Core Glossary

Core Glossary: Titus — English → Telugu

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from every chapter of Titus (1:1–3:15). Terms already present in the Romans baseline translation_memory.json are marked [BASELINE-LOCKED] and reused verbatim with no deviation. New terms proposed for this curriculum are marked [NEW] and are candidates for addition to an updated translation memory in a subsequent step, pending the risk-tier review routing already established by the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json conventions (Critical/High → human theologian; Medium → native speaker; Low → automated).

B. New Terms Proposed for This Curriculum [NEW]

Term (EN)GreekTransliteration (Greek)Telugu (proposed)Transliteration (Telugu)RiskDoctrineKey locationsRejected alternativesNotes
Regeneration / new birthπαλιγγενεσίαpalingenesiaనూతన జననముnūtana jananamuCriticalRegeneration by the Holy Spirit3:5పునర్జన్మ (rebirth/reincarnation)CRITICAL FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION: NEVER పునర్జన్మ. The most literal Telugu compound for “again-birth” would closely resemble the baseline’s permanently forbidden term for reincarnation (already forbidden for ἀνάστασις). Titus’s regeneration is a one-time, non-repeatable, Spirit-wrought new birth into eternal life, the theological opposite of rebirth within an ongoing cycle. Requires mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence.
Renewal (ongoing)ἀνακαίνωσιςanakainōsisనూతనపరచుటnūtanaparachuṭaHighRegeneration by the Holy Spirit3:5పరిశుద్ధపరచడం (sanctification, a related but distinct locked term)Must be kept distinct from both παλιγγενεσία (one-time new birth, above) and the locked sanctification term; names the Spirit’s ongoing renewing work as a third related concept.
Appearing / Epiphany (of grace / of glory / of kindness)ἐπιφαίνω / ἐπιφάνειαepiphainō / epiphaneiaప్రత్యక్షమైంది / ప్రత్యక్షతprakaṭamayindi / prakaṭataHighGrace That Trains for Godly Living; Deity/Lordship of Christ (2nd coming)2:11, 13; 3:4అవతారం (avatar-descent)Must never suggest a repeatable divine avatar-descent; this is Titus’s book-specific extension of the baseline’s incarnation/avatar guard, applied to the “grace has appeared” and “glory will appear” motifs, not only to the incarnation proper.
Age / this present ageαἰώνaiōnయుగం (with caution) / ఈ లోకకాలము (periphrasis)yugam / ī lōkakālamuHighGrace That Trains for Godly Living1:2; 2:12యుగం is the exact term for the Hindu cosmological Yugas in a cyclical time scheme; biblical αἰών is linear-historical (between Christ’s two comings), not cyclical. Recommend periphrasis where the cyclical association is a live catechetical risk; flag every occurrence.
Godlinessεὐσέβειαeusebeiaదైవభక్తిdaivabhaktiHighGrace That Trains for Godly Living1:1; 2:12— (భక్తి itself was rejected only as a rendering of πίστις/faith, not of εὐσέβεια, where it is correct)Shares the భక్తి root the baseline rejected for “faith” due to Vaishnava bhakti-devotion connotations; for godliness (a distinct Greek word) this root is correct, but curriculum materials must explicitly teach విశ్వాసం (faith, the root) → దైవభక్తి (godliness, the fruit) to prevent collapsing trust-in-Christ and pious devotion into a single merit-generating concept.
Ungodlinessἀσέβειαasebeiaదైవభక్తిహీనతdaivabhakti-hīnataHighGrace That Trains for Godly Living2:12Direct antonym of దైవభక్తి above; keep the pairing visible.
Savior (agent noun)σωτήρsōtērరక్షకుడుrakṣakuḍuCriticalSalvation; Deity of Christ1:3,4; 2:10,13; 3:4,6ముక్తిదాత, మోక్షప్రదాతDerivative of the locked రక్షణ root; must never suggest a guru/avatar-liberator figure. Applied to both the Father (1:3; 3:4) and the Son (2:13; 3:6) — a compact Trinitarian pattern requiring theologian review.
Good worksκαλὸν/ἀγαθὸν ἔργονkalon/agathon ergonసత్కార్యములుsatkāryamuluHighSound Doctrine and Good Works; Salvation by Grace not Works1:16; 2:7,14; 3:1,8,14క్రియలు (bare, insufficiently specific)The single most-repeated load-bearing phrase in Titus. Every occurrence must be checked against 3:5’s explicit works-exclusion to ensure grace-produces-works (fruit), never works-produce-grace (cause), mirroring the Romans 4:4–5/11:5–6 grace-merit rule.
Works of righteousnessἔργα ἐν δικαιοσύνῃerga en dikaiosynēనీతిక్రియలుnītikriyaluCriticalSalvation by Grace not Works3:5The clearest single works-exclusion statement in Titus; requires unambiguous negation (“not by…”) preserved in translation.
MercyἔλεοςeleosకనికరముkanikaramuHighSalvation by Grace not Works3:5Distinguish from the locked కృప (grace): mercy names compassion toward those in misery/need; grace names unmerited favor generally. Both essential, not interchangeable.
Redeem / ransomλυτρόωlytroōవిమోచించుvimōchin̄chuHighSalvation by Grace not Works2:14విడుదల (mere release, no price-paid nuance)Must retain the “price paid” ransom nuance; must not be assimilated to moksha/mukti-style liberation from a cosmic cycle.
Lawlessnessἀνομίαanomiaఅధర్మంadharmamMediumSalvation by Grace not Works2:14Distinct Greek word from ἁμαρτία (locked పాపం, “sin”); అధర్మం was rejected as an alternative for πాపం in the baseline precisely because it under-specifies personal guilt — but here it is the correct word since the Greek itself specifies lawlessness, not general sin. Do not confuse the two Greek terms.
Purify / cleanseκαθαρίζωkatharizōశుద్ధిచేయుśuddhicheyuMediumSalvation by Grace not Works2:14పరిశుద్ధపరచడం (sanctification — a related but distinct locked term)Keep distinct from the locked sanctification term so Titus’s decisive cleansing-purchase is not confused with the Spirit’s ongoing sanctifying work.
A people for God’s own possessionλαὸς περιούσιοςlaos periousiosస్వకీయ ప్రజలుsvakīya prajaluHighChurch as God’s People; Universal Scope of the Gospel2:14Must not suggest a privileged ethnic/social elite; resonant with the baseline’s universal_scope_of_gospel note on Telugu Dalit Christian mass-movement history — every believer belongs equally.
