Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 1 Corinthians (English → Turkish)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, organized by chapter of first occurrence. [TM-REUSE] marks terms already fixed in the baseline Romans Language Package (translation_memory.json / bible_term_registry.json) that MUST be used exactly as recorded. [NEW] marks terms first introduced by this curriculum, with a proposed Turkish rendering and risk tier consistent with baseline conventions. All Critical and High risk NEW terms below are candidates for immediate addition to translation_memory.json in Phase 1 Step 2.

Summary Risk Distribution (This Curriculum’s New Terms Only)
| Risk Tier | Count of [NEW] terms |
|---|---|
| Critical | 8 |
| High | 17 |
| Medium | 20 |
| Low | 16 |
Critical [NEW] terms requiring mandatory theologian review on every occurrence: Died (ἀπέθανεν), Buried (ἐτάφη), Foolishness of the cross (μωρία), Food sacrificed to idols (εἰδωλόθυτα), Cup of the Lord/cup of demons, Head covering (κατακαλύπτεσθαι), Let women keep silent (14:34-35), Spiritual body/natural body (15:44).
[TM-REUSE] terms escalated in risk tier for this curriculum: Head/κεφαλή (High → Critical, given 11:2-16’s compounding of the Ephesians 5:23 sensitivity with the başörtüsü cultural-political collision); Cross/crucified (Medium implied elsewhere → Critical, given its confessional-formula role parallel to the ch.15 creed).
This glossary must be merged into translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json in Phase 1 Step 2, with version increments and theologian-review flags preserved exactly as marked above.
Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness
Approved rendering: Doğruluk
Transliteration: doh-roo-LOOK
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: salih amel (righteous deeds), adalet (justice, generic)
Never salih amel; a status received by faith, not a deeds-ledger outcome. Inherited from Romans package baseline; relevant to 1:30 (‘Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness’).
Justification
Approved rendering: Aklanma
Transliteration: ahk-lahn-MAH
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: günahların affı (forgiveness of sins, alone), temize çıkma (colloquial ‘being cleared’)
Forensic, declared-righteous status. Inherited from Romans package baseline; the verbal cognate ἐδικαιώθητε (6:11, aklandınız) must retain this exact forensic force, never collapsed into mere ritual washing.
Salvation
Approved rendering: Kurtuluş
Transliteration: koor-too-LOOSH
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: cennete girmek (entering paradise, as the whole content), necat (Ottoman/Arabic register)
Original: σῴζεσθε
Category: Salvation
Present, Christ-secured deliverance, not a deferred Judgment-Day hope. Inherited from Romans package baseline; the present-passive σῴζεσθε (15:2, ‘you are being saved’) requires this ongoing-yet-secured sense.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: Diriliş
Transliteration: dee-ree-LEESH
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: göğe yükseliş (ascension, alone), ruhsal diriliş (spiritual-only revival)
Original: ἐγήγερται / ἀνάστασις
Category: Resurrection of Christ
CRITICAL: must affirm real bodily death followed by bodily resurrection; never a no-death ascension (Qur’an 4:157). Inherited from Romans package baseline; 1 Corinthians 15 is this Language Package’s single most extensive treatment of this doctrine, from the core-passage creed (15:3-4) through the conditional argument (15:12-19) to the resurrection-body material (15:35-58).
Lord
Approved rendering: Rab
Transliteration: RAHB
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: efendi (master, non-divine), üstat (teacher/master)
Exclusive, supreme divine authority. Inherited from Romans package baseline; the Spirit-given confession ‘Jesus is Lord’ (İsa Rab’dir, 12:3) must render identically to Romans 10:9.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın Oğlu
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn oh-LOO
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Tanrı’nın sevgili kulu (God’s beloved servant), kutsal kişi (holy person)
Full phrase required, never softened. Inherited from Romans package baseline; relevant to 1:9 (‘fellowship of his Son’) and 15:28 (‘the Son himself will be subjected’).
Messiah
Approved rendering: Mesih
Transliteration: meh-SEEH
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: sadece bir peygamber (merely a prophet)
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Never a bare honorific; full OT king-priest-savior content required. Inherited from Romans package baseline; the subject of the 15:3-8 creed and used throughout the letter (e.g., 1:23-24, ‘Christ crucified’).
Jesus
Approved rendering: İsa
Transliteration: ee-SAH
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘İsa Peygamber’ (Prophet Jesus, without Mesih)
CRITICAL: always pair with Mesih; never use İsa alone in doctrinally significant contexts. Inherited from Romans package baseline; applies throughout 1 Corinthians, especially the confessional formulas of 12:3 and 15:3.
God
Approved rendering: Tanrı
Transliteration: tahn-RUH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Allah (theologically usable but politically/socially contested for Christian texts in some contexts)
Established Kitabı Mukaddes convention. Inherited from Romans package baseline; used throughout 1 Corinthians without exception.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Kutsal Ruh
Transliteration: koot-SAHL ROOH
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: Cebrail (the archangel Gabriel)
CRITICAL: never Cebrail; the third Person of the Trinity, fully God, not an angel. Inherited from Romans package baseline; central to 2:10-16, 3:16, 6:19, and the whole of chapters 12 and 14.
Father
Approved rendering: Baba
Transliteration: bah-BAH
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: Yaratıcı (Creator, as a substitute to avoid relational language)
Never retreat to Yaratıcı. Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 8:6 (‘one God, the Father, from whom all things came’) and 15:24 (delivering the kingdom ‘to God the Father’).
Circumcision
Approved rendering: Sünnet
Transliteration: soon-NET
Doctrine: Circumcision and the New Creation
Rejected alternatives: no viable alternative word exists; risk is mitigated by mandatory qualification, not substitution
Inherited from the Galatians package extension of the Romans baseline. Sünnet is identically spelled to Sünnet (the Prophet’s normative example) and names a major communal celebration (sünnet düğünü); qualify as ‘bedensel sünnet’ on first use per lesson. Used at 1 Corinthians 7:18-19, where Paul states plainly that neither circumcision nor its absence matters for Christian standing — consistent with, not contradicting, the Galatians teaching.
Head
Approved rendering: baş
Transliteration: BAHSH
Doctrine: Christ’s Supremacy and Headship / Order in Worship
Inherited from the Ephesians package extension of the Romans baseline (there High risk, 1:22; 4:15; 5:23). ESCALATED to Critical for 1 Corinthians: 11:3’s use (‘the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God’) sits directly upstream of the head-covering passage’s cultural-political sensitivity (see head_covering below) and requires the SAME mandatory theologian AND native-speaker review discipline as Ephesians 5:23, never used to license coercive authority.
Cross Crucified
Approved rendering: Çarmıh / çarmıha gerilmiş
Transliteration: char-MUH / char-muh-HAH geh-reel-MEESH
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: sürgü/haç (less standard for this context)
Original: σταυρός / ἐσταυρωμένος
Category: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Inherited from the Galatians package extension of the Romans baseline (there Medium risk). ESCALATED to Critical for 1 Corinthians: ‘Christ crucified’ (Χριστὸν ἐσταυρωμένον, 1:23; cf. 2:2) functions as a compressed confessional formula parallel to the fuller 15:3-8 creed; must retain the completed-past-event force (a real, historical death by crucifixion) consistently with the chapter 15 death doctrine, and must never support a no-death reading.
Foolishness Of The Cross
Approved rendering: çılgınlık / akılsızlık
Transliteration: chuhl-guhn-LUHK / ah-kuhl-suhz-LUHK
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: anlaşılmaz (merely ‘hard to understand,’ a euphemistic softening)
Original: μωρία
Category: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
NEW, Critical. μωρία, the scandalous, absurd-seeming quality of a crucified Messiah from first-century Jewish and Greek standpoints alike (1:18, 21, 23, 25). Engages Qur’an 4:157’s denial of the crucifixion from a different angle than the resurrection doctrine: Paul affirms the crucifixion is genuinely scandalous and insists on it anyway, rather than requiring theological defense-by-denial. Must never be softened to make the cross seem less scandalous or more immediately reasonable — the offense itself is the doctrinal point. 1 Corinthians 1:18, 21, 23, 25.
