Core Glossary
Core Glossary — 2 John (English → Assamese)
This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md across the entire book of 2 John (its single chapter, all 13 verses). Terms already fixed in the baseline Romans translation_memory.json are marked [baseline reuse] and MUST be used exactly as recorded there — no alternative renderings are permitted. New terms are marked [NEW] and are proposed here as candidates for formal addition to translation memory prior to Phase 2 segment translation.
Section A — Baseline Terms Reused (No Deviation Permitted)
| Term (English) | Original (Greek) | Assamese | Transliteration | Risk | Doctrine | Verse(s) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| grace | χάρις | অনুগ্ৰহ | anugrôh | High | Grace | 1:3 |
| peace | εἰρήνη | শান্তি | xanti | Medium | Peace with God | 1:3 |
| Father | πατήρ | পিতা | pita | Critical | Adoption / God the Father | 1:3, 1:4, 1:9 |

Note: “Son of God” (ঈশ্বৰৰ পুত্ৰ) is not quoted verbatim in 2 John, but the doctrinally identical phrase “Son of the Father” (1:3) must be held to the same Critical-risk standard — see Section B.
Section B — New Terms Proposed for This Curriculum
| Term (English) | Original (Greek) / Transliteration | Assamese | Transliteration | Doctrine Risk | Doctrine | Alternatives Rejected | Notes | Verse(s) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| truth | ἀλήθεια / alētheia | সত্য | xotyô | High | Walking in Truth and Love | — | Must be anchored to personal, Christ-revealed truth in every occurrence, not the impersonal cosmic Satya of Hindu philosophical usage (Satya Yuga, Satyagraha). | 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4 |
| love | ἀγάπη / agapē | প্ৰেম | prem | High | Walking in Truth and Love | মৰম (too weak/familial) | Ordinary Assamese usage strongly connotes romantic love; every occurrence must be anchored to the covenant, self-giving, obedience-linked sense the passage defines. | 1:1, 1:3, 1:5, 1:6 |
| mercy | ἔλεος / eleos | কৃপা | kripa | Medium | Grace (paired term) | — | Activates the baseline grace entry’s carve-out permitting কৃপা for “ordinary compassion/mercy in non-salvific contexts”; must remain distinct from অনুগ্ৰহ (grace). | 1:3 |
| elder | πρεσβύτερος / presbyteros | প্ৰাচীন | prachin | Medium | Apostleship (adjacent office) | গুৰু (rejected — Satradhikar guru-lineage collision) | Same logic as baseline’s apostle entry: avoid গুৰু to prevent collapsing this pastoral office into the Ekasarana guru-successor institution. | 1:1 |
| elect / chosen | ἐκλεκτός / eklektos | মনোনীত | monônit | Medium | Effectual Calling / Election (adjacent) | — | Shares root with baseline’s ঈশ্বৰৰ মনোনয়ন (election); here functions primarily as honorific address, but theological resonance should not be erased. | 1:1, 1:13 |
| lady (address) | κυρία / kyria | সম্মানীয়া মহিলা | xommanniya môhila | Medium | (address only; ambiguity re: individual vs. congregation) | — | Must be sharply distinguished from প্ৰভু (Critical, reserved for exclusive divine Lordship) despite the shared Greek root. Translator note required at first use. | 1:1, 1:5 |
| children | τέκνα / tekna | সন্তান | xôntan | Low | (background: Adoption) | — | Standard term; low doctrinal risk here. | 1:1, 1:4, 1:13 |
| sister | ἀδελφή / adelphē | ভনী | bhôni | Low | Christian Fellowship (adjacent) | — | Standard term. | 1:13 |
| commandment | ἐντολή / entolē | আজ্ঞা | agya | Medium-High | Walking in Truth and Love / Perseverance | নিয়ম (rule — too legalistic), কৰ্তব্য (duty — caste-duty overtone) | Shares root with baseline’s বিশ্বাসৰ আজ্ঞাকাৰিতা; obedience flowing from love/relationship, not ritual rule-keeping. | 1:4, 1:5, 1:6 |
