Semantic Analysis
Semantic Analysis — Jude (English → Gujarati)
Scope and Method
Jude is a single-chapter, 25-verse letter. Per the full-book coverage mandate, this document treats:
- Part 1 — Core Passage Verse-by-Verse (Jude 1:3–23): every load-bearing term, original Greek word, transliteration, literal meaning, semantic range, English variants, contextual theological meaning, and Gujarati rendering risk.
- Part 2 — Remainder of Chapter 1 (Jude 1:1–2, 1:24–25): the salutation and closing doxology, the only verses of the book outside the core passage, treated with the same fields. Together Parts 1 and 2 provide complete verse-by-verse coverage of the entire book of Jude — first verse to last.
Terms already established in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] and the recorded Gujarati rendering is used exactly, with no re-derivation. New terms required for Jude’s distinctive vocabulary are derived following the same collision-detection method the baseline uses (checking against Gujarat’s dominant Vaishnav-bhakti and Jain frames of reference).
PART 1 — Core Passage Verse-by-Verse: Jude 1:3–23
Jude 1:3
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ἀγαπητοί agapētoi ”loved ones” | vocative of address to fellow believers ”beloved,” “dear friends” | Warm pastoral address establishing relational authority before a warning | પ્રિય (priya) — Medium. Common Gujarati bhakti poetry also addresses a chosen deity as “priya” (beloved); context of address to fellow believers (not deity) mitigates confusion. |
| σωτηρίας sōtērias ”of deliverance” | rescue, deliverance from danger/judgment ”salvation” | The shared salvation all true believers hold in common | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] ઉદ્ધાર — Critical |
| παρακαλῶν parakalōn ”urging/appealing” | exhort, entreat, urge, comfort ”appealing to,” “urging,” “exhorting” | Paul-like apostolic urgency, not casual suggestion | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM — context: entreaty sense] વિનંતી કરવી — Low |
| ἐπαγωνίζεσθαι epagōnizesthai ”to struggle/contend upon” | to fight earnestly for a cause, agonistic contest imagery ”contend for,” “strive for,” “fight for” | Central imperative of the letter: active, effortful defense of revealed truth against corrupting teachers | ઝઝૂમવું (jhajhūmvũ) — High. Doctrine: Contending for the Faith. Risk: must not be softened into passive “holding to” belief; the Greek is agonistic (same root as “agonize”). Must also not be read as self-effort earning standing before God (that would collide with grace); this is defensive contention for a truth already received, not meritorious striving for salvation. |
| ἅπαξ hapax ”once,” “once for all” | a single, unrepeatable, completed event ”once for all,” “once,” “one time” | Marks the deposit of Christian truth as a closed, completed, non-repeating revelation | એક જ વાર (ek j vār) — High. Doctrine: Contending for the Faith Once Delivered. Risk: Gujarat’s dominant Hindu yuga-cycle cosmology and Jain’s beginningless/endless cosmic cycle (already flagged in the baseline’s fulfillment_of_prophecy doctrine) both assume repeating cosmic revelation-cycles. ἅπαξ asserts the opposite: a single, linear, final deposit of truth, never to be supplemented or repeated. |
| παραδοθείσῃ paradotheisē ”having been handed over/delivered” | to entrust, hand down a tradition, deliver up ”delivered,” “entrusted,” “handed down” | The faith is a received, fixed deposit transmitted by apostolic authority, not something each generation formulates anew | સોંપાયેલો (soṅpāyelo) — Medium. Pairs with ἅπαξ; together render “the faith once for all entrusted to the saints.” |
| ἁγίοις hagiois ”to the holy ones” | set-apart people, all believers ”saints,” “holy ones” | All believers collectively, not an ascetic elite | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] પવિત્ર જનો — High |
| πίστει pistei ”faith” | trust, the content of belief, a body of doctrine ”faith,” “the faith” (as body of doctrine) | Here πίστις shifts from subjective trust (Romans’ usual sense) to the objective body of apostolic teaching — “the faith” as a noun referring to revealed content | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] વિશ્વાસ — High. Translator note: this occurrence denotes the content entrusted (objective sense), not merely personal trust (subjective sense); context must make this clear in surrounding phrasing since વિશ્વાસ alone defaults to the subjective sense established in Romans. |
Jude 1:4
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| παρεισέδυσαν pareisedysan ”slipped in secretly” | infiltrate stealthily, sneak in ”crept in unnoticed,” “slipped in” | False teachers gained entry to the community by stealth, not open confrontation | છૂપી રીતે ઘૂસી ગયા (chhūpī rīte ghūsī gayā) — Medium |
| προγεγραμμένοι progegrammenoi ”having been written beforehand / marked out in advance” | designated in advance, foreordained ”marked out,” “designated beforehand,” “predicted” | These teachers’ condemnation was not a surprise to God — a note of certain, sovereign judgment | પૂર્વનિર્ધારિત (pūrva-nirdhārit) — High. Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers. Risk: must be anchored to a personal God’s righteous foreknowledge of a specific moral culpability, not read through નિયતિ/નસીબ (impersonal fate) — the same collision the baseline documents for “election,” where fate-language strips God’s personal moral judgment of its personal agent. |
| κρίμα krima ”judgment, sentence” | a judicial verdict, condemnation ”condemnation,” “judgment,” “sentence” | The specific judicial sentence awaiting these teachers | ન્યાય (nyāya) — High. Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers. Risk: must convey the verdict of a personal moral Judge, not the automatic, impersonal “fruit of karma” (karma-phal) that operates without a judging person — the same distinction the baseline draws for “providence” and “election” against karma theory. |
