Core Glossary
Core Glossary: 2 Thessalonians (English–Greek–Telugu)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning all three chapters of 2 Thessalonians. Terms marked REUSE carry forward the exact rendering already locked in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json — these are non-negotiable per the pipeline’s hard rules. Terms marked NEW are proposed for this curriculum and are candidates for formal promotion into an updated translation memory in a later Phase 1 step; they are not yet binding but should be treated as the working standard for this curriculum going forward.

B. New Terms Proposed for the 2 Thessalonians Curriculum
B.1 — Terms tied to core doctrine: The Day of the Lord
| English | Greek | Transliteration | Telugu (proposed) | Risk | Doctrine notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day of the Lord | ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου | hēmera tou kyriou | ప్రభువు దినము | Critical | Organizing doctrinal title of the core passage; must never be softened or merged with “Lord’s Day” (worship day) vocabulary. |
| Coming / Parousia | παρουσία | parousia | రాకడ | Critical | Established Telugu evangelical eschatological term; keep distinct from ఆగమనం (rejected, too generic/Sanskritic) and from resurrection/incarnation vocabulary. |
| Appearing / Epiphany | ἐπιφάνεια | epiphaneia | ప్రత్యక్షత | High | Paired with రాకడ at 2:8 as an emphatic doublet; also used for ἀποκάλυψις (1:7) family. |
| Revelation (of the Lord) | ἀποκάλυψις | apokalypsis | ప్రత్యక్షమైనప్పుడు | High | Third synonym for the Second Coming event; harmonize with ప్రత్యక్షత above. |
| Gathering together | ἐπισυναγωγή | episynagōgē | సమకూర్చబడుట | High | Distinct from సంఘము (church, an existing gathered body); this is the future eschatological gathering. |
| ”Has come” (perfect tense) | ἐνέστηκεν | enestēken | వచ్చేసింది / ఇప్పటికే వచ్చింది | High | Must preserve the perfect-tense force (“has arrived,” not “is near”); central to Paul’s correction of a false report. |
B.2 — Terms tied to core doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
| English | Greek | Transliteration | Telugu (proposed) | Risk | Doctrine notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lawlessness | ἀνομία | anomia | అధర్మం | High | Rejected as an alternative for “sin” in the baseline, freeing it for this distinct use; watch for dharma/adharma cosmic-order resonance. |
| Man of Lawlessness | ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας | ho anthrōpos tēs anomias | అధర్మ పురుషుడు | Critical | Core doctrine title; textual variant tradition (TR) reads “man of sin,” పాప పురుషుడు — flag for cross-edition awareness. |
| The Lawless One | ὁ ἄνομος | ho anomos | ఆ అధర్ముడు | Critical | Short title form, same referent as above; must render with identical root. |
| Son of Destruction | ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας | ho huios tēs apōleias | నాశన పుత్రుడు | Critical | Hebraic idiom; preserve as a title, not a flattened description. |
| Apostasy / Rebellion | ἀποστασία | apostasia | విశ్వాస త్యజనం | Critical | Rejected: తిరుగుబాటు (too politically coded); మతమార్పిడి (wrong-direction meaning). |
| The Opposer / Adversary | ὁ ἀντικείμενος | ho antikeimenos | విరోధి | High | Conceptually parallel to (not identical Greek word as) “antichrist”; harmonize if that term is introduced elsewhere. |
| Object of worship | σέβασμα | sebasma | ఆరాధనాపాత్రము | Medium-High | Built on ఆరాధన (Christian worship vocabulary), avoiding పూజ (Hindu ritual-offering register). |
| Temple (of God) | ναός | naos | దేవుని ఆలయం | Critical | Doctrinally correct and unavoidable rendering; requires active footnoting against conflation with regional Hindu temple resonance (e.g., Tirupati). |
| Self-deification claim | ἀποδεικνύντα ἑαυτὸν ὅτι ἔστιν θεός | apodeiknynta heauton hoti estin theos | తనను తాను దేవుడని ప్రకటించుకొనుట | High | Must be phrased so as never to echo the true-deity-of-Christ vocabulary (దేవుని కుమారుడు); a false claim contrasted with a true one. |
| Restrainer (impersonal) | τὸ κατέχον | to katechon | అడ్డగించునది | High | Preserve the Greek’s deliberate ambiguity; do not resolve the identity debate through translation. |
| Restrainer (personal) | ὁ κατέχων | ho katechōn | అడ్డగించువాడు | High | See above; masculine counterpart. |
| Mystery of Lawlessness | τὸ μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας | to mystērion tēs anomias | అధర్మ రహస్యం | High | Present, covert operation of lawlessness prior to its full unveiling. |
| ”Is at work” (energeia root) | ἐνεργεῖται / ἐνέργεια | energeitai / energeia | పనిచేస్తోంది / కార్యము | High | Recurring root across 2:7, 9, 11 (lawlessness, Satan, God’s judicial delusion) — hold one consistent Telugu root across all three occurrences to preserve Paul’s literary thread. |
| Satan | Σατανᾶς | Satanas | సాతాను | Medium | Standard transliteration; keep distinct from generic folk-religion “evil spirit” vocabulary (దయ్యం/భూతం). |