| walk (conduct) | περιπατέω / peripateō | চলা | chola | Medium | Walking in Truth and Love | — | Metaphor for lifestyle/conduct; must not be read as literal walking, pilgrimage, or ritual circumambulation. | 1:4, 1:6 |
| world | κόσμος / kosmos | জগৎ | jagôt | Medium | Warning against Deceivers | সংসাৰ (rejected — cyclical rebirth-order concept) | Denotes the created/human sphere; must be kept distinct from সংসাৰ per baseline’s salvation-entry caution. | 1:7 |
| deceiver(s) | πλάνος / πλάνοι / planos / planoi | প্ৰৱঞ্চক(সকল) | prôbôncôk(-hôkôl) | High | Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation | — | Active, culpable spreader of doctrinal falsehood, not a merely mistaken person. | 1:7 |
| confess / acknowledge | ὁμολογέω / homologeō | স্বীকাৰ কৰা | xikar kôra | Critical | Warning against Deceivers / Incarnation | — | Structurally parallel to baseline’s Romans 10:9 Lordship-confession rule; the doctrinal hinge of the letter. Never render as private/optional opinion. | 1:7 |
| flesh | σάρξ / sarx | মাংস | mangxô | High | Incarnation (supporting term) | — | Real, physical, permanent human nature — not an illusory/temporary avatar-body. | 1:7 |
| Jesus Christ coming in the flesh | Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ἐρχόμενον ἐν σαρκί | যীচু খ্ৰীষ্টই মাংসত দেহধাৰণ কৰি আহিল | Yisu Khristôi mangxôt dehôdharon kôri ahil | CRITICAL | Incarnation | অৱতাৰ-implying phrasing (absolutely forbidden per baseline) | Combines NEW মাংস with baseline’s established দেহধাৰণ (Critical). MANDATORY translator note at every occurrence per baseline incarnation rule, distinguishing unique/permanent incarnation from repeatable avatar-descent. Single highest-risk phrase in this curriculum. | 1:7 |
| antichrist | ἀντίχριστος / antichristos | আন্তিখ্ৰীষ্ট | antikhristô | Critical | Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation | খ্ৰীষ্টৰ বিৰোধী (descriptive alternative, held in reserve) | Proposed transliteration parallels established মচীহ (Messiah). MUST be confirmed against established Assamese Bible Society usage in 1 John 2:18/22, 4:3 before Phase 2 lock-in, for cross-book consistency. | 1:7 |
| goes ahead / goes beyond (doctrinal transgression) | προάγω / proagō | সীমা অতিক্ৰম কৰি আগবাঢ়ি যায় | xima ôtikrôm kôri agôbaṭhi jai | High | Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ | — | Must convey doctrinal departure/error, not commendable spiritual progress — risk of positive misreading. | 1:9 |
| abide / remain | μένω / menō | থাকি থকা | thaki thôka | High | Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ | — | Key perseverance-vocabulary; render consistently at 1:2 and 1:9 throughout the whole curriculum. | 1:2, 1:9 |
| teaching of Christ | διδαχὴ τοῦ Χριστοῦ / didachē tou Christou | খ্ৰীষ্টৰ শিক্ষা | Khristôr xikya | High | Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ | — | Fixed apostolic doctrine, not an evolving Satradhikar guru-teaching lineage. | 1:9 |
| full reward | μισθὸν πλήρη / misthon plērē | সম্পূর্ণ পুৰস্কাৰ | xômpurnô puroskar | Medium-High | Perseverance / Grace (adjacent) | — | Eschatological reward for Spirit-enabled perseverance, not a mechanically earned karma-phal outcome. | 1:8 |
| receive into the house | λαμβάνειν εἰς οἰκίαν / lambanein eis oikian | ঘৰত গ্ৰহণ কৰা | ghôrôt grôhôn kôra | High | Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment | — | MAJOR CULTURAL COLLISION: conflicts with the widely known hospitality ethic atithi devo bhava (“the guest is like a god”). Translator/teacher note required distinguishing ordinary hospitality from formally housing a doctrinally disqualified traveling teacher. | 1:10 |
