Cross-Reference Analysis
Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis — Mark 1–16
Purpose
This document catalogs every Old Testament quotation and allusion, every messianic reference, every typological pattern, and every significant parallel to the baseline Romans curriculum found across the entire Gospel of Mark. It exists to give Phase 2 translators a single lookup table for (a) where a passage requires citation-consistency with an existing or future Assamese Old Testament rendering, (b) where a passage requires citation-consistency with the Romans Language Package already delivered to this destination language, and (c) where a passage carries elevated syncretism risk requiring a translator note per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.
Citation Normalization Convention
All Scripture references in this document and in all downstream Phase 2 artifacts must be written in the normalized form:
<Full Book Name> <chapter>:<verse> — e.g., Mark 10:45, Isaiah 53:12, Genesis 15:6, Psalm 118:22, Romans 3:24.
- Book names spelled in full English form in this internal working document (Assamese book-name forms per
12_ai_translation_requirements.md§Cross-Reference Preservation Rules apply only to the destination-language study output, not this internal analysis file). - Verse numbers always Arabic numerals.
- Ranges use a hyphen with no spaces:
Mark 10:35-45. - No abbreviated book names (no “Rom.”, “Isa.”, “Ps.”).
Cross-Reference Matrix — Mark 1–16
Chapter 1
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 1:2-3 | Fulfillment of Prophecy; Kingdom of God Breaking In | John the Baptist | Composite citation: Malachi 3:1 + Isaiah 40:3, introduced as one quotation (“as it is written in Isaiah the prophet”) | Medium. Preserve the composite-citation nature; render as direct, historically fulfilled prophecy (ভাববাণী), not one devotional voice among many. |
| Mark 1:6 | Messianic Secret (forerunner typology) | John the Baptist / Elijah | Allusion: 2 Kings 1:8 (Elijah’s garment) | Low-Medium. Typological allusion, not quotation; a note identifying John as the promised Elijah-forerunner (see Mark 9:11-13; Malachi 4:5-6) aids low-OT-literacy readers. |
| Mark 1:11 | Sonship of Christ; Jesus as Suffering Servant | Jesus; voice of the Father | Allusion: Psalm 2:7 (royal enthronement, “you are my son”) + Isaiah 42:1 (Servant, “in whom my soul delights”) | Critical. Fuses royal-Messiah and Suffering-Servant identity in one declaration. Must render ঈশ্বৰৰ পুত্ৰ consistently with Romans’ “son_of_god” entry; parallels Mark 9:7 and Romans 1:4. |
| Mark 1:15 | Kingdom of God Breaking In | Jesus | Thematic fulfillment of Daniel 7 and the Isaianic kingdom-announcements generally; no single verbatim citation | Medium. ঈশ্বৰৰ ৰাজ্য (baseline reuse); note inaugurated-not-only-future sense of ἤγγικεν. |
| Mark 1:44 | Jesus’ Authority over Sickness | Jesus, the cleansed leper, priests | Background: Leviticus 14:1-32 (cleansing ritual and priestly certification) | Medium. শুচি কৰা (ritual cleanness), distinct from পবিত্ৰ (moral holiness). |
Chapter 2
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 2:25-26 | Lordship of Christ; Sabbath authority | David, Jesus | Allusion: 1 Samuel 21:1-6 (David and the showbread) | Medium. Requires a short background note on the tabernacle showbread. |
| Mark 2:28 | Jesus’ Authority over the Law | Jesus | Institutional background: Genesis 2:2-3 (Sabbath instituted at creation) | Critical. “Lord of the Sabbath” uses প্ৰভু (baseline Critical term); must not be softened to “master” of a mere custom. |
Chapter 3
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 3:14 | Kingdom of God Breaking In (new covenant community) | The Twelve | Typology: twelve tribes of Israel (Genesis 49; Exodus 24:4) | Medium. The Twelve as reconstituted-Israel typology; avoid collapsing into a generic “committee of disciples.” |
