Core Glossary

Core Glossary: 1 Thessalonians (English–Telugu)

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning 1 Thessalonians chapters 1–5. It is organized into two sections:

  • Section A — terms already established in the baseline Romans Language Package and reused exactly without modification, per the hard rule governing this pipeline.
  • Section B — new terms required specifically for this curriculum’s doctrines (The Return of Christ, Resurrection of Believers, Sanctification, Hope in Grief, The Day of the Lord), proposed here for adoption into this curriculum’s translation memory in Phase 1 Step 2.

All risk tiers use the same four-tier scale as the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json (Critical / High / Medium / Low).

Section B — New Terms for This Curriculum (1 Thessalonians)

English TermGreek (translit.)Telugu RenderingTransliterationRiskDoctrine LinkKey PassagesRationale / Risk Notes
Coming of the Lord (Parousia)παρουσία (parousia)ప్రభువు రాకడPrabhuvu rākaḍaCriticalThe Return of Christ2:19; 3:13; 4:15; 5:23Established Telugu Christian technical term for Christ’s advent. Must not be read against the live cultural backdrop of Kalki-avatara expectation (a future, age-ending descent of Vishnu associated with the Tirupati/Venkateswara tradition); this is the unique, one-time, bodily return of the same Lord who already permanently took on flesh (శరీరధారణ).
Descend (of the Lord)καταβήσεται (katabēsetai)దిగివచ్చునుdigivachunuCriticalThe Return of Christ4:16NEVER అవతరించును — that verb shares its root with the baseline’s forbidden అవతారం (incarnation/avatara). Using it here would import avatara-cycle connotations into Christ’s unique return.
Caught up / Raptureἁρπαγησόμεθα (harpagēsometha)ఎత్తబడిettabaḍiCriticalThe Return of Christ / Resurrection of Believers4:17Must render as a sovereign act done to believers by God (passive), not a self-achieved ascent; guard against association with yogic siddhi levitation traditions.
Day of the Lordἡμέρα κυρίου (hēmera kyriou)ప్రభువు దినముPrabhuvu dinamuHighThe Day of the Lord5:2Must not be read as an astrologically auspicious/inauspicious calendrical day (panchangam framework); this is a decisive, unrepeatable act of divine judgment/consummation.
Meet the Lordεἰς ἀπάντησιν τοῦ κυρίου (eis apantēsin tou kyriou)ప్రభువును ఎదుర్కొనుటPrabhuvunu edurkonuṭaHighThe Return of Christ4:17Technical Hellenistic “royal welcome” term; genuine denominational-interpretive variance exists across Telugu traditions on what follows the meeting — render literally, flag for theologian review, do not import one scheme’s added detail.
Hopeἐλπίς (elpis)నిరీక్షణnirīkshaṇaHighHope in Grief1:3; 2:19; 4:13; 5:8Confident, promise-grounded expectation; must not collapse into ఆశ (mere wish) or fatalistic resignation. Proposed as this curriculum’s locked rendering for ἐλπίς throughout.
Sleep (death euphemism)κοιμάω (koimaō)నిద్రించినవారుnidrin̄chinavāruMediumHope in Grief / Resurrection of Believers4:13, 14, 15; 5:10Must retain the “temporary, reversible” nuance of the biblical euphemism; not to be flattened to a bare “the dead” term.
Grief/sorrowλύπη (lypē)దుఃఖముduḥkhamuMediumHope in Grief4:13Shares its root with the pan-Indian philosophical category of dukkha (existential suffering); must be anchored as bereavement-grief answered by resurrection hope, not an inherent condition addressed by detachment.
Comfort (grief-consolation)παρακαλέω (parakaleō), consolation senseఆదరించుādarin̄chuMediumHope in Grief3:7; 4:18; 5:11Extends the baseline’s context-sensitivity note on παρακαλέω: reserve ఆదరించు for grief-consolation contexts, ప్రోత్సహించడం for exhortation-to-action contexts.
Trumpet of Godσάλπιγξ θεοῦ (salpinx theou)దేవుని బూరDēvuni būraMediumThe Return of Christ4:16Keep distinct from శంఖం (ceremonial conch shell of Hindu temple ritual); బూర is the established Telugu Bible signal-trumpet term.
Archangelἀρχάγγελος (archangelos)ప్రధానదూతpradhānadūtaLowThe Return of Christ4:16Established compound; avoid implying a hierarchy rivaling God’s sole supremacy.
Shout of commandκέλευσμα (keleusma)ఆజ్ఞాశబ్దముājñāśabdamuLow-MediumThe Return of Christ4:16Sovereign, authoritative summons — not an emotional cry or alarm.