| ἀσεβεῖς asebeis ”ungodly ones” | irreverent, impious, without proper reverence for God ”ungodly,” “impious,” “godless” | Central descriptor of the false teachers throughout the letter (also vv.15,18) | પરમેશ્વરવિહોણા (parmeśvar-vihoṇā, lit. “without/lacking God”) — Critical. Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers. Risk: the natural Gujarati word અધર્મી (“one without dharma”) is deliberately rejected, extending the baseline’s established prohibition on ધર્મ-root terms for righteousness/law (Jain dharmāstikāya is a technical cosmological substance, not a moral category) to this adjective as well, to avoid the same metaphysical collision. The compound built on પરમેશ્વર (the baseline’s established term for the one true God) keeps the term anchored to irreverence toward the personal God, not “lacking cosmic order.” |
| χάριν charin ”grace” | unmerited favor ”grace” | The very grace of God being twisted into a license | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] કૃપા — Critical |
| μετατιθέντες metatithentes ”changing/transferring” | to pervert, distort, turn something into its opposite ”turning,” “perverting,” “distorting” | Grace weaponized into an excuse for sin — the precise inversion the baseline’s grace entry warns against | બદલી નાખવું / વિકૃત કરવું (badalī nākhavũ / vikṛt karavũ) — Medium |
| ἀσέλγειαν aselgeian ”licentiousness” | unrestrained sensual indulgence, debauchery ”sensuality,” “licentiousness,” “debauchery” | The practical outworking of perverted grace | સ્વૈરાચાર (svairāchār) — Medium |
| δεσπότην despotēn ”master, absolute owner” | sovereign master, one who owns/rules absolutely (root of English “despot”) “Master,” “Sovereign Lord,” “Owner” | Distinct from κύριος in the same clause; emphasizes total ownership-authority, paired with δοῦλος (“slave/servant”) self-designation in v.1 | માલિક (mālik) — High. Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers / Lordship. Risk: must not be softened into a generic honorific; the term reinforces the same total, active, ongoing sovereignty documented as Critical for κύριος in the baseline (never a departed, non-interacting figure like a Jain siddha). |
| κύριον kyrion ”lord” | supreme, exclusive authority ”Lord” | Paired with δεσπότην to double-underline Christ’s absolute, undivided authority | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] પ્રભુ — Critical |
| ἀρνούμενοι arnoumenoi ”denying” | disown, refuse to acknowledge, repudiate ”denying,” “disowning” | The false teachers’ practical repudiation of Christ’s lordship through their conduct | નકારવું (nakāravũ) — Medium |
| μόνον monon ”only, sole” | exclusive, unique, without rival ”only,” “sole” | Reinforces exclusivity of Christ’s mastery — no rival lord, guru, or avatar shares this position | એકમાત્ર (ekamātra) — High. Risk: this exclusivity claim directly confronts Gujarat’s devotional culture of choosing among many personal deities/avatars/gurus (iṣṭa-devatā); must be rendered with unambiguous force. |
Jude 1:5
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ὑπομνῆσαι hypomnēsai ”to remind” | bring back to memory ”remind,” “call to mind” | Introduces the first OT type: Israel | સ્મરણ કરાવવું (smaraṇ karāvavũ) — Low |
| ἅπαξ hapax ”once” | see v.3 ”once,” “once for all” | Here describing the historical, one-time exodus rescue — reinforcing the letter’s emphasis on unrepeated, decisive divine acts | [SEE v.3] એક જ વાર — High |
| σώσας sōsas ”having saved” | to rescue, deliver ”saved,” “rescued” | God’s historical deliverance of Israel from Egypt — type of salvation | ઉદ્ધાર કરીને (uddhār karīne) — Critical. Root of σῴζω shares the same doctrinal risk as baseline’s σωτηρία entry: never રendered with મોક્ષ/મુક્તિ-adjacent vocabulary. |
| πιστεύσαντας pisteusantas ”having believed” | to trust, put faith in ”believed,” “had faith” | Israel’s failure to trust God despite having been rescued — the OT warning of Jude 1:5 | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM — verb form of πίστις] વિશ્વાસ કરવો — High |
| ἀπώλεσεν apōlesen ”destroyed” | to ruin, cause to perish ”destroyed,” “brought to ruin” | God’s judgment on the unbelieving generation — first of three OT warning-types (Israel, angels, Sodom) | નાશ કર્યો (nāś karyo) — High. Doctrine: OT Warnings as Types (Israel). Risk: this is a specific act of divine judgment on covenant unbelief, not an impersonal karmic consequence; must retain the personal agent (Jesus/God) as subject of the verb. |
Jude 1:6
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ἀγγέλους angelous ”angels” | created spiritual messenger-beings ”angels” | Second OT-adjacent warning-type: fallen angels | દેવદૂત (devdūt) — Medium. Risk: Gujarat’s Hindu and Jain cosmologies both include a class of heavenly beings called “deva” — in Jain cosmology, devas are unliberated beings still bound within the karma-samsara cycle, a rank one is reborn into, not created moral agents who chose rebellion against a personal God. Teaching must clarify biblical angels are created, morally accountable spirit-beings distinct from this rebirth-realm category. |
| ἀρχήν archēn ”position, domain, rule” | office, sphere of authority, realm of rule (also: “beginning,” not the sense here) “position,” “domain,” “own place of authority” | The angels’ God-assigned rank/sphere, which they abandoned | પોતાનું અધિકારપદ (potānũ adhikārpad) — Medium |
| οἰκητήριον oikētērion ”dwelling place” | habitation, abode ”dwelling,” “proper dwelling place” | The angels’ assigned heavenly domain, which they left | નિવાસસ્થાન (nivāsasthān) — Low |
| κρίσιν krisin ”judgment” | judicial verdict, day of reckoning ”judgment” | The great final day of reckoning awaiting the fallen angels | ન્યાય (nyāya) — High [see v.4 κρίμα rationale] |
| δεσμοῖς ἀϊδίοις desmois aidiois ”with eternal bonds/chains” | everlasting fetters, unending imprisonment ”everlasting chains,” “eternal bonds” | The present, ongoing confinement of fallen angels awaiting judgment | સદાકાળનાં બંધનો (sadākāḷnā bandhano) — Medium |
| ζόφον zophon ”gloom, thick darkness” | murky darkness, especially of the netherworld ”darkness,” “gloom,” “nether gloom” | The place of the fallen angels’ confinement | ઘોર અંધકાર (ghor andhakār) — Low |