Washed Sanctified Justified
Approved rendering: yıkandınız, kutsandınız, aklandınız
Transliteration: yuh-kahn-duh-NUHZ, koot-sahn-duh-NUHZ, ahk-lahn-duh-NUHZ
Doctrine: Justification, Sanctification, and Washing
Rejected alternatives: sequential-stages framing (washed, THEN sanctified, THEN justified)
Original: ἀπελούσασθε, ἡγιάσθητε, ἐδικαιώθητε
Category: Justification by Faith
NEW, Critical. ἀπελούσασθε, ἡγιάσθητε, ἐδικαιώθητε (6:11), the three-part declaration of the believer’s transformed status. Aklandınız (justification) reuses the Romans baseline exactly and is Critical: must retain the forensic, declared-righteous sense, never collapsed into mere ritual washing (which yıkandınız alone might suggest to a reader thinking of ritual ablution/ghusl). All three verbs must be taught as three distinct but simultaneous realities, not sequential stages. 1 Corinthians 6:11.
Food Sacrificed To Idols
Approved rendering: puta sunulan kurban eti
Transliteration: poo-TAH soo-noo-LAHN koor-BAHN eh-TEE
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Rejected alternatives: haram et / helal olmayan et (imports the Islamic lawful/unlawful dietary category)
Original: εἰδωλόθυτα
Category: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
NEW, Critical. εἰδωλόθυτα, meat from animals ritually offered to pagan deities, afterward sold in the marketplace or served at social/temple meals (8:1); the central practical controversy of chapters 8-10. Requires exceptionally careful handling because of a strong surface-parallel collision with the Islamic helal/haram dietary framework, where foods are categorically forbidden by divine law regardless of the eater’s private knowledge or conscience. Paul’s governing category is love and conscience-care for weaker believers (8:9-13), NOT legal purity/impurity; a Turkish reader defaulting to the helal/haram frame will misread this entire section without explicit, mandatory distinguishing teaching material. Never render using helal/haram vocabulary. 1 Corinthians 8:1-13.
Cup Of The Lord And Demons
Approved rendering: Rab’bin kâsesi / cinlerin kâsesi
Transliteration: rahb-BEEN kyah-seh-SEE / jeen-leh-REEN kyah-seh-SEE
Doctrine: Idolatry and Participatory Spiritual Danger
Original: τὸ ποτήριον τοῦ κυρίου / τὸ ποτήριον δαιμονίων
Category: The Lord’s Supper
NEW, Critical. τὸ ποτήριον τοῦ κυρίου / τὸ ποτήριον δαιμονίων, the sharp, mutually exclusive contrast between participation in the Lord’s Supper and participation in pagan cultic meals (10:21). δαιμόνιον rendered as cinler directly engages live Turkish/Islamic folk-cosmology vocabulary already flagged in the Ephesians package’s armor_of_god entry. Asserts these beings are real and that partaking of their ‘table’ is genuinely spiritually dangerous and incompatible with Christ’s table — a point of striking resonance with, not contradiction of, the Islamic affirmation that cin are real while worship belongs to God (Tanrı) alone. Teaching material must note the resonance without conflating the two cosmological frameworks wholesale. 1 Corinthians 10:21.
Head Covering
Approved rendering: örtünmek / örtü
Transliteration: ur-tyoon-MEK / ur-TYOO
Doctrine: Order in Worship: Head Covering
Rejected alternatives: başörtüsü (the specific, politically branded contemporary Turkish term), tesettür (Islamic legal-devotional modesty-dress category)
Original: κατακαλύπτεσθαι / περιβόλαιον
Category: Order in Worship
NEW, Critical. κατακαλύπτεσθαι / περιβόλαιον, the disputed head-covering instruction for women praying/prophesying, contrasted with men’s uncovered head (11:4-7, 15). Without qualification, the single most culturally and politically sensitive term-choice in the entire 1 Corinthians package for a Turkish destination context, given decades of intense Turkish political, legal, and social controversy over the başörtüsü (headscarf). A careless rendering risks being read as commentary FOR OR AGAINST the başörtüsü specifically, or as evidence Christianity mandates or forbids female head-covering as a fixed rule. NEVER use başörtüsü (the specific contemporary political term) or tesettür (the Islamic legal-devotional category); örtünmek/örtü is chosen precisely for its lack of specific religious-legal loading. MANDATORY human theologian AND native-speaker review for every occurrence, with teaching material historically anchoring the passage and explicitly declining to make it commentary on the contemporary Turkish debate in either direction. 1 Corinthians 11:4-7, 15.
Lords Supper
Approved rendering: Rab’bin Sofrası
Transliteration: rahb-BEEN sohf-rah-SUH
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: δεῖπνον κυριακόν
Category: The Lord’s Supper
NEW, Critical. δεῖπνον κυριακόν, the name for the ordinance instituted by Christ, celebrated in the Corinthian assembly (11:20). Render consistently across every occurrence in the letter, paired with the Words of Institution. 1 Corinthians 11:20.
Words Of Institution 1cor
Approved rendering: Bu benim bedenimdir… Bu kâse, kanımla kurulan yeni antlaşmadır
Transliteration: boo beh-NEEM beh-deh-nee-DEER… boo kyah-SEH, kah-nuhm-LAH koo-roo-LAHN yeh-NEE ahnt-lahsh-mah-DUHR
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: τοῦτό μού ἐστιν τὸ σῶμα… τοῦτο τὸ ποτήριον ἡ καινὴ διαθήκη ἐστὶν ἐν τῷ ἐμῷ αἵματι
Category: The Lord’s Supper
NEW, Critical. Paul’s own independent transmission of the Last Supper tradition (11:23-26), using the same technical tradition-vocabulary (παρέδωκα/παρέλαβον) as 15:3. Render consistently with the Matthew 26:26-28 words_of_institution rendering already fixed in translation memory, flagged for theologian review, not adjudicated confessionally (memorial vs. real-presence disputes) in the translated text itself. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.
Jesus Is Lord Spirit Confession
Approved rendering: İsa Rab’dir
Transliteration: ee-SAH rahb-DEER
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Original: Ἰησοῦς Κύριος
Category: Lordship of Christ
NEW (reuses the fixed Romans 10:9 formula exactly). Ἰησοῦς Κύριος, the Spirit-enabled confession that Jesus is Lord (12:3), the sole means by which anyone can genuinely make it. Must render identically to Romans 10:9’s salvation confession, reinforcing rather than re-deriving the Lordship of Christ doctrine. 1 Corinthians 12:3.
Women Keep Silent
Approved rendering: kadınlar toplantılarda sussun
Transliteration: kah-duhn-LAHR tohp-lahn-tuh-lahr-DAH soos-SOON
Doctrine: Women’s Silence in Worship (Disputed Passage)
Rejected alternatives: a rendering silently resolving the exegetical dispute in either direction
Original: αἱ γυναῖκες ἐν ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις σιγάτωσαν
Category: Order in Worship
NEW, Critical. αἱ γυναῖκες ἐν ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις σιγάτωσαν, a specific, disputed instruction (14:34-35) whose scope is genuinely contested among careful interpreters, including its apparent internal tension with 11:5’s assumption that women do pray and prophesy aloud in the assembly. Requires the same level of care as the head-covering passage in chapter 11: MANDATORY theologian review, explicit acknowledgment of the tension with 11:5, a text-critical note that some manuscripts place vv.34-35 after v.40, and explicit avoidance of using the translated text alone, without extensive accompanying teaching material, to make a definitive contemporary policy pronouncement about women’s roles in worship — especially given the başörtüsü-adjacent political sensitivity already documented for chapter 11. 1 Corinthians 14:34-35.
