God’s sovereign, gracious choice. ‘Vyvolení’/‘vyvolený’ are used in ordinary Czech for being selected or chosen in a secular competitive sense (a job selection process, a sports team). Romans 9-11’s argument requires active distinction from this achievement-oriented secular sense.
