Core Glossary
Core Glossary: Revelation (Sanskrit Language Package)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, drawn from every chapter of Revelation (1–22), with the core passage (21:1–8) as theological anchor. It extends, and does not contradict, the baseline Romans translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json. Terms already fixed by that baseline are marked [BASELINE — REUSE EXACTLY] and are not re-litigated here; only their reuse is confirmed. All new entries below are proposed Revelation-specific additions to translation memory, pending Phase 1 Step 2 doctrine-registry ratification and Phase 2 human-theologian review for every Critical/High entry.

B. New Revelation-Specific Terms
| # | English Term | Greek | Sanskrit | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine Category | Rejected Alternatives | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Revelation (title) | ἀποκάλυψις | प्रकाशः | prakāśaḥ | High | Inspiration/Apocalyptic Interpretation | रहस्योद्घाटनम् | Avoid Tantric guhya-vidyā secret-initiation framing and Advaitic self-revelation (avidyā-removal) framing; historical divine disclosure through a commissioned witness. |
| 2 | Lamb | ἀρνίον | मेषशावकः | meṣaśāvakaḥ | Critical | Return/Reign of Christ; Worship of the Lamb | — | Never taught as parallel to animal-form avatāras (Matsya, Varāha, Narasiṃha); a symbolic Passover-typology title for the one incarnate Son, not a second animal-form assumption. |
| 3 | Beast (Antichrist figure) | θηρίον | पशुः | paśuḥ | High | Judgment of the Wicked | — | Generic term; must be sharply distinguished from मेषशावकः as its diabolical parody. |
| 4 | Dragon | δράκων | महासर्पः | mahāsarpaḥ | Critical | Sovereignty of God / Final Victory over Evil | नागः | नाग explicitly rejected: nāgas are revered/benevolent serpent-beings in Hindu, Buddhist, Jain tradition (Ananta-Śeṣa, Vāsuki, Nāgapañcamī). |
| 5 | Serpent (ancient) | ὄφις | सर्पः | sarpaḥ | Critical | Sovereignty of God / Final Victory over Evil | नागः | Same reasoning as Dragon; distinguish from Ananta-Śeṣa/Vāsuki. |
| 6 | Michael (archangel) | Μιχαήλ | मीखाएलः | mīkhāelaḥ | High | Sovereignty of God | — | Must be taught as a created, subordinate angel under God’s command, not an independent divine warrior comparable to Indra (Vṛtrahan myth), Durgā (Mahiṣāsura-slaying), or Skanda/Kārtikeya. |
| 7 | Devil / Satan | Διάβολος / Σατανᾶς | अपवादकः / शैतानः | apavādakaḥ / śaitānaḥ | Medium | Final Victory over Evil | — | Proper-title transliteration + descriptive “slanderer.” |
| 8 | Throne (of God) | θρόνος | सिंहासनम् | siṃhāsanam | Medium | Sovereignty of God | — | Minor incidental Narasiṃha (lion-avatāra) resonance; not severe. |
| 9 | Worship (verb) | προσκυνέω | नमस्कारः / प्रणामः | praṇāmaḥ | Critical | Worship of the Lamb | पूजा, आराधना | पूजा rejected: names the specific ritual sequence of Hindu image-worship (dhūpa, dīpa, naivedya, etc.); every occurrence requires an exclusivity note (worship of God/Lamb alone, cf. angel’s refusal, 19:10; 22:9). |
| 10 | Seal (God’s protective mark) | σφραγίς | मुद्रा | mudrā | High | Judgment / Vindication of Saints | — | Also names ritual Tantric/Haṭha-Yoga hand-gestures (a distinct technical sense); “on the forehead” (7:3) closely parallels तिलक sectarian forehead-marking — must be taught as supernatural ownership-mark, not ritual sect-identity mark. |
| 11 | Mark (of the beast) | χάραγμα | चिह्नम् | cihnam | High | Judgment of the Wicked | मुद्रा (deliberately different word) | Negative counterpart to God’s seal; kept lexically distinct from मुद्रा; intersects the same तिलक-adjacent risk. |
| 12 | Trumpet | σάλπιγξ | तूर्यम् | tūryam | Medium | Symbolic/Apocalyptic Interpretation | शङ्खः | शङ्ख rejected: specifically evokes Viṣṇu’s conch Pāñcajanya and ritual conch-blowing. |
| 13 | Bowl (of wrath/incense) | φιάλη | पात्रम् | pātram | Medium | Judgment of the Wicked | — | Minor kalaśa (ritual vessel) resonance; same word deliberately reused for both worship-incense (Ch.5) and wrath (Ch.16). |
| 14 | Plague | πληγή | विपत्तिः | vipattiḥ | Medium | Judgment of the Wicked | दण्डः | दण्ड avoided to prevent over-identification with Yama’s specific mythological rod of punishment. |
| 15 | Wrath (of God/Lamb) | ὀργή | क्रोधः | krodhaḥ | High | Judgment of the Wicked | — | Note the paradox of “wrath of the Lamb” (6:16); avoid रुद्र-derived vocabulary. |
| 16 | Overcome / Conquer | νικάω | विजयी / जयति | vijayī / jayati | Medium-High | Perseverance and Faithful Witness | — | Victory secured through the Lamb’s blood and testimony (12:11), not self-achieved siddhi or jñāna-mārga Self-realization. |
| 17 | Witness / Martyr | μάρτυς | साक्षी | sākṣī | Critical | Perseverance and Faithful Witness | — | साक्षिन् is Sāṃkhya/Vedānta’s passive, non-agentive Witness-consciousness (puruṣa/ātman observing prakṛti); biblical witness is active, verbal, costly testimony even unto death — categorically opposite. Mandatory note every occurrence. |
| 18 | Tribulation | θλῖψις | संतापः | santāpaḥ | High | Perseverance and Faithful Witness | क्लेशः | क्लेशः explicitly rejected: Patañjali’s precisely theorized five ignorance-rooted psychological afflictions (YS 2.3), eliminated through yogic discipline — not externally-imposed persecution suffered for faithfulness to Christ. |
| 19 | Perseverance / Endurance | ὑπομονή | सहिष्णुता | sahiṣṇutā | Medium | Perseverance and Faithful Witness | धृतिः | धृति is a component of a dharma-ethics virtue-list (Manusmṛti); prefer सहिष्णुता; endurance rooted in hope of Christ’s return, not stoic dharmic virtue performed for merit. |
| 20 | Alpha and Omega / “who is, was, coming” | τὸ Ἄλφα καὶ τὸ Ὦ / ὁ ὢν καὶ ὁ ἦν καὶ ὁ ἐρχόμενος | अल्फा-ओमेगा (गlossed आदिः अन्तः च) | ādiḥ antaḥ ca | High | Sovereignty of God over History | — | Must be anchored to the personal, triune God/Christ’s linear historical sovereignty, not an impersonal Vedāntic anādi-ananta Absolute (sat) outside time. |
| 21 | Almighty | παντοκράτωρ | सर्वसमर्थः | sarvasamarthaḥ | High | Sovereignty of God over History | सर्वशक्तिमान् | Built on सामर्थ्यम् (baseline “power_of_god” term), never शक्ति (Śākta hypostasized goddess-power). |
| 22 | Bride (of the Lamb) | νύμφη | वधूः | vadhūḥ | High | Church as Bride of Christ | — | Corporate, singular Bride at one eschatological wedding; distinguish from Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava madhura-rasa gopī-bhāva bridal-mysticism (individual soul as one of many devotee-consorts). |
| 23 | Marriage / Wedding | γάμος | विवाहः | vivāhaḥ | Medium | Church as Bride of Christ | — | |
| 24 | New Jerusalem | Ἰερουσαλὴμ καινή | नूतना यरूशालम् | nūtanā yarūśālam | Medium | New Heaven and New Earth | — | Proper name; requires OT background note. |
| 25 | New (heaven/earth/etc.) | καινός | नूतनम् | nūtanam | Critical | New Heaven and New Earth | — | Must be distinguished from Puranic cyclical sṛṣṭi-pralaya cosmology (endless kalpa-cycles); this renewal is single, final, non-repeating. |
| 26 | Sea (chaos symbol) | θάλασσα | समुद्रः | samudraḥ | Medium | New Heaven and New Earth | — | No positive Puranic “sea=chaos” counterpart (samudra-manthan is cosmogonic/beneficial); note the reversal. |
