Core Glossary

Core Glossary — 2 Thessalonians (English → Gujarati)

Purpose

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified across the full text of 2 Thessalonians (chapters 1–3), citing terms from every chapter. It extends — and never contradicts — the baseline Romans translation_memory.json. Terms already fixed in the baseline are marked [BASELINE REUSE] and MUST be used exactly as recorded there. New terms proposed for this curriculum are marked [NEW] and follow the same risk-tier and forbidden-substitution conventions established in the baseline.

Risk tiers follow doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions: Critical (human theologian review, every occurrence), High (human theologian review), Medium (native speaker review), Low (automated review).

Section 2 — New Terms: The Day of the Lord

EnglishGujaratiTransliterationRiskNotes / Rejected Alternatives
Day of the Lordપ્રભુનો દિવસPrabhu no DivasCriticalMust be taught as one final, linear, historical day of judgment/consummation. NEVER assimilate to Hindu yuga-cycle eschatology (Kali Yuga’s end, Kalki avatāra) or Jain beginningless/endless cosmic cycles.
coming / parousiaઆગમનāgamanHighUsed for Christ’s triumphant return (2:1,8,9); must be distinguished from repeatable avatāra-descent theology.
gathering togetherએકત્રીકરણekatrīkaraṇMediumThe believers’ future gathering unto Christ specifically, not a generic religious assembly/movement.
appearing / manifestationપ્રગટીકરણpragaṭīkaraṇMediumAlso used of the lawless one’s unveiling (2:3,6,8); context must disambiguate whose “appearing” is meant.
revelation (of the Lord Jesus)પ્રગટીકરણpragaṭīkaraṇMediumReuse of same root as above (1:7); NOT self-attained enlightenment (contrast Jain kevala-jñāna).
has come / is at hand (false claim)(ખોટો ખ્યાલ કે) આવી ગયો છેMediumMust read clearly as the erroneous report Paul corrects, not his own teaching.
Rejected alternativeઅવતાર-framed renderings of “coming” rejected throughout, consistent with baseline’s Incarnation entry.

Section 3 — New Terms: The Man of Lawlessness

EnglishGujaratiTransliterationRiskNotes / Rejected Alternatives
man of lawlessnessઅનિયમી પુરુષaniyamī puruṣCriticalREJECTED: અધર્મી પુરુષ — અધર્મ collides with Jain adharmāstikāya, the technical metaphysical substance (medium of rest) paired with dharmāstikāya, the exact collision the baseline already documents for νόμος. Built instead on નિયમ (rule), the baseline root of નિયમશાસ્ત્ર.
the lawless oneઅનિયમીaniyamīCriticalSame reasoning as above.
lawlessnessઅનિયમીપણુંaniyamīpaṇũCriticalAbstract form, same root.
son of destruction/perditionવિનાશનો પુત્રvināśno putraCriticalDeliberate structural echo of baseline પરમેશ્વરનો પુત્ર (Son of God) — a counterfeit “son,” to be perceived in translation.
apostasy / the rebellionવિશ્વાસત્યાગviśvās-tyāgCriticalREJECTED: ધર્મત્યાગ — ત્યાગ (renunciation) is a positive virtue in Jain monastic vows and Hindu sannyāsa; “dharma-tyāg” would sound like commendable ascetic renunciation, the opposite of sinful defection. Built instead on baseline’s વિશ્વાસ (faith).
adversary / opposesવિરોધીvirodhīMediumActive personal opposition to God.
exalts himselfપોતાને ઊંચો ગણાવવોpotāne ũco gaṇāvvoMediumSelf-deification, the figure’s defining act.
object of worshipપૂજાનું પાત્રpūjā-nũ pātraHighપૂજા is the everyday Gujarati word for Hindu/Jain ritual worship; here deliberately names every rival object of worship the figure usurps — context/notes must prevent this reading as neutral description of legitimate devotion.
temple of God (this context)પરમેશ્વરનું મંદિરParmeśvarnũ MandirCriticalDistinct from baseline’s rejection of મંદિર for ἐκκλησία (church-as-people). Here ναός is a literal/symbolic sanctuary; risk is that hearers picture an ordinary Hindu-temple idol scene rather than perceiving the blasphemy of a man enthroned in God’s own sanctuary. Translator note required at every occurrence.
mystery of lawlessnessઅનિયમીપણાનું રહસ્યaniyamīpaṇānũ rahasyaHighરહસ્ય must not be read as esoteric guru-transmitted secret knowledge; this is a God-defined reality progressively disclosed in history.
restrainer (impersonal, v.6)અટકાવનારુંaṭkāvnārũHighNeuter form; must be kept grammatically distinct from the personal form below.
restrainer (personal, v.7)અટકાવનારaṭkāvnārHighMasculine/personal form; the neuter/personal shift across v.6-7 is theologically significant and must be preserved.
SatanશેતાનŚetānMediumPersonal, specific arch-adversary of God; no precise structural equivalent in Vaishnav or Jain cosmology.
the evil oneદુષ્ટ / ભૂંડોduṣṭMediumSame personal being as Satan (3:3); not an abstract evil-principle.
working / operation (energeia)પ્રભાવprabhāvMediumAVOID શક્તિ here too — Satan-empowered “shakti” risks the same Ambaji/goddess-power collision the baseline forbids for δύναμις θεοῦ.
signs and wonders (false)ચિહ્નો અને આશ્ચર્યકર્મોcihno ane āścaryakarmoHighDirectly confronts Gujarat’s popular “godman”/guru miracle-authority (siddhi) expectation; must not be softened — the point is that satanic power can counterfeit miracles.
the lie / falsehoodજૂઠાણુંjūṭhāṇũMediumThe specific deception the lawless one’s display serves.

