Core Glossary
Core Glossary: Matthew — English → Telugu
Per-Term Translation Risk Table (Full-Book Coverage)
This glossary extends the baseline Romans (telugu) translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json. Terms marked REUSE (baseline) carry the Telugu rendering already locked by the Romans Language Package and MUST NOT be altered. Terms marked NEW (Matthew) are proposed additions specific to this curriculum, following the same risk-tier conventions, register, and script rules established by the baseline. All renderings are in Telugu script with formal register consistent with established Telugu Protestant/Baptist Bible usage, per the baseline’s locked denominational conventions (పరిశుద్ధాత్మ not పవిత్రాత్మ; పరిశుద్ధ not పవిత్ర; సంఘము not సభ).

Section C — Risk-Tier Summary for Matthew-Specific New Terms
| Risk Tier | Count (Section B) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 15 | Human theologian review — every occurrence |
| High | 15 | Human theologian review |
| Medium | 15 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 6 | Automated review |
Cross-reference: See analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md for full verse-level and chapter-level context of every term above, and the forthcoming doctrine_risk_registry.json update (Phase 1 Step 2) for doctrine-level risk routing consistent with this glossary.
Major new syncretism flags requiring priority theologian attention (beyond those already established in the Romans baseline):
- Gates of Hades / Hades generally — avoid పాతాళలోకం (Hindu Puranic underworld).
- Transfiguration — avoid అవతారం-adjacent shape-shifting framing.
- To the End of the Age — avoid యుగము (cyclical Hindu cosmological ages) where a linear, terminal sense is intended.
- Worship (προσκυνέω) of Christ — must escalate from generic నమస్కారము to ఆరాధించు in Christological confession contexts.
- Eternal Punishment — must preserve real, unending, conscious judgment against a karmic-temporariness misreading.
This glossary must be loaded alongside the Romans baseline translation_memory.json for all Phase 2 Matthew segment translation. New terms in Section B are proposed for formal addition to an updated translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json in a subsequent Phase 1 step.
Critical Risk Terms
Salvation
Approved rendering: రక్షణ
Transliteration: rakshana
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: మోక్షం, ముక్తి
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: NEVER మోక్షం or ముక్తి. Matthew 1:21 grounds the very name ‘Jesus’ in this deliverance (‘he will save his people from their sins’).
Resurrection
Approved rendering: పునరుత్థానం
Transliteration: punarutthānam
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: పునర్జన్మ
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἐγείρω
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: NEVER పునర్జన్మ. Central at Matthew 22:23-32 (Sadducees’ debate), 27:52-53 (saints raised), and 28:6-7 (the empty tomb).
Lord
Approved rendering: ప్రభువు
Transliteration: prabhuvu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: స్వామి
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Matthew 12:8 (‘Lord of the Sabbath’) and the mammon ‘two masters’ saying (6:24) both press exclusive-lordship logic; must not read as one lord/master among several in a devotional culture accustomed to multiple deity-relationships.
Son Of God

Transliteration: Dēvuni Kumāruḍu
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: అవతారపురుషుడు

Inherited from Romans package. Repeated confessional climax points across Matthew: 3:17; 14:33; 16:16; 17:5; 26:63; 27:40,43,54. Must never be applied to believers’ derived, plural sonship (5:9,45; 28:19’s baptismal ‘Son’).

Transliteration: śarīradhāraṇa
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: అవతారం
Original: (theological name for Matt 1:18-23)

Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: NEVER అవతారం. Matthew 1:18-23 is the Gospel’s foundational Incarnation text, reinforced by the new ‘Immanuel’ and ‘virgin’ entries below.
Messiah

Transliteration: Messīya / Krīstu
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: అవతారపురుషుడు
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Matthew opens (1:1,16) and repeatedly climaxes (16:16,20; 26:63,68) on this title; never one of several avatar-descents, and never assimilated to the Tirupati/Venkateswara avatar-descent tradition.
Jesus
Approved rendering: యేసు
Transliteration: Yēsu