| 27 | Tabernacle / Dwell | σκηνή / σκηνόω | निवासः | nivāsaḥ | Medium | New Heaven and New Earth | — | Distinguish from Vedic ritual āhvāna (temporary deity-invocation); this is permanent relational dwelling. |
| 28 | Death (personified) | θάνατος | मृत्युः | mṛtyuḥ | Critical | Judgment / Final Victory over Evil | यमः | यम explicitly rejected: an enduring, richly mythologized deity of an ongoing underworld realm; biblical “Death” is a temporary personification, finally abolished (20:14). |
| 29 | Hades | ᾍδης | हादेस् | hādes | Critical | Judgment of the Wicked | नरकः, पातालम् | Both नरक (temporary karmic purgation realm) and पाताल (specific Puranic cosmological nether-realm, home of nāgas) rejected; transliteration preferred, following the मसीहः precedent. |
| 30 | Lake of Fire | λίμνη τοῦ πυρός | अग्निसरोवरम् | agnisarovaram | High | Judgment of the Wicked | कुण्डम् | कुण्ड rejected: names a sanctified Vedic/Tantric ritual homa fire-pit; also distinguish from नरक’s temporary punitive fire. |
| 31 | Second Death | ὁ θάνατος ὁ δεύτερος | द्वितीयः मृत्युः | dvitīyaḥ mṛtyuḥ | Critical | Judgment of the Wicked | — | Numbers one fixed, final, unrepeatable event — the opposite of an open-ended punarjanma death-rebirth series. |
| 32 | Book of Life | βιβλίον τῆς ζωῆς | जीवनग्रन्थः | jīvanagranthaḥ | High | Judgment / Vindication of Saints | — | Distinguish from Citragupta’s karmic ledger (a deeds-based tally for Yama’s judgment); this is a grace-based registry fixed before creation (13:8; 17:8). |
| 33 | Final Judgment / Verdict | κρίσις (great white throne scene) | अन्तिमनिर्णयः | antimanirṇayaḥ | High | Judgment of the Wicked | न्यायः, विचारः | न्याय rejected as a darśana-name (per baseline “righteousness”/“justification” reasoning); reuses निर्णय root already established for “justification,” positively repurposed for the final verdict. |
| 34 | Thousand Years / Millennium | χίλια ἔτη | सहस्रवर्षाणि | sahasravarṣāṇi | Medium | Return and Reign of Christ | — | Distinguish from the endlessly-repeating catur-yuga cycle; a bounded period within linear eschatology. |
| 35 | Armageddon | Ἁρμαγεδών | हर्मगिद्दोन् | harmagiddon | Medium-High | Final Victory over Evil | — | Resonance with Kurukṣetra (Mahābhārata/Gītā battlefield) is useful but must be qualified: one-sided divine judgment, not a morally complex two-sided war. |
| 36 | Four Living Creatures | τὰ τέσσαρα ζῷα | चत्वारि जीवानि | catvāri jīvāni | Medium | Worship of the Lamb | — | Distinguish from deity vāhanas (Garuḍa/Viṣṇu, Nandi/Śiva) and four-faced Brahmā; created worshippers, not deity-mounts. |
| 37 | Elders (24) | πρεσβύτεροι | प्राचीनाः | prācīnāḥ | Low | Worship of the Lamb | — | |
| 38 | New Song | ᾆσμα καινόν | नूतनं गीतम् | nūtanaṃ gītam | Low-Medium | Worship of the Lamb | — | Minor incidental Bhagavad Gītā (“the Song”) resonance; unavoidable, note only. |
| 39 | Incense (=prayers) | θυμίαμα | धूपः | dhūpaḥ | Critical | Worship of the Lamb | — | Part of a Critical convergence risk with the full pūjā-upacāra sequence (bowls, incense, prostration, harps, white robes); teach as a unique, unrepeatable heavenly scene, never a pūjā template. |
| 40 | Harp | κιθάρα | वीणा | vīṇā | Low-Medium | Worship of the Lamb | — | Minor Sarasvatī association; cultural note only. |
| 41 | Crown / Wreath | στέφανος | मुकुटः | mukuṭaḥ | Low-Medium | Perseverance and Faithful Witness | — | |
| 42 | Key (of David / of Death-Hades / of the Abyss) | κλείς | कुञ्चिका | kuñcikā | Medium | Return and Reign of Christ | — | Ties to baseline’s High-risk Davidic Covenant doctrine where paired with दाविद्. |
| 43 | Lampstand | λυχνία | दीपाधारः | dīpādhāraḥ | Low | Church as Bride of Christ (churches) | — | |
| 44 | Morning Star | ἀστὴρ ὁ πρωϊνός | प्रभातनक्षत्रम् | prabhātanakṣatram | High | Return and Reign of Christ | शुक्रतारा | शुक्र rejected: names Venus as a specific Puranic planetary deity (Śukrācārya, navagraha), a rival named mythological figure. |
| 45 | Rod of Iron | ῥάβδος σιδηρᾶ | लौहदण्डः | lohadaṇḍaḥ | Medium | Return and Reign of Christ | — | दण्ड usefully resonates with royal/judicial authority but risks over-identification with Yama’s specific rod. |
| 46 | Sharp Sword (from the mouth) | ῥομφαία | खड्गः | khaḍgaḥ | Low-Medium | Judgment of the Wicked | — | Minor Durgā/Kālī sword-iconography resonance; not severe. |
| 47 | Sea of Glass | θάλασσα ὑαλίνη | स्फटिकसमुद्रः | sphaṭikasamudraḥ | Low | Worship of the Lamb | — | |
| 48 | White Robes | στολή λευκή | श्वेतवस्त्राणि | śvetavastrāṇi | Medium | Vindication of the Saints | — | Distinguish from sannyāsin renunciate dress; symbolizes imputed righteousness and victory. |
| 49 | Blood-Washed Robes | πλύνω… ἐν τῷ αἵματι τοῦ ἀρνίου | रक्तेण प्रक्षालितवस्त्राणि | raktena prakṣālitavastrāṇi | High | Vindication of the Saints | — | Deliberate reversal of dharmaśāstra ritual-purity logic (blood ordinarily defiles, requiring śuddhi); here blood purifies. |
| 50 | Tree of Life | ξύλον τῆς ζωῆς | जीवनवृक्षः | jīvanavṛkṣaḥ | Critical | New Heaven and New Earth | — | Distinguish from the Gītā 15:1-3 Aśvattha (to be axed, representing saṃsāra-bondage) and from the Puranic kalpavṛkṣa (wish-granting, not communion-granting). |
| 51 | River / Water of Life | ποταμὸς / ὕδωρ τῆς ζωῆς | जीवनजलनदी / जीवनजलम् | jīvanajalanadī / jīvanajalam | High | New Heaven and New Earth | अमृतम् | अमृत rejected: names the mythologically-churned (samudra-manthan) nectar of deathlessness; this is a personal, relational, freely-given gift, not a churned substance. |
| 52 | Eternal Life | ζωή (αἰώνιος) | अनन्तं जीवनम् | anantaṃ jīvanam | High | New Heaven and New Earth | मोक्षः, मुक्तिः, जीवन्मुक्तिः | Extends baseline’s Critical salvation-entry rejection of मोक्ष/मुक्ति to “life” language; must not be assimilated to jīvanmukti (“liberation while living”). |
| 53 | Curse (undone) | κατάρα | शापः | śāpaḥ | Low-Medium | New Heaven and New Earth | — | Clarify as the one Genesis 3 curse, not one of many mythological curses. |
| 54 | Reward | μισθός | प्रतिफलम् | pratiphalam | High | Perseverance / Assurance | फलम् (bare) | Must be explicitly contrasted with कर्मफलम् (automatic karmic fruit); Christ’s personal, gracious bestowal tied to, but not earned independent of, grace. |
| 55 | Worthy | ἄξιος | योग्यः | yogyaḥ | Low | Worship of the Lamb | — | |
| 56 | Woman (Rev 12) | γυνή | स्त्री | strī | High | Sovereignty of God / Final Victory over Evil | — | Risk of Devī/Durgā iconographic assimilation (cf. baseline’s Durgā-tejas caution); she is protected, not herself a warrior-deity. |
| 57 | Harlot / Babylon | πόρνη / Βαβυλών | वेश्या / बाबिलोन् | veśyā / bābilon | Medium | Judgment of the Wicked | — | Requires OT background note (Gen 11, Daniel, Ezek 16/23); primarily a cultural-sensitivity, not philosophical-collision, risk. |
| 58 | False Prophet | ψευδοπροφήτης | मृषाभविष्यद्वक्ता | mṛṣābhaviṣyadvaktā | Medium | Judgment of the Wicked | — | Compound extension of baseline भविष्यद्वक्ता. |
| 59 | Abyss / Bottomless Pit | ἄβυσσος | अगाधकूपः | agādhakūpaḥ | High | Sovereignty of God / Final Victory over Evil | पातालम् | पाताल rejected: names the specific Puranic seventh nether-world and nāga-loka; use a descriptive compound instead. |
