Core Glossary
Core Glossary: 2 Corinthians | English → Telugu
This glossary extends the baseline Romans translation_memory.json for the 2 Corinthians curriculum. Section A lists terms reused unchanged from the baseline — these renderings are locked and MUST NOT be altered. Section B lists new terms surfaced by the 2 Corinthians semantic analysis (07_semantic_analysis.md), proposed for addition to translation memory in Phase 2, using the same risk framework as the baseline.

Section B — New Terms Introduced by 2 Corinthians
| # | English gloss | Greek (translit.) | Telugu rendering | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine(s) | Chapters | Rationale / Rejected alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | new creation | καινὴ κτίσις (kainē ktisis) | నూతన సృష్టి | nūtana sṛṥṭi | Critical | New Creation in Christ | 5:17 | సృష్టి carries live Puranic association with the cyclical creation-preservation-dissolution cosmology (Brahma’s repeated cosmic creation); must be taught as a definitive, non-repeating, Christ-wrought transformation. No safe alternative exists that avoids సృష్టి entirely without sounding foreign; retain with mandatory teaching-note support. |
| 2 | reconciliation / to reconcile | καταλλαγή / καταλλάσσω (katallagē / katallassō) | సమాధానము కలుగజేయుట / సమాధానపరచు | samādhānamu kaluṡajēyuṭa / samādhānaparachu | Critical | Reconciliation with God | 5:18,19,20; (implied 5:11-21 core anchor) | Matches established Telugu Bible (OV) rendering of 2 Cor 5:18-19. Distinct from శాంతి (baseline “peace,” the resulting relational state); this is the act of restoring an estrangement, God alone the initiating agent. Rejected alternative: ఒప్పందం-style “settlement” framing (baseline already rejects this register for covenant; same logic applies — too transactional). |
| 3 | to impute / not to count (against) | λογίζομαι (logizomai) | ఆపాదించు (negative use: వారి మీద మోపకుండుట) | āpādin̄chu | Critical | Reconciliation with God; ties to baseline Justification | 5:19 | Must echo baseline’s ఆపాదింపబడిన నీతి root exactly; here used negatively (non-imputation of trespasses), the forensic mirror-image of imputed righteousness. Rejected alternative: a generic “forgive” gloss that loses the forensic-accounting sense. |
| 4 | trespass / offense | παράπτωμα (paraptōma) | అపరాధము | aparādhamu | Medium | Reconciliation with God | 5:19 | Distinguished from baseline’s పాపం (broader sin category, ἁμαρτία); అపరాధము denotes the specific relational offense counted or not counted against a person. |
| 5 | ambassador | πρεσβεύω (presbeuō) | రాయబారి / రాయబారులము | rāyabāri / rāyabārulamu | High | Sincerity and Apostolic Authority; Reconciliation with God | 5:20 | Established Telugu OV rendering; must convey divine commissioning, not a merely political/secular diplomatic role. |
| 6 | boast / boasting | καύχημα / καύχησις / καυχάομαι (kauchēma / kauchēsis / kauchaomai) | అతిశయము / అతిశయపడు | atiśayamu / atiśayapaḍu | High | Genuine vs False Apostleship; Sincerity and Apostolic Authority | 5:12; 7:4,14; 8:24; 9:2,3; 10:8,13,15,16,17; 11:10,12,16-18,30; 12:1,5,6,9 | Wide semantic range spanning sinful self-glorying (opponents) to legitimate confidence in God’s work; each occurrence must be individually disambiguated. Matches Romans 3:27’s established Telugu term. |
| 7 | fear (of the Lord/God) | φόβος (κυρίου/θεοῦ) (phobos) | భయము (ప్రభువు/దేవుని భయము) | bhayamu | Medium | Sincerity and Apostolic Authority | 5:11; 7:1,11 | Must convey reverential awe, not servile terror nor occult superstition-fear. |
| 8 | conscience | συνείδησις (syneidēsis) | మనస్సాక్షి | manassākshi | Low–Medium | Sincerity and Apostolic Authority | 1:12; 4:2; 5:11 | Inner moral witness validating apostolic integrity. |
| 9 | sincerity / guilelessness | εἰλικρίνεια / ἁπλότης (eilikrineia / haplotēs) | నిష్కపటత్వం | niṣkapaṭatvam | High | Sincerity and Apostolic Authority | 1:12; 2:17; 4:2 | Established Telugu OV term (2 Cor 1:12). NOTE: same Greek word ἁπλότης shifts sense in chs. 8–9 (see #23 below, “generosity”) — the two senses must be tracked separately though the underlying single-heartedness concept links them. |
| 10 | to peddle / corrupt for profit | καπηλεύω (kapēleuō) | వ్యాపారము వలె అమ్మకము చేయు | vyāpāramu vale ammakamu cheyu | High | Sincerity and Apostolic Authority; Genuine vs False Apostleship | 2:17 | Must not soften to neutral “sell”; names mercenary corruption of God’s word for profit, direct opposite of సincerity. |
| 11 | anoint | χρίω (chriō) | అభిషేకించు | abhiṣēkin̄chu | High | New Covenant; Comfort in Ministry | 1:21 | అభిషేకం is also the standard term for ritual anointing of Hindu temple deity images (prominent at Tirupati); must be framed as God’s unique commissioning act, not a repeatable devotional ritual. |
| 12 | seal | σφραγίζω (sphragizō) | ముద్రించు | mudrin̄chu | Medium | New Covenant | 1:22 | Legal/ownership mark of divine authenticity. |
| 13 | guarantee / down payment (of the Spirit) | ἀρραβών (arrabōn) | హామీ | hāmī | High | New Covenant; Assurance of Salvation (baseline) | 1:22; 5:5 | Must convey a certain, already-begun future inheritance, not a magical token or partial/uncertain pledge. |