| τετήρηκεν tetērēken ”has kept” | to keep, guard, hold in a state (perfect tense: abiding result) “has kept,” “has reserved,” “has held” | Ironic use of the letter’s keyword: God “keeps” the rebellious angels in chains for judgment, just as he “keeps” (τηρέω) believers for glory (v.1, v.21, v.24) — the same divine keeping-power operates for both preservation and judgment | જાળવી રાખ્યા છે (jāḷavī rākhyā chhe) — High. Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless — this is the FIRST occurrence of Jude’s τηρέω keyword-chain (vv.1, 6, 13, 21, and φυλάσσω in v.24). Risk: the Gujarati rendering chosen for τηρέω must be usable consistently across all its occurrences, both positive (God keeping believers) and negative (God keeping the rebellious for judgment), since the wordplay is the point. Must not be confused with Jain self-guarding of the soul through ascetic vows (saṃvara, self-restraint stopping karmic influx) — here the keeping is entirely God’s sovereign action, not the kept party’s own effort. |
Jude 1:7
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Σόδομα καὶ Γόμορρα Sodoma kai Gomorra proper names | — “Sodom and Gomorrah” | Third OT warning-type | સદોમ અને ગમોરા (established Gujarati OT form) — Low |
| ἐκπορνεύσασαι ekporneusasai ”having indulged in sexual immorality” | to engage in illicit sexual conduct outside bounds ”gave themselves to sexual immorality,” “indulged in gross immorality” | The specific sin exemplified by Sodom | વ્યભિચાર કરીને (vyabhichār karīne) — Medium |
| σαρκὸς ἑτέρας sarkos heteras ”strange/other flesh” | unnatural sexual conduct ”unnatural desire,” “strange flesh” | Describes the specific perversion at Sodom | અસ્વાભાવિક દેહવાસના (asvābhāvik dehvāsanā) — Medium. Note: “દેહ” (deh, body/flesh) used rather than વાસના alone as headword, since વાસના carries Hindu/Jain technical connotations of latent karmic desire-impressions (see ἐπιθυμία note, v.16) — here used only as a modifying element within a compound, qualified by “અસ્વાભાવિક” (unnatural), to keep the moral-choice sense rather than the metaphysical-residue sense. |
| δεῖγμα deigma ”example, sample” | visible specimen serving as a warning ”example,” “example set forth” | Sodom stands as a public, visible warning-example | ઉદાહરણ (udāharaṇ) — Low |
| πυρὸς αἰωνίου pyros aiōniou ”of eternal fire” | unending judicial fire ”eternal fire” | Ongoing punishment, not a purifying/refining fire | અનંત અગ્નિ (anant agni) — Medium. Risk: Hindu Vedic ritual fire (agni/yajna) functions as a purifying, sacred element; Jain and Hindu cremation fire is similarly linked to ritual purification/release. Jude’s fire is punitive and final, not purificatory — this contrast should be made explicit in teaching notes. |
| δίκην dikēn ”penalty, punishment” | judicial penalty ”punishment,” “penalty” | The just penalty Sodom is undergoing as an ongoing example | શિક્ષા (śikṣā) — Low |
Jude 1:8
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ἐνυπνιαζόμενοι enypniazomenoi ”dreaming” | given to visions/dreams (here dismissively, “these dreamers”) “in their dreamings,” “dreamers” | Dismissive description of the false teachers’ self-generated spiritual claims | સ્વપ્નદ્રષ્ટા (svapna-draṣṭā, dreamers, used pejoratively) — Low |
| μιαίνουσιν miainousin ”defile” | make ritually or morally impure ”defile,” “corrupt,” “pollute” | Moral defilement of the body through sin | ભ્રષ્ટ કરે છે (bhraṣṭ kare chhe) — Medium |
| κυριότητα kyriotēta ”lordship, authority” | dominion, rule, position of authority (abstract noun of κύριος) “authority,” “lordship,” “dominion” | The false teachers reject legitimate divine/angelic authority structures | પ્રભુત્વ (prabhutva) — High. Directly related to the Critical-risk κύριος entry; rejecting κυριότης is rejecting the very authority-principle the baseline documents as central to Lordship of Christ. |
| ἀθετοῦσιν athetousin ”reject, set aside” | nullify, refuse to recognize, treat as invalid ”reject,” “despise,” “set at naught” | Active repudiation of legitimate authority | નકારી કાઢે છે (nakārī kāḍhe chhe) — Medium |
| δόξας doxas ”glories” (plural) | here: glorious beings, i.e., angels; elsewhere: God’s radiant honor ”glorious ones,” “celestial beings,” “dignities” | Distinct sense of δόξα from its usual singular theological use (God’s glory); here plural referring to angelic beings | [REUSED ROOT FROM BASELINE TM] મહિમાવાન સ્વર્ગદૂતો (mahimāvān svargadūto, “glorious heavenly ones”) — High. Translator note: baseline’s મહિમા entry (Deity of Christ doctrine) covers the singular sense (God’s own glory); this plural, angelic-beings sense requires a distinguishing gloss so the two are not conflated. |
| βλασφημοῦσιν blasphēmousin ”blaspheme, slander” | speak profanely/contemptuously against ”blaspheme,” “slander,” “revile” | Contemptuous speech against angelic authorities | નિંદા કરે છે (nindā kare chhe) — High. Same verb reappears regarding proper conduct even toward the devil in v.9 (contrast). |
Jude 1:9
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Μιχαὴλ ὁ ἀρχάγγελος Michaēl ho archangelos ”Michael the archangel” | proper name + title (chief angel) “Michael the archangel” | Contrast figure: even the chief angel shows restraint the false teachers lack | મિખાયેલ મુખ્ય દેવદૂત (Mikhāyel mukhya devdūt) — Low |
| διαβόλῳ diabolō ”devil, slanderer” | the adversary, chief evil spiritual being ”the devil” | The personal, fallen spiritual adversary | શેતાન (śetān) — Medium. Established cross-religious loanword in Gujarati; risk is mild confusion with generic folk ભૂત-પ્રેત (ghost/spirit) beliefs — must be taught as the one specific fallen angelic adversary, not a class of wandering spirits. |
| διακρινόμενος διελέγετο diakrinomenos dielegeto ”disputing, was arguing/reasoning” | to dispute, contend in argument ”disputed,” “contended,” “argued” | Formal legal-style dispute over Moses’ body, not a moral wavering (contrast v.22’s different sense of the same root) | વિવાદ કરી રહ્યો હતો (vivād karī rahyo hato) — Medium. Translator note: διακρίνομαι is polysemous in Jude — here (v.9) “to dispute/contend,” but in v.22 “to waver/doubt.” The Gujarati renderings must differ by context; do not use the same word for both senses. |
| ἐτόλμησεν etolmēsen ”dared” | to be bold enough to, presume to ”dared,” “presumed,” “ventured” | Michael’s restraint — he did NOT presume to pronounce judgment himself | હિંમત ન કરી (himmat na karī) — Low |
βλασφημίας krisin blasphēmias ”a judgment of blasphemy/reviling” | a slanderous verdict, condemnatory accusation ”a reviling accusation,” “a blasphemous judgment” | Even against the devil, proper restraint in pronouncing condemnation | નિંદાભર્યો ન્યાય (nindābharyo nyāya) — Medium |