Christ Died
Approved rendering: öldü
Transliteration: url-DOO
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: göğe alındı (taken up, would support the Qur’anic no-death reading), öldü gibi göründü (appeared to die, ambiguous)
Original: ἀπέθανεν
Category: Resurrection of Christ
NEW, Critical. ἀπέθανεν, the plain, historical statement that Christ died (15:3), the first clause of the creedal formula and the non-negotiable premise for everything the chapter argues. Direct collision with Qur’an 4:157, which denies that Jesus actually died on the cross. This is the doctrinal hinge of 1 Corinthians 15’s entire argument; must never be softened, generalized, or paired with an ambiguous verb. 1 Corinthians 15:3.
Christ Buried
Approved rendering: gömüldü
Transliteration: gur-myool-DOO
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: ἐτάφη
Category: Resurrection of Christ
NEW, Critical. ἐτάφη, the burial of Christ (15:4), the second clause of the creed, evidentiary confirmation of a real, physical death. This clause’s evidentiary function — confirming a real death occurred, ruling out apparent-death or swoon theories — is precisely what Islamic apologetics contests via the no-death-crucifixion reading of Qur’an 4:157. Must be retained as a distinct clause in the died-buried-raised sequence, never compressed or omitted. 1 Corinthians 15:4.
Resurrection Of The Dead Conditional Argument
Approved rendering: eğer ölülerin dirilişi yoksa
Transliteration: eh-EHR ur-lyoo-leh-REEN dee-ree-lee-SHEE yohk-SAH
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: a devotional/symbolic softening of the conditional logic
Original: εἰ ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν
Category: Resurrection of Christ and Believers
NEW, Critical. εἰ ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν, Paul’s extended conditional argument: if there is no resurrection of the dead in general, Christ himself has not been raised, and the whole edifice of Christian faith and preaching collapses (15:12-19). The doctrinal center of gravity for the entire book; must be rendered and taught with the full force of the conditional logic intact, never softened into a merely devotional or symbolic resurrection-hope compatible with a no-death-crucifixion reading. 1 Corinthians 15:12-19.
Spiritual Body Natural Body
Approved rendering: ruhsal beden / doğal beden
Transliteration: rooh-SAHL beh-DEN / doh-AHL beh-DEN
Doctrine: The Resurrection Body and Eschatological Hope
Rejected alternatives: a rendering implying immateriality/body-negation
Original: σῶμα πνευματικόν / σῶμα ψυχικόν
Category: Resurrection of Christ and Believers
NEW, Critical. σῶμα πνευματικόν / σῶμα ψυχικόν, the resurrection body as a real, continuous, but transformed and imperishable physical body — continuity-with-transformation, not the abandonment of physicality (15:44). A genuinely delicate point of both resonance and difference with Islamic eschatology: Islamic doctrine likewise affirms a real bodily resurrection at the Last Day, a valuable point of common ground to name explicitly; the specific difference requiring careful unpacking is content and timing — 1 Corinthians 15 describes an already-inaugurated pattern (Christ’s own resurrection body as template and firstfruits NOW) rather than an exclusively future, otherwise undisclosed event. 1 Corinthians 15:44.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: Müjde
Transliteration: MYUZH-deh
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: İncil (bare, unqualified), iyi haber (generic)
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Gospel
Müjde (‘good news’) is the established Turkish Bible term. Avoid bare İncil for ‘gospel-as-message.’ Inherited from Romans package baseline; in 1 Corinthians this is the fixed, received, and transmitted creedal content Paul restates in 15:1-11, making the tahrif-resistance point especially load-bearing here.
Grace
Approved rendering: Lütuf
Transliteration: lyoo-TOOF
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: rahmet, keramet, bağış
Original: χάρις
Category: Grace
Lütuf conveys unearned favor given apart from merit; never rahmet. Inherited from Romans package baseline; 1 Corinthians 15:9-10 is one of the Language Package’s most personal expressions of this antithesis (Paul the persecutor made an apostle ‘by the grace of God’).
Faith
Approved rendering: İman
Transliteration: ee-MAHN
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: inanç (generic belief)
Original: πιστεύω / πίστις
Category: Faith
Personal trust in Christ specifically; object of faith must be explicit. Inherited from Romans package baseline; in 1 Corinthians 15:2, 11, 14, 17 the object is specifically the resurrection content just restated.
Called
Approved rendering: Çağrılmış
Transliteration: chah-ruhl-MUSH
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: davet edilmiş (invited)
Original: κλητός
Category: Divine Calling
Sovereign, effectual summons, not an optional invitation. Inherited from Romans package baseline; 1 Corinthians adds a fourth sense at 1:24 (those who are called versus those who merely hear and reject, 1:23), alongside 1:1-2’s apostleship/sainthood senses and 7:20’s vocational sense.
Calling
Approved rendering: Çağrı
Transliteration: chah-RUH
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: davet
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Divine Calling
Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 1:26 and 7:20 (one’s state in life at the time of calling).
Holy
Approved rendering: Kutsal
Transliteration: koot-SAHL
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: temiz (ritually clean), mübarek (blessed)
Set apart for God, morally pure, not ritual cleanliness. Inherited from Romans package baseline; foundational to the temple-of-God doctrine (3:16-17; 6:19).
Saints
Approved rendering: Kutsallar
Transliteration: koot-sahl-LAHR
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: evliyalar (Sufi-tradition holy/saintly figures), azizler (venerated holy figures)
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
All believers corporately, never evliyalar/azizler. Inherited from Romans package baseline; addressed to the whole Corinthian congregation at 1:2.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: Kutsallaşma
Transliteration: koot-sahl-lahsh-MAH
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: arınma (ritual purification)
The Spirit’s ongoing work of holiness, not ritual purification. Inherited from Romans package baseline; the verbal cognate ἡγιάσθητε (6:11, kutsandınız) must be taught as one of three simultaneous transformed-status realities, not a sequential stage.
Law
Approved rendering: Kutsal Yasa
Transliteration: koot-SAHL yah-SAH
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: şeriat (Islamic religious law), Tevrat Yasası (bare ‘Torah law’)
The Mosaic Law; never şeriat. Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 9:8-9 (citing Deuteronomy) and 14:34, and underlying 15:56’s ‘sting of death… the law’.
Sin
Approved rendering: Günah
Transliteration: goo-NAH
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability
Rejected alternatives: hata (mistake/error), kusur (flaw/defect)
Moral transgression before a personal God, not merely an error. Inherited from Romans package baseline; central to 15:3 (‘died for our sins’) and 15:17, 56 (‘your faith is futile, you are still in your sins… the sting of death is sin’).
Glory
Approved rendering: Yücelik
Transliteration: yoo-jeh-LEEK
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nur (divine light, heavily loaded in Islamic and Sufi mysticism as Muhammad’s pre-existent light)
Never nur. Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 2:7-8, 10:31, 11:7, and throughout 15:40-43’s resurrection-body glory-gradation argument.
Prophet
Approved rendering: Peygamber
Transliteration: pay-gahm-BEHR
Doctrine: Inspiration of Scripture
Rejected alternatives: kahin (soothsayer/fortune-teller)
Inherited from Romans package baseline; underlies the χαρίσματα list’s ‘prophecy’ gift (12:10, 28-29; 14:1-40).
Anathema
Approved rendering: Lanetli olsun
Transliteration: lah-net-LEE ohl-SOON
Doctrine: The True Gospel versus False Gospels / Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: beddua (interpersonal ill-wishing, register mismatch)
Original: ἀνάθεμα
Category: Church Discipline and Holiness
God’s fixed judicial verdict, distinct from folk-curse categories (nazar, muska). Inherited from the Galatians package extension of the Romans baseline; in 1 Corinthians 16:22 the same judicial-verdict-versus-folk-curse distinction applies to a general (not false-gospel-specific) application: ‘if anyone has no love for the Lord, let him be anathema.‘
Idolatry
Approved rendering: Putperestlik
Transliteration: poot-peh-rest-LEEK
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: εἰδωλολατρία
Category: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Inherited from the Galatians package extension of the Romans baseline. In 1 Corinthians 10:7, 14 the argument shifts from Galatians 5:20’s ethical-list context to a participatory-danger argument: sharing pagan cultic meals constitutes actual fellowship with the demonic reality behind the idol, distinct from chapter 8’s conscience/love framework; the two must be taught as complementary, not contradictory.