| 14 | comfort / consolation | παράκλησις / παρακαλέω (paraklēsis / parakaleō) | ఆదరణ / ఆదరించు | ādaraṇa / ādarin̄chu | High | Suffering and Comfort in Ministry | 1:3-7; 7:4,6,7,13; 13:11 | Central term of this doctrine; must convey God’s active, personal comforting presence, not passive resignation or generic reassurance. Context-sensitive against baseline’s exhort/వినతి entry — apply the same disambiguation discipline. |
| 15 | affliction / tribulation | θλῖψις (thlipsis) | శ్రమ | śrama | Medium | Suffering and Comfort in Ministry | 1:4,8; 2:4; 4:17; 6:4; 7:4; 8:2,13 | Standard Telugu Bible term for circumstantial hardship/persecution. |
| 16 | jars/vessels of clay | ὀστράκινα σκεύη (ostrakina skeuē) | మంటిపాత్రలు | maṭṭipātralu | Medium | Power in Weakness; Genuine vs False Apostleship | 4:7 | Load-bearing metaphor: God’s power displayed through deliberately fragile human ministers. |
| 17 | inner man / outer man | ἔσω ἄνθρωπος / ἔξω ἄνθρωπος (esō/exō anthrōpos) | అంతరంగ మనుష్యుడు / బాహ్య మనుష్యుడు | antaraṅga manuṣyuḍu / bāhya manuṣyuḍu | High | Suffering and Comfort in Ministry | 4:16 | Must not be read through Vedantic body–ātman dualism (impersonal inner self identical with Brahman); Pauline personal, unified anthropology of ongoing Spirit-wrought renewal. |
| 18 | judgment seat (of Christ) | βῆμα (bēma) | న్యాయపీఠము | nyāyapīṭhamu | High | Suffering and Comfort in Ministry; Genuine vs False Apostleship | 5:10 | Distinguish from final judgment of unbelievers and from karma-style cosmic accounting; this is Christ’s evaluation of believers’ stewardship. |
| 19 | letter (of the law) | γράμμα (gramma) | అక్షరము | akṡaramu | Critical | The New Covenant versus the Old | 3:6 | Names the law’s condemning function apart from the Spirit; must not devalue Scripture generally. |
| 20 | old covenant | παλαιὰ διαθήκη (palaia diathēkē) | పాత నిబంధన | pāta nibandhana | Critical | The New Covenant versus the Old | 3:14 | Reuses baseline నిబంధన exactly; the Old/New contrast is this doctrine’s anchor pairing and must not be softened into a mere “updated version.” |
| 21 | new covenant | καινὴ διαθήκη (kainē diathēkē) | నూతన నిబంధన | nūtana nibandhana | Critical | The New Covenant versus the Old | 3:6 | Reuses baseline నిబంధన exactly. |
| 22 | transformed / transfigured | μεταμορφόω (metamorphoō) | రూపాంతరము పొందు | rūpāntaramu pondu | Medium | The New Covenant versus the Old | 3:18 | Ongoing, Spirit-wrought moral transformation into Christlikeness; keep distinct from శరీరధారణ (baseline incarnation term). |
| 23 | image / likeness | εἰκών (eikōn) | ప్రతిరూపము / పోలిక | pratirūpamu / pōlika | High | The New Covenant versus the Old | 3:18 | Must not be read as ontological merger with the divine (Advaitic monism); this is relational Christlikeness of a creature, not identity-absorption. |
| 24 | freedom / liberty | ἐλευθερία (eleutheria) | స్వాతంత్ర్యం | svātantryam | Medium–High | The New Covenant versus the Old | 3:17 | Must not drift toward మోక్షం/ముక్తి-adjacent “liberation from the cycle of existence” register (cf. baseline’s Critical salvation-term prohibition); this is freedom from the old covenant’s veiling/condemning power. |
| 25 | temple of the living God | ναὸς θεοῦ ζῶντος (naos theou zōntos) | జీవముగల దేవుని ఆలయము | jīvamugala Dēvuni ālayamu | High | Genuine vs False Apostleship (separation/holiness) | 6:16 | ఆలయము is also the standard word for a Hindu temple (cf. Tirupati references in the baseline Language Package); must be taught as God’s indwelling presence in his people, not analogized to a consecrated image-shrine. |
| 26 | unequally yoked | ἑτεροζυγέω (heterozygeō) | అవిశ్వాసులతో జతగూడకుడి | aviśvāsulatō jatagūḍakuḍi | High | Genuine vs False Apostleship (separation) | 6:14 | Established Telugu Bible phrase; must be taught as spiritual allegiance to Christ, never repurposed as caste- or ethnicity-based exclusion — a live pastoral sensitivity given this region’s Christian communities’ own history of resisting caste-based exclusion. |
| 27 | the Almighty | παντοκράτωρ (pantokratōr) | సర్వశక్తిమంతుడు | sarvaśaktimantuḍu | High | (Divine title; background to several doctrines) | 6:18 | Fixed, long-established compound TITLE for God, distinct from the baseline’s శక్తి-avoidance rule targeting the descriptive phrase “power of God” (δύναμις θεοῦ); flag for theologian confirmation that this title is exempt from that specific substitution rule. |
| 28 | false apostle(s) | ψευδαπόστολος (pseudapostolos) | కపట అపొస్తలులు | kapaṭa apostalulu | High | Genuine vs False Apostleship | 11:13 | Built on baseline అపొస్తలుడు with a deceptive/counterfeit qualifier; names a counterfeit CLAIM to apostolic authority, not merely doctrinal error. |
| 29 | disguise (oneself) | μετασχηματίζω (metaschēmatizō) | వేషధారణ చేయు | vēṣadhāraṇa cheyu | High | Genuine vs False Apostleship | 11:13-15 | Shares the -ధారణ root with baseline’s శరీరధారణ (incarnation); must be explicitly distinguished — incarnation is Christ’s true, permanent assumption of real human nature; this is a false, deceptive external costume. |