Section 4 — New Terms: God’s Righteous Judgment

EnglishGujaratiTransliterationRiskNotes / Rejected Alternatives
God’s righteous judgmentપરમેશ્વરનો ન્યાયી ચુકાદોParmeśvarno nyāyī cukādoCriticalBuilt on baseline’s ન્યાયી root (righteousness/justification). Must be a personal Judge’s forensic verdict, NOT the impersonal, self-executing law of karma central to both Hindu and Jain frameworks (cf. baseline’s “providence”/“election” collision notes).
judgment / verdictચુકાદોcukādoHighBase term.
to be condemned / judgedદોષિત ઠરાવવોdoṣit ṭharāvvoCriticalDeliberate forensic mirror of baseline’s ન્યાયી ઠરાવવું (justification, “declared righteous”): condemnation is a declaration of guilt, not karma-phala.
eternal destructionઅનંત વિનાશanant vināsHighREJECTED: સનાતન વિનાશ — સનાતન is Hinduism’s own self-designation (“Sanātan Dharma”); અનંત avoids this collision while preserving true unendingness.
vengeance / retributionબદલો / ન્યાયી બદલોnyāyī badloMediumJudicial retribution by a personal God — not personal vengeance, not impersonal karmic “boomerang.”
unrighteousness / wickednessઅન્યાયીપણુંanyāyīpaṇũMediumNegation of baseline’s ન્યાયીપણું; REJECTED અધર્મ for the same Jain adharmāstikāya reason documented above.
working of delusion / strong delusionભ્રમિત કરનારો પ્રભાવbhramit karnāro prabhāvHighGod’s judicial confirmation of willful unbelief — NOT the Advaita Vedānta māyā (illusory nature of reality itself). A specific judicial act against a specific rejection, not a metaphysical claim.
error / delusionભ્રમbhramMediumSee above; avoid maya/philosophical-illusion associations.
delight in wickednessઅન્યાયમાં રાજી થવાanyāymã rājī thavāMediumUnderscores willful, not merely ignorant, rejection.
love of the truthસત્યનો પ્રેમsatyano premHighપ્રેમ risks Vaishnav prema-bhakti collision (devotional sentiment toward a chosen deity); સત્ય risks Gandhian/Jain satya-vrata (ethical truthfulness) collision. Here specifically: receptive embrace of revealed gospel truth about Christ.
believe the lieજૂઠાણા પર વિશ્વાસ કરવોHighDeliberately mirrors baseline’s વિશ્વાસ (faith) — the same faculty of trust, misdirected, becomes damning.

