Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Ephesians (Full Book)
English → Tamil | Ephesians | Language Package
Curriculum scope: Ephesians 1–6, full book. Core passage (theological anchor, not scope boundary): Ephesians 2:1-10.
Baseline: Terms marked (baseline) are reused exactly from the Tamil Romans Language Package (language-packages/tamil/translation_memory.json) and must never be re-derived. Terms marked (new) are introduced by Ephesians and fully analyzed in 07_semantic_analysis.md.
Consistency note: every entry below reproduces the Tamil rendering and risk tier exactly as recorded in translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json (82 terms total: 36 baseline, 46 new). This glossary organizes those same 82 terms by the chapter in which each is introduced or first becomes load-bearing; recurring chapters are noted per term. No chapter is silently omitted.

Chapter 1 doctrinal spine: every spiritual blessing (1:3) is traced to election (1:4), predestination (1:5), redemption (1:7), the mystery of God’s will (1:9-10), inheritance and sealing (1:11-14), culminating in Paul’s prayer that readers know the hope, the riches of the inheritance, and the power at work in Christ’s resurrection and exaltation (1:15-23). See 07_semantic_analysis.md §1 for full term-by-term treatment, including the four-word power cluster (ἐνέργεια, κράτος, ἰσχύς, δύναμις, 1:19-20) which intensifies but does not add a new TM-keyed term beyond power_of_god.

Chapter 2 doctrinal spine: grace-alone salvation (2:1-10) and Jew-Gentile reconciliation into one new humanity (2:11-22) are the letter’s twin foundational claims, sharing one grammar (God’s initiative, Christ’s finished work, a wholly reconstituted status — “made alive,” “one new man”). See 07_semantic_analysis.md §2 for the full verse-by-verse treatment.
3. Chapter 3 glossary — the mystery of the gospel; Paul’s prayer
Full-book coverage note: chapter 3 introduces no new translation-memory-keyed terms. It develops, at greater depth, three terms already seeded in chapters 1–2 — mystery (μυστήριον, now given its specific content: Gentiles as fellow heirs, fellow members, fellow partakers, 3:6), plan of God (οἰκονομία, now including Paul’s personal stewardship, 3:2), and gentiles (ἔθνη, 3:6, 3:8) — and continues grace, faith, fullness, power of God, Father, glory at their established renderings. This is explicitly noted here rather than omitted, per the Full-Book Coverage mandate.
The chapter’s three σύν- compounds (συγκληρονόμα, σύσσωμα, συμμέτοχα — “fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, fellow partakers,” 3:6) and its prayer vocabulary (παρρησία, “boldness/access,” 3:12; the four-dimensional “breadth and length and height and depth,” 3:18) are analyzed in full in 07_semantic_analysis.md §3 but are treated there as elaborations of the existing mystery and gentiles entries rather than separately keyed TM terms, consistent with bible_term_registry.json’s existing 82-term scope. Should Phase 2 translation work on chapter 3 material surface a genuine need for a standalone entry (e.g. for the fellow-heir triad), it must be added to translation_memory.json at that time per the Step 9 “Extend” rule, with the version number incremented — not introduced silently in this glossary.
4. Chapter 4 glossary — unity of the Spirit; gifts for ministry; new self versus old self
9 new terms are introduced in chapter 4, alongside baseline terms newly load-bearing here.

| old self | παλαιὸς ἄνθρωπος | palaios anthrōpos | old (worn-out) human | old self | பழைய மனுஷன் | new | High |
Chapter 4 doctrinal spine: the sevenfold unity confession (4:4-6: one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father) grounds the practical unity Paul commands (4:1-3), which Christ’s gift-offices serve (4:7-16), which in turn demands the decisive break from the old self for the new (4:17-32). See 07_semantic_analysis.md §4 for the full vice-and-virtue list (4:25-32) and the sevenfold list’s exclusivity risk.
5. Chapter 5 glossary — walking in love and light; the Spirit-filled household

| wrath of God (recurs, 5:6) | ὀργή | orgē | settled anger | wrath | கோபாக்கினை | baseline (recurs) | High |
Chapter 5 doctrinal spine: the walk of love and light (5:1-14) culminates in Spirit-filled, mutually submissive worship (5:15-21), which frames the household code’s marriage section (5:22-33), the letter’s most culturally sensitive unit in the Tamil context. See 07_semantic_analysis.md §5 for the full Critical-risk treatment of 5:21-33.
6. Chapter 6 glossary — household code concluded; the armor of God
2 new terms are introduced in chapter 6, alongside baseline/recurring terms newly load-bearing here.

