Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 1 Corinthians (English → Assamese)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md, spanning 1 Corinthians chapters 1–16. Terms already established in the baseline Romans Language Package are marked [Reused] and their baseline rendering is carried forward unchanged, per the hard rule that established terms must be reused exactly. Terms newly identified for 1 Corinthians are marked [New] and are proposed for formal addition to the extended translation memory in Phase 1 Step 3.
Risk tiers: Critical / High / Medium / Low, per the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions.

Part 2 — New Terms Proposed for 1 Corinthians Extended Translation Memory
| Term | Greek | Transliteration | Literal Meaning | Assamese | Risk | Doctrine Category | Chapters | Alternatives Rejected | Grounded Reasoning |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| cross | σταυρός | stauros | execution stake | ক্ৰুচ | High | The Cross as Wisdom and Power | 1 | generic “suffering symbol” | No direct Hindu-Assamese equivalent for a shame-symbol overturned into triumph; must not collapse into ascetic self-mortification imagery |
| wisdom | σοφία | sophia | skill, insight | প্ৰজ্ঞা | High | The Cross as Wisdom and Power | 1, 2, 8, 12 | জ্ঞান alone | Assamese জ্ঞান carries jnana-marga (path-of-knowledge) technical sense in Hindu/Vaishnavite thought; risks framing the cross as one spiritual “path” among others |
| foolishness | μωρία | mōria | folly | মূৰ্খতা | Medium | The Cross as Wisdom and Power | 1 | — | Must preserve deliberate Pauline paradox (apparent folly = God’s power) |
| mystery | μυστήριον | mystērion | hidden secret | নিগূঢ় তত্ত্ব | High | The Cross as Wisdom and Power / Resurrection | 2, 15 | ৰহস্য alone | Assam’s Kamakhya-centered Tantric-Shakta heritage includes initiatory secret doctrine (rahasya/guhya vidya); NT “mystery” is God’s plan once hidden but now openly revealed to all believers, not esoteric adept-only knowledge |
| temple (indwelling metaphor) | ναός | naos | inner sanctuary | ঈশ্বৰৰ নিবাসস্থান | Critical | Church Discipline and Holiness | 3, 6 | মন্দিৰ (unqualified) | মন্দিৰ denotes an image-housing Hindu shrine; unqualified use risks an image/murti-enshrinement reading of the believer’s body or the church |
| idol | εἴδωλον | eidōlon | image of a deity | মূৰ্তি / প্ৰতিমা | Critical | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat | 8, 10, 12 | — | Central, emotionally weighted term in Assamese Hindu/Ekasarana image worship; requires mandatory framing note that Paul denies the image’s independent divine reality without issuing a blanket cultural insult |
| idol food | εἰδωλόθυτον | eidōlothyton | meat sacrificed to idols | মূৰ্তিলৈ উৎসৰ্গ কৰা (খাদ্য) | High | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat | 8, 10 | — | Close functional parallel to Assamese Hindu prasad/naivedya (temple-offered food later consumed); risk of over- or under-application without careful framing |
| leaven | ζύμη | zymē | yeast | খমীৰ | Medium | Church Discipline and Holiness | 5 | — | Requires OT Passover-purge background for audience with low OT narrative literacy |
| Passover (Christ our Passover) | πάσχα | pascha | Passover [lamb] | নিস্তাৰপৰ্বৰ মেৰশাও | High | Church Discipline and Holiness | 5 | — | Requires explicit Exodus narrative background; fulfillment claim otherwise unintelligible |
| sexual immorality | πορνεία | porneia | illicit sexual activity | ব্যভিচাৰ | High | Church Discipline and Holiness / Marriage and Singleness | 5, 6, 7 | ritual-impurity terms | Moral transgression before a personal God, not ritual defilement removable by rite |