Section 5 — New Terms: Perseverance under Persecution

EnglishGujaratiTransliterationRiskNotes / Rejected Alternatives
endurance / perseveranceસહનશીલતાsahanśīltāHighMust be distinguished from Jain tapa/titikṣā, self-imposed ascetic endurance that sheds karmic matter (nirjarā) for merit. Biblical endurance is grace-sustained endurance of suffering inflicted by others for the faith, never self-chosen austerity earning spiritual merit.
persecutionsસતાવણીsatāvaṇīMediumExternal hostility for the faith.
afflictions / tribulationsવિપત્તિvipattiMediumConcrete sufferings paired with ὑπομονή.
evidence / proofપુરાવોpurāvoLowEndurance as visible proof of God’s righteous judgment already operative.
worthy / counted worthyયોગ્ય ગણાવુંyogya gaṇāvũLowBeing counted worthy of the kingdom through God’s work, not self-attained merit.
rest / reliefવિસામોvisāmoLowFuture relief for the persecuted at Christ’s return.
repay / recompenseબદલો આપવોbadlo āpvoMediumGod’s just, personal recompense.
hopeઆશાāśāMediumConfident expectation grounded in God’s promise, not vague karma-conditioned worldly expectation.
good hopeસારી આશાsārī āśāMediumPaired with grace (2:16).
eternal comfortઅનંત આશ્વાસનanant āśvāsanMediumLasting divine consolation sustaining perseverance.
strengthenમજબૂત કરવુંmajbūt karvũLowGod’s active strengthening of believers’ hearts.
faithful (of the Lord)વિશ્વાસુviśvāsuMediumBuilt on baseline’s વિશ્વાસ root; ground of believers’ own endurance.
confidence (in the Lord)ભરોસોbharosoLow-MediumSettled trust distinct from, but related to, વિશ્વાસ.

Section 6 — New Terms: Standing Firm in the Traditions

EnglishGujaratiTransliterationRiskNotes / Rejected Alternatives
traditionsપરંપરાparamparāCriticalOrdinary Gujarati usage overwhelmingly denotes inherited Hindu/Jain ritual custom, family/caste practice. MUST be clarified via context or translator note as specific apostolic teaching received from Paul about Christ and the gospel — never generic inherited religious custom or caste-bound practice.
stand firmદૃઢ રહો / સ્થિર રહોdṛḍh rahoHighFirm, unwavering commitment to apostolic doctrine under pressure.
hold fast (the traditions)પરંપરાઓને દૃઢતાથી પકડી રાખવીHighActive, deliberate retention; paired with પરંપરા above.
remember (earlier teaching)યાદ કરવુંyād karvũLowAppeal to prior oral apostolic teaching as authoritative tradition.
walking disorderly / idlyઅવ્યવસ્થિત રીતે ચાલવુંLowPractical failure to live by received apostolic tradition (ch.3).
imitateઅનુકરણ કરવુંanukaraṇ karvũLowModeling conduct on Paul’s embodied apostolic example.
pattern / exampleનમૂનોnamūnoLowPaul’s disciplined labor as a deliberate model.
mark / take note of (discipline)નોંધ કરવીnoṅdh karvīMediumChurch-discipline vocabulary; must remain restorative, not permanent exclusion.
do not associate withસંગત ન રાખવીMediumNegates baseline’s positive સંગત (fellowship); scope must be limited and corrective (v.15: treat as brother, not enemy), distinct from caste-like social ostracism.
admonishચેતવવું / સમજાવવુંLow-MediumRestorative correction motivated by care, not communal shaming.
commandઆજ્ઞા આપવીāgnā āpvīLowApostolic authority behind the traditions.
Lord of peaceશાંતિનો પ્રભુŚāntino PrabhuMediumReuse of baseline પ્રભુ + શાંતિ; God as source of the traditions’ promised relational peace.

