Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 2 Thessalonians (English → Fulfulde)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified across 2 Thessalonians 1-3 (see 07_semantic_analysis.md for full verse-level treatment). Terms marked “Reused (baseline)” MUST use the exact Fulfulde rendering recorded in the Romans translation_memory.json; no alternative may be substituted. Terms marked “New (this curriculum)” are proposed here for the first time and must be added to translation_memory.json at the next version increment, per the Phase 1→Phase 2 handoff protocol, with mandatory theologian and/or native-speaker review per their assigned risk tier before being treated as final.

| Peace | jam | Medium | 1,3 | Distinguish greeting/benediction sense from Pulaaku everyday-greeting register per baseline caution |

| Thanksgiving | yettoore | Low | 1,2 | Standard, low risk |
| Father | Baaba | Medium | 1 | God as Father in the greeting (1:1-2) |
| Apostle | nulaaɗo | High | 3 | Grounds Paul’s “command” (3:4,6,12) in apostolic, not rasuulu-style prophetic, authority |
| Intercession | torgol wonande | Medium | 3 | ”Pray for us” (3:1) |

| Righteousness | peewal | Critical | (contrast term) | Explicitly kept distinct from the forensic-justice sense (nunɗal) used in ch.1’s judgment language |
| Salvation | kisal | Critical | 2 | ”That they might be saved” (2:10) |
B. New Terms Introduced for This Curriculum (2 Thessalonians)
| Term | Fulfulde Rendering | Risk | Chapters | Grounded Risk Rationale | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day of the Lord | Ñalaande Joom | Critical | 2 | Direct collision with the well-developed Islamic Yawm al-Qiyāma / Yawm ad-Dīn eschatological framework, held with scholarly precision in Fulani Islamic tradition; must be anchored explicitly to the Lord Jesus’s return, not left to default into the reader’s existing Judgment Day category | Human theologian + native speaker |
| Man of Lawlessness | Gorko Añaandu Sariya | Critical | 2 | Structurally parallels al-Masīḥ ad-Dajjāl, the deceiver figure of Islamic eschatology known through an extensive Hadith tradition; requires explicit engagement rather than avoidance | Human theologian |
| Lawlessness | añaandu sariya | Critical | 2 | No crystallized single Fulfulde term exists; built on sariya (law), risks being narrowed to opposition to Sharia specifically rather than cosmic rebellion against God | Human theologian |
| Son of Perdition | Ɓiɗɗo Halkaare | Critical | 2 | Grammatically parallels baseline’s Ɓiɗɗo Alla (Son of God); must not be confused with any claim about divine sonship | Human theologian |
| Rebellion/Apostasy | murtaari | Critical | 2 | Evokes the weighty Islamic category of ridda (apostasy from Islam); must be clarified as a future climactic falling-away from Christian faith, not a general apostasy-from-Islam reference | Human theologian |
| Mystery of Lawlessness | gundo añaandu sariya | High | 2 | Provisional compound; teaches lawlessness as already secretly active, not merely future | Human theologian |
| The Restrainer (impersonal) | ɗum ɗon haɗata / haɗirgal | High | 2 | One of the most exegetically disputed phrases in the NT; provisional rendering, root must match “the restrainer” (personal) below | Human theologian |
| The Restrainer (personal) | haɗoowo | High | 2 | Must share the haɗ- root with the impersonal form (2:6) to preserve the reader’s ability to track the referent | Human theologian |
| Coming/Parousia (Christ) | arditgol (Joom Yeesu Almasiihu) | Critical | 2 | Must reuse identical root for the lawless one’s counterfeit “coming” (2:9) to preserve Paul’s deliberate ironic parallel | Human theologian |
| Coming/Parousia (lawless one) | arditgol (Seytaane) | Critical | 2 | Same root as above, explicitly marked as Satanic and counterfeit; must never be confused with, or presented neutrally alongside, Christ’s true coming | Human theologian |
| Gathering Together | kawrital | Medium | 2 | Distinct derived form from kawtal (church) to avoid conflating present church with future eschatological gathering | Native speaker |
| Revealed/Revealing | feeñal | High | 1,2 | Same root used of both the lawless one’s unveiling (2:3,6,8) and Christ’s own revealing (1:7); must be applied consistently to preserve the parallel | Human theologian |
| Temple of God | Suudu Alla | High | 2 | Must be kept sharply distinct from moosaale (mosque) per baseline’s established church/mosque distinction | Human theologian |
| Exalts himself (as God) | hisɗingol hoore mun / hollude hoore mun wonde ko Alla | Critical | 2 | Closest structural echo in this book of the shirk/deity-claim objection already Critical in the Romans registry; opportunity to teach the contrast with Christ’s true deity explicitly | Human theologian |
| Power (Satan’s) | doole Seytaane | Critical | 2 | Must never be rendered as, or left ambiguous with, doole Alla (God’s power); the forbidden-substitution logic of the baseline’s Power of God entry must extend here in reverse | Human theologian |
| Lying Signs and Wonders | maandaaji e kaawisaaji fenaande | Critical | 2 | Intersects directly with Hadith tradition describing al-Dajjāl’s deceptive miracles; must teach that wonder-working is not self-authenticating evidence of divine sanction | Human theologian |