Training / disciplining (of grace)παιδεύωpaideuōశిక్షణ ఇచ్చుటśikṣaṇa ivvuṭaHighGrace That Trains for Godly Living2:12Anchor term for the curriculum’s namesake doctrine. Risk that శిక్షణ reads as punitive military/penal discipline; must be framed relationally so grace’s training is not misread as punishment for merit-failure.
Elder (church office)πρεσβύτεροςpresbyterosసంఘ పెద్దలుsangha peddaluHighQualifications for Elders1:5పెద్దలు (bare — too easily read as generic community/caste elders)Must be disambiguated from πρεσβύτης (“older man,” 2:2, no office) and from generic Indian community/caste-council “elders.” The సంఘ- prefix (reusing locked సంఘము) is required.
Overseer / bishopἐπίσκοποςepiskoposసంఘాధ్యక్షుడుsanghādhyakṣuḍuHighQualifications for Elders1:7బిషప్ (imports a modern denominational office not in view)Same office as πρεσβύτερος in Titus 1:5-7 (two names, one office) — a genuine cross-denominational-consistency risk (episcopal vs. congregational traditions read this differently); curriculum materials must state explicitly that the two Greek terms name the same office here.
Older man (demographic)πρεσβύτηςpresbytēsవృద్ధులుvṛddhuluMediumSound Doctrine and Good Works (household code)2:2Must be visibly distinct from సంఘ పెద్దలు (the elder office, 1:5) despite the shared Greek root.
Older woman (demographic)πρεσβῦτιςpresbytisవృద్ధురాండ్రుvṛddhurāṇḍruLowSound Doctrine and Good Works2:3Parallel demographic term, no office.
Sound / healthy doctrineὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλίαhygiainousa didaskaliaహితబోధhitabōdhaHighSound Doctrine and Good Works1:9,13; 2:1,2,8సరైన బోధ (merely “correct,” loses the health-metaphor)Anchor term for the curriculum’s namesake doctrine; render consistently across all five occurrences so the book-spanning medical metaphor (health-giving vs. disease-producing teaching) remains visible.
Reverent demeanor (befitting holiness)ἱεροπρεπήςhieroprepēsపరిశుద్ధతకు తగిన నడవడిక గలవారుpariśuddhatakku tagina naḍavaḍika galavāruHighSound Doctrine and Good Works2:3అర్చకత్వ-based vocabulary (priestly office)Literal root risks a priestly/temple-office connotation; must be rendered as demeanor only, not an office or ritual role.
Pure / chasteἁγνόςhagnosపవిత్రమైన / నిష్కళంకమైనpavitramaina / niṣkalaṅkamainaMediumSound Doctrine and Good Works2:5పరిశుద్ధ (locked term for hagios — a distinct Greek word)Distinguish from the locked పరిశుద్ధ (hagios, corporate set-apartness); ἁγνός names specific moral/sexual purity.
Devout (personal piety)ὅσιοςhosiosపవిత్రప్రవర్తనగలవాడుpavitrapravartana galavāḍuMediumQualifications for Elders1:8పరిశుద్ధ (would duplicate ἅγιος in the same list)Near-synonym of ἅγιος; use a distinct phrase to avoid redundant collision within the same elder-qualification list.
Adorn (the teaching)κοσμέωkosmeōబోధను అలంకరించుbōdhanu alaṅkarin̄chuMedium-HighSound Doctrine and Good Works2:10Not decorative/superficial “polishing”; conduct that renders the gospel’s claims credible before outsiders.
Submit / be subject toὑποτάσσωhypotassōలోబడుటlōbaḍuṭaHighSubmission to Authority2:5,9; 3:1ధార్మిక కర్తవ్యం (merit-earning duty — already rejected in baseline for a related term)One verb spanning household (wives, bondservants) and civic (rulers) spheres; render consistently while keeping context clear which relationship is meant; must not read as merit-earning obligation.
Rulers, authoritiesἀρχή, ἐξουσίαarchē, exousiaఅధికారులు, అధికారములుadhikārulu, adhikāramuluHighSubmission to Authority3:1Human civil government; distinguish from ἐπιταγή (apostolic/church authority, 2:15).
Obey (authority)πειθαρχέωpeitharcheōవిధేయులై యుండుvidhēyulai uṇḍuMediumSubmission to Authority3:1Cognate with the locked విశ్వాస విధేయత family; practical civic outworking of faith-obedience.
HeirsκληρονόμοςklēronomosవారసులుvārasuluHighSalvation by Grace not Works (inheritance)3:7Extends the locked దత్తపుత్రత్వం (adoption) doctrine’s logic without duplicating its term; must convey inheritance as God’s children, not secular property-inheritance or karma-merited inheritance.
Hopeἐλπίςelpisనిరీక్షణnirīkṣaṇaHighGrace That Trains for Godly Living; Regeneration1:2; 2:13; 3:7ఆశ (mere wish/desire, lacks certainty)Confident expectation grounded in God’s character, not uncertain wishing.
Eternal lifeζωὴ αἰώνιοςzōē aiōniosనిత్యజీవంnityajīvamHighRegeneration by the Holy Spirit1:2; 3:7Must convey unending personal, relational, bodily-resurrection life with God, guarding against a moksha-adjacent misreading (impersonal merging with the absolute) parallel to the guard already placed on రక్షణ/salvation.
Divisive/factious personαἱρετικὸς ἄνθρωποςhairetikos anthrōposభేదోత్పాదకుడుbhēdōtpādakuḍuMedium-HighAvoiding Divisive Controversies3:10మతభ్రష్టుడు (imports the later, fully technical “heretic” sense)Root of English “heretic,” but here (pre-technical usage) names relational factiousness/party-spirit, not exclusively formal doctrinal heresy.
Foolish controversies / questionsμωραὶ ζητήσειςmōrai zētēseisమూఢమైన తర్కములు/వివాదములుmūḍhamaina tarkamulu/vivādamuluMedium-HighAvoiding Divisive Controversies3:9Pointless speculative wrangling, not legitimate theological inquiry; deliberately contrasted with 3:8’s “good and profitable” good works.
Genealogies (as controversy)γενεαλογίαgenealogiaవంశావళులుvamśāvaḷuluMediumAvoiding Divisive Controversies3:9Context-specific to unproductive lineage disputes here; not a blanket judgment on all biblical genealogical material.
Quarrels about the lawἔρεις καὶ μάχαι νομικαίereis kai machai nomikaiధర్మశాస్త్రమును గూర్చిన వాదములుdharmaśāstramunu gūrchina vādamuluMediumAvoiding Divisive Controversies3:9Reuses locked ధర్మశాస్త్రము; echoes the “circumcision party” controversy of 1:10.
Kindnessχρηστότηςchrēstotēsదయ / మంచితనంdaya / man̄chitanamMediumSalvation by Grace not Works3:4Distinct from but closely related to grace (κρప); God’s active benevolent disposition in action.
Love for mankind / philanthropyφιλανθρωπίαphilanthrōpiaమానవుల యెడల ప్రేమmānavula yeḍala prēmaMediumSalvation by Grace not Works3:4Rare NT word; God’s own posture of love toward humanity, not secular humanitarianism detached from God.
Slave/bondservant of Godδοῦλος θεοῦdoulos theouదేవుని దాసుడుDēvuni dāsuḍuMedium(Paul’s self-identification)1:1Total ownership-belonging, not diminished status.