Imputed Righteousness
Approved rendering: ఆపాదింపబడిన నీతి
Transliteration: āpādimpabaḍina nīti
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: స్వార్జిత నీతి
Original: (concept, cf. Rom 4:3)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Held in reserve as background theology informing Matthew 5:6,20’s righteousness-hunger texts; not directly lexicalized in Matthew itself but useful for teaching cross-reference.
Son Of David
Approved rendering: దావీదు కుమారుడు
Transliteration: Dāvīdu Kumāruḍu
Doctrine: Jesus as the Promised Messiah and Son of David
Original: υἱὸς Δαυίδ
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). A direct messianic royal title invoked repeatedly by petitioners (9:27; 15:22; 20:30-31; 21:9,15), distinct from the descriptive ‘seed of David.’ Must consistently carry royal-messianic force, never flattened to mere biological descent.
Immanuel
Approved rendering: ఇమ్మానుయేలు
Transliteration: Immānuyēlu
Doctrine: Incarnation
Original: Ἐμμανουήλ
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). ‘God with us’ (1:23). Must retain BOTH the transliterated proper name AND its translated gloss (దేవుడు మనతో కూడా ఉన్నాడు) per the text’s own explanation. Never allow అవతారం association.
Virgin
Approved rendering: కన్యక
Transliteration: kanyaka
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: యువతి
Original: παρθένος
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). The miraculous, fatherless conception of Christ (1:23). Never softened to ‘young woman’ (యువతి), which would undermine the Incarnation and Deity of Christ doctrines.
Son Of Man
Approved rendering: మనుష్యకుమారుడు
Transliteration: manuṣyakumāruḍu
Doctrine: Deity of Christ / Judgment and the End of the Age
Rejected alternatives: ఒక మనిషి (mere human being)
Original: ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). Jesus’ characteristic self-designation (~30x), drawing on Daniel 7’s heavenly authoritative figure while affirming full humanity. Must not be flattened to mean merely ‘a human being.’ First occurrence 8:20; recurs through the Passion (26:64) and Parousia (24:30).
Lord Of The Sabbath
Approved rendering: సబ్బాతుకు ప్రభువు
Transliteration: sabbātuku prabhuvu
Doctrine: Deity of Christ

