2 Corinthians — fulfulde
TRI knowledge bundle for 2 Corinthians (fulfulde).
Executive Summary
Executive Summary
2 Corinthians 1–13 | English → Fulfulde | Phase 1 Complete
Format: Smart Brevity
Why it matters
2 Corinthians is the most theologically concentrated and culturally exposed curriculum this pipeline has produced for Fulfulde to date. Its core passage (5:11–21) packs more Critical-risk doctrine into eleven verses — reconciliation, new creation, substitutionary atonement, imputed righteousness, the incarnation, and the deity of Christ — than any single passage in the Romans baseline. At the same time, the letter’s later chapters (10–12) mount a sustained rhetorical argument — boasting in weakness as the site of God’s power — that runs directly against both of the destination culture’s dominant value systems at once: Fulani Islamic theology’s atonement-free, deeds-weighing soteriology, and Pulaaku’s honor-based code of strength and self-sufficiency. Getting this letter wrong risks either doctrinal collapse (softened Christology, syncretized reconciliation) or cultural rejection (a paradox readers dismiss as foreign rhetoric). Getting it right requires materially more theologian review capacity than Romans required.
Key findings
- 98 total glossary terms now govern this curriculum: 41 inherited unchanged from the Romans baseline, 57 newly coined for 2 Corinthians (most as provisional descriptive compounds, per Fulfulde’s thinner Bible-translation tradition).
- 53 of 98 terms (54%) carry Critical or High doctrine risk — 21 Critical, 32 High — mandating human theologian review before enforcement. This is a materially higher proportion than the Romans baseline.
- 37 doctrines identified across chs. 1–13; 29 (78%) require mandatory human theologian review — 14 Critical, 15 High, per
assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json. Only 5 doctrines need native-speaker-only review and 3 are automated-only (thanksgiving, fellowship/participation-in-giving, cheerful/equitable giving). - Four entirely new doctrine categories with no Romans precedent — Reconciliation with God, New Creation in Christ, Genuine versus False Apostleship, and Power in Weakness — each has no counterpart category at all in mainstream Sahelian Sunni soteriology, per the comparative theology analysis.
- The core passage (5:11–21) is the single highest-concentration Critical-risk cluster in the curriculum: ten distinct doctrines converge there, and every clause requires theologian sign-off without exception.
- Every chapter (1–13) was reviewed and contributes load-bearing vocabulary; none was found to be reuse-only, consistent with 2 Corinthians’ shorter, thematically concentrated structure.
Risks
- Reconciliation/atonement gap (5:11–21): Islamic soteriology has no mediated, God-initiated reconciliation category — artirgol e Alla and the “Great Exchange” (5:21) must never be read as equivalent to tawba-and-mercy or left to imply Christ became morally sinful.
- Honor-code collision (chs. 10–12): lo’ɗe (weakness) and mantaari (boasting) sit in direct, simultaneous tension with Pulaaku’s teddungal and the historical martial-reform self-image of Fulani Islamic movements; softening this paradox is explicitly forbidden.
- False-cognate exposure: Aljanna (12:2–4, paradise) and tuubdi (7:9–10, repentance) share vocabulary with well-articulated Islamic doctrines (firdaws/deeds-weighed paradise; tawba as meritorious human act) that pull in the opposite theological direction from Paul’s argument.
- Reserved-word integrity: “The god of this age” (4:4) must never render with Alla; any lapse risks readers hearing the text call Satan by the name of the true God.
- Scope-creep risk: nulaaɓe fenaaɓe (false apostles, 11:13) must stay narrowly targeted at false Christian teaching-authority claims, never generalized into a blanket judgment on marabouts, Sufi teachers, or Qur’anic scholars.
- Sect-pattern contamination: Watchtower (Jehovah’s Witness) Trinitarian-minimizing renderings and Ahmadiyya apostleship-flattening renderings both circulate in the region and must not be echoed, especially at 13:14 and 5:20.
- Thinner translation tradition compounds every risk above: most new terms are provisional compounds without a single settled reference translation to anchor them, per
05_translation_landscape.md.
Opportunities
- Genuine bridge points exist and should be used deliberately: sabr/munyal (patient endurance) for suffering-and-comfort; zakat/tzedakah-style structured almsgiving for generosity; isnad-style authority discernment for genuine-vs-false apostleship; pastoralist tent/yoke/clay-vessel imagery throughout.
- Shared vocabulary (Almasiihu, Seytaane, Linjiila) offers an entry point for teaching, provided every occurrence pairs the shared word with its distinct Christian doctrinal content rather than assuming shared belief.
- The native-rooted nulaaɗo convention (never rasuulu), already proven in the Romans baseline, extends cleanly to this letter’s ambassador and false-apostle vocabulary, preserving a consistent, theologically safe apostleship vocabulary family across both curricula.
Recommended actions
- Route all 29 Critical/High doctrines and all Critical/High terms to mandatory human theologian review before Phase 2 enforcement, with 5:11–21, 12:9, and 13:14 flagged as the three highest-priority single-passage/single-verse review items.
- Schedule theologian review capacity for chs. 3, 5, 11, and 12 specifically before batch Phase 2 processing begins; these four chapters carry the highest density of provisional, unconfirmed compounds.
- Confirm the destination-dialect book name and YouVersion version ID/abbreviation (both currently unconfirmed per
05_translation_landscape.md) before generating any production Scripture hyperlinks. - Native-speaker-confirm every provisional descriptive compound (33 of 57 new terms) for dialectal naturalness before treating any as settled, per the baseline’s thinner-tradition protocol.
- Brief all reviewers on the comparative theology findings (
04_comparative_theology.md) before translation begins, with particular attention to the atonement-gap and honor-code-collision cross-doctrinal observations, since these affect teaching-material framing beyond the raw translated text itself.