| Mark 3:27 | Jesus’ Authority over Satan | Jesus, Satan | Possible allusion: Isaiah 49:24-25 (plunder taken from the mighty) | Medium. |
| Mark 3:28-29 | (Unforgivable sin doctrine) | — | No direct OT citation; unique Markan theological statement | Critical. See glossary “blasphemy against the Holy Spirit”; narrow, precise definition required. |
Chapter 4
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 4:12 | The Messianic Secret | Crowds, disciples | Direct quotation: Isaiah 6:9-10 (“seeing they may see and not perceive”) | Critical. Must preserve the judicial-hardening purpose of parabolic teaching, not present it as mere pedagogical failure. Governs ৰাজ্যৰ ৰহস্য rendering. |
| Mark 4:32 | Kingdom of God Breaking In | — | Allusion: Ezekiel 17:22-24; Daniel 4:10-12 (kingdom depicted as a great tree sheltering birds) | Medium. Avoid conflating with cosmic-tree imagery from Hindu cosmology (e.g., the Ashvattha/world-tree of Bhagavad Gita 15); add a distinguishing note if needed. |
| Mark 4:39 | Jesus’ Authority over Nature; Deity of Christ | Jesus | Allusion: Psalm 107:28-29; Job 38:11; Psalm 89:9 (only YHWH commands and stills the sea) | High. This is a direct divine-prerogative allusion; Jesus’ authority over the storm must be rendered as the same prerogative exercised by God alone in the OT — a deity-of-Christ claim embedded in a nature-miracle. |
Chapter 5
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 5:34 | Faith and Discipleship amid Fear | The woman with the flow of blood | Thematic echo: Habakkuk 2:4 (“the righteous shall live by his faith”), the same OT text underlying Romans 1:17 | High. Direct parallel to the Romans curriculum’s thesis verse; বিশ্বাস must be rendered identically to the baseline Romans term with no drift. |
| Mark 5:41 | Jesus’ Authority over Sickness and Death | Jairus’ daughter, Jesus | Typology: Elijah raising the widow’s son (1 Kings 17:17-24); Elisha raising the Shunammite’s son (2 Kings 4:32-37) | Medium. A prophetic-typology note situates Jesus as fulfilling and exceeding the prophetic pattern. |
Chapter 6
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 6:34 | Kingdom of God Breaking In; Jesus as true Shepherd-King | Jesus, the crowds | Allusion: Numbers 27:17; Ezekiel 34:5,23 (“my servant David” as shepherd); 1 Kings 22:17 | High. Ties Jesus directly to the Davidic shepherd-king expectation; keep consistent with “Son of David” glossary entry. |
| Mark 6:39-44 | Jesus’ Authority; Kingdom banquet imagery | Jesus, the Twelve, the crowd | Allusion: Exodus 16 (manna); 2 Kings 4:42-44 (Elisha’s multiplied loaves); Psalm 23:2 (“green pastures”) | Medium-High. Messianic-banquet typology; must not be reduced to a bare miracle-story divorced from its covenant-provision background. |
| Mark 6:50 | Deity of Christ; Faith amid Fear | Jesus, the disciples | Allusion: Exodus 3:14 LXX (ἐγώ εἰμι); Isaiah 43:10,25; 51:12 (“I am he”) | Critical. See glossary “I am” entry; mandatory note preserving the divine self-naming echo. |
Chapter 7
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 7:6-7 | Universal Human Accountability | Pharisees, scribes | Direct quotation: Isaiah 29:13 (“this people honors me with their lips”) | Medium. Direct citation; render with citation-formula clarity (“as it is written”). |
| Mark 7:10 | Law versus Tradition | — | Direct quotation: Exodus 20:12 / Deuteronomy 5:16 (honor father/mother); Exodus 21:17 / Leviticus 20:9 (cursing parents) | Medium. |