Transliteration: pariśuddhātmaku virōdhamaina dūṣaṇa
Doctrine: The Unforgivable Sin: Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Original: βλασφημία τοῦ Πνεύματος
Category: Eschatology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 12:31-32. Settled, willful attribution of the Spirit’s clearly divine work to an evil source. Requires careful pastoral precision to avoid trivializing the warning OR inducing false, paralyzing guilt; risk of confusion with regional folk-spirit appeasement/curse frameworks if handled loosely.
Gates Of Hades
Approved rendering: మృతుల లోకపు ద్వారములు
Transliteration: mṛtula lōkapu dvāramulu
Doctrine: The Church and Church Discipline / Judgment
Rejected alternatives: పాతాళలోకం ద్వారములు
Original: πύλαι ᾅδου
Category: Eschatology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 16:18. MAJOR SYNCRETISM FLAG: the tempting cognate పాతాళలోకం must be AVOIDED — Pātāla-loka is a specific, named Hindu Puranic subterranean realm (home of the nāgas), an entirely different cosmology. This descriptive, non-mythological rendering is mandatory. Human theologian review required for every occurrence.
Transfiguration
Approved rendering: రూపాంతరం పొందు
Transliteration: rūpāntaraṁ pondu
Doctrine: The Transfiguration and the Unveiling of Divine Glory
Rejected alternatives: అవతారం-adjacent shape-shifting framing
Original: μεταμορφόω
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 17:2. MAJOR SYNCRETISM FLAG: must be clearly distinguished from Hindu avatar-transformation motifs (Vishnu’s various forms, Puranic shape-shifting deity narratives). A ONE-TIME unveiling of Christ’s own pre-existing, unchanging divine glory, not a transformation into a different form or a repeatable divine appearance.
Eternal Life
Approved rendering: నిత్యజీవం
Transliteration: nityajīvaṁ
Doctrine: The Kingdom of Heaven / Judgment and the End of the Age
Rejected alternatives: మోక్షం, ముక్తి
Original: ζωὴ αἰώνιος
Category: Salvation
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 19:16,29; 25:46. NEVER మోక్షం/ముక్తి or language implying release from a rebirth cycle. Unending relational fellowship with the personal, living God (cf. 16:16’s ‘living God’ qualifier). Human theologian review required for every occurrence.
Eternal Punishment
Approved rendering: నిత్యదండన
Transliteration: nityadaṇḍana
Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age
Rejected alternatives: తాత్కాలిక కర్మఫలము
Original: κόλασις αἰώνιος
Category: Eschatology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 25:46. Real, conscious, unending judgment — must NOT be softened into an exhaustible karmic consequence eventually followed by rebirth, a live competing framework in the surrounding culture. Symmetry with ‘eternal life’ must be preserved exactly. Human theologian review required.
Ransom
Approved rendering: మారుపెట్టు
Transliteration: māruppeṭṭu
Doctrine: Discipleship / The New Covenant and Christ’s Atoning Death
Original: λύτρον
Category: Salvation
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 20:28. Must not be pressed into a literal transaction paid TO a captor-deity, which could invite confusion with regional bali/appeasement-sacrifice traditions — this is substitutionary atonement by God’s own initiative in Christ. Human theologian review required.
Coming Of Son Of Man
Approved rendering: మనుష్యకుమారుని రాకడ
Transliteration: manuṣyakumāruni rākaḍa
Doctrine: The Second Coming of Christ
Rejected alternatives: avatar-descent framing
Original: ἡ παρουσία τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
Category: Eschatology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 24:3,27,30,37,39, echoing Daniel 7:13. MAJOR SYNCRETISM FLAG: must not be read through an avatar-descent framework (e.g., the periodic divine descents of the dashavatara tradition) — a single, literal, personal, terminal return.
This Is My Body
Approved rendering: ఇది నా శరీరము
Transliteration: idi nā śarīramu
Doctrine: The New Covenant and Christ’s Atoning Death
Original: τοῦτο ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου
Category: Sacraments
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 26:26. Render literally without theological gloss; do not resolve the historic transubstantiation/memorial debate within the translated text itself.
Blood Of Covenant
Approved rendering: నిబంధన రక్తము
Transliteration: nibandhana raktamu
Doctrine: The New Covenant and Christ’s Atoning Death
Original: τὸ αἷμά μου τῆς διαθήκης
Category: Covenant
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 26:28. Reuses baseline covenant and sin exactly; combines covenant and atonement theology in the foundational Passion text. Human theologian review required.
My God Why Forsaken
Approved rendering: నా దేవా, నా దేవా, నన్నెందుకు విడనాడితివి?
Transliteration: nā Dēvā, nā Dēvā, nannenduku viḍanāḍitivi?
Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age (atonement)
Original: Θεέ μου, Θεέ μου, ἵνα τί με ἐγκατέλιπες;
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 27:46, citing Psalm 22:1. Human theologian review required; do not soften or explain away the cry’s rawness in the translated text itself — theological explanation belongs to teaching commentary.
All Authority
Approved rendering: సర్వాధికారము
Transliteration: sarvādhikāramu
Doctrine: The Great Commission
Original: πᾶσα ἐξουσία ἐν οὐρανῷ καὶ ἐπὶ γῆς
Category: Christology

Trinitarian Formula
Approved rendering: తండ్రి, కుమారుడు, పరిశుద్ధాత్మ అనే నామమున
Transliteration: Tandri, Kumāruḍu, Pariśuddhātma anē nāmamuna

Rejected alternatives: plural ‘names’ rendering
Original: εἰς τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ Πατρὸς καὶ τοῦ Υἱοῦ καὶ τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος
Category: Sacraments
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 28:19. Reuses baseline father/holy_spirit exactly. The singular grammatical ‘name’ (not ‘names’) for three Persons is doctrinally significant and must NOT be pluralized. Human theologian review required.
High Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: కృప
Transliteration: kṛpa
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: పుణ్యం, కర్మఫలం
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Matthew 20:1-16 (laborers in the vineyard) and 20:28 (ransom) are key implicit-grace texts; must not be collapsed into the new Matthew-specific ‘merciful’ term (కనికరము) nor into a wage/entitlement reading.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: నీతి
Transliteration: nīti
Doctrine: Salvation / Righteousness Exceeding the Pharisees
Rejected alternatives: ధర్మం
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Matthew adds an ethical-covenantal register (5:6,20; 6:33) beyond Romans’ forensic emphasis; నీతి legitimately covers both senses and must never be replaced by ధర్మం, which would collapse the forensic dimension into mere rule-performance.
Called
Approved rendering: పిలువబడిన
Transliteration: piluvabaḍina
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: ఆహ్వానించబడిన
Original: κλητός / καλέω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package (risk elevated to High for this curriculum). Context-sensitive across at least three Matthean senses: the naming of Jesus (1:21,23,25), the call of the disciples (4:21), and effectual calling (22:14).
Calling
Approved rendering: పిలుపు
Transliteration: pilupu
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: ఆహ్వానం
Original: κλῆσις