| 30 | godly jealousy | ζῆλος (zēlos) | రోషము | rōṣamu | Medium | Genuine vs False Apostleship | 11:2 | Established OT-linked Telugu term for covenantal jealousy (cf. Exodus 20:5); must be read as protective covenant love, not petty envy. |
| 31 | thorn in the flesh | σκόλοψ τῇ σαρκί (skolops tē sarki) | శరీరములో ముల్లు | śarīramulō mullu | High | Power in Weakness | 12:7 | God-permitted, purposeful, ongoing affliction for humility; must not be taught as a curse, karmic consequence, or sign of spiritual failure. |
| 32 | weakness | ἀσθένεια (astheneia) | బలహీనత | balahīnata | High | Power in Weakness | 4:16 (implied); 11:29,30; 12:5,9,10; 13:4,9 | Central term; honor/shame cultural dynamics must not be allowed to soften Paul’s deliberate boasting in weakness as the very locus of Christ’s power. |
| 33 | approved / genuine (tested) | δόκιμος (dokimos) | యోగ్యుడు | yōgyuḍu | High | Genuine vs False Apostleship | 10:18; 13:7 | Anchors the doctrine’s central antonym pair together with #34 below; consistency required across chs. 10 and 13. |
| 34 | disqualified / failing the test | ἀδόκιμος (adokimos) | అయోగ్యులు | ayōgyulu | High | Genuine vs False Apostleship | 13:5,6,7 | Deliberate antonym of యోగ్యుడు (#33); must be held consistent across chs. 10-13. |
| 35 | love (Christ’s self-giving love) | ἀγάπη (agapē) | ప్రేమ | prēma | High | Reconciliation with God; underlies all doctrines | 5:14; 13:11,13,14 | Must be distinguished from generic romantic affection and from regional prema-bhakti devotional love-mysticism (Krishna devotion); this is Christ’s historically-enacted, self-sacrificial covenant love. |
| 36 | generosity / liberality | ἁπλότης (haplotēs, giving-context sense) | ఔదార్యం | audāryaṁ | High | Generosity and Grace in Giving | 8:2; 9:11,13 | Same Greek word as #9 (sincerity, ch. 1) shifted to its generosity sense; must not be conflated — a single undivided heart is the theological link between the two senses, but the Telugu renderings differ contextually. |
| 37 | equality / fairness | ἰσότης (isotēs) | సమానత్వం | samānatvaṁ | Medium | Generosity and Grace in Giving | 8:13,14 | Positive resonance with this Christian community’s historical caste-equality experience should be taught as a strength (cf. baseline universal_scope_of_gospel note), not merely flagged as risk. |
| 38 | sow / reap | σπείρω / θερίζω (speirō / therizō) | విత్తు / కోయు | vittu / kōyu | Medium | Generosity and Grace in Giving | 9:6 | Close Telugu proverb overlap with karma-adjacent folk speech; must be taught as God’s gracious multiplication of generosity, not mechanical retribution. |
| 39 | (God’s) indescribable gift | δωρεά (dōrea) | కృపావరము / దానము | kṛpāvaramu / dānamu | Medium–High | Generosity and Grace in Giving | 9:15 | Echoes baseline caution that వరము alone reads as a generic deity’s boon (cf. spiritual_gifts entry); prefer a qualified compound. |
| 40 | sow/reap of righteousness (fruit) | δικαιοσύνη (fruit-of, giving context) | నీతి ఫలములు | nīti phalamulu | Medium | Generosity and Grace in Giving | 9:10 | Reuses baseline నీతి exactly; generosity as visible fruit of right standing before God. |
| 41 | strongholds / demolishing | ὀχύρωμα / καθαίρεσις (ochyrōma / kathairesis) | కోటలు / పడగొట్టు | kōṭalu / paḍagoṭṭu | Medium | Genuine vs False Apostleship | 10:4,8; 13:10 | Ideological/argumentative strongholds, not literal warfare or occult “binding and loosing” practice. |
| 42 | signs and wonders (and mighty works) | σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα καὶ δυνάμεις (sēmeia kai terata kai dynameis) | సూచనలు మరియు మహత్కార్యములు | sūcanalu mariyu mahatkāryamulu | Medium | Genuine vs False Apostleship | 12:12 | Authenticating marks of a genuine, divinely-sent ministry, not occult power-displays; δυνάμεις here follows the same సామర్థ్యం-family caution as power_of_god. |
| 43 | serpent (the deceiver) | ὄφις (ophis) | సర్పము | sarpamu | Medium | Genuine vs False Apostleship | 11:3 | Direct Genesis allusion; background note on regional serpent-veneration folk practice (Nagula Chavithi) is cultural color only, not a translation-risk collision here. |
| 44 | Trinitarian benediction (grace/love/fellowship) | χάρις…ἀγάπη…κοινωνία (charis…agapē…koinōnia) | ప్రభువైన యేసు క్రీస్తు కృప, దేవుని ప్రేమ, పరిశుద్ధాత్మ సహవాసం | — | Critical | (Closing formula; touches Grace, Reconciliation, New Covenant doctrines) | 13:14 | Extremely high-use liturgical verse; must be rendered identically every time cited, on the same principle as baseline’s Romans 1:16-17 / 8:28 / 10:9-10 consistency rules. Combines baseline కృప, పరేమ (#35), and సహవాసం (baseline) with the full Trinitarian formula. |
| 45 | holy kiss (greeting) | φίλημα ἅγιον (philēma hagion) | పరిశుద్ధమైన ముద్దుతో వందనము | pariśuddhamaina muddutō vandanamu | Low–Medium | (Cultural-historical greeting form) | 13:12 | Handle as a first-century cultural greeting custom (teaching-note candidate); reuses baseline పరిశుద్ధ exactly. |

