Covenant

A native Pashto word for a solemn pact, resonant with Pashtunwali’s own serious customary treaty-making between feuding parties. The risk: such pacts are typically negotiated between relative equals and can be revoked under certain conditions, whereas the biblical covenant is unilaterally initiated and graciously given by a sovereign God, not negotiated - this distinction must be taught explicitly.