| 60 | Image of the Beast | εἰκὼν τοῦ θηρίου | प्रतिमा | pratimā | Critical | Worship of the Lamb / Judgment | — | Same word as a consecrated Hindu devotional mūrti; scope must be explicitly narrowed to this specific eschatological idol, never generalized into commentary on image-veneration as such. |
| 61 | Word of God (Christ’s title) | ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ | वचनम् (परमेश्वरस्य) | vacanam | Critical | Return and Reign of Christ / Incarnation | शब्दः | शब्द rejected: Mīmāṃsā’s technical term for the eternal, uncreated, impersonal Vedic sound-principle (śabda-nityatva); would collapse Christ’s personal title into an impersonal cosmological category. |
| 62 | King of Kings, Lord of Lords | βασιλεὺς βασιλέων καὶ κύριος κυρίων | राजाधिराजः | rājādhirājaḥ | High | Return and Reign of Christ | — | Existing Sanskrit royal title, useful but must be qualified as absolute/sole (not merely superlative-among-many) sovereignty. |
| 63 | Mystery (of God) | μυστήριον | रहस्यम् | rahasyam | High | Inspiration of Scripture / Universal Scope of Gospel | — | Contrast with initiatory-esoteric rahasya/guhya-vidyā literature; biblical mystery is once-hidden, now openly proclaimed to all. |
| 64 | Priests (all believers) | ἱερεῖς | याजकाः | yājakāḥ | High | Church as Bride of Christ | — | Distinguish from hereditary, varṇa-based Brahmin priesthood; every believer has direct access. |
| 65 | Firstborn from the Dead | πρωτότοκος τῶν νεκρῶν | ज्येष्ठपुत्रः मृतानाम् | jyeṣṭhaputraḥ mṛtānām | Medium-High | Return and Reign of Christ | — | Resurrection-order primacy, not ontological derivation; must not soften Christ’s eternal, uncreated Sonship. |
| 66 | Foundation (of the city) | θεμέλιος | आधारशिला | ādhāraśilā | Low | New Heaven and New Earth | — | |
| 67 | Gate (of the city) | πύλη | द्वारम् | dvāram | Low | New Heaven and New Earth | — | |
| 68 | Serve / Worship (cultic service) | λατρεύω | सेवा | sevā | Medium | Worship of the Lamb | — | Positive bhakti-sevā resonance; object must remain exclusively the one true God/Lamb. |
| 69 | Manna (hidden) | μάννα | मान्ना | mānnā | Low | Return and Reign of Christ (letters) | — | Proper noun; OT background required. |
| 70 | Ark of the Covenant | κιβωτὸς τῆς διαθήκης | संविदः पेटिका | saṃvidaḥ peṭikā | Medium | Sovereignty of God over History | — | Reuse baseline संविद्. |
| 71 | Temple (God/Lamb as the temple, positive use) | ναός (21:22) | मन्दिरम् | mandiram | Medium | New Heaven and New Earth | — | Deliberately reused despite baseline’s rejection of मन्दिर for “church” — here the verse’s own rhetorical point (no temple needed; God himself is the temple) makes direct, correct contact with मन्दिर-centered vocabulary. |
| 72 | Altar | θυσιαστήριον | बलिपीठम् | balipīṭham | Medium | Judgment / Vindication of Saints | — | Evokes Vedic yajña-altar imagery; heavenly, symbolic, not an ongoing ritual site. |
| 73 | Winepress (of wrath) | ληνός | द्राक्षायन्त्रम् | drākṣāyantram | Low-Medium | Judgment of the Wicked | कुण्डम् | कुण्ड avoided for the same reason as the lake of fire. |
| 74 | Forever and Ever | εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων | सदा सर्वदा / अनन्तकालपर्यन्तम् | sadā sarvadā / anantakālaparyantam | Critical | Assurance of Final Victory | युगे युगे | युगे युगे explicitly rejected: the exact phrase of Bhagavad Gītā 4:8 for Kṛṣṇa’s periodic avatāra-appearances; would reactivate the incarnation/avatāra Critical collision in an unrelated context. |
| 75 | Second Coming (doctrinal category) | ἔρχομαι ταχύ (as a doctrine) | द्वितीयागमनम् | dvitīyāgamanam | Critical | Return and Reign of Christ | पुनरागमनम् | पुनर्- prefix rejected for the same reason as पुनर्जन्म (“resurrection”): risks a repeated/cyclical-descent reading; द्वितीय (“second,” a fixed numbered event) preferred, paralleling द्वितीयः मृत्युः. |
| 76 | Idolater | εἰδωλολάτρης | मिथ्यादेवाराधकः | mithyādevārādhakaḥ | Critical | Worship of the Lamb (core passage, 21:8) | प्रतिमापूजकः | प्रतिमापूजक rejected: would render the verse as a direct description of mainstream Hindu mūrti-pūjā devotional vocabulary. Shifts predicate to falseness of the object worshipped, not the ritual act itself. Highest-sensitivity term in the core passage. |
| 77 | Sorcerer | φαρμακός | ऐन्द्रजालिकः | aindrajālikaḥ | Medium | Judgment of the Wicked (core passage, 21:8) | — | Mild इन्द्रजाल (“Indra’s net”/illusion) mythological color; not severe. |
| 78 | Unbelieving | ἄπιστος | अविश्वासिनः | aviśvāsinaḥ | Medium | Faith (negation of baseline term) | — | Direct negation of baseline विश्वासः; consistency required. |
| 79 | Fearful / Cowardly | δειλός | भीरवः | bhīravaḥ | Low | Perseverance and Faithful Witness (core passage, 21:8) | — | Those who deny the faith under persecution’s pressure. |
C. Methodological Note: Symbolic and Apocalyptic Numbers
Per the curriculum doctrine “Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation,” the following numbers recur as symbolic, not literal-arithmetic, values throughout Revelation and must be taught with this interpretive key attached wherever they occur: 7 (completeness/perfection — churches, seals, trumpets, bowls, heads); 12 (the covenant people, OT and NT — tribes, apostles, gates, foundations, and their multiples as in 144,000); 10 (totality of earthly power — horns); 4 (totality of the created earth — living creatures, corners of the earth); 1000 (a vast or complete but bounded magnitude — the millennium, 144,000’s multiplier); 666 (a number of conspicuous incompleteness, falling short of the perfection of 7). This principle governs Chapters 1, 4–5, 7, 11–13, 17, and 20 especially, and should be recorded as a standing cross-cutting interpretive rule in the forthcoming doctrine risk registry, not merely repeated at each individual occurrence.
D. Cross-Reference to Baseline Forbidden-Substitution List
All forbidden substitutions fixed in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md (never मोक्ष/मुक्ति/निर्वाण for salvation; never पुनर्जन्म for resurrection; never अवतारः for incarnation; never bare ईश्वरः/ब्रह्मन्/भगवान्/देवः for God; never शक्तिः for God’s power; never श्रद्धा/भक्तिः for faith; never bare आत्मा without पवित्र for Holy Spirit) remain in force throughout Revelation and are extended by this document with the following additional forbidden substitutions specific to Revelation:
- Never नागः for dragon/serpent (Satan) — use महासर्पः / सर्पः
- Never यमः for personified Death — use मृत्युः
- Never नरकः or पातालम् for Hades or the Abyss — use हादेस् (transliteration) / अगाधकूपः
- Never शब्दः for the Word of God (Christ’s title) — use वचनम्
- Never युगे युगे for “forever and ever” — use सदा सर्वदा / अनन्तकालपर्यन्तम्
- Never पुनरागमनम् for the Second Coming — use द्वितीयागमनम्
- Never कुण्डम् for the lake of fire or the winepress of wrath — use अग्निसरोवरम् / द्राक्षायन्त्रम्
- Never क्लेशः for tribulation/affliction — use संतापः
- Never शुक्रतारा for the morning star — use प्रभातनक्षत्रम्
- Never अमृतम् for the water/river of life — use जीवनजलम्
- Never प्रतिमापूजकः for idolater — use मिथ्यादेवाराधकः
This glossary should be loaded alongside the baseline translation_memory.json before any Phase 2 segment translation of Revelation, and its Critical/High entries routed for mandatory human-theologian review per the forthcoming 09_doctrine_risk_registry.md.