| Power (of the lawless one, not God) | δύναμις | dynamis | బలం | High | Deliberately distinguished from దేవుని సామర్థ్యం (God’s power) and from the forbidden శక్తి; three-way distinction must be taught explicitly. |
| Signs and wonders (false) | σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ψεύδους | sēmeia kai terata pseudous | అబద్ధపు సూచక క్రియలు, ఆశ్చర్యకార్యములు | Medium-High | Standard NT phrase qualified with “of falsehood” to mark deceptive purpose without implying all signs/wonders are inherently false. |
| Deception (v.10 act) | ἀπάτη | apatē | వంచన | Medium-High | Keep lexically distinct from πλάνη (v.11) despite English overlap. |
| Unrighteousness | ἀδικία | adikia | అన్యాయం | Medium-High | Direct antonym of established నీతి; distinct from పాపం (sin) and అధర్మం (lawlessness) — three-way distinction required. |
| Delusion / Error (v.11 state) | πλάνη | planē | మోసం | Critical | Rejected: భ్రమ — high risk of collision with Advaita Vedantic māyā/illusion doctrine; this must never be read as commentary on the illusory nature of reality. |
| Belief in the lie | πιστεῦσαι τῷ ψεύδει | pisteusai tō pseudei | ఆ అబద్ధమును విశ్వసించుట | High | Uses established విశ్వాసం root negatively — a teaching point that faith’s object determines its value; misplaced faith is still real, active belief. |
B.3 — Terms tied to core doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
| English | Greek | Transliteration | Telugu (proposed) | Risk | Doctrine notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Righteous Judgment | δίκαιος κρίσις | dikaia krisis | నీతియైన తీర్పు | Critical | Built on established నీతి root to link God’s righteous character directly to his judgment. |
| Judged / Condemned | κρίνω / κριθῶσιν | krinō / krithōsin | తీర్పు తీర్చబడుటకు | Critical | Forensic, purposive force must be retained, not softened to vague “consequence.” |
| Vengeance / Retribution | ἐκδίκησις | ekdikēsis | ప్రతిదండన | High | Judicial, righteous retribution — not personal vindictiveness (పగ, explicitly rejected). |
| Eternal Destruction | ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος | olethros aiōnios | నిత్య నాశనం | Critical | Shares నాశనం root with 2:3’s ἀπώλεια (different Greek lexeme, same Telugu family, no doctrinal loss). |
| Perishing (ongoing state) | ἀπολλύμενοι | apollymenoi | నశించుచున్నవారు | High | Present, ongoing trajectory, not merely a future event. |
| Took pleasure in unrighteousness | εὐδοκήσαντες τῇ ἀδικίᾳ | eudokēsantes tē adikia | అన్యాయమునందు సంతోషించినవారు | Medium-High | Positive, willing moral approval of evil — reinforces the justice of condemnation. |
B.4 — Terms tied to core doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
| English | Greek | Transliteration | Telugu (proposed) | Risk | Doctrine notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Endurance / Perseverance | ὑπομονή | hypomonē | ఓర్పు | High | Rejected: సహనం — modern Telugu associates this with interfaith “religious tolerance” (మతసహనం), a serious category confusion for a persecution-doctrine term. |
| Persecutions | διωγμοί | diōgmoi | హింస | Medium | Standard, well-established term; note but do not over-flag the incidental “ahimsa” discourse association. |
| Afflictions / Tribulations | θλίψεις | thlipseis | శ్రమ | Medium | Standard NT term for hardship/pressure. |
| Love | ἀγάπη | agapē | ప్రేమ | Medium | Standard, low-ambiguity Christian term; distinguish from romantic/familial usage by context. |
| Work of faith | ἔργον πίστεως | ergon pisteōs | విశ్వాసము వలన కలిగిన క్రియ | High | Must mark clear causal direction (faith → deed) to avoid reading as merit-earning “works” against grace; escalate to theologian review wherever ἔργον and πίστις co-occur. |
| Do not grow weary | μὴ ἐκκακήσητε | mē ekkakēsēte | నిరుత్సాహపడకండి | Low-Medium | Extends perseverance doctrine from suffering (ch.1) to ordinary faithful conduct (ch.3). |
| Grow weary / lose heart | ἐκκακέω | ekkakeō | నిరుత్సాహపడు | Low-Medium | See above. |
B.5 — Terms tied to core doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
| English | Greek | Transliteration | Telugu (proposed) | Risk | Doctrine notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stand firm | στήκω | stēkō | స్థిరముగా నిలుచు | High | Direct pastoral response to eschatological panic (2:2) and deception (2:3). |
| Hold fast | κρατέω | krateō | గట్టిగా పట్టుకొను | High | Paired verb with στήκω at 2:15. |
| Tradition(s) | παράδοσις | paradosis | సంప్రదాయం (never unqualified) | Critical — highest-caution term in this curriculum | Collides directly with the Hindu technical term for a guru-lineage teaching succession (sampradaya). Mandatory mitigation: always anchor with an explicit qualifying genitive identifying apostolic source/authority (e.g., “అపొస్తలుల సంప్రదాయములు,” “మేము మీకు బోధించిన సంప్రదాయములు”). Never permit a bare, unqualified occurrence in any lesson text. Occurs at 2:15 and 3:6; every occurrence requires human theologian review specifically checking the qualifier has not been dropped. |