Section 7 — Supporting Vocabulary (Cross-Doctrine, All Chapters)

EnglishGujaratiTransliterationRiskNotes
loveપ્રેમpremHighNew baseline-adjacent term; see Section 4 note on prema-bhakti collision. Occurs 1:3 (love among believers) and 2:10 (love of the truth).
truthસત્યsatyaHighNew baseline-adjacent term; see Section 4 note on satya-vrata/satyāgraha collision.
deceptionછેતરપિંડીchetarpiṇḍīLow2:3,10.
perish / those perishingનાશ પામનારાnāś pāmnārāLow2:10.
angelsદૂતોdūtoMedium1:7; standard Christian term, low general collision but new to this curriculum’s TM.
appointed timeનિયત સમયniyat samayMedium2:6; God’s providential timetable, NOT astrological auspicious-timing (જ્યોતિષ) as per baseline’s “prophet” entry caution.
destroy / abolishનાશ કરવો / રદ કરવોnāś karvo / rad karvũLow2:8.
breath of his mouthપોતાના મુખના શ્વાસથીMedium2:8; Christ’s word as an instrument of judgment — not generic prāṇa/breath-of-life concepts.
firstfruitsપ્રથમફળprathamphaḷLow2:13.

Cross-Reference to Baseline Forbidden Substitutions (Reaffirmed for This Curriculum)

All forbidden substitutions in the baseline 12_ai_translation_requirements.md remain in force, and the following are added specifically for 2 Thessalonians:

  • Man of Lawlessness / Lawlessness / Apostasy: NEVER use અધર્મ or ધર્મત્યાગ — always use અનિયમી(પણું) and વિશ્વાસત્યાગ respectively.
  • Eternal destruction: NEVER use સનાતન — always use અનંત.
  • Delusion/error (2:11): NEVER frame as māyā (cosmic illusion) — always frame as a specific judicial act of God against specific unbelief.
  • Working/power (energeia, of Satan): NEVER use શક્તિ — always use પ્રભાવ, consistent with baseline’s rule for δύναμις θεοῦ.
  • Traditions (παράδοσις): NEVER leave unglossed as generic પરંપરા without context clarifying apostolic origin — always anchor to Paul’s specific gospel teaching in context or translator note.

Approved rendering: પરમેશ્વર
Transliteration: Parmeśvar
Doctrine: Grace and Peace from God
Rejected alternatives: ઈશ્વર, ભગવાન
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package baseline. ભગવાન is extremely common colloquially in Gujarat for any Hindu deity and among Jains for the Tirthankaras; પરમેશ્વર avoids both associations. Occurs 2 Thessalonians 1:1,2; 2:4,11,13,16; 3:5.

Father

Approved rendering: પિતા
Transliteration: Pitā
Doctrine: Grace and Peace from God

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Personal, relational Father, not an abstract creator-principle. Occurs 1:1,2; 2:16.

Lord

Approved rendering: પ્રભુ
Transliteration: prabhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ / Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: સ્વામી, તીર્થંકર
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Living, presently reigning sovereign; contrast with a Jain siddha permanently withdrawn from the world in non-interaction. Foundational root for the new compound પ્રભુનો દિવસ (Day of the Lord). Occurs throughout.

Jesus

Approved rendering: ઈસુ
Transliteration: Īsu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ઈસા
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Established Gujarati Christian standard; ઈસા is associated with Muslim/Urdu usage. Occurs throughout.

Transliteration: Pavitra Ātmā
Doctrine: Sanctification of the Elect
Rejected alternatives: પરમાત્મા, બ્રહ્મ
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Personal third Person of the Trinity. Occurs 2 Thessalonians 2:13.

Grace

Approved rendering: કૃપા
Transliteration: kṛpā
Doctrine: Grace and Peace from God
Rejected alternatives: મહેરબાની, કર્મફળ, પુણ્ય, નિર્જરા
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Every occurrence must make explicit that grace is unearned and comes through Christ alone, distinguished from both the Hindu karma-merit economy and Jain nirjarā. Occurs 1:2,12; 2:16; 3:18.

