Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 1 Thessalonians (English → Turkish)
This glossary records every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, covering all five chapters of 1 Thessalonians. Terms marked [TM] are already fixed in the baseline Romans Language Package’s translation_memory.json and must be reused exactly as recorded there; this document does not alter their renderings. Terms marked [NEW] are proposed additions to translation memory for this curriculum, with risk levels assigned using the same framework as doctrine_risk_registry.json (Critical / High / Medium / Low). All Critical and High risk terms require human theologian review per the established escalation rules; Medium requires native speaker review; Low requires automated review only.

| caught up (harpazō) | ἁρπάζω / ἁρπαγησόμεθα / harpazō | to seize, snatch, take by force | Yukarı alınacağız / kapılıp alınacağız | Critical | The Return of Christ; Resurrection of Believers | 4:17 | Distinguish from Christ’s own ascension (göğe alındı) and from Islamic accounts of prophets being “raised” without dying |

| affliction / tribulation | θλῖψις / thlipsis | pressure, affliction, suffering | Sıkıntı / eziyet | Medium-High | (background to all five doctrines) | 1:6; 3:3-4 | Ordinary suffering sense; do not silently equate with a technical “Great Tribulation” system — flagged, not adjudicated |

This glossary extends, and must never contradict, the baseline Romans Language Package’s translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json.
Critical Risk Terms
God
Approved rendering: Tanrı
Transliteration: tahn-RUH
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Allah (theologically usable but politically/socially contested for Christian texts in some contexts)
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Tanrı is the term used consistently across modern Turkish Bible translations (Kitabı Mukaddes), functioning as the generic word for deity without directly invoking the specifically Qur’anic Allah in a Christian text. Reused unchanged throughout 1 Thessalonians (1:1-10; 2:2-15; 3:9-13; 4:1-9; 5:9,18,23).
Father
Approved rendering: Baba
Transliteration: bah-BAH
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: Yaratıcı (Creator, as a substitute to avoid relational language)
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Do not retreat to the safer but flatter Yaratıcı. Reused at 1 Thessalonians 1:1, 3; 3:11, 13.
Lord
Approved rendering: Rab
Transliteration: RAHB
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: efendi (master, non-divine), üstat (teacher/master)
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Efendi must not be substituted; it strips the confession of its exclusive divine claim. ‘The Lord himself’ (autos ho kyrios, 4:16) requires the emphatic, exclusive force to be retained in full.
Jesus
Approved rendering: İsa
Transliteration: ee-SAH
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bare ‘İsa Peygamber’ (Prophet Jesus, without Mesih)
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Must consistently pair İsa with Mesih (İsa Mesih) rather than using İsa alone, throughout 1 Thessalonians.
Messiah
Approved rendering: Mesih
Transliteration: meh-SEEH
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: sadece bir peygamber (merely a prophet)
Inherited from Romans package. Renders Χριστός throughout 1 Thessalonians. Every use must carry its full OT-fulfillment, atoning-savior content, not read as a bare honorific.
Holy Spirit
Approved rendering: Kutsal Ruh
Transliteration: koot-SAHL ROOH
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: Cebrail (the archangel Gabriel)
Original: πνεῦμα ἅγιον
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Must be explicitly taught as God himself, the third divine Person, not an angel. This book’s ‘quench the Spirit’ warning (5:19, see quench_the_spirit below) extends but does not alter this Critical doctrine.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: Diriliş
Transliteration: dee-ree-LEESH
Doctrine: Resurrection of Christ
Rejected alternatives: göğe yükseliş (ascension, alone), ruhsal diriliş (spiritual-only revival)
Original: ἀνάστασις (root shared with ἀνέστη, ἀναστήσονται)
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. Noun root underlying every resurrection-verb form in this book (ἀνέστη at 4:14, ἀναστήσονται at 4:16); all such verb forms must draw on this same Diriliş word-family. Must affirm a real bodily death followed by bodily resurrection, never a no-death ascension (Qur’an 4:157-adjacent reading).