C. Chapters Reviewed with No Additional New Terms

  • Titus 3:12–15 — reviewed explicitly; contains only proper names (Artemas, Tychicus, Zenas, Apollos, Nicopolis, transliterated per established Telugu Bible convention) and a repetition of already-catalogued terms (good works, grace). No new theological vocabulary.

D. Cross-Reference Notes for Phase 2 Enforcement

  1. παλιγγενεσία (regeneration) is the single highest-priority new-term flag in this glossary. It must be added to the translation memory with the same “CRITICAL FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION” status the baseline already gives to మోక్షం/ముక్తి (salvation) and పునర్జన్మ (resurrection): here too, పునర్జన్మ is absolutely forbidden.
  2. εὐσέβεια/godliness (దైవభక్తి) requires an explicit companion teaching note in every lesson where it appears, distinguishing it from విశ్వాసం/faith, given the shared భక్తి root the baseline already flagged as risky in a different (though related) context.
  3. πρεσβύτερος/ἐπίσκοπος (elder/overseer) requires a standardized explanatory note for cross-denominational learners that Titus 1:5–7 uses both terms for one office — this is a new denominational-consistency risk not present in the Romans package, analogous to (but distinct from) the baseline’s Holy Spirit/Church locks.
  4. ὑποτάσσω (submission) must be tracked across all three occurrences (2:5 wives, 2:9 bondservants, 3:1 citizens/rulers) for terminological consistency, since Phase 2 workers may process these in different files/segments.
  5. All good-works vocabulary (సత్కార్యములు and its surrounding argument) must be checked against Titus 3:5’s works-exclusion clause at every occurrence to preserve the grace→works (fruit, not cause) sequence, exactly as the baseline’s Romans 4:4–5/11:5–6 rule already requires.

Critical Risk Terms

God

Approved rendering: దేవుడు
Transliteration: Dēvuḍu
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: భగవంతుడు
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. In Titus 2:13 and 3:4, θεός is directly applied to both Christ and the Father in a compact Trinitarian pattern; never భగవంతుడు in any doctrinally precise context.

Jesus

Approved rendering: యేసు
Transliteration: Yēsu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Occurs at Titus 1:1,4; 2:13; 3:6.

Lord

Approved rendering: ప్రభువు
Transliteration: prabhuvu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: స్వామి
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Underlies the household and civic submission instructions in Titus (2:5,9; 3:1), where Christ’s exclusive Lordship grounds voluntary submission.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధాత్మ
Transliteration: pariśuddhātma
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: పరమాత్మ, పవిత్రాత్మ
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. The agent of both regeneration and renewal in Titus 3:5; never పరమాత్మ. This curriculum continues the Romans lock on పరిశుద్ధాత్మ over పవిత్రాత్మ.

Salvation

Approved rendering: రక్షణ
Transliteration: rakshana
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: మోక్షం, ముక్తి
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. NEVER మోక్షం or ముక్తి. In Titus 2:11 grace itself is σωτήριος (salvation-bringing) to all people; in 3:5 God ‘saved us’ by mercy, not works.

Imputed Righteousness

Approved rendering: ఆపాదింపబడిన నీతి
Transliteration: āpādimpabaḍina nīti
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: స్వార్జిత నీతి

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Retained as the direct doctrinal parallel to Titus 3:5’s ‘works_of_righteousness’ exclusion clause (నీతిక్రియలు వలన కాదు) — both guard the same grace-not-merit boundary.

Christ

Approved rendering: క్రీస్తు
Transliteration: Krīstu
Doctrine: Deity and Saviorhood of Christ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

NEW formal entry for this curriculum. Not a separate translation_memory entry in the Romans baseline, but an established, denomination-neutral Telugu Bible transliteration used consistently alongside యేసు throughout Titus (1:1,4; 2:13; 3:6). Never substitute a title from a different religious tradition’s account of this figure.