| virgin / singleness | παρθένος / ἄγαμος | parthenos / agamos | virgin / unmarried | কুমাৰী / অবিবাহিত | Medium | Marriage and Singleness | 7 | — | Risk of conflation with Satra celibate-bhakat monastic vocation; Paul’s singleness is voluntary and non-institutional |
| conscience | συνείδησις | syneidēsis | moral self-awareness | বিবেক | Medium | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat | 8, 10 | — | Must retain force of protecting a weaker believer’s genuine convictions, not mere etiquette |
| stumbling block | πρόσκομμα / σκάνδαλον | proskomma / skandalon | obstacle causing a fall | উজুটি খুওয়া বস্তু | Medium | Christian Liberty and Idol Meat | 8 | — | — |
| Lord’s Supper | κυριακὸν δεῖπνον | kyriakon deipnon | the Lord’s dinner | প্ৰভুৰ ভোজ | Critical | The Lord’s Supper | 11 | — | Institutional ordinance; must not be collapsed into a generic communal meal or devotional feast-offering |
| remembrance | ἀνάμνησις | anamnēsis | memorial | স্মৰণ | Medium | The Lord’s Supper | 11 | — | Active memorial re-enactment of a once-for-all sacrifice, not periodic devotional commemoration of a deity’s deeds |

| head / headship | κεφαλή | kephalē | head; source/authority | মূৰ / মূৰ স্বৰূপ | High | Order in Worship | 11 | — | Partial cultural parallel in Assamese head-covering custom (achal/sador); rationale (creation order) must not be conflated with surface cultural practice |

| tongues | γλῶσσαι | glōssai | languages / tongues | পৰভাষা | High | Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ / Order in Worship | 12, 13, 14 | — | Assam’s deodhani trance-possession tradition (Kamakhya worship) risks conflation; Spirit-given tongues are exercised under self-control and regulated order, unlike possession-trance oracular speech |
| interpretation (of tongues) | ἑρμηνεία | hermēneia | translation/explanation | অনুবাদ / ব্যাখ্যা | Low | Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ | 12, 14 | — | — |
| love | ἀγάπη | agapē | selfless, others-oriented love | প্ৰেম | High | Love as the Greater Way | 13 | — | Assamese প্ৰেম/ভক্তি vocabulary carries devotional prema-bhakti (Krishna-devotion) longing register; Paul’s ἀγάπη is ethical, others-directed, behaviorally defined love, ranked above devotional/spiritual-gift displays |
| hope | ἐλπίς | elpis | confident expectation | আশা | Medium | Love as the Greater Way | 13 | — | Confident expectation grounded in God’s promise, not wishful uncertainty; propose formal addition alongside faith/love |
| edify / build up | οἰκοδομή / οἰκοδομέω | oikodomē / oikodomeō | building up | গঠন কৰা / উন্নতি সাধন কৰা | Low | Order in Worship | 14 | — | — |

| imperishable | ἄφθαρτος | aphthartos | undecaying | অক্ষয় | Medium | The Resurrection of Christ and Believers | 15 | — | Assamese অক্ষয় is used of the eternal, changeless soul (atman) surviving rebirth; here must be anchored to the resurrected body’s new quality, not a pre-existing untouched soul-substance |
| appeared (resurrection witness) | ὤφθη | ōphthē | was seen / appeared | দৰ্শন দিলে | Critical | The Resurrection of Christ and Believers | 15 | vision/dream terms | Must convey a real, embodied appearing to named witnesses, not a subjective vision or spiritual impression |

| fallen asleep | κοιμάομαι | koimaomai | to sleep | নিদ্ৰিত হৈছিল | Medium | The Resurrection of Christ and Believers | 15 | — | NT death-euphemism implying resurrection hope, not an intermediate rebirth state |
| Maranatha | μαράνα θά | marana tha | ”Our Lord, come!” | মাৰানাথা | Low | The Resurrection of Christ and Believers / closing | 16 | paraphrase | Retain transliteration, per baseline’s treatment of Abba |
| holy kiss | φίλημα ἅγιον | philēma hagion | holy kiss | পবিত্ৰ চুমা | Low | Christian Unity versus Factionalism | 16 | — | Culturally distant greeting custom; explanatory note recommended, not doctrinally load-bearing |

Part 4 — Chapters Reviewed With No New Theological Vocabulary
Per the full-book-coverage mandate, the following is noted explicitly: Chapter 14 introduces no new core theological terms beyond those already established in chapters 1, 8, and 12 (tongues, prophecy, interpretation, edification); its distinctive contribution is regulatory/doctrinal (order in worship) rather than lexical, and is captured under the “Order in Worship” cross-reference in Part 3 above. Chapter 16 likewise introduces only two new items (Maranatha, holy kiss) beyond terms already established earlier in the book; its remaining content (greetings, grace benediction) reuses established Part 1 terms exactly. Both chapters are confirmed reviewed in analysis/07_semantic_analysis.md and are not silently omitted.
Critical Risk Terms
Righteousness