Salvation

Approved rendering: ઉદ્ધાર
Transliteration: uddhār
Doctrine: Love of the Truth and Salvation
Rejected alternatives: મોક્ષ, મુક્તિ, કેવલજ્ઞાન, સિદ્ધત્વ
Original: σωτηρία / σώζω
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package baseline. NEVER મોક્ષ, મુક્તિ, કેવલજ્ઞાન, or સિદ્ધત્વ. Occurs (verb form ઉદ્ધાર પામવો) 2:10,13.

Day Of The Lord

Approved rendering: પ્રભુનો દિવસ
Transliteration: Prabhu no Divas
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: કળિયુગનો અંત, કલ્કિ અવતારનું આગમન, ન્યાય દિવસ (as primary term)
Original: ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Eschatology

The single most theologically load-bearing phrase in the core passage. Must be taught as ONE final, unrepeatable, linear day of judgment/consummation — never assimilated to Hindu yuga-cycle eschatology (Kali Yuga’s end, Kalki avatāra) or Jain beginningless/endless cosmic cycles. Built on baseline’s Critical-tier પ્રભુ root. Occurs 2:1,2.

Apostasia

Approved rendering: વિશ્વાસત્યાગ
Transliteration: viśvās-tyāg
Doctrine: The Apostasy / The Falling Away
Rejected alternatives: ધર્મત્યાગ
Original: ἀποστασία
Category: Eschatology

REJECTED: ધર્મત્યાગ. ત્યાગ (renunciation) is a positive, honored virtue in Jain monastic vows and Hindu sannyāsa; ‘dharma-tyāg’ would sound like commendable ascetic renunciation, the opposite of sinful defection from true faith in Christ. Built on baseline’s વિશ્વાસ root instead. Occurs 2:3.

Man Of Lawlessness

Approved rendering: અનિયમી પુરુષ / અનિયમી
Transliteration: aniyamī puruṣ / aniyamī
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: અધર્મી પુરુષ, પાપનો પુરુષ
Original: ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας / ὁ ἄνομος
Category: Eschatology

REJECTED: અધર્મી પુરુષ. In Jain metaphysics અધર્મ names adharmāstikāya, the technical substance/medium of rest, the direct structural counterpart to ધર્મ’s dharmāstikāya — the exact category error the baseline already forbids for νόμος. Built instead on નિયમ, already the root of baseline’s નિયમશાસ્ત્ર. Also rejected: પાપનો પુરુષ (KJV-lineage ‘man of sin’ textual variant); this curriculum follows the modern critical text’s ‘lawlessness’ sense. Occurs 2:3,8-10.

Lawlessness

Approved rendering: અનિયમીપણું
Transliteration: aniyamīpaṇũ
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: અધર્મ
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Eschatology

Same reasoning as man_of_lawlessness; abstract noun built consistently on the નિયમ root, never અધર્મ. Occurs 2:3,7.

Son Of Destruction

Approved rendering: વિનાશનો પુત્ર
Transliteration: vināśno putra
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας
Category: Eschatology

Deliberate structural echo of baseline’s પરમેશ્વરનો પુત્ર (Son of God) — a counterfeit ‘son’; the ironic contrast should be perceivable in Gujarati. Occurs 2:3.

Naos Tou Theou

Approved rendering: પરમેશ્વરનું મંદિર
Transliteration: Parmeśvarnũ Mandir
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Eschatology

Distinct from the baseline’s rejection of મંદિર for ἐκκλησία (church-as-people); here ναός is a literal/symbolic sanctuary, so મંદિર is contextually required. Risk: hearers may picture an ordinary Hindu-temple idol scene rather than perceiving the blasphemy of a man occupying God’s own sanctuary. MANDATORY translator note required at every occurrence. Occurs 2:4.