| give greeting / say “rejoice” | χαίρειν λέγειν / chairein legein | মংগলবাদ জ্ঞাপন কৰা | môngôlôbad gyapôn kôra | Medium | Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment | নমস্কাৰ কৰা (rejected — reverential/devotional greeting gesture connotation) | Formal verbal blessing/endorsement withheld, not a devotional greeting gesture. | 1:10 |
| shares / participates (in evil) | κοινωνεῖ / koinōnei | সহভাগী হয় | xôhobhagi hôy | High | Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment | — | Verb form of baseline’s সহভাগিতা (fellowship, ordinarily Low risk/positive); here used negatively of moral participation in another’s evil deeds — preserve the register shift. | 1:11 |
| evil works | ἔργα πονηρά / erga ponēra | মন্দ কাৰ্য | môndô karyô | Medium | Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment | — | Doctrinal deception is itself named a moral evil, not merely an intellectual error. | 1:11 |
| forever / eternity | αἰών / aiōn | অনন্তকাল | ônôntôkal | Medium | Walking in Truth and Love (permanence of truth) | — | Linear unending permanence, not a repeating cosmic cycle (kalachakra/yuga framework). | 1:2 |
| Son of the Father | υἱὸς τοῦ πατρός / huios tou patros | পিতৃৰ পুত্ৰ | Pitror putrô | Critical | Sonship of Christ / Deity of Christ | — | Doctrinally identical in weight to baseline’s ঈশ্বৰৰ পুত্ৰ (Son of God, Critical); eternal, unique, co-equal Sonship — never metaphorical or adoptive. Cross-reference baseline son_of_god entry in all Phase 2 notes. | 1:3 |
| ”the truth in us” / abiding truth | ἀλήθεια + μένουσα (compound) | আমাত থাকি থকা সত্য | amat thaki thôka xotyô | High | Walking in Truth and Love | — | Compound of two High-risk NEW terms (truth + abide); ensure both individual entries are enforced consistently when combined. | 1:2 |
| mouth to mouth (idiom) | στόμα πρὸς στόμα / stoma pros stoma | মুখামুখি | mukhamukhi | Low | (no major doctrine; idiom handling) | মুখে মুখে (literal, rejected as unnatural) | Standard idiom-handling: render natural Assamese equivalent (“face to face”), not the literal image. | 1:12 |
Section C — Risk Summary for This Curriculum
| Risk Tier | Count (New Terms) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 4 (Jesus Christ coming in the flesh / দেহধাৰণ+মাংস compound; antichrist; confess/acknowledge; Son of the Father) | Human theologian — mandatory, every occurrence |
| High | 11 (truth, love, deceiver(s), flesh, goes beyond, abide/remain, teaching of Christ, receive into house, shares/participates, “truth abiding in us” compound, commandment [upper band]) | Human theologian |
| Medium | 9 (mercy, elder, elect/chosen, lady, commandment [lower band], walk, world, full reward, give greeting, evil works, forever) | Native speaker review |
| Low | 4 (children, sister, mouth-to-mouth idiom, greets-you closing) | Automated review |
Section D — Required Translator Notes for Phase 2 (Carried Forward from Baseline Pattern)
- At first occurrence of “Jesus Christ coming in the flesh” (1:7): mandatory note distinguishing the unique, permanent, historical incarnation (দেহধাৰণ) from Ekasarana Dharma’s repeatable avatar-descent pattern — per baseline’s incarnation rule, extended here because this verse makes denial of exactly this point the defining mark of “the deceiver and the antichrist.”
- At first occurrence of “antichrist” (1:7): flag for confirmation against established Assamese Bible Society usage elsewhere in the Johannine epistles (1 John 2:18, 2:22, 4:3) before final lock-in of আন্তিখ্ৰীষ্ট.