| Ἐπιτιμήσαι Epitimēsai ”may he rebuke” | to rebuke, reprimand with authority ”rebuke,” “reprove” | Michael defers judgment to the Lord himself | ધમકાવે / ટપારે (dhamkāve / ṭapāre) — Low |
Jude 1:10
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ἄλογα ζῷα aloga zōa ”irrational animals” | creatures without reason, instinct-driven beasts ”unreasoning animals,” “irrational creatures,” “brute beasts” | The false teachers, unlike Michael, act on instinct without reasoned restraint | અવિવેકી પ્રાણીઓ (avivekī prāṇīo) — Low |
| φθείρονται phtheirontai ”are destroyed / corrupted” | to ruin, corrupt, bring to destruction ”are destroyed,” “corrupt themselves,” “are ruined” | Self-inflicted ruin through instinct-driven sin | પોતાનો નાશ કરે છે (potāno nāś kare chhe) — Medium |
Jude 1:11
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| οὐαὶ ouai ”woe” | prophetic pronouncement of judgment/lament ”woe” | A formal prophetic judgment-oracle formula, not casual regret | અફસોસ / હાય (afsos / hāy) — High. Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers. Risk: must retain the weight of a formal prophetic judgment pronouncement (as used by OT prophets and Jesus), not read as a mild expression of pity; Gujarati “અફસોસ” alone can sound too soft — pairing with the surrounding judgment vocabulary (ન્યાય) is necessary. |
| Κάϊν Kain proper name | — “Cain” | First named OT type in this triad | કાઈન — Low |
| πλάνῃ planē ”error, wandering” | deception, straying from truth ”error,” “delusion,” “deceit” | Moral/doctrinal error, not mere factual mistake | ભ્રમણા (bhramaṇā) — Medium. Risk: distinguish from Hindu māyā (cosmic illusion obscuring perception of ultimate reality); here it is a specific, culpable moral departure from God’s revealed will (Balaam’s greed-driven compromise), not an impersonal veil over metaphysical truth. |
| Βαλαὰμ Balaam proper name | — “Balaam” | Second named OT type | બલામ — Low |
| μισθοῦ misthou ”of wage, reward” | payment, hire, recompense ”reward,” “profit,” “wage” | Balaam’s greed-motivated ministry-for-hire | બદલો / મજૂરી (badalo / majūrī) — Medium. Risk: watch for confusion with legitimate spiritual gifts/blessing language (already flagged Medium in baseline for spiritual_gifts) — here μισθός names corrupt profit-motive, the opposite of grace-given ministry. |
| ἀντιλογίᾳ antilogia ”contradiction, rebellion” | organized opposition, rebellious dispute against legitimate authority ”rebellion,” “contradiction,” “insurrection” | Korah’s rebellion against Moses’ God-given authority | બળવો (baḷvo) — Medium |
| Κόρε Korē proper name | — “Korah” | Third named OT type | કોરહ — Low |
| ἀπώλοντο apōlonto ”perished” | destroyed, brought to ruin ”perished,” “were destroyed” | Same root as ἀπόλλυμι in v.5 — consistent judgment-vocabulary across all three named examples | નાશ પામ્યા (nāś pāmyā) — High [see v.5 rationale] |
Jude 1:12
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ἀγάπαις agapais ”love feasts” | communal fellowship meals of the early church ”love feasts,” “your fellowship meals” | Sacred community meals the false teachers were exploiting/corrupting | પ્રીતિભોજન (prīti-bhojan) — Low. Established Gujarati Christian term. |
| σπιλάδες spilades ”hidden reefs” (or, per variant, “blemishes/stains”) | dangerous submerged rocks; alternate reading: moral stains ”hidden reefs,” “blemishes” | Textual variant note: some manuscripts read σπίλοι (“stains/blemishes,” cf. 2 Peter 2:13); this analysis follows σπιλάδες (“hidden reefs”) as in NA28, a maritime-danger image | ખડકો (khaḍako) — Low |
| συνευωχούμενοι syneuōchoumenoi ”feasting together” | to feast/carouse together ”feasting with you,” “carousing together” | Exploiting sacred communal meals for self-indulgence | સાથે મિજબાની કરે છે (sāthe majbānī kare chhe) — Low |
| ποιμαίνοντες poimainontes ”shepherding” | to shepherd, tend, feed a flock ”shepherding themselves,” “feeding only themselves” | Ironic — proper shepherding language (used elsewhere of pastors/elders) turned inward, self-serving | પોતાને જ ચરાવે છે (potāne j charāve chhe) — Medium. Doctrine adjacency: church leadership imagery inverted; must retain the irony that legitimate shepherd-language is being subverted. |
| νεφέλαι ἄνυδροι nephelai anydroi ”waterless clouds” | clouds promising rain but delivering none ”waterless clouds,” “clouds without water” | Image of false promise — teaching that looks substantial but delivers nothing | પાણી વગરનાં વાદળો — Low |
ἐκριζωθέντα dendra akarpa ekrizōthenta ”fruitless trees … uprooted” | barren, dead, uprooted trees ”fruitless trees, uprooted,” “twice dead” | Total spiritual barrenness and finality of judgment (uprooted = no possibility of future fruit) | ફળ વિનાનાં, જડમૂળથી ઉખેડાયેલાં વૃક્ષો — Low |
Jude 1:13
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| κύματα ἄγρια kymata agria ”wild waves” | violent, untamed sea waves ”wild waves” | Uncontrolled, self-exposing turbulence of the false teachers’ conduct | જંગલી મોજાં — Low |
| αἰσχύνας aischynas ”shames” | disgraceful deeds, shameful conduct exposed like sea-foam ”shame,” “shameful deeds” | Their conduct exposes its own disgrace publicly | શરમ (śaram) — Low |
| ἀστέρες πλανῆται asteres planētai ”wandering stars” | stars/celestial bodies that do not hold a fixed course (root of English “planet”) “wandering stars” | Instability and directionlessness — image of teachers who do not lead reliably, unlike a fixed guide-star | ભટકતા તારા (bhaṭaktā tārā) — Medium. Risk: mild potential overlap with Gujarati astrological (જ્યોતિષ) frameworks reading planetary movement as destiny-bearing; here the image is simply moral instability, not astrological fate. |
| ζόφος τοῦ σκότους zophos tou skotous ”gloom of darkness” | intensified darkness (doubled term) “blackest darkness,” “utter gloom” | Final, unending confinement of the false teachers | [REUSED ROOT FROM v.6] ઘોર અંધકાર — Low |
| τετήρηται tetērētai ”has been reserved / kept” | same root as v.6, v.1, v.21 ”has been reserved,” “is kept” | Third occurrence of the τηρέω keyword-chain, again in the negative/judgment sense | જાળવી રખાયો છે — High [see v.6 rationale — same term must be used consistently across the whole keyword-chain] |
Jude 1:14–15
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Προεφήτευσεν Proephēteusen ”prophesied” | to speak by divine inspiration, especially of future events ”prophesied” | Enoch’s ancient prophecy, cited as authoritative | [REUSED ROOT FROM BASELINE TM — ભવિષ્યવાણી] ભવિષ્યવાણી કરી — Low |