| Lord (recurs, “be strong in the Lord”) | κύριος | kyrios | supreme authority | Lord | கர்த்தர் | baseline (recurs) | Critical |
Chapter 6 doctrinal spine: the household code’s final two units (children/parents 6:1-4; slaves/masters 6:5-9, the latter High risk given Tamil Nadu’s own caste-labor history — see 11_doctrine_analysis.md) resolve into the letter’s closing charge: stand firm, armored in gospel realities, against organized spiritual opposition (6:10-20), before Paul’s personal closing greeting (6:21-24). See 07_semantic_analysis.md §6 for the full armor-piece integration check.
7. Usage frequency notes (Ephesians)

| Χριστός (Christ) | 46 | Highest density of any Pauline letter |
8. Translation risk summary for the core glossary
Highest-risk decisions across the full book (full rationale in 07_semantic_analysis.md and 06_linguistic_gap_analysis.md):
- Predestination (ch. 1: προορίζω → முன்குறித்தல்) — Critical. Must never touch தலைவிதி, விதி, ஊழ்/ஊழ்வினை (fatalism/karma vocabulary). Personal, loving, purposive divine choice.
- Made alive/raised/seated WITH Christ (ch. 2: 2:5-6) — Critical. The கூட (“with”) element must survive all three verbs; resurrection vocabulary must never drift to மறுபிறவி.
- Gift (ch. 2: δῶρον → ஈவு) — High. Never வரம் (boon granted in response to penance/vow — a merited transaction).
- Fullness (chs. 1/3: πλήρωμα → பரிபூரணம்) — High. Established term, but guard against Vedantic pūrṇam merger-reading in 3:19.
- Mystery (chs. 1/3/5/6: μυστήριον → இரகசியம்) — High. Openly revealed plan, not esoteric initiate knowledge (மறைஞானம் rejected).
- Redemption (ch. 1: ἀπολύτρωσις → மீட்பு) — High. Never விடுதலை (political/moksha liberation) or முக்தி.
- Good works (ch. 2: ἔργα ἀγαθά → நற்கிரியைகள்) — High. Fruit prepared by God, never புண்ணியம் (merit accumulation).
- One new man / body without rank (ch. 2/4: καινὸς ἄνθρωπος, σῶμα) — High. Never let member-difference read as Purusha-Sukta-style caste rank.
- Sevenfold unity’s exclusivity (ch. 4: ἑνότης, εἷς/μία list) — High. “One Lord, one faith, one baptism” excludes pluralist “one path among many” readings.
- Marriage as Christ-church typology (ch. 5: 5:21-33) — Critical. Mutual submission (5:21) and the husband’s self-sacrificial love (5:25) must not be lost beneath 5:22’s submission language alone.
- Slaves and masters (ch. 6: 6:5-9) — High. The reciprocal, authority-constraining instruction to masters (6:9) must be retained at full force, given Tamil Nadu’s own caste-labor history.
- Armor of God (ch. 6: πανοπλία τοῦ θεοῦ) — High. Gospel realities appropriated by faith, never a Christianized amulet-set.
All terms in this glossary are seeded into translation_memory.json per PRD Step 1, and are consistent with bible_term_registry.json per PRD Step 2.

Transliteration: neethi
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: தர்மம், புண்ணியம்
Original: δικαιοσύνη

Transliteration: neethimanaakkappaduthal
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: மன்னிப்பு பெறுதல்

Salvation
Approved rendering: இரட்சிப்பு
Transliteration: iratchippu
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: மோட்சம், முக்தி
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: NEVER மோட்சம்/முக்தி. Ephesians-specific: 2:5, 2:8 are perfect periphrastics — இரட்சிக்கப்பட்டீர்கள் must keep completed-state force, never future aspiration.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: உயிர்த்தெழுதல்
Transliteration: uyirthezhuthal
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: மறுபிறவி
Original: ἐγείρω / ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology

Transliteration: dehadharanam
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: அவதாரம்
Original: ὁ λόγος σὰρξ ἐγένετο

Messiah
Approved rendering: மேசியா
Transliteration: mesiya
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: Χριστός / מָשִׁיחַ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Used alongside கிறிஸ்து; ‘Christ’ occurs 46 times in Ephesians.

Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς / יֵשׁוּעַ
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Established Tamil Christian standard form.
God
Approved rendering: கடவுள்
Transliteration: kadavul
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: தேவன், பரமேஸ்வரன், பகவான்
Original: θεός / אֱלֹהִים / יהוה
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, including the deliberate break from Tamil Bible precedent: கடவுள், NEVER தேவன் (denotes a deva within the pantheon — henotheism risk), NEVER பரமேஸ்வரன் (Shiva epithet) or பகவான். The single most consequential consistency rule; flag any தேவன் occurrence in drafts or reference matter.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவர்
Transliteration: Parisutha Aaviyanavar
Doctrine: Personhood and Sealing of the Holy Spirit
Rejected alternatives: பிரம்மம், பரமாத்மா
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: never பிரம்மம்/பரமாத்மா. Ephesians is Spirit-dense: seal and earnest (1:13-14), access (2:18), grievable person (4:30), filling (5:18) — personal verbs must stay personal.
Father
Approved rendering: பிதா
Transliteration: pitha
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1:3; 3:14-15; 4:6 (one God and Father of all).
Made Alive With Christ
Approved rendering: கிறிஸ்துவுடனேகூட உயிர்ப்பித்தல்
Transliteration: Kiristhuvudanekooda uyirppiththal
Doctrine: Regeneration and Union with Christ
Rejected alternatives: மறுபிறவி அடைதல், புதுப்பிறவி
Original: συνεζωοποίησεν
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (2:5, συνεζωοποίησεν). CRITICAL: the கூட (‘with’) element must survive — union with Christ is the mechanism of grace. Vivification stays in the உயிர்-family; NEVER rebirth (மறுபிறவி/பிறவி) vocabulary.
Raised And Seated With Christ
Approved rendering: கூட எழுப்பி உன்னதங்களில் கூட உட்காரவைத்தல்
Transliteration: kooda ezhuppi unnathangalil kooda utkaaravaiththal
Doctrine: Regeneration and Union with Christ
Original: συνήγειρεν καὶ συνεκάθισεν
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (2:6, συνήγειρεν καὶ συνεκάθισεν). Both σύν-compounds keep கூட; the 1:20 → 2:6 verb echo (what God did to Christ, he did to believers with Christ) must use identical Tamil verb roots. Present accomplished position, not future aspiration.
Predestination
Approved rendering: முன்குறித்தல்
Transliteration: munkuriththal
Doctrine: Election and Predestination
Rejected alternatives: தலைவிதி, விதி, ஊழ், ஊழ்வினை
Original: προορίζω
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (1:5, 1:11, προορίζω); the highest-stakes new vocabulary decision. Established OV form (முன்குறித்திருக்கிறார்). NEVER தலைவிதி (‘forehead-writing’), விதி, ஊழ்/ஊழ்வினை. Every rendering keeps four anchors: personal subject (கடவுள்), sphere (கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள்), motive (அன்பில்), goal (adoption/holiness). A Father’s loving plan, not a script.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: சுவிசேஷம்
Transliteration: suvisesham
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: நல்ல செய்தி
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In Ephesians: gospel of your salvation (1:13), gospel of peace (6:15).
Grace

Transliteration: kirupai
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: புண்ணியம், ஊழ்வினை பலன், அருள்
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. 12 occurrences in Ephesians; 2:8-9 is the enforcement epicenter. NEVER புண்ணியம் (merit) or ஊழ்வினை பலன் (karma-fruit). The Sri Vaishnava prapatti debate is a comparison point, not an equivalent: Christian கிருபை comes through faith in Christ’s finished work, not ritual surrender. அருள் (Catholic liturgical register) not used in this package’s doctrinal prose.
Faith
Approved rendering: விசுவாசம்
Transliteration: vishvasam
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: பக்தி
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. In 2:8 the instrument, not the ground, of salvation; பக்தி (bhakti) would re-classify faith as a devotional work — exactly what 2:9 excludes.

