HIGH RISK: ‘pacto’ in everyday and folk-religious Spanish can carry occult connotations (pacto con el diablo, a bargain with a spirit for power or favor). Every occurrence describing God’s covenant with David or Israel must be anchored to a relational, unilateral divine promise, not a negotiated bargain.