| Ἑνὼχ Henōch proper name | — “Enoch” | Pre-flood patriarch, cited source of the quoted prophecy | હનોખ (established OT form) — Low |
| μυριάσιν myriasin ”myriads, ten-thousands” | an innumerably large host ”myriads,” “thousands upon thousands” | The Lord’s vast angelic army accompanying his coming judgment | અસંખ્ય પવિત્ર દૂતો (asaṅkhya pavitra dūto) — Low |
| κρίσιν krisin ”judgment” | see vv.4,6 ”judgment” | The universal, final judgment | [REUSED — see v.4] ન્યાય — High |
| ἐλέγξαι elegxai ”to convict, expose” | to expose wrongdoing, bring to light and reprove ”convict,” “expose,” “condemn” | God’s final exposure of every hidden ungodly deed | દોષિત સાબિત કરવા (doṣit sābit karavā) — Medium |
| ἀσεβεῖς / ἀσέβειας / ἠσέβησαν asebeis / asebeias / ēsebēsan ”ungodly / ungodliness / acted ungodly” | see v.4 — fourfold repetition in this single verse ”ungodly,” “ungodliness,” “acted in an ungodly way” | The letter’s central accusation, repeated for rhetorical emphasis | [REUSED — see v.4] પરમેશ્વરવિહોણા (and verb/noun forms) — Critical |
| σκληρῶν sklērōn ”harsh things” | rough, insolent, defiant speech ”harsh words,” “harsh things” | Defiant speech directed against God himself | કઠોર શબ્દો (kaṭhor śabdo) — Low |
| ἁμαρτωλοὶ hamartōloi ”sinners” | those characterized by moral transgression ”sinners” | Combined with ἀσεβεῖς for maximal rhetorical weight: “ungodly sinners” | [REUSED ROOT FROM BASELINE TM — પાપ] પાપીઓ (pāpīo) — Medium |
Jude 1:16
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| γογγυσταί gongystai ”grumblers” | chronic complainers (same root as Israel’s wilderness grumbling) “grumblers,” “murmurers” | Deliberate echo of Israel’s wilderness grumbling (linking back to v.5’s warning) | બડબડનારા (baḍbaḍnārā) — Low |
| μεμψίμοιροι mempsimoiroi ”fault-finders” | those dissatisfied with their lot, chronic complainers about circumstance ”complainers,” “malcontents” | Persistent dissatisfaction and blame-shifting | ફરિયાદ કરનારા (fariyād karnārā) — Low |
| ἐπιθυμίας epithymias ”desires, lusts” | strong craving, often illicit desire ”lusts,” “desires,” “passions” | Governing motive of the false teachers’ conduct | દુષ્ટ ઇચ્છા (duṣṭ icchā) — High. Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers. Risk: the more common Gujarati word વાસના is deliberately rejected — in both Hindu Yoga philosophy and Jain thought, vāsanā is a technical term for latent karmic impressions carried over from past lives, driving future rebirth impersonally. Biblical ἐπιθυμία is a present, morally culpable craving of the will against God’s revealed will in this life, not a metaphysical residue from prior existences. |
| ὑπέρογκα hyperogka ”bombastic, swollen things” | grandiose, inflated, arrogant speech ”bombastic words,” “boastful words,” “great swelling words” | Empty, self-glorifying rhetoric | મોટી મોટી વાતો (moṭī moṭī vāto) — Low |
| θαυμάζοντες πρόσωπα thaumazontes prosōpa ”admiring faces” | flattery, partiality, showing favoritism for gain ”flattering people,” “showing favoritism” | Manipulative flattery for personal advantage | ખુશામત કરવી (khuśāmat karavī) — Medium |
| ὠφελείας ōpheleias ”of advantage, profit” | material gain, benefit ”advantage,” “profit,” “gain” | Self-serving motive behind the flattery | લાભ (lābh) — Low |
Jude 1:17–18
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ἀποστόλων apostolōn ”of the apostles” | commissioned, sent authoritative messengers ”apostles” | Authoritative apostolic prediction that such teachers would arise | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] પ્રેરિતો — Medium |
| ἐσχάτου χρόνου eschatou chronou ”of the last time” | the final period before Christ’s return ”the last time,” “the last days” | Eschatological framing of the present crisis | છેલ્લા સમયમાં (chhellā samayamā) — Medium. Risk: must read as the final, linear stage before Christ’s return, not as one more turn within an endless yuga/kalpa cycle. |
| ἐμπαῖκται empaiktai ”mockers, scoffers” | those who deride, ridicule with contempt ”mockers,” “scoffers” | Predicted character of end-time false teachers | મશ્કરી કરનારા (maśkarī karnārā) — Medium |
| ἐπιθυμίας epithymias ”desires” | see v.16 ”lusts,” “desires” | Same governing motive repeated | [REUSED — see v.16] દુષ્ટ ઇચ્છા — High |
Jude 1:19
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ἀποδιορίζοντες apodiorizontes ”causing divisions” | to create factions, draw divisive boundary-lines ”causing divisions,” “who create divisions” | The false teachers fracture the community | ભાગલા પાડનારા (bhāgalā pāḍnārā) — Medium |
| ψυχικοί psychikoi ”soulish, natural” | pertaining to unregenerate human nature apart from the Spirit; “natural” as opposed to “spiritual" "worldly-minded,” “sensual,” “natural,” “devoid of the Spirit” | Describes a person operating on merely human, unregenerate capacity, lacking the Spirit’s life | દુન્યવી (dunyavī) — High. Doctrine: Judgment on Ungodly False Teachers / Sanctification (by contrast). Risk: the natural cognate સાંસારિક (sāṅsārik) is deliberately rejected — it derives from સંસાર (samsara), the core Hindu/Jain technical term for the cycle of worldly rebirth-existence, which would import an entire foreign cosmology into a verse that is simply distinguishing unregenerate human nature from Spirit-indwelt life. દુન્યવી (from a Persian/Urdu root meaning “of this world”) conveys “merely natural/worldly” without invoking samsara. |
| πνεῦμα μὴ ἔχοντες pneuma mē echontes ”not having [the] Spirit” | lacking the indwelling Holy Spirit ”not having the Spirit,” “devoid of the Spirit” | These teachers lack the regenerating, indwelling Holy Spirit — this is the decisive line between true and false teachers in the letter | પવિત્ર આત્મા વિનાના (Pavitra Ātmā vinānā) — High. Risk: rendering the bare πνεῦμα here as merely “આત્મા” risks being heard as “they have no soul,” a doctrinally confused statement (all humans have a soul in biblical anthropology). Supplying પવિત્ર (as in the baseline’s established Holy Spirit term) disambiguates: this is the absence of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence, not a denial of human ensoulment. |
Jude 1:20–21
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
