Core Glossary
Core Glossary — Philippians (English/Greek → Telugu)
How to Read This Glossary
- Status = “Baseline reuse”: the term is already recorded in the Romans
translation_memory.json/bible_term_registry.json. The Telugu rendering below is copied exactly and MUST NOT be altered for Philippians. - Status = “NEW”: the term does not appear in the baseline Romans package and is introduced here for the Philippians curriculum. Renderings follow the same methodology (established Telugu Protestant/Baptist Christian usage, formal register, syncretism-risk review) used to build the baseline.
- Risk tiers (Critical/High/Medium/Low) follow the identical definitions used in the baseline
doctrine_risk_registry.json. - All Telugu-script renderings below are in the destination script; transliterations are supplied for reviewer convenience only and must never appear in final learner-facing output.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Form of God | μορφή θεοῦ | morphē theou | దేవుని స్వరూపము | Dēvuni svarūpamu | Critical | Christ’s essential, undiminished divine nature. NEVER అవతారం-adjacent phrasing; must not read as one of many divine appearances (Tirupati/Venkateswara avatar association). |
| Equality with God | ἴσα θεῷ | isa theō | దేవునితో సమానత్వం | Dēvunitō samānatvam | Critical | Full ontological equality, not honorary elevation. |

Flag for theologian review at every occurrence per baseline ambiguity-handling protocol. |
| Emptied himself (kenosis) | ἐκένωσεν (κενόω) | ekenōsen | తన్నుతానే వట్టివానిగా చేసుకొనెను | tannutānē vaṭṭivānigā chēsukonenu | Critical | The single highest-stakes term in this curriculum. Must convey voluntary self-emptying of privilege/glory, NOT loss of divine essence (guard against kenotic heresy) and NOT a temporary avatar-descent (guard against syncretism). Mandatory theologian review every occurrence. |
| Form of a servant | μορφὴν δούλου | morphēn doulou | దాసుని స్వరూపము | dāsuni svarūpamu | High | Genuine slave-nature, deliberately contrasted with δεότητος form of v.6. |
| Likeness of men | ὁμοίωμα ἀνθρώπων | homoiōma anthrōpōn | మనుష్యుల పోలిక | manuṣyula polika | High | Real, not illusory, humanity (anti-docetic; avoid māyā-adjacent “mere appearance” reading). |

| Contentment | αὐτάρκης / αὐτάρκεια | autarkēs / autarkeia | సంతృప్తి | santṛpti | High | Risk of conflation with Santosha (a classical Niyama of Patanjali’s Yoga — self-achieved equanimity/detachment). Approved rendering: క్రీస్తు
Transliteration: Krīstu
Doctrine: Exaltation and Lordship of Christ

Category: Eschatology

Original: γνῶσις / γινώσκω Χριστόν
Category: Faith
NEW; PROMOTED from High to Critical per Step 8 linguistic gap analysis recommendation #1, given severity equal to the baseline’s మోక్షం prohibition. Phil 3:8, 3:10. జ్ఞానం names, in the surrounding Vedantic tradition, a liberating gnosis that is itself the path to మోక్షం — structurally identical danger to the baseline’s salvation-term prohibition. Doctrine: The Incarnation and Self-Emptying of Christ (Kenosis)

Original: ταπεινοφροσύνη
Category: Unity and Humility
NEW. Phil 2:3, embodied in 2:6-8. A freely chosen Christlike disposition available to every believer regardless of status, NOT a caste-conditioned lowliness historically imposed on the socially subordinate — always anchor to Christ’s own voluntary self-lowering.

Transliteration: āyana bādhalalō sahavāsam

Transliteration: paralōka pauraṣatvam
Doctrine: Citizenship in Heaven
Original: πολίτευμα ἐν οὐρανοῖς
Category: Citizenship
NEW. Phil 3:20 (πολίτευμα). పౌరసత్వం is a modern secular-civic word; risk is domestication into a secondary loyalty layered atop caste/denominational-family identity. Every teaching occurrence must explicitly frame heavenly citizenship as PRIMARY, outranking earthly national, caste, or denominational-family identity.

Doctrine: Citizenship in Heaven
Original: ἐχθροὶ τοῦ σταυροῦ

Approved rendering: కృపగా అనుగ్రహించబడింది
Transliteration: kṛpagā anugrahin̄chabaḍindi
Doctrine: Suffering as a Grace-Given Privilege
Rejected alternatives: అనుమతించబడింది (merely ‘allowed’ — flattens the deliberate grace-wordplay)
Original: χαρίζομαι (+ πάσχειν)
Category: Joy and Suffering
NEW. Phil 1:29 (χαρίζομαι + πάσχειν). Deliberately reuses కృప exactly to preserve Paul’s wordplay linking suffering with grace-vocabulary; must resist a karmic-consequence reading given the region’s living karma/fatalism idiom.

Transliteration: suvārtalō sahavāsam
Doctrine: Partnership in the Gospel
Original: κοινωνία εἰς τὸ εὐαγγέλιον

Doctrine: Contentment in All Circumstances
Original: αὐτάρκης / αὐτάρκεια
Category: Contentment
NEW. Phil 4:11 (αὐτάρκεια). Risks conflation with Santosha, a classical Niyama of Patanjali’s Yoga tradition (self-achieved equanimity through personal discipline). STRUCTURAL RULE: never present సంతృప్తి without v.13’s బలపరచువాడు in the same teaching unit.

Transliteration: dēvudē mīlō kāryasādhana cheyuvāḍu
Doctrine: Obedience Flowing from Christ’s Pattern

Transliteration: rakshananu sādhin̄chukonuḍi
Doctrine: Obedience Flowing from Christ’s Pattern
Rejected alternatives: రక్షణను సంపాదించుకొనుడి (FORBIDDEN — ‘earn/acquire your salvation,’ directly implies merit-based salvation)
NEW. Phil 2:12 (κατεργάζεσθε τὴν ἑαυτῶν σωτηρίαν). Reuses baseline రక్షణ exactly; must never appear without god_who_works_in_you (2:13) in the same teaching unit — this is a structural pairing rule, not merely a lexical one, preserving the baseline’s grace-not-merit distinction enforced for Romans 3-4 and 11:5-6.
Obedience
Approved rendering: విధేయత
Transliteration: vidhēyata
Doctrine: Obedience Flowing from Christ’s Pattern

Original: σύμψυχοι
Category: Unity and Humility
NEW. Phil 2:2 (σύμψυχοι), anticipated at 1:27 (μιᾷ ψυχῇ). Avoid the monistic ‘one universal soul’ reading given this region’s Advaita/Vedantic associations.

Transliteration: nīti phalamu
Doctrine: Righteousness by Faith versus the Law

Transliteration: satyamainavi, ghanamainavi, nyāyamainavi, pariśuddhamainavi, priyamainavi, man̄chi kīrti galavi, sadguṇamugalavi, stutipātramainavi
Doctrine: Contentment in All Circumstances
Rejected alternatives: Elevated dharma-vocabulary synonyms for individual items (సత్య, ధర్మ, పుణ్య, గుణ as standalone Sanskrit-cognate philosophical terms) — rejected as a class because their cumulative effect could read as a generic Hindu universal-ethics list
NEW gap term (Phil 4:8). Each of the eight qualities rendered with its plain, non-technical Telugu equivalent rather than elevated dharma-vocabulary; any teaching commentary must explicitly tie the list back to 4:9’s gospel-content anchor so it is not read as generic universal ethics.