Salvation
Approved rendering: Kurtuluş
Transliteration: koor-too-LOOSH
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: cennete girmek (entering paradise, as the whole content), necat (Ottoman/Arabic register)
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 5:8-10. ‘God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation’ (5:9) is a direct present-tense assurance claim, never a probabilistic hope pending an undisclosed final judgment.
Ascension
Approved rendering: göğe alındı
Transliteration: gur-EH ah-luhn-DUH
Doctrine: The Emmaus Road and the Ascension
Inherited from Romans package (via the Luke package). Cross-reference only in this book — Christ’s own singular, historical ascent. Must be worded distinctly from both descend_from_heaven (4:16, the reverse movement) and caught_up_harpazo (4:17, a distinct future event involving all living believers, not a repetition of this event).
Armor Of God
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın bütün silahları / zırhı
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn byoo-TYOON see-lah-lah-RUH / zuhr-HUH
Doctrine: The Armor of God
Inherited from Romans package (via the Ephesians package). Extended by this book to the faith/love/hope triad specifically: ‘the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of the hope of salvation’ (5:8). Keep each piece concrete; ensure Umut (hope) and Kurtuluş (salvation) both appear with their established, non-negotiable renderings within this image.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın Oğlu
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn oh-LOO
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: Tanrı’nın sevgili kulu (God’s beloved servant), kutsal kişi (holy person)
Inherited from Romans package. Relevant at 1:10, ‘to wait for his Son from heaven’ — full phrase required, never softened to a servant/prophet euphemism.
Hope
Approved rendering: Umut
Transliteration: oo-MOOT
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Rejected alternatives: recâ (Islamic devotional hope in Allah’s mercy, held alongside havf/fear, formally uncertain pending undisclosed final judgment), kısmet (fatalistic destiny)
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Faith
NEW. The single most load-bearing term for the Hope in Grief doctrine (1:3; 2:19; 4:13; 5:8). Must be taught as certain in content though future in timing, grounded already in the accomplished fact of Christ’s resurrection — never softened to a merely devotional or probabilistic aspiration. Mandatory theologian review every occurrence.
Parousia Return Of Christ
Approved rendering: Rab’bin gelişi / Mesih’in gelişi
Transliteration: RAHB-been geh-lee-SHEE
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: İsa’nın geri dönüşü (bare, invites the popular hadith-based mortal-Isa-returns frame), Kıyamet (bare, conflates with the general Resurrection/Judgment event, erasing the specifically Christological, ceremonial-arrival structure)
Original: παρουσία
Category: Christology
NEW. The single highest-stakes term in this book (2:19; 3:13; 4:15; 5:23). Popular Turkish-Islamic eschatology (hadith-based, widely taught though extra-Qur’anic) holds that Isa will return as a still-mortal, subordinate prophet to defeat the Deccal, establish justice, then die naturally and later be resurrected with all humanity at Kıyamet. Paul’s parousia is the already-resurrected, glorified, sovereign Lord’s history-culminating coming, not a preliminary event before a separate resurrection process. Every occurrence requires explicit contrastive teaching; mandatory theologian review.
Caught Up Harpazo
Approved rendering: Yukarı alınacağız / kapılıp alınacağız
Transliteration: yoo-kah-RUH ah-luh-nah-jah-UHZ
Doctrine: Resurrection of Believers
Rejected alternatives: göğe alındı (Christ’s own singular ascension term; must stay lexically distinct), an English loanword such as ‘rapture’/‘rapture teolojisi’
Original: ἁρπάζω (ἁρπαγησόμεθα)
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:17. Must be worded distinctly from Christ’s own ascension and must not be assimilated to Qur’an 4:157-adjacent accounts of a prophet raised without dying — this describes living believers being transformed and gathered, a third, distinct category requiring explicit teaching. Mandatory theologian review.
Day Of The Lord