| Working of Error/Delusion | golle majjere | Critical | 2 | majjude (“go astray”) resonates with the Qur’anic ḍalāl (spiritual error) category central to Islamic guided/astray discourse; must be anchored to rejection of gospel truth specifically | Human theologian |
| Love of the Truth | yiɗde goonga | High | 2 | goonga must be understood as the specific gospel truth about Christ, per gomɗinal’s baseline object-of-faith caution | Human theologian |
| Those Perishing | halketeeɓe | High | 2 | Present, ongoing spiritual ruin, distinct from halkaare duumiinde (final eternal destruction) | Native speaker |
| Believe the Lie | gomɗinde fenaande | High | 2 | Must share the gomɗin- root with gomɗinal to preserve Paul’s ironic wordplay against true faith | Human theologian |
| Righteous Judgment / Justice (forensic) | nunɗal / ñaawoore nunɗuɗo Alla | High | 1,2 | Reuses baseline’s rejected-for-righteousness term nunɗal appropriately here for forensic justice; must be kept distinct from soteriological peewal | Human theologian |
| Retribution/Vengeance | yoɓtaari | High | 1 | Judicial repayment against persecutors; distinct from personal human revenge | Native speaker |
| Eternal Destruction | halkaare duumiinde | High | 1 | Final, irrevocable judgment; ground it in separation from Christ’s presence, not generic deeds-weighing | Human theologian |
| From the Presence of the Lord | yaltude yeeso Joom | High | 1 | Relational separation from Christ himself is the essence of the punishment | Human theologian |
| Perseverance/Endurance | munyal | High | 1,3 | Direct overlap with Pulaaku’s cardinal virtue of munyal; valuable bridge term but must be explicitly grounded in hope of Christ’s return, not left as bare cultural stoicism | Human theologian |
| Persecutions | tooñaŋgol | Medium | 1 | Targeted hostility for the faith | Native speaker |
| Afflictions/Tribulations | coono | Medium | 1 | Broader hardship distinct from targeted persecution | Native speaker |
| Work of Faith | golle iwdi e gomɗinal | High | 1 | Modeled on baseline’s obedience_of_faith pattern; works as fruit, never basis, of salvation | Human theologian |
| Belief of the Truth | gomɗinal e goonga | High | 2 | Positive counterpart to “believe the lie” (2:11); preserves Paul’s contrast | Human theologian |
| Stand Fast / Hold the Traditions | tabitde, jogaade aada nulaaɓe | High | 2,3 | Doctrinal core of the “Standing Firm in the Traditions” theme; see Traditions entry below | Human theologian |
| Traditions | aada nulaaɓe | High | 2,3 | Risks being mapped onto Islamic Sunna/Hadith authority (an existing, robust category for authoritative extra-scriptural tradition) OR onto indigenous Fulani aada (custom); must be taught as apostolic teaching, authoritative specifically because it comes from Christ through his apostles (nulaaɓe, reused from baseline), not equivalent to either | Human theologian |
| Establish/Strengthen | tabitinde | Medium | 2,3 | ”Establish your hearts” (2:17); “the Lord will establish you” (3:3) | Native speaker |
| The Evil One (personal) | Seytaane (context of “e ndeenka…e Seytaane”) | High | 3 | Should be made explicit that “the evil one” (3:3) likely names Satan personally, consistent with 2:9 | Human theologian |
| Command (apostolic) | yamirde | High | 3 | Apostolic commanding authority, grounded in nulaaɗo status, never rasuulu-style authority | Human theologian |
| Walking Disorderly | yahdoowo bonande / yahdu bonande | Medium | 3 | Refusal to work, likely tied to over-eager end-times expectation from ch.2 | Native speaker |
| Busybodies | wakkilaare | Low-Medium | 3 | Idleness expressing itself as meddling | Native speaker |
| Work Quietly | golle e deeƴre | Low | 3 | Positive counterpart to busybody-ness; deeƴre reused here appropriately (unlike its rejection as a substitute for “peace”) since it is literally describing calm, undisruptive conduct | Automated |
| If Anyone Will Not Work, Let Him Not Eat | si gorko yiɗaa gollaade, o ñaamataa | Medium | 3 | Established community discipline principle, cited as apostolic tradition | Native speaker |
| Admonish as a Brother | wagginde ka jokkondiral musiɗɗo | Medium | 3 | Restorative, familial discipline, not punitive expulsion | Native speaker |
| Sign (authenticating mark) | maande | Low | 3 | Paul’s handwriting as authentication; connects back to 2:2’s concern about a spurious letter | Automated |
C. Risk Summary for This Curriculum
| Risk Tier | Count (new terms) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 14 | Human theologian (mandatory, no exceptions) |
| High | 18 | Human theologian or native speaker per table above |
| Medium | 9 | Native speaker |
| Low | 3 | Automated |
Note on Critical-tier density: This curriculum’s Critical-tier term count is proportionally higher than the Romans baseline’s, reflecting the concentrated doctrinal density of 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 and its unusually direct collision with a fully articulated competing eschatological system (Islamic apocalyptic tradition regarding al-Dajjāl, Yawm al-Qiyāma, and the signs of the Hour). Phase 2 rollout planning should budget theologian review time accordingly, consistent with the baseline’s general caution about this language’s thinner translation tradition requiring more review time than languages with a settled reference Bible.