- At “lady” (κυρία, 1:1, 1:5): note the scholarly ambiguity (individual woman vs. allegorical address to a congregation) and confirm the Assamese honorific does not create unintended gender-specific doctrinal claims.
- At “receive into the house” (1:10): mandatory cultural-bridge note distinguishing ordinary Assamese hospitality obligation (atithi devo bhava) from the specific, narrow case of formally housing a doctrinally disqualified traveling teacher.
- At “abide/remain” (μένω, 1:2 and 1:9): confirm থাকি থকা is used identically at both occurrences and will be reused identically in any future Johannine-epistle curricula for consistency.
- At “love” (ἀγάπη, throughout): confirm প্ৰেম is anchored contextually against its romantic-love connotation in ordinary Assamese usage before publication.
This glossary must be merged into translation_memory.json as new entries (version increment required) before Phase 2 segment translation of 2 John begins, per the Translation Memory Load and Enforcement Instructions in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.
Critical Risk Terms
Father
Approved rendering: পিতা
Transliteration: pita
Doctrine: Fatherhood of God
Rejected alternatives: ব্ৰহ্মা, সৃষ্টিকৰ্তা
Original: πατήρ
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 2 John 1:3, 1:4, 1:9. Must remain the personal, relational Father of the one true ঈশ্বৰ; never rendered with or conflated with a Hindu creator-deity name (e.g. ব্ৰহ্মা).
God
Approved rendering: ঈশ্বৰ
Transliteration: Iswôr
Doctrine: Deity of Christ / Deity and Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ভগৱান, পৰমেশ্বৰ
Original: θεός
Category: God
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 2 John 1:3, 1:9 (‘does not have God’). ভগৱান remains rejected as the common devotional address for a chosen deity (ista-devata) within Ekasarana bhakti.
Jesus
Approved rendering: যীচু
Transliteration: Yisu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ / Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: ঈছা
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology
Inherited from Romans package. Occurs at 2 John 1:3, 1:7. Established ABS form since the 1819 Serampore Assamese New Testament.
Son Of God
Approved rendering: ঈশ্বৰৰ পুত্ৰ
Transliteration: Iswôror putrô
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ঈশ্বৰৰ অংশ, দেৱপুৰুষ
Inherited from Romans package. Not quoted verbatim in 2 John, but the doctrinally identical phrase ‘Son of the Father’ (2 John 1:3, see son_of_the_father entry below) must be held to this exact Critical standard: eternal, unique, co-equal Sonship, never metaphorical or adoptive.
Incarnation
Approved rendering: দেহধাৰণ
Transliteration: dehôdharon
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: অৱতাৰ, প্ৰকাশ
Inherited from Romans package. Core term for 2 John 1:7, the letter’s central doctrinal hinge. Never অৱতাৰ. Mandatory translator note at every occurrence in this letter (not merely first use) distinguishing the unique, permanent, historical incarnation from Ekasarana Dharma’s repeatable avatar-descent pattern, because 1:7 makes denial of exactly this point the defining mark of ‘the deceiver and the antichrist.‘
Lord
Approved rendering: প্ৰভু
Transliteration: prôbhu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: স্বামী, ঈশ্বৰ
Inherited from Romans package. Not directly quoted in 2 John’s text but critical as a contrast term: must be sharply distinguished from the new address-term সম্মানীয়া মহিলা (‘lady’, κυρία, 1:1/1:5) despite the shared Greek root κύριος/κυρία. Never let the ordinary honorific address bleed into or be confused with exclusive divine Lordship.
Messiah
Approved rendering: মচীহ
Transliteration: mosih
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: অভিষিক্ত ব্যক্তি, অৱতাৰ পুৰুষ
Inherited from Romans package. Not directly used in 2 John’s text but establishes the transliteration pattern that governs the new terms খ্ৰীষ্ট (Christ) and আন্তিখ্ৰীষ্ট (antichrist) below; all three transliterated proper titles must remain mutually consistent and never assimilated to Ekasarana Dharma founder-veneration patterns.