Rejected alternatives: మోక్షం, ముక్తి
Original: σωτηρία

Rejected alternatives: పునర్జన్మ
Original: ἀνάστασις

Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: స్వామి

Transliteration: śarīradhāraṇa
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: అవతారం
Original: ὁ λόγος σὰρξ ἐγένετο
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: NEVER అవతారం. Concept undergirds 8:9’s kenotic ‘became poor’ language and stands as the deliberate theological opposite of 11:13-15’s false ‘disguise’ (వేషధారణ చేయు), which shares only the surface -ధారణ root but the opposite meaning. Reused exactly unchanged.
Jesus
Approved rendering: యేసు
Transliteration: Yēsu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς / יֵשׁוּעַ
Category: Christology

Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: స్వార్జిత నీతి
Original: ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Conceptual anchor for 5:19,21’s non-imputation and ‘righteousness of God’ language; appears here in both its negative mirror form (non-imputation of trespasses) and positive form (believers ‘becoming’ God’s righteousness). Reused exactly unchanged.
New Creation
Approved rendering: నూతన సృష్టి
Transliteration: nūtana sṛṣṭi
Doctrine: New Creation in Christ
Rejected alternatives: న్యూ క్రియేషన్ (foreign-sounding borrowing)
Original: καινὴ κτίσις
Category: New Creation
5:17. సృష్టి carries live Puranic association with the cyclical creation-preservation-dissolution cosmology attached to Brahma, repeated across cosmic ages. Must be taught as a definitive, non-repeating, Christ-wrought transformation of identity, never one more turn of a cyclical cosmic creation. Mandatory teaching-note support at every occurrence.
Reconciliation
Approved rendering: సమాధానపరచు / సమాధానము కలుగజేయుట
Transliteration: samādhānaparachu / samādhānamu kaluṡajēyuṭa
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Rejected alternatives: ఒప్పందం-style mutual settlement framing
Original: καταλλαγή / καταλλάσσω
Category: Reconciliation
5:18,19,20. Matches the established Telugu Bible (O.V.) rendering. Distinct from శాంతి (peace, the resulting state); this is the restoring ACT, with God as sole initiating agent, never a bilateral negotiation or karma-style cosmic rebalancing. The imperative ‘be reconciled’ (5:20) must preserve the passive voice — reconciliation is received, not self-produced.
Non Imputation
Approved rendering: ఆపాదించకుండుట
Transliteration: āpādin̄chakuṇḍuṭa
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Rejected alternatives: generic క్షమించు (‘forgive’) gloss
Original: λογίζομαι (μὴ λογιζόμενος)
Category: Reconciliation
5:19 (μὴ λογιζόμενος). Must echo baseline’s ఆపాదింపబడిన నీతి root exactly; the forensic mirror-image of imputed righteousness. Must not collapse into a generic ‘forgive’ gloss that loses the accounting sense.
Letter Of Law
Approved rendering: అక్షరము
Transliteration: akṣaramu
Doctrine: The New Covenant versus the Old
Original: γράμμα
Category: New Covenant
3:6 (‘the letter kills’). Must not be read as devaluing Scripture generally; specifically names the external, condemning function of the law-code apart from the Spirit’s life-giving work.
Old Covenant
Approved rendering: పాత నిబంధన
Transliteration: pāta nibandhana
Doctrine: The New Covenant versus the Old
Original: παλαιὰ διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
3:14. Reuses baseline నిబంధన exactly. The Old/New contrast is this doctrine’s anchor pairing and must not be softened into a mere ‘updated version’ of the same covenant.
New Covenant
Approved rendering: నూతన నిబంధన
Transliteration: nūtana nibandhana
Doctrine: The New Covenant versus the Old
Original: καινὴ διαθήκη
Category: Covenant