Handoff instruction: All “New (this curriculum)” terms above must be appended to translation_memory.json (version increment required) and to bible_term_registry.json and doctrine_risk_registry.json before Phase 2 segment translation of 2 Thessalonians begins, per the 12_ai_translation_requirements.md Translation Memory Load and Enforcement Instructions.
Critical Risk Terms
Lord
Approved rendering: Joom
Transliteration: Joom
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Laamiiɗo (reserve for ruler/king in political contexts)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Never Laamiiɗo, especially in judgment contexts (1:7-9) where readers might otherwise map Christ’s coming onto a political-eschatological ruler figure resonant with the Sokoto Caliphate. Anchors both ‘the Day of the Lord’ and ‘the Lord of peace’ (3:16) in this book.
Jesus
Approved rendering: Yeesu
Transliteration: Yeesu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Iisa (Quranic form; reserve only for explicit interfaith-dialogue contexts)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Never the Quranic Iisa, especially in 2:1-8 where the passage’s argument depends on this being the specific historical Jesus, not a generic eschatological Isa figure returning to defeat al-Dajjal.
Christ
Approved rendering: Kiristu
Transliteration: Kiristu
Doctrine: Christology
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
New entry for this curriculum’s translation memory (previously recorded only as a transliteration standard in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md, not as a TM term). Must always appear paired as ‘Yeesu Kiristu,’ never standing alone in a way that could be reduced to a Quranic honorific or a bare human title.
Messiah
Approved rendering: Almasiihu
Transliteration: Almasiihu
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Original: Χριστός (titular sense)
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Especially load-bearing here because the passage’s entire logic (2:3-9) depends on distinguishing the true Almasiihu’s authoritative, effortless destruction of the lawless one from any Islamic reading in which a returning Isa merely assists in defeating al-Dajjal as one actor among several.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Ruuhu Ceniiɗo
Transliteration: Ruuhu Ceniiɗo
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ruuhu alone (never use), jinna/jinnaaji (never use; jinn beings)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged, always in full. Must be sharply distinguished from Christ’s own ‘breath of his mouth’ (2:8, fooyre hunuko makko), a separate christological image not referring to the Holy Spirit.
Grace
Approved rendering: Arjunde
Transliteration: arjunde
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: yurmeende (mercy), barke (never use)
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Used in epistolary greeting and benediction formulas (1:2; 3:18). This book does not argue the grace/works contrast at length as Romans does, but Arjunde must still never drift toward barke’s reciprocal, person-mediated blessing sense.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: peewal
Transliteration: peewal
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: nunɗal (fairness/justice, too civic — but see this book’s separate reuse of nunɗal for forensic judgment, kept distinct from this entry)
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Used in this book only as a contrast term against this book’s forensic-justice vocabulary. Must be kept sharply distinct from the forensic-justice sense (nunɗal/ñaawoore) used for God’s righteous judgment in ch. 1.
Salvation
Approved rendering: kisal
Transliteration: kisal
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: dancal (protection, never as stand-alone substitute), aljanna (paradise, never as stand-alone gloss)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Named as the outcome denied to those who reject the love of the truth (2:10). Must not default into a deeds-weighing framework; 2:10-13’s contrast between love of the truth and believing the lie should ground kisal explicitly in gospel-truth reception.
Day Of The Lord
Approved rendering: Ñalaande Joom
Transliteration: Ñalaande Joom
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: Ñalaande Darngal / Ñalaande Kisiiba (Islamic-register descriptive phrases for Yawm al-Qiyama/Yawm ad-Din; never borrow directly as a bridge term)
Original: ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new term. Direct terminological and conceptual collision with Yawm al-Qiyama/Yawm ad-Din, held with scholarly precision (including detailed ‘Alamat as-Sa’a signs-of-the-Hour literature) in Fulani Islamic tradition. Must be anchored explicitly to the Lord Jesus’s own return on every occurrence — never left to stand as a bare, unglossed technical term. First occurrence per document must gloss: ‘the day the Lord Yeesu Almasiihu returns’ (Ñalaande nde Joom Yeesu Almasiihu artata). Provisional; requires theologian AND native-speaker confirmation before deployment.
Parousia Of Christ
Approved rendering: arditgol (Joom Yeesu Almasiihu)
Transliteration: arditgol
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new term. Christ’s visible, personal, bodily second advent (2:1,8). Must use the identical arditgol root used for the lawless one’s counterfeit ‘coming’ (2:9) to preserve Paul’s deliberate literary parallel — losing this parallel obscures that the lawless one is a counterfeit of Christ, not a separate category. This root must never be varied for stylistic naturalness.
Parousia Of Lawless One
Approved rendering: arditgol (Seytaane)
Transliteration: arditgol
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: παρουσία (τοῦ ἀνόμου)
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new term. The lawless one’s satanically-empowered counterfeit ‘coming’ (2:9), a deliberate ironic parody of Christ’s true coming. Same arditgol root as Christ’s parousia, explicitly marked as belonging to Seytaane; must never be presented neutrally alongside, or confused with, Christ’s true coming.