| Mark 7:15-23 | Universal Human Accountability (sin’s inward origin) | Jesus, disciples | Thematic parallel: Romans 2:28-29 (true circumcision of the heart); Romans 7:14-23 (sin operating from within) | High. Direct doctrinal bridge to the Romans curriculum’s universal-sin doctrine; পাপ vocabulary must be identical across both curricula. |
Chapter 8
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 8:18 | The Messianic Secret; spiritual blindness | Disciples | Allusion: Jeremiah 5:21; Ezekiel 12:2 (repeating the Isaiah 6:9-10 motif) | Medium-High. |
| Mark 8:29 | Messianic Promise | Peter | Fulfillment target of 2 Samuel 7:12-16; Psalm 2; Isaiah 9:6-7; Daniel 7:13-14 | Critical. Peter’s confession parallels Romans 10:9’s confession structure; মচীহ/খ্ৰীষ্ট usage must be consistent with the naming convention in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md. |
| Mark 8:31 | The Necessity of the Cross | Jesus, the Son of Man | Fulfills Isaiah 53 (Suffering Servant); background echo Hosea 6:2 (“on the third day”); typological resonance Jonah 1:17 (three days) | Critical. First explicit passion prediction; δεῖ (divine necessity) must never be rendered as fate/karma. |
| Mark 8:36 | The Ransom for Many | Jesus, disciples | Direct thematic echo: Psalm 49:7-8 (“no man can ransom another… the ransom of a life is costly”) | Critical. Verbally anticipates Mark 10:45’s λύτρον; render প্ৰাণ (“life/soul”) consistently here and at 10:45 to preserve the intra-Gospel echo. |
Chapter 9
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 9:2-8 | Sonship of Christ; Deity of Christ | Jesus, Moses, Elijah, Peter/James/John | Allusion: Exodus 24:15-18; 34:29-35 (cloud, glory, Moses’ shining face) | High. Transfiguration typologically confirms Jesus as fulfillment of both Law (Moses) and Prophets (Elijah); parallels Mark 1:11. |
| Mark 9:7 | Sonship of Christ | The Father, Jesus | Allusion: Deuteronomy 18:15 (“listen to him,” the prophet like Moses) + Psalm 2:7 | Critical. Same divine-declaration formula as Mark 1:11; must stay lexically identical (মোৰ প্ৰিয় পুত্ৰ). |
| Mark 9:11-13 | Fulfillment of Prophecy | Elijah, John the Baptist | Direct reference: Malachi 4:5-6 | Medium. |
| Mark 9:48 | Judgment (Gehenna background) | — | Direct quotation: Isaiah 66:24 (“their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched”) | High. See glossary নৰক entry; distinguish from cyclical karma-proportioned hells. |
Chapter 10
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 10:6-8 | Creation order (marriage teaching) | Jesus, Pharisees | Direct quotation: Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:24 | Medium. Direct quotation; align with any existing Assamese OT Genesis rendering where available. |
| Mark 10:19 | Law | Jesus, the rich man | Direct quotation: Exodus 20:12-16 / Deuteronomy 5:16-20 (Decalogue selection) | Medium. |
| Mark 10:35-37 | Servanthood versus Worldly Greatness | James, John | Structural echo: Psalm 110:1 (“right hand”) — the same royal-enthronement psalm underlying Mark 12:36 and Mark 14:62 | High. See full treatment in 07_semantic_analysis.md; the “right/left” request is answered ironically at Mark 15:27. |
| Mark 10:38 | The Necessity of the Cross | Jesus | Allusion: Isaiah 51:17; Psalm 75:8; Jeremiah 25:15 (cup of divine wrath) | Critical. |
| Mark 10:45 | The Ransom for Many; Jesus as Suffering Servant | Jesus (Son of Man) | Direct thematic fulfillment: Isaiah 53:10-12 (the Servant “poured out his soul,” “bore the sin of many”) | CRITICAL — core passage, highest-priority item in this entire matrix. Not a verbatim LXX quotation but an unmistakable thematic quotation of Isaiah’s Servant Song. Parallels Romans 5:6-8 (Christ died for us) and Romans 3:24-25 (redemption through Christ’s blood). Romans baseline has no registered “redemption” term distinct from পৰিত্ৰাণ/অনুগ্ৰহ; flag for future cross-curriculum harmonization if a Romans “redemption” term is later formalized, so it does not collide with Mark’s উদ্ধাৰ-মূল্য. |