Confess
Approved rendering: স্বীকাৰ কৰা
Transliteration: xikar kôra
Doctrine: Confession of Christ’s Incarnation as the Doctrinal Test
Original: ὁμολογέω
Category: Christology
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:7. Structurally parallel to the baseline’s Romans 10:9 Lordship-confession rule (যীচু প্ৰভু হয়). Must retain full declarative, public-acknowledgment force at every occurrence; never softened to private opinion, personal feeling, or optional belief.
Incarnation In Flesh
Approved rendering: যীচু খ্ৰীষ্টই মাংসত দেহধাৰণ কৰি আহিল
Transliteration: Yisu Khristôi mangxôt dehôdharon kôri ahil
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: অৱতাৰ-adjacent phrasing (e.g. অৱতৰিত হৈ আহিল)
Original: Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ἐρχόμενον ἐν σαρκί
Category: Christology
NEW for this curriculum. The letter’s central incarnation statement (2 John 1:7). Combines the new term মাংস with the baseline’s established, Critical-risk দেহধাৰণ. The single highest syncretism-risk phrase in this curriculum: Ekasarana Dharma theology is built on Krishna as Vishnu’s supreme avatar descending repeatedly to restore dharma. MANDATORY translator note at EVERY occurrence (not just first use), because 1:7 makes denial of exactly this point the defining mark of ‘the deceiver and the antichrist.’ Absolutely forbidden: any অৱতাৰ-adjacent phrasing, observed in some non-mainstream Assamese evangelistic tracts and explicitly rejected in analysis/05_translation_landscape.md.
Antichrist
Approved rendering: আন্তিখ্ৰীষ্ট
Transliteration: antikhristô
Doctrine: Antichrist and False Teachers
Rejected alternatives: খ্ৰীষ্টৰ বিৰোধী
Original: ἀντίχριστος
Category: Christology
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:7. Proposed transliteration parallel to established মচীহ (Messiah) and খ্ৰীষ্ট (Christ). PENDING CONFIRMATION against established Assamese Bible Society usage in 1 John 2:18, 2:22, and 4:3 before final Phase 2 lock-in, for cross-book consistency within the Johannine epistles. Must never be softened to a generic ‘enemy’ or ‘opponent,’ which would lose the specific eschatological/christological title.
Son Of The Father
Approved rendering: পিতৃৰ পুত্ৰ
Transliteration: Pitror putrô
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Original: υἱὸς τοῦ πατρός
Category: Christology
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:3. Doctrinally identical in weight to the baseline’s Critical ঈশ্বৰৰ পুত্ৰ (Son of God). Must convey eternal, unique, co-equal Sonship — never metaphorical, adoptive, or honorary, and never assimilated to a devotee being addressed as a ‘child’ of a chosen deity within Ekasarana bhakti. Reject any subordinationist softening (observed in Watchtower/Jehovah’s Witnesses Assamese materials per analysis/05_translation_landscape.md). Cross-reference the baseline son_of_god entry in every Phase 2 translator note for this phrase.
Christ
Approved rendering: খ্ৰীষ্ট
Transliteration: Khristô
Doctrine: Deity and Sonship of Christ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology
NEW for this curriculum (not present as a standalone entry in the baseline Romans package, which uses মচীহ for the Messiah concept). Established Assamese Bible-translation transliteration, distinct from মচীহ but doctrinally aligned as naming the same person. Occurs throughout 2 John (Jesus Christ, the teaching of Christ, antichrist). Must never be assimilated to a guru-successor, avatar, or reformer figure within Ekasarana Dharma.
High Risk Terms
Grace
Approved rendering: অনুগ্ৰহ
Transliteration: anugrôh
Doctrine: Grace / Trinitarian Greeting (2 John 1:3)
Rejected alternatives: ভাল খবৰ, কৃপা, দয়া, বৰ, সৌভাগ্য, পুণ্য
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. In 2 John 1:3 forms the first of the greeting triad (grace, mercy, peace) from the Father and the Son; must remain lexically distinct from কৃপা (mercy, 1:3) so the greeting’s three distinct gifts are preserved and the grace-versus-merit/boon (বৰ) distinction is not blurred.