Rebellion Apostasy
Approved rendering: murtaari
Transliteration: murtaari
Doctrine: The Coming Rebellion/Apostasy
Rejected alternatives: ridda (Arabic; never use — the weighty Islamic category of apostasy from Islam)
Original: ἀποστασία
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new term. Native-rooted murtaari (from murtude, to rebel/turn away) correctly avoids the loaded Arabic ridda, but will still evoke this extremely weighty, socially and historically consequential category for Fulani readers. Highest social-sensitivity item in this curriculum: must be explicitly clarified as a future, climactic falling-away from the Christian faith preceding the Day of the Lord, never left to be heard as commentary on real, live apostasy-from-Islam situations in the reader’s own community.
Lawlessness
Approved rendering: añaandu sariya
Transliteration: añaandu sariya
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new descriptive compound built on sariya (law, reused from baseline). No crystallized single Fulfulde theological term exists. Risk: readers could hear this as opposition to Islamic religious law specifically (given sariya’s cognate resonance with Sharia) rather than cosmic rebellion against God; every occurrence in doctrinal exposition must carry an explicit clarifying clause stating this is rebellion against Alla’s own moral order, not against any human legal-religious system including Sharia.
Man Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: Gorko Añaandu Sariya
Transliteration: Gorko Añaandu Sariya
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: direct transliteration/use of ‘ad-Dajjal’ (never use, even informally in teaching notes)
Original: ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας / ὁ ἄνομος
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new term. Occupies structurally the same narrative slot as al-Masih ad-Dajjal, an extensively developed Hadith figure. Genuine point of contact but not doctrinal equivalence — Paul’s figure specifically counterfeits and opposes Christ’s own lordship and deity, a claim absent from the Dajjal tradition. Requires explicit, respectful engagement: name and fence the parallel directly rather than avoiding it.
Son Of Perdition
Approved rendering: Ɓiɗɗo Halkaare
Transliteration: Ɓiɗɗo Halkaare
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new term. Semitic idiom (‘characterized by/destined for destruction’) emphasizing the man of lawlessness’s certain ruin (2:3). Grammatically parallels the baseline’s Ɓiɗɗo Alla (Son of God); must be taught paired with, and clearly distinguished from, the Sonship of Christ doctrine so readers do not confuse this idiom with any claim about literal divine sonship in either direction.
Exalts Himself As God
Approved rendering: hisɗingol hoore mun / hollude hoore mun wonde ko Alla
Transliteration: hisɗingol hoore mun; hollude hoore mun wonde ko Alla
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὑπεραιρόμενος … ἀποδεικνύντα ἑαυτὸν ὅτι ἔστιν θεός
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new compound term. The lawless one’s self-exaltation and ultimate blasphemy (2:4). This is the passage’s closest structural echo of the shirk objection already Critical in the Romans registry for the deity/sonship of Christ — but here Scripture itself condemns a human claim to deity. Valuable teaching opportunity: name this as common ground with the reader’s own shirk-sensitivity, then complete the turn to affirm Christ’s own true, unique deity by explicit contrast. Order of exposition matters as much as term choice.
Power Of Satan
Approved rendering: doole Seytaane
Transliteration: doole Seytaane
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: barke (never use; marabout-associated blessing/spiritual power), doole Alla (never use unqualified for this referent)
Original: ἐνέργεια τοῦ Σατανᾶ
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new term. The satanically-sourced power behind the lawless one’s counterfeit coming (2:9). Must never be rendered as, or left ambiguous with, doole Alla — the baseline’s forbidden-substitution logic for Power of God extends here in reverse: this power belongs to Seytaane and its source must always be stated explicitly. Highest-risk single verse in the passage for a Sahelian/Fulani readership, since ‘power’ vocabulary in this domain readily drifts toward barke’s semantic field.
Lying Signs And Wonders
Approved rendering: maandaaji e kaawisaaji fenaande
Transliteration: maandaaji e kaawisaaji fenaande
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ψεύδους
Category: Eschatology
CRITICAL, new term. Satanically empowered false miracles designed to deceive (2:9). Intersects directly with Hadith tradition describing al-Dajjal’s deceptive miracles before his defeat — a real shared narrative point of contact. The word fenaande (false/deceptive) must always remain in the phrase itself, never standing as neutral ‘signs and wonders’ that could be misread as evidence of legitimate spiritual authority. Must state plainly that wonder-working is not self-authenticating evidence of divine sanction.
Working Of Error
Approved rendering: golle majjere
Transliteration: golle majjere
Doctrine: God’s Judicial Hardening
Original: ἐνέργεια πλάνης
Category: Judgment
CRITICAL, new term. God’s judicial act of confirming those who rejected the truth in their self-chosen deception (2:11). majjude (‘go astray’) resonates strongly with the Qur’anic dalal (spiritual error) category central to Islamic guided/astray (hidaya/dalal) discourse, including the daily-prayer petition against ‘those who have gone astray.’ Genuine teaching bridge but must be anchored specifically to rejection of gospel truth about Christ (2:10-12), never left as generic irreligion. Must not be softened to suggest God merely ‘allows’ this passively when the Greek states active divine sending; equally must not be read as God authoring the original lie.
High Risk Terms
God
Approved rendering: Alla
Transliteration: Alla
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. In 2 Thessalonians, Alla is the agent behind judicial hardening (2:11) and the source of the Day belonging to the Lord Jesus (2:2); must never default to a generic Islamic Yawm ad-Din framework without explicit Christ-centered anchoring.