| Mark 10:47-48 | Messianic Promise; Davidic Covenant | Bartimaeus, Jesus | Fulfillment target: 2 Samuel 7:12-16 (Davidic covenant); Isaiah 11:1 (Davidic branch) | Critical. Parallels Romans’ “seed_of_david” (Romans 1:3) and “davidic_covenant” doctrine entries; requires an OT covenant-background note per baseline risk notes. |
Chapter 11
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 11:1-7 | Messianic Promise; Kingdom of God Breaking In | Jesus | Allusion: Zechariah 9:9 (the king comes on a donkey); Genesis 49:11 | High. Preserve the royal-yet-humble messianic paradox. |
| Mark 11:9-10 | The Messianic Secret | The crowd | Direct quotation: Psalm 118:25-26 | High. The crowd’s acclamation is real but only partially understood — consistent with the Messianic Secret’s pattern of progressive disclosure. |
| Mark 11:17 | Temple critique; kingdom purity | Jesus | Composite direct quotation: Isaiah 56:7 (“house of prayer”) + Jeremiah 7:11 (“den of robbers”) | Medium. Composite citation from two prophets; both sources should be identifiable in study notes. |
Chapter 12
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 12:1-9 | Fulfillment of Prophecy; rejection-vindication pattern | Tenants, the son, the vineyard owner | Allegorical typology: Isaiah 5:1-7 (vineyard song); vineyard = Israel | High. Allegory maps directly onto salvation history; the “son” (Mark 12:6) anticipates the passion narrative. |
| Mark 12:10-11 | The Necessity of the Cross | Jesus | Direct quotation: Psalm 118:22-23 (“the stone the builders rejected”) | High. Same psalm as Mark 11:9-10’s Hosanna citation — preserve textual linkage. |
| Mark 12:19 | Resurrection debate | Sadducees | Background: Deuteronomy 25:5 (levirate marriage law) | Low-Medium. |
| Mark 12:26 | Resurrection of Christ (doctrinal grounding) | Jesus | Direct quotation: Exodus 3:6 (“the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob”) | High. Grounds resurrection in God’s covenant character; reuse পুনৰুত্থান. |
| Mark 12:29-30 | Greatest commandment; exclusive devotion to one God | Jesus, a scribe | Direct quotation: Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (the Shema) | High. The Shema’s exclusive monotheism directly reinforces the baseline’s insistence that ঈশ্বৰ never be softened toward a chosen-deity (ista-devata) framework within a devotional-plurality worldview. |
| Mark 12:31 | Law summarized | Jesus | Direct quotation: Leviticus 19:18 (“love your neighbor as yourself”) | Medium. |
| Mark 12:36 | Deity of Christ; Lordship of Christ | Jesus, David | Direct quotation: Psalm 110:1 (“The Lord said to my Lord…”) | Critical. The same psalm structurally underlies Mark 10:37 and Mark 14:62; also cited in Romans-adjacent NT tradition (cf. Romans 8:34, “at the right hand of God”). Keep প্ৰভু consistent across all three Markan occurrences. |
Chapter 13
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 13:14 | Apocalyptic judgment | — | Direct allusion: Daniel 9:27; 11:31; 12:11 (“abomination of desolation”) | Critical. See glossary; distinguish from cyclical Hindu degeneration concepts (e.g., descent into Kali Yuga). |
| Mark 13:24-25 | Day-of-the-Lord judgment imagery | — | Direct quotation: Isaiah 13:10; 34:4; Joel 2:10,31 | Medium-High. Avoid conflating cosmic-collapse language with cyclical cosmic-dissolution (pralaya) concepts; add a distinguishing note where needed. |
| Mark 13:26 | The Messianic Secret unveiled; Jesus as Son of Man | Jesus | Direct quotation: Daniel 7:13-14 | Critical. The hidden authority first named at Mark 2:10 is here revealed as the coming glorious judge-king; keep মানুহৰ পুত্ৰ and মহিমা consistent. |