Critical Risk Terms
Salvation
Approved rendering: त्राणम्
Transliteration: trāṇam
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: मोक्षः, मुक्तिः, निर्वाणम्
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Never moksha/mukti/nirvana. Celebrated in heavenly acclamation (7:10; 12:10; 19:1) as rescue by the Lamb’s blood, not Self-realized liberation from samsara.
God
Approved rendering: सर्वेश्वरः
Transliteration: sarveśvaraḥ
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वरः, ब्रह्मन्, भगवान्, देवः
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Especially critical in Revelation’s repeated direct worship-scenes (chs. 4-5, 7, 11, 15, 19), which are saturated with exclusivity claims.
Lord
Approved rendering: प्रभुः
Transliteration: prabhuḥ
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ईश्वरः, स्वामी
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Culminates in ‘King of kings and Lord of lords’ (17:14; 19:16); never ishvarah, per Advaita-subordination reasoning.
Jesus
Approved rendering: यीशुः
Transliteration: yīśuḥ
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. The faithful witness (1:5) whose testimony structures the whole book.
Christ
Approved rendering: ख्रीष्टः
Transliteration: khrīṣṭaḥ
Doctrine: Deity and Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: मसीहः (used only for the OT-facing ‘Messiah’ concept)
New to Revelation’s translation memory (not separately entered in the Romans baseline, which used ‘messiah’ for Christos/Mashiach). Follows the Serampore Sanskrit New Testament (1808) precedent per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md transliteration standards. Used constantly as ‘Jesus Christ’ (1:1,1:2,1:5) and ‘his Christ’ (11:15; 12:10).
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: पवित्र आत्मा
Transliteration: pavitra ātmā
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ब्रह्मन्, परमात्मा
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον / ἑπτὰ πνεύματα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Revelation describes the Spirit symbolically as ‘the seven Spirits of God’ (1:4; 4:5; 5:6) — sevenfold PERFECT FULLNESS of the one Spirit, never a plurality of spirit-beings/devata-multiplicity. Mandatory ATMAN-BRAHMAN personhood note applies at every occurrence, including this numbered form.
Righteousness
Approved rendering: धार्मिकता
Transliteration: dhārmikatā
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: धर्मः, न्यायः, पुण्यम्
Original: δικαιοσύνη / δικαιώματα
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. The ‘righteous deeds of the saints’ clothe the Bride in fine linen (19:8); always paired with the mandatory redefinition against dharma’s varnashrama weight.
Imputed Righteousness
Approved rendering: आरोपिता धार्मिकता
Transliteration: āropitā dhārmikatā
Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: अर्जिता धार्मिकता
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Conceptually underlies Revelation 19:8’s righteous deeds/fine-linen imagery and 21:27’s Book-of-Life admission; credited, not self-earned, standing.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: पुनरुत्थानम्
Transliteration: punarutthānam
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: पुनर्जन्म
Original: ἀνάστασις
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Never punarjanma. Covers the ‘first resurrection’ of the martyrs (20:5-6) and the general bodily resurrection at judgment (20:12-13); the ‘first’ numbering deliberately parallels the द्वितीयः pattern (second death/second coming) to signal a bounded, non-cyclical event.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: देहधारणम्
Transliteration: dehadhāraṇam
Doctrine: Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: अवतारः
Original: (implied: ὁ λόγος σὰρξ ἐγένετο, cf. the Lamb’s slain-and-risen body and the rider called ‘the Word of God,’ 19:13)
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Never avataarah. Presupposed by the Lamb imagery and the incarnate ‘Word of God’ rider (19:13); must be paired, wherever Lamb/Word-of-God titles occur, with the Gita 4:7-8 distinction.
Lamb
Approved rendering: मेषशावकः
Transliteration: meṣaśāvakaḥ
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb / Sonship of Christ as the Incarnate Lamb
Original: ἀρνίον
Category: Christology
The book’s dominant Christological title (28x). Must never be taught as parallel to Vishnu’s animal-form avataras (Matsya, Varaha, Narasimha, per the dashavatara list). A symbolic Passover-typology title for the one incarnate Son (देहधारणम्), not a second animal-form divine assumption. Highest-frequency Critical term in the book; requires restatement at intervals, not one-time notation.
Dragon
Approved rendering: महासर्पः
Transliteration: mahāsarpaḥ
Doctrine: Cosmic Conflict with Satan
Rejected alternatives: नागः
Original: δράκων
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
Never nagah: nagas are revered, often protective/benevolent semi-divine serpent-beings (Ananta-Shesha as Vishnu’s cosmic couch, Vasuki at Shiva’s neck, the festival Nagapanchami). Using naga for Satan risks an inverted, even honorific, reading of the book’s primary evil figure.
Serpent Ancient
Approved rendering: सर्पः
Transliteration: sarpaḥ
Doctrine: Cosmic Conflict with Satan
Rejected alternatives: नागः
Original: ὄφις (ὁ ἀρχαῖος)
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
Identifies the dragon with the Genesis 3 serpent. Same reasoning as dragon; must be distinguished from Ananta-Shesha/Vasuki.
Worship Verb
Approved rendering: नमस्कारः / प्रणामः
Transliteration: namaskāraḥ / praṇāmaḥ
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb
Rejected alternatives: पूजा, आराधना
Original: προσκυνέω
Category: Worship of the Lamb
Puja explicitly rejected: names the specific ritual sequence (upacara-sequence) of Hindu image-worship. Every occurrence requires an exclusivity note — worship of God/Lamb alone, refused even by God’s own angel-messenger (19:10; 22:8-9).
Witness Martyr
Approved rendering: साक्षी
Transliteration: sākṣī
Doctrine: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Original: μάρτυς / μαρτυρία
Category: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
HIGHEST-PRIORITY DIRECTIONAL-INVERSION RISK IN THIS PACKAGE. Sakshin is Samkhya/Vedanta’s precisely theorized passive, non-agentive Witness-consciousness (purusha/atman silently observing prakriti without acting) — the exact philosophical opposite of active, verbal, costly testimony even unto death (1:5; 2:13; 6:9; 11:3; 12:11; 17:6; 20:4). Mandatory note every single occurrence, no exceptions. Rev 12:11 is a Critical convergence verse (witness + overcome + Lamb’s blood) requiring mandatory theologian review.
New Kainos
Approved rendering: नूतनम्
Transliteration: nūtanam
Doctrine: The New Heaven and New Earth
Original: καινός
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
Qualitatively new (kainos), applied to heaven, earth, Jerusalem, name, song. Must be explicitly distinguished at EVERY occurrence from Puranic cyclical srishti-pralaya cosmology (endless kalpa-cycles within Brahma’s own lifespan); this renewal is single, final, and non-repeating. Highest-frequency Critical term in chs. 21-22; use one canonical footnote text reused verbatim, not independently reworded.
Death Personified
Approved rendering: मृत्युः
Transliteration: mṝtyuḥ
Doctrine: Death and Hades Abolished
Rejected alternatives: यमः
Original: θάνατος
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
Death personified, riding the pale horse (6:8), holding keys with Hades (1:18), finally abolished (20:14; 21:4). Never yamah: an enduring, richly mythologized deity presiding permanently over an ongoing underworld realm within samsara. Revelation’s Death is a temporary personification, finally and permanently destroyed — the opposite of an eternal cosmic office.
Hades
Approved rendering: हादेस्
Transliteration: hādes
Doctrine: Death and Hades Abolished
Rejected alternatives: नरकः, पातालम्
Original: ᾍδης
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The realm of the dead, paired with Death (1:18; 6:8; 20:13-14), ultimately destroyed. Never narakah (a temporary Puranic karmic-purgation realm from which souls are eventually released for rebirth) or patalam (the specific Puranic seventh nether-world and naga-loka). Transliteration preferred, following the masihah precedent.
