God

Бог is the standard, universally recognized term across Orthodox, Protestant, and secular Russian usage; unlike Hindi’s ‘भगवान’, there is no competing polytheistic default sense to guard against. Main risk is registerial: decades of official atheism mean Бог can appear in casual secular idiom (‘слава Богу’, ‘дай Бог’) emptied of personal referent, so passages proclaiming God’s personal action (e.g. 1:19-20) should keep the referent vivid and specific.