Category: God
13:14. Extremely high-use liturgical/benedictory verse combining baseline కృప, ప్రేమ (agape_love), and సహవాసం (baseline fellowship) with the full Trinitarian formula. Must be rendered identically every time cited across all curriculum materials, on the same principle as baseline’s Romans 1:16-17 / 8:28 / 10:9-10 consistency rules.
Substitutionary Death
Approved rendering: (ఒకనికొరకు) మృతిపొందు
Transliteration: (okanikoraku) mṛtipondu
Doctrine: Substitutionary Atonement
Rejected alternatives: a merely exemplary/sympathetic death reading
Original: εἷς ὑπὲρ πάντων ἀπέθανεν
Category: Reconciliation
5:14. Foundational to Reconciliation and Justification; connects directly to baseline’s Critical imputed_righteousness doctrine. Christ’s substitutionary/representative death on behalf of all must be preserved, not flattened into a merely exemplary death.
High Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: కృప
Transliteration: kṛpa
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: పుణ్యం, కర్మఫలం
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In 2 Corinthians extends into the register of generous giving (8:1,6,7,9,19; 9:8,14) and Christ’s sufficient grace in weakness (12:9); the unmerited, non-transactional sense must be preserved across every use. Reused exactly unchanged.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: నీతి
Transliteration: nīti
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ధర్మం
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation

Approved rendering: పాపం
Transliteration: pāpam
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: అధర్మం
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Central to 5:21’s double statement of Christ’s sinlessness and representative sin-bearing, and to 11:7. Distinguish from the narrower అపరాధము (trespass). Reused exactly unchanged.
Glory
Approved rendering: మహిమ
Transliteration: mahima
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: తేజస్సు
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Central to ch. 3 (Moses’ fading glory vs. the new covenant’s unfading glory) and 4:4,6,15,17. Reused exactly unchanged.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: దేవుని సామర్థ్యం
Transliteration: Dēvuni Sāmarthyam
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: శక్తి
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Locked, never శక్తి. 2 Corinthians extends this to Christ’s power specifically ‘resting upon’ Paul in weakness (12:9) — the forbidden-substitution rule applies without exception. Reused exactly unchanged.
Covenant
Approved rendering: నిబంధన
Transliteration: nibandhana
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: ఒప్పందం
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. 2 Corinthians 3 is the book’s central covenant chapter, explicitly naming and contrasting the old and new covenants (3:6,14). Reused exactly unchanged.
Election
Approved rendering: దేవుని ఏర్పాటు
Transliteration: Dēvuni Ērpāṭu
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: విధి, కర్మ