Second Death
Approved rendering: द्वितीयः मृत्युः
Transliteration: dvitīyaḥ mṝtyuḥ
Doctrine: Judgment of the Wicked
Original: ὁ θάνατος ὁ δεύτερος
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The final, unrepeatable state of eternal separation (2:11; 20:6,14; 21:8, core passage). Must never be read against punarjanma (repeated death-and-rebirth across countless lives). ‘Second’ numbers a fixed, final, unrepeatable event — the only other death after the first (physical) death. Part of the द्वितीय- lexical family with द्वितीयागमनम्; note carefully that ‘second’ closes a two-item sequence, it does not open an indefinite series.
Incense Prayers
Approved rendering: धूपः
Transliteration: dhūpaḥ
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb
Original: θυμίαμα
Category: Worship of the Lamb
Incense as metaphor for the saints’ prayers (5:8; 8:3-4). Part of a Critical CONVERGENCE risk: combined with golden bowls, prostration, harps, and white-robed elders, this scene closely resembles the sixteen-upacara sequence of formal Hindu puja. Must be taught as a unique, unrepeatable depiction of worship of the true God, never a template validating parallel image-worship liturgy. Flag any segment combining 3+ of {नमस्कारः/प्रणामः, धूपः, पात्रम्, वीणा, श्वेतवस्त्राणि, सिंहासनम्} for mandatory theologian review as a unit.
Tree Of Life
Approved rendering: जीवनवृक्षः
Transliteration: jīvanavṝkṣaḥ
Doctrine: Eternal Life and the Tree of Life
Original: ξύλον τῆς ζωῆς
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
The restored Edenic tree (2:7; 22:2,14,19). Must be explicitly distinguished from (1) the Bhagavad Gita 15:1-3 Ashvattha, an eternal cosmic fig tree representing samsara-entanglement to be CUT DOWN with the axe of detachment — opposite valence; and (2) the Puranic kalpavriksha, a wish-fulfilling tree granting arbitrary desires rather than restored communion. Revelation’s tree is eaten from, not axed, and grants relational eternal life, not wishes. Mandatory dual-contrast note at every occurrence.
Image Of The Beast
Approved rendering: प्रतिमा
Transliteration: pratimā
Doctrine: Exclusive Worship and the Rejection of Idolatry
Original: εἰκὼν τοῦ θηρίου
Category: Worship of the Lamb
An idol/statue of the Antichrist figure, commanded to be worshipped (13:14-15; 14:9,11; 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; 20:4). Pratima is the standard technical term for a consecrated devotional murti; unavoidably resonates with murti-puja vocabulary. Must be taught with explicit, narrow scope: this specific end-times idol only, never a blanket verdict on image-veneration as a general devotional category.
Word Of God Title
Approved rendering: वचनम्
Transliteration: vacanam
Doctrine: The Word of God as Christ’s Title
Rejected alternatives: शब्दः
Original: ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Return and Reign of Christ
Christ’s title borne by the rider on the white horse (19:13). Shabdah explicitly rejected: Mimamsa’s precise technical term for the eternal, uncreated, impersonal sound-form of the Veda (shabda-nityatva, shabda-pramana). Using it would collapse Christ’s personal title into an impersonal cosmological principle. NOTE: this is a case where the philosophically ‘most natural’ Sanskrit word is the most dangerous; do not default to it.
Forever And Ever
Approved rendering: सदा सर्वदा / अनन्तकालपर्यन्तम्
Transliteration: sadā sarvadā / anantakālaparyantam
Doctrine: Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil
Rejected alternatives: युगे युगे
Original: εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων
Category: Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil
The redeemed’s/Christ’s unending reign (1:6; 11:15; 22:5). Yuge yuge EXPLICITLY FORBIDDEN: the exact phrase of Bhagavad Gita 4:8 for Krishna’s periodic, repeated avatara-appearances (‘sambhavami yuge yuge’). Using it would reactivate the incarnation/avatara Critical collision in this unrelated eschatological context. Never vary stylistically once fixed.
Second Coming
Approved rendering: द्वितीयागमनम्
Transliteration: dvitīyāgamanam
Doctrine: The Return and Reign of Christ / Imminence of Christ’s Second Coming
Rejected alternatives: पुनरागमनम्
Original: ἔρχομαι ταχύ (as a doctrinal category)
Category: Return and Reign of Christ
Christ’s promised, certain, imminent bodily return (1:7; 3:11; 22:7,12,20) as a doctrinal category; the verb itself is आगच्छामि क्षिप्रम् (‘I am coming swiftly’). Punaragamanam explicitly forbidden: the punar- prefix ties to the same repeated-rebirth field rejected for punarjanma, risking an avatara-style repeated-descent reading. Dvitiya (‘second,’ numbering one fixed event) used consistently, paralleling द्वितीयः मृत्युः.
Idolater
Approved rendering: मिथ्यादेवाराधकः
Transliteration: mithyādevārādhakaḥ
Doctrine: Exclusive Worship and the Rejection of Idolatry
Rejected alternatives: प्रतिमापूजकः
Original: εἰδωλολάτρης
Category: Worship of the Lamb
HIGHEST-SENSITIVITY TERM IN THE CORE PASSAGE (21:8; also 22:15; cf. 9:20). Pratimapujakah explicitly rejected: would render this as a direct description of mainstream Hindu murti-puja devotional vocabulary, using the exact terms (pratima, puja) devout image-worshippers use for their own devotion. Mithyadevaradhakah shifts the predicate to the FALSENESS OF THE OBJECT worshipped, not the ritual act itself. Mandatory translator note every occurrence, clarifying the referent is worship misdirected toward false/rival objects of ultimate devotion, not a verdict on image-based devotional forms as such.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: सुसमाचारः
Transliteration: susamācāraḥ
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: शुभवार्ता
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. In Revelation this is ‘the eternal gospel’ proclaimed by an angel with cosmic urgency (14:6) at history’s climax, not a philosophical teaching among the darshanas.
Grace
Approved rendering: अनुग्रहः
Transliteration: anugrahaḥ
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: कृपा, प्रसादः, पुण्यम्
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Frames Revelation’s opening and closing benediction (1:4; 22:21) as gift, not visionary merit or prasada’s ritual offering-return structure.
Faith
Approved rendering: विश्वासः
Transliteration: viśvāsaḥ
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: श्रद्धा, भक्तिः
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. In Revelation, faith is tested loyalty maintained under persecution unto death (2:13, 19; 13:10; 14:12), not Gita 17’s guna-classified shraddha.
Holy
Approved rendering: पवित्रम्
Transliteration: pavitram
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्धम्
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Applies to God (4:8 Trisagion), the city (21:2, 10), and believers; requires the same non-ritual-purity redefinition at every occurrence.
Saints
Approved rendering: पवित्राः जनाः
Transliteration: pavitrāḥ janāḥ
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: ऋषयः, संन्यासिनः
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. All persecuted/martyred believers (5:8; 8:3-4; 11:18; 13:7,10; 16:6; 17:6; 18:24; 19:8; 20:9), never an ascetic elite or seer-class.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: पवित्रीकरणम्
Transliteration: pavitrīkaraṇam
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: शुद्धिः
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Ongoing holiness maintained while awaiting Christ’s return (22:11, ‘let the holy still be holy’).
Glory
Approved rendering: महिमा
Transliteration: mahimā
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: तेजस्
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Object of unceasing heavenly worship (4:9,11; 5:12-13; 7:12; 21:23-24); never tejas (Devi Mahatmyam’s radiant-substance metaphysics).
Power Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरस्य सामर्थ्यम्
Transliteration: parameśvarasya sāmarthyam
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: शक्तिः
Original: δύναμις
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Celebrated in worship (5:12; 7:12; 11:17; 12:10; 19:1); never shakti (hypostasized Shakta goddess-power). Root for ‘almighty’ (सर्वसमर्थः) below.
Covenant
Approved rendering: संविद्
Transliteration: saṃvid
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: वाचा, नियमः
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. The heavenly ark of the covenant (11:19) signals covenant faithfulness openly vindicated.