Transliteration: pariśuddhaparachaḍam
Doctrine: Sanctification

Adoption
Approved rendering: దత్తపుత్రత్వం
Transliteration: dattaputratvam
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: దత్తత తీసుకోవడం
Original: υἱοθεσία (concept)
Category: Salvation

Church
Approved rendering: సంఘము
Transliteration: sanghamu
Doctrine: Church as God’s People / The Church and Church Discipline
Rejected alternatives: దేవాలయం, సభ
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church

Approved rendering: దేవుని రాజ్యం
Transliteration: Dēvuni Rājyam
Doctrine: Kingdom of Heaven (rare direct-form occurrences)
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package (risk elevated to High for this curriculum given interplay with the new ‘kingdom_of_heaven’ entry). Reserve EXCLUSIVELY for Matthew’s rare direct βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ occurrences (6:33 v.l.; 12:28; 19:24; 21:31,43). Do not interchange with పరలోకరాజ్యము, Matthew’s dominant circumlocution.
Law
Approved rendering: ధర్మశాస్త్రము
Transliteration: dharmaśāstramu
Doctrine: Jesus’ Fulfillment of the Law
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Central at 5:17-18 and the Great Commandment summary (22:36-40). Do not ‘fix’ to a niyama-based compound; this is Telugu’s own long-established, doctrinally safe rendering.
Sin
Approved rendering: పాపం
Transliteration: pāpam
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: అధర్మం
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Grounds the name ‘Jesus’ (1:21) and the Last Supper’s covenant blood (26:28). Distinct from the new Matthew-specific relational-debt term (అపరాధములు, 6:12).
Glory
Approved rendering: మహిమ
Transliteration: mahima
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: తేజస్సు
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Associated with the Son of Man’s coming (16:27; 24:30; 25:31); avoid light-only imagery merging with generic divine-radiance devotional associations.
Obedience Of Faith
Approved rendering: విశ్వాస విధేయత
Transliteration: viswāsa vidhēyata
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: ధార్మిక కర్తవ్యం
Original: ὑπακοὴ πίστεως (concept)
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Conceptually present in the wise-and-foolish-builder parable (7:24-27) and the Great Commission’s closing promise (28:20).
Power Of God
Approved rendering: దేవుని సామర్థ్యం
Transliteration: Dēvuni Sāmarthyam
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: శక్తి
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER శక్తి. Present at 22:29 (resurrection power) and 24:30/26:64 (the Son of Man’s exalted authority, ‘seated at the right hand of Power’).
Covenant
Approved rendering: నిబంధన
Transliteration: nibandhana
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant / New Covenant
Rejected alternatives: ఒప్పందం
Original: διαθήκη

Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: విధి, కర్మ
Original: ἐκλογή (concept; cf. ἐκλεκτός)
Category: Salvation