Savior

Approved rendering: రక్షకుడు
Transliteration: rakṣakuḍu
Doctrine: Deity and Saviorhood of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ముక్తిదాత, మోక్షప్రదాత
Original: σωτήρ
Category: Salvation

NEW, derivative agent-noun of the baseline-locked రక్షణ root. Applied in Titus to both the Father (1:3; 3:4) and the Son (2:13; 3:6) — a compact Trinitarian title pattern. Must never suggest a guru/avatar-liberator figure.

Great God And Savior

Approved rendering: మహా దేవుడును మన రక్షకుడైన యేసు క్రీస్తు
Transliteration: mahā Dēvuḍunu mana rakṣakuḍaina Yēsu Krīstu
Doctrine: Deity and Saviorhood of Christ
Category: Christology

NEW, load-bearing composite for Titus 2:13’s single-article Greek construction (Sharp’s rule), in which ‘great God’ and ‘Savior’ both name one referent, Jesus Christ. Telugu syntax must preserve the single-referent reading; mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence.

Regeneration

Approved rendering: నూతన జననము
Transliteration: nūtana jananamu
Doctrine: Regeneration by the Holy Spirit
Rejected alternatives: పునర్జన్మ, మరుజన్మ
Original: παλιγγενεσία
Category: Salvation

CRITICAL FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION: NEVER పునర్జన్మ. The single highest-priority new-term flag in this curriculum. The most literal Telugu compound for Greek ‘again-birth’ (παλιγγενεσία, Titus 3:5) closely resembles పునర్జన్మ, the term the Romans baseline permanently forbids for resurrection because it denotes Hindu reincarnation within a cyclical samsara. Titus’s regeneration is a one-time, non-repeatable, Spirit-wrought new birth into eternal life — the theological opposite. Mandatory human theologian review at every occurrence, on par with the baseline’s Critical resurrection/incarnation terms.

Works Of Righteousness

Approved rendering: నీతిక్రియలు
Transliteration: nītikriyalu
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace not Works
Original: ἔργα ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ
Category: Salvation

NEW, built on baseline-locked నీతి. Renders ἔργα τῶν ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ (Titus 3:5), the clearest single works-exclusion statement in Titus. The negation (‘not by…’) must remain unambiguous in every rendering; mandatory theologian review.

High Risk Terms

Grace

Approved rendering: కృప
Transliteration: kṛpa
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: పుణ్యం, కర్మఫలం
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. In Titus this term forms a grace-inclusio spanning 2:11 (grace appeared) through 3:7 (justified by his grace) and 3:15 (closing benediction); the rendering must remain identical at every occurrence across the letter.

Father

Approved rendering: తండ్రి
Transliteration: Tandri
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: సృష్టికర్త
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Named alongside Christ Jesus our Savior in the greeting of Titus 1:4.

Righteousness

Approved rendering: నీతి
Transliteration: nīti
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ధర్మం
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Root for నీతిక్రియలు (works of righteousness, Titus 3:5) and నీతిగా (righteously, 2:12).

Justification

Approved rendering: నీతిమంతులుగా తీర్చడం
Transliteration: nītimantulugā tīrchaḍam
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: క్షమాపణ పొందడం
Original: δικαιόω
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Titus 3:7’s ‘being justified by his grace’ reuses this exact compound; do not shorten to a term implying mere forgiveness.

Sin

Approved rendering: పాపం
Transliteration: pāpam
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: అధర్మం
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Must not be confused with the distinct Greek term ἀνομία (lawlessness, Titus 2:14), rendered separately as అధర్మం in this curriculum’s new-term set.

Church

Approved rendering: సంఘము
Transliteration: sanghamu
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: దేవాలయం, సభ
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Root for the required సంఘ- prefix on the elder/overseer office terms in Titus 1:5-7 (సంఘ పెద్దలు, సంఘాధ్యక్షుడు). Never దేవాలయం or సభ.

Holy

Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధ
Transliteration: pariśuddha
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: పవిత్ర, శుద్ధ
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Reserve strictly for ἅγιος/Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5). Titus introduces three related-but-distinct Greek words (ὅσιος, ἁγνός, ἱεροπρεπής) that must each receive their OWN distinct Telugu phrase (see devout_personal_piety, pure_chaste, reverent_demeanor below) and must never default to పరిశుద్ధ.

Election

Approved rendering: దేవుని ఏర్పాటు
Transliteration: Dēvuni Ērpāṭu
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: విధి, కర్మ
Original: ἐκλεκτῶν θεοῦ
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered (abstract-noun root form). See gods_elect below for the Titus 1:1 substantival-adjective derivative (‘God’s elect’) built on this same root.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధపరచడం
Transliteration: pariśuddhaparachaḍam
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: శుద్ధీకరణ

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Retained here as the necessary contrast term for Titus 3:5: this curriculum’s new terms ‘renewal’ (నూతనపరచుట) and ‘purify_cleanse’ (శుద్ధిచేయు) must each be kept terminologically distinct from this locked sanctification term, naming three related-but-different works.

Adoption

Approved rendering: దత్తపుత్రత్వం
Transliteration: dattaputratvam
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: దత్తత తీసుకోవడం

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Retained as the doctrinal background against which Titus 3:7’s ‘heirs’ (వారసులు, new term below) must be understood — Titus does not reuse this exact term but presupposes its family-inheritance logic.

Obedience Of Faith

Approved rendering: విశ్వాస విధేయత
Transliteration: viswāsa vidhēyata
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: ధార్మిక కర్తవ్యం

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Retained as the doctrinal frame for Titus’s civic ‘obey_authority’ (విధేయులై యుండు, 3:1) and the ‘disobedient’ vice-list term of 3:3 — obedience flowing from faith already granted, never merit-earning ధార్మిక కర్తవ్యం.