Uncircumcision
Approved rendering: Sünnetsizlik
Transliteration: soon-net-siz-LEEK
Doctrine: Circumcision and the New Creation
Inherited from the Galatians package extension of the Romans baseline. Same homonym caution as circumcision; used at 1 Corinthians 7:18-19.
Redemption
Approved rendering: Kurtarmak
Transliteration: koor-tahr-MAHK
Doctrine: Atonement and Christ’s Curse-Bearing
Inherited from the Galatians package extension of the Romans baseline (consistent with Kurtuluş). The cognate verb ἠγοράσθητε (‘you were bought,’ 1 Corinthians 6:20; 7:23) shares this redemption/purchase root; direction of transaction (God purchasing the believer) must stay clear, never reversed.
Mystery Of Christ
Approved rendering: sır
Transliteration: SUHR
Doctrine: The Mystery of Christ
Inherited from the Ephesians package extension of the Romans baseline. Qualify on first occurrence against both the everyday ‘secret’ sense and Sufi/Alevi esoteric-knowledge associations (sırr). Used at 1 Corinthians 2:1, 7 (‘the mystery of God’) and 4:1 (‘stewards of the mysteries of God’); note also the disputed 15:51 use (‘Behold, I tell you a mystery’) regarding the resurrection transformation.
Flesh Versus Spirit
Approved rendering: Benlik / Ruh
Transliteration: ben-LEEK / ROOH
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit
Rejected alternatives: beden (physical body, would imply body-negation)
Inherited from the Galatians package extension of the Romans baseline. Used at 1 Corinthians 3:1, 3 (‘you are still fleshly… behaving in a merely human way,’ σαρκικοί) describing immature, factional believers; must not be confused with the beden/body vocabulary used for the temple images elsewhere in chapters 3 and 6.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın gücü
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn goo-JOO
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: Tanrı’nın kudreti (used, but often paired with fatalistic qadar language)
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Never kudret. Inherited from Romans package baseline; in 1 Corinthians 1:18, 24 this is power displayed paradoxically IN the weakness/foolishness of the cross, anticipating 1:27’s ‘God chose what is weak to shame the strong.‘
Divisions Factions
Approved rendering: bölünmeler / ayrılıklar
Transliteration: bur-lyoon-meh-LEHR / ah-yruh-luhk-LAHR
Doctrine: Christian Unity versus Factionalism
Rejected alternatives: cemaat-temelli ayrım (faction framed via cemaat vocabulary)
Original: σχίσματα
Category: Church
NEW. The core named problem of the letter (σχίσματα, 1:10-12): rival allegiance to Paul, Apollos, Cephas, and Christ. Never import cemaat’s politically loaded contemporary-Turkish connotations (organized religious movement/sect); teaching material should draw the parallel to Turkish Protestant community fragmentation carefully without importing that specific political freight into the term itself. 1 Corinthians 1:10-17; 3:1-9; 6:1-8; 11:17-22.
Wisdom Of The World
Approved rendering: bilgelik
Transliteration: beel-geh-LEEK
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: felsefe (would over-narrow to formal philosophy alone)
Original: σοφία
Category: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
NEW. σοφία, human philosophical/rhetorical sophistication contrasted with God’s wisdom revealed in the cross (1:18-2:16). Never a blanket anti-philosophy or anti-intellectualism statement, given Turkey’s own robust falsafa (philosophy) and kelam (Islamic rational theology) traditions; reuses the Colossians package’s philosophy_and_empty_deceit discipline. 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:16.
Spiritually Discerned
Approved rendering: ruhsal olarak değerlendirilir
Transliteration: rooh-SAHL oh-lah-RAHK deh-er-len-dee-ree-LEER
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: marifetullah/irfan-adjacent vocabulary (Sufi graded gnosis)
Original: πνευματικῶς ἀνακρίνεται
Category: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
NEW. The Spirit-given capacity to rightly evaluate spiritual truths (2:14-15), contrasted with the natural person’s inability to accept them. Must guard against a Sufi-gnosis reading in which spiritual discernment is a mystical attainment reached through graded progression under a mürşid; here it is a Spirit-given capacity received at conversion, not an achievement. Reuses the Galatians package’s known_by_god fence. 1 Corinthians 2:14-15.
Temple Of God Corporate
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın tapınağı
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn tah-puh-nah-UH
Doctrine: The Church as God’s Temple
Rejected alternatives: cami-adjacent framing (mosque)
Original: ναὸς θεοῦ
Category: Church Discipline and Holiness
NEW. ναὸς θεοῦ, the corporate church as God’s own dwelling place by the Spirit (3:16-17), an audacious relocation of Jerusalem Temple significance onto the believing community. Tapınak is understood by Turkish readers primarily as an ancient/pagan or Jewish sanctuary; must be clarified explicitly as the corporate community indwelt by God’s Spirit, kept terminologically distinct from cami (mosque) — no natural lexical collision exists, but the metaphor requires explicit unpacking. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17.
Sexual Immorality
Approved rendering: cinsel ahlaksızlık
Transliteration: jeen-SEL ahkh-lahk-suhz-LUHK
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: fuhuş (narrower, prostitution-specific register)
Original: πορνεία
Category: Church Discipline and Holiness
NEW. πορνεία, sexual immorality outside marriage (5:1, the specific unrepented case of a man with his father’s wife). Genuine moral resonance with Islamic sexual ethics (zina is likewise strongly condemned) — a teaching asset; the distinctive Christian element requiring explicit unpacking is the corrective PROCESS — communal discipline aimed at repentance and restoration (5:5) — rather than a fixed legal-penal code (hadd punishment) or shame-based ostracism without a restoration pathway. 1 Corinthians 5:1.
Deliver To Satan
Approved rendering: Şeytan’a teslim etmek
Transliteration: shey-tah-NAH tes-LEEM et-MEK
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: lanet okumak / büyü yapmak (folk-curse invocation vocabulary)
Original: παραδοῦναι τῷ Σατανᾷ
Category: Church Discipline and Holiness
NEW. παραδοῦναι τῷ Σατανᾷ, severe church discipline (excommunication) removing an unrepentant person from the church’s protective fellowship, with a stated redemptive goal (5:5, ‘so that his spirit may be saved’). Must be distinguished from folk-curse practices (nazar, muska, büyü) already flagged in the Galatians package’s anathema/curse_of_the_law entries; this is a disciplinary, communal, redemptively-purposed act of the church, not an individual’s curse-invocation. 1 Corinthians 5:5.
Bought With A Price
Approved rendering: bir fiyatla satın alındınız
Transliteration: beer fee-yaht-LAH sah-TUHN ah-luhn-duh-NUHZ
Doctrine: Redemption: Bought with a Price
Rejected alternatives: kurban edildiniz (sacrifice-direction vocabulary, would reverse the transaction direction)
Original: ἠγοράσθητε τιμῆς
Category: Redemption
NEW. ἠγοράσθητε τιμῆς, believers as purchased by God at a cost (Christ’s death), grounding an ethic of bodily holiness in ownership rather than mere rule-keeping (6:20; cf. 7:23). Direction-of-transaction must stay clear — God purchasing the believer, not the believer offering something to God — consistent with the baseline’s atonement_curse_bearing caution about kurban-direction reversal. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 7:23.
Body As Temple Individual
Approved rendering: bedeniniz Kutsal Ruh’un tapınağıdır
Transliteration: beh-deh-nee-NEEZ koot-SAHL roo-HOON tah-puh-nah-uh-DUHR
Doctrine: The Believer’s Body as Temple of the Holy Spirit
Rejected alternatives: tahara/wudu-adjacent ritual-purity framing
Original: σῶμα ναὸς τοῦ ἐν ὑμῖν ἁγίου πνεύματος
Category: Church Discipline and Holiness
NEW. σῶμα ναὸς τοῦ ἐν ὑμῖν ἁγίου πνεύματος, the individual believer’s own physical body as a temple of the indwelling Holy Spirit (6:19). A distinctively Christian claim with no precise Islamic parallel, which frames bodily purity in ritual (tahara/wudu) rather than personal-indwelling terms. Must be taught as complementary to, not competing with, the corporate temple statement of chapter 3. 1 Corinthians 6:19.