Sons/children of lightυἱοὶ φωτός (huioi phōtos)వెలుగు సంబంధులుvelugu sambandhuluMediumThe Day of the Lord / Sanctification5:5Ethical-eschatological identity in Christ, not a metaphysical light/darkness dualistic cosmology found in some regional philosophical systems.
Sober / watchfulγρηγορέω, νήφω (grēgoreō, nēphō)జాగరూకులైjāgarūkulaiMediumSanctification / The Day of the Lord5:6, 8Vigilant, sober-minded eschatological readiness.
Sanctify whollyὁλοτελής (holotelēs)సంపూర్ణముగా పరిశుద్ధపరచుsampūrṇamugā pariśuddhaparachuHighSanctification5:23Extends baseline sanctification term with “wholly/entirely”; ties Sanctification directly to blameless preservation at the Parousia.
Spirit / soul / bodyπνεῦμα, ψυχή, σῶμα (pneuma, psychē, sōma)ఆత్మ, ప్రాణము, శరీరముātma, prāṇamu, śarīramuHighSanctification5:23ఆత్మ for human “spirit” is settled Telugu Bible usage but carries Vedantic Ātman-Brahman resonance; must be taught as one of three distinct aspects of a real creaturely person, never as an impersonal spark of ultimate reality.
Idolsεἴδωλα (eidōla)విగ్రహములుvigrahamuluHighSanctification1:9విగ్రహం is the everyday word for a temple deity-image; frame as renunciation of the general practice of idol-worship, preserving the passage’s uncompromising contrast without derogating a specific community’s devotional object needlessly.
Wrath (of God)ὀργή (orgē)దేవుని ఉగ్రతDēvuni ugrataHighThe Day of the Lord1:10; 2:16; 5:9Righteous, personal, judicial wrath — distinct from capricious divine anger in popular regional iconography and from impersonal karmic retribution.
Sexual immoralityπορνεία (porneia)జారత్వంjāratvamHighSanctification4:3Must be stated with full directness, matching the source text’s force, without euphemistic softening.
Quench the Spiritπνεῦμα μὴ σβέννυτε (pneuma mē sbennyte)పరిశుద్ధాత్మను ఆర్పకుడిpariśuddhātmanu ārpakuḍiHighSanctification5:19Must retain the sense of grieving/resisting a personal divine Person, never controlling an impersonal energy/life-force.
Love (agape)ἀγάπη (agapē)ప్రేమprēmaMediumSanctification / Hope in Grief1:3; 3:12; 4:9; 5:13Standard Telugu word for love; anchor as self-giving, God-rooted love, distinct from merely romantic/familial affection.
Uncleannessἀκαθαρσία (akatharsia)అపరిశుద్ధతaparishuddhataMediumSanctification4:7Deliberately built on the baseline-locked పరిశుద్ధ root (rather than the పవిత్ర family) for cross-lesson consistency with the Sanctification doctrine’s core term.
Affliction/tribulationθλῖψις (thlipsis)శ్రమśramaMediumHope in Grief1:6; 3:3Suffering endured with Spirit-given joy, not stoic resignation.
Peace and safety (false security)εἰρήνη καὶ ἀσφάλεια (eirēnē kai asphaleia)శాంతి, సురక్షితతśānti, surakshitataMediumThe Day of the Lord5:3Ironic/negative use of శాంతి — unlike its normal positive doctrinal sense; flag for translators.
Vessel (body)σκεῦος (skeuos)పాత్రpātraMediumSanctification4:4Metaphor for one’s own body; requires contextual clarity.
Lustful passionἐπιθυμία (epithymia)కామవాంఛkāmavān̄chaMediumSanctification4:5Disordered desire contrasted with sanctified self-control.
Persecutionδιωγμός (diōgmos)హింసhin̄saMediumHope in Grief2:14-15Suffering for the faith, shared experience across churches.
Tempterὁ πειράζων (ho peirazōn)శోధించువాడుśōdhin̄chuvāḍuMediumSanctification3:5A personal adversary’s active work — not an impersonal notion of illusion/temptation.
Satanσατανᾶς (satanas)సాతానుsātānuMedium(Christology/spiritual conflict)2:18Personal spiritual adversary, not an impersonal evil force.
God’s faithfulnessπιστός ὁ καλῶν (pistos ho kalōn)దేవుని విశ్వాస్యతDēvuni viswāsyataMediumDivine Calling5:24God’s own faithful character undergirds every promise in the letter.
Brotherly loveφιλαδελφία (philadelphia)సహోదర ప్రేమsahōdara prēmaLowSanctification4:9Already Spirit-taught love within the church family.
Word of God/Lordλόγος θεοῦ / κυρίου (logos theou/kyriou)దేవుని వాక్యము / ప్రభువు వాక్యముDēvuni vākyamu / Prabhuvu vākyamuMediumInspiration of Scripture (parallel)1:8; 2:13; 4:15Authoritative revealed word, not human opinion or private teaching.
Imitatorsμιμηταί (mimētai)అనుకరించువారుanukarin̄chuvāruLowSanctification1:6Model of Christian formation through imitation.
Joyχαρά (chara)ఆనందంānandamLowHope in Grief1:6; 5:16Spirit-sourced joy amid affliction.

