own unique, final, once-for-all self-offering, not one more instance of an already-satisfied sacrificial pattern.
Submission
Approved rendering: تابعداری
Transliteration: tābey’dārī
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Rejected alternatives: تسلیم (taslīm, root of the word ‘Islam,’ explicitly rejected to avoid conflating submission between believers/spouses with submission to God/Islam itself)
Original: ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις
Category: Household Relationships
NEW TERM. Occurs at 5:21-22, 6:1, 6:5. The mutuality of 5:21 (‘submit to one another’) must not be lost when the same root governs wives’ specific submission in 5:22.
Headship
Approved rendering: سربراہ
Transliteration: sarbarāh
Doctrine: Household Codes and Christ-Centered Relationships
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Household Relationships
NEW TERM. Occurs at 5:23, cf. 1:22, 4:15. Risk of defaulting toward the Islamic legal-authority concept of qawwāmah (Quran 4:34); Ephesians 5:25’s redefinition of headship as self-sacrificial, Christlike self-giving must be taught explicitly as reframing, not simply endorsing, an existing authority structure.
Armor Of God
Approved rendering: خُدایُک پوری زِرہ
Transliteration: Khudāyuk pūrī zirah
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: πανοπλία τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM. Occurs at 6:11, 6:13. Given Kashmir’s decades-long, literal, militarized conflict, this martial metaphor requires particular sensitivity — must be framed repeatedly as entirely spiritual and defensive, never as endorsement of literal violence or a coded reference to the region’s political-military conflict.
Not Against Flesh Blood
Approved rendering: جِسم تہٕ لہو خلاف نہٕ
Transliteration: jism tay lahū khilāf nah
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: οὐκ ἔστιν ἡμῖν ἡ πάλη πρὸς αἷμα καὶ σάρκα
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM. Occurs at 6:12. Pastorally critical in a region marked by real intercommunal and political conflict — must be translated and taught with unmistakable clarity that it forecloses, rather than spiritualizes away, any use of ‘spiritual warfare’ language to justify hostility toward actual neighbors of a different faith.
Cosmic Powers
Approved rendering: حکمرانی، اختیارات، دُنیاوی حاکم، بدی ہند روحانی طاقتہ
Transliteration: hukmrānī, ikhtiyārāt, dunyāwī hākim, badī hind rūḥānī tāqatah
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: ἀρχαί, ἐξουσίαι, κοσμοκράτορες τοῦ σκότους, πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW TERM. Occurs at 1:21 and 6:12. Genuine point of contact with widely-held belief in jinn and shayateen in regional Islamic folk and formal theology; Trika’s non-dualism denies any ultimate, independently real evil power of this kind, requiring separate explicit engagement for Pandit-background readers.
Fellow Heirs
Approved rendering: ہمگام وارث
Transliteration: hamgām wāris
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: συγκληρονόμα
Category: Church
NEW TERM, built on the وراثت root plus ہمگام (already used in the baseline’s mutual-edification doctrine name). Occurs at 3:6. Same fara’idh caution as inheritance; equal, not partial, covenant status must be stressed for Gentile believers.
Workmanship
Approved rendering: خُدایُک کاریگری
Transliteration: Khudāyuk kārīgarī
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: ποίημα
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Occurs at 2:10. Must be kept distinct from Trika’s ongoing self-manifestation (spanda) of undivided consciousness — this is a specific, personal, once-accomplished new creation of a distinct individual by a distinct Creator.
Medium Risk Terms
Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: روحانی نعمتہ
Transliteration: rūḥānī ni’amat
Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church
Rejected alternatives: کرامت (a Sufi saint’s miraculous gift/charism, avoid as the primary term)
Original: χάρισμα / δωρεά
Category: Church
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 4:7-11 as Christ’s ascension gifts to the church (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers). Must be kept distinct from karamat.
Church
Approved rendering: کلیسیا
Transliteration: kalīsiyā
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: مسجد (mosque, never use), مندر (temple, never use)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 1:22, 3:10, 3:21, 5:23-32 as Christ’s bride and body. Must remain distinct from مسجد and مندر.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: خُدایُک بادشاہت
Transliteration: Khudāyuk bādshāhat
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ Θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 5:5 (‘kingdom of Christ and God’). Must be distinguished from territorial-political framing given the region’s contested-sovereignty history.
Gentiles
Approved rendering: غیر-قوم
Transliteration: ghair-qaum
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 2:11, 3:1, 3:6, 3:8, central throughout Ephesians 2-3.
Prophet
Approved rendering: پیغمبر
Transliteration: paighambar
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: προφήτης
Category: Covenant
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 2:20, 3:5, 4:11 (as a named New Testament church office). Care that OT/NT prophets are not assumed to fit a Quranic prophetology model.
Covenant
Approved rendering: عہد
Transliteration: ‘ahd
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 2:12, ‘covenants of promise.‘
Intercession
Approved rendering: منٛزبولی
Transliteration: manzbolī
Doctrine: Prayer and Supplication in the Spirit
Rejected alternatives: شفاعت (a Sufi saint’s mediating intercession, avoid as a substitute)
Original: προσευχή / δέησις
Category: Faith
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 6:18, ‘praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.’ Kept distinct from shafa’at.
Mission
Approved rendering: انجیلہ ہنٛز منادی
Transliteration: Injīla hanz munādī
Doctrine: Gospel Ambassadorship in Chains
Original: εὐαγγελίζω / ἀποστολή
Category: Church
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 3:7-8 and the ‘ambassador in chains’ language of 6:19-20. Frame as gentle proclamation given regional sensitivity.
Israel
Approved rendering: اسرائیل
Transliteration: Isrā’īl
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: Ἰσραήλ
Category: Covenant
INHERITED FROM ROMANS PACKAGE, copied exactly. Occurs at 2:12, ‘commonwealth of Israel.’ Clarify the biblical covenant referent, distinct from the modern nation-state.
Guarantee Down Payment
Approved rendering: بیعانہٕ
Transliteration: bay’ānah
Doctrine: Election and Predestination in Christ
Rejected alternatives: ضِمانت (zamanat, considered, less precise commercially)
Original: ἀρραβών
Category: Salvation
NEW TERM. Occurs at 1:14, 4:30. Must be tied explicitly to پاک روح (Holy Spirit) so the ‘payment’ is understood as God’s own personal presence, not an abstract promise.
Dead In Trespasses
Approved rendering: گناہن منز مُردٕ
Transliteration: gunāhan manz mūrd
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: νεκροὺς τοῖς παραπτώμασιν
Category: Sin
NEW TERM. Occurs at 2:1, 2:5. Must not be softened to ‘weak’ or ‘sick’: both mainstream Islamic anthropology (fitrah) and Trika (innate, dormant divine consciousness) resist a ‘totally dead’ starting condition.
Household Of God
Approved rendering: خُدایُک کُٹُمب
Transliteration: Khudāyuk kuṭumb
Doctrine: The Church as the Body of Christ
Original: οἰκεῖοι τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Church