| Command / Instruct | παραγγέλλω | parangellō | ఆజ్ఞాపించు | Medium | Distinct from the gentler baseline verb for “exhort” (ప్రోత్సహించడం). |
| Obey | ὑπακούω | hypakouō | (established విధేయత root) | High | Reuses baseline’s obedience-of-faith family; here applied to obeying apostolic instruction specifically. |
| Imitate | μιμέομαι | mimeomai | అనుసరించు | Medium | Discipleship-modeling concept (Paul as example, 3:7, 9). |
| Example / Pattern | τύπος | typos | మాదిరి | Low | Practical-example sense here; note the distinct OT-typology sense exists elsewhere in Paul. |
| Authority / Right | ἐξουσία | exousia | అధికారం | Low-Medium | Flagged for harmonization with any existing Romans 13 rendering. |
| Comfort / Encouragement | παράκλησις | paraklēsis | ఆదరణ | Medium | Distinguished by context from baseline’s ప్రోత్సాహం (encouragement sense of the cognate verb). |
| Hope | ἐλπίς | elpis | నిరీక్షణ | High | Should have appeared in the baseline Romans list given Romans’ own heavy use of this term; flagged here for retroactive harmonization. Never ఆశ (generic wish). |
B.6 — Supporting / Minor New Terms (Low-Medium risk, listed for completeness)

C. Cross-Cutting Translation Risk Notes for This Curriculum
- The three-word cluster for “power” (దేవుని సామర్థ్యం / బలం / never శక్తి) must be taught to Phase 2 translators as a deliberate, doctrine-driven distinction, not an inconsistency.
- The three-word cluster for wrongdoing (పాపం “sin” / అధర్మం “lawlessness” / అన్యాయం “unrighteousness”) requires a dedicated translator briefing note distinguishing all three, since English source text sometimes uses overlapping vocabulary (“wickedness,” “evil”) that could tempt collapsing them into one Telugu word.
- παράδοσις (సంప్రదాయం) is this curriculum’s single highest-risk new term given its direct terminological overlap with a named, prestigious Hindu category (guru-lineage sampradaya); it requires the same tier of institutional caution the baseline gives to అవతారం (incarnation) and మోక్షం (salvation), even though it was not present in the Romans curriculum at all.
- The Second Coming vocabulary cluster (రాకడ / ప్రత్యక్షత / ప్రత్యక్షం) must be used consistently across lessons per the established parousia/epiphaneia/apokalypsis distinctions, to preserve the letter’s own layered emphasis at 2:8.
- No chapter of 2 Thessalonians lacks new theological vocabulary — chapters 1, 2, and 3 each contribute doctrine-critical terms; full-book coverage in Phase 2 must treat all three chapters with equal rigor.
Critical Risk Terms
Lord
Approved rendering: ప్రభువు
Transliteration: prabhuvu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: స్వామి
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Structural backbone of this letter, occurring 1:1-2, 1:7-12, 2:1, 2:8, 2:13-14, 3:1-5, 3:16-18. Compound title ‘Lord of peace’ (3:16) is built directly from this locked term — see kyrios_tes_eirenes.
Jesus
Approved rendering: యేసు
Transliteration: Yēsu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs throughout.
Christ
Approved rendering: క్రీస్తు
Transliteration: Krīstu
Doctrine: Christology
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Established per the baseline’s own transliteration standards list (12_ai_translation_requirements.md) though not a standalone baseline translation_memory.json entry in the Romans package; క్రీస్తు is the shared, cross-denominational Telugu Bible transliteration and is locked identically here. Occurs throughout as part of the full title ‘Lord Jesus Christ’.
God
Approved rendering: దేవుడు
Transliteration: Dēvuḍu
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: భగవంతుడు
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs throughout, including 2:4’s self-deification claim by the man of lawlessness — never భగవంతుడు, and the false claim must be structurally fenced from Christ’s true deity (see self_deification_claim).
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధాత్మ
Transliteration: pariśuddhātma
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: పరమాత్మ, పవిత్రాత్మ
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 2:13. CRITICAL: never confuse with the unrelated ‘breath of his mouth’ (πνεῦμα τοῦ στόματος, 2:8) describing Christ’s own spoken word of judgment — see pneuma_tou_stomatos.
Father
Approved rendering: తండ్రి
Transliteration: Tandri
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: సృష్టికర్త
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 1:1-2, 2:16.
Salvation
Approved rendering: రక్షణ
Transliteration: rakshana
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: మోక్షం, ముక్తి
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. CRITICAL: never మోక్షం or ముక్తి. Occurs 2:10 (‘the love of the truth so as to be saved’), 2:13-14. Contrasted throughout this letter by the negative నాశనం/ఆపొల్లీయా family (son_of_destruction, olethros_aionios, apollymenoi).