Transliteration: azhaikkappatta
Doctrine: Hope of Calling
Rejected alternatives: அழைப்பு பெற்ற
Original: κλητός / καλέω

Peace
Approved rendering: சமாதானம்
Transliteration: samadhanam
Doctrine: Reconciliation
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package; risk raised Medium→High for this curriculum: Ephesians 2:14 makes peace a PERSON (Christ himself is our peace) and the ground of Jew-Gentile unity. Not psychological calm.
Church
Approved rendering: சபை
Transliteration: sabai
Doctrine: Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: கோவில்
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package; risk raised Medium→High for this curriculum: the church is Ephesians’ central subject (1:22; 3:10, 3:21; 5:23-32). சபை (assembly), distinct from ஆலயம் (building), never கோவில்.
Law
Approved rendering: நியாயப்பிரமாணம்
Transliteration: niyayapramanam
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: தர்மம்
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER தர்மம். Ephesians 2:15: the law of commandments in ordinances, set aside to create one new man.
Sin
Approved rendering: பாவம்
Transliteration: paavam
Doctrine: Regeneration from Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: தீவினை
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Moral transgression before the personal கடவுள், never karmic debit; paired with trespasses at 2:1.
Gentiles
Approved rendering: புறஜாதியார்
Transliteration: purajathiyar
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. ஜாதி-adjacency caution intensified: Ephesians 2-3 makes Gentile inclusion the letter’s center; every occurrence needs the caste-misreading check.
Glory
Approved rendering: மகிமை
Transliteration: magimai
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 1’s refrain: to the praise of his glory (1:6, 1:12, 1:14).
Power Of God
Approved rendering: தேவனுடைய வல்லமை
Transliteration: Devanudaiya Vallamai
Doctrine: Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: சக்தி
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God