πίστει hagiōtatē pistei ”most holy faith” (superlative) | the sacred, set-apart body of apostolic doctrine, in its highest degree ”most holy faith” | The same objective “faith” of v.3, now called “most holy” — reinforcing its sacred, unrepeatable, entrusted character | [REUSED — see v.3] અતિ પવિત્ર વિશ્વાસ (ati pavitra viśvās) — High |
| ἐποικοδομοῦντες epoikodomountes ”building up” | constructing upward, edifying ”building yourselves up,” “building up” | Positive discipline of continual growth in the faith, contrasted with the destructive false teachers | ઉન્નતિ કરવી (unnati karavī) — Low. Consistent with baseline’s mutual_edification doctrine language. |
| πνεύματι ἁγίῳ pneumati hagiō ”in [the] Holy Spirit” | the third Person of the Trinity ”Holy Spirit” | Direct contrast with v.19’s “not having the Spirit” | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] પવિત્ર આત્મા — Critical |
| προσευχόμενοι proseuchomenoi ”praying” | to pray, address God in prayer ”praying” | Spirit-enabled prayer, part of the positive discipline | પ્રાર્થના કરવી (prārthanā karavī) — Low |
| ἀγάπῃ θεοῦ agapē theou ”in the love of God” | God’s covenant love, and/or the believer’s love for God (debated: objective/subjective genitive) “love of God,” “God’s love” | The relational sphere in which believers are to keep/preserve themselves | [REUSED — see PART 2 discussion of ἀγάπη] પરમેશ્વરનો પ્રેમ — High |
| τηρήσατε tērēsate ”keep! guard!” (imperative) | see vv.1,6,13 — the keyword’s fourth occurrence, now as a command to believers themselves ”keep yourselves,” “maintain yourselves” | The one human-side imperative in the τηρέω keyword-chain: believers are commanded to actively remain within God’s love, even though ultimate keeping is God’s sovereign work (v.24) — a both/and, not either/or | જાળવી રાખો (jāḷavī rākho) — High [same rendering as vv.1,6,13 for chain consistency]. Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless. Risk: this imperative must not collapse into self-effort salvation (contending against the letter’s clear teaching that ultimate keeping is God’s act, v.24); nor should the imperative be flattened into pure passivity. Teaching notes should clarify the human responsibility operates within, not instead of, God’s preserving grace. |
| προσδεχόμενοι prosdechomenoi ”awaiting, expecting” | to wait for expectantly, look forward to ”waiting for,” “looking for,” “awaiting” | Hopeful, confident expectation, not passive fatalism | રાહ જોવી (rāh jovī) — Medium |
| ἔλεος eleos ”mercy” | see v.2 ”mercy” | Final mercy at Christ’s return, consummating the mercy shown throughout the letter | [REUSED — see v.2/PART 2] દયા — High |
| ζωὴν αἰώνιον zōēn aiōnion ”eternal life” | unending life in God’s presence ”eternal life,” “everlasting life” | The final hope toward which all this discipline is directed | અનંત જીવન (anant jīvan) — Medium. Risk: the more common devotional-register alternative સનાતન જીવન is deliberately rejected — સનાતન is closely bound to “Sanatan Dharma,” the prominent contemporary Hindu self-designation for the eternal religious/cosmic order; અનંત (endless/infinite) avoids this branding while still conveying unending duration. |
Jude 1:22–23
Textual note: Jude 1:22–23 has notable manuscript variation regarding the number and boundaries of the three clauses. This analysis follows the widely used NA28/UBS three-part reading (mercy to the doubting; snatch others from the fire; mercy with fear to others) reflected above.
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| ἐλεᾶτε eleate ”show mercy” (imperative) | to have compassion and act on it ”have mercy on,” “be merciful to” | Central positive command of the doctrine “Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering” — twice repeated in this short span | દયા કરો (dayā karo) — High. Doctrine: Mercy and Rescue of the Wavering. Risk: the more common Gujarati compassion-vocabulary can be absorbed into Jain ahimsa-based universal compassion (karuna), a self-generated ethical virtue extended toward all beings as a mark of one’s own spiritual advancement. Biblical mercy here is a directed, active rescue-response modeled on God’s own initiating mercy toward sinners (v.2, v.21), not a generalized virtue cultivated for one’s own soul’s benefit. |
| διακρινομένους diakrinomenous ”those who are doubting/wavering” | to be divided in mind, waver, hesitate ”who are doubting,” “who waver,” “who are wavering in faith” | The specific target of the first mercy-command: believers wavering under the false teachers’ influence, not yet lost | શંકામાં પડેલા (śaṅkāmā paḍelā) — Medium. Translator note: same Greek root as v.9’s διακρινόμενος (“disputing”) but a different sense here (inward wavering, not outward dispute) — render with a distinct Gujarati phrase for each occurrence. |
| σῴζετε sōzete ”save!” (imperative) | see v.5 ”save,” “rescue” | Urgent rescue of those more seriously endangered | ઉદ્ધાર કરો (uddhār karo) — Critical [see v.5 rationale] |
| ἐκ πυρὸς ἁρπάζοντες ek pyros harpazontes ”snatching out of fire” | forcibly, urgently pulling to safety from danger ”snatching them out of the fire” | Vivid urgency image — active, risk-taking rescue, echoing the eternal fire of v.7 | અગ્નિમાંથી ખેંચી લેવું (agnimāṅthī khēṅchī levũ) — Medium |
| ἐν φόβῳ en phobō ”with fear” | with caution, reverent carefulness ”with fear,” “with caution” | Rescuers must proceed carefully, not carelessly exposing themselves to the same corruption | બીક સાથે / સાવધાનીથી (bīk sāthe / sāvdhānīthī) — Low |
| μισοῦντες misountes ”hating” | to detest, have aversion to ”hating,” “abhorring” | Strong aversion to sin itself, even while rescuing the sinner | નફરત કરવી (nafrat karavī) — Low |
| ἐσπιλωμένον χιτῶνα espilōmenon chitōna ”stained garment” | defiled clothing, image of moral contamination by association ”garment stained by the flesh,” “defiled clothing” | Caution against being morally contaminated even in the act of rescue | મેલું વસ્ત્ર (melũ vastra) — Medium |
PART 2 — Remainder of Chapter 1: Salutation and Doxology (Jude 1:1–2, 24–25)
Jude is a single-chapter book. Verses 3–23 (the entire body of the letter) received full verse-by-verse treatment in Part 1 above. This section completes full-book coverage by treating the only remaining verses: the opening salutation (1:1–2) and the closing doxology (1:24–25).