Day Of The Lord
Approved rendering: ప్రభువు దినము
Transliteration: Prabhuvu dinamu
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL — core curriculum doctrine, organizing title of 2:1-12. Occurs 1:10 (implicit), 2:1-2, 2:3. Must be held rigorously distinct from any generic reference to a Sunday/worship day and never softened to a vague future hope. Require a demonstrative anchor (‘ఆ ప్రభువు దినము,’ ‘that Day of the Lord’) on first occurrence per lesson.
Parousia
Approved rendering: రాకడ
Transliteration: rākaḍa
Doctrine: Return of Christ / Parousia
Rejected alternatives: ఆగమనం, పరూసియా (transliteration)
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL. Occurs 2:1, 2:8, 2:9. The long-established Telugu evangelical/Pentecostal eschatological term (ప్రభువు రాకడ). Must never merge with resurrection vocabulary (పునరుత్థానం) nor read as a repeatable, cyclical divine descent — extending the baseline’s incarnation/అవతారం caution by direct analogy given Tirupati’s live avatar-descent tradition. 2:8’s true parousia and 2:9’s counterfeit parousia use the identical Telugu word; context alone must carry the contrast.
Man Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: అధర్మ పురుషుడు
Transliteration: adharma puruṣuḍu
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: పాప పురుషుడు (TR textual-variant tradition, retained only for cross-edition awareness)
Original: ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Christology
CRITICAL — core curriculum doctrine title. Occurs 2:3. This curriculum follows the modern critical text (ἀνομίας) rather than the TR’s ἁμαρτίας variant behind older Telugu editions’ ‘man of sin.’ Must render identically to its short-form synonym the_lawless_one (2:8). Names a single specific eschatological figure, never a general category of lawless people.
The Lawless One
Approved rendering: ఆ అధర్ముడు
Transliteration: ā adharmuḍu
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ ἄνομος
Category: Christology
CRITICAL. Occurs 2:8. Same referent as man_of_lawlessness (2:3); must use the identical అధర్మ root for referential consistency.
Son Of Destruction
Approved rendering: నాశన పుత్రుడు
Transliteration: nāśana putruḍu
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: నశించిపోయేవాడు (descriptive flattening, rejected)
Original: ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας
Category: Christology
CRITICAL. Occurs 2:3. Hebraic ‘son of X’ idiom (identical Greek phrase describes Judas, John 17:12); preserve as a fixed title, never flattened to a descriptive clause.
Apostasia
Approved rendering: విశ్వాస త్యజనం
Transliteration: viswāsa tyajanam
Doctrine: Apostasy and Satanic Deception
Rejected alternatives: తిరుగుబాటు, మతమార్పిడి
CRITICAL. Occurs 2:3. Built on the established విశ్వాసం root. తిరుగుబాటు rejected as too politically coded (civil uprising); మతమార్పిడి rejected as it means ‘religious conversion,’ the wrong direction of movement.
Naos Temple
Approved rendering: దేవుని ఆలయం
Transliteration: Dēvuni Ālayam
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ναός
Category: Christology
CRITICAL. Occurs 2:4. Doctrinally unavoidable, long-established Telugu Bible term for the Jerusalem Temple. Risk: ఆలయం is also the everyday Telugu word for a Hindu temple, including Tirupati’s Venkateswara/Balaji temple, one of the world’s most-visited pilgrimage sites, in Telugu-speaking territory. Mandatory footnoting required on every occurrence identifying this as the historical Jerusalem Temple or its symbolic end-time referent — never a generic devotional shrine.
Plane
Approved rendering: మోసం
Transliteration: mōsam
Doctrine: Judicial Hardening
Rejected alternatives: భ్రమ
Original: πλάνη
Category: Sin
CRITICAL. Occurs 2:11 (‘God sends them a working of delusion’). భ్రమ is FORBIDDEN in this doctrine context: it carries strong technical association with Advaita Vedantic illusion-doctrine (māyā/bhrama), which would wrongly import a monistic metaphysical claim about the illusory nature of reality, foreign to Paul’s meaning of a specific, judicially-imposed moral disorientation. Requires human theologian review confirming the judicial sequence (reject truth → given delusion → condemned) is preserved intact.
Dikaia Krisis
Approved rendering: నీతియైన తీర్పు
Transliteration: nītiyaina tīrpu
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: δικαία κρίσις
Category: Judgment
CRITICAL — core curriculum doctrine anchor (1:5). Built on the baseline’s established నీతి root so learners see the direct conceptual link between God’s righteous character and his righteous judgment, rather than an unrelated, purely punitive category.
Krithosin Judged
Approved rendering: తీర్పు తీర్చబడుటకు
Transliteration: tīrpu tīrchabaḍuṭaku
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: κριθῶσιν
Category: Judgment
CRITICAL — the doctrinal anchor verse for God’s Righteous Judgment (2:12). Uses తీర్పు, the standard Telugu Bible term for judicial/eschatological judgment. Must retain forensic, purposive force, never softened to a vague ‘consequence.‘
Olethros Aionios
Approved rendering: నిత్య నాశనం
Transliteration: nitya nāśanam
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος
Category: Judgment
CRITICAL. Occurs 1:9. Shares its నాశనం root productively with son_of_destruction’s ἀπώλεια family (2:3) — a different Greek lexeme, same Telugu family, with no doctrinal loss.