Divorce Separation
Approved rendering: ayrılmak / boşanmak
Transliteration: ah-yruhl-MAHK / boh-shahn-MAHK
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: χωρισθῆναι / ἀπολύειν
Category: Marriage and Singleness
NEW. χωρισθῆναι / ἀπολύειν, Paul’s teaching on marital separation and divorce, including the case of an unbelieving spouse (7:10-16). Requires careful, non-legalistic pastoral framing given the real social and, in some family contexts, safety-related weight divorce carries for Turkish believers, especially converts in mixed-faith marriages; theologian review recommended for 7:12-16 specifically. 1 Corinthians 7:10-16.
Rock Was Christ
Approved rendering: o kaya Mesih’ti
Transliteration: oh kah-YAH meh-seeh-TEE
Doctrine: The Deity and Pre-Existence of Christ (the Rock)
Original: ἡ πέτρα ἦν ὁ Χριστός
Category: Deity of Christ
NEW. ἡ πέτρα ἦν ὁ Χριστός, a retrospective christological identification of Christ with the wilderness rock (10:4), asserting Christ’s pre-existent activity in Old Testament history. Reinforces the baseline’s Deity of Christ doctrine (cf. the Colossians package’s creator_and_sustainer_of_all entry); should be connected explicitly to that existing material for a Turkish reader, or the claim risks being read as an isolated typological curiosity rather than a substantive pre-existence assertion in direct tension with tawhid. 1 Corinthians 10:4.
Discerning The Body
Approved rendering: bedeni ayırt etmek
Transliteration: beh-deh-NEE ah-yuhrt et-MEK
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: ἀναξίως / δοκιμάζειν ἑαυτόν / διακρίνων τὸ σῶμα
Category: The Lord’s Supper
NEW. ἀναξίως / δοκιμάζειν ἑαυτόν / διακρίνων τὸ σῶμα, the warning against careless participation in the Lord’s Supper, requiring self-examination and discernment of both Christ’s body and the church-body’s unity (11:27-29). Should be taught with pastoral care against inducing scrupulous anxiety about participation; the ‘sickness and death’ consequence (11:30) should be handled with the same non-adjudicating, flagged-not-resolved discipline already used for other disputed/severe passages (e.g., Mark 13:32). 1 Corinthians 11:27-30.
Body Of Christ Members
Approved rendering: Mesih’in bedeni / üyeler
Transliteration: meh-see-HEEN beh-deh-SEE / oo-yeh-LEHR
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Original: σῶμα Χριστοῦ / μέλη
Category: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
NEW. σῶμα Χριστοῦ / μέλη, the church as one organic body with many differentiated but interdependent parts, each necessary and none dispensable (12:12-27). Concretely embodies the unity_in_christ discipline already established across the Language Package (Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 4:4-6; Colossians 3:11) — same principle, new organic metaphor countering both gift-based pride and factional division. 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.
Love Agape
Approved rendering: sevgi
Transliteration: sev-GEE
Doctrine: Love as the Greater Way
Rejected alternatives: aşk (Sufi aşk-ı ilahi, ecstatic/erotic divine-love register)
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Love as the Greater Way
NEW. ἀγάπη, selfless, willed, active love — the ‘greater way’ without which all spiritual gifts are worthless (12:31-13:13). Turkish has two major love-registers: sevgi (general, everyday, others-directed, the correct default) and aşk (passionate love, and critically also the specific term for aşk-ı ilahi, the Sufi concept of ecstatic, often erotically-inflected divine love central to Rumi/Mevlana and the Mevlevi tradition). NEVER aşk: substituting it would reframe agapē’s selfless, patient, others-directed, non-possessive character (13:4-7) into ecstatic desire/union. Mandatory explicit translator note distinguishing the two registers on first occurrence. 1 Corinthians 12:31; 13:1-13.
Tongues Glossolalia
Approved rendering: diller / bilinmeyen diller
Transliteration: deel-LEHR / bee-lee-neh-YEHN deel-LEHR
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: zikir/vecd-adjacent ecstatic-practice vocabulary (Sufi tarikat-specific terminology)
Original: γλῶσσαι
Category: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
NEW. γλῶσσαι, an ecstatic, Spirit-given utterance not understood by the speaker’s own mind without interpretation, subordinated to prophecy for corporate worship (14:1-19). Carries a real surface-parallel risk with ecstatic and trance-like practices documented in Turkish Sufi tradition (dhikr/zikir chanting, vecd/ecstasy in the Mevlevi and other tarikat traditions). Teaching material must neither collapse the biblical gift into that phenomenological category (implying equivalence of source/content) nor dismiss the resonance so completely that readers cannot productively engage with the real experiential parallel their own context offers. Never use zikir/vecd-specific vocabulary. 1 Corinthians 14:1-19.
Tradition Delivered
Approved rendering: teslim ettim / ilettim
Transliteration: tes-LEEM et-TEEM / ee-let-TEEM
Doctrine: Inspiration and Reliable Transmission of the Gospel
Rejected alternatives: generic ‘söyledim’ (I told you, loses the technical transmission sense)
Original: παρέδωκα
Category: Scripture and Tradition
NEW. παρέδωκα, Paul’s technical verb for handing down a fixed, pre-existing confessional formula (15:3), paired with παρελάβετε/παρέλαβον (‘received’) to form the vocabulary of tradition-transmission. This transmission-chain language is the direct Pauline answer to the tahrif (textual corruption) objection central to Turkish Islamic apologetics against the Bible’s reliability; must not be softened into a vague ‘I told you’ that loses the technical received/delivered pairing. Also underlies 11:23 (‘For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you’). 1 Corinthians 15:3; 11:23.
Substitutionary Atonement
Approved rendering: günahlarımız için
Transliteration: goo-nah-lah-ruh-MUHZ ee-CHEEN
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: günahlarımız yüzünden (merely causal ‘because of our sins,’ loses vicarious sense)
Original: ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν
Category: Salvation
NEW. ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν, Christ’s death ‘for/on behalf of’ our sins (15:3), a vicarious, substitutionary death addressing sin’s guilt. The preposition için must retain the vicarious ‘on behalf of/instead of’ sense, not flatten into a merely causal ‘because of our sins,’ which would lose the substitutionary force central to the atonement doctrine already established across this Language Package (e.g., Galatians’ atonement_curse_bearing entry). 1 Corinthians 15:3.
According To Scriptures
Approved rendering: Kutsal Yazılara göre
Transliteration: koot-SAHL yah-zuh-lah-RAH gur-REH
Doctrine: Inspiration and Reliable Transmission of the Gospel
Original: κατὰ τὰς γραφάς
Category: Fulfillment of Prophecy
NEW. κατὰ τὰς γραφάς, the double affirmation (15:3, 4) that Christ’s death and resurrection occurred in fulfillment of, and continuity with, the Old Testament scriptures. Directly reinforces the baseline’s Inspiration of Scripture and Fulfillment of Prophecy doctrines; must be taught alongside material addressing OT textual reliability, not assumed as background knowledge, given the tahrif objection’s prominence in this context. 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4.
Appeared To Witnesses
Approved rendering: göründü
Transliteration: gur-ryoon-DOO
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: rüya gördü (had a dream/vision, would soften to a subjective visionary experience)
Original: ὤφθη
Category: Resurrection of Christ
NEW. ὤφθη, the verb describing Christ’s post-resurrection appearances to named, known individuals and groups (15:5-8), functioning as legal-style eyewitness testimony. Must not be softened into a vision- or dream-only sense (rüya, a spiritually significant dream in Turkish-Islamic devotional vocabulary); the text presents bodily, physical, verifiable appearances, including to a large simultaneous group (15:6) whose availability for cross-examination Paul explicitly notes. 1 Corinthians 15:5-8.