Transliteration: Dāvīdu vamśamulō puṭṭinavāḍu
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Original: σπέρμα Δαυίδ (concept)
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Descriptive genealogical phrase, distinct from the new Matthew-specific messianic TITLE ‘Son of David’ (దావీదు కుమారుడు) below — do not merge the two entries.
Kingdom Of Heaven
Approved rendering: పరలోకరాజ్యము
Transliteration: paralōka rājyamu
Doctrine: The Kingdom of Heaven
Rejected alternatives: పరలోకం (bare, unqualified)
Original: βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν
Category: Kingdom
NEW (Matthew). Matthew’s dominant reverential-circumlocution phrase (~32x) for God’s sovereign reign, theologically identical to దేవుని రాజ్యం. Never use bare పరలోకం for this concept — popular usage carries a vague, location-only afterlife register. Never place మోక్షం-adjacent phrasing near this term. Every first occurrence per lesson requires a teaching gloss distinguishing present reign from future consummation.
Worship Of Christ
Approved rendering: ఆరాధించు
Transliteration: ārādhin̄chu
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: నమస్కారము చేయు (in Christological confession contexts)
Original: προσκυνέω
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). προσκυνέω is context-dependent: ఆరాధించు (exclusive worship) is REQUIRED at 14:33 and 28:9,17 where Jesus’ deity is confessed. The more generic నమస్కారము may be used only for ordinary courtesy/obeisance not yet carrying full Christological confession weight (e.g., 2:2,8,11 requires theologian judgment case-by-case).
Authority
Approved rendering: అధికారం / సర్వాధికారము
Transliteration: adhikāraṁ / sarvādhikāramu
Doctrine: The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching
Original: ἐξουσία
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). అధికారం is ordinary Telugu for institutional/human authority; in Christological contexts (7:28-29; 9:6; 21:23-27; 28:18) it must be elevated to convey Jesus’ INHERENT, undelegated authority, contrasted with derivative scribal authority and distinguished from delegated apostolic authority. సర్వాధికారము reserved for 28:18’s maximal cosmic scope.
Blessed
Approved rendering: ధన్యులు
Transliteration: dhanyulu
Doctrine: Kingdom Blessedness (the Beatitudes)
Rejected alternatives: అదృష్టవంతులు
Original: μακάριος
Category: Kingdom
NEW (Matthew). Core passage term, Matthew 5:1-12. God’s specific declared approval, not luck or circumstance. Must NEVER be rendered అదృష్టవంతులు (‘lucky’), which imports a విధి (fate)-style framing already flagged elsewhere in this Language Package as inappropriate.
Poor In Spirit
Approved rendering: ఆత్మలో దీనులు
Transliteration: ātmalō dīnulu
Doctrine: Kingdom Blessedness (the Beatitudes)
Rejected alternatives: పేదవారు (economic poverty alone)
Original: πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι
Category: Kingdom
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 5:3. Total spiritual dependence on God; must not be softened to mere economic poverty nor moralized into general humility detached from utter dependence on God.

Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age
Original: διάβολος / Σατανᾶς