Energeia Planes
Approved rendering: దేవుడు వారికి మోసము కార్యరూపంలో పంపును
Transliteration: Dēvuḍu vāriki mōsamu kāryarūpamlō pampunu
Doctrine: Judicial Hardening
Original: πέμπει αὐτοῖς ὁ θεὸς ἐνέργειαν πλάνης
Category: Judgment
CRITICAL. Occurs 2:11 (‘God sends them a working of delusion’). Must always be taught alongside its sequence: reject truth (2:10) → given delusion (2:11) → condemned (2:12), preserved intact so this is never read as arbitrary imposition on the innocent. Requires human theologian review on every occurrence.
Paradosis
Approved rendering: సంప్రదాయం (never unqualified — always with an apostolic-source qualifier)
Transliteration: sampradāyam
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Rejected alternatives: unqualified సంప్రదాయం
Original: παράδοσις
Category: Tradition
CRITICAL — the single highest-caution term in this curriculum, on par with the baseline’s అవతారం and మోక్షం cautions. సంప్రదాయం is the precise technical Telugu term for a Hindu guru-lineage teaching succession (e.g. Sri Vaishnava Sampradaya, Madhva Sampradaya). MANDATORY MITIGATION: every occurrence (2:15, 3:6) must carry an explicit qualifying genitive naming apostolic source/authority, e.g. ‘అపొస్తలుల సంప్రదాయములు’ or ‘మేము మీకు బోధించిన సంప్రదాయములు.’ No bare occurrence is permitted anywhere in lesson text, including abbreviated slide-level restatements. Requires human theologian review on every occurrence specifically confirming the qualifier has not been dropped.
High Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: కృప
Transliteration: kṛpa
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: పుణ్యం, కర్మఫలం
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs in every chapter’s greeting/benediction (1:2, 1:12, 2:16, 3:18).
Holy
Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధ
Transliteration: pariśuddha
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: పవిత్ర, శుద్ధ
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Locked పరిశుద్ధ over పవిత్ర throughout this curriculum for cross-lesson consistency; underlies saints (1:10) and sanctification (2:13).
Sanctification
Approved rendering: పరిశుద్ధపరచడం
Transliteration: pariśuddhaparachaḍam
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: శుద్ధీకరణ
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 2:13 (sanctification of/by the Spirit) — both components already locked.
Church
Approved rendering: సంఘము
Transliteration: sanghamu
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: దేవాలయం, సభ
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 1:1, 1:4. Must be held distinct from this letter’s new term episynagoge (the future eschatological gathering, 2:1), a different concept from the present gathered congregation.
Glory
Approved rendering: మహిమ
Transliteration: mahima
Doctrine: Glorification of Believers in Christ
Rejected alternatives: తేజస్సు
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 1:9, 1:10, 1:12, 2:14. Underlies this letter’s new compounds endoxazo_glorified_in and peripoiesis (obtaining of glory, 2:14) — both must render on this same root.
Election
Approved rendering: దేవుని ఏర్పాటు
Transliteration: Dēvuni Ērpāṭu
Doctrine: Divine Election and Calling
Rejected alternatives: విధి, కర్మ
Original: αἱρέομαι (doctrine of ἐκλογή)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. 2 Thess 2:13 uses a different Greek lexeme (αἱρέομαι) than Romans’ ἐκλογή family for the identical doctrine; render with this exact, unchanged phrase so learners perceive doctrinal continuity across both letters despite the different Greek word.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: దేవుని సామర్థ్యం
Transliteration: Dēvuni Sāmarthyam
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: శక్తి
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Serves as the contrastive backdrop to this letter’s new term dynamis_lawless (2:9’s counterfeit power, rendered బలం). Never శక్తి — extended in this curriculum to forbid శక్తి at BOTH poles (God’s power and the lawless one’s power) to avoid Andhra Pradesh Shakta-goddess associative confusion in either direction.
Obedience Of Faith
Approved rendering: విశ్వాస విధేయత
Transliteration: viswāsa vidhēyata
Doctrine: Obedience of Faith
Rejected alternatives: ధార్మిక కర్తవ్యం
Original: ὑπακοή (τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ)
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 1:8 (‘those who do not obey the gospel’); same root family reused at 3:14 for obeying apostolic instruction in this letter (see hypakouo_obey) and reinforced by 1:11’s ergon_pisteos (work of faith).
Epiphaneia
Approved rendering: ప్రత్యక్షత
Transliteration: pratyakshata
Doctrine: Return of Christ / Parousia
Original: ἐπιφάνεια
Category: Eschatology
Occurs 2:8 in the emphatic doublet ‘the appearing of his coming.’ Paired with రాకడ; shares its ప్రత్యక్ష root with apokalypsis_second_coming to signal conceptual overlap. Never substitute for రాకడ or vice versa — treat as a constructed, deliberately distinct member of the Second Coming synonym triad.
Apokalypsis Second Coming
Approved rendering: ప్రత్యక్షమైనప్పుడు
Transliteration: pratyakshamainappuḍu
Doctrine: Return of Christ / Parousia
Original: ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Eschatology
Occurs 1:7 (‘at the revelation of the Lord Jesus’). Third member of the Second Coming synonym triad alongside రాకడ and ప్రత్యక్షత. Telugu lacks three organically distinct native words for this Greek triad; translators must not default to రాకడ alone for all three, which would erase Paul’s deliberate emphatic layering at 2:8.