Original: βάπτισμα
Category: Church
NEW TERM, transliterated per existing regional Urdu/Kashmiri Christian Bible-translation convention. Occurs at 4:5, within the sevenfold unity confession. Must be distinguished from Islamic ritual ablution (wuzu/ghusl) — a unique, one-time, unrepeated act of incorporation into Christ.
Renewed In Mind
Approved rendering: دِماغَچ روحہٕ منز نۄو کرنہٕ
Transliteration: dimāghach rūḥah manz nau karnah
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life

Rejected alternatives: تقلید (taqlīd, the Islamic jurisprudential term for following a school of law’s rulings without independent legal reasoning, rejected)
Original: μιμηταὶ τοῦ Θεοῦ
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Occurs at 5:1. Must convey relational character-formation as God’s beloved children, not legalistic rule-following.
Sexual Immorality
Approved rendering: زِنا
Transliteration: zinā
Doctrine: Walking in Newness of Life
Original: πορνεία
Category: Sanctification
NEW TERM. Occurs at 5:3. Overlaps with a specific, severe hadd criminal-law category in Islamic jurisprudence; teaching should retain moral seriousness while framing pastorally around holiness and belonging.

Doctrine: Gifts for Building Up the Church

Stewardship
Approved rendering: انتظام
Transliteration: intizām
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Original: οἰκονομία
Category: Church
NEW TERM reusing the baseline providence root انتظام. Occurs at 3:2, 3:9. Describes Paul’s God-given administrative task of dispensing the revealed mystery, not an independent human authority.
Commonwealth Of Israel
Approved rendering: اسرائیلَچ قومیت
Transliteration: Isrā’īlach qaumiyat
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: πολιτεία τοῦ Ἰσραήλ
Category: Covenant
NEW compound built on reused اسرائیل plus قومیت (citizenship/nationhood). Occurs at 2:12. Must clarify this is the covenant people, not the modern nation-state, given regional geopolitical sensitivity.
Covenants Of Promise

Transliteration: ‘ahd tay wa’dah
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles in One New Humanity
Original: διαθῆκαι τῆς ἐπαγγελίας

NEW compound. Occurs at 3:10. حکمت is also a major virtue-term in Islamic theology, a genuine point of contact, but should be anchored specifically to this display-through-the-church sense.
Belt Of Truth
Approved rendering: سچائیہ ہنٛز کمربند
Transliteration: sachā’iya hanz kamarband
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God
Original: τὴν ὀσφὺν ὑμῶν ἐν ἀληθείᾳ