Sin
Approved rendering: पापम्
Transliteration: pāpam
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: अधर्मः
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Believers freed from sins by Christ’s blood (1:5); Babylon’s sins remembered before God (18:5).
Revelation Title
Approved rendering: प्रकाशः
Transliteration: prakāśaḥ
Doctrine: Inspiration and Prophetic Authority of Apocalyptic Revelation
Rejected alternatives: रहस्योद्घाटनम्
Original: ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Apocalyptic Interpretation
The book’s title-word. Rahasyodghatanam rejected: suggests Tantric guhya-vidya secret-initiation. Also avoid Advaitic self-revelation (avidya-removal) framing. This is a historical, God-initiated disclosure to a commissioned witness (1:1-3).
Beast
Approved rendering: पशुः
Transliteration: paśuḥ
Doctrine: Judgment of the Wicked
Original: θηρίον
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The Antichrist figures (sea-beast, earth-beast/false prophet), the diabolical parody of the Lamb. Generic, non-mythological term; must be kept sharply distinct from मेषशावकः.
Michael
Approved rendering: मीखाएलः
Transliteration: mīkhāelaḥ
Doctrine: Angelic Ministry and Creatureliness
Rejected alternatives: देवसेनापतिः (generic ‘general of the gods’)
Original: Μιχαήλ
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
The archangel leading heaven’s armies (12:7). Must be taught as a created, subordinate angel under God’s command, never an independent divine warrior comparable to Indra (Vritrahan myth), Durga (Mahishasura-slaying), or Skanda/Kartikeya. A native functional-equivalent title was deliberately rejected because it would import that figure’s own rival mythological narrative; transliteration plus subordination note was judged safer.
Seal Mark Of God
Approved rendering: मुद्रा
Transliteration: mudrā
Doctrine: Sealing and Divine Ownership of Believers
Original: σφραγίς
Category: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints
God’s protective ownership-mark on the foreheads of the 144,000 (7:2-8; 9:4; 14:1). Also names ritual Tantric/Hatha-Yoga hand-gestures (a distinct sense, clarify at first occurrence). ‘On the forehead’ parallels tilaka sectarian forehead-marking — must be taught as a supernatural, invisible mark of divine ownership, not a ritual sect-identity mark applied by human hands.
Mark Of Beast
Approved rendering: चिह्नम्
Transliteration: cihnam
Doctrine: Mark of the Beast and False Allegiance
Rejected alternatives: मुद्रा (deliberately different word)
Original: χάραγμα
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The coerced allegiance-mark (13:16-18), the negative counterpart to God’s seal. Kept lexically distinct from मुद्रा by design; still intersects the same tilaka-adjacent forehead-marking risk.
Wrath
Approved rendering: क्रोधः
Transliteration: krodhaḥ
Doctrine: Divine Wrath and Justice
Rejected alternatives: रुद्र-derived vocabulary
Original: ὀργή
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
God’s/the Lamb’s judicial anger. Avoid Rudra-derived vocabulary that could import a distinct mythologized wrathful-deity figure. Preserve the deliberate paradox of ‘the wrath of the Lamb’ (6:16); do not smooth it away.
Overcome Conquer
Approved rendering: विजयी / जयति
Transliteration: vijayī / jayati
Doctrine: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Original: νικάω
Category: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
The refrain structuring the seven letters and the martyrs’ victory ‘by the blood of the Lamb’ (12:11). Victory secured through the Lamb’s blood and testimony, not a self-achieved yogic siddhi or jnana-marga Self-realization.
Tribulation
Approved rendering: संतापः
Transliteration: santāpaḥ
Doctrine: Tribulation and Suffering for Christ
Rejected alternatives: क्लेशः
Original: θλῖψις
Category: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Kleshah explicitly forbidden: Patanjali’s precisely theorized technical term (Yoga Sutra 2.3) for five internal, ignorance-rooted afflictions eliminated through yogic discipline. Biblical tribulation (1:9; 2:9-10; 7:14) is externally-imposed persecution suffered for faithfulness to Christ.
Alpha Omega
Approved rendering: अल्फा-ओमेगा (आदिः अन्तः च)
Transliteration: alphā-omegā (ādiḥ antaḥ ca)
Doctrine: Sovereignty of God over History
Original: τὸ Ἄλφα καὶ τὸ Ὦ / ὁ ὢν καὶ ὁ ἦν καὶ ὁ ἐρχόμενος
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
God’s/Christ’s title of absolute eternality (1:8; 21:6; 22:13). Must always remain grammatically bound to a personal first-person speech-act (‘I am…’), never rendered as a free-standing philosophical predicate, to avoid collapse into the impersonal Vedantic anadi-ananta (beginningless-endless) Absolute.
Almighty
Approved rendering: सर्वसमर्थः
Transliteration: sarvasamarthaḥ
Doctrine: Sovereignty of God over History
Rejected alternatives: सर्वशक्तिमान्
Original: παντοκράτωρ
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
God’s title used 9x in Revelation. Built on सामर्थ्यम् (baseline power_of_god term); never shakti (Shakta hypostasized goddess-power).
Bride
Approved rendering: वधूः
Transliteration: vadhūḥ
Doctrine: The Church as Bride of Christ
Original: νύμφη
Category: Church as Bride of Christ
The Church presented as Christ’s bride, prepared and adorned (19:7; 21:2,9; 22:17). Distinguish from Gaudiya Vaishnava madhura-rasa gopi-bhava bridal mysticism (individual soul as one of many devotee-consorts); one corporate Church as one Bride at one eschatological wedding.
Lake Of Fire
Approved rendering: अग्निसरोवरम्
Transliteration: agnisarovaram
Doctrine: The Lake of Fire and Eternal Punishment
Rejected alternatives: कुण्डम्
Original: λίμνη τοῦ πυρός
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The place of final judgment (19:20; 20:10,14-15; 21:8, core passage). Kundam explicitly rejected: names a sanctified Vedic/Tantric ritual homa fire-pit. Also distinguish from naraka’s temporary punitive fire.
Book Of Life
Approved rendering: जीवनग्रन्थः
Transliteration: jīvanagranthaḥ
Doctrine: The Book of Life and Divine Registry
Original: βιβλίον τῆς ζωῆς
Category: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints
God’s eternal registry, written before creation (3:5; 13:8; 17:8; 20:12,15; 21:27). Must be distinguished from Citragupta’s mythological ledger, a deeds-based karmic tally kept for Yama’s judgment determining rebirth; this is a grace-based registry, not a running merit/demerit account.
Final Judgment Verdict
Approved rendering: अन्तिमनिर्णयः
Transliteration: antimanirṇayaḥ
Doctrine: The Great White Throne Judgment
Rejected alternatives: न्यायः, विचारः
Original: κρίσις
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
God’s definitive verdict at the great white throne (20:11-15). Nyayah rejected as a darshana-name (per baseline righteousness/justification reasoning). Positively repurposes the nirnaya root already fixed for ‘justification.‘
Armageddon
Approved rendering: हर्मगिद्दोन्
Transliteration: harmagiddon
Doctrine: Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil
Original: Ἁρμαγεδών
Category: Assurance of God’s Final Victory over Evil
The symbolic site of the final gathering (16:16), judged at 19:19-21. Resonance with Kurukshetra (Mahabharata/Gita battlefield) is useful but must be qualified: unlike Kurukshetra’s morally complex two-sided kin-conflict, Armageddon depicts one-sided, certain divine judgment. Transliterated deliberately, not rendered as Kurukshetra, to avoid attaching the two-sided narrative.
Morning Star
Approved rendering: प्रभातनक्षत्रम्
Transliteration: prabhātanakṣatram
Doctrine: Return and Reign of Christ
Rejected alternatives: शुक्रतारा
Original: ἀστὴρ ὁ πρωϊνός
Category: Return and Reign of Christ
Christ’s messianic self-designation (2:28; 22:16). Shukratara explicitly rejected: names Venus as a specific Puranic planetary deity (Shukracharya, one of the navagraha and preceptor of the asuras) — a rival named mythological figure.
Blood Washed Robes
Approved rendering: रक्तेण प्रक्षालितवस्त्राणि
Transliteration: raktena prakṣālitavastrāṇi
Doctrine: Vindication of the Saints
Original: πλύνω τὰς στολὰς ἐν τῷ αἵματι τοῦ ἀρνίου
Category: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints
Garments cleansed by/in the Lamb’s blood (7:14). A deliberate reversal of dharmashastra ritual-purity codes, where blood ordinarily defiles and requires shuddhi purification; here blood is itself the purifying agent — must be taught explicitly.