Approved rendering: Rab’bin Günü
Transliteration: RAHB-been goo-NOO
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: Kıyamet Günü (bare, generically theistic, loses the required Christological center)
Original: ἡμέρα κυρίου
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 5:2. Genuine bridge-concept resonance with Kıyamet Günü, but must retain explicit specificity: the personal return of the Lord Jesus, both savior (5:9-10) and judge. Mandatory theologian review every occurrence.
Dead In Christ Will Rise
Approved rendering: Mesih’te ölmüş olanlar önce dirilecek
Transliteration: meh-SEEH-teh url-MYOOSH oh-lahn-LAHR urn-JEH dee-ree-leh-JEK
Doctrine: Resurrection of Believers
Rejected alternatives: a verb outside the established Diriliş word-family (e.g. a generic ‘kalktı’)
Original: οἱ νεκροὶ ἐν Χριστῷ ἀναστήσονται
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:16. Must draw on the Diriliş word-family exactly; ‘in Christ’ (Mesih’te) must never be dropped, since union with Christ, not resurrection as a general human capacity, grounds the promise. Must be read together with christ_died_and_rose as one unified claim.
Historical Killers Of The Lord Jesus
Approved rendering: (rendered literally; mandatory theologian-authored anti-antisemitism framing required at every occurrence)
Doctrine: Historical Sensitivity: The Killers of the Lord Jesus
Rejected alternatives: any generalized reading applying the phrase to Jewish people collectively, ancient or contemporary
Original: Ἰουδαίων τῶν καὶ τὸν κύριον ἀποκτεινάντων Ἰησοῦν
Category: Doctrine
NEW. 2:14-16. Requires the identical mandatory theologian-authored anti-antisemitism framing already established as non-negotiable in this Language Package for Matthew 23 and 27:25, regardless of Turkey’s own comparatively less antisemitic historical record.
Sexual Immorality
Approved rendering: Cinsel ahlaksızlık
Transliteration: jeen-SEL ahkh-lahk-suhz-LUHK
Doctrine: Sexual Ethics and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: zina (the narrower Turkish/Islamic legal hadd-category for adultery/illicit intercourse, carrying corporal-punishment associations), fuhuş (too narrow, prostitution-specific; descriptive use only, never primary)
Original: πορνεία
Category: Sanctification
NEW. 4:3. Mirrors the established discipline of keeping amel out of works-of-the-law contexts and şeriat out of law contexts: a familiar native religious-legal term must not silently substitute for and narrow Paul’s broader ethical category. Mandatory theologian review.
Sanctify Wholly Spirit Soul Body
Approved rendering: Tamamen kutsal kılsın; ruhunuz, canınız ve bedeniniz
Transliteration: tah-mah-MEN koot-SAHL kuhl-SUHN; roo-hoo-NOOZ, jah-nuh-NUHZ veh beh-den-ee-NEEZ
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: nefis for ψυχή (the Sufi/Islamic term for the base, carnal self to be disciplined and subdued; wrongly implies the soul-element itself needs suppression rather than preservation)
Original: ὁλοτελεῖς… ὁλόκληρον τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἡ ψυχὴ καὶ τὸ σῶμα
Category: Sanctification
NEW. 5:23. The letter’s climactic prayer, fusing Sanctification with the Return of Christ as its horizon. ψυχή must render as can (neutral soul/life), NEVER nefis. Trichotomy-vs-rhetorical-wholeness exegetical debate is flagged, not adjudicated. Mandatory theologian review.
Christ Died And Rose
Approved rendering: İsa öldü ve dirildi
Transliteration: ee-SAH url-DOO veh dee-reel-DEE
Doctrine: Resurrection of Believers
Rejected alternatives: a phrasing readable as ambiguous on the real historical death (Qur’an 4:157-adjacent softening), kalktı (a weak, non-Diriliş-family verb)
Original: Ἰησοῦς ἀπέθανεν καὶ ἀνέστη
Category: Christology
NEW. 4:14. The flat historical sequence grounding believers’ entire hope. Both clauses must together read as a real, historical death followed by a real, historical rising; the resurrection verb must draw on the established Diriliş word-family. Mandatory theologian review.
High Risk Terms
Abba
Approved rendering: Abba
Transliteration: AH-bah
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Inherited from Romans package. Retain the transliteration untranslated. Cross-reference only in this book; no new occurrence in 1 Thessalonians, but the convention must remain available if this passage is cited alongside Romans 8:15 or Mark 14:36 in teaching material.
Grace
Approved rendering: Lütuf
Transliteration: lyoo-TOOF
Doctrine: Grace