Transliteration: dharmikôta
Doctrine: Redemption: Bought with a Price
Rejected alternatives: ধৰ্ম, পুণ্য, ন্যায়
Original: δικαιοσύνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Never ধৰ্ম. In 1:30 Christ himself becomes believers’ righteousness.
Justification
Approved rendering: ধাৰ্মিক বুলি গণ্য কৰা

Doctrine: Redemption: Bought with a Price
Rejected alternatives: ক্ষমা পোৱা, পুণ্য লাভ কৰা
Original: δικαιόω / ἐδικαιώθητε

Transliteration: poritran
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: মুক্তি, মোক্ষ, নিস্তাৰ
Original: σωτηρία / σῴζω
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER মুক্তি or মোক্ষ. 15:2’s present-passive ‘being saved’ must not sound like self-effort toward moksha.
Resurrection
Approved rendering: পুনৰুত্থান
Transliteration: punoruththan
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: পুনৰ্জন্ম, পুনৰ্জীৱন
Original: ἀνάστασις / ἐγείρω
Category: Eschatology
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER পুনৰ্জন্ম. Chapter 15 is the fullest NT treatment of this doctrine and the letter’s core passage’s subject; mandatory distinguishing note from rebirth/সংসাৰ at EVERY first occurrence, not merely once per document.
Lord
Approved rendering: প্ৰভু
Transliteration: prôbhu
Doctrine: Christian Unity versus Factionalism
Rejected alternatives: স্বামী, ঈশ্বৰ
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Invoked throughout (1:2, 8:6, 12:3, 16:22-23); must convey exclusive Lordship, not one honorific among the many devotional titles addressed to deities in Assamese religious speech.
Messiah
Approved rendering: মচীহ
Transliteration: mosih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: অভিষিক্ত ব্যক্তি, অৱতাৰ পুৰুষ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Reserved for explicit OT Messianic-title / promise-fulfillment contexts. See new ‘christ’ entry below for খ্ৰীষ্ট, the near-proper-name form Paul uses throughout 1 Corinthians (Χριστός functioning almost as Jesus’s second name, e.g. 15:3).
Jesus
Approved rendering: যীচু
Transliteration: Yisu
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: ঈছা
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Central to the resurrection appearances (15:1-11) and the confession ‘Jesus is Lord’ (12:3).
God

Transliteration: Iswôr
Doctrine: Idolatry and Exclusive Worship of the One God
Rejected alternatives: ভগৱান, পৰমেশ্বৰ

Approved rendering: পবিত্ৰ আত্মা
Transliteration: pobitrô atma
Doctrine: The Believer’s Body and the Church as God’s Temple
Rejected alternatives: ব্ৰহ্ম, পৰমাত্মা

Transliteration: pita
Doctrine: Idolatry and Exclusive Worship of the One God
Rejected alternatives: ব্ৰহ্মা, সৃষ্টিকৰ্তা

Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. 8:6, 15:24: the one God ‘from whom all things are.‘
Christ
Approved rendering: খ্ৰীষ্ট
Transliteration: Khristô
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: মচীহ (reserved for OT title-fulfillment contexts), অৱতাৰ পুৰুষ
New term for this curriculum, though already established as the transliteration standard for ‘Christ’ in the baseline 12_ai_translation_requirements.md proper-name table. Χριστός functions almost as a proper name throughout 1 Corinthians (e.g. 15:3-4, 15:12-23). Must not be assimilated to Sankardev’s founder-status within Ekasarana Dharma nor to Krishna as one of Vishnu’s avatars.
Temple
Approved rendering: ঈশ্বৰৰ নিবাসস্থান
Transliteration: Iswôror nibaxôsthan
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: মন্দিৰ (unqualified)
Original: ναός
Category: Sanctification
New term. GROUNDED REASON: unqualified মন্দিৰ denotes an image-housing Hindu shrine; a literal rendering risks the reader picturing the church (3:16-17) or the believer’s own body (6:19) as an image-shrine or a Tantric body-as-sacred-vessel object. Mandatory translator note at every occurrence: names the Spirit’s personal indwelling, with no image or shrine object involved.
Idol
Approved rendering: মূৰ্তি
Transliteration: murti
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: εἴδωλον
Category: Idolatry
New term. GROUNDED REASON: মূৰ্তি/প্ৰতিমা are the standard, emotionally central Assamese words for images venerated in Assamese Hindu, Ekasarana Namghar, and Kamakhya devotional practice. Mandatory framing note at first occurrence (8:4-7, 10:1-22) distinguishing Paul’s doctrinal claim (exclusive monotheism; no independent divine reality in the image) from a blanket cultural insult against family/community religious practice.
Redemption
Approved rendering: মূল্য দি ক্ৰয় কৰা
Transliteration: mulyô di kroy kôra
Doctrine: Redemption: Bought with a Price
Rejected alternatives: মুক্তি (forbidden)
Original: ἀπολύτρωσις / ἀγοράζω
Category: Salvation
New term. 1:30, 6:20, 7:23. Must NEVER be rendered মুক্তি, the forbidden baseline term for rebirth-cycle liberation. Compound preserves the price-paid/ownership logic grounding the ethical appeal to bodily holiness.
Lords Supper
Approved rendering: প্ৰভুৰ ভোজ
Transliteration: prôbhur bhoj
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Rejected alternatives: generic communal meal framing
Original: κυριακὸν δεῖπνον
Category: Lord’s Supper
New term. 11:17-34. The church ordinance instituted by Christ himself; must never be collapsed into a generic shared meal or a devotional feast-offering pattern (prasad/naivedya-style commemoration).
Appeared
Approved rendering: দৰ্শন দিলে
Transliteration: dôrxôn dile
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: vision/dream terms, spiritual-impression terms
Original: ὤφθη
Category: Resurrection
New term. 15:5-8. Must convey a real, embodied appearing to named, checkable witnesses, never a mere vision, dream, or subjective spiritual impression — which would concede a ‘spiritual-only’ resurrection reading compatible with rebirth-cycle thought.
High Risk Terms
Gospel
Approved rendering: সুসমাচাৰ
Transliteration: xusomacar
Doctrine: The Gospel as Fixed Apostolic Tradition
Rejected alternatives: ভাল খবৰ, শুভবাৰ্তা
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Established ABS term. In 1 Cor 15:1-4, 15:11 the gospel is a fixed apostolic deposit received and stood upon, not a personally-formed devotional opinion or one valid naam-proclamation among several; must not be softened to generic good news.
Grace
Approved rendering: অনুগ্ৰহ
Transliteration: anugrôh
Doctrine: Grace versus Merit in Christian Ministry
Rejected alternatives: কৃপা, দয়া, বৰ, সৌভাগ্য, পুণ্য
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. 1 Cor 15:9-10 is a textbook grace-versus-merit passage (Paul’s unworthy apostleship made fruitful by grace alone); must never suggest a boon (বৰ) earned by devotion or effort.
Faith
Approved rendering: বিশ্বাস
Transliteration: biswax
Doctrine: Faith, Hope, and Love as Enduring Virtues
Rejected alternatives: শ্ৰদ্ধা, ভক্তি
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith
Inherited from Romans package. In 1 Cor 15:2, 11, 14, 17, faith is tied specifically to the historicity of the resurrection; distinguish from bhakti devotional surrender.
Called
Approved rendering: মতা
Transliteration: matā
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: আমন্ত্ৰিত, নিমন্ত্ৰণ কৰা
Original: κλητός
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In 1 Cor: apostleship (1:1), sainthood (1:2), fellowship (1:9), the foolish/weak chosen (1:26-28), and 15:9 (disqualifying sense, ‘not fit to be called an apostle’).
Calling
Approved rendering: মতনি
Transliteration: motoni
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: আমন্ত্ৰণ
Original: κλῆσις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Applied in 7:20 to the state in which one was called.