Demons
Approved rendering: దురాత్మలు
Transliteration: durātmalu
Doctrine: The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching / Judgment
Original: δαιμόνια
Category: Spiritual Warfare
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 8:16,28-34; 9:32-34; 12:22-28. Personal, malevolent spirit-beings subordinate to and defeated by Jesus’ authority; must not conflate with regional bhūta/preta folk-spirit categories or associated folk-exorcism/binding practices.
Yoke And Rest
Approved rendering: కాడి / విశ్రాంతి
Transliteration: kāḍi / viśrānti
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus / The Authority of Jesus’ Teaching
Original: ζυγός / ἀνάπαυσις
Category: Discipleship
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 11:29-30. Submission to Christ’s authority as restful, contrasted with Pharisaic ‘heavy burdens’ (23:4). ‘Rest for your souls’ must not be confused with moksha-style liberation from existence — this is relational rest with the living Christ.
The Coming One
Approved rendering: రాబోవువాడు
Transliteration: rābōvuvāḍu
Doctrine: Jesus as the Promised Messiah
Original: ὁ ἐρχόμενος
Category: Christology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 11:3 (John’s question). A specific messianic title echoing Isaiah 35, 61, not a generic ‘someone who is arriving.‘
Sign Of Jonah
Approved rendering: యోనా సూచన
Transliteration: Yōnā sūchana
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Original: τὸ σημεῖον Ἰωνᾶ
Category: Eschatology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 12:39-40. Jonah’s three days typologically prefiguring Christ’s resurrection; must be taught pointing forward to baseline resurrection పునరుత్థానం, never పునర్జన్మ.
Keys Of Kingdom
Approved rendering: పరలోకరాజ్యము తాళపుచెవులు
Transliteration: paralōka rājyamu tāḷapuchevulu
Doctrine: The Church and Church Discipline
Original: αἱ κλεῖδες τῆς βασιλείας τῶν οὐρανῶν
Category: Church
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 16:19. A symbol of delegated declarative authority to bind and loose. Learner-facing material must not resolve the historic Catholic/Protestant ecclesiological debate over this office in either direction.
Bind And Loose
Approved rendering: బంధించుట / విడిపించుట
Transliteration: bandhin̄chuṭa / viḍipin̄chuṭa
Doctrine: The Church and Church Discipline
Original: δέω / λύω
Category: Church
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 16:19; 18:18. Rabbinic idiom for authoritative community-governing declaration. Must NOT be read as magical/incantational binding of spirits, a live risk given regional folk-religious binding/exorcism practices.
Cross Take Up
Approved rendering: సిలువ
Transliteration: siluva
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus
Rejected alternatives: భారం (generic burden)
Original: ὁ σταυρός (αἴρω/λαμβάνω)
Category: Discipleship
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 10:38; 16:24. Must retain the full weight of a real, costly, shame-and-death-bearing instrument voluntarily taken up — never softened into a generic ‘burden’ idiom, even in simplified paraphrase editions.
Confess Deny
Approved rendering: ఒప్పుకొను / ఎరుగననుట
Transliteration: oppukonu / erugananuṭa
Doctrine: Discipleship and the Cost of Following Jesus / Lordship of Christ
Original: ὁμολογέω / ἀρνέομαι
Category: Discipleship
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 10:32-33. Public, verbal acknowledgment or repudiation of allegiance to Christ, with eschatological consequence — must echo the same confessional weight as Romans 10:9-10’s యేసు ప్రభువు.
Abomination Of Desolation
Approved rendering: నాశనకరమైన హేయమైనది
Transliteration: nāśanakaramaina hēyamainadi
Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age
Rejected alternatives: generic ‘disaster’ framing
Original: τὸ βδέλυγμα τῆς ἐρημώσεως
Category: Eschatology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 24:15, citing Daniel 9:27. A specific, technical eschatological term requiring substantial OT (Daniel) background teaching; without it, risks being read as a vague generic catastrophe.
Make Disciples
Approved rendering: శిష్యులనుగా చేయుడి
Transliteration: śiṣyulanugā cheyuḍi
Doctrine: The Great Commission
Original: μαθητεύω / μαθηταί
Category: Mission
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 28:19. RISK: శిష్యుడు (disciple) is also the standard Telugu word for a guru’s disciple in Hindu guru-śiṣya tradition. Every occurrence must be anchored to 28:18’s సర్వాధికారము so the discipling relationship is unmistakably grounded in Christ’s unique, cosmic authority.
End Of The Age
Approved rendering: లోకాంతము / కాలాంతము
Transliteration: lōkāntamu / kālāntamu
Doctrine: Judgment and the End of the Age
Rejected alternatives: యుగసమాప్తి
Original: ἡ συντέλεια τοῦ αἰῶνος
Category: Eschatology
NEW (Matthew). Matthew 28:20; cf. 13:39-40,49; 24:3. SYNCRETISM FLAG: యుగము is heavily loaded with Hindu cyclical-cosmic-age (yuga) associations; లోకాంతము/కాలాంతము conveys a single, linear, non-repeating consummation of history. Human theologian review required.
Medium Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: సువార్త
Transliteration: suvārta
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: వార్త
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Matthew pairs this with ‘kingdom’ (4:23; 9:35; 24:14; 26:13), tying it directly to the Kingdom of Heaven doctrine; no new syncretism risk beyond the baseline’s consistency concern.
Faith
Approved rendering: విశ్వాసం
Transliteration: viswāsam
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: భక్తి
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Matthew 8:10 (centurion) and 15:28 (Canaanite woman) commend Gentile faith exceeding that found in Israel; residual risk distinguishing విశ్వాసం from devotional భక్తి remains as per baseline.
Apostle
Approved rendering: అపొస్తలుడు
Transliteration: apostaluḍu
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: గురువు
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Matthew 10:2 names the Twelve; distinguish from గురువు (guru), which implies self-attained rather than delegated authority.
Saints
Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధులు
Transliteration: pariśuddhulu
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: సాధువులు
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at Matthew 27:52 (the resurrected ‘saints’).
Peace
Approved rendering: శాంతి
Transliteration: śānti
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: మనశ్శాంతి
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Matthew 10:34 (‘not peace but a sword’) targets social/familial harmony, a different register rendered సమాధానము there — do not let the two collide in teaching.