Transliteration: Dēvuni Paripālana
Doctrine: Providence

Approved rendering: రాయబారి / రాయబారులము
Transliteration: rāyabāri / rāyabārulamu
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Rejected alternatives: a merely political/secular diplomatic term
Original: πρεσβεύω
Category: Apostleship
5:20. Established Telugu O.V. rendering; must convey divine commissioning through Christ, not a merely secular diplomatic role.
Boasting
Approved rendering: అతిశయము / అతిశయపడు
Transliteration: atiśayamu / atiśayapaḍu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: καύχημα / καύχησις / καυχάομαι
Category: Apostleship
5:12; 7:4,14; 8:24; 9:2,3; 10:8-17; 11:10-30; 12:1-9. Wide range spanning sinful self-glorying to legitimate confidence in God’s work; matches Romans 3:27’s established Telugu term. Each occurrence must be individually disambiguated by context.
Sincerity
Approved rendering: నిష్కపటత్వం
Transliteration: niṣkapaṭatvam
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Original: εἰλικρίνεια / ἁπλότης
Category: Apostleship
1:12; 2:17; 4:2. Established Telugu O.V. term. NOTE: the same Greek word (ἁπλότης) shifts sense in chs. 8-9 toward ‘generosity’ (see generosity_liberality entry) — the two senses must be tracked and rendered separately though a single undivided heart links them theologically.
Peddle For Profit
Approved rendering: వ్యాపారము వలె అమ్మకము చేయు
Transliteration: vyāpāramu vale ammakamu cheyu
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Rejected alternatives: neutral అమ్ము (‘sell’)
Original: καπηλεύω
Category: Apostleship
2:17. Must not soften to a neutral ‘sell’; names mercenary corruption of God’s word for profit, the direct opposite of apostolic sincerity.
Anoint
Approved rendering: అభిషేకించు
Transliteration: abhiṣēkin̄chu
Doctrine: Assurance through the Spirit’s Guarantee
Original: χρίω
Category: New Covenant
1:21. అభిషేకం is also the standard term for ceremonial ritual anointing of Hindu temple deity images, prominent at Tirupati and other Andhra Pradesh pilgrimage sites. Must be framed as God’s unique, non-repeatable commissioning act toward a person, never a repeatable devotional ritual toward an image.
Guarantee Arrabon
Approved rendering: హామీ
Transliteration: hāmī
Doctrine: Assurance through the Spirit’s Guarantee
Rejected alternatives: a Greek-derived coinage (avoided as foreign-sounding)
Original: ἀρραβών
Category: New Covenant
1:22; 5:5. Must convey an already-begun, certain future inheritance, not a magical token, omen, or partial/uncertain pledge. Fence lightly from purely commercial earnest-money register.
Comfort
Approved rendering: ఆదరణ / ఆదరించు
Transliteration: ādaraṇa / ādarin̄chu
Doctrine: Suffering and Comfort in Ministry
Rejected alternatives: generic condolence-only reading
Original: παράκλησις / παρακαλέω
Category: Ministry
1:3-7; 7:4,6,7,13; 13:11. Central term of this doctrine; must convey God’s active, personal comforting presence entering into affliction, not passive resignation, generic reassurance, or mere funeral-consolation vocabulary. Context-sensitive against the same Greek verb’s ‘entreaty’ sense (5:20).
Inner Outer Man
Approved rendering: అంతరంగ మనుష్యుడు / బాహ్య మనుష్యుడు
Transliteration: antaraṅga manuṣyuḍu / bāhya manuṣyuḍu
Doctrine: Suffering and Comfort in Ministry
Original: ἔσω ἄνθρωπος / ἔξω ἄνθρωπος
Category: Ministry
4:16. Must not be read through a Vedantic body-ātman dualism in which an impersonal inner self is ultimately identical with Brahman; this is Pauline anthropology of ongoing, personal renewal by the Spirit, within one unified personal identity.
Judgment Seat
Approved rendering: న్యాయపీఠము
Transliteration: nyāyapīṭhamu
Doctrine: Resurrection Hope
Original: βῆμα (τοῦ Χριστοῦ)
Category: Eschatology
5:10. Must be distinguished from both a secular court tribunal and a karma-style cosmic accounting of deeds; this is Christ’s own personal evaluation of those already reconciled to him, not a salvation-determining judgment.
Image Likeness
Approved rendering: ప్రతిరూపము / పోలిక
Transliteration: pratirūpamu / pōlika
Doctrine: Glory and Transformation
Original: εἰκών
Category: Sanctification
3:18. Must not be read through an Advaitic monist lens in which the believer’s ‘image’ ultimately merges into ontological identity with the divine; this is relational Christlikeness of a creature, not absorption into God.
Freedom Liberty
Approved rendering: స్వాతంత్ర్యం
Transliteration: svātantryam
Doctrine: The New Covenant versus the Old
Original: ἐλευθερία
Category: New Covenant
3:17. Must not drift toward the మోక్షం/ముక్తి-adjacent register of ‘liberation from a cycle of existence,’ which baseline already forbids for salvation vocabulary; this is freedom from the old covenant’s veiling and condemning power specifically.
Temple Of Living God
Approved rendering: జీవముగల దేవుని ఆలయము
Transliteration: jīvamugala Dēvuni ālayamu
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Original: ναὸς θεοῦ ζῶντος
Category: Church
6:16. ఆలయము is also the standard Telugu word for a Hindu temple (as at Tirupati, referenced in the baseline Language Package). Must be taught as God’s indwelling presence in his people, never analogized to a consecrated image-shrine.
Unequally Yoked
Approved rendering: అవిశ్వాసులతో జతగూడకుడి
Transliteration: aviśvāsulatō jatagūḍakuḍi
Doctrine: Holiness and Separation from the World
Original: ἑτεροζυγέω
Category: Church
6:14. Established Telugu Bible phrase; must be taught as spiritual allegiance to Christ, never repurposed as a caste-based or ethnic-exclusion principle — a live pastoral sensitivity given this region’s Christian communities’ own history of resisting caste-based exclusion.
Almighty
Approved rendering: సర్వశక్తిమంతుడు
Transliteration: sarvaśaktimantuḍu
Doctrine: Holiness and Separation from the World
Original: παντοκράτωρ
Category: God
6:18. A fixed, long-established compound TITLE for God, distinct from baseline’s శక్తి-avoidance rule, which targets only the descriptive phrase ‘power of God’ (δύναμις θεοῦ). Flagged for theologian confirmation that this fixed title is exempt from that substitution rule.