Covenant
Approved rendering: உடன்படிக்கை
Transliteration: udanpadikkai
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: ஒப்பந்தம்
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Ephesians 2:12: covenants of promise; relational bond, not commercial contract.
Election
Approved rendering: தெரிந்துகொள்ளுதல்
Transliteration: therinthu-kolluthal
Doctrine: Election and Predestination
Rejected alternatives: தலைவிதி, ஊழ்வினை
Original: ἐκλέγομαι / ἐκλογή
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER தலைவிதி or ஊழ்வினை. Ephesians 1:4: chosen in Christ, before the foundation of the world, in love, to be holy — keep all four anchors.
Providence
Approved rendering: தேவனுடைய பராமரிப்பு
Transliteration: Devanudaiya Paramarippu
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plan
Rejected alternatives: ஊழ்
Original: πρόνοια (cf. Ephesians 1:11’s ‘works all things according to the counsel of his will’)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Never ஊழ் (Thirukkural fate concept). Ephesians 1:11: works all things according to the counsel of his will.
Trespass
Approved rendering: அக்கிரமம்
Transliteration: akkiramam
Doctrine: Regeneration from Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: தீவினை
Original: παράπτωμα
Category: Sin
New in Ephesians package (2:1, 2:5; 1:7). Established OV pairing அக்கிரமங்களினாலும் பாவங்களினாலும். Never தீவினை (karmic bad action).
Spiritually Dead
Approved rendering: மரித்தவர்கள்
Transliteration: marithavarkal
Doctrine: Regeneration from Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: பலவீனமான, உறங்குகிற
Original: νεκρός
Category: Sin
New in Ephesians package (2:1, 2:5). Real, present separation from God’s life — the subject contributes nothing to rescue. Never soften to ‘weak’ or ‘asleep’; never let the rebirth frame read death as a station in a cycle.
Flesh
Approved rendering: மாம்சம்
Transliteration: maamsam
Doctrine: Regeneration from Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: உடல்
Original: σάρξ
Category: Sin
New in Ephesians package (2:3). Fallen nature expressing itself in body AND mind (τῶν διανοιῶν), not the physical body; guard against the Tamil ascetic (தவம்/Siddhar) body-negation reading. Never உடல் alone.
Wrath Of God
Approved rendering: கோபாக்கினை
Transliteration: kopaakkinai
Doctrine: Wrath of God
Rejected alternatives: கோபம்
Original: ὀργή
Category: God
New in Ephesians package (2:3 ‘children of wrath’; 5:6). The compound (anger + judgment) is load-bearing: judicial verdict of the holy கடவுள், never capricious deity-anger in the Amman-appeasement pattern. Never simplify to bare கோபம். ‘By nature’ = சுபாவத்தினாலே, excluding karmic accumulation.
Heavenly Places
Approved rendering: உன்னதங்களில்
Transliteration: unnathangalil
Doctrine: Exaltation of Christ
Rejected alternatives: சொர்க்கம், சுவர்க்கம், பரலோகம்
Original: ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις
Category: Eschatology
New in Ephesians package (1:3, 1:20; 2:6; 3:10; 6:12 — the letter’s signature phrase). Established OV term. NEVER சொர்க்கம்/சுவர்க்கம் (svarga: merit-funded, temporary heaven); பரலோகம் reserved for ‘heaven’ generally, not this phrase.
Gift
Approved rendering: ஈவு
Transliteration: eevu
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: வரம், பரிசு
Original: δῶρον
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (2:8, θεοῦ τὸ δῶρον). Established OV term at this verse. NEVER வரம் — the Tamil devotional boon is granted in response to penance/vow, a merited transaction, the exact opposite of the verse. பரிசு (prize) also rejected. The neuter τοῦτο refers to the whole grace-salvation-through-faith package; keep அது clause-wide.
Works
Approved rendering: கிரியைகள்
Transliteration: kiriyaikal
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Rejected alternatives: புண்ணியம், கர்மம்
Original: ἔργα
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (2:9 ‘not of works’). NEVER புண்ணியம் (merit) or கர்மம் — the merit-accounting framework is what the verse excludes. Note Saiva Siddhanta uses கிரியை technically for ritual action; context keeps the Christian sense clear.
Good Works
Approved rendering: நற்கிரியைகள்
Transliteration: narkiriyaikal
Doctrine: Good Works as Fruit
Rejected alternatives: புண்ணியம், புண்ணிய காரியங்கள்
Original: ἔργα ἀγαθά
Category: Sanctification
New in Ephesians package (2:10). The curriculum’s most merit-vulnerable verse: works are God-prepared FRUIT of salvation, never its cause. Tamil word order and connectives must keep works downstream of grace.
Prepared Beforehand
Approved rendering: முன்னதாக ஆயத்தம்பண்ணுதல்
Transliteration: munnathaaga aayathampannuthal
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plan
Rejected alternatives: தலைவிதி, விதி
Original: προετοιμάζω
Category: God
New in Ephesians package (2:10, προητοίμασεν). Personal, purposive advance provision; NEVER fatalism vocabulary.
Mystery
Approved rendering: இரகசியம்
Transliteration: irakasiyam
Doctrine: Mystery of God’s Will
Rejected alternatives: மறைஞானம், மறைபொருள்
Original: μυστήριον
Category: God
New in Ephesians package (1:9; 3:3-4, 3:9; 5:32; 6:19 — more than any NT book). God’s once-hidden plan NOW OPENLY REVEALED (Gentile co-inclusion, 3:6), proclaimed to everyone (3:9). NEVER மறைஞானம் (esoteric gnosis); do not let இரகசியம் read as guarded initiate knowledge — keep ‘made known/revealed’ context attached.
Fullness
Approved rendering: பரிபூரணம்
Transliteration: paripooranam
Doctrine: Fullness of Christ
Original: πλήρωμα
Category: Christology
New in Ephesians package (1:10, 1:23; 3:19; 4:13). Established OV term, kept — but பூரணம் is Vedantic pūrṇam vocabulary; 3:19 must remain relational indwelling by the personal God, never ontological merger. Never pair with merger verbs (கலத்தல்); prefer வாசம்பண்ணுதல் (indwell) framing.
Redemption
Approved rendering: மீட்பு
Transliteration: meetpu
Doctrine: Redemption through Christ’s Blood
Rejected alternatives: விடுதலை, முக்தி
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (1:7, 1:14; 4:30, ἀπολύτρωσις). மீட்பு preserves the costly ransom-payment shape (‘through his blood’). NEVER விடுதலை (moksha-adjacent AND loaded Dravidian political liberation vocabulary) or முக்தி. Note: the Galatians curriculum uses விடுதலை for ἐλευθερία (freedom) — a different Greek term; redemption here must remain மீட்பு.
Blood Of Christ
Approved rendering: கிறிஸ்துவின் இரத்தம்
Transliteration: Kiristhuvin iratham
Doctrine: Redemption through Christ’s Blood