Gods Righteous Judgment

Approved rendering: પરમેશ્વરનો ન્યાયી ચુકાદો
Transliteration: Parmeśvarno nyāyī cukādo
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: કર્મનો ન્યાય, કર્મફળ
Original: δικαία κρίσις τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Judgment

Built on the baseline’s established ન્યાયી root (righteousness/justification). Must be a personal Judge’s forensic verdict, sharply distinguished from the impersonal, self-executing law of karma central to both Hindu and Jain frameworks. Occurs 1:5-10.

Condemned Judged

Approved rendering: દોષિત ઠરાવવો
Transliteration: doṣit ṭharāvvo
Doctrine: Condemnation of the Unrighteous
Rejected alternatives: કર્મફળ ભોગવવું
Original: κρίνω (κριθῶσιν)
Category: Judgment

Deliberately mirrors the baseline’s compound-phrase strategy for δικαίωσις (ન્યાયી ઠરાવવું, ‘declared righteous’): condemnation is the forensic declaration of guilt, not karma-phala, the impersonal ripening of karmic fruit. Occurs 2:12.

Traditions

Approved rendering: પરંપરા
Transliteration: paramparā
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Rejected alternatives: રિવાજ, ઉપદેશ (as replacement)
Original: παράδοσις
Category: Covenant and Tradition

The single highest ambient-collision-risk term in the entire curriculum. પરંપરા in ordinary Gujarati religious life overwhelmingly denotes inherited Hindu/Jain ritual custom, family/caste practice, and sampradāya guru-lineage teaching. Every occurrence MUST carry context or a translator note anchoring it explicitly to specific apostolic teaching received from Paul about Christ and the gospel — never generic inherited religious custom or caste-bound practice. Occurs 2:15; 3:6.

High Risk Terms

Faith

Approved rendering: વિશ્વાસ
Transliteration: viśvāsa
Doctrine: Growing Faith and Love / Love of the Truth and Salvation
Rejected alternatives: શ્રદ્ધા, ભક્તિ
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Root also used for વિશ્વાસત્યાગ (apostasy) and જૂઠાણા પર વિશ્વાસ કરવો (believe the lie) — the same faculty of trust, rightly or wrongly directed. Occurs 1:3,4,11; 2:13; 3:2.

Holy

Approved rendering: પવિત્ર
Transliteration: pavitra
Doctrine: Sanctification of the Elect
Rejected alternatives: શુદ્ધ
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Underlies ‘saints’ and ‘sanctification’ throughout the letter.

Saints

Approved rendering: પવિત્ર જનો
Transliteration: pavitra jano
Doctrine: Glory and Power of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: સંતો, મુનિ
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package baseline. All believers, never an ascetic elite. Occurs 1:10.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: પવિત્રીકરણ
Transliteration: pavitrikaraṇ
Doctrine: Sanctification of the Elect
Rejected alternatives: શુદ્ધિકરણ, તપ દ્વારા શુદ્ધિ
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Spirit-worked holiness, not tapa (Jain ascetic self-purification). Occurs 2:13.

Called

Approved rendering: તેડાયેલા
Transliteration: tedāyelā
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: આમંત્રિત
Original: καλέω
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Effectual calling to salvation, not guru-disciple diksha-seeking. Occurs 1:11; 2:14.

Calling

Approved rendering: તેડું
Transliteration: teḍũ
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: આહ્વાન
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Occurs 1:11.

Election

Approved rendering: પરમેશ્વરની પસંદગી
Transliteration: Parmeśvarnī Pasandagī
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: નસીબ, નિયતિ, કર્મ-ફળ
Original: αἱρέομαι (εἵλατο)
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package baseline. God’s sovereign personal choice, not impersonal karma-determined destiny. Occurs 2:13.

Glory

Approved rendering: મહિમા
Transliteration: mahimā
Doctrine: Glory and Power of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: તેજ, પ્રકાશ
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Avoid light-only imagery merging with Hindu divine-light or Jain kevala-jnana associations. Occurs 1:9,10,12; 2:14.