| Mark 13:31 | Authority of Christ’s word | Jesus | Allusion: Isaiah 40:8 (“the word of our God will stand forever”) | Medium. |
Chapter 14
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 14:24 | The Ransom for Many; The Necessity of the Cross | Jesus, the Twelve | Direct allusion: Exodus 24:8 (Mosaic covenant blood) + Isaiah 53:12 (“poured out… for many”) + Jeremiah 31:31-34 (new covenant) | Critical. Explicit verbal echo of Mark 10:45’s “for many” (πολλῶν); বহুতৰ সলনি / “for many” language must be identical between Mark 10:45 and Mark 14:24. |
| Mark 14:27 | The Necessity of the Cross | Jesus, the disciples | Direct quotation: Zechariah 13:7 (“I will strike the shepherd”) | High. |
| Mark 14:34 | Jesus as Suffering Servant (genuine anguish) | Jesus | Allusion: Psalm 42:5,11; 43:5 (“my soul is cast down”) | Medium. Render প্ৰাণ/soul-anguish without importing a detached philosophical “soul” concept. |
| Mark 14:36 | Servanthood versus Worldly Greatness (structural inversion of 10:35-37) | Jesus | Direct structural contrast with Mark 10:35’s θέλομεν; parallels Romans 8:15’s আব্বা পিতা | High. Where James/John said “we want” (θέλομεν), Jesus prays “not what I will” — the interpretive key to the whole servanthood theme. |
| Mark 14:62 | Deity of Christ; Son of Man | Jesus, the Sanhedrin | Direct combination: Daniel 7:13 + Psalm 110:1 | Critical. The blasphemy charge in Mark 14:63-64 depends on the hearers recognizing the combined divine weight of this citation. |
Chapter 15
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 15:24 | Jesus as Suffering Servant fulfilled | Roman soldiers | Direct fulfillment allusion: Psalm 22:18 (dividing garments, casting lots) | Medium. |
| Mark 15:29 | Suffering / mockery | Passersby | Allusion: Psalm 22:7 (“wagging their heads”) | Medium. |
| Mark 15:33 | Day-of-the-Lord judgment marking the crucifixion | — | Allusion: Amos 8:9 (darkness at noon) | Medium. |
| Mark 15:34 | The Necessity of the Cross | Jesus | Direct quotation: Psalm 22:1 (“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”) | Critical. Must be rendered as Jesus genuinely praying Scripture in extremity, not an improvised cry; parallels Romans 8:32 (“God did not spare his own Son”). |
| Mark 15:36 | Suffering Servant fulfilled | — | Allusion: Psalm 69:21 (sour wine offered) | Low-Medium. |
| Mark 15:38 | Access to God opened | — | Thematic echo: Exodus 26:31-33 (the veil separating the Holy of Holies) | Medium. Parallels Romans 5:1-2 (“access… into this grace”). |
| Mark 15:39 | Deity of Christ; Sonship of Christ | The Roman centurion | Climactic fulfillment of Mark 1:1, 1:11, 9:7 | Critical. Structural bookend of the whole Gospel; parallels Romans 1:4 (Son of God declared through resurrection). ঈশ্বৰৰ পুত্ৰ must match the baseline exactly. |
Chapter 16
| Mark Passage | Theme | Related Character(s) | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mark 16:6 | Resurrection fulfilled | The women, the angel | Fulfills Mark 8:31; 9:31; 10:34; typological echo Psalm 16:10 (as later cited in Acts 2:27) | Critical. পুনৰুত্থান must match its use in Romans exactly (Romans 1:4; 6:4; 8:11); NEVER পুনৰ্জন্ম. |
| Mark 16:7 | Faith and Discipleship amid Fear (restoration after failure) | Jesus, Peter, the disciples | Echoes Mark 14:28 | Medium. |
| Mark 16:8 | Faith and Discipleship amid Fear | The women | Thematic bookend with Mark 4:41; 6:50 | Medium-High. Preserve the Gospel’s deliberately unresolved, trembling ending; do not smooth into simple triumph. |
Parallels to the Romans Curriculum
The following table lists terms and passages where Mark’s usage must remain lexically and doctrinally consistent with the already-delivered Assamese Romans Language Package, since learners will move between both curricula.
