CRITICAL: благодать is the correct Synodal term, but Russian Orthodox theology (following Palamas) understands it as uncreated divine energies that really transform and deify the believer, not primarily an unmerited legal pardon. Romans’ forensic ‘apart from works’ sense must be made explicit in surrounding text so the term is not silently absorbed into a sacramental/theosis framework. милость (mercy/kindness) is too weak and used for ordinary human kindness; удача/везение (luck) must never be used.