Original: αἷμα τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (1:7; 2:13). Once-for-all, self-given, sufficient sacrifice; context must carry finality, never the recurring-appeasement pattern of village shrine offerings.
Inheritance
Approved rendering: சுதந்தரம்
Transliteration: suthantharam
Doctrine: Inheritance of the Saints
Rejected alternatives: சுதந்திரம், சொத்து
Original: κληρονομία
Category: Covenant
New in Ephesians package (1:11, 1:14, 1:18; 5:5). Established OV term. HOMOGRAPH GUARD: சுதந்திரம் (one letter different) means ‘freedom/independence’ in modern Tamil — enforce spelling, flag ‘freedom’ drift in back-translation. Not prosperity-transactional சொத்து (property) framing.
Sealed With The Spirit
Approved rendering: முத்திரையிடப்படுதல்
Transliteration: muthiraiyidappaduthal
Doctrine: Sealing and Assurance
Original: σφραγίζω
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (1:13; 4:30). God’s ownership-seal; முத்திரை is natively vivid from Tamil document/registration culture. Assurance rests on God’s act, not the believer’s progress — no gradualist multi-lifetime framing.
Hope
Approved rendering: நம்பிக்கை
Transliteration: nambikkai
Doctrine: Hope of Calling
Rejected alternatives: ஆசை
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Faith
New in Ephesians package (1:18; 2:12; 4:4). நம்பிக்கை spans certainty-to-wishfulness in ordinary Tamil; context must carry promise-grounded certainty. 2:12 defines the Gentile past by hope’s ABSENCE — keep the contrast sharp. Never ஆசை (desire/wish).
Body Of Christ
Approved rendering: கிறிஸ்துவின் சரீரம்
Transliteration: Kiristhuvin sareeram
Doctrine: Church as the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: உடல்
Original: σῶμα τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (1:23; 4:4, 4:12, 4:16; 5:23, 5:30). Formal சரீரம் per Bible register. Anti-rank guard: the dominant cultural body-metaphor (Purusha Sukta) ranks castes by body part; Ephesians’ body has difference WITHOUT rank — members (அவயவங்கள்) differ in function, never in worth.
Head Of The Church
Approved rendering: தலை
Transliteration: thalai
Doctrine: Headship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: தலைவர்
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Christology
New in Ephesians package (1:22; 4:15-16; 5:23). Anatomical/organic தலை, keeping both authority and growth-source (4:16). Avoid தலைவர் (political ‘leader’, heavy Dravidian-party resonance). At 5:23 the husband-parallel always travels with the savior-of-the-body clause and 5:25.
Reconciliation
Approved rendering: ஒப்புரவாக்குதல்
Transliteration: oppuravaakkuthal
Doctrine: Reconciliation
Original: ἀποκαταλλάσσω
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (2:16, ἀποκαταλλάσσω). Established OV term. Double object preserved: both peoples reconciled to God AND to each other in one body through the cross — the horizontal dimension is a direct anti-caste-division claim in the Tamil context.
New Man
Approved rendering: புதிய மனுஷன்
Transliteration: puthiya manushan
Doctrine: New Creation and the New Self
Rejected alternatives: மறுபிறவி மனிதன்
Original: καινὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Sanctification
New in Ephesians package (2:15 one new humanity; 4:24 new self). Creation vocabulary (சிருஷ்டிக்கப்பட்ட), never rebirth vocabulary and never ascetic self-remaking framing.
Temple
Approved rendering: ஆலயம்
Transliteration: aalayam
Doctrine: Church as God’s Temple
Rejected alternatives: கோவில்
Original: ναός
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (2:21-22). NEVER கோவில் (Hindu temple). The doctrinal point — God’s dwelling is now a Spirit-indwelt people, not a building with image, sanctum, and entry rights — is load-bearing in temple-dense Tamil Nadu.
Unity
Approved rendering: ஒற்றுமை
Transliteration: otrumai
Doctrine: Unity of the Spirit
Rejected alternatives: ஐக்கியம்
Original: ἑνότης
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (4:3, 4:13, ἑνότης). ஒற்றுமை for henotēs; ஐக்கியம் stays reserved for fellowship (inherited TM) and carries Saiva union-with-God overtones in this doctrinal position. The 4:4-6 sevenfold ‘one’ excludes pluralism — do not soften.
Devil
Approved rendering: பிசாசு
Transliteration: pisaasu
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare
Rejected alternatives: பேய்
Original: διάβολος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
New in Ephesians package (4:27; 6:11, διάβολος). Established Tamil Christian term, singular and definite. NOT another spirit within the folk taxonomy (பேய், முனி, மோகினி) to be ritually managed; one defeated personal adversary whose schemes (தந்திரங்கள்) are primarily deception.
Ruler Of The Air
Approved rendering: ஆகாயத்து அதிகாரப் பிரபு
Transliteration: aakaayaththu athikaara pirabhu
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare
Original: ὁ ἄρχων τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος
Category: Spiritual Warfare
New in Ephesians package (2:2). Established OV rendering. Present him as defeated by Christ’s exaltation (1:20-22), never an unconquered rival power.
Principalities And Powers
Approved rendering: துரைத்தனங்களும் அதிகாரங்களும்
Transliteration: thuraithanangalum athikaarangalum
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare
Original: ἀρχαὶ καὶ ἐξουσίαι
Category: Spiritual Warfare
New in Ephesians package (1:21; 3:10; 6:12). Established OV compounds. Do not map onto the village spirit-taxonomy or onto deities; these are subjugated powers under Christ’s feet. 6:12’s ‘not against flesh and blood’ (மாம்சத்தோடும் இரத்தத்தோடும் அல்ல) must stay sharp — the enemies are never other people or communities.
Armor Of God
Approved rendering: கடவுளுடைய சர்வாயுதவர்க்கம்
Transliteration: Kadavuludaiya sarvaayudha varkkam
Doctrine: Spiritual Warfare
Original: πανοπλία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Spiritual Warfare
New in Ephesians package (6:11, 6:13). Established OV compound (adjusted to the package’s God-word: கடவுளுடைய). Gospel realities appropriated by faith — truth, நீதி, the gospel of peace, விசுவாசம், இரட்சிப்பு, the word, prayer — NEVER a Christianized amulet-set (தாயத்து framework). Armor-piece names reuse TM terms, keeping cross-links intact.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle
Approved rendering: அப்போஸ்தலன்
Transliteration: appostalan
Doctrine: Christ’s Gift-Offices
Rejected alternatives: குரு
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER குரு. In Ephesians: 1:1; foundation (2:20; 3:5); gift-office (4:11).
Israel
Approved rendering: இஸ்ரவேல்

Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Original: יִשְׂרָאֵל / Ἰσραήλ
Category: Covenant

Approved rendering: தீர்க்கதரிசி
Transliteration: theerkkadharisi
Doctrine: Christ’s Gift-Offices
Rejected alternatives: ஜோசியன்
Original: προφήτης

Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: ஆவிக்குரிய வரங்கள்
Transliteration: aavikkuriya varangal
Doctrine: Christ’s Gift-Offices
Rejected alternatives: வரம்
Original: χαρίσματα / δόματα

Transliteration: Devanudaiya Rajyam
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plan
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom

Mercy
Approved rendering: இரக்கம்
Transliteration: irakkam
Doctrine: Love of God and Christ
Original: ἔλεος
Category: God
New in Ephesians package (2:4 ‘rich in mercy’ = இரக்கத்தில் ஐசுவரியமுள்ள). Keep distinct from கிருபை (grace); do not collapse the pair.
Love
Approved rendering: அன்பு
Transliteration: anbu
Doctrine: Love of God and Christ
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: God
New in Ephesians package (1:4-5; 2:4; 3:17-19; 4:16; 5:2, 5:25). Deep Tamil resonance is an asset; only guard: the Saiva formula அன்பே சிவம் must not color 2:4/3:19 into pantheistic identification — love is the personal God’s motive toward specific people.
Workmanship
Approved rendering: அவருடைய செய்கை
Transliteration: avarudaiya seykai
Doctrine: New Creation and the New Self
Rejected alternatives: கர்மம், கருமம்
Original: ποίημα
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (2:10, ποίημα). God’s handiwork per the established Tamil Bible; never karma-adjacent deed-vocabulary or anything implying the believer’s own production.
Course Of This World
Approved rendering: இந்த உலக போக்கு
Transliteration: intha ulaga pokku
Doctrine: Regeneration from Spiritual Death
Rejected alternatives: யுகம்
Original: ὁ αἰὼν τοῦ κόσμου τούτου
Category: Sin
New in Ephesians package (2:2, ὁ αἰὼν τοῦ κόσμου τούτου). NEVER யுகம் — yuga vocabulary imports Hindu cyclical-age cosmology; this is a moral orientation of the present world. Likewise 2:7’s ‘ages to come’ = வருங்காலங்களில், not yuga terms.
Plan Of God
Approved rendering: திட்டம்
Transliteration: thittam
Doctrine: God’s Sovereign Plan
Rejected alternatives: விதி
Original: οἰκονομία
Category: God
New in Ephesians package (οἰκονομία: 1:10; 3:9 = plan; 3:2 = stewardship, use பொறுப்பு there — context-sensitive). A single linear purposive plan; never விதி (destiny).
Forgiveness
Approved rendering: மன்னிப்பு
Transliteration: mannippu
Doctrine: Forgiveness
Original: ἄφεσις
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (1:7; 4:32). Clear and established. Per inherited rule, மன்னிப்பு alone never substitutes for redemption (மீட்பு) or justification vocabulary. 4:32’s order preserved: forgive AS God in Christ forgave you.
Guarantee Of The Spirit
Approved rendering: அச்சாரம்
Transliteration: achcharam
Doctrine: Sealing and Assurance
Original: ἀρραβών
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (1:14, ἀρραβών). Established OV term AND living Tamil commercial vocabulary for earnest money — the metaphor lands natively with no explanation.
Household Of God
Approved rendering: கடவுளுடைய வீட்டார்
Transliteration: Kadavuludaiya veettaar
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Original: οἰκεῖοι τοῦ θεοῦ / συμπολῖται
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (2:19, with fellow-citizens phrase பரிசுத்தவான்களோடே ஒரே நகரத்தார் per OV structure). Warm kinship register, an asset in family-centric Tamil culture; carries displacement resonance for Sri Lankan Tamil readers.
Cornerstone
Approved rendering: மூலைக்கல்
Transliteration: moolaikkal
Doctrine: Church as God’s Temple
Original: ἀκρογωνιαῖος
Category: Christology
New in Ephesians package (2:20, citing Isaiah 28:16). Established term; keep the Isaiah citation link intact.
Baptism