Approved rendering: পবিত্ৰ
Transliteration: pobitrô
Doctrine: Sainthood (Called to be Holy)
Rejected alternatives: শুচি, নিৰ্মল
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. Applied to believers’ status (1:2) and conduct (7:34).
Saints
Approved rendering: পবিত্ৰ লোক
Transliteration: pobitrô lok
Doctrine: Sainthood (Called to be Holy)
Rejected alternatives: সন্ত, ভক্ত
Original: ἅγιοι / ἡγιασμένοις
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Sharpened in 1 Corinthians: addressed to the whole visibly flawed, quarrelsome Corinthian congregation — a granted corporate status, never সন্ত/ভক্ত (an achieved devotional elite).
Sanctification
Approved rendering: পবিত্ৰীকৰণ
Transliteration: pobitrikoron
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: শুচিকৰণ, সংস্কাৰ
Original: ἁγιασμός / ἡγιάσθητε
Category: Sanctification
Inherited from Romans package. 1:30, 6:11. Distinguish from সংস্কাৰ ritual-purification rites.
Law
Approved rendering: বিধান
Transliteration: bidhan
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: ধৰ্ম, নিয়ম
Original: νόμος
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. Never ধৰ্ম. Referenced as missionary accommodation (9:8-9, 20-21) and in 15:56’s condemning-power-over-sin argument.
Sin
Approved rendering: পাপ
Transliteration: pap
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Rejected alternatives: অধৰ্ম, অশুচিতা
Original: ἁμαρτία
Category: Sin
Inherited from Romans package. Christ died ‘for our sins’ (15:3); death’s power rooted in sin (15:56).
Glory
Approved rendering: মহিমা
Transliteration: môhima
Doctrine: Eschatological Hope and the Transformed Resurrection Body
Rejected alternatives: দেৱজ্যোতি, তেজ
Original: δόξα
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Goal of all conduct (10:31); quality of the resurrection body (15:43).
Covenant
Approved rendering: নিয়ম
Transliteration: niyôm
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Rejected alternatives: চুক্তি, বন্দোবস্ত
Original: διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
Inherited from Romans package. The Supper cup is ‘the new covenant in my blood’ (11:25); see also new_covenant compound entry below.
Power Of God
Approved rendering: ঈশ্বৰৰ শক্তি
Transliteration: Iswôror xôkti
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: বল
Original: δύναμις θεοῦ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Demonstrated in the cross (1:18, 24) and Spirit-empowered preaching (2:4-5), not human eloquence. Always paired with ঈশ্বৰৰ.
Election
Approved rendering: ঈশ্বৰৰ মনোনয়ন
Transliteration: Iswôror monônoyon
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: ভাগ্য, নিয়তি, কপাল
Original: ἐκλέγομαι
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. God’s sovereign choice of the foolish, weak, and lowly to shame the wise and strong (1:27-28); not fate or karma-determined destiny.
Abba
Approved rendering: আব্বা
Transliteration: Abba
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: אַבָּא (pattern)
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package as a methodological pattern (retain Aramaic terms of intimacy/invocation untranslated). Applied in this curriculum to Maranatha (16:22); see new ‘maranatha’ entry below.
Cross
Approved rendering: ক্ৰুচ
Transliteration: krusô
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: generic suffering symbol, renunciation symbol
Original: σταυρός
Category: Wisdom and Power
New term. No direct Hindu-Assamese cultural equivalent for a shame-symbol overturned into triumph. Must not be softened into ascetic self-mortification imagery echoing Satra bhakat practice. 1:17-18, 2:2.
Wisdom
Approved rendering: প্ৰজ্ঞা
Transliteration: prôgya
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: জ্ঞান (unqualified)
Original: σοφία
Category: Wisdom and Power
New term. GROUNDED REASON: Assamese জ্ঞান carries the specific technical sense of jnana-marga, one of three classical Hindu paths (jnana/karma/bhakti-marga) to liberation. Rendering ‘wisdom’ as জ্ঞান risks the reader hearing the cross as one rival spiritual path rather than the reversal of all human wisdom-paths. Translator note required at first occurrence (1:17-25, 2:6-7, 3:19).
Mystery
Approved rendering: নিগূঢ় তত্ত্ব
Transliteration: nigudhô tôttô
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Rejected alternatives: ৰহস্য (unqualified)