Faith
Approved rendering: gomɗinal
Transliteration: gomɗinal
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: hoolaare (trust, acceptable supporting synonym)
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. The object of gomɗinal must remain explicit throughout this book, especially in 3:2 (‘not all have faith’) and 2:13 (‘belief of the truth’). Shares its gomɗin- root, by deliberate design, with this book’s new terms ‘believe the lie’ (gomɗinde fenaande) and ‘belief of the truth’ (gomɗinal e goonga) to preserve Paul’s ironic wordplay in 2:10-13; this root must never be varied.
Gospel
Approved rendering: Linjiila
Transliteration: Linjiila
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: kabaaru moƴƴo (acceptable explanatory gloss)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Linjiila’s currency and the tahrif-doctrine risk documented in the baseline apply equally here, especially in 1:8’s ‘obey the gospel’ language and 2:14’s ‘called through our gospel.‘
Sanctification
Approved rendering: ceniinde
Transliteration: ceniinde
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: laaɓal (ritual/ceremonial purification, avoid as substitute)
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Named as part of the election-calling-sanctification sequence at 2:13. Must be kept distinct from laaɓal, ritual purification associated with wuduu.
Saints
Approved rendering: seniiɓe
Transliteration: seniiɓe
Doctrine: Sainthood
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. ‘Glorified in his saints’ (1:10) must read corporately, addressing every believer, consistent with baseline’s sainthood caution.
Called
Approved rendering: noddaaɗo
Transliteration: noddaaɗo
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: torraaɗo (invited, too weak)
Original: κλητός / ἐκάλεσεν
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. In this book always the effectual-calling-to-salvation sense (2:14) or ‘worthy of this calling’ (1:11), not the apostleship sense active in Romans 1:1.
Calling
Approved rendering: noddaandi
Transliteration: noddaandi
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Believers are asked to be found worthy of this calling (1:11).
Election
Approved rendering: suɓagol
Transliteration: suɓagol
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: natal (fate/al-qadar, use with caution)
Original: εἵλατο (ἐκλογή)
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Named explicitly in 2:13 (‘God chose you’). natal/al-qadar caution applies with equal force here since 2:13-14’s calling-election-sanctification sequence could otherwise be absorbed into an impersonal predetermination framework rather than grounding assurance in God’s personal, relational love.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: doole Alla
Transliteration: doole Alla
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: barke (marabout-associated blessing/spiritual power, never use)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Categorically distinct from this book’s new counterfeit term ‘power of Satan’ (doole Seytaane, 2:9); NEVER used for the lawless one’s satanically-sourced power. The baseline’s forbidden-substitution logic extends here in reverse.
Law
Approved rendering: sariya
Transliteration: sariya
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. In this book, functions as the root for the new compound ‘lawlessness’ (añaandu sariya) and ‘man of lawlessness’ (Gorko Añaandu Sariya); its Arabic-derived cognate resonance with Sharia elevates risk when compounded — see those entries. sariya itself, standing alone, retains its baseline Medium/High meaning as the Mosaic Law/law generally.
Apostle
Approved rendering: nulaaɗo
Transliteration: nulaaɗo
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: rasuulu (never use; Muhammad’s Islamic title)
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Grounds Paul’s binding commands in ch. 3 (3:4,6,12); his commanding authority (yamirde) must be understood as flowing from nulaaɗo status, never suggesting a rasuulu-style prophetic authority.
Providence
Approved rendering: welsindiigal Alla
Transliteration: welsindiigal Alla
Doctrine: Providence
Rejected alternatives: natal (fate/al-qadar, use with caution), hasara (misfortune/chance, never use)
Original: πρόνοια (cf. ἐν τῷ ἑαυτοῦ καιρῷ, 2:6; στηρίξει, 3:3)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Underlies the lawless one’s ‘own appointed time’ (2:6) and ‘the Lord will establish and guard you’ (3:3). Must be distinguished from natal and hasara.
Temple Of God
Approved rendering: Suudu Alla
Transliteration: Suudu Alla
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Eschatology
New term, descriptive (‘House of God’). God’s sanctuary in which the lawless one sets himself up (2:4); referent debated among interpreters (rebuilt temple, the church, symbolic claim) — curriculum should present the range of faithful interpretive options rather than adjudicate. Must be kept sharply distinct from moosaale (mosque) per the baseline’s established church/mosque distinction; readers must not map this onto mosque or shrine imagery.
The Restrainer Impersonal
Approved rendering: ɗum ɗon haɗata (haɗirgal)
Transliteration: haɗirgal
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: τὸ κατέχον
Category: Eschatology
New term. One of the most exegetically disputed phrases in the NT (2:6); genuinely empty semantic space in Fulfilde with no existing term to build on. Risk that readers, lacking a stated referent, will import an existing Islamic ‘signs of the Hour’ identification to fill the interpretive gap the text deliberately leaves open. Must share the haɗ- root with the personal form (2:7); teach openly that this is disputed and the curriculum takes a considered but not dogmatic position, resisting the urge to over-resolve an ambiguity the source text itself preserves.
The Restrainer Personal
Approved rendering: haɗoowo
Transliteration: haɗoowo
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ κατέχων
Category: Eschatology
New term. A personal agent actively restraining the lawless one’s emergence until removed (2:7). Must share the haɗ- root with the impersonal form (2:6) so the reader can track that the same restraining reality is meant, only now referred to personally.