False Apostles
Approved rendering: కపట అపొస్తలులు
Transliteration: kapaṭa apostalulu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: ψευδαπόστολος
Category: Apostleship
11:13. Must clearly retain the baseline అపొస్తలుడు root while marking the counterfeit/deceptive quality; names claimants to an authority they do not genuinely hold, not merely ‘wrong teachers.‘
Disguise
Approved rendering: వేషధారణ చేయు
Transliteration: vēṣadhāraṇa cheyu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: μετασχηματίζω
Category: Apostleship
11:13-15. Shares the -ధారణ root with baseline’s శరీరధారణ (incarnation) and must be explicitly distinguished at every co-occurrence: incarnation is Christ’s true, permanent assumption of real human nature; this is a false, deceptive external costume — the opposite theological direction.
Thorn In Flesh
Approved rendering: శరీరములో ముల్లు
Transliteration: śarīramulō mullu
Doctrine: Power in Weakness
Original: σκόλοψ τῇ σαρκί
Category: Power in Weakness
12:7. Must be taught as a God-permitted, purposeful, ongoing affliction for humility, not a curse, a karmic consequence, or a sign of spiritual failure.
Weakness
Approved rendering: బలహీనత
Transliteration: balahīnata
Doctrine: Power in Weakness
Rejected alternatives: a euphemistic softening toward ‘humility’ alone
Original: ἀσθένεια
Category: Power in Weakness
11:29-30; 12:5,9,10; 13:4,9. Honor/shame cultural dynamics — pressure to project strength and hide weakness/shame — must not be allowed to soften Paul’s deliberate, counter-cultural boasting in weakness itself. Render directly at every occurrence.
Approved Genuine
Approved rendering: యోగ్యుడు
Transliteration: yōgyuḍu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: δόκιμος
Category: Apostleship
10:18; 13:7. Anchors the doctrine’s central antonym pair with అయోగ్యులు (disqualified); consistency across chs. 10 and 13 required.
Disqualified
Approved rendering: అయోగ్యులు
Transliteration: ayōgyulu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: ἀδόκιμος
Category: Apostleship
13:5,6,7. Deliberate antonym of యోగ్యుడు; must be held consistent across chs. 10-13.
Agape Love
Approved rendering: ప్రేమ
Transliteration: prēma
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Rejected alternatives: ప్రేమ used in an unqualified prema-bhakti devotional-mysticism register
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Reconciliation
5:14; 13:11,13,14. Must be distinguished from generic romantic affection and from regional prema-bhakti devotional love-mysticism (Krishna devotion, widely reinforced through Telugu cinema and poetry); this is Christ’s historically-enacted, self-sacrificial covenant love, the controlling motive of apostolic ministry.
Generosity Liberality
Approved rendering: ఔదార్యం
Transliteration: audāryaṁ
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Original: ἁπλότης
Category: Giving
8:2; 9:11,13. Same Greek word (ἁπλότης) as sincerity (see sincerity entry) shifted to its generosity sense; translators must select the contextually correct Telugu word and not conflate the two, though a single undivided heart theologically links them.
According To Flesh
Approved rendering: శరీరరీతిగా
Transliteration: śarīrarītigā
Doctrine: Humanity of Christ
Original: κατὰ σάρκα
Category: Ministry
5:16 (κατὰ σάρκα). Here the sense is a fallen, worldly evaluative standard, not physical lineage; must not be flattened, nor read through an ascetic body-denial (deha-nirasana) framework common in regional renunciate traditions.
In Christ
Approved rendering: క్రీస్తులో
Transliteration: Krīstulō
Doctrine: Christian Identity in Christ
Original: ἐν Χριστῷ
Category: Salvation
5:17. Parallels baseline doctrine ‘Christian Identity in Christ’ (Romans), already flagged High risk there; anchors the new-creation declaration.
Sufficiency
Approved rendering: సామర్థ్యం / సమర్థత
Transliteration: sāmarthyaṁ / samarthata
Doctrine: Sufficiency of God
Rejected alternatives: శక్తి
Original: ἱκανός / ἱκανότης
Category: Ministry
3:5; 12:9. Applies the same baseline forbidden-substitution discipline as power_of_god — NEVER శక్తి, given Andhra Pradesh’s prominent Shakta goddess-power tradition (Kanaka Durgamma, Vijayawada). God’s sufficiency, not human self-sufficiency, is the ground of ministry competency.
Holiness Hagiosyne
Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధత
Transliteration: pariśuddhata
Doctrine: Holiness and Separation from the World
Original: ἁγιωσύνη
Category: Sanctification
7:1. Reuses baseline holy-family term exactly; holiness perfected out of reverence for God.
Christ Became Poor
Approved rendering: ధనము / దరిద్రత
Transliteration: dhanamu / daridrata
Doctrine: Incarnation and Christ’s Voluntary Poverty
Rejected alternatives: a repeatable avatar-style divine descent reading
Original: πλοῦτος / πτωχεία
Category: Christology
8:9. Touches the baseline’s Critical Incarnation doctrine; must be read as voluntary, real, historical self-giving condescension, never as a repeatable divine descent in an అవతారం pattern, which baseline’s incarnation rule forbids absolutely.
Virgin Bride Of Christ
Approved rendering: కన్యక
Transliteration: kanyaka
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: παρθένος
Category: Church
11:2. ESCALATED from Medium to High per linguistic gap analysis: కన్యక is also the name-root of Kanyaka Parameswari, a prominent regional goddess venerated especially by the Arya Vaishya community, with a major temple at Vizianagaram and a legend of a virgin’s self-immolation to preserve purity against a forced marriage. The image here is Pauline OT betrothal/bridal-purity imagery (echoing Israel as YHWH’s bride), entirely unrelated to the regional goddess-legend. Mandatory teaching note required before use in coastal Andhra teaching/preaching contexts.
Medium Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: సువార్త
Transliteration: suvārta
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: వార్త