Rejected alternatives: evliyalar (Sufi-tradition holy/saintly figures), azizler (venerated holy figures)
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 3:13 (‘with all his saints’), gathered corporately at Christ’s coming — never a specially venerated few.
Sanctification
Approved rendering: Kutsallaşma
Transliteration: koot-sahl-lahsh-MAH
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: arınma (ritual purification)
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. This book’s central doctrinal term (4:3, 4, 7), stated explicitly as God’s will, with sexual ethics as the specific test case. Never ritual purification (arınma).
Election
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın seçimi
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn seh-chee-MEE
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: kader (fate/predestination in the qadar sense), kısmet
Original: ἐκλογή
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Applied here to the church corporately (1:4). Never kader/kısmet.
Called
Approved rendering: Çağrılmış
Transliteration: chah-ruhl-MUSH
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: davet edilmiş (invited)
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 2:12; 4:7.
Calling
Approved rendering: Çağrı
Transliteration: chah-RUH
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: davet
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 5:24 (‘faithful is he who calls you’).
Glory
Approved rendering: Yücelik
Transliteration: yoo-jeh-LEEK
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: nur (divine light, heavily loaded in Islamic and Sufi mysticism as Muhammad’s pre-existent light)
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 2:12, 20.
Idolatry
Approved rendering: Putperestlik
Transliteration: poot-peh-rest-LEEK
Doctrine: Flesh versus Spirit
Original: εἰδωλολατρία / εἴδωλα
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 1:9 (‘you turned to God from idols,’ εἴδωλα rendered putlar within the same word-family).
Children Of Wrath
Approved rendering: doğuştan gazap çocukları
Transliteration: doh-oosh-TAHN gah-ZAHP choh-jook-lah-RUH
Doctrine: Unity of Jew and Gentile / One New Humanity
Inherited from Romans package (via the Ephesians package). Cross-reference only in this book. Must be kept lexically distinct from this book’s ‘sons of light/day’ construction (5:5, 8; see sons_of_light below) so the two ‘children/sons of X’ constructions are never confused.
Those Who Sleep
Approved rendering: Uyuyanlar
Transliteration: oo-yoo-yahn-LAHR
Doctrine: Resurrection of Believers
Rejected alternatives: ölüler (the dead, flattens Paul’s deliberate rhetorical softening)
Original: κοιμωμένων / κοιμηθέντας
Category: Eschatology
NEW. Preserves Paul’s deliberate death-euphemism (4:13, 15) contrasted with the harsher νεκρῶν (‘the dead’) he uses only at 4:16. Mandatory teaching note: this is figurative language for death, not a soul-sleep doctrine claim, and must not be conflated with folk notions of the dead ‘resting’ pending Kıyamet.
Grieve
Approved rendering: Kederlenmek / yas tutmak
Transliteration: keh-dehr-len-MEK / yahs toot-MAHK
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Rejected alternatives: a rendering grammatically separated from the following comparative clause (‘as others who have no hope’)
Original: λυπέω / λυπῆσθε
Category: Eschatology
NEW. Paul qualifies, not forbids, grief (4:13). Must remain grammatically inseparable from the qualifying clause within the same sentence unit, or risks being misheard as commanding stoic grief-suppression — a serious pastoral error given the centrality of mourning ritual (mevlit, taziye) in Turkish culture.
Wrath Of God
Approved rendering: Gazap
Transliteration: gah-ZAHP
Doctrine: Divine Wrath and Deliverance
Rejected alternatives: kader-adjacent framing of impersonal inevitability
Original: ὀργή
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 1:10; 2:16; 4:6; 5:9. Consistent with the baseline’s children_of_wrath precedent. Must be taught as God’s personal, judicial response to sin, never capricious anger and never impersonal kader-style inevitability; Christ’s role as personal rescuer/avenger must remain explicit.
Comfort Console
Approved rendering: Teselli etmek
Transliteration: teh-sel-LEE et-MEK