Original: μυστήριον
Category: Wisdom and Power
New term. GROUNDED REASON: Assam’s Kamakhya-centered Tantric-Shakta heritage includes initiatory secret doctrine (rahasya/guhya vidya) transmitted only to initiates under a guru. Unqualified ৰহস্য risks assimilating Paul’s mystery — God’s plan formerly hidden, now openly revealed to all believers — into that adept-only framework. Mandatory translator note at first occurrence (2:1, 7; 15:51).
Spiritual Person Natural Person
Approved rendering: আত্মিক মানুহ / প্ৰাণিক মানুহ
Transliteration: atmik manuh / pranik manuh
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Original: πνευματικός / ψυχικὸς ἄνθρωπος
Category: Wisdom and Power
New term. Binary distinction (Spirit-indwelt believer vs. unbeliever, 2:14-15), not a graduated hierarchy of spiritual attainment as recognized in Ekasarana devotional adept-tiers.
Idol Food
Approved rendering: মূৰ্তিলৈ উৎসৰ্গ কৰা খাদ্য
Transliteration: murtiloi utsôrgô kôra khadyô
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: εἰδωλόθυτον
Category: Idolatry
New term. Close functional parallel to Assamese Hindu prasad/naivedya (temple-offered food later consumed); requires careful framing to avoid both over-application (blanket condemnation of family food customs) and under-application (careless indifference). 8:1-13.
Table Of The Lord And Demons
Approved rendering: প্ৰভুৰ মেজ আৰু ভূতৰ মেজ
Transliteration: prôbhur mej aru bhutor mej
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: τράπεζα κυρίου / δαιμονίων
Category: Idolatry
New term. 10:14-22. The contrast is exclusive spiritual participation, not dietary preference; must be handled with theologian/native-speaker joint review given acute cultural sensitivity.
Passover
Approved rendering: নিস্তাৰপৰ্বৰ মেৰশাও
Transliteration: nistarporbor merxao
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: পাস্খা (bare transliteration, unintelligible without gloss)
Original: πάσχα
Category: Church Discipline
New term. 5:7 (‘Christ our Passover lamb’). Requires explicit Exodus narrative background; without it the fulfillment claim reads as an obscure metaphor.
Hand Over To Satan
Approved rendering: শয়তানৰ হাতত সোপৰ্দ কৰা
Transliteration: xoitanor hatôt xopôrd kôra
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Original: παραδοῦναι τῷ Σατανᾷ
Category: Church Discipline
New term. 5:5. Corrective, restorative church discipline (‘that his spirit may be saved’), not a curse pronouncement or folk exorcism ritual common in Assamese popular religion (bhoot-jhora, ojha practice).
Sexual Immorality
Approved rendering: ব্যভিচাৰ
Transliteration: byabhicar
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Rejected alternatives: ritual-impurity terms (অশুচিতা)
Original: πορνεία
Category: Sin
New term. Ch. 5-7. Moral transgression before a personal God, not ritual defilement removable by rite; church discipline flows from moral seriousness.
New Covenant
Approved rendering: নতুন নিয়ম
Transliteration: nôtun niyôm
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: καινὴ διαθήκη
Category: Covenant
New term. Compound of the inherited baseline covenant term (নিয়ম) with ‘new’; 11:25, ‘the new covenant in my blood.’ Must retain relational-bond force, not a mere new arrangement.
Discerning The Body
Approved rendering: শৰীৰ যথাযথভাৱে বিচাৰ কৰা
Transliteration: xôrir jôthajôthôbhabe bicar kôra
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: διακρίνων τὸ σῶμα
Category: Lord’s Supper
New term. 11:27-29. Genuine self-examination regarding the Supper’s meaning, not merely physical perception of the elements.
Head Headship
Approved rendering: মূৰ স্বৰূপ
Transliteration: mur sôrup
Doctrine: Order in Worship
Original: κεφαλή
Category: Worship Order
New term. 11:1-16. GROUNDED REASON: the Assamese custom of covering the head (achal/sador) during worship/before elders offers a functional parallel aiding comprehension, but Paul’s rationale is theological (creation order, Christ-God relationship), not social custom or caste hierarchy; requires a cultural-bridge note distinguishing the two.
Body Of Christ
Approved rendering: খ্ৰীষ্টৰ শৰীৰ
Transliteration: Khristor xôrir
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Original: σῶμα Χριστοῦ / μέλη
Category: Spiritual Gifts