Firstfruits
Approved rendering: ilk ürün / turfanda
Transliteration: eelk yoo-RYOON / toor-fahn-DAH
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: ἀπαρχή
Category: Resurrection of Christ and Believers
NEW. ἀπαρχή, Christ’s resurrection as the guaranteeing ‘first installment’ of the general resurrection of believers still to come (15:20, 23). Should be connected explicitly to the down_payment/kapora concept already established in the Ephesians package (1:14) as a structurally parallel ‘guarantee of what is to come’ image. 1 Corinthians 15:20, 23.
First Adam Last Adam
Approved rendering: ilk Adam / son Adam
Transliteration: eelk ah-DAHM / sohn ah-DAHM
Doctrine: Universal Human Accountability: Adam-Christ Typology
Original: ὁ πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος Ἀδάμ / ὁ ἔσχατος Ἀδάμ
Category: Resurrection of Christ and Believers
NEW. ὁ πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος Ἀδάμ / ὁ ἔσχατος Ἀδάμ, a sustained Adam-Christ typology: Adam’s sin brought death to all in solidarity with him, while Christ’s resurrection brings life to all united to him (15:21-22, 45-49). A foundational representative-headship argument paralleling Romans 5:12-19’s universal_human_accountability doctrine; must be taught alongside that existing material, since a reader unfamiliar with the fitrah-based Islamic anthropology (humans born sinless, individually accountable only from the age of reason) will not intuitively grasp representative headship without explicit unpacking. 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, 45-49.
Death Swallowed Up In Victory
Approved rendering: ölüm zafer içinde yutuldu
Transliteration: ur-LYOOM zah-FEHR ee-cheen-DEH yoo-tool-DOO
Doctrine: The Resurrection Body and Eschatological Hope
Original: κατεπόθη ὁ θάνατος εἰς νῖκος / ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ νῖκος
Category: Resurrection of Christ and Believers
NEW. κατεπόθη ὁ θάνατος εἰς νῖκος / ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ νῖκος, the chapter’s triumphant climax, taunting death as a defeated, now-powerless enemy in light of the resurrection (15:54-55, citing Isaiah 25:8 and Hosea 13:14). Should be rendered with full rhetorical force, connecting to the baseline’s Assurance of Salvation doctrine (present-tense confidence, not probabilistic hope) and to the highly_exalted/universal_lordship_confession material already established in the Philippians package. 1 Corinthians 15:54-55.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle
Approved rendering: Elçi
Transliteration: el-CHEE
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: resul / peygamber (prophet-messenger)
Spirit-authorized witness to Christ’s resurrection, not a new-scripture-bearing prophet. Inherited from Romans package baseline; directly relevant to Paul’s own resurrection-witness claim (15:8-9) and to ‘the Twelve’ and ‘all the apostles’ (15:5, 7).
Peace
Approved rendering: Esenlik
Transliteration: eh-sen-LEEK
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: huzur (inner calm), barış (political/interpersonal peace)
Relational, covenantal peace, not psychological calm. Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 14:33 (‘God is not a God of confusion but of peace’) and in the letter’s opening greeting (1:3).
Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: Ruhsal armağanlar
Transliteration: rooh-SAHL ahr-mah-AHN-lahr
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: keramet (Sufi-tradition miraculous gift of a saint)
Original: χαρίσματα
Category: Spiritual Gifts
Never keramet. Inherited from Romans package baseline; 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 are this Language Package’s fullest single treatment of χαρίσματα.
Church
Approved rendering: Kilise
Transliteration: kee-lee-SEH
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: cemaat (religious congregation/community, loaded in Turkish political usage)
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Never cemaat. Inherited from Romans package baseline; the corporate body Paul both addresses (1:2) and confesses having once persecuted (15:9).
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın Egemenliği
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn eh-geh-men-lee-EE
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: Tanrı’nın devleti (God’s state/nation)
God’s sovereign reign, not a political state. Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 6:9-10 and, critically, at 15:24, 50 (‘flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God’).
Gentiles
Approved rendering: Uluslar
Transliteration: oo-loos-LAHR
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: kafirler (unbelievers/infidels, an Islamic religious-legal category)
Never kafirler. Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 1:23-24, 10:32, and 12:13 (‘whether Jews or Greeks’).
Prophecy
Approved rendering: Peygamberlik sözü
Transliteration: pay-gahm-behr-LEEK soh-ZOO
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: kehanet (fortune-telling/divination)
Original: προφητεία
Category: Spiritual Gifts
Never kehanet. Inherited from Romans package baseline; in 1 Corinthians 14 the emphasis is prophecy’s superiority over uninterpreted tongues specifically for corporate edification, not a general individual-importance ranking.
Covenant
Approved rendering: Antlaşma
Transliteration: ahnt-lahsh-MAH
Doctrine: Davidic Covenant
Rejected alternatives: sözleşme (bare contract)
Relational-covenant term, not a bare commercial contract. Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 11:25 (‘this cup is the new covenant in my blood’).
Israel
Approved rendering: İsrail
Transliteration: ees-rah-EEL
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 10:18 (‘consider the people of Israel’) within the warning-from-Israel’s-history passage.
Baptism
Approved rendering: Vaftiz
Transliteration: vahf-TEEZ
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: abdest-adjacent ritual-ablution vocabulary
Inherited from the Galatians package extension of the Romans baseline. In 1 Corinthians used at 1:13-17 (factional baptism-boasting rebuked), 10:2 (Israel’s typological baptism), 12:13 (baptized into one body by one Spirit), and 15:29 (the disputed ‘baptism for the dead’ reference, which must be flagged rather than adjudicated in-text).
Natural Person
Approved rendering: ruhsal olmayan insan
Transliteration: rooh-SAHL oh-lah-MAHY-ahn een-SAHN
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Original: ψυχικὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
NEW. ψυχικὸς ἄνθρωπος, the person without the Spirit, relying only on natural human faculties (2:14). Must not be confused with a body/soul dualism debate; the contrast is Spirit-indwelt versus not, not body versus soul as competing components of personhood. 1 Corinthians 2:14.
Mind Of Christ
Approved rendering: Mesih’in düşüncesi
Transliteration: meh-see-HEEN dyoo-shyoon-jeh-SEE
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts
Rejected alternatives: Mesih’le bütünleşme (fusion/merging with Christ, too strong)
Original: νοῦς Χριστοῦ
Category: Spiritual Gifts
NEW. νοῦς Χριστοῦ, the perspective/discernment believers share with Christ through the Spirit (2:16, citing Isaiah 40:13). Must be taught alongside the Galatians package’s christ_lives_in_me caution against Sufi mystical-absorption readings (fena, vahdet-i vücud); this is cognitive/moral alignment through the indwelling Spirit, not dissolution of the believer’s own personhood into Christ’s. 1 Corinthians 2:16.
Testing Fire Works
Approved rendering: altın, gümüş, değerli taşlar, tahta, ot, saman
Transliteration: ahl-TUHN, goo-MYOOSH, deh-er-LEE tahsh-LAHR, tah-TAH, oht, sah-MAHN
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: mizan-adjacent ‘deeds weighed on a scale’ framing
Original: χρυσός, ἄργυρος, λίθοι τίμιοι, ξύλα, χόρτος, καλάμη / πῦρ
Category: Church Discipline and Holiness
NEW. Building-materials metaphor for the quality of ministry work, tested by fire at a future day (3:12-15). Must be taught distinctly from the baseline’s Assurance of Salvation doctrine — the fire tests works, not personal salvation-status (3:15 explicitly preserves the person’s salvation even where the work is destroyed) — and must never be conflated with an Islamic mizan (deeds-weighed-on-a-scale) framework determining final salvation itself. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15.
Steward Of Mysteries
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın sırlarının kahyası
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn suhr-lah-ruh-NUHN kah-yah-SUH
Doctrine: Apostolic Stewardship and Suffering
Original: οἰκονόμος μυστηρίων θεοῦ
Category: Apostleship
NEW. οἰκονόμος μυστηρίων θεοῦ, apostles as trusted managers of divinely revealed truth, accountable to God, not its originators or owners (4:1). Reinforces the baseline’s Paul’s Apostleship doctrine against a resul/peygamber (new-revelation-bearing prophet) reduction. 1 Corinthians 4:1.