| Shared Concept | Mark Occurrences | Romans Occurrences | Assamese Term (fixed) | Consistency Rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gospel | Mark 1:1,14-15; 8:35; 10:29; 13:10; 14:9; 16:15 | Romans 1:1,16; 10:15-16; 15:19-20 | সুসমাচাৰ | Identical in both curricula; High risk. |
| Son of God | Mark 1:1; 3:11; 5:7; 9:7; 15:39 | Romans 1:4; 8:3,29 | ঈশ্বৰৰ পুত্ৰ | Identical; Critical risk. Mark 15:39 and Romans 1:4 are the two strongest doctrinal anchor-points and must use the exact same phrase. |
| Lord (of Christ) | Mark 2:28; 12:36; 14:62 | Romans 10:9,12; 14:9 | প্ৰভু | Identical; Critical. Mark 10:9’s parallel confession logic (not a citation but conceptually the same salvation-confession pattern) must echo Romans 10:9’s phrasing style. |
| Resurrection | Mark 8:31; 9:9-10,31; 12:18-27; 16:6 | Romans 1:4; 4:25; 6:4-5; 8:11 | পুনৰুত্থান | Identical; Critical; NEVER পুনৰ্জন্ম in either curriculum. |
| Faith | Mark 2:5; 4:40; 5:34,36; 9:23-24; 10:52; 11:22-24 | Romans 1:17; 3:22-28; 4:1-25; 10:9-10,17 | বিশ্বাস | Identical; High. Habakkuk 2:4 underlies both Mark 5:34 (thematically) and Romans 1:17 (directly quoted) — translators should be aware of this shared OT root even though Mark does not quote it directly. |
| Salvation / save | Mark 8:35; 10:26; 13:13,20 (spiritual sense); Mark 5:34; 10:52 (dual sense) | Romans 1:16; 10:1,10; 11:11; 13:11 | পৰিত্ৰাণ | Identical; Critical; NEVER মুক্তি/মোক্ষ in either curriculum. |
| Abba, Father | Mark 14:36 | Romans 8:15 | আব্বা / পিতা | Identical; retain Aramaic transliteration in both. |
| Ransom / Redemption | Mark 10:45 (λύτρον, ἀντὶ πολλῶν) | Romans 3:24 (implicit “redemption” concept within অনুগ্ৰহ/ধাৰ্মিক বুলি গণ্য কৰা discussion; no dedicated Romans glossary term) | Mark: উদ্ধাৰ-মূল্য / বহুতৰ সলনি | Flag for cross-curriculum harmonization. Romans baseline has no standalone “redemption” glossary entry; if one is added in a future Romans revision, it must be checked against Mark’s উদ্ধাৰ-মূল্য to avoid the same মুক্তি/mokṣa collision documented in 08_core_glossary.md. |
| Sin | Mark 1:4-5; 2:5-10; 3:28-29; 7:15-23 | Romans 1:18-3:20; 3:23; 5:12-21 | পাপ | Identical; High. |
| Kingdom of God | Mark 1:15; 4:11; 9:1,47; 10:14-15,23-25; 12:34; 14:25 | Romans 14:17 | ঈশ্বৰৰ ৰাজ্য | Identical; Medium. |
| Messiah/Christ | Mark 1:1; 8:29; 9:41; 12:35; 13:21; 14:61; 15:32 | Romans 9:5; 10:6-7 (Christ passages throughout) | মচীহ / খ্ৰীষ্ট | Identical naming convention per 12_ai_translation_requirements.md. |
| Holy Spirit | Mark 1:8,10,12; 3:29; 12:36; 13:11 | Romans 5:5; 8:1-27 | পবিত্ৰ আত্মা | Identical; Critical. |
| Glory | Mark 8:38; 10:37; 13:26 | Romans 3:23; 5:2; 8:18,21,30; 9:23 | মহিমা | Identical; High. |