Episynagoge
Approved rendering: సమకూర్చబడుట
Transliteration: samakūrchabaḍuṭa
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: ἐπισυναγωγή
Category: Eschatology
Occurs 2:1 (‘our being gathered together to him’). Must never be confused with సంఘము (church, the present gathered community) — this names the future eschatological ingathering event. Render as a verbal-noun construction, never as a noun sharing the సంఘము root.
Enesteken Has Come
Approved rendering: వచ్చేసింది / ఇప్పటికే వచ్చింది
Transliteration: vachchēsindi / ippaṭikē vachchindi
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: సమీపించింది
Original: ἐνέστηκεν
Category: Eschatology
Occurs 2:2. Perfect-tense force (‘has arrived,’ a completed state with present results) must be preserved; సమీపించింది (‘is near’) is FORBIDDEN in this verse as it would silently reverse Paul’s corrective argument against the false report that the Day had already come.
Anomia
Approved rendering: అధర్మం
Transliteration: adharmam
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Sin
Occurs 2:3, 2:7 (mystery of lawlessness), 2:8 (adjective ὁ ἄνομος). Explicitly rejected in the baseline as an alternative for ‘sin’ (పాపం), freeing it for this distinct doctrinal use. Caution: dharma/adharma cosmic-order resonance from regional epic literature (Mahabharata) is a live cultural framework; every occurrence must be anchored to God’s revealed moral character in context, never left as an abstract cosmic principle.
Ho Antikeimenos
Approved rendering: విరోధి
Transliteration: virōdhi
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ ἀντικείμενος
Category: Christology
Occurs 2:4. Names this figure’s fundamental posture of cosmic opposition to God; conceptually parallel to (not the same Greek word as) ‘antichrist’ (1 John 2:18) — if a future curriculum introduces that term, harmonize to related but distinguishable Telugu forms rather than collapsing both into one word.
Sebasma
Approved rendering: ఆరాధనాపాత్రము
Transliteration: ārādhanā-pātramu
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: పూజా వస్తువు
Original: σέβασμα
Category: Christology
Occurs 2:4. Built on ఆరాధన, the standard Christian Telugu worship term, deliberately avoiding పూజ (Hindu ritual-offering vocabulary) to keep the term theologically general rather than ritually specific.
Self Deification Claim
Approved rendering: తనను తాను దేవుడని ప్రకటించుకొనుట
Transliteration: tananu tānu dēvuḍani prakaṭin̄chukonuṭa
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀποδεικνύντα ἑαυτὸν ὅτι ἔστιν θεός
Category: Christology
Occurs 2:4. A direct counterfeit and inversion of Christ’s true deity. Must never be phrased so as to echo the language used of Christ’s true, eternal Sonship (దేవుని కుమారుడు, baseline Critical term) — always include the explicit falsity-marker తనను తాను (‘of himself’).
Katechon Impersonal
Approved rendering: అడ్డగించునది
Transliteration: aḍḍaginchunadi
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: τὸ κατέχον
Category: Eschatology
Occurs 2:6. One of the NT’s most exegetically debated phrases. Translators must preserve the Greek’s deliberate ambiguity and must NOT resolve the identity debate (Roman Empire, gospel preaching, angelic power, Holy Spirit’s restraining ministry) through translation choice.
Katechon Personal
Approved rendering: అడ్డగించువాడు
Transliteration: aḍḍaginchuvāḍu
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ κατέχων
Category: Eschatology
Occurs 2:7, masculine counterpart to katechon_impersonal (2:6). Preserve both forms exactly as distinguished; do not harmonize to a single form.
Mysterion Tes Anomias
Approved rendering: అధర్మ రహస్యం
Transliteration: adharma rahasyam
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: τὸ μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Sin
Occurs 2:7. Anchor with the అధర్మం root every time so the compound reads as ‘the secret operation of lawlessness,’ not a free-floating esoteric-knowledge term (a live category in tantric/occult-adjacent regional folk religion).
Energeia Root
Approved rendering: పనిచేస్తోంది / కార్యము
Transliteration: panichēstōndi / kāryamu
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἐνεργεῖται / ἐνέργεια
Category: Sin
Recurring root across 2:7 (lawlessness at work), 2:9 (Satan’s working), 2:11 (God’s working of delusion) — Paul’s deliberate escalating literary thread. Select one consistent Telugu root and hold it across all three occurrences.
Dynamis Lawless
Approved rendering: బలం
Transliteration: balam
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: సామర్థ్యం, శక్తి
Original: δύναμις (τοῦ Σατανᾶ)
Category: Sin
Occurs 2:9. Deliberately distinguished from దేవుని సామర్థ్యం (reserved exclusively for God’s saving power) and from the forbidden శక్తి. Three-way distinction (దేవుని సామర్థ్యం / బలం / never శక్తి) must be taught explicitly to Phase 2 translators.