Scum Of The World
Approved rendering: dünyanın süprüntüsü
Transliteration: dyoon-yah-NUHN syoop-ryoon-tyoo-SYOO
Doctrine: Apostolic Stewardship and Suffering
Original: περικαθάρματα τοῦ κόσμου
Category: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
NEW. περικαθάρματα τοῦ κόσμου, vivid honor/shame reversal language describing apostolic suffering as the world’s object of contempt (4:13), paralleling the cross’s foolishness-that-is-wisdom paradox. Handle with the same honor/shame sensitivity flagged as a native-speaker-review category in the Romans baseline instructions. 1 Corinthians 4:13.
Leaven
Approved rendering: maya
Transliteration: mah-YAH
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Original: ζύμη / ζυμωθῇ
Category: Church Discipline and Holiness
NEW. ζύμη, a small corrupting influence that spreads through the whole community, echoing Passover imagery (5:6-8). The Passover-lamb typology (‘Christ our Passover has been sacrificed,’ 5:7) should be taught alongside, not duplicating, the established Lamb of God doctrine (John 1:29). 1 Corinthians 5:6-8.
Marriage
Approved rendering: evlenmek / evlilik
Transliteration: ev-len-MEHK / ev-lee-LEEK
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: γαμεῖν / γάμος
Category: Marriage and Singleness
NEW. γαμεῖν / γάμος, marriage as a good gift (7:2-5, 28), one of two legitimate Christian vocations alongside celibacy. Runs against the strong normative expectation of marriage in mainstream Turkish-Islamic social and religious culture; requires explicit cultural framing so as not to be heard as anti-marriage or eccentric. 1 Corinthians 7:1-40 (throughout).
Gift Of Marital State
Approved rendering: armağan
Transliteration: ahr-mah-AHN
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Rejected alternatives: eksik/geçici durum (deficient/provisional status framing)
Original: χάρισμα
Category: Marriage and Singleness
NEW. χάρισμα, one’s state of life — married or single — as itself a Spirit-given gift suited to the individual (7:7). Cognate root of Ruhsal armağanlar; must be taught with equal dignity given to both the ‘gift’ of marriage and the ‘gift’ of singleness, never treating singleness as a second-class alternative for those who could not marry. 1 Corinthians 7:7.
Passing Form Of World
Approved rendering: bu dünyanın şimdiki hali geçip gidiyor
Transliteration: boo dyoon-yah-NUHN sheem-dee-KEE hah-LEE geh-CHEEP gee-dee-YOR
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: παρέρχεται τὸ σχῆμα τοῦ κόσμου τούτου
Category: Marriage and Singleness
NEW. παρέρχεται τὸ σχῆμα τοῦ κόσμου τούτου, the present, provisional form of this age, grounding Paul’s ‘as though not’ ethic of relativized engagement with worldly structures (7:29-31). Should be connected to chapter 15’s future resurrection hope as the reason present arrangements are held loosely, not rejected as evil. 1 Corinthians 7:29-31.
Knowledge
Approved rendering: bilgi
Transliteration: beel-GEE
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Rejected alternatives: irfan/marifet (Sufi-Gnostic esoteric attainment)
Original: γνῶσις
Category: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
NEW. γνῶσις, correct theological knowledge (that idols are nothing) that, without love, can wound weaker believers (8:1-2, 7, 10-11). Must not be confused with the Sufi/Gnostic sense of gnosis-as-esoteric-mystical-attainment; here it is straightforward correct theological understanding, contrasted not with ignorance but with love as the superior governing virtue (anticipating chapter 13). 1 Corinthians 8:1-2, 7, 10-11.
Conscience
Approved rendering: vicdan
Transliteration: veej-DAHN
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: συνείδησις
Category: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
NEW. συνείδησις, the inner moral faculty evaluating one’s own actions, which a ‘weak’ believer’s conscience requires protecting through the stronger believer’s voluntary self-restriction (8:7, 10, 12). Genuine point of resonance with Turkish ethical vocabulary (vicdan is well-established and positively regarded in both secular and religious usage); low collision risk, but must be taught with its specific Pauline nuance — a conscience that can be defiled, wounded, or strengthened through teaching, not a fixed, unchangeable faculty. 1 Corinthians 8:7, 10, 12.
All Things To All People
Approved rendering: herkes için her şey oldum
Transliteration: hehr-KES ee-CHEEN hehr SHEHY ohl-DOOM
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Rejected alternatives: senkretizm lisansı olarak sunma (presenting as license for syncretism)
Original: πάντα τοῖς πᾶσιν γέγονα
Category: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
NEW. πάντα τοῖς πᾶσιν γέγονα, Paul’s strategic cultural flexibility in service of gospel proclamation (9:22). Must be taught alongside a clear caution against being misapplied as license for doctrinal syncretism; Paul’s flexibility is cultural/behavioral (9:19-23), never doctrinal, consistent with Galatians’ truth_of_the_gospel discipline. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23.
Race Prize Crown
Approved rendering: yarış / ödül / çürümez taç
Transliteration: yah-RUHSH / ur-DYOOL / choo-ryoo-MEZ tahch
Doctrine: Apostolic Stewardship and Suffering
Rejected alternatives: sevap kazanma (earning merit-points, would import amel/sevap framing)
Original: δρόμος / βραβεῖον / στέφανος
Category: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
NEW. δρόμος / βραβεῖον / στέφανος, athletic-competition imagery (the Isthmian games near Corinth) for disciplined Christian living aimed at an imperishable reward (9:24-27). Must not be read as implying salvation itself is earned through disciplined effort; the ‘prize’ language concerns faithful stewardship/reward for ministry, not the ground of salvation itself. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.
Varieties Of Gifts Trinitarian
Approved rendering: farklı armağanlar…hizmetler…etkinlikler; ama aynı Ruh, aynı Rab, aynı Tanrı
Transliteration: fahrk-LUH ahr-mah-ahn-LAHR… heez-met-LEHR… et-keen-leek-LEHR
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Original: διαιρέσεις χαρισμάτων…διακονιῶν…ἐνεργημάτων
Category: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
NEW. διαιρέσεις χαρισμάτων…διακονιῶν…ἐνεργημάτων, a trinitarian structuring of gift-diversity (12:4-6). Reinforces the sevenfold_unity discipline’s pattern of retaining enumerated trinitarian formulas unqualified. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6.
Love Never Fails
Approved rendering: sevgi hiç düşmez
Transliteration: sev-GEE heech dyoosh-MEZ
Doctrine: Love as the Greater Way
Original: οὐδέποτε πίπτει
Category: Love as the Greater Way
NEW. οὐδέποτε πίπτει, love’s permanence contrasted with the temporary, this-age-bound nature of prophecy, tongues, and knowledge (13:8-10). Connects forward to the eschatological hope of chapter 15 (the ‘perfect’ that is yet to come). 1 Corinthians 13:8.
God Not Of Confusion But Peace
Approved rendering: çünkü Tanrı karışıklığın Tanrısı değil, esenliğin Tanrısıdır
Transliteration: chyoon-KYOO tahn-RUH kah-ruh-shuhk-luh-UHN tahn-ruh-SUH deh-EEL, eh-sen-lee-EEN tahn-ruh-suh-DUHR
Doctrine: Order in Worship: Tongues and Prophecy
Original: οὐ γάρ ἐστιν ἀκαταστασίας ὁ θεὸς ἀλλὰ εἰρήνης
Category: Order in Worship
NEW. οὐ γάρ ἐστιν ἀκαταστασίας ὁ θεὸς ἀλλὰ εἰρήνης, God’s own character as a God of order and peace, grounding the chapter’s insistence on orderly, sequential worship practice (14:33). Uses the established Esenlik rendering for εἰρήνη (relational, covenantal peace), not generic huzur. 1 Corinthians 14:33.