Election
Approved rendering: ঈশ্বৰৰ মনোনয়ন
Transliteration: Iswôror monônoyon
Doctrine: Effectual Calling / Election and Chosen Status
Rejected alternatives: ভাগ্য, নিয়তি, কপাল
Inherited from Romans package. Shares its root with the new address-term মনোনীত (‘elect’, 2 John 1:1, 1:13; see elect entry below). God’s sovereign personal choice, not fate or karma-determined destiny.
Truth
Approved rendering: সত্য
Transliteration: xotyô
Doctrine: Walking in Truth
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Faith
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4. সত্য in ordinary Assamese Hindu philosophical usage can denote an impersonal cosmic principle (Satya Yuga, Satyagraha, Vedantic ultimate reality). Every occurrence must be anchored to the letter’s personal, relational, Christ-revealed sense, not an abstract moral-cosmic order. Translator note recommended at first occurrence (1:1).
Love
Approved rendering: প্ৰেম
Transliteration: prem
Doctrine: Walking in Love
Rejected alternatives: মৰম
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Christian Love
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:1, 1:3, 1:5, 1:6. Ordinary Assamese usage strongly connotes romantic love (cf. প্ৰেম কাহিনী, ‘love story’). Every occurrence must be anchored to the letter’s own definition given at 1:6 — love as active obedience to Christ’s commandments — never left to stand alone as sentiment. মৰম rejected as too weak/familial. Mandatory contextual anchor note at first occurrence.
Commandment
Approved rendering: আজ্ঞা
Transliteration: agya
Doctrine: God’s Commandment of Love
Rejected alternatives: নিয়ম, কৰ্তব্য
Original: ἐντολή
Category: Faith
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:4, 1:5, 1:6. Shares its root with the baseline’s established বিশ্বাসৰ আজ্ঞাকাৰিতা (‘obedience of faith’). Must not carry নিয়ম’s ritual-rule overtone or কৰ্তব্য’s caste-duty overtone; obedience flowing from love/relationship, received ‘from the beginning’ of apostolic teaching, not duty-based compliance that earns standing.
Deceivers
Approved rendering: প্ৰৱঞ্চক
Transliteration: prôbôncôk
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Original: πλάνοι
Category: Christology
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:7. Must convey active, culpable spreading of doctrinal falsehood regarding Christ’s incarnation, not merely mistaken belief. Names the concrete threat behind the hospitality warning at 1:10-11.
Flesh
Approved rendering: মাংস
Transliteration: mangxô
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Original: σάρξ
Category: Christology
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:7. Real, physical, permanent human nature genuinely assumed by the eternal Son. Must not be read through a Puranic lens in which an avatar’s body is a temporary, illusory (māyā) manifestation.
Goes Beyond
Approved rendering: সীমা অতিক্ৰম কৰি আগবাঢ়ি যায়
Transliteration: xima ôtikrôm kôri agôbaṭhi jai
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Rejected alternatives: নতুন শিক্ষা বিচাৰি ফুৰে (neutral ‘seeks new teaching’ framing)
Original: προάγων
Category: Faith
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:9. Must convey doctrinal departure/error, not commendable spiritual progress. Particular care required because Assamese religious culture readily honors ongoing revelation through a living guru’s evolving instruction (Satradhikar lineage); this phrase must never be misread as spiritual advancement.