Thief in the nightκλέπτης (kleptēs)దొంగdongaLowThe Day of the Lord5:2Unpredictability; warns against date-setting.
Armor (breastplate/helmet)θώραξ / περικεφαλαία (thōrax/perikephalaia)కవచము / శిరస్త్రాణముkavacamu / śirastrāṇamuLowSanctification5:8Established martial-imagery terms shared with Ephesians 6 tradition.
Admonishνουθετέω (noutheteō)బుద్ధి చెప్పుbuddhi cheppuLowMutual Edification5:12, 14Pastoral correction within community.

Holy kissφίλημα ἅγιον (philēma hagion)పరిశుద్ధమైన ముద్దుpariśuddhamaina mudduLow(Greeting convention)5:26Standard translation issue; theological weight rests on పరిశుద్ధ, not the greeting custom itself.

Notes for Phase 1 Step 2 (Doctrine Analysis) and Phase 2 Preparation

  1. All Section B terms above are proposed for formal addition to a curriculum-specific translation_memory.json extension in the next pipeline step; none may contradict or duplicate an existing baseline entry.
  2. Three terms carry Critical risk specifically because of a live syncretism collision distinct from anything flagged in the Romans baseline: రాకడ (Parousia, vs. Kalki-avatara expectation), దిగివచ్చును (the descent verb, vs. అవతరించు’s shared root with అవతారం), and ఎత్తబడి (the rapture verb, vs. yogic levitation siddhi traditions). These three require the same human theologian review tier as the baseline’s Incarnation/Resurrection/Salvation Critical terms.
  3. ఆత్మ in its 5:23 tripartite-anthropology use (spirit/soul/body) requires special translator guidance distinguishing it from its use inside the baseline-locked compound పరిశుద్ధాత్మ (Holy Spirit) — both are settled, correct Telugu Bible usage, but a first-generation-believer audience may need this distinction reinforced in teaching notes.
  4. This glossary, together with analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, provides full first-through-last-chapter coverage of 1 Thessalonians as required by the PRD Phase 1 full-book-coverage mandate.

Critical Risk Terms

Salvation

Approved rendering: రక్షణ
Transliteration: rakshana
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: మోక్షం, ముక్తి
Original: σωτηρία / περιποίησις σωτηρίας
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. CRITICAL: NEVER మోక్షం or ముక్తి. In 5:9 this term is directly and deliberately contrasted with దేవుని ఉగ్రత (wrath); the contrast must be preserved with equal force.

Resurrection

Approved rendering: పునరుత్థానం
Transliteration: punarutthānam
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: పునర్జన్మ
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἀνέστη / ἀναστήσονται
Category: Eschatology

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency, including verb forms built on the same root (punarutthānamāyenu / punarutthānamagunu). CRITICAL: NEVER పునర్జన్మ. In 4:14 describes Christ’s own past resurrection; in 4:16 describes believers’ future resurrection (‘the dead in Christ will rise first’) — same word, two related but distinct referents; translator notes must make this shift explicit.