Doctrine: Apostleship

Transliteration: śānti
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: మనశ్శాంతి
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Appears in the closing greeting 13:11. Distinct from reconciliation (సమాధానపరచు) — శాంతి is the resulting relational state, not the restoring act. Reused exactly unchanged.
Law
Approved rendering: ధర్మశాస్త్రము
Transliteration: dharmaśāstramu
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Underlies the Old Covenant contrast of 3:6-15, referenced there as Moses’ ministry/covenant rather than by the bare word ‘law.’ Reused exactly unchanged.

Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: విదేశీయులు
Original: ἔθνη

Trespass
Approved rendering: అపరాధము
Transliteration: aparādhamu

Jars Of Clay
Approved rendering: మంటిపాత్రలు
Transliteration: maṭṭipātralu
Doctrine: Power in Weakness
Original: ὀστράκινα σκεύη
Category: Power in Weakness
4:7. Load-bearing metaphor for both Power-in-Weakness and Genuine-vs-False-Apostleship: God’s power displayed through deliberately fragile human ministers.
Transformed
Approved rendering: రూపాంతరము పొందు
Transliteration: rūpāntaramu pondu
Doctrine: Glory and Transformation
Original: μεταμορφόω
Category: Sanctification
3:18. Must convey ongoing, Spirit-wrought transformation into Christlikeness, not a mystical or repeatable shape-change; keep distinct from శరీరధారణ (baseline incarnation term), Christ’s own unique assumption of flesh.
Godly Jealousy
Approved rendering: రోషము
Transliteration: rōṣamu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: ζῆλος
Category: Apostleship
11:2. Must be read as protective covenant love, not petty envy; anchor explicitly to the OT covenantal-jealousy pattern (Exodus 20:5) since modern colloquial/cinematic usage trends toward petty romantic jealousy.
Equality Fairness
Approved rendering: సమానత్వం
Transliteration: samānatvaṁ
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Original: ἰσότης
Category: Giving
8:13,14. Positive resonance with this Christian community’s own historical caste-equality experience should be taught as a strength, not merely flagged as a collision risk.
Sow Reap
Approved rendering: విత్తు / కోయు
Transliteration: vittu / kōyu
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Original: σπείρω / θερίζω
Category: Giving
9:6. Close overlap with the Telugu proverb ‘విత్తినట్లే కోతకోస్తారు,’ which in folk usage carries a karma-adjacent, mechanical retribution sense. Must be taught as God’s gracious multiplication of generosity, not impersonal retribution.
Indescribable Gift
Approved rendering: కృపావరము / దానము
Transliteration: kṛpāvaramu / dānamu
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Rejected alternatives: bare దానము standing alone in doctrinally load-bearing contexts
Original: δωρεά
Category: Giving
9:15. Echoes baseline’s caution that వరము alone reads as a generic deity’s boon; దానము alone risks the dharmic merit-earning almsgiving (దానధర్మం) register. Prefer the qualified compound కృపావరము wherever the text names God’s own gift.
Fruit Of Righteousness
Approved rendering: నీతి ఫలములు
Transliteration: nīti phalamulu
Doctrine: Generosity and Grace in Giving
Original: δικαιοσύνη (fruit-of, giving context)

Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: ὀχύρωμα / καθαίρεσις
Category: Apostleship
10:4,8; 13:10. Must be read as ideological/argumentative — reasonings raised against the knowledge of God — not literal warfare, occult ‘binding and loosing’ practice, or physical structures.
Signs And Wonders
Approved rendering: సూచనలు మరియు మహత్కార్యములు
Transliteration: sūcanalu mariyu mahatkāryamulu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: సూచనలు standing alone
Original: σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα καὶ δυνάμεις
Category: Apostleship
12:12. Must be framed as authenticating marks of a genuine, divinely-sent ministry, not occult power-displays; always pair సూచనలు with మహత్కార్యములు as a fixed unit to avoid an astrological/occult-omen reading.
Serpent Deceiver
Approved rendering: సర్పము
Transliteration: sarpamu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: ὄφις
Category: Apostleship
11:3. Direct Genesis allusion; regional serpent-veneration folk practice (e.g. Nagula Chavithi) is cultural background color only, not a translation-risk collision here since the OT-echo context is unambiguous.
World Kosmos
Approved rendering: లోకము
Transliteration: lōkamu
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Original: κόσμος
Category: Reconciliation
5:19. Ties to baseline’s ‘Universal Scope of the Gospel’ doctrine; the scope of reconciliation is humanity as a whole, without qualification.

Transliteration: siphārasu chesukonu
Doctrine: Genuine versus False Apostleship
Original: συνίστημι

Transliteration: matibhrāntulamu / svasthachittulamu
Doctrine: Sincerity and Apostolic Authority
Original: ἐξίστημι / σωφρονέω
Category: Apostleship
5:13. Established Telugu Bible idioms; మతిభ్రాంతులము must not read as literal insanity; స్వస్థచిత్తులము conveys Paul’s measured, reasoned engagement with the Corinthians directly.
Love Compels
Approved rendering: బలవంతము చేయు
Transliteration: balavantamu cheyu
Doctrine: Reconciliation with God
Original: συνέχω
Category: Reconciliation
5:14 (συνέχω). Established Telugu O.V. idiom for compelling force; Christ’s love, not human ambition, controls Paul’s ministry.