New term. 6:15 (‘members of Christ’), 12:12-27. The equal-honor interdependence doctrine directly confronts caste-consciousness in Assamese social structure; must not be softened.
Tongues
Approved rendering: পৰভাষা
Transliteration: pôrôbhaxa
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: glossolalia (transliteration, opaque to target reading level)
Original: γλῶσσαι
Category: Spiritual Gifts
New term. GROUNDED REASON: Assam’s living deodhani trance tradition tied to Kamakhya worship involves mediums under possession-trance with displaced personal agency uttering oracular speech. Spirit-given tongues (12:10, 28, 30; ch. 14) are exercised by a self-controlled believer, always subject to Paul’s own regulation of order. Mandatory translator note at first occurrence distinguishing the two phenomena. Risk tier High, not Critical, because this is a phenomenological rather than core-doctrinal collision.
Love
Approved rendering: প্ৰেম
Transliteration: prem
Doctrine: Love as the Greater Way
Rejected alternatives: ভক্তি
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Love
New term. GROUNDED REASON: Assamese প্ৰেম/ভক্তি vocabulary carries devotional prema-bhakti (Krishna-devotion) longing register directed at a chosen deity. Paul’s ἀγάπη (ch. 13) is ethical, others-directed, behaviorally defined love toward fellow believers, explicitly ranked above devotional/spiritual-gift displays. প্ৰেম is unavoidable (no viable substitute), but a translator note distinguishing it from prema-bhakti is mandatory at first occurrence, especially 13:1-3.
Spiritual Body Natural Body
Approved rendering: আত্মিক শৰীৰ / স্বাভাৱিক শৰীৰ
Transliteration: atmik xôrir / sôbhabik xôrir
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: σῶμα πνευματικόν / σῶμα ψυχικόν
Category: Eschatology
New term. 15:44. Must convey a real, transformed, imperishable physical body, not a disembodied spirit-only afterlife state and not reincarnation into a different body within সংসাৰ.
Delivered Received Tradition
Approved rendering: হস্তান্তৰ কৰা / গ্ৰহণ কৰা
Transliteration: hôstantôr kôra / grôhon kôra
Doctrine: The Gospel as Fixed Apostolic Tradition
Original: παρέδωκα / παρέλαβον
Category: Resurrection
New term. 15:1, 3 (παραδίδωμι/παραλαμβάνω). Technical rabbinic-style transmission of a fixed apostolic creed; must convey formal transmission of a deposit, not Paul’s personal opinion.
Medium Risk Terms
Apostle
Approved rendering: প্ৰেৰিত
Transliteration: prerito
Doctrine: Apostolic Authority and Ministry
Rejected alternatives: দূত, গুৰু
Original: ἀπόστολος
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Never গুৰু — would collapse apostolic authority into the Ekasarana Satradhikar guru-succession role. Central to 15:7-9’s self-description.
Church
Approved rendering: মণ্ডলী
Transliteration: môndoli
Doctrine: Church as God’s People in Corporate Unity
Rejected alternatives: মন্দিৰ, নামঘৰ
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. NEVER নামঘৰ. Local assembly, 1:2, 5, 6, 11, 12, 14.
Kingdom Of God
Approved rendering: ঈশ্বৰৰ ৰাজ্য
Transliteration: Iswôror rajyo
Doctrine: Eschatological Hope and the Transformed Resurrection Body
Rejected alternatives: ঈশ্বৰৰ ৰাষ্ট্ৰ
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom
Inherited from Romans package. 4:20 (‘not in talk but in power’), 6:9-10, and 15:50 (destination of resurrection transformation).
Spiritual Gifts
Approved rendering: আত্মিক বৰ
Transliteration: atmik bôr
Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Rejected alternatives: বৰ, দৈৱী শক্তি
Original: χαρίσματα / πνευματικά
Category: Spiritual Gifts
Inherited from Romans package. Never বৰ alone. Applied even to the state of marriage/celibacy (7:7) and to the full gift-list of chs. 12, 14.
Peace
Approved rendering: শান্তি
Transliteration: xanti
Doctrine: Order in Worship
Rejected alternatives: সুখ, প্ৰশান্তি
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Opening greeting (1:3) and God’s character in worship (14:33).
Mission
Approved rendering: সুসমাচাৰ প্ৰচাৰ
Transliteration: xusomacar prôcar
Doctrine: The Gospel as Fixed Apostolic Tradition
Original: εὐαγγελίζω / κηρύσσω
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Avoids the loaded institutional associations of মিছন. 1:17, 9:14-23, 15:11.
Foolishness
Approved rendering: মূৰ্খতা
Transliteration: murkhôta
Doctrine: The Cross as Wisdom and Power