Lord

Approved rendering: ప్రభువు
Transliteration: prabhuvu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: స్వామి
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. Must convey exclusive, supreme, presently-reigning Lordship even amid this letter’s dense eschatological vocabulary (రాకడ, ఎదుర్కొనుట, ప్రభువు దినము).

Son Of God

Approved rendering: దేవుని కుమారుడు
Transliteration: Dēvuni Kumāruḍu
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: అవతారపురుషుడు
Original: υἱὸς αὐτοῦ / υἱὸς θεοῦ
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. In 1:10 this is the letter’s earliest explicit anchor for the Return of Christ doctrine.

Jesus

Approved rendering: యేసు
Transliteration: Yēsu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς / יֵשׁוּעַ
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency.

God

Approved rendering: దేవుడు
Transliteration: Dēvuḍu
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: భగవంతుడు
Original: θεός / אֱלֹהִים / יהוה
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. 1:9’s conversion narrative (‘turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God’) is the letter’s sharpest occurrence of this term against a competing religious framework.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధాత్మ
Transliteration: pariśuddhātma
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: పరమాత్మ, పవిత్రాత్మ
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. NEVER పరమాత్మ. 5:19’s ‘do not quench the Spirit’ command sharpens the baseline’s concern: this Person can be grieved or resisted by the community, which must never be read as controlling an impersonal energy/life-force.

Father

Approved rendering: తండ్రి
Transliteration: Tandri
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: సృష్టికర్త
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. Addressed repeatedly in this letter’s prayers: 1:1, 1:3, 3:11, 3:13.

Christ

Approved rendering: క్రీస్తు
Transliteration: Krīstu
Doctrine: Christology (General)
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

NEW TERM for this curriculum’s translation memory (not a standalone Romans TM entry, though the transliteration is already the established, shared Protestant/Catholic Telugu form). Functions throughout 1 Thessalonians chiefly as part of the fixed title ‘the Lord Jesus Christ.’ The referent must remain the single, unique historical Jesus — never implied to be one of several avatara-descents associated with regional temple tradition.

Coming Of The Lord

Approved rendering: ప్రభువు రాకడ
Transliteration: Prabhuvu rākaḍa
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: పరూసియా (bare transliteration)

This curriculum’s central and most-repeated technical term (2:19; 3:13; 4:15; 5:23). రాకడ is the established Telugu Christian term for Christ’s advent, but Tirupati’s Venkateswara (Balaji) temple tradition and its live Kalki-avatara expectation of a future age-ending divine descent keep ‘a god’s future coming’ a live cultural reference point. Must be taught as the unique, one-time, bodily return of the same Lord who already, once and permanently, took on flesh (శరీరధారణ), never a repeatable avatara-cycle event.

Descend

Approved rendering: దిగివచ్చును
Transliteration: digivachunu
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: అవతరించును

CRITICAL FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION: NEVER అవతరించును. That everyday Telugu verb for ‘to descend’ shares its root directly with అవతారం, the Romans baseline’s forbidden term for incarnation. Using it for Christ’s return (4:16) would compound the exact syncretism risk the baseline works to prevent, implying a repeatable avatara-style descent.

Caught Up Rapture

Approved rendering: ఎత్తబడి
Transliteration: ettabaḍi
Doctrine: The Gathering (Rapture) of Believers
Rejected alternatives: ఆకాశగమనం (self-attained ascent vocabulary)
Original: ἁρπαγησόμεθα (ἁρπάζω)
Category: Eschatology

Sole occurrence at 4:17, inside the core passage. Must be a passive verb form conveying a sovereign act done TO believers by God, never a self-achieved ascent. Telugu-speaking regions retain cultural familiarity with yogic siddhi traditions claiming self-attained bodily levitation through ascetic practice; any active-voice rendering is forbidden.

High Risk Terms

Grace

Approved rendering: కృప
Transliteration: kṛpa
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: పుణ్యం, కర్మఫలం
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. Frames both the letter’s opening (1:1) and closing benediction (5:28); care still needed for readers with Vaishnava/Shaiva devotional-family backgrounds where favor can be read as merit-responsive.