Tradition Received
Approved rendering: aldınız / almıştım
Transliteration: ahl-duh-NUHZ / ahl-muhsh-TUHM
Doctrine: Inspiration and Reliable Transmission of the Gospel
Original: παρελάβετε / παρέλαβον
Category: Scripture and Tradition
NEW. παρελάβετε / παρέλαβον, to receive a transmitted tradition as a fixed deposit (15:1, 3), paired with παρέδωκα. Should echo the same root/register as tradition_delivered so the receive/deliver pair reads as one unified transaction, reinforcing that gospel content is a fixed deposit rather than each hearer’s private interpretation. 1 Corinthians 15:1, 3; 11:23.
Fell Asleep
Approved rendering: uykuya daldı / vefat etti
Transliteration: ooy-koo-YAH dahl-DUH / veh-FAHT et-TEE
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: öldü (flat ‘died,’ loses the hope-euphemism used specifically of believers)
Original: ἐκοιμήθησαν
Category: Resurrection of Believers
NEW. ἐκοιμήθησαν, a euphemism for believers’ death implying a temporary state pending resurrection, used of some of the 500 witnesses (15:6) and recurring at 15:18, 20. Deliberately distinct from ἀπέθανεν (‘died’), used of Christ in 15:3, and never of believers in this chapter. Keep the sleep-metaphor visible where possible; must not be conflated with a soul-sleep doctrinal dispute, which remains unadjudicated in-text. 1 Corinthians 15:6, 18, 20.
Untimely Born
Approved rendering: vaktinden önce doğmuş biri gibi
Transliteration: vahk-teen-DEHN urn-JEH doh-MOOSH bee-REE gee-BEE
Doctrine: Grace as the Ground of Apostolic Identity
Rejected alternatives: beklenmedik biri (a gentle ‘unexpected one,’ sanitizes the jarring register), a clinically graphic literal rendering of ‘miscarriage’
Original: ἔκτρωμα
Category: Apostleship
NEW. ἔκτρωμα, a violent, jarring term for a stillbirth or premature/abortive birth, applied self-deprecatingly by Paul to his own abrupt entry into apostleship (15:8). A deliberately shocking image (comparable in register to the Philippians package’s σκύβαλα/rubbish discipline); must not be sanitized into a gentle ‘unexpected,’ but must remain tasteful given the term’s association with pregnancy loss for contemporary readers. Native-speaker sensitivity review warranted alongside mandatory theologian review. 1 Corinthians 15:8.
Persecuted The Church
Approved rendering: kiliseye zulmettim
Transliteration: kee-lee-seh-YEH zool-met-TEEM
Doctrine: Grace as the Ground of Apostolic Identity
Original: ἐδίωξα τὴν ἐκκλησίαν
Category: Grace
NEW. ἐδίωξα τὴν ἐκκλησίαν, Paul’s historical fact of having persecuted the church, grounding his claim to unworthiness (15:9). Sets up the grace-over-merit argument of 15:10. 1 Corinthians 15:9.
Not In Vain
Approved rendering: boşa gitmedi / boş yere
Transliteration: boh-SHAH geet-meh-DEE / bohsh yeh-REH
Doctrine: Grace as the Ground of Apostolic Identity
Original: κενή / εἰκῇ
Category: Grace
NEW. κενή / εἰκῇ, the ‘empty/without effect’ vocabulary forming a rhetorical thread through chapter 15 (vv. 2, 10, 14, 17, 58), asserting that grace received and faith held produce real, observable fruit. Should be rendered with a consistent Turkish root across all its occurrences to preserve the rhetorical inclusio Paul builds from v.2 to v.58. 1 Corinthians 15:2, 10, 14, 17, 58.
Preach Proclaim
Approved rendering: duyurmak / vaaz etmek
Transliteration: doo-yoor-MAHK / vah-AHZ et-MEK
Doctrine: Inspiration and Reliable Transmission of the Gospel
Original: κηρύσσω
Category: Gospel
NEW. κηρύσσω, to proclaim as an authorized herald; used of the unified apostolic proclamation shared by Paul and the other witnesses (15:11). Reinforces the baseline’s Truth of the Gospel doctrine (objective, singular content, not one apostle’s private perspective). 1 Corinthians 15:11.
Labor Not In Vain
Approved rendering: Rab’deki emeğiniz boşa değildir
Transliteration: rahb-deh-KEE eh-meh-ee-NEEZ boh-SHAH deh-eel-DEER
Doctrine: The Resurrection Body and Eschatological Hope
Original: ὁ κόπος ὑμῶν οὐκ ἔστιν κενὸς ἐν κυρίῳ
Category: Resurrection of Christ and Believers
NEW. ὁ δὲ κόπος ὑμῶν οὐκ ἔστιν κενὸς ἐν κυρίῳ, the chapter’s closing statement, tying present Christian labor directly to the certainty of future resurrection (15:58). Should echo the same Turkish rendering chosen for the earlier ‘in vain’ occurrences (vv. 2, 10, 14, 17) to preserve the rhetorical inclusio. 1 Corinthians 15:58.
Marana Tha
Approved rendering: Marana ta (Rab’bimiz, gel!)
Transliteration: mah-rah-NAH tah
Doctrine: Anathema and Maranatha: Closing Declarations
Rejected alternatives: fully translating away the Aramaic form
Original: Μαράνα θά
Category: Eschatological Hope
NEW. Μαράνα θά, an early, untranslated Aramaic liturgical exclamation expressing eager expectation of Christ’s return (16:22). Structurally parallel to the Abba (Romans 8:15) and Amin conventions already established; retain in transliterated form with its translation attached rather than translating it away entirely. 1 Corinthians 16:22.
Low Risk Terms

Inherited from Romans package baseline; used at 1:4 and in the thanksgiving material of 14:16-18.
Fellowship
Approved rendering: Paydaşlık

Doctrine: Christian Fellowship

Exhort
Approved rendering: Teşvik etmek
Transliteration: tesh-VEEK et-MEK

Foundation
Approved rendering: temel
Transliteration: teh-MEL
Doctrine: The Church as God’s Temple
Original: θεμέλιος
Category: Church
NEW. θεμέλιος, Christ alone as the church’s sole legitimate foundation, as opposed to party allegiance or human wisdom (3:10-11). No collision risk; standard construction metaphor. 1 Corinthians 3:10-11.
Lawsuits Before Unbelievers
Approved rendering: mahkemeye başvurmak
Transliteration: mah-keh-meh-YEH bahsh-voor-MAHK
Doctrine: Christian Unity versus Factionalism
Original: κρίνεσθαι ἐπὶ τῶν ἀδίκων
Category: Christian Unity versus Factionalism
NEW. κρίνεσθαι ἐπὶ τῶν ἀδίκων, believers taking internal disputes to secular courts rather than resolving them within the church (6:1). A practical extension of the unity doctrine; no collision risk. 1 Corinthians 6:1.
Present Distress

Transliteration: sheem-dee-KEE suh-kuhn-TUH
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: ἐνεστῶσα ἀνάγκη
Category: Marriage and Singleness
NEW. ἐνεστῶσα ἀνάγκη, a specific historical circumstance shaping Paul’s situational counsel about marital status (7:26). Situational, occasional counsel, not a timeless universal command against marrying; teaching material should make this scope explicit. 1 Corinthians 7:26.
Stumbling Block
Approved rendering: sürçme taşı
Transliteration: syoorch-MEH tah-SHUH
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: πρόσκομμα / σκάνδαλον
Category: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
NEW. πρόσκομμα / σκάνδαλον, an obstacle causing a weaker believer to stumble into sin or a wounded conscience, which the stronger believer’s liberty must yield to avoid (8:9, 13). No collision risk; love limits liberty. 1 Corinthians 8:9, 13.
Right Authority
Approved rendering: hak
Transliteration: HAHK
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat

Category: Christian Fellowship
NEW. φίλημα ἅγιον, a customary first-century greeting of familial affection among believers (16:20).