Abide
Approved rendering: থাকি থকা
Transliteration: thaki thôka
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Original: μένω
Category: Faith
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:2 (truth abiding in us) and 1:9 (abiding in the teaching of Christ). Must be rendered IDENTICALLY at both occurrences and reused identically in any future Johannine-epistle curricula for lexical consistency. Defining mark distinguishing the genuine believer from the one who ‘goes beyond.‘
Teaching Of Christ
Approved rendering: খ্ৰীষ্টৰ শিক্ষা
Transliteration: Khristôr xikya
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Rejected alternatives: গুৰু-পৰম্পৰা (guru-lineage teaching framing)
Original: διδαχὴ τοῦ Χριστοῦ
Category: Christology
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:9. Fixed, complete apostolic doctrine, not an evolving Satradhikar guru-teaching lineage in which further instruction develops over time. Must not be assimilated to the Ekasarana Satra tradition’s guru-transmitted teaching lineage.
Receive Into House
Approved rendering: ঘৰত গ্ৰহণ কৰা
Transliteration: ghôrôt grôhôn kôra
Doctrine: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
Original: λαμβάνειν εἰς οἰκίαν
Category: Church
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:10. MAJOR CULTURAL COLLISION: conflicts directly with the widely known Assamese/subcontinental hospitality ethic atithi devo bhava (‘the guest is like a god’). Mandatory translator/teacher note required at every occurrence distinguishing ordinary social/familial hospitality (not addressed by this letter) from the narrow case of formally housing and thereby materially enabling a traveling teacher who denies the incarnation.
Shares In Evil
Approved rendering: সহভাগী হয়
Transliteration: xôhobhagi hôy
Doctrine: Moral Participation in Another’s Evil through Endorsement
Original: κοινωνεῖ
Category: Sin
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:11. Verb form of the baseline’s ordinarily warm, Low-risk noun সহভাগিতা (fellowship). Here the same root is used in a negative moral sense — genuine participation in another’s evil deeds. This register shift from positive fellowship to culpable moral participation must be clearly preserved and never softened by the root’s usual positive connotation.
Medium Risk Terms
Peace
Approved rendering: শান্তি
Transliteration: xanti
Doctrine: Peace with God / Trinitarian Greeting (2 John 1:3)
Rejected alternatives: সুখ, প্ৰশান্তি
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation
Inherited from Romans package. Third member of the 2 John 1:3 greeting triad; relational/covenantal peace, not meditative calm sought through naam-kirtan or japa.
Church
Approved rendering: মণ্ডলী
Transliteration: môndoli
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: মন্দিৰ, নামঘৰ
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church
Inherited from Romans package. Not directly named in 2 John, but relevant background if ‘the elect lady’ (1:1) is read allegorically as a local congregation in teaching material. Never নামঘৰ (Ekasarana Dharma prayer-house institution).
Mercy
Approved rendering: কৃপা
Transliteration: kripa
Doctrine: Trinitarian Greeting: Grace, Mercy, and Peace
Original: ἔλεος
Category: Salvation
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:3. Activates the baseline grace entry’s explicit carve-out permitting কৃপা for ‘ordinary compassion/mercy in non-salvific contexts.’ Must remain visibly distinct from অনুগ্ৰহ (grace) so the greeting triad’s three distinct gifts are preserved.
Elder
Approved rendering: প্ৰাচীন
Transliteration: prachin
Doctrine: Pastoral Office and Authority (The Elder)
Rejected alternatives: গুৰু
Original: πρεσβύτερος
Category: Church
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:1, the author’s self-designation. Same logic as the baseline’s apostle entry: never গুৰু, which would collapse this pastoral, apostolic-era office into the Ekasarana Dharma’s Satradhikar guru-successor lineage institution.
Elect
Approved rendering: মনোনীত
Transliteration: monônit
Doctrine: Election and Chosen Status (Address)
Original: ἐκλεκτός / ἐκλεκτή
Category: Salvation
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:1 (‘elect lady’), 1:13 (‘elect sister’). Shares its root with the baseline’s High-risk ঈশ্বৰৰ মনোনয়ন. Functions primarily as honorific address here but must not be reduced to mere social flattery; retain a trace of God’s sovereign choice, not fate/কপাল or karma-determined destiny.