Holy

Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధ
Transliteration: pariśuddha
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: పవిత్ర, శుద్ధ
Original: ἅγιος / ἅγιοι / ἁγιωσύνη
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. Occurs at 2:10, 3:13, 4:4, 5:23, 5:26. 3:13 structurally links this term to the Return of Christ doctrine and must appear clearly alongside ప్రభువు రాకడ in that verse.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధపరచడం
Transliteration: pariśuddhaparachaḍam
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: శుద్ధీకరణ
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. This letter’s explicit definitional statement — ‘this is the will of God, your sanctification’ (4:3, 4, 7) — is the single most theologically load-bearing occurrence of this term across the whole curriculum, alongside 5:23.

Church

Approved rendering: సంఘము
Transliteration: sanghamu
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: దేవాలయం, సభ
Original: ἐκκλησία / ἐκκλησίαι τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. 1:1 addresses ‘the church of the Thessalonians’; 2:14 speaks of ‘the churches of God’ shared across regions.

Glory

Approved rendering: మహిమ
Transliteration: mahima
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: తేజస్సు
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. Occurs at 2:6, 2:12, 2:20.

Election

Approved rendering: దేవుని ఏర్పాటు
Transliteration: Dēvuni Ērpāṭu
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: విధి, కర్మ
Original: ἐκλογή
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. 1:4 grounds the Thessalonians’ salvation in God’s election of them, ‘brothers loved by God.‘

Day Of The Lord

Approved rendering: ప్రభువు దినము
Transliteration: Prabhuvu dinamu
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: శుభదినం, అశుభదినం
Original: ἡμέρα κυρίου
Category: Eschatology

5:2. Must not be read as an astrologically auspicious/inauspicious calendrical day within regional panchangam-based time-reckoning, a live everyday framework in Telugu culture. This is a singular, decisive, unrepeatable act of divine judgment and consummation, never a recurring calendrical classification.

Meet The Lord

Approved rendering: ప్రభువును ఎదుర్కొనుట
Transliteration: Prabhuvunu edurkonuṭa
Doctrine: The Return of Christ

4:17. Technical Hellenistic civic term for the formal procession welcoming and escorting an arriving dignitary. Telugu Pentecostal, Baptist, and mainline traditions hold genuine, long-standing interpretive variance over what follows this meeting. Render literally (‘to meet the Lord’) without importing any single denominational scheme’s added detail; flag every occurrence for human theologian review.

Hope

Approved rendering: నిరీక్షణ
Transliteration: nirīkshaṇa
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Rejected alternatives: ఆశ
Original: ἐλπίς / ἐλπίδα
Category: Faith

Formally locked as this curriculum’s rendering for ἐλπίς throughout (1:3; 2:19; 4:13; 5:8), since the term is not present in the Romans baseline translation memory. Must be kept distinct from ఆశ (a mere wish/desire) and must not be softened into resigned fatalism; the entire rhetorical force of 4:13 depends on this word.

Sanctify Wholly

Approved rendering: సంపూర్ణముగా పరిశుద్ధపరచు
Transliteration: sampūrṇamugā pariśuddhaparachu
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ὁλοτελεῖς / ἁγιάσαι ὑμᾶς ὁλοτελεῖς
Category: Sanctification

5:23. The letter’s climactic sanctification prayer, tied directly to blameless preservation at Christ’s coming. Built on the baseline-locked verb పరిశుద్ధపరచడం plus a native intensifier; must appear clearly together with ప్రభువు రాకడ in this verse since fragmenting them would weaken Paul’s doctrinal connection.

Spirit Soul Body

Approved rendering: ఆత్మ, ప్రాణము, శరీరము
Transliteration: ātma, prāṇamu, śarīramu
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: πνεῦμα καὶ ψυχὴ καὶ σῶμα
Category: Sanctification

5:23. ఆత్మ, the established Telugu Bible word for human ‘spirit,’ carries strong Vedantic Ātman-Brahman resonance (an impersonal universal self ultimately non-distinct from ultimate reality). Settled, correct Telugu Bible usage (paralleling how ఆత్మ is permitted only inside the compound పరిశుద్ధాత్మ for the Holy Spirit in the baseline), but must be taught here as three distinct, real aspects of one creaturely person, never an impersonal spark of ultimate reality awaiting reabsorption.