Jude 1:1–2
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| δοῦλος doulos ”slave, bondservant” | one owned by and obligated to serve a master, without personal autonomy ”servant,” “slave,” “bondservant” | Jude’s self-designation of total, purchased belonging to Christ — apostolic-style humility-authority | દાસ (dās) — Medium-High. Risk: Gujarat’s Vaishnav bhakti poetic tradition (e.g., devotional poets historically signing verses ”___ dāsa” of Krishna or another chosen personal deity) uses this exact self-designation for devotee-surrender to any freely chosen personal god (iṣṭa-devatā). Teaching must clarify: Jude’s δοῦλος status flows from Christ’s unique, exclusive lordship over all (established already as Critical in the baseline’s lord/κύριος entry) and from a specific redemptive purchase, not from personal devotional preference among many possible objects of bhakti. |
| ἀδελφὸς adelphos ”brother” | sibling; by extension, fellow believer or blood relation ”brother” | Jude identifies himself by his blood relation to James (likely the Lord’s brother/apostolic leader), grounding his authority | ભાઈ (bhāī) — Low |
| θεῷ πατρὶ theō patri ”God the Father” | — “God the Father” | Combines two established terms | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] પરમેશ્વર પિતા — Critical |
| ἠγαπημένοις ēgapēmenois ”having been loved” (perfect passive participle) | loved with settled, completed action bearing ongoing result ”beloved,” “who are loved,” “who have been loved” | Believers’ identity is grounded in God’s prior, completed act of love, not their own achievement | પ્રેમ પામેલા (prem pāmelā) — High [see ἀγάπη discussion below] |
| Ἰησοῦ Χριστῷ τετηρημένοις Iēsou Christō tetērēmenois ”kept for/by Jesus Christ” | preserved, guarded (perfect passive) “kept for Jesus Christ,” “kept by Jesus Christ” | The VERY FIRST occurrence of the letter’s τηρέω keyword-chain (see vv.6,13,21,24) — believers’ security is grounded in being kept by/for Christ from the letter’s opening line | ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્ત માટે જાળવી રખાયેલા — High [establishes the keyword rendering used consistently through vv.6,13,21] |
| κλητοῖς klētois ”called ones” | summoned by God ”called,” “those who are called” | Effectual, sovereign divine summons | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] તેડાયેલા — High |
| ἔλεος eleos ”mercy” | see full discussion at v.22 ”mercy” | Opening greeting-triad, first occurrence | દયા (dayā) — High [see v.22 rationale] |
| εἰρήνη eirēnē ”peace” | relational peace with God ”peace” | Standard apostolic greeting element | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] શાંતિ — Medium |
| ἀγάπη agapē ”love” | God’s self-giving, covenantal love (as opposed to romantic or merely affectionate love) “love” | Third element of the greeting-triad | પ્રેમ (prem) — High. Doctrine risk (applies to every occurrence of ἀγάπη in Jude: 1:2, 1:12, 1:21): Gujarat’s Vaishnav bhakti tradition possesses an extremely rich and culturally dominant devotional literature of prem-bhakti centered on the romantic love of Radha and Krishna, in which “prem” primarily evokes passionate romantic/erotic devotional longing. Biblical ἀγάπη is selfless, covenantal, self-giving love flowing from God’s own character and demonstrated at the cross — not romantic passion, however sublimated. Every occurrence of આગાપે-love in Jude should be anchored by context (God’s love, brotherly love, love-feasts as community meals) to avoid the Krishna-bhakti romantic frame. |
| πληθυνθείη plēthyntheiē ”may it be multiplied” (optative, wish) | to increase, be made abundant ”be multiplied,” “increase,” “be yours in abundance” | A prayer-wish for abundant increase of mercy, peace, and love | વૃદ્ધિ પામો (vṛddhi pāmo) — Low |
Jude 1:24–25
| Terms | Variants | Theological Meaning in Context | Gujarati Rendering & Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| δυναμένῳ dynamenō ”to the one who is able” | having power/capability to accomplish ”who is able,” “who has power” | Grounds the whole doxology in God’s competent, sufficient power to accomplish what the letter has commanded believers to do (v.21) but ultimately cannot achieve by themselves | સમર્થ (samarth) — Medium. Consistent root with baseline’s power_of_god entry (પરમેશ્વરનું સામર્થ્ય); never શક્તિ (Shakti-goddess collision documented in baseline). |
| φυλάξαι phylaxai ”to guard, keep” | to protect from harm, watch over (distinct Greek root from τηρέω, though overlapping sense) “to keep,” “to guard,” “to protect” | The letter’s climactic statement of divine keeping-power — this is God’s own, unconditional, competent guarding, distinct from (though complementary to) the believer’s responsibility to “keep” themselves in v.21 | રક્ષણ કરવું (rakṣaṇ karavũ) — High. Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless / Doxology and God’s Preserving Power. Risk: while sharing the doctrinal territory of τηρέω, φυλάσσω is a distinct Greek word and should receive a distinct Gujarati verb (રક્ષણ કરવું, “to protect/guard,” rather than reusing જાળવી રાખવું) so that the “human responsibility to keep” (v.21, τηρέω) and “God’s sovereign power to guard” (v.24, φυλάσσω) remain both linked and distinguishable. Must not be read as the soul’s own self-guarding through ascetic vow-keeping (Jain saṃvara); this is God’s action toward the believer, not the believer’s self-protection technique. |
| ἀπταίστους aptaistous ”without stumbling” | not tripping, falling, or failing morally ”from stumbling,” “without stumbling,” “free from falling” | The guaranteed outcome of God’s guarding — a life brought safely through to the end without ultimate moral failure | લપસ્યા વિના (lapasyā vinā) — Medium |