Semeia Kai Terata Pseudous
Approved rendering: అబద్ధపు సూచక క్రియలు, ఆశ్చర్యకార్యములు
Transliteration: abaddhapu sūchaka kriyalu, āścharyakāryamulu
Doctrine: Apostasy and Satanic Deception
Original: σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ψεύδους
Category: Sin
Occurs 2:9. Reuses the standard Telugu NT phrase for ‘signs and wonders’ (elsewhere used positively of genuine apostolic miracles) but qualified with అబద్ధపు (‘of falsehood’). The qualifier is mandatory and must never be dropped, to avoid implying all signs and wonders are inherently false.
Apate
Approved rendering: వంచన
Transliteration: vanchana
Doctrine: Apostasy and Satanic Deception
Original: ἀπάτη
Category: Sin
Occurs 2:10 (‘deception of unrighteousness’). Must be kept lexically distinct from πλάνη/మోసం (2:11, the resulting delusional state) despite English versions often using ‘deception’ loosely for both.
Adikia
Approved rendering: అన్యాయం
Transliteration: anyāyam
Doctrine: Apostasy and Satanic Deception
Rejected alternatives: దుర్నీతి
Original: ἀδικία
Category: Sin
Occurs 2:10, 2:12. Direct antonym of established నీతి (righteousness). Must be held distinct from పాపం (sin, baseline) and అధర్మం (lawlessness, this letter) — Telugu needs all three held apart even where English source vocabulary overlaps. Rejected దుర్నీతి reads as generic ‘bad conduct’ and loses the direct antonym relationship.
Pisteusai To Pseudei
Approved rendering: ఆ అబద్ధమును విశ్వసించుట
Transliteration: ā abaddhamunu viswasin̄chuṭa
Doctrine: Judicial Hardening
Original: πιστεῦσαι τῷ ψεύδει
Category: Sin
Occurs 2:11-12 (‘to believe the lie’). Uses the established విశ్వాసం root negatively — a deliberate teaching point that faith’s object determines its value; misplaced faith is still real, active belief, not passive ignorance.
Ekdikesis
Approved rendering: ప్రతిదండన
Transliteration: prati-dandana
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: పగ తీర్చుకొనుట
Original: ἐκδίκησις
Category: Judgment
Occurs 1:8. Judicial, righteous retribution, not personal vindictiveness. పగ తీర్చుకొనుట is rejected because it would wrongly personalize and moralize God’s judgment as emotional payback, a real risk given the emotional register of revenge-vocabulary in Telugu film and folk narrative.
Apollymenoi
Approved rendering: నశించుచున్నవారు
Transliteration: nashin̄chuchunnavāru
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: τοῖς ἀπολλυμένοις
Category: Judgment
Occurs 2:10. Present, ongoing trajectory, not merely a future event; keep the నాశనం/నశించు root consistent with the ἀπώλεια family elsewhere in this passage.
Eudokesantes Te Adikia
Approved rendering: అన్యాయమునందు సంతోషించినవారు
Transliteration: anyāyamunandu santōshinchinavāru
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: εὐδοκήσαντες τῇ ἀδικίᾳ
Category: Judgment
Occurs 2:12. Must convey positive, willful moral approval of evil, not mere passive tolerance, to preserve the verse’s argument that condemnation is deserved. Contrast with 1:11’s positive εὐδοκία (God’s own good pleasure) is a useful teaching point, not a collision.
Hypomone
Approved rendering: ఓర్పు
Transliteration: ōrpu
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: సహనం
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Perseverance
CORE CURRICULUM DOCTRINE TERM. Occurs 1:4, 3:5. సహనం is FORBIDDEN in this context: contemporary Indian public discourse associates it with మతసహనం (interfaith religious tolerance/communal harmony), which would miscast this persecution-doctrine as a call to interfaith tolerance rather than steadfast endurance of suffering for Christ’s sake.
Ergon Pisteos
Approved rendering: విశ్వాసము వలన కలిగిన క్రియ
Transliteration: viswāsamu valana kaligina kriya
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: క్రియ (bare, unanchored)
Original: ἔργον πίστεως
Category: Faith
Occurs 1:11. Must mark the causal direction (faith → deed) explicitly to prevent any reading as merit-earning ‘works’ contrasted with grace. Per the baseline’s own escalation rule, flag for theologian review wherever ἔργον and πίστις co-occur.
Elpis Hope
Approved rendering: నిరీక్షణ
Transliteration: nirīkshana
Doctrine: Hope Grounded in God’s Promise
Rejected alternatives: ఆశ
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Faith
Occurs 2:16 (good hope). Never ఆశ (generic wish/desire), which would reduce a confident, promise-secured biblical hope to mere optimism. Flagged for retroactive harmonization since Romans’ own heavy use of ‘hope’ was not captured in the baseline glossary supplied to this curriculum.
Steko Stand Firm
Approved rendering: స్థిరముగా నిలుచు
Transliteration: sthiramugā niluchu
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: στήκω
Category: Tradition
Occurs 2:15. Direct pastoral response to the panic of 2:2 and the danger of deception in 2:3. Pair with krateo_hold_fast in the same sentence to preserve the verse’s rhetorical doubling.
Krateo Hold Fast
Approved rendering: గట్టిగా పట్టుకొను
Transliteration: gaṭṭigā paṭṭukonu
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: κρατέω
Category: Tradition
Occurs 2:15, paired with στήκω.