Idols

Approved rendering: విగ్రహములు
Transliteration: vigrahamulu
Doctrine: Conversion from Idolatry
Original: εἴδωλα
Category: Sanctification

1:9. విగ్రహం is the everyday Telugu word for a temple deity-image, an active devotional object for many families in the surrounding culture and often within believers’ own extended families. Preserve the passage’s uncompromising contrast with ‘the living and true God’ in full, without gratuitous derogation of the devotional object itself beyond what the text requires.

Wrath

Approved rendering: దేవుని ఉగ్రత
Transliteration: Dēvuni ugrata
Doctrine: God’s Wrath and Judgment
Rejected alternatives: కోపం
Original: ὀργή
Category: God

1:10; 2:16; 5:9. Must be distinguished both from a capricious deity’s arbitrary anger in popular regional iconography and from impersonal karmic retribution; this is the righteous, judicial wrath of a personal, holy God, directly contrasted with రక్షణ in 5:9.

Sexual Immorality

Approved rendering: జారత్వం
Transliteration: jāratvam
Doctrine: Sexual Purity as Sanctification
Original: πορνεία
Category: Sanctification

4:3. Sanctification’s concrete definitional core includes abstaining from this. Must be stated with the same directness as the source text; no euphemistic softening, since Telugu preaching custom sometimes softens this term and the doctrine’s ethical force depends on concreteness.

Quench The Spirit

Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధాత్మను ఆర్పకుడి
Transliteration: pariśuddhātmanu ārpakuḍi
Doctrine: Not Quenching the Spirit
Original: τὸ πνεῦμα μὴ σβέννυτε
Category: Sanctification

5:19. Extends the baseline’s Critical concern that పరిశుద్ధాత్మ never be treated as an impersonal force. ‘Quenching’ language must retain the sense of grieving/resisting a personal divine Person, not extinguishing a flame-like impersonal energy or life-force.

Medium Risk Terms

Gospel

Approved rendering: సువార్త
Transliteration: suvārta
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: వార్త
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. Long-established Telugu Christian term. Occurs at 1:5, 2:2, 2:4, 2:8-9, 3:2. Risk here is low-syncretism; the main task is not drifting toward the generic వార్త (mere news).

Approved rendering: విశ్వాసం
Transliteration: viswāsam
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: భక్తి
Original: πίστις / πιστεύομεν
Category: Faith

Rejected alternatives: మనశ్శాంతి
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package; retained exactly as baseline for cross-curriculum consistency. Positive doctrinal use at 1:1, 5:23. IMPORTANT NEW RISK for this curriculum: 5:3 uses the same word ironically (‘peace and safety’) of false human self-security immediately before judgment — see the new ‘peace_and_safety_false_security’ entry below; this is the only occurrence across the whole Language Package where the locked term carries reversed evaluative force.

Category: Eschatology

4:13, 14, 15; 5:10. The biblical euphemism for the death of believers, emphasizing its temporary, reversible character in light of the resurrection. Must not be flattened to మృతులు (‘the dead’), which discards this reversibility nuance central to the doctrine’s pastoral force.

Grief

Approved rendering: దుఃఖము
Transliteration: duḥkhamu
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Original: λυπῆσθε (λύπη)
Category: Faith

4:13. Shares its root with the pan-Indian philosophical category of dukkha (existential suffering addressed through detachment/transcendence). Must always appear resolved by resurrection hope in the same immediate context, never presented as an inherent condition addressed by non-attachment.

Comfort Consolation

Approved rendering: ఆదరించు
Transliteration: ādarin̄chu
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Original: παρακαλεῖτε / παρεκλήθημεν (consolation sense of παρακαλέω)
Category: Faith

Extends the baseline’s context-sensitivity note on παρακαλέω (see ‘exhort’ above): reserve ఆదరించు specifically for grief-consolation contexts (3:7; 4:18; 5:11), so pastoral comfort is never collapsed into a call to duty.

Transliteration: śānti, surakshitata
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: εἰρήνη καὶ ἀσφάλεια
Category: Eschatology

5:3. Ironic, negative use of శాంతి, unlike its normal positive doctrinal sense (see the ‘peace’ entry above); flag every occurrence so it is not read as commending the very complacency the verse condemns.

Transliteration: pātra