Gods Elect

Approved rendering: దేవుని ఏర్పరచబడినవారు
Transliteration: Dēvuni ērparachabaḍinavāru
Doctrine: Apostolic Commission and Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: విధి, కర్మ

NEW derivative grammatical form of the baseline-locked election root (దేవుని ఏర్పాటు). Renders κατὰ πίστιν ἐκλεκτῶν θεοῦ, ‘the faith of God’s elect’ (Titus 1:1) — a substantival adjective naming God’s sovereignly chosen people, distinct from the abstract noun form. Must not be rendered with a term for impersonal fate or karma-determined destiny.

Epiphany Appearing

Approved rendering: ప్రత్యక్షమైంది / ప్రత్యక్షత
Transliteration: prakaṭamayindi / prakaṭata
Doctrine: Epiphany of Grace and Glory
Rejected alternatives: అవతారం, అవతరించింది
Original: ἐπιφαίνω / ἐπιφάνεια
Category: Christology

NEW. Renders ἐπιφαίνω/ἐπιφάνεια, the decisive, historical, once-for-all ‘shining forth’ of grace (2:11), Christ’s future glory (2:13), and God’s kindness (3:4). Built from ప్రత్యక్ష (‘visible/manifest before the eyes’), never from an అవతార- root. Tirupati’s Venkateswara (Balaji) temple keeps repeatable avatar-descent theology culturally live; this motif recurs three times in the core passage and every occurrence must be kept visibly distinct from that framework.

Renewal

Approved rendering: నూతనపరచుట
Transliteration: nūtanaparachuṭa
Doctrine: Regeneration by the Holy Spirit
Rejected alternatives: పరిశుద్ధపరచడం (sanctification, a related but distinct locked term)
Original: ἀνακαίνωσις
Category: Salvation

NEW. The Holy Spirit’s ongoing renewing work of the whole person (Titus 3:5), paired with but distinct from the one-time new birth (regeneration) and from sanctification. Keep all three terminologically distinct.

Godliness

Approved rendering: దైవభక్తి
Transliteration: daivabhakti
Doctrine: Godliness and Ungodliness
Rejected alternatives: భక్తి (bare, without దైవ- prefix)
Original: εὐσέβεια
Category: Sanctification

NEW. Renders εὐσέβεια, Titus’s central positive character-goal (1:1; 2:12). Shares its భక్తి root with the term the baseline explicitly rejected as an alternative for faith (విశ్వాసం) due to Vaishnava/Shaiva devotional connotations. For godliness — a distinct Greek word — this root is correct, but every occurrence requires a companion note distinguishing విశ్వాసం (trust, root) from దైవభక్తి (godliness, fruit).

Ungodliness

Approved rendering: దైవభక్తిహీనత
Transliteration: daivabhakti-hīnata
Doctrine: Godliness and Ungodliness
Original: ἀσέβεια
Category: Sanctification

NEW. Direct antonym of దైవభక్తి (Titus 2:12); keep the దైవభక్తి root visible so the antonym pairing remains legible to learners.

Age Present Age

Approved rendering: యుగం (with caution) / ఈ లోకకాలము
Transliteration: yugam / ī lōkakālamu
Doctrine: Blessed Hope and Eternal Life
Rejected alternatives: యుగం used unguarded, without periphrasis or catechetical framing
Original: αἰών
Category: Eschatology

NEW. Renders αἰών (1:2 ‘before the ages’; 2:12 ‘the present age’). యుగం is also the exact term for the Hindu cosmological Yugas, a cyclical, declining-and-renewing time scheme. Biblical αἰών is strictly linear-historical. Prefer the periphrasis ఈ లోకకాలము wherever the cyclical association is a live risk; flag every occurrence.

Good Works

Approved rendering: సత్కార్యములు
Transliteration: satkāryamulu
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Rejected alternatives: క్రియలు (bare, insufficiently specific)
Original: καλὸν / ἀγαθὸν ἔργον
Category: Ethics

NEW. The single most-repeated load-bearing phrase in Titus (1:16; 2:7,14; 3:1,8,14). Every occurrence must be checked against 3:5’s explicit works-exclusion clause to preserve the sequence grace → works (fruit, never cause), mirroring the baseline’s Romans 4:4-5/11:5-6 grace-merit rule.

Mercy

Approved rendering: కనికరము
Transliteration: kanikaramu
Doctrine: Salvation by Grace not Works
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation

NEW. Renders ἔλεος, the stated basis of salvation in Titus 3:5. Must be kept distinct from baseline-locked కృప (grace): mercy names compassion toward those in misery/need (cf. 3:3’s vice list immediately prior); grace names unmerited favor generally. Both essential, not interchangeable.

Redeem Ransom

Approved rendering: విమోచించు
Transliteration: vimōchin̄chu
Doctrine: Redemption and Purification from Sin
Rejected alternatives: విడుదల (mere release, no price-paid nuance)
Original: λυτρόω
Category: Salvation

NEW. Renders λυτρόω (Titus 2:14), Christ’s atoning death as a costly ransom. Must retain the ‘price paid’ nuance; must not be assimilated to moksha/mukti-style liberation from a cosmic rebirth cycle — the same underlying concern the baseline documents for రక్షణ.

People For Gods Possession

Approved rendering: స్వకీయ ప్రజలు
Transliteration: svakīya prajalu
Doctrine: Universal Scope of Grace
Original: λαὸς περιούσιος
Category: Church

NEW. Renders λαὸς περιούσιος (Titus 2:14), echoing Exodus 19:5 covenant language. Must not suggest a privileged ethnic/social elite or caste-like hierarchy of belonging; every believer belongs equally, directly resonant with the baseline’s Dalit Christian mass-movement history note.