Power Of God

Approved rendering: પરમેશ્વરનું સામર્થ્ય
Transliteration: Parmeśvarnũ Sāmarthya
Doctrine: Glory and Power of Christ’s Return
Rejected alternatives: શક્તિ
Original: δύναμις / ἰσχύς
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package baseline. NEVER શક્તિ, which would read as the distinct divine-feminine Shakti/Ambaji power in Gujarat’s devotional culture. Occurs 1:9,11.

Gospel

Approved rendering: સુવાર્તા
Transliteration: suvārtā
Doctrine: Divine Calling and Election
Rejected alternatives: ખબર, શુભ સંદેશ
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Occurs 1:8; 2:14.

Obedience Of Faith

Approved rendering: વિશ્વાસનું આજ્ઞાપાલન / સુવાર્તાનું આજ્ઞાપાલન
Transliteration: viśvāsnũ āgnāpālan / suvārtānũ āgnāpālan
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: ધાર્મિક ફરજ
Original: ὑπακούω τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package baseline. Its absence, per 1:8, brings judgment; obedience flowing from faith, not merit-earning religious duty.

Parousia

Approved rendering: આગમન
Transliteration: āgaman
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: અવતાર-framed renderings, પારૂસિયા (opaque transliteration)
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology

Christ’s visible, triumphant royal arrival. Must be kept distinct from Vaishnav avatāra-descent theology; risk of assimilation to the next avatar in a cycle (cf. Kalki expectation) rather than the one, final return of the already-incarnate Lord. Occurs 2:1,8,9.

Sebasma

Approved rendering: પૂજાનું પાત્ર
Transliteration: pūjā-nũ pātra
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: σέβασμα
Category: Eschatology

પૂજા is the everyday Gujarati word for Hindu/Jain ritual worship; context must make clear this describes false worship being usurped, not a neutral description of legitimate devotional practice. Occurs 2:4.

Mystery Of Lawlessness

Approved rendering: અનિયમીપણાનું રહસ્ય
Transliteration: aniyamīpaṇānũ rahasya
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: τὸ μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Eschatology

Must not be read as esoteric secret knowledge transmitted to initiated disciples (guru-śiṣya category in Swaminarayan bhakti and Jain monastic instruction); this is a God-defined reality progressively disclosed in history. Occurs 2:7.

Restrainer Impersonal

Approved rendering: અટકાવનારું
Transliteration: aṭkāvnārũ
Doctrine: The Restraining of Lawlessness
Original: τὸ κατέχον
Category: Eschatology

Neuter form (τὸ κατέχον). Must be kept grammatically distinct from the personal/masculine form (2:7) so Paul’s intentional ambiguity is preserved, not artificially resolved. Nearly all existing Gujarati Bibles collapse both into a single form; this curriculum requires the distinction. Occurs 2:6.

Restrainer Personal

Approved rendering: અટકાવનાર
Transliteration: aṭkāvnār
Doctrine: The Restraining of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ κατέχων
Category: Eschatology

Masculine/personal form (ὁ κατέχων). Consistency of the neuter/masculine distinction across 2:6-7 is required; flag both occurrences for theologian review. Occurs 2:7.

Signs And Wonders False

Approved rendering: સામર્થ્ય, ચિહ્નો અને આશ્ચર્યકર્મો
Transliteration: sāmarthya, cihno ane āścaryakarmo
Doctrine: Satan’s Counterfeit Power
Rejected alternatives: ચમત્કારો (softened generic ‘miracles’)
Original: δύναμις, σημεῖα, τέρατα ψεύδους
Category: Satan and Spiritual Warfare

Directly confronts Gujarat’s popular godman/guru miracle-authority (siddhi) expectation; must not be softened — the passage’s point is that miracle-working can be satanically counterfeit and deceptive. Occurs 2:9.

Krisis

Approved rendering: ચુકાદો
Transliteration: cukādo
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: κρίσις
Category: Judgment

Base judicial-decision term underlying ‘God’s righteous judgment.’ A personal verdict, not an impersonal cosmic reckoning. Occurs 1:5.