River Water Of Life
Approved rendering: जीवनजलनदी / जीवनजलम्
Transliteration: jīvanajalanadī / jīvanajalam
Doctrine: The New Heaven and New Earth
Rejected alternatives: अमृतम्
Original: ποταμὸς / ὕδωρ τῆς ζωῆς
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
The life-giving river/spring flowing freely from God’s throne (21:6; 22:1-2). Amritam explicitly rejected: names the mythologically-churned (samudra-manthan) nectar of deathlessness, won through contested cosmic combat. This is a personal, relational, freely-given gift, not an impersonal churned substance.
Eternal Life
Approved rendering: अनन्तं जीवनम्
Transliteration: anantaṃ jīvanam
Doctrine: Eternal Life and the Tree of Life
Rejected alternatives: मोक्षः, मुक्तिः, जीवन्मुक्तिः
Original: ζωή (αἰώνιος)
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
Extends the baseline’s Critical salvation-entry rejection of moksha/mukti to ‘life’ language; must not be assimilated to jivanmukti (‘liberation while living’).
Reward
Approved rendering: प्रतिफलम्
Transliteration: pratiphalam
Doctrine: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: फलम् (bare)
Original: μισθός
Category: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Christ’s personal recompense at his coming (11:18; 22:12). Must be explicitly contrasted with karmaphalam (automatic impersonal fruit of karma); Christ’s personal, gracious bestowal, tied to but not independently earned apart from grace.
Woman Rev12
Approved rendering: स्त्री
Transliteration: strī
Doctrine: The Woman and the Dragon: Cosmic Conflict Narrative
Original: γυνή
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
The radiant, cosmically-adorned woman (sun, moon, stars; 12:1-6,13-17). Risk of strong iconographic assimilation to Devi/Durga imagery (cf. baseline’s Durga-tejas caution under ‘glory’). Must be explicitly clarified: she is protected by God and his angel, not herself a combative goddess-warrior; that role belongs to Michael and, ultimately, to Christ.
Abyss
Approved rendering: अगाधकूपः
Transliteration: agādhakūpaḥ
Doctrine: Sovereignty of God over History
Rejected alternatives: पातालम्
Original: ἄβυσσος
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
The prison-realm of the dragon and demonic locusts (9:1-11; 20:1-3). Patalam rejected: the specific Puranic seventh nether-world, also the abode of the revered nagas — would conflate the abyss with a partly-benevolent mythological realm.
King Of Kings Lord Of Lords
Approved rendering: राजाधिराजः
Transliteration: rājādhirājaḥ
Doctrine: Return and Reign of Christ
Original: βασιλεὺς βασιλέων καὶ κύριος κυρίων
Category: Return and Reign of Christ
Christ’s supreme title (17:14; 19:16). An existing, historically attested Sanskrit royal title, useful but must be explicitly qualified at first occurrence as absolute, sole, cosmic sovereignty — not merely the greatest among a hierarchy of kings.
Mystery Of God
Approved rendering: रहस्यम्
Transliteration: rahasyam
Doctrine: The Mystery of God Fulfilled
Original: μυστήριον τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation
God’s redemptive plan, once hidden, soon fully accomplished (10:7). Rahasyam is a major genre-term for esoteric teaching deliberately restricted to qualified initiates within a guru-lineage; biblical ‘mystery’ moves the opposite direction — once-hidden truth now openly proclaimed to all. Contrast must be explicit at every occurrence.
Priests Believers
Approved rendering: याजकाः
Transliteration: yājakāḥ
Doctrine: The Priesthood of All Believers
Original: ἱερεῖς
Category: Church as Bride of Christ
Believers made priests to God (1:6; 5:10; 20:6), not a hereditary/professional class. Yajakah is directly Vedic sacrificial vocabulary (root yaj) ordinarily restricted to a hereditary, varna-based Brahmin priesthood. The biblical doctrine deliberately DEMOCRATIZES this role; frame the note positively (every believer has direct access), not merely as exclusion of a wrong reading.
Firstborn From Dead
Approved rendering: ज्येष्ठपुत्रः मृतानाम्
Transliteration: jyeṣṭhaputraḥ mṝtānām
Doctrine: Return and Reign of Christ
Original: πρωτότοκος τῶν νεκρῶν
Category: Return and Reign of Christ
Christ’s resurrection primacy (1:5). Concerns resurrection-order, not ontological origin; must not imply created or derivative Sonship, contradicting the baseline’s Critical sonship_of_christ entry (परमेश्वरस्य पुत्रः).
Medium Risk Terms
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: परमेश्वरस्य राज्यम्
Transliteration: parameśvarasya rājyam
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ / τοῦ κόσμου… τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. Declared complete at the seventh trumpet (11:15) and consummated in the eternal state (22:5).
Israel
Approved rendering: इस्राएलः
Transliteration: isrāelaḥ
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Original: Ἰσραήλ
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. The twelve tribes, sealed (7:4-8) and named on the New Jerusalem’s gates (21:12).
David
Approved rendering: दाविद्
Transliteration: dāvid

Approved rendering: अन्यजातीयाः
Transliteration: anyajātīyāḥ
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: म्लेच्छाः
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. The nations/peoples, both as objects of judgment (11:18) and the redeemed multitude (5:9; 7:9; 21:24-26).
Apostle
Approved rendering: प्रेषितः
Transliteration: preṣitaḥ
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: गुरुः, ऋषिः
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. The twelve apostles named on the New Jerusalem’s foundations (21:14); false apostles tested at Ephesus (2:2).
Church
Approved rendering: मण्डली
Transliteration: maṇḍalī
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: मन्दिरम्, मठः
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package, reused exactly. The seven churches of Asia (chs. 2-3). Never mandiram or matha, though mandiram is separately and deliberately reused for ‘temple’ at 21:22 (see temple_god_as_temple below).
Devil Satan
Approved rendering: अपवादकः / शैतानः
Transliteration: apavādakaḥ / śaitānaḥ
Doctrine: Cosmic Conflict with Satan
Original: Διάβολος / Σατανᾶς
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
Proper titles of the personal, defeated enemy of God. Low collision risk beyond the dragon/serpent imagery already flagged Critical.
Throne
Approved rendering: सिंहासनम्
Transliteration: siṃhāsanam
Doctrine: Sovereignty of God over History
Original: θρόνος
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
The seat of God’s/the Lamb’s absolute sovereign authority, the book’s central recurring image. Minor incidental Narasimha (lion-avatara) resonance via the simha- element; not severe, note only.
Trumpet
Approved rendering: तूर्यम्
Transliteration: tūryam
Doctrine: Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation
Rejected alternatives: शङ्खः
Original: σάλπιγξ
Category: Symbolic and Apocalyptic Interpretation
Announces each of the seven judgments (chs. 8-11). Shankhah rejected: specifically evokes Vishnu’s conch Panchajanya and ritual conch-blowing (shankha-dhvani) at the start of Hindu worship.
Bowl
Approved rendering: पात्रम्
Transliteration: pātram
Doctrine: Judgment of the Wicked
Original: φιάλη
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The golden vessel used for both worship-incense (5:8) and outpoured wrath (ch. 16), a deliberate literary link. Minor kalasha (ritual vessel) resonance.
Plague
Approved rendering: विपत्तिः
Transliteration: vipattiḥ
Doctrine: Judgment of the Wicked
Rejected alternatives: दण्डः
Original: πληγή
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The trumpet/bowl judgments as divine, purposive strikes. Dandah avoided to prevent over-identification with Yama’s specific mythological rod of punishment.
Perseverance Endurance
Approved rendering: सहिष्णुता
Transliteration: sahiṣṇutā
Doctrine: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: धृतिः
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Patient endurance under trial (1:9; 2:2-3,19; 3:10; 13:10; 14:12). Dhritih avoided: a component of a dharma-ethics virtue-list (Manusmriti); this endurance is rooted in hope of Christ’s return, not stoic dharmic virtue performed for merit.