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Rejected alternatives: teşvik etmek alone (too brisk/motivational a tone for a grief context)
Original: παρακαλέω / παραμυθέομαι
Category: Faith
NEW. Third context-sense added to the exhort family, specific to grief/discouragement (2:12; 4:18; 5:14). Distinguishes grief-honoring consolation from ordinary encouragement.
Affliction Tribulation
Approved rendering: Sıkıntı / eziyet
Transliteration: suh-kuhn-TUH / eh-zee-YET
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Original: θλῖψις
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 1:6; 3:3-4. Ordinary suffering sense; must not be silently equated with a technical end-times ‘Great Tribulation’ period — that exegetical question is flagged, not adjudicated.
Serve The Living God
Approved rendering: Yaşayan ve gerçek Tanrı’ya kulluk etmek
Transliteration: yah-shah-YAHN veh gher-CHEK tahn-ruh-YAH kool-look et-MEK
Doctrine: Positive Service to God (Conversion from Idols)
Rejected alternatives: kölelik etmek (would wrongly apply the bondage-sense rule reserved for negative δοῦλος contexts elsewhere in this Language Package)
Original: δουλεύειν θεῷ ζῶντι καὶ ἀληθινῷ
Category: Sanctification
NEW. 1:9. DOCUMENTED, DELIBERATE EXCEPTION to the established ‘never kul’ rule (Galatians/Ephesians/Philippians packages): this is positive, wholehearted devotional service, not bondage. Kulluk etmek is correct here specifically and must not be generalized to other δοῦλος-family occurrences. Theologian review recommended to confirm the exception is applied only in this positive-service sense.
Vessel Skeuos
Approved rendering: Kendi kabı
Transliteration: ken-DEE kah-BUH
Doctrine: Sexual Ethics and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: a rendering that silently resolves the genuine body-vs-wife exegetical ambiguity
Original: σκεῦος
Category: Sanctification
NEW. 4:4. Genuinely contested referent (one’s own body, or one’s own wife). Render literally with a mandatory translator’s note explaining both readings; flag for theologian review rather than silently resolving, per this Language Package’s established discipline for contested referents.
Quench The Spirit
Approved rendering: Ruh’u söndürmemek
Transliteration: ROO-hoo surn-dyoor-meh-MEK
Doctrine: The Holy Spirit and the Warning Against Quenching
Rejected alternatives: Ruh’a engel olmayın (loses the vivid fire-metaphor)
Original: σβέννυμι τὸ πνεῦμα
Category: Holy Spirit
NEW. 5:19. Preserve the fire/flame imagery concretely. Reinforces, rather than contradicts, the baseline’s Critical caution that the Spirit is a full divine Person, never an impersonal force or influence merely ‘extinguished.‘
Word Of The Lord Revelation
Approved rendering: Rab’bin sözüne göre
Transliteration: RAHB-been sur-zyoo-NEH gur-REH
Doctrine: Apostolic Authority and the Word of God
Rejected alternatives: vahiy (bare; the precise Turkish-Islamic term for prophetic scripture-revelation)
Original: ἐν λόγῳ κυρίου
Category: Faith
NEW. 4:15. Must not be rendered with bare vahiy without the same clarifying caution already established for the Galatians revelation entry; default to naming this as ‘the Lord’s own word.‘
Descend From Heaven
Approved rendering: Gökten inecek
Transliteration: gurk-TEN ee-neh-JEK
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: a phrasing collapsing into göğe alındı (the Luke package’s ascension term), which describes the opposite directional movement
Original: καταβήσεται ἀπ᾿ οὐρανοῦ
Category: Christology
NEW. 4:16. Christ’s own visible, downward, directional return, corresponding to but not identical with his earlier ascension; the two events must remain clearly distinguishable while their correspondence remains teachable.
Medium Risk Terms
Peace
Approved rendering: Esenlik
Transliteration: eh-sen-LEEK
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: huzur (inner calm), barış (political/interpersonal peace)
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 1:1; 5:23 in its doctrinal sense. Distinguish from the ordinary, non-technical ‘peace and security’ of 5:3 (see peace_and_security below), which uses the same word in a lower-stakes sense.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın Egemenliği
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn eh-geh-men-lee-EE
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: Tanrı’nın devleti (God’s state/nation)

Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 5:20 (‘do not despise prophecies’); never kehanet.
Gentiles
Approved rendering: Uluslar
Transliteration: oo-loos-LAHR
Doctrine: Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: kafirler (unbelievers/infidels, an Islamic religious-legal category)
Original: ἔθνη
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 2:16; 4:5. Never kafirler.
Apostle
Approved rendering: Elçi
Transliteration: el-CHEE
Doctrine: Apostleship
Rejected alternatives: resul / peygamber (prophet-messenger)
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 2:6 (‘we could have made demands as apostles of Christ’). Never resul/peygamber.
Church
Approved rendering: Kilise
Transliteration: kee-lee-SEH
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: cemaat (religious congregation/community, loaded in Turkish political usage)
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 1:1 (‘to the church of the Thessalonians’). Prefer kilise; cemaat carries contemporary political connotations best avoided here.
Archangel
Approved rendering: Başmelek
Transliteration: bahsh-meh-LEK
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: an implied identification with Cebrail (Gabriel)
Original: ἀρχάγγελος
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:16. No specific archangel is named in the verse; teaching material should note this explicitly.
Trumpet Of God
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın borazanı / borusu
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn boh-rah-zah-NUH
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: a vague abstraction such as ‘bir işaret’ (a signal)
Original: σάλπιγξ θεοῦ
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:16. Keep concrete, drawing on OT Day-of-the-LORD trumpet imagery (Joel 2:1; Zephaniah 1:16).
Shout Of Command
Approved rendering: Komut sesi
Transliteration: koh-MOOT seh-SEE
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: bir sesle (a vague ‘with a voice’, loses the command-force)
Original: κέλευσμα
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:16. Keep concrete and authoritative, military/royal register.
Meeting Apantesis
Approved rendering: Karşılamaya çıkmak
Transliteration: kahr-shuh-lah-mah-YAH chuhk-MAHK
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Rejected alternatives: buluşma (bare rendezvous, loses the civic-welcome/escort background image)
Original: ἀπάντησις
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:17. Preserves the technical Hellenistic civic-welcome image (citizens going out to formally meet and escort an arriving dignitary). The contested return-to-reign-vs-heavenward-removal exegetical question is flagged, not adjudicated.
With The Lord Forever
Approved rendering: Sonsuza dek Rab’le birlikte olacağız
Transliteration: sohn-soo-ZAH dehk RAHB-leh beer-leek-TEH oh-lah-jah-UHZ
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Original: σὺν κυρίῳ ἐσόμεθα
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:17. The climactic promise and pastoral center of the passage; should be foregrounded in teaching material over the apocalyptic mechanics of vv.16-17.
Triad Of Virtues
Approved rendering: İmanın işi, sevginin emeği, umuttan gelen dayanıklılık
Transliteration: ee-mah-NUHN ee-SHEE, sev-ghee-NEEN eh-meh-EE, oo-moot-TAHN geh-LEN dah-yah-nuhk-luh-LUHK
Doctrine: Hope in Grief
Rejected alternatives: sabır alone for ὑπομονή (too passive; under-translates active endurance under pressure)
Original: ἔργον πίστεως, κόπος ἀγάπης, ὑπομονὴ ἐλπίδος
Category: Faith
NEW. 1:3. Faith, love, and hope are framed as active, costly, sustained virtues from the letter’s opening, not static inner states.
Word Of God Preached
Approved rendering: Tanrı’nın sözü
Transliteration: tahn-RUH-nuhn soh-ZOO
Doctrine: Apostolic Authority and the Word of God
Original: λόγος θεοῦ
Category: Faith
NEW. 2:13. Continues the baseline’s Critical Inspiration of Scripture doctrine and its tahrif-related caution, applied here to the apostolic preached word.
Blameless
Approved rendering: Kusursuz / lekesiz
Transliteration: koo-soor-SOOZ / leh-keh-SEEZ
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: ἄμεμπτος
Category: Sanctification
NEW. 2:10; 3:13; 5:23. Recurs precisely at the intersection of Sanctification and the parousia doctrine. Keep in an ethical, never ritual-purity, register.
Walk Worthily
Approved rendering: Tanrı’ya yaraşır şekilde yaşamak
Transliteration: tahn-ruh-YAH yah-rah-SHUHR sheh-keel-DEH yah-shah-MAHK
Doctrine: Sanctification
Original: περιπατεῖν ἀξίως
Category: Sanctification
NEW. 2:12; 4:1. Standard NT conduct-metaphor; ‘yürümek’ may be retained literally where natural or rendered ‘yaşamak’ where more idiomatic, without loss of doctrinal content.
Satan And Tempter
Approved rendering: Şeytan / ayartıcı
Transliteration: sheh-TAHN / ah-yahr-tuh-JUH
Doctrine: Spiritual Opposition and Satan
Original: Σατανᾶς / ὁ πειράζων