Hypakouo Obey
Approved rendering: విధేయత చూపు
Transliteration: vidhēyata chūpu
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: ὑπακούω
Category: Tradition
Occurs 3:14. Same root as the established విశ్వాస విధేయత (obedience of faith) family; here applied to obeying apostolic instruction in this specific letter. Render consistently with that established vocabulary family.
Pneuma Tou Stomatos
Approved rendering: తన నోటి శ్వాసతో
Transliteration: tana nōṭi śvāsatō
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: పరిశుద్ధాత్మ (forbidden here)
Original: τῷ πνεύματι τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ
Category: Christology
Occurs 2:8, an allusion to Isaiah 11:4. Uses శ్వాస (ordinary physical breath) to keep this distinct from ఆత్మ/పరిశుద్ధాత్మ vocabulary — rendering πνεῦμα here with the Holy Spirit term would create serious doctrinal confusion between Christ’s own spoken breath of judgment and the Person of the Holy Spirit.
Ho Poneros
Approved rendering: దుష్టుడు / సాతాను
Transliteration: dushṭuḍu / sātānu
Doctrine: Spiritual Opposition and the Evil One
Rejected alternatives: దయ్యం, భూతం
Original: ὁ πονηρός
Category: Sin
Occurs 3:3. A personal reference to Satan, reinforcing the cosmic-conflict backdrop of the whole letter; flag for consistency check against ch.2’s సాతాను (2:9) so Telugu readers perceive the same referent.
Medium Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: సువార్త
Transliteration: suvārta
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: వార్త
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 2 Thess 1:8 (obeying the gospel), 2:14 (called through our gospel). No deviation.
Faith
Approved rendering: విశ్వాసం
Transliteration: viswāsam
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: భక్తి
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 1:3-4, 1:11, 2:13, 3:2. Same root also underlies this letter’s new negative construction pisteusai_to_pseudei (2:11-12, belief in the lie) and positive pistos_faithful (3:3, God’s own faithfulness).
Called
Approved rendering: పిలువబడిన
Transliteration: piluvabaḍina

Transliteration: śānti
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: మనశ్శాంతి

Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs 1:2, 3:16 (‘the Lord of peace himself give you peace’).
Satanas
Approved rendering: సాతాను
Transliteration: sātānu
Doctrine: Spiritual Opposition and the Evil One
Rejected alternatives: దయ్యం, భూతం
Original: Σατανᾶς
Category: Sin
Occurs 2:9; cf. 3:3 (the evil one). Standard transliteration across Indian Christian traditions. Must not be diluted into generic folk-religion ‘evil spirit’ vocabulary, which would flatten a personal, defeated-but-still-active adversary into impersonal malevolence.
Diogmoi
Approved rendering: హింస
Transliteration: hinsa
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: διωγμοί
Category: Perseverance
Occurs 1:4. Standard, well-established Telugu Christian term for persecution. Root of the Gandhian అహింస (non-violence) discourse; context (agent/patient specified, faith-based hostility) sufficiently disambiguates.
Thlipseis

Transliteration: śrama
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: θλίψεις

Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: ἀγάπη

Ekkakeo Grow Weary
Approved rendering: నిరుత్సాహపడు
Transliteration: nirutsāhapaḍu
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution

Parangello
Approved rendering: ఆజ్ఞాపించు
Transliteration: āgnyāpin̄chu
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Rejected alternatives: ప్రోత్సహించడం
Original: παραγγέλλω
Category: Tradition
Occurs 3:4, 3:6, 3:10, 3:12. Deliberately more directive/authoritative than the baseline’s gentler ప్రోత్సహించడం (‘exhort’); do not soften toward that register.
Mimeomai
Approved rendering: అనుసరించు
Transliteration: anusarin̄chu
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: μιμέομαι
Category: Tradition
Occurs 3:7, 3:9. Discipleship-modeling concept (Paul as example).
Exousia
Approved rendering: అధికారం
Transliteration: adhikāram
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: ἐξουσία
Category: Tradition
Occurs 3:9. Flagged for harmonization with any existing Romans 13 rendering of ἐξουσία, since that context concerns civil government while this one concerns apostolic right.

Approved rendering: క్రమరహితంగా
Transliteration: kramarahitamgā
Doctrine: Diligence and Provision through Work

Transliteration: śāntikartayaina Prabhuvu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: శాంతి ప్రభువు (acceptable short form, not preferred as the primary form)
Original: ὁ κύριος τῆς εἰρήνης
Category: God
Occurs 3:16, ‘the Lord of peace.’ Built entirely from established locked terms ప్రభువు and శాంతి; ensure the compound reads naturally rather than as two juxtaposed nouns.
Paraklesis
Approved rendering: ఆదరణ
Transliteration: ādarana
Doctrine: Mutual Encouragement and Comfort
Original: παράκλησις
Category: God
Occurs 2:16 (eternal comfort). Distinguished by context from ప్రోత్సాహం, the baseline’s rendering for the exhortation sense of the cognate verb παρακαλέω, to avoid fragmented vocabulary drift across lessons.