Training Grace

Approved rendering: శిక్షణ ఇచ్చుట
Transliteration: śikṣaṇa ivvuṭa
Doctrine: Grace That Trains for Godly Living
Original: παιδεύω
Category: Sanctification

NEW. Anchor verb (παιδεύω, Titus 2:12) for the curriculum’s namesake doctrine. Risk: శిక్షణ carries a harsh disciplinary/penal or military-training connotation in everyday Telugu; must be framed relationally (grace forming character out of love) so it is never misread as punishment for merit-failure, which would contradict the same passage’s grace-not-works doctrine.

Elder

Approved rendering: సంఘ పెద్దలు
Transliteration: sangha peddalu
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Rejected alternatives: పెద్దలు (bare — too easily read as generic community/caste elders)
Original: πρεσβύτερος
Category: Church

NEW, built on baseline-locked సంఘము. Renders πρεσβύτερος (Titus 1:5), the appointed office of spiritual oversight. Must be disambiguated from πρεσβύτης, ‘older man’ (2:2, no office), and from generic Indian village/caste-council ‘పెద్దలు,’ which carries no ecclesial ordination sense. The సంఘ- prefix is mandatory and non-optional.

Overseer Bishop

Approved rendering: సంఘాధ్యక్షుడు
Transliteration: sanghādhyakṣuḍu
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Rejected alternatives: బిషప్ (imports a modern denominational office not in view)
Original: ἐπίσκοπος
Category: Church

NEW. Renders ἐπίσκοπος (Titus 1:7), used interchangeably with πρεσβύτερος for the very same office. Genuine cross-denominational-consistency risk: episcopal-tradition readers (CSI/Anglican-descended, Lutheran) may hear a distinct, higher hierarchical office, while Baptist/independent-tradition readers correctly read it as a simple synonym. Curriculum materials must state explicitly that both Greek terms name one office in Titus 1:5-7.

Sound Doctrine

Approved rendering: హితబోధ
Transliteration: hitabōdha
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Rejected alternatives: సరైన బోధ (merely ‘correct,’ loses the health-metaphor)
Original: ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία
Category: Doctrine

NEW. Anchor term (ὑγιαίνουσα διδασκαλία) for the curriculum’s namesake doctrine, occurring five times (1:9,13; 2:1,2,8). Must be rendered identically across all five occurrences so the book-spanning medical metaphor (health-giving vs. disease-producing teaching) stays visible.

Reverent Demeanor

Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధతకు తగిన నడవడిక గలవారు
Transliteration: pariśuddhatakku tagina naḍavaḍika galavāru
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Rejected alternatives: అర్చకత్వ-based vocabulary (priestly/temple-office connotation)
Original: ἱεροπρεπής
Category: Ethics

NEW. Renders ἱεροπρεπής (Titus 2:3). The literal root (ἱερός, ‘sacred/temple’) risks a priestly/temple-office connotation Titus does not intend for these women; rendered strictly as demeanor, not office or ritual role.

Submit Be Subject

Approved rendering: లోబడుట
Transliteration: lōbaḍuṭa
Doctrine: Submission to Authority
Rejected alternatives: ధార్మిక కర్తవ్యం (merit-earning duty)
Original: ὑποτάσσω
Category: Authority

NEW. Renders ὑποτάσσω, one Greek verb spanning wives (2:5), bondservants (2:9), and citizens before rulers (3:1). Must be rendered consistently across all three occurrences while remaining contextually clear which relationship is meant; must not read as merit-earning obligation, since biblical submission is voluntary gospel witness.

Rulers Authorities

Approved rendering: అధికారులు / అధికారములు
Transliteration: adhikārulu / adhikāramulu
Doctrine: Submission to Authority
Original: ἀρχή, ἐξουσία
Category: Authority

NEW. Renders ἀρχή/ἐξουσία (Titus 3:1), human civil government. Must be kept distinct from ἐπιταγή (authoritative_command, Titus’s own derived teaching authority, 2:15) so civil and ecclesial authority are never conflated.

Heirs

Approved rendering: వారసులు
Transliteration: vārasulu
Doctrine: Heirs and Inheritance
Original: κληρονόμος
Category: Salvation

NEW. Renders κληρονόμος (Titus 3:7), extending the logic of the baseline-locked దత్తపుత్రత్వం (adoption) doctrine without duplicating its term. Must convey inheritance as God’s own children, not a merely legal/secular property sense, and not a karma-merited inheritance.

Hope

Approved rendering: నిరీక్షణ
Transliteration: nirīkṣaṇa
Doctrine: Blessed Hope and Eternal Life
Rejected alternatives: ఆశ (mere wish/desire, lacks certainty)
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Eschatology

NEW. Renders ἐλπίς (1:2; 2:13 ‘blessed hope’; 3:7 ‘hope of eternal life’), confident expectation grounded in God’s character. Must not collapse into ఆశ, which in everyday Telugu reads as uncertain wishing.

Eternal Life

Approved rendering: నిత్యజీవం
Transliteration: nityajīvam
Doctrine: Blessed Hope and Eternal Life
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology

NEW. Renders ζωὴ αἰώνιος (1:2; 3:7). Must convey unending, personal, relational, bodily-resurrection life with God, guarding against a moksha-adjacent misreading (impersonal absorption or release from rebirth) — the same underlying concern the baseline documents for రక్షణ.

Divisive Person

Approved rendering: భేదోత్పాదకుడు
Transliteration: bhēdōtpādakuḍu
Doctrine: Avoiding Divisive Controversies
Rejected alternatives: మతభ్రష్టుడు (imports the later, fully technical ‘heretic’ sense)
Original: αἱρετικὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Church Discipline

NEW. Renders αἱρετικὸς ἄνθρωπος (Titus 3:10), root of English ‘heretic,’ but here (pre-technical usage) names relational factiousness/party-spirit, not exclusively formal doctrinal heresy. Has real church-discipline stakes for living congregations.

Husband Of One Wife

Approved rendering: ఏకపత్నీ భర్త
Transliteration: ēkapatnī bharta
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Original: μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρα
Category: Church

NEW. Renders μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἄνδρα (Titus 1:6), a marital-fidelity qualification for the elder office. Handle with pastoral sensitivity across the varied marital and family histories represented among Telugu learners.