| David / Son of David / Seed of David | Mark 2:25; 10:47-48; 11:10; 12:35-37 | Romans 1:3 (seed_of_david) | দায়ূদ / দায়ূদৰ পুত্ৰ / দায়ূদৰ বংশৰ | Related but distinct forms — do not merge; both must carry an OT-covenant-background note per baseline “davidic_covenant” risk entry. |
| ”Jesus is Lord” confession pattern | Mark 8:29 (Peter); Mark 10:9 is a Romans-only reference — cf. Mark 15:39 (centurion) | Romans 10:9-10 | যীচু প্ৰভু হয় (fixed Romans phrasing) | The Romans 10:9 phrasing must remain verbatim; Mark’s confession moments (8:29; 15:39) are distinct events with distinct wording (Christ-confession vs. Son-of-God confession) and must not be flattened into the Romans 10:9 formula. |
Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations
- Psalm 110:1 appears structurally behind Mark 10:37, Mark 12:36, and Mark 14:62. All three occurrences must use প্ৰভু for both “the LORD” and “my Lord” distinctly if the Assamese OT tradition already distinguishes YHWH-address from adonai-address; if no such distinction exists in current Assamese OT usage, footnote the double referent once at Mark 12:36 (its fullest citation) and cross-reference from the other two.
- Isaiah 53 (Suffering Servant) underlies Mark 10:45, Mark 14:24, and (typologically) Mark 8:31. The Assamese rendering of “poured out his soul/life” and “for many” must be worded identically at Mark 10:45 and Mark 14:24, since Mark deliberately repeats the same phrase (πολλῶν) at both points.
- Isaiah 6:9-10 underlies both Mark 4:12 and Mark 8:18 (via Jeremiah 5:21/Ezekiel 12:2). Use the same Assamese idiom for “seeing but not perceiving” at both occurrences so the reader recognizes the repeated motif.
- Daniel 7:13-14 underlies Mark 8:38, Mark 13:26, and Mark 14:62. মানুহৰ পুত্ৰ + মহিমা (or এন্ধাৰ মেঘৰে অহা, “coming with clouds,” where the phrase occurs) must be rendered identically at all three points.
- Genesis 1:27 / Genesis 2:24 (Mark 10:6-8) and any other verbatim OT quotations must be checked against the existing Assamese Bible Society Old Testament translation (where available) rather than translated independently from Greek/English, to preserve reader recognition of the quotation as Scripture they may already know.
- Any citation shared between this Mark package and the Romans baseline package (see table above) must use the Romans baseline rendering exactly; Mark-specific context notes may be added, but the core term itself is never re-translated independently.
- Composite citations (Mark 1:2-3; Mark 11:17) must be flagged in translator notes as combining two source texts, so that back-translation review does not mistake the combination for a single-source error.
This document extends 07_semantic_analysis.md and 08_core_glossary.md and is a required load file for Phase 2 segments containing Scripture quotations, allusions, or Romans-parallel vocabulary.
