Established Urdu Christian Bible term (‘good/joyful news’). Distinguish from انجیل (Injil) used alone, which in Quranic usage names a revealed book given to Isa that Islamic theology holds was later lost or corrupted (taḥrīf) — انجیل shریف (‘the noble Injil’) is used by Urdu Christians for the New Testament as Scripture, but ‘gospel’ as the proclaimed message of Christ’s death and resurrection is better carried by خوش خبری to avoid the Islamic-theology baggage of ‘a scripture that was corrupted.’