Profession Versus Practice

Approved rendering: దేవుని ఎరుగుదుమని ఒప్పుకొనుచు, క్రియలచేత ఆయనను ఎరుగమని చెప్పుచున్నారు
Transliteration: Dēvuni erugudumani oppukon̄uchu, kriyalachēta āyananu erugamani cheppuchunnāru
Doctrine: Confronting False Teaching
Original: ὁμολογοῦσιν εἰδέναι τὸν θεόν, τοῖς δὲ ἔργοις ἀρνοῦνται
Category: Doctrine

NEW. Renders Titus 1:16’s sharp irony (‘they profess to know God but by their works deny him’), load-bearing for the whole book’s argument. Must not be softened into a milder ‘inconsistency.‘

Medium Risk Terms

Faith

Approved rendering: విశ్వాసం
Transliteration: viswāsam
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: భక్తి
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. In Titus, every occurrence of దైవభక్తి (godliness) must be explicitly distinguished from విశ్వాసం so that trust-in-Christ (root) and godly devotion (fruit) are never collapsed into one merit-generating piety concept.

Law

Approved rendering: ధర్మశాస్త్రము
Transliteration: dharmaśāstramu
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Subject of the unproductive quarrels named in Titus 3:9 and the ‘circumcision party’ controversy of 1:10. Do not coin a niyama-based alternative.

Apostle

Approved rendering: అపొస్తలుడు
Transliteration: apostaluḍu
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: గురువు
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Paul’s self-identification, Titus 1:1.

Peace

Approved rendering: శాంతి
Transliteration: śānti
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: మనశ్శాంతి
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unaltered. Paired with grace in the letter’s opening greeting, Titus 1:4.

Lawlessness

Approved rendering: అధర్మం
Transliteration: adharmam
Doctrine: Redemption and Purification from Sin
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Sin

NEW. Renders ἀνομία (Titus 2:14), distinct from ἁμαρτία (baseline-locked పాపం, sin generally). The baseline rejected అధర్మం as a rendering for sin precisely because it under-specifies personal guilt before a personal God; here it is the CORRECT word because the Greek itself specifies lawlessness. Do not confuse the two distinct Greek terms.

Purify Cleanse

Approved rendering: శుద్ధిచేయు
Transliteration: śuddhicheyu
Doctrine: Redemption and Purification from Sin
Rejected alternatives: పరిశుద్ధపరచడం (sanctification, related but distinct locked term)
Original: καθαρίζω
Category: Salvation

NEW. Renders καθαρίζω (Titus 2:14), Christ’s decisive one-time cleansing-purchase. Keep terminologically distinct from baseline-locked sanctification so this purchase-event is never confused with the Spirit’s ongoing sanctifying work.

Older Man

Approved rendering: వృద్ధులు
Transliteration: vṛddhulu
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: πρεσβύτης
Category: Ethics

NEW. Renders πρεσβύτης (Titus 2:2), a general age-demographic term, NOT the office of elder, despite sharing the same Greek root as πρεσβύτερος. Must be kept visibly distinct from సంఘ పెద్దలు.

Pure Chaste

Approved rendering: పవిత్రమైన / నిష్కళంకమైన
Transliteration: pavitramaina / niṣkalaṅkamaina
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Rejected alternatives: పరిశుద్ధ (would duplicate ἅγιος, the locked term for a different Greek word)
Original: ἁγνός
Category: Ethics

NEW. Renders ἁγνός (Titus 2:5), moral/sexual purity and chastity specifically, a near-synonym of but distinct from ἅγιος (corporate set-apartness).

Devout Personal Piety

Approved rendering: పవిత్రప్రవర్తనగలవాడు
Transliteration: pavitrapravartana galavāḍu
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Rejected alternatives: పరిశుద్ధ (would duplicate ἅγιος within the same elder-qualification list)
Original: ὅσιος
Category: Church

NEW. Renders ὅσιος (Titus 1:8), personal devoutness, a near-synonym of ἅγιος emphasizing individual piety rather than corporate set-apart status. Requires its own distinct phrase to avoid redundant collision within the same list.

Adorn The Teaching

Approved rendering: బోధను అలంకరించు
Transliteration: bōdhanu alaṅkarin̄chu
Doctrine: Gospel Credibility Before Outsiders
Original: κοσμέω
Category: Doctrine

NEW. Renders κοσμέω (Titus 2:10). Must not be read as decorative/superficial ‘polishing’; the sense is that consistent godly conduct renders the gospel’s claims credible and winsome before outsiders.

Obey Authority

Approved rendering: విధేయులై యుండు
Transliteration: vidhēyulai uṇḍu
Doctrine: Submission to Authority
Original: πειθαρχέω
Category: Authority

NEW. Renders πειθαρχέω (Titus 3:1), practical compliance with legitimate civil authority. Cognate with baseline-locked విశ్వాస విధేయత family; frames civic obedience as an expression of faith-produced obedience, not independent merit-earning duty.

Foolish Controversies

Approved rendering: మూఢమైన తర్కములు / వివాదములు
Transliteration: mūḍhamaina tarkamulu / vivādamulu
Doctrine: Avoiding Divisive Controversies
Original: μωραὶ ζητήσεις
Category: Church Discipline

NEW. Renders μωραὶ ζητήσεις (Titus 3:9). Must convey pointless speculative wrangling, deliberately contrasted with 3:8’s ‘good and profitable’ good works — not legitimate theological inquiry.

Genealogies As Controversy

Approved rendering: వంశావళులు
Transliteration: vamśāvaḷulu
Doctrine: Avoiding Divisive Controversies
Original: γενεαλογία
Category: Church Discipline

NEW. Renders γενεαλογία (Titus 3:9). Context-specific to unproductive lineage disputes in Crete; not a blanket judgment on all biblical genealogical material (e.g., Matthew 1).

