|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pentecost | Πεντηκοστή (Pentēkostē) | পেন্তিকোষ্ট (গ্লস: পঞ্চাশৎ পৰ্ব) | Medium | Jewish pilgrim feast background; avoid conflation with Assamese harvest festivals (Bihu) |
| Filled with the Holy Spirit | ἐπλήσθησαν πνεύματος ἁγίου | পবিত্ৰ আত্মাৰে পূৰ্ণ হ’ল | High | Must be distinguished from deodhani/tribal spirit-possession trance; produces intelligible, Christ-centered speech, not loss of self-control |
| Tongues (other languages) | ἑτέραις γλώσσαις | অন্য ভাষা | High | Real, known human languages at Pentecost, not unintelligible ecstatic utterance; distinguish from folk-oracular trance speech |
| Poured out (the Spirit) | ἐκχέω | বাকি দিয়া | Medium | Pair with পবিত্ৰ আত্মা to anchor to a personal God’s own act, not impersonal shakti-energy diffusion |
| Gift of the Holy Spirit | δωρεὰ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος | পবিত্ৰ আত্মাৰ দান | High | Freely given, never purchasable (cf. Simon Magus, Acts 8:20); reinforces grace/merit contrast |

Notes for Phase 2 Handoff
- All Section A terms are locked exactly as recorded in the baseline
translation_memory.json; no Phase 2 worker may substitute alternatives. - All Section B terms are proposed additions and require theologian review before being written into
translation_memory.jsonfor any Critical or High risk entry (see risk tiers above), per the escalation rules in12_ai_translation_requirements.md. - Terms flagged High/Critical due to Ekasarana Dharma, Assamese Hindu/Shakta, or Assamese Muslim cultural-collision risk require a first-occurrence translator note in every Phase 2 document, following the same pattern established for দেহধাৰণ/অৱতাৰ in the baseline.
- This glossary must be merged into an updated
translation_memory.json(version increment) andbible_term_registry.jsonas part of the next Phase 1 step (doctrine risk registry construction for Acts).

NEW FORBIDDEN SUBSTITUTION FOR ACTS: never পবিত্ৰ শক্তি (a documented Jehovah’s Witness/Watchtower pattern that renders the Spirit as an impersonal force rather than a personal divine Person, denying full personhood).

Rejected alternatives: সাধাৰণ মানুহ (mere human being)
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
Category: Christology
Acts 7:56 (Stephen’s vision). Danielic (Daniel 7:13-14) title of divine authority and coming judgment; must not be flattened to mean merely ‘a human being,’ nor conflated with a periodically-descending avatar-being. Mandatory translator note.

Approved rendering: বিশ্বাস
Transliteration: biswax
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: শ্ৰদ্ধা, ভক্তি

Original: ἐπλήσθησαν πνεύματος ἁγίου
Category: Pneumatology
Acts 2:4; 4:8,31; 9:17; 13:9,52. Must be clearly distinguished from Assamese Shakta deodhani spirit-possession trance (Kamakhya and other shrines), where a medium’s self-control is suspended involuntarily. Spirit-filling in Acts produces intelligible, self-possessed, Christ-centered proclamation, not trance loss of self. Mandatory first-occurrence translator note.

Doctrine: Occult Confrontation and Spiritual Authority
Rejected alternatives: দেওধনী আত্মা (deodhani spirit-medium framing)
Original: πνεῦμα πύθωνα
Category: Occult
Acts 16:16-18 (πνεῦμα πύθωνα). Direct collision risk with deodhani trance-mediums and village ওজা-গণক practices; exposed in the text as an illegitimate occult power subordinate to and expelled by Christ’s authority, not a valid channel of divine insight.
Sorcery Magician
Approved rendering: মায়াবী / যাদুকৰ
Transliteration: mayabi / jadukôr
Doctrine: Occult Confrontation and Spiritual Authority
Rejected alternatives: ওজা (avoided as glossary term to prevent blanket condemnation of the whole rural folk-healer/exorcist category)
Original: μαγεία / μάγος
Category: Occult
Acts 8:9-11; 13:6-11 (Simon of Samaria, Bar-Jesus/Elymas). Frame as the text’s specific illegitimate occult figures, contrasted with the Spirit’s genuine God-given power, never as a blanket verdict on Assam’s rural ওজা and tantra-mantra practice as a whole.

Category: Ecclesiology
Acts 10:14-15,28; 11:8-9. Frame strictly as the OT ceremonial-law category opening Jew-Gentile table fellowship; must not collide unexamined with Hindu caste-linked food-purity codes (jaat-paat) — the text’s real target is the Jew-Gentile boundary.
The Way
Approved rendering: পথ (সেই পথ)
Transliteration: poth (xei poth)
Doctrine: The Church as Community
Rejected alternatives: মাৰ্গ (marga, unqualified path-pluralism term)
Original: ἡ ὁδός
Category: Ecclesiology
Acts 9:2; 19:9,23; 22:4; 24:14,22. Risk of conflation with the Hindu marga concept (one valid spiritual path among several) and Ekasarana’s own naam-dharma path-language; render/gloss with definite-article emphasis as the singular way inaugurated in Christ, not one path among many.
Sect
Approved rendering: সম্প্ৰদায়
Transliteration: somproday
Doctrine: The Church as Community
Original: αἵρεσις
Category: Ecclesiology
Acts 24:5,14; 28:22 (αἵρεσις — outsiders’ hostile label for the Way). Ekasarana Dharma self-identifies as a sampradaya; using সম্প্ৰদায় for this outsider label requires a mandatory translator note at every occurrence clarifying that the Way is not self-understood as one sampradaya among many, but as the fulfillment of God’s singular saving purpose.

Must be sharply distinguished from repeatable Hindu/Assamese ritual purification bathing (Brahmaputra dips, Bihu ritual bathing, Kamakhya purification rites). A single, unrepeatable act of faith-obedience marking identification with Christ’s death and resurrection. Occurs at unusually high frequency in Acts compared to Romans; extra vigilance required.
Forgiveness Of Sins
Approved rendering: পাপ ক্ষমা
Transliteration: pap khôma
Doctrine: Forgiveness of Sins
Rejected alternatives: পাপ-নাশ (karma-erasure phrasing)
Original: ἄφεσις τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν / ἐξαλείφω
Category: Repentance and Baptism
Acts 2:38; 3:19; 5:31; 10:43; 13:38; 26:18. A legal pardon granted once by a personal God on the basis of Christ’s finished work, not karma-erasure through pilgrimage, ritual, or austerity.

Doctrine: Apostolic Authority and Miracles
Rejected alternatives: মন্ত্ৰ-নিচিনা নাম-উচ্চাৰণ (mantra-like Name-utterance framing)

Category: Repentance and Baptism
Acts 2:38; 3:6,16; 4:10,30; 16:18. Invokes Christ’s actual authority and identity, not a repeatable mantra-like Name-invocation (contrast with Sons of Sceva’s failed exorcism-for-hire, Acts 19:13-16).

Transliteration: twôkôcched
Doctrine: Circumcision and the Gentiles
Rejected alternatives: সুন্নত
Original: περιτομή
Category: Justification and Law

Original: ἀνελήμφθη
Category: Christology
Acts 1:9-11. A unique, historical, bodily, permanent departure with a promised (not cyclical) bodily return — not analogous to a deity’s periodic mythic return to a celestial abode after a temporary avatar-episode. Doctrine-level risk (Ascension of Christ) is Critical per doctrine_risk_registry.json; mandatory first-occurrence translator note required, echoing the baseline’s দেহধাৰণ/অৱতাৰ caution.