Marriage Wedding
Approved rendering: विवाहः
Transliteration: vivāhaḥ
Doctrine: The Church as Bride of Christ
Original: γάμος
Category: Church as Bride of Christ
The consummated union celebrated at ‘the marriage supper of the Lamb’ (19:7-9). Risk is compositional (with वधूः + मेषशावकः together), not in this word alone.
New Jerusalem
Approved rendering: नूतना यरूशालम्
Transliteration: nūtanā yarūśālam
Doctrine: The New Heaven and New Earth
Original: Ἰερουσαλὴμ καινή
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
The perfected heavenly city (3:12; 21:2,10). Proper name; requires OT background note for readers unfamiliar with biblical geography.
Sea Chaos
Approved rendering: समुद्रः
Transliteration: samudraḥ
Doctrine: The New Heaven and New Earth
Original: θάλασσα
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
The sea as primeval-chaos source of the beast (13:1), finally abolished (21:1). No positive Puranic ‘sea = chaos’ counterpart (samudra-manthan is cosmogonic/beneficial); note the reversal — sea as removed threat, not source of amrita.
Tabernacle Dwell
Approved rendering: निवासः
Transliteration: nivāsaḥ
Doctrine: The New Heaven and New Earth
Original: σκηνή / σκηνόω
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
God’s permanent, personal, unmediated dwelling with his redeemed people (21:3; cf. 7:15). Distinguish from Vedic yajna-oriented deity-invocation (ahvana, temporary ritual summoning); this is permanent relational dwelling.
Millennium
Approved rendering: सहस्रवर्षाणि
Transliteration: sahasravarṣāṇi
Doctrine: The Millennial Reign of Christ
Original: χίλια ἔτη
Category: Return and Reign of Christ
The thousand-year reign (20:1-6). Must be distinguished from the endlessly-repeating catur-yuga cycle (krita-treta-dvapara-kali, Kali Yuga alone = 432,000 years); a single, bounded period within linear eschatology.
Four Living Creatures
Approved rendering: चत्वारि जीवानि
Transliteration: catvāri jīvāni
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb
Original: τὰ τέσσαρα ζῷα
Category: Worship of the Lamb
Four symbolic worship-leaders before God’s throne (4:6-8; Ezek 1). Distinguish from deity vahanas (Garuda/Vishnu, Nandi/Shiva) and four-faced Brahma; created worshippers, not deity-mounts or a divinized quaternity.
New Song
Approved rendering: नूतनं गीतम्
Transliteration: nūtanaṃ gītam
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb
Original: ᾆσμα καινόν
Category: Worship of the Lamb
A newly-composed song fitting the Lamb’s redemptive achievement (5:9; 14:3). Minor incidental Bhagavad Gita (‘the Song’) resonance, unavoidable since gita is the ordinary word; note only.
Key Authority
Approved rendering: कुञ्चिका
Transliteration: kuñcikā
Doctrine: Return and Reign of Christ
Original: κλείς
Category: Return and Reign of Christ
Authority/control: key of David (3:7), keys of Death and Hades (1:18), key of the abyss (9:1; 20:1). Ties to the baseline’s High-risk Davidic Covenant doctrine when paired with दाविद्.
Rod Of Iron
Approved rendering: लौहदण्डः
Transliteration: lohadaṇḍaḥ
Doctrine: Return and Reign of Christ
Original: ῥάβδος σιδηρᾶ
Category: Return and Reign of Christ
Christ’s unbreakable ruling authority (Ps 2:9 quoted at 2:27; 12:5; 19:15). Dandah usefully resonates with royal/judicial authority but risks over-identification with Yama’s specific mythological rod of punishment.
Sharp Sword
Approved rendering: खड्गः
Transliteration: khaḍgaḥ
Doctrine: Judgment of the Wicked
Original: ῥομφαία
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The sharp two-edged sword from Christ’s mouth (1:16; 19:15). Minor Durga/Kali sword-iconography resonance; not severe.
White Robes
Approved rendering: श्वेतवस्त्राणि
Transliteration: śvetavastrāṇi
Doctrine: Vindication of the Saints
Original: στολή λευκή
Category: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints
White garments symbolizing Christ’s imputed righteousness and victory (6:11; 7:9,13). Distinguish from sannyasin/ascetic-renunciate white dress; symbolizes imputed righteousness, not renunciate status.
Curse Undone
Approved rendering: शापः
Transliteration: śāpaḥ
Doctrine: The Removal of the Curse
Original: κατάρα
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
‘No more curse’ (22:3). Shapah is an extremely familiar Puranic/epic device (sage/god-pronounced curses structuring myth-cycles); clarify as the one, singular Genesis 3 curse and its final undoing, not one of many negotiable mythological curses.
Harlot Babylon
Approved rendering: वेश्या / बाबिलोन्
Transliteration: veśyā / bābilon
Doctrine: Babylon and the Judgment of the World-System
Original: πόρνη / Βαβυλών
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
‘Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots’ (chs. 17-18). Primarily a cultural-sensitivity, OT-background note (Gen 11, Daniel, Ezek 16, 23) rather than a Sanskrit-philosophical collision.
False Prophet
Approved rendering: मृषाभविष्यद्वक्ता
Transliteration: mṝṣābhaviṣyadvaktā
Doctrine: Judgment of the Wicked
Original: ψευδοπροφήτης
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The second beast (ch. 13), formally named at 16:13. Compound extension of the baseline भविष्यद्वक्ता term with mrsha, ‘false.‘
Serve Worship Cultic
Approved rendering: सेवा
Transliteration: sevā
Doctrine: Worship of the Lamb
Original: λατρεύω
Category: Worship of the Lamb
The redeemed’s eternal, joyful cultic service to God (7:15; 22:3). Positive bhakti-devotional resonance (devotional service to a chosen deity/guru), generally useful, provided the object of सेवा remains exclusively the one true God/Lamb, not one ishta-devata among many.
Ark Of Covenant
Approved rendering: संविदः पेटिका
Transliteration: saṃvidaḥ peṭikā
Doctrine: Sovereignty of God over History
Original: κιβωτὸς τῆς διαθήκης
Category: Sovereignty of God over History
The ark’s appearance in the heavenly temple (11:19), signaling God’s covenant faithfulness vindicated. Reuses baseline संविद्.
Temple God As Temple
Approved rendering: मन्दिरम्
Transliteration: mandiram
Doctrine: The New Heaven and New Earth
Original: ναός
Category: New Heaven and New Earth
‘I saw no temple… for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple’ (21:22). Deliberately REUSED despite the baseline’s rejection of mandiram for ‘church’ — here the verse’s own rhetorical point (no image-centered sacred building needed, because God himself is the temple) makes direct, correct, theologically positive contact with mandira-centered devotional vocabulary. Rare case where the ‘obvious’ term is the theologically correct one.
Altar
Approved rendering: बलिपीठम्
Transliteration: balipīṭham
Doctrine: Vindication of the Saints
Original: θυσιαστήριον
Category: Judgment of the Wicked and Vindication of the Saints
The heavenly altar under which martyrs’ souls cry for vindication (6:9; 8:3; 9:13). Evokes Vedic yajna-altar imagery; the referent is a heavenly, symbolic altar, not an ongoing sacrificial ritual site.
Winepress Wrath
Approved rendering: द्राक्षायन्त्रम्
Transliteration: drākṣāyantram
Doctrine: Divine Wrath and Justice
Rejected alternatives: कुण्डम्
Original: ληνός
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
The winepress of God’s wrath (14:19-20; 19:15). Kundam avoided for the same reason as the lake of fire — prevents conflation with a sanctified ritual fire-pit.
Sorcerer
Approved rendering: ऐन्द्रजालिकाः
Transliteration: aindrajālikāḥ
Doctrine: Judgment of the Wicked
Original: φαρμακός
Category: Judgment of the Wicked
Practitioners of magic/sorcery, excluded from the New Jerusalem (21:8, core passage; cf. 9:21; 18:23; 22:15). Root indrajala (‘Indra’s net’/illusion-craft) carries mild mythological color but no severe doctrinal collision; note only.
Unbelieving
Approved rendering: अविश्वासिनः
Transliteration: aviśvāsinaḥ
Doctrine: Faith (negation)
Original: ἄπιστος
Category: Perseverance and Faithful Witness under Persecution
Those without faith/trust, excluded from the New Jerusalem (21:8, core passage). Direct negation of the baseline विश्वासः; consistency across the pipeline is required.