Quarrels About Law

Approved rendering: ధర్మశాస్త్రమును గూర్చిన వాదములు
Transliteration: dharmaśāstramunu gūrchina vādamulu
Doctrine: Avoiding Divisive Controversies
Original: ἔρεις καὶ μάχαι νομικαί
Category: Covenant

NEW, reusing baseline-locked ధర్మశాస్త్రము. Renders ἔρεις καὶ μάχαι νομικαί (Titus 3:9), echoing the ‘circumcision party’ controversy of 1:10.

Kindness

Approved rendering: దయ / మంచితనం
Transliteration: daya / man̄chitanam
Doctrine: Mercy, Kindness, and the Saving Work of God
Original: χρηστότης
Category: God

NEW. Renders χρηστότης (Titus 3:4), God’s active benevolent disposition in action, distinct from but closely related to grace. The turning-point word of 3:4’s ‘But when…’.

Philanthropy Love For Mankind

Approved rendering: మానవుల యెడల ప్రేమ
Transliteration: mānavula yeḍala prēma
Doctrine: Mercy, Kindness, and the Saving Work of God
Original: φιλανθρωπία
Category: God

NEW. Renders φιλανθρωπία (Titus 3:4), a rare NT word. Must not be read as secular humanitarianism detached from God; names God’s own posture of love toward humanity generally.

Slave Of God

Approved rendering: దేవుని దాసుడు
Transliteration: Dēvuni dāsuḍu
Doctrine: Apostolic Commission and Divine Calling
Original: δοῦλος θεοῦ
Category: Ministry

NEW. Renders δοῦλος θεοῦ (Titus 1:1), Paul’s self-identification as wholly belonging to God. Total, willing ownership-belonging, not a diminished or degrading status.

Experiential Knowledge Of Truth

Approved rendering: సత్యమును గూర్చిన అనుభవపూర్వక జ్ఞానం
Transliteration: satyamunu gūrchina anubhavapūrvaka jñānam
Doctrine: Apostolic Commission and Divine Calling
Original: ἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας
Category: Faith

NEW. Renders ἐπίγνωσις ἀληθείας (Titus 1:1), a deepening, experiential grasp of gospel truth, distinct from mere information (γνῶσις).

Devoted To Good Works

Approved rendering: ముందుండి నడిపించు / అభ్యసించు
Transliteration: munduṇḍi naḍipin̄chu / abhyasin̄chu
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: προΐστημι / φροντίζω
Category: Ethics

NEW. Renders προΐστημι/φροντίζω (Titus 3:8,14), careful, ongoing, deliberate engagement in good works — the letter’s structural bookend to 2:14’s ‘zealous for good works.‘

Rebuke Reprove

Approved rendering: ఖండించు
Transliteration: khaṇḍin̄chu
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: ἐλέγχω
Category: Ministry

NEW. Renders ἐλέγχω (Titus 1:9,13; 2:15), authoritative correction that exposes error, paired with exhortation as a dual pastoral task. Must convey pastoral, authoritative correction, not harsh personal insult.

Authoritative Command

Approved rendering: ఆజ్ఞాధికారము
Transliteration: ājñādhikāramu
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: ἐπιταγή
Category: Ministry

NEW. Renders ἐπιταγή (Titus 2:15; also 1:3 of God’s own command), Titus’s derived, delegated apostolic-teaching authority. Must be distinguished from అధికారులు/అధికారములు (civil rulers, 3:1).

Blameless

Approved rendering: నిందారహితుడు
Transliteration: nindārahituḍu
Doctrine: Qualifications for Elders
Original: ἀνέγκλητος
Category: Church

NEW. Renders ἀνέγκλητος (Titus 1:6-7), the governing qualification-word for the whole elder-qualification list.

Divisive Teachers Judaizing

Approved rendering: సున్నతి పక్షమువారు
Transliteration: sunnati pakṣamuvāru
Doctrine: Confronting False Teaching
Original: οἱ ἐκ περιτομῆς
Category: Church Discipline

NEW. Renders οἱ ἐκ περιτομῆς (Titus 1:10), the specific Judaizing legalism opposed in Titus. Must be framed as a historical Judaizing controversy, not a general statement about Jewish people.

Insubordinate Deceivers

Approved rendering: అవిధేయులు / వ్యర్థమాటలాడువారు / మనసులను మోసపరచువారు
Transliteration: avidhēyulu / vyarthamāṭalāḍuvāru / manasulanu mōsaparachuvāru

Transliteration: vṛddhurāṇḍru
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: πρεσβῦτις
Category: Ethics

NEW. Renders πρεσβῦτις (Titus 2:3), the parallel demographic term to πρεσβύτης, feminine; no office implied.

Faithful Saying

Approved rendering: ఈ వాక్యము నమ్మదగినది
Transliteration: ī vākyamu nammadaginadi
Doctrine: Sound Doctrine and Good Works
Original: Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος
Category: Doctrine

NEW. Renders Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος (Titus 3:8), a Pauline formulaic marker (cf. 1 Tim 1:15; 3:1; 4:9; 2 Tim 2:11) flagging 3:4-7 as a reliable, creed-like gospel summary.

Defiled

Approved rendering: అపవిత్రపరచబడినవారు
Transliteration: apavitraparachabaḍinavāru
Doctrine: Confronting False Teaching
Original: μιαίνω (μεμιαμμένοις)

Transliteration: manasu mariyu manaḥsākṣi
Doctrine: Confronting False Teaching
Original: νοῦς καὶ ἡ συνείδησις

Transliteration:
Doctrine: Confronting False Teaching
Original: Κρῆτες ἀεὶ ψεῦσται, κακὰ θηρία, γαστέρες ἀργαί
Category: Scripture

NEW. Renders the Epimenides quotation (Titus 1:12). A footnote clarifying this is an attributed citation of a non-Christian Cretan poet (not Paul’s own novel insult) is recommended for learner materials.