Lady
Approved rendering: সম্মানীয়া মহিলা
Transliteration: xommanniya môhila
Doctrine: (Address only; ambiguity re: individual vs. congregation)
Original: κυρία
Category: Church
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:1, 1:5. Though grammatically the feminine of κύριος, must be sharply distinguished from প্ৰভু (Critical, reserved exclusively for the divine, exclusive Lordship of Christ). Mandatory translator note at first occurrence (1:1) clarifying this is an ordinary honorific of respect, never a divine title.
Walk
Approved rendering: চলা
Transliteration: chola
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Original: περιπατέω
Category: Sanctification
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:4, 1:6. Metaphor for habitual, observable conduct, not literal locomotion, pilgrimage (yatra), or ritual circumambulation. Always pair with an ethical complement (e.g. ‘চলা…আজ্ঞা অনুসাৰে’).
World
Approved rendering: জগৎ
Transliteration: jagôt
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: সংসাৰ
Original: κόσμος
Category: Sin
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:7. Names the created/human sphere into which false teachers have gone, not an abstract cosmic order. NEVER সংসাৰ, the Hindu concept of the cyclical worldly/rebirth order rejected in the baseline’s salvation entry.
Full Reward
Approved rendering: সম্পূর্ণ পুৰস্কাৰ
Transliteration: xômpurnô puroskar
Doctrine: Eschatological Reward for Perseverance
Original: μισθὸν πλήρη
Category: Eschatology
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:8. Must be distinguished from a karma-phal (‘fruit of one’s karma’) framework in which a mechanically earned outcome follows ritual or moral performance. This reward is God’s gracious response to Spirit-enabled perseverance, consistent with the baseline’s grace-versus-merit caution.
Give Greeting
Approved rendering: মংগলবাদ জ্ঞাপন কৰা
Transliteration: môngôlôbad gyapôn kôra
Doctrine: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
Rejected alternatives: নমস্কাৰ কৰা
Original: χαίρειν λέγειν
Category: Church
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:10. NEVER নমস্কাৰ, which carries reverential/devotional connotations in Hindu greeting custom (folded hands toward elders or deities). Names a formal verbal blessing/endorsement withheld, not withholding basic social courtesy.

Doctrine: Moral Participation in Another’s Evil through Endorsement
Original: τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῖς τοῖς πονηροῖς

NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:11. The false teacher’s doctrinal deception is itself named a moral evil, not merely an intellectual mistake.
Forever
Approved rendering: অনন্তকাল
Transliteration: ônôntôkal
Doctrine: Permanence of the Indwelling Truth
Original: εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα
Category: Eschatology
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:2. Must convey linear, unending permanence, not a cyclical concept of time such as the recurring kalachakra/yuga-cycle framework familiar in Assamese Hindu cosmology.
Low Risk Terms
Fellowship
Approved rendering: সহভাগিতা
Transliteration: xohobhagita
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship
Rejected alternatives: বন্ধুত্ব, সমাজ
Inherited from Romans package. Root of the verb κοινωνεῖ at 2 John 1:11 (see shares_in_evil below), where the same root is used in a negative moral-participation sense; the noun itself retains its ordinarily positive, Low-risk meaning and must not be confused with that negative verb usage.
Exhort
Approved rendering: উৎসাহিত কৰা
Transliteration: utxahitô kôra
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Inherited from Romans package. Context-sensitive per baseline: use মিনতি কৰোঁ (entreaty) for the beseeching sense at 2 John 1:5 (‘I ask/entreat you’); reserve উৎসাহিত কৰা for the building-up sense elsewhere.
Children
Approved rendering: সন্তান

Doctrine: (background: Adoption)
Original: τέκνα

Original: στόμα πρὸς στόμα
Category: Language
NEW for this curriculum. Occurs at 2 John 1:12 (idiom στόμα πρὸς στόμα). Per baseline idiom-handling rule, render the natural Assamese equivalent (‘face to face’), not the literal, unnatural মুখে মুখে.