Transliteration: gnanasnanam
Doctrine: Baptism
Rejected alternatives: தீர்த்தம், புனித நீராடல்
Original: βάπτισμα
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (4:5). Established Tamil Protestant term (Catholic register uses திருமுழுக்கு — do not mix registers within a document set). Never sacred-bathing (tirtha) framing: covenant initiation, not repeatable purification.
Evangelist
Approved rendering: சுவிசேஷகர்
Transliteration: suviseshakar
Doctrine: Christ’s Gift-Offices
Rejected alternatives: குரு
Original: εὐαγγελιστής
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (4:11). Derived from inherited சுவிசேஷம்; never குரு.
Pastor
Approved rendering: மேய்ப்பர்
Transliteration: meyppar
Doctrine: Christ’s Gift-Offices
Rejected alternatives: குரு
Original: ποιμήν
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (4:11, ποιμήν). Established OV rendering at this verse (shepherd). Never குரு — the guru-sishya frame flattens the gift-office into spiritual-master status.
Teacher
Approved rendering: போதகர்
Transliteration: bothakar
Doctrine: Christ’s Gift-Offices
Rejected alternatives: குரு, ஆசான்
Original: διδάσκαλος
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (4:11, διδάσκαλος). Established OV rendering at this verse. Never குரு.
Sacrifice
Approved rendering: பலி
Transliteration: pali
Doctrine: Redemption through Christ’s Blood
Original: θυσία
Category: Salvation
New in Ephesians package (5:2, θυσία). பலி commonly denotes recurring animal sacrifice at village shrines; Christ’s is self-given and once-for-all — add finality qualifiers (ஒரே தரம்) where the source implies them.
Submission
Approved rendering: கீழ்ப்படிதல்
Transliteration: keezhppadithal
Doctrine: Household Code
Rejected alternatives: அடிமைத்தனம்
Original: ὑποτάσσω
Category: Church
New in Ephesians package (5:21-24; ὑποτάσσω). Voluntary ordering under another, headed by 5:21’s MUTUAL submission out of reverence for Christ. Keep every reciprocal clause (5:25 husband’s self-sacrificial love; 6:9 same Master); never servility (அடிமைத்தனம்) or caste-service framing.
Low Risk Terms
Boast
Approved rendering: மேன்மைபாராட்டுதல்
Transliteration: menmai-paraattuthal
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace through Faith
Original: καυχάομαι
Category: Sin
New in Ephesians package (2:9). Established rendering; low ambiguity.

Transliteration: nadaththal
Doctrine: The Worthy Walk
Rejected alternatives: மார்க்கத்தில் செல்லுதல்
Original: περιπατέω
