kanisa is the standard, well-established Christian term (distinct from msikiti, mosque, which must never be confused). Primary risk is that kanisa defaults to institutional or denominational reference (a specific building or organized body, e.g. Kanisa Katoliki, Kanisa la Kiinjili) rather than Romans’ sense of the whole people of God; kusanyiko (assembly/gathering) is a useful clarifying synonym for the local congregation sense.