| στήσαι κατενώπιον τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ stēsai katenōpion tēs doxēs autou ”to set/present before his glory” | to place someone standing in the immediate presence of glory ”to present you in the presence of his glory,” “to make you stand before his glory” | Final presentation of believers directly before God’s own glory — echoes forensic/ceremonial presentation imagery | તેમના મહિમા સમક્ષ રજૂ કરવો (temnā mahimā samakṣa rajū karavo) — Medium |
| ἀμώμους amōmous ”blameless, without blemish” | unblemished, spotless, without moral fault (originally a sacrificial-purity term, of unblemished offerings) “blameless,” “without fault,” “without blemish” | The believer’s final state before God: entirely without moral defect — an achieved state, but achieved BY God’s keeping power (φυλάξαι), not the believer’s own effort | નિષ્કલંક (niṣkalaṅk) — Critical. Doctrine: Kept by God and Presented Blameless. Risk: this is a direct structural parallel to the collision the baseline already documents for grace/nirjara and salvation/kevala-jñāna. Jain doctrine describes the soul’s ultimate state (kevala-jñāna/siddhatva, already forbidden renderings for “salvation” in the baseline) as the soul becoming entirely free of adhering karmic stain (karma-mala) through the soul’s own multi-lifetime ascetic effort (nirjara/tapa). ἄμωμος in Jude 1:24 describes a strikingly similar END-STATE image — “unstained,” “unblemished” — but reached by the OPPOSITE MECHANISM: God himself presents the believer blameless by his own guarding power, not the believer’s accumulated self-purification. Every occurrence of this term requires an explicit teaching note distinguishing the shared “unblemished” imagery from the completely different, self-effort Jain mechanism for reaching it. |
| ἀγαλλιάσει agalliasei ”exultation, great joy” | intense, exuberant joy ”great joy,” “exultation,” “rejoicing” | The joyful tone in which believers will be presented — not fear, but celebratory joy | ઉલ્લાસ (ullās) — Low |
| μόνῳ θεῷ monō theō ”to the only God” | exclusive, sole deity ”the only God,” “to God alone” | Reinforces strict monotheism — echoing μόνον δεσπότην of v.4 | [REUSED — see v.4] એકમાત્ર પરમેશ્વર — High |
| σωτῆρι sōtēri ”Savior” | one who rescues/delivers ”Savior” | God (and derivatively Christ, through whom the doxology is offered) as the one who accomplishes the σωτηρία of v.3 | ઉદ્ધારક (uddhārak) — Critical. Doctrine: Doxology and God’s Preserving Power / Salvation. Risk: derived consistently from the baseline’s established ઉદ્ધાર (salvation) root. Specific collision to flag: the Jain title “Tīrthaṅkara” literally means “ford-maker/crossing-maker” — a figure who shows the way across the river of saṃsāra but requires each soul to make the actual crossing by its own effort. σωτήρ (“Savior”) is a close functional parallel in surface concept (one who enables crossing from bondage to freedom) but is theologically opposite in mechanism: the biblical Savior himself accomplishes the deliverance for the one saved, rather than merely showing/teaching a path each soul must walk unaided. This distinction should be made explicit whenever σωτήρ is taught in Jude 1:25. |
| διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν dia Iēsou Christou tou kyriou hēmōn ”through Jesus Christ our Lord” | the mediating agent through whom the doxology is offered to God ”through Jesus Christ our Lord” | Christ as the mediating channel of this praise to God — Trinitarian shape of the doxology | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્ત આપણા પ્રભુ દ્વારા — Critical |
| δόξα doxa ”glory” | see baseline entry ”glory” | First term of the fourfold doxological list | [REUSED FROM BASELINE TM] મહિમા — High |
| μεγαλωσύνη megalōsynē ”majesty, greatness” | grandeur, sovereign greatness ”majesty,” “greatness” | Second term, distinct from δόξα | મહાનતા (mahānatā) — Low |
| κράτος kratos ”might, dominion” | effective ruling power, sovereign strength (root of English “-cracy” as in “democracy”) “power,” “dominion,” “might” | Third term, denoting active sovereign strength distinct from δύναμις (ability) and ἐξουσία (authority/right) | પરાક્રમ (parākram) — Medium |
| ἐξουσία exousia ”authority” | legitimate right/power to act, sanctioned authority ”authority,” “power,” “dominion” | Fourth term, denoting legitimate right to rule | અધિકાર (adhikār) — Medium |
| πρὸ παντὸς τοῦ αἰῶνος καὶ νῦν καὶ εἰς πάντας τοὺς αἰῶνας pro pantos tou aiōnos kai nyn kai eis pantas tous aiōnas ”before all time, and now, and forever” | eternity past, present, and eternity future ”before all time… now and forevermore” | Comprehensive, linear eternity — before creation, in the present, unendingly into the future | સદાકાળ પહેલાં, હમણાં અને સદાસર્વકાળ સુધી (sadākāḷ pahelā, hamaṇā ane sadā sarvakāḷ sudhī) — Medium. Risk: consistent with rejecting સનાતન (see v.21 ζωὴν αἰώνιον note) for its Hindu “Sanatan Dharma” branding; also must be read as a single linear timeline (past-present-future), not a repeating cosmic cycle (see fulfillment_of_prophecy doctrine risk already documented in the baseline for this same cyclical-time collision). |
| ἀμήν amēn ”amen” | affirmation, “so be it,” “truly" "Amen” | Closing liturgical affirmation | [ESTABLISHED TRANSLITERATION per baseline AI requirements doc] આમીન — Low |
Summary of Full-Book Coverage
Jude 1:1–25 has now received complete verse-by-verse treatment: the salutation (1:1–2), the entire letter body (1:3–23, the designated core passage), and the closing doxology (1:24–25). No verse of the book has been left unexamined. The recurring τηρέω/φυλάσσω “keeping” keyword-chain (1:1, 1:6, 1:13, 1:21, 1:24) has been tracked across all five occurrences to ensure a theologically consistent Gujarati rendering strategy is available for Phase 2 translation.