Eternal Destruction

Approved rendering: અનંત વિનાશ
Transliteration: anant vinās
Doctrine: Eternal Destruction
Rejected alternatives: સનાતન વિનાશ
Original: ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος
Category: Judgment

REJECTED: સનાતન વિનાશ. સનાતન (‘eternal, ageless’) is Hinduism’s own self-designation (‘Sanātan Dharma’); using it here would create an unintended, jarring cross-association. અનંત avoids this collision while preserving true unendingness. Occurs 1:9.

Energeia Planes

Approved rendering: ભ્રમિત કરનારો પ્રભાવ
Transliteration: bhramit karnāro prabhāv
Doctrine: God’s Judicial Delusion
Rejected alternatives: માયા-framed rendering
Original: ἐνέργειαν πλάνης
Category: Judgment

Must not be assimilated to the Advaita Vedānta concept of māyā, the illusory nature of the phenomenal world itself, a salient philosophical idea in Gujarati religious culture. This is God’s specific judicial response to a specific people’s specific rejection, not a metaphysical claim about reality. Occurs 2:11.

Love Of The Truth

Approved rendering: સત્યનો પ્રેમ
Transliteration: satyano prem
Doctrine: Love of the Truth and Salvation
Original: ἀγάπη τῆς ἀληθείας
Category: Judgment

પ્રેમ risks conflation with Vaishnav prema-bhakti (devotional sentiment toward a freely chosen deity); સત્ય risks conflation with Gandhian/Jain satya-vrata ethical truthfulness. Here specifically: receptive embrace of revealed, propositional gospel truth about Christ. Occurs 2:10.

Believe The Lie

Approved rendering: જૂઠાણા પર વિશ્વાસ કરવો
Transliteration: jūṭhāṇā par viśvās karvo
Doctrine: God’s Judicial Delusion
Original: πιστεύω τῷ ψεύδει
Category: Judgment

Deliberately reuses baseline’s Critical-tier વિશ્વાસ (faith) to show that the same faculty of trust, wrongly directed, becomes damning; this parallelism must be visible in the Gujarati text. Occurs 2:11.

Hypomone

Approved rendering: સહનશીલતા
Transliteration: sahanśīltā
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: તપ, તિતિક્ષા
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Perseverance

REJECTED: તપ/તિતિક્ષા (Jain ascetic endurance for shedding karmic matter/nirjarā, already Critical in baseline’s grace entry). Biblical ὑπομονή is God-given, grace-sustained endurance of suffering inflicted by others for the faith, never self-chosen austerity earning spiritual merit. Occurs 1:4.

Love General

Approved rendering: પ્રેમ
Transliteration: prem
Doctrine: Growing Faith and Love
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Faith

New baseline-adjacent term. Risks conflation with Vaishnav prema-bhakti, devotional sentiment directed at a freely chosen deity; here it names either brotherly Christian love (1:3) or receptive embrace of gospel truth (2:10), not generic devotional feeling.

Truth General

Approved rendering: સત્ય
Transliteration: satya
Doctrine: Love of the Truth and Salvation
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Judgment

New baseline-adjacent term. Risks conflation with the Gandhian/Jain ethical virtue of truthfulness (satya-vrata, satyāgraha); here it names the specific revealed gospel truth about Christ. Occurs 2:10,12,13.

Doctrine: The Day of the Lord / Glory and Power of Christ’s Return
Original: ἐπιφάνεια / ἀποκάλυψις
Category: Eschatology

Used both of Christ’s appearing (1:7; 2:8) and, in a distinct sense, of the lawless one’s unveiling (2:3,6,8). Context must disambiguate whose appearing is meant; never confused with periodic avatāra appearances or Jain kevala-jñāna self-attained enlightenment.

Transliteration: (pahelethī) āvī gayo che evo khoṭo khyāl

Rejected alternatives: શક્તિ
Original: ἐνέργεια

Approved rendering: જૂઠાણું
Transliteration: jūṭhāṇũ
Doctrine: Satan’s Counterfeit Power / God’s Judicial Delusion
Original: ψεῦδος