Original: μωρία
Category: Wisdom and Power
New term. Antonym-pair to প্ৰজ্ঞা; must retain the deliberate Pauline paradox (1:18, 21, 23, 25) — what appears foolish is in fact God’s saving power.
Leaven
Approved rendering: খমীৰ
Transliteration: khômir
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Holiness
Original: ζύμη
Category: Church Discipline
New term. 5:6-8. Requires explicit OT Passover-purge background explanation for an audience with low OT narrative literacy.
Flesh Carnal
Approved rendering: মাংসিক
Transliteration: mangsik
Doctrine: Christian Unity versus Factionalism
Original: σαρκικός
Category: Sanctification
New term. 3:1, 3. Describes immature, quarrelsome believers, not unbelievers; must not collapse into a strict flesh-vs-spirit binary erasing the Corinthians’ status as believers.
Virgin Singleness
Approved rendering: কুমাৰী / অবিবাহিত
Transliteration: kumari / obibahitô
Doctrine: Marriage and Singleness
Original: παρθένος / ἄγαμος
Category: Marriage
New term. 7:7-8, 25-38. GROUNDED REASON: Assam’s Satra institutions include celibate bhakats renouncing marriage within an ascetic religious vocation; Paul’s voluntary, non-institutional singleness (open to any believer) requires a distinguishing translator note from that monastic model.
Conscience
Approved rendering: বিবেক
Transliteration: bibek
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: συνείδησις
Category: Christian Liberty
New term. 8:7, 10, 12. Must not be flattened into generalized social etiquette; concerns not causing another believer to sin against sincere conviction.
Stumbling Block
Approved rendering: উজুটি খুওয়া বস্তু
Transliteration: ujuti khuowa bôstu
Doctrine: Christian Liberty and Idol Meat
Original: πρόσκομμα
Category: Christian Liberty
New term. 8:9-13. Retains the weight of causing spiritual harm to a fellow believer, not mere social awkwardness.
Remembrance
Approved rendering: স্মৰণ
Transliteration: smôrôn
Doctrine: The Lord’s Supper
Original: ἀνάμνησις
Category: Lord’s Supper
New term. 11:24-25 (‘do this in remembrance of me’). Active, participatory memorial re-enactment of a once-for-all historical sacrifice, not periodic devotional commemoration of a deity’s mythic deeds.
Hope
Approved rendering: আশা
Transliteration: axa
Doctrine: Faith, Hope, and Love as Enduring Virtues
Original: ἐλπίς
Category: Love
New term, newly formalized for this curriculum. 13:13. Must convey confident future expectation grounded in God’s promise, not wishful uncertainty.
Firstfruits
Approved rendering: প্ৰথম গুটি
Transliteration: prôthôm guti
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: ἀπαρχή
Category: Eschatology
New term. 15:20, 23. Christ’s resurrection previews and guarantees believers’ future resurrection; requires brief agricultural-metaphor explanation.
Adam Last Adam
Approved rendering: আদম / শেষ আদম
Transliteration: Adam / xex Adam
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: Ἀδάμ / ὁ ἔσχατος Ἀδάμ
Category: Eschatology
New term (established proper-name transliteration). 15:21-22, 45. Requires the reader to know the Genesis Adam narrative; brief OT background note recommended given low OT narrative literacy.
Imperishable
Approved rendering: অক্ষয়
Transliteration: ôkhôy
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: ἄφθαρτος / ἀφθαρσία
Category: Eschatology
New term. 15:42, 50, 52-54. GROUNDED REASON: Assamese অক্ষয় is standard devotional/philosophical vocabulary for the eternal, changeless soul (atman) surviving সংসাৰ. Must be anchored strictly to the resurrected physical body’s new quality, never to a pre-existing untouched soul-substance, which 15:36-38 explicitly denies.
Fallen Asleep
Approved rendering: নিদ্ৰিত হৈছিল
Transliteration: nidritô hoichilô
Doctrine: The Resurrection of Christ and Believers
Original: κοιμάομαι / ἐκοιμήθησαν
Category: Resurrection
New term. 15:6, 18, 20, 51. NT death-euphemism implying resurrection hope; translator note should clarify this is not a claim implying an intermediate rebirth state consistent with সংসাৰ.
Low Risk Terms

Transliteration: xohobhagita
Doctrine: Church as God’s People in Corporate Unity
Rejected alternatives: বন্ধুত্ব, সমাজ

Doctrine: Spiritual Gifts and the Body of Christ
Original: ἑρμηνεία

Transliteration: pobitrô cuma
Doctrine: Church as God’s People in Corporate Unity