Mystery Of Lawlessness
Approved rendering: gundo añaandu sariya
Transliteration: gundo añaandu sariya
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: τὸ μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Eschatology
New compound built on gundo (mystery/secret, an established general Fulfulde term with low risk in isolation) and añaandu sariya (lawlessness, see that entry). Provisional pending theologian confirmation. Teaches that rebellion against God is already secretly at work in history (2:7), correcting a purely future-only reading.
Revealed Revealing
Approved rendering: feeñal
Transliteration: feeñal
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ἀποκαλυφθῆναι / ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Eschatology
New term. The unveiling of a previously hidden reality — used of both the lawless one’s unveiling (2:3,6,8) and Christ’s own revealing (1:7). Must use one consistent feeñal root throughout the entire book to preserve Paul’s deliberate parallel and contrast between the counterfeit unveiling and Christ’s true unveiling; this root must never be varied for stylistic naturalness.
Love Of The Truth
Approved rendering: yiɗde goonga
Transliteration: yiɗde goonga
Doctrine: God’s Judicial Hardening
Original: ἡ ἀγάπη τῆς ἀληθείας
Category: Salvation
New term. Affectionate, committed embrace of gospel truth about Christ, whose absence (not mere ignorance) condemns (2:10). goonga must be understood as the specific gospel truth about Christ, per gomɗinal’s baseline object-of-faith caution, not truth in a generalized epistemic sense.
Those Perishing
Approved rendering: halketeeɓe
Transliteration: halketeeɓe
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: οἱ ἀπολλύμενοι
Category: Eschatology
New term. Present, ongoing spiritual ruin (2:10), distinct from halkaare duumiinde (final eternal destruction, 1:9). Must be kept visibly distinct from that entry.
Believe The Lie
Approved rendering: gomɗinde fenaande
Transliteration: gomɗinde fenaande
Doctrine: God’s Judicial Hardening
Original: πιστεῦσαι τῷ ψεύδει
Category: Faith
New term. The lawless one’s counterfeit ‘faith-object’ (2:11), a deliberate ironic inversion of true saving faith. Must share the gomɗin- root with gomɗinal (faith) to preserve Paul’s ironic wordplay; this root must never be varied.
Belief Of The Truth
Approved rendering: gomɗinal e goonga
Transliteration: gomɗinal e goonga
Doctrine: Election, Calling, and Sanctification
Original: πίστις ἀληθείας
Category: Faith
New term. Saving trust directed at gospel truth, the positive counterpart to ‘believing the lie’ (2:13). Must be visibly the positive counterpart to gomɗinde fenaande to preserve Paul’s deliberate contrast; shares the gomɗin- root by design.
Righteous Judgment
Approved rendering: nunɗal Alla / ñaawoore nunɗuɗo Alla
Transliteration: nunɗal Alla; ñaawoore nunɗuɗo Alla
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: δίκαιον παρὰ θεῷ
Category: Judgment
New term reusing the baseline’s rejected-for-righteousness sense of nunɗal (fairness/justice) appropriately here, since this is forensic justice toward persecutors (1:6), not soteriological standing. Must be kept distinct from peewal at all times, even where the two concepts appear near each other in the same passage. This reuse of nunɗal is deliberate and correct in this book; translators must not over-generalize the baseline’s original rejection of nunɗal (which addressed a different doctrinal question) into avoiding it here.
Retribution
Approved rendering: yoɓtaari
Transliteration: yoɓtaari
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἀνταποδοῦναι θλῖψιν / ἐκδίκησις
Category: Judgment
New term. God’s just judicial recompense against persecutors (1:6,8), distinct from personal human revenge. Must always appear with an explicit subject (Alla yoɓta, ‘God repays’) to prevent a personal-vengeance misreading.
Eternal Destruction
Approved rendering: halkaare duumiinde
Transliteration: halkaare duumiinde
Doctrine: Eternal Destruction and Separation from the Lord
Original: ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος
Category: Judgment
New descriptive compound. Permanent, irreversible ruin, the final judgment on those who reject the gospel (1:9). Point of gravity-continuity with Islamic eternal-punishment (Jahannam) depictions — helpful common ground — but must retain its specific christological ground (separation from the Lord’s presence, yaltude yeeso Joom) rather than a generic deeds-based framework.
From Presence Of The Lord
Approved rendering: yaltude yeeso Joom
Transliteration: yaltude yeeso Joom
Doctrine: Eternal Destruction and Separation from the Lord
Original: ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Judgment
New term. Hebraic idiom for banishment from God’s personal presence (1:9), naming the essence of the punishment. The essence of the punishment is relational separation from Christ himself, not merely a place of torment; must be stated plainly and always taught together with halkaare duumiinde as one unit.
Perseverance
Approved rendering: munyal
Transliteration: munyal
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Perseverance
New term with direct, valuable overlap with munyal, one of the four cardinal virtues of Pulaaku (alongside semteende, hakkille, teddungal). Genuine cultural asset but must be explicitly grounded in the gospel hope of 1:5-10 and Christ’s return in every occurrence (1:4; 3:5,13), never left as a bare ethnic-cultural virtue (dignified stoicism, honor-preservation) disconnected from the gospel. Recommended pairing convention: never let munyal stand as a bare virtue-word; always state what it is endurance for.