Transliteration: ur-VOONCH tah-JUH
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Original: στέφανος καυχήσεως
Category: Eschatology

Holiness State
Approved rendering: Kutsallık
Transliteration: koot-sahl-LUHK
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: an unrelated synonym breaking continuity with the established Kutsal/Kutsallaşma word-family
Original: ἁγιωσύνη
Category: Sanctification
NEW. 3:13. Fuses Sanctification with the parousia as its stated horizon.
Avenger
Approved rendering: Öç alıcı / ceza verici
Transliteration: URCH ah-luh-JUH

Brotherly Love
Approved rendering: Kardeş sevgisi
Transliteration: kahr-DESH sev-ghee-SEE
Doctrine: Brotherly Love and Christian Community
Original: φιλαδελφία
Category: Sanctification
NEW. 4:9. Distinct from ἀγάπη’s more general Christian love. Cross-reference the baseline fellowship entry’s caution about kardeşlik’s ümmet-adjacent resonance; risk is lower here since φιλαδελφία is an explicit family-love metaphor native to Paul’s own argument.
Conduct Toward Outsiders
Approved rendering: Dışarıdakilere karşı uygun şekilde yaşamak
Transliteration: duh-shah-ruh-dah-kee-leh-REH kahr-SHUH oo-ee-GOON sheh-keel-DEH yah-shah-MAHK

Transliteration: uh-shuh-UHN choh-jook-lah-RUH
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: conflation with doğuştan gazap çocukları (an unrelated baseline construction), a Gnostic/Manichean cosmic-dualism reading of co-equal opposing forces
Original: υἱοὶ φωτός, υἱοὶ ἡμέρας
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 5:5, 8. An ethical-behavioral contrast (identity and expected conduct), not a cosmological dualism claim. Must be kept lexically distinct from children_of_wrath.
Watch And Be Sober
Approved rendering: Uyanık ve ayık olmak
Transliteration: oo-yah-NUHK veh ah-YUHK ohl-MAHK
Doctrine: Watchfulness and Sobriety

Doctrine: Resurrection of Believers
Rejected alternatives: an over-resolved statement of the full intermediate-state doctrine beyond what the verse itself states
Original: ἄξει σὺν αὐτῷ
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:14. God the Father brings the previously-departed believers together with the returning Christ. Flag as supplementary to, not a full statement of, the intermediate-state doctrine.
By No Means Precede
Approved rendering: Asla önlerine geçmeyeceğiz
Transliteration: ahs-LAH urn-leh-ree-NEH gech-meh-yeh-jeh-EEZ
Doctrine: Resurrection of Believers
Original: οὐ μὴ φθάσωμεν
Category: Eschatology

Clouds Theophany
Approved rendering: Bulutlar içinde
Transliteration: boo-loot-LAHR ee-cheen-DEH
Doctrine: The Return of Christ
Original: νεφέλαις
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 4:17. Signals a theophany (OT tradition: Exodus 19; Daniel 7:13; Acts 1:9), not mere meteorological cloud cover.
Sudden Destruction
Approved rendering: Ani yıkım
Transliteration: ah-NEE yuh-KUHM
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: helâk (a live Turkish-Islamic term for the Qur’anic pattern of collective destruction of disbelieving peoples, e.g. ‘Ad, Thamud; imports a collective-national judgment narrative foreign to Paul’s individual-accountability point)
Original: ὄλεθρος
Category: Eschatology
NEW. 5:3. Yıkım is the safer default rendering.
Fainthearted
Approved rendering: Cesareti kırılmışlar
Transliteration: jeh-sah-reh-TEE kuh-ruhl-muhsh-LAHR

Low Risk Terms
Exhort
Approved rendering: Teşvik etmek
Transliteration: tesh-VEEK et-MEK
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Inherited from Romans package, EXTENDED by this book. Context-sensitive: rica etmek (entreat) and teşvik etmek (encourage/build up) are the two baseline senses. 1 Thessalonians adds a third, grief/discouragement-specific sense — teselli etmek (console/comfort) — required at 2:12; 4:18; 5:14. See comfort_console below for the new sense; do not use teşvik etmek alone in grief contexts, which risks an overly brisk, motivational tone.
Thanksgiving

Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Original: εὐχαριστία
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. Reused at 1:2; 2:13; 5:18.

Doctrine: Justification by Faith
Rejected alternatives: a weak ‘hayır’

Imitators
Approved rendering: Örnek alanlar

Original: μιμηταί
Category: Ethics
NEW. 1:6. Straightforward; low false-friend risk.

Transliteration: koot-SAHL seh-lahm-lahsh-MAH
Doctrine: The Holy Kiss and Greeting Customs
Original: φίλημα ἅγιον

Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
