CRITICAL: אֲדֹנָי (Adonai) is the traditional spoken substitute for the unpronounced Tetragrammaton (YHWH) itself - the most sacred stand-in for God’s own personal name. Applying Adon-level lordship to Jesus in Romans 10:9 is doctrinally exact (echoing Joel 2:32’s YHWH-language quoted in 10:13) but requires care not to be heard as either overreaching into the sacred Name’s territory carelessly, or undershooting into the merely mundane ‘adoni, sir’ sense used for human masters throughout Tanakh.