Work Of Faith
Approved rendering: golle iwdi e gomɗinal
Transliteration: golle iwdi e gomɗinal
Doctrine: Work of Faith and Obedience Produced by Faith
Original: ἔργον πίστεως
Category: Faith
New compound modeled directly on the baseline’s ɗoftagol iwdi e gomɗinal (obedience of faith) pattern (1:11): works as fruit, never basis, of salvation. Merit-reading risk is elevated given the deeds-weighing framework common to regional Islamic soteriology.
Traditions
Approved rendering: aada nulaaɓe
Transliteration: aada nulaaɓe
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Rejected alternatives: aada alone (never use unqualified; would default to indigenous Fulani custom)
Original: παράδοσις
Category: Church
New term. Apostolic teaching handed down orally and in writing, binding on the church (2:15; 3:6). Sits in the rare position of having two competing semantic neighborhoods to fence against simultaneously: (a) Islamic Sunna/Hadith authority, a robust existing category for authoritative extra-Qur’anic tradition, and (b) indigenous Fulani aada (custom), itself weighty within Pulaaku. The nulaaɓe qualifier is what does the fencing work, tying authority explicitly to the apostles (Christ-derived), never to ethnic custom or a prophet’s normative example. Must be glossed on first use per document: ‘teaching that comes from Yeesu Kiristu, through his sent-ones (nulaaɓe).’
Stand Firm
Approved rendering: tabitde, jogaade
Transliteration: tabitde, jogaade
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: στήκετε, κρατεῖτε
Category: Church
New term paired directly with aada nulaaɓe (traditions, 2:15); doctrinal core of the ‘Standing Firm in the Traditions’ theme.
Evil One
Approved rendering: Seytaane
Transliteration: Seytaane
Doctrine: God’s Faithfulness and Protection
Original: ὁ πονηρός
Category: God
New usage-note entry (Seytaane itself already standard Arabic-derived vocabulary shared across Islamic and Christian Fulfulde usage, retained per the baseline’s transliteration methodology). Names Satan personally, from whom the Lord guards believers (3:3), consistent with 2:9’s explicit naming of Satan as the lawless one’s empowering source. Must be taught as naming Satan personally, never merely abstract evil or an impersonal fate (natal).
Command Apostolic
Approved rendering: yamirde
Transliteration: yamirde
Doctrine: Apostolic Authority
Original: παραγγέλλομεν
Category: Church
New term. Formal apostolic instruction carrying binding authority (3:4,6,12). Grounded in Paul’s status as nulaaɗo (reused exactly from baseline), never suggesting a rasuulu-style prophetic authority.
Gods Faithfulness
Approved rendering: hoolaaɗo
Transliteration: hoolaaɗo
Doctrine: God’s Faithfulness and Protection
Original: πιστός ὁ κύριος
Category: God
New term. God/Christ’s own reliable, trustworthy character (3:3), grounding believers’ security regardless of human unfaithfulness. Must be clearly distinguished from human gomɗinal (belief/trust) — this describes God’s own character, not human belief.
Medium Risk Terms
Church
Approved rendering: kawtal
Transliteration: kawtal
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: moosaale (mosque, never use)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Addresses the Thessalonian congregation (1:1,4). Must remain distinct from kawrital (this book’s new term for the future eschatological gathering, 2:1) and from moosaale (mosque).
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: laamu Alla
Transliteration: laamu Alla
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. In 1:5 (‘worthy of the kingdom of God’), the merit-reading risk is elevated beyond the baseline’s general Medium rating: suffering is evidence, not merit, of belonging to God’s kingdom; this must be flagged for careful handling in teaching notes.
Glory
Approved rendering: manaango
Transliteration: manaango
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: teddungal (reserve for human honor in Pulaaku contexts)
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Displayed corporately in Christ’s saints at his coming (1:10) and named as the goal of the calling sequence (2:14). Kept distinct from teddungal.
Peace
Approved rendering: jam
Transliteration: jam
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: deeƴre (calm/stillness, too passive/psychological)
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Invoked in the greeting (1:2) and in the title ‘the Lord of peace’ (3:16). Distinguish from everyday greeting-register jam central to Pulaaku’s teddungal. Note: deeƴre is reused appropriately (not as a peace-substitute but literally) in this book’s new term ‘work quietly’ (golle e deeƴre, 3:12), since that context literally describes calm conduct rather than the doctrinal peace-with-God sense.
Father
Approved rendering: Baaba
Transliteration: Baaba
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Named in the epistolary greeting (1:1-2).
Intercession
Approved rendering: torgol wonande
Transliteration: torgol wonande
Doctrine: Prayer and Intercession
Original: προσεύχεσθε περὶ ἡμῶν
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Used of ‘pray for us’ (3:1). Kept distinct from salaa and from marabout-mediated petition.
Gathering Together
Approved rendering: kawrital
Transliteration: kawrital
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Original: ἐπισυναγωγή
Category: Eschatology
New term. The church’s future gathering to Christ at his return (2:1). Distinct derived form from kawtal (church) to avoid conflating the present gathered church with the future eschatological gathering.
Persecutions
Approved rendering: tooñaŋgol
Transliteration: tooñaŋgol
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: διωγμοί
Category: Perseverance
New term. Hostile pursuit/harassment specifically for the faith (1:4); confirm regional currency with native speakers. Kept distinct from coono (broader affliction).
Afflictions
Approved rendering: coono
Transliteration: coono
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Original: θλίψεις
Category: Perseverance
New term. Broader hardship endured alongside persecution (1:4), distinct from targeted persecution (tooñaŋgol); confirm regional currency.
Establish Strengthen
Approved rendering: tabitinde
Transliteration: tabitinde
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Original: στηρίξαι / στηρίξει
Category: Church
New term from tabitde (to be firm/stand fast). Used of ‘establish your hearts’ (2:17) and ‘the Lord will establish you’ (3:3). Confirm exact theological register with native speakers, distinguishing from merely emotional comfort.
Walking Disorderly
Approved rendering: yahdoowo bonande
Transliteration: yahdoowo bonande
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Diligent Labor
Original: ἀτάκτως περιπατοῦντος
Category: Church
New term. Undisciplined conduct, specifically refusal to work while claiming end-times urgency (3:6,11); likely connected to over-eager expectation of the Day of the Lord from ch.2.
If Anyone Will Not Work
Approved rendering: si gorko yiɗaa gollaade, o ñaamataa
Transliteration: si gorko yiɗaa gollaade, o ñaamataa
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Diligent Labor
Original: εἴ τις οὐ θέλει ἐργάζεσθαι μηδὲ ἐσθιέτω
Category: Church
New term. Established community discipline principle cited as apostolic tradition (3:10), addressing idle believers; confirm register with native speakers.
Admonish As Brother
Approved rendering: wagginde ka jokkondiral musiɗɗo
Transliteration: wagginde ka jokkondiral musiɗɗo
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Diligent Labor
Original: νουθετεῖτε ὡς ἀδελφόν
Category: Church
New term. Corrective but familial, restorative discipline (3:15), not punitive expulsion. Must not read as formal excommunication or as parallel to informal social exclusion practices familiar from regional Islamic community norms; goal is restoration.
Confidence In The Lord
Approved rendering: hoolaare e Joom
Transliteration: hoolaare e Joom
Doctrine: God’s Faithfulness and Protection
Original: πεποίθαμεν ἐν κυρίῳ
Category: Faith
New term reusing hoolaare (trust), listed in the baseline as an acceptable supporting synonym for faith. Paul’s settled confidence (3:4) that the church will heed his instruction, grounded in the Lord’s own character.
Word Of The Lord Advance
Approved rendering: kuwtal Linjiila jaawnaa, jogo manaango
Transliteration: kuwtal Linjiila jaawnaa, jogo manaango
Doctrine: Prayer and the Advance of the Gospel
Original: ὁ λόγος τοῦ κυρίου τρέχῃ καὶ δοξάζηται
Category: Mission
New term. Prayer for the unimpeded advance and honoring of the gospel message (3:1); vivid metaphor for the gospel’s unhindered, honored spread.
Delivered From Evil Men
Approved rendering: daɗde e yimɓe bonɓe
Transliteration: daɗde e yimɓe bonɓe
Doctrine: Prayer and the Advance of the Gospel
Original: ῥυσθῶμεν ἀπὸ τῶν ἀτόπων καὶ πονηρῶν ἀνθρώπων
Category: Perseverance
New term. Prayer for protection from active persecutors of the gospel mission (3:2); should not be over-specified beyond the text’s own generality.
Love Abounding
Approved rendering: giggol
Transliteration: giggol
Doctrine: Thanksgiving for Growing Faith and Love
New term. Mutual love within the church, a fruit of faith (1:3, ‘love abounding’). Confirm regional theological currency with native speakers; distinct from more possessive/reciprocal connotations giggol could carry in some contexts.
Low Risk Terms
Exhort
Approved rendering: wallitde
Transliteration: wallitde
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Original: παρακαλέω
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Used of ‘comfort your hearts’ (2:17) and general mutual encouragement (3:12-13 register).
Thanksgiving
Approved rendering: yettoore
Transliteration: yettoore
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Original: εὐχαριστία
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. Standard term for Paul’s thanksgiving over the church’s growing faith and love (1:3).
Busybodies
Approved rendering: wakkilaare
Transliteration: wakkilaare
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Diligent Labor
Original: περιεργαζομένους
Category: Church
New term. Idleness expressing itself as meddlesome interference rather than productive work (3:11).
Work Quietly
Approved rendering: golle e deeƴre
Transliteration: golle e deeƴre
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Diligent Labor
Original: μετὰ ἡσυχίας ἐργαζόμενοι
Category: Church
New term. Calm, undisruptive, diligent labor, the positive alternative to busybody idleness (3:12). deeƴre is used appropriately here (literal calm conduct), unlike its rejection in the baseline as a substitute for the doctrinal ‘peace’ term (jam).
Sign Authenticating Mark
Approved rendering: maande
Transliteration: maande
Doctrine: Authenticity and Trustworthiness of Apostolic Teaching
Original: σημεῖον ἐν πάσῃ ἐπιστολῇ
Category: Church
New term. Paul’s personal handwriting as an authenticating mark against forged letters (3:17); connects back to 2:2’s warning about a spurious letter, an important literary bracket for the whole book.
